On my official vist to Chennai, my colleague bought me here and introduced this place as one of the best for indulging in south indian non vegetartian cuisine.
No doubt, he was absolutely right. This was a really fascinating place with interiors done very nicely, giving a feel of old Portuguese architecture.
Coming to food, during lunch you can get an unlimited non veg meal in just Rs. 190/-

Thambi Vilas - a neighbourhood mess.. a place where you don’t feel any pressure, and you can just go have your food and get back. This feeling comes mainly due to their ambience, the location in T.Nagar and the friendly staff - not to forget their good food.
Food was awesome, particularly the briyani & veechu parotta & panneer soda. Tastes good & value for money. Service was ok. But only thing not ok was the maintenance of the T. Nagar outlet. AC not working & the walls need a coat of paint. Other than that a nice place to have food.

Had been several times to this place, just to enjoy their ambiance. It reminds the traditional style of a restaurants during late 90’s and 80’s .
My constant in their menu is their Mutton Nalli, it is just mind blowing.
We ordered,
Mutton Biryani - Seeraga samba rice with we’ll to go spices
Steam rice with Karuvattu kulambu - Had never been a fan of it , but this was one awsome stuff to try
Elaneer Cake - Tender coconut Moouse in decoded to the local version.

The ambience is great... i mean it’s simple, old style which i liked.. the staff are courteous. Had a veg sapadu, chicken and mutton sapadu and chciken rost.. and all three were decent in taste.. Good and the prices are also bit lower compared. And at last, the chocolate pan is too yum to end with.

This place needs no introduction! Have been craving for their gravies and signature chicken dishes for so long and finally had the opportunity to visit the place as they have revised their new dinner menu.
As usual we were greeted with a smile and goli soda, I opted for the cola goli soda which was a mix of Panner soda, cola and jaljira 😍
For starters we went for thambi vilas special chicken roast, Mutton chukka, TV special Vanjiram fry, Mutton Nalli roast and my favourite prawn fry
Man they do know how to make delicious food as all the starters were delicious and freshhh! No concerns there!
Then for main course we opted for we opted for prawn biryani, Kari dosa, Mutton salna parotta and chicken salna parotta 😍, idli chicken kozhambu and ildi mutton kozhambu
Of the above prawn biryani and Idli chicken were too good we had to order one more plate of it.
For desserts we ordered their signature Elaneer (tender coconut) cake - gobbled in no time.
And their chocolate pannnnnnn , I bet you can’t stop at one.
Overall entire team was very happy and we will surely visit Thambi Vila’s again 😍❤️
After long we had a very much contented meals. We specifically chose this restaurant for lunch for their typical south indian cuisine. We took mutton meals, fish meals, mutton briyani, vanjaram fish fry, mutton pepper varuval and nenjelumbu roast. The quantity of briyani was less and also the mutton and fish pieces in the meals but was tasty. The vanjam fry was smeared with butter and roasted which I didn’t like and also the fish was not fresh and somewhat tasted like karuvaadu. The other mutton dishes were very good. After a heavy meals it was good to have a paneer-soda in the place of coke/pepsi/other similar carbonated drinks. The bill was around Rs.1300 for 3 people which I think is economical.

This was my second visit to ThambiVilas and first outing to their T nagar branch.
Visited for an early breakfast and we were the first to drop in as soon they opened. Loved the blissful aroma within their intricate ambience.
Am aware of their menu and without much fuss went for Idly n Naatu kozhi salna and Pongal for breakfast.
Idly n Chicken Salna:
Would give a 5/5 for this mouth watering dish and indeed its one of the USP in their menu. 2 Idlies were socked with Naatu Kozhi salna. The best part it tasted like home cooked curry. The chicken piece were so succulent and the perfectly blended spices levitated the taste. Would highly recommend this dish and it’s a must try in Thambivilas.
Pongal:
This was just average, but loved the chutneys and sambar which served as a perfect side kick.
Concluded our breakfast with a Golisoda, an usual flavoured aerated drink. One of their best part is the candies and biscuits which they sell in glass jars. This stirred my nostalgic childhood memories, though it tasted OK. Not to mention the impeccable service render by the stewards. Ppl who prefer Non vegetarian for breakfast would love Thambivilas.

The ambiance of this place is based on Old madras theme like wall papers and gramophones.
The quality of the food is very good and tastes authentic.
The best part is here is every thing from starters to mains to sides to the ultimate goli soda every thing tastes great. They also sell a wide range of nostalgic eatables like mint mittai, orange mittai and much more.
So non veg eaters just step in without any thoughts and Veg people if you are ok with limited menu you can go here for the authentic taste.

Thambi vilas was on my booklist for long time, now got to hog in.
Location and ambience: Tucked away in the streets of t nagar, got to drop in with the help of gps. The ambience was in retro kind, walls adnored in yellow hue, in a retro fashion!
It was almost 3 we reached there, there was only biryani and limited starters was available! We went for plain biryani and nalli elumbu, which was the only starters available, totally loved the taste of the biryani,took me down to South in terms of flavors and spices!!.
The nalli elumbu was tender and succulent,, made us carve more!
We went for pine apple paneer soda!! Was refreshing to the meal!
Basically I m not a paan person,, looking at the chilled chocolate coating,, urged me to have a bite,, believe it or not,, you can't get enough of it!!
The best part is to end the meal with elaneer cake!! Elaneer cake was delicious to the palate!!And some thaen mittai, kamarkattu, does this makes you feel nostalgic?
On a whole thami vilas is a must visit place for a authentic South Indian food!!
A restaurant which will make yu feel at thanjavur💜 and feel the real south indian dining. They are famous for their non-vegetarian, chocolate paan, elaneer payasam and much more.
Not a non-veg lover, so i had the usual chicken biriyani and chicken 65. Chicken biriyani made in the real south Indian style using jeeraga samba rice and chicken 65 being fried to the best gives yu the best taste of it.
They play songs from the 80s and some good songa which make yu feel at Tanjore. One of the best restaurants which serve south indian food.

