Best South Indian Restaurant in Chennai :)
Best Vegetarian hotel in chennai
I have ordered many times in this restaurant , it is very affordable. sometimes they give poori, pongal, idli just for 20 RS,quality is appreciable. I like mini tiffin here. Sambar idli, coffee are must try.
The North India thali was very good. The best from it was the paneer butter masala and the pulao. The soup was good.
Sapad day!!
Taste 10/10
Quantity 8/10
Price 9/10
I went here for breakfast , and i had such a ball of a time i had masala dosa , medu wada ,mysore sada dosa ... It was totally worth it .. sambara ,chutney was way too good . Ambience was quite okayish and noisy..7/10
I regularly visit this hotel. I like this hotel because, here the one key reason is the taste is like home food. Especially sambar rice and vadai 😍 the dishes are good on taste and worth the price.
I’ve had tiffin here many times and it’s never disappointed me! Raaj Bhavan’s food is good and it speaks for itself.
Curd Vada in Raaj Bhavan is what made me write this review! It just really stole the show. The curd is just perfect and the Vada is delectable. They’ve garnished it with just the right amount of boondhi, coriander leaves. And we get to bite some groundnuts here n there which just adds to the experience. One must try this perfect curd Vada. Not everywhere we get this kind of it, they make the curd too sour but this place is so consistent in taste that every time I order it feels so good.

Best budget friendly restaurant if you are really hungry. There are good meals. The sambar is awesome here. The meal is limited but can fill your stomach easily. Situated in heart of the city and it will be crowded all the time, so getting place is tough. They can try to maintain the place neat. Other than that everything is fine.
The best place to have meals .... basically it's like home cooking... delicious and healthy...the people serve there with their hearts out...
Only one problem and that's the infrastructure isn't best so people won't have that appetizing feel while they eat..and price is also write high...
If you are craving some good south indian food but don't feel like spending a lot, you are at the perfect place. The place is crowded and is only furnished to meet the basic needs. But the food is very good. The highlight of this place is Masala dosa. You have nearly 20+ varieties of dosa and some 5 varieties of masala dosa to choose from. Love this place a lot.
I ate masala dosa and veg meals from hotel raaj bhavan. Both of that was awesome with reasonable rates . Neat and clean hotel. The masala dosa was of awesome taste and it cost around 60 rupees each.
Super pocket friendly and bang on taste and service!!!! Been here many a times and have never been disappointed!!! Tiffins are a must try don’t miss out it in the area!!!
A good veg meals, accompanied with my veggie friend as he suggested this for our lunch, a well packed meal especially satisfies your tummy..
Staffs are friendly but usually this place is crowded..
Nice place to have proper south indian meals (wedding style). But it will be crowded all the time and difficult to get space.
If you want to have proper team lunch, get into AC room service. You can have wide varieties of tasty food, be it roti's, briyani, south indian, all tastes good as expected. But there seem to be confusion between servers in taking order and delay in delivery.
Royal Falooda was really good.
Even after crossing this place in Nungambakkam thro the years, I haven't been excited to try this even a single time. So when my North Indian friends got recent cravings for some evening snacks, I was little hesitant but after reading their huge list of menu, snacks was eventually turned to a dinner.
PUNJABI THALI at dinner was a surprise but it had Chapathi, Biriyani, Appalam and few other gravy's. Panneer was good so as Gobi manchurian, Biriyani was decent. Too much capsicum and too spicy was CHILLY PAROTTA so it took me 3 cups of Raitha to finish it, nothing to complaint on the taste though. So if I had 3 cups of Raitha, my friend had 3 cups of their superbly tasted Sambar for a proper masala filled MUSHROOM MASALA DOSAI. It was too good. Got to taste their LASSI which comes with Punjabi Thali, sweet, thick and served chilled. But their 25rs FILTER COFFEE just overtook everything in the end. Anything for that coffee.
The total bill of 365 ₹ for 3 of us was fine. Service was really good that they didn't hesitate to get things back to back.
Overall - Hotel Raaj Bhaavan, don't really know about the extra A's in the spelling but I think it's got something to do with their fortune, since this is one of the oldest restaurants in Chennai and it after all shows their consistency.
One of the many things that I love about Chennai is the beautiful Marina. Weekends are all about heading towards the mighty salt water before dawn to get amazed at the simplicity and complexity of nature. Post Marina; I always make it a point to have some delicious South Indian breakfast at some of the really good outlets there. This time it was Raj Bhavan.
First things first – On entering, the first impression is Ok. There will always be a bit of chit chatting between senior walkers sipping the delicious and I mean, the delicious coffee there. Then, comes the best part – Food. As we were only two, we didn’t eat a lot. We went for the basics:
Sambar Vada – 2 plates each
Masala Dosa
Rava Onion Dosa
Pongal
Coffee – 3 (2 for me)
I have to specially mention about 2 items which were absolutely yummy and worth it:
The Sambar– One of the best Sambars I have ever eaten.
Tirunelveli halwa – You will find it placed at the Cashiers counter. Definitely a MUST buy and try.
So my verdict is as follows:
Ambience: 3.5
Food - 4.5
Service – 4.5
Value for money - 4.5
Oh ho.. wat a tongue meals. So superb. 200% worth for money i love it. A suggestion is to look after the ambience.. north indian food makes a awesome taste..
Hit the place for a lunch just to see empty chairs, enough to raise doubt about the quality, but surprisingly i was served with a deliciousy north indian thali.
Roti, panner, gobi manchurian... and the lassi served at the end was simple awesome.
Waitors were attentive too..
However, my friend, who had a South Indian thali was not content.
I had lunch here. It consists rice (limited), papad, two sabji, sambar. Rassam, sweet, pickle, butter milk. Except rice all are unlimited. ₹ 80/ meal. Can try for once. Extra charges for curd
I've had some misconceptions about this this place. But when I finally went there, I was wrong all the time. Decent place, decent food. 10 times better than any other so called authentic "Veg Bhavans".

I've been ordering from this restaurant for about 10 years now. It's one of the best places for a quick bite at any time if the day, considering its reasonable price and delicious food.
So, i have tried almost every dish at this place. The best in terms of south indian would be the onion uthappam. Classic and epic. Mainly because it is not the usual commercial food with truck loads of oil or dalda. The South Indian items feel like a home cooked meal and it has to be taken with abundant sambar and chutneys. Brcause u can never have too much of sambar and chutney.
About the ambience. It is a regular fast food kind of appearance which can be noisy at times given its location. But all the that will get compensated by the food u eat.
My tryst with a perfect Sunday morning breakfast led to this restaurant in Nungambakkam, Raaj Bhaavan. As always in my opinion yardstick for how tiffin items would be for a restaurant is their mini tiffin. Their mini tiffin consists of mini masala dosa, mini sambar idlies, scoop of pongal and rava kesari, sambar vadai, mini filter coffee, coconut and tomato chutneys.
All the items were good and tasty backed up by delicious sambar and freshly ground chutneys. Service was prompt. Only negative was below par ambiance which is old fashioned, throwback to the 80s-90s.
Been there a couple of times, always crowded, average ambience. My usual order is roti with paneer butter masala. Mini meals is also good. Service is quick, reasonable price.
This place is best for veg lovers best south indian n north indian food will be delivered here
But i recommed u guys to land up in south indian food here it tastes damn good
Always crowed so hard to find seat 👍
No parking facility

Decent place to have food! Not anything great though. Good service good quality makes it a good visit. Won't regret eating here..... Try the other branch too!
Their north Indian quick lunch combo is very nice. It's just 110 now I guess and they serve so much for just 100 bucks. Best for students as there are many institutes and college nearby. They give you two big tandoori rotis, pulav, a gravy, raita, salad and a sweet. It's sooo much for a girl to eat :p and a small appetite person. Should be perfect for people with zyada bhookh.
Other things that I've had is just ordinary. Service - quick.
Came to this restaurant for breakfast and I was very impressed with the food. Their Sambar idli is an excellent way to start your day. Forget Saravana Bhavan visit this place for your Idli Sambar
This my favorite place for lunch when my office was in nungambakkam. I used to have meals every day and i like my meals here. It was always crowded in the afternoon. The is one of the best place to have south indian meal. Tiffin items are OK.
Well!!! This has been my paradise during my articleship period. I have eaten here infinite times over those 4 years.
The Parotta kurma and ghee roast are my all time favourites. The art of recommending this restaurant to my CA friends has made this review a neat concoction.
Coming to the food, almost everything in the menu WRT South Indian has been tasted and dusted.
This is one of the places where they maintain the same quality and numerous visits may sometime make u feel bored. But I still love their ghee roast.
The overall dining experience is total VFM. The food is assumed to be hygienic as I have never fallen sick.
Overall a pocket friendly restaurant for students and a place where u seldom end up waiting. It's like food on the go.