Very authentic South Tamil Nadu cuisine. Loved almost everything I had. Prawn biryani, vanjaram fry, mutton chukka, Kari dosai. Had a taste of everything. I loved their food totally. Elaneer payasam is a good dessert.
Proper South Indian chetinadu style. Loved the vintage type ambience totally. A must try listings especially for parota lovers. A wide variety of parota menus are completely worth a try. Chicken kari dosa was truly authentic out of the ones I have tried in different places till date. I would suggest a one time try to experience something different from regular.

Want to eat a home food? This is the place. Thambi Vilas. Well to start off, it’s an old house turned to a restaurant. The interiors portray the ancient madras with pictures of the city on the walls. Also has few set ups like gramophone for aesthetics. The service is pretty quick and friendly. Coming to the food, the orders were South Indian Non veg meals, Goli soda, squid, prawns and sugarcane juice. The Thali/ Meal combo has a sweet( halwa) however limited to one serving,fish and chicken curry, unlimited rice supply, appalam, some veggies, curd, rasam and few other curries. The prawns also tasted pretty good. However I wasn’t prettt satisfied with the squid though. Talking about the disadvantage of this place would mostly be the parking. Apart from that everything else is just fine. Good food, decent dining experience, price is also cheaper than expected.
Ordered chicken chukka.. it was amazing and out of the world taste, parotta and biryani were also good but I didn't like the masala kalaki I ordered.

This place was just amazing in terms of the Chettinad or Tamil cuisine they're serving . I had the fish and the mutton kozambu with parotta and it was terrific. The interiors are of the traditional style and makes you feel home.

Good place to try out authentic food of Tamilnadu.. Mutton varieties are lip smacking to the core.. Biriyanis are okish type need an improvement in this.. Prices are reasonable and service people are friendly and polite.. Many items are in the menu are not available most of the time. Hope management take a note of it and come with a proper arrangement on that. Should have given 5 ratings but due to many food that I wanted try are not available so giving them for 4 stars for making me disappointed. Well done service people keep up the good work..
First of all, I would say one of very few wonderful restuarant which reminds you old days. You get to see many vintage things over here.
Coming to dishes, they were just so yummy, and excellent service too. My favourite is Nalli Roast and Paneer Goli soda, those are jus awesome.
Near entrance you get to see lots of our childhood sweets like Thean mittai, peppermint, burffy, etc., also you can get different variety of beeda.
Overall, just awesome authentic south indian restuarant with wonderful vintage feel!!!
Food is amazing. Bright colour theme. Upper floor is designed as a old restaurant and its very beautiful. Most of the food items have authentic Tamil flavour.
Washrooms are clean but in the 1st floor only. No lifts so hard for elders and disable persons.
Styled in retro Madras theme, this hotel serves proper south Tamilnadu cuisine.
The taste was good, the service can be improved. We had to remind them to get extra saulna twice and there was no one in the hotel. Can't imagine how they will serve when the hotel is brimming to it's capacity.
Parking available for both two and four wheelers. Limited capacity though (3 cars and some 10 two wheelers max)

Ambience is too good. It feels a lot better inside even if it's scorching hot outside. Snacks and drinks are items not to miss. Paneer soda tastes the best! Quantity served can be increased.
Thambi Vilas has wide range of menu yummy lip smacking dosas,idlis and uttapams served with authentic South Indian style of chicken and mutton gravys.
Some of the clear winners were mutton saalna idly same is available in chicken.
The mutton saalna Idli was my all time favourite. We had their mutton biriyani which was amazing and it was well presented as well. Their interiors takes us back to 90’s and the workers are dressed up in that way. A must go place!

The exterior and interior of the restaurant looks like classic mid 70 era building as we enter we were invited with fresh smell of spicy food. Every spot of the restaurant is set to 70s right from the furniture to food. Food was really good authentic south tamil nadu food.

The food At this place tastes like home made and the service offered by the waiters were good once and for some particular reason it has dulled over time. It's hard to find a spot to get seated if you are visiting this place for lunch during weekends. Pricing and ambiance are too good atleast according to me. Dishes you need to try there are their thambi Vilas chicken 65, elaneer payasam, Mutton saalna idli and these will not disappoint you for sure. The parking space can hold 4 to 5 cars at a maximum which is in front of the hotel. If the service and wait time can be improved then I am sure that this place will be much more crowded.
If you taste the curry once sure you are going to love it like I do. Thambi Vilas has re-created original flavors of Tanjore cusine’s texture, aroma and presentation style. The restaurant has pleasant decors and soothes us immediately. The menu is extremely friendly and reminds dearly of home. Beginning with very delicious aromatic South Indian chicken curry, mutton Biriyani and vanjaram varuval etc. Some of its specials include chicken lappa, mutton saalna paratta , they even have mutton saalna pongal. Truly a great dining experience at Thambi Vilas, the people are attentive to your needs the temperature I wanted. It exceeds expectations for a restaurant experience. Great family restaurant too.