Another amazing South Indian restaurant placed in the heart of Chennai. Provides some good parking spots for a relaxed and beautiful dinner with family or friends.
A place to eat authentic South-Indian food. Clean place and fast service. Loved the masala dosa and filter coffee.....very original. Another speciality is the tiffin meals. A must try.
Hygienic vegetarian restaurant. Always busy here guys. The mini meals is awesome and I always have that. Other varieties like naans and rotis are also great but a bit costly for their set up...
The place is located lil deep, but at a walkable distance from the heart of Nungambakkam. The ambiance is always busy. I visit this outlet often as its stone's throw from CA Institute. Had South Indian meals..which was pretty filling..pineapple rasam was the highlight. And except rice(limited), all other items were served more than once. You must try their Channa or Kurma side dish as there is some magical masala touch to it. Only cons are the inflated pricing(wonder why?!) and service/parcel takes time generally.
Its quite a good place, had ghee idli which was tasty, the place is usually crowded and its difficult to find a seat for lunch... A suggested place in Nungambakkam area as its quite reasonable and well maintained restaurant in the locality..
Pretty average place but great for a quick breakfast. I was driving back from the beach early morning and stumbled upon this place.
Called for mini idlis and the pongal. It was all about the pongal for me here. Service was quick and efficient. Not even two minutes into ordering, the waiter got me piping hot mini idlis, a plate of hot pongal and a cup of mini coffee.
They also have a terrific option of breakfast meals for just 80 bucks which is wholesome and a steal! All in all you'll be spending about 100 bucks tops for a good breakfast.
On a scale of 5:
Food - 3.5
Service - 4
Location - 4
Ambience - 3.5
Advantage of location! Been there with family for lunch! On the ground floor they serve short eats and lunch but first floor dining is dedicated for full lunch meal! Average a little clean place! Good parotas and dosas! Economic lunch! Not heavy on wallet! Worth if u don find any other veg eat outs !

This place is located in sterling road and is a good old landmark. (Between Nungambakkam Police station and Chetpet)
Nothing much to quote about ambiance
Customer-friendly staff & pocket friendly prices.
Service is pretty quick and the food tastes above average. (Be it a North/South Indian menu)
Lunch is priced at 60 bucks which will be served only at the first floor. The lunch is extensive full meal (Limited Rice) without sweet is served in the banana leaf. No much complaints. Yet nothing much to rave about
Even f u don drop by this place to try their food, dun forget to grab a piece of huge keerai vadai priced @ Rs.20/- .. Delicious :) One keerai vadai would stuff half of your stomach and it is truly drool worthy :)
They have the best Sambar Idli in town! It isn't sambar as side dish for a plate of idli. It's tiny idlis soaked and sunk in sambar. Damn yum! Cold Horlicks is a must have in this restaurant.. It's heavenly. They even give you a spoon for your Cold Horlicks so that you can eat the solid Horlicks from the bottom of your glass (after you're done drinking it), like school kids who crave for Horlicks. Dosas and Idlis are nice too. Chutneys don't come up to Saravana Bhavan or Sangeetha standards though. Filter coffee is very good.

Been here for south Indian tiffin, and I was never disappointed. Food is good, but the place is crowded all through the day. Serves delicious items like onoin rava dosai, bonda and curd vadai!
Its placed adjacent to hotel apoorva sangeetha. An economical resturant with the right variety of south indian food. Good place for breakfast & lunch. The south indian meals tasted good. Peak hours during afternoon. Ample parking space. There filter coffee taste great!
good place to visit for south indian food that is worth more than money spent.
the paneer butter masala is no less tastier than a quality north indian hotel and a must-have here.
good competition from hotel sangeetha makes it comparatively weaker as there is no air conditioner facility.
One of the long standing restaurants on busy nungambakkam high road leading upto chetpet , Hotal Raaj bhaavan always sees a lot of patrons especially during office hours .
The mornings can have you swaying to the aromas of fresh coffee or crisp dosas being ferried around to customers. Afternoons are mostly mini meal times and there is also the odd order for a veg biriyani or a variety rice of the day. The waiters are prompt and quick in service and be ready to have a quick meal and leave as there is a steady stream of customers to take your place.
You could also safely try the variety of naans , stuffed kulchas and north indian vegetarian dishes on offer , as they seem to get most of them right. As for parking there is just enough space to squeeze in two wheelers , so if you have a car find a safe parking spot first.
It's my 1st time visit to this resto
Okay ambience
awesum s.indian cuisine.. must try..
Pot Kulfi is the best dessert one may consider to order..
Ppl always at ur side, i.e. to say, very gud hospitality..
I have been many times here as its nearby my office..as for ambience its not upto the mark..while coming to food..I had here meals and that was really nice with papads sweet etc for economical cost..I also had mini meals here tht too awesome :)
usually here bit rushy at lunch time..so prefarbly suggest you to go earlier.
have a great hunting!
This place is quite old and has stood the times. Udupi style South Indian dishes. There is separate meal section open during lunch. All tiffin items are good. The ambience is typical nothing to write about. The mini meals containing sweet, variety rice pickle etc is quite filling and reasonably priced. Ideal for a quick meal.
