Authentic south Indian food and a great vibe. Go here if you want a nice snapshot of Southern cuisine. Try the appam and stew, a combination you can never go wrong with.

If you want to have best Chettinad food in Chennai this is the place. We loved the food..the reason I deducted a star is coz the mutton was little hard but the gravy was too good! The people were friendly and overall had a great time.
This newly opened outlet of Maplai at Kilpauk has a very calm and peaceful atmosphere. Car parking wasn't a problem. Even though this place is well suited for a hard-core biriyani lover, being a vegetarian, the place didn't disappoint me. They have lovely mini parotas and kerala style veg biriyani. Would like to visit this place again!
Great cosy ambience with great food. Enough said. Decent car parking space and polite staff members. The coin parotta is a must try. The place is decorated In an emperor style
it is located in this complex next to this shop for bags called "PIe' with a pie symbol. once you enter the place they have their reception with a tiger on the wall. further inside, the place has this royal look with king style ambiance which is a comforting setup. They have a good spread of Biryani and they do justice to the taste as well. car parking is alright provided it isn't too crowded. The staff members are courteous and overall a fine dine in experience.
This Maplai has a very pleasant tale to it. A good ambience with great Biryani and a very nominal price, especially considering how wisely one uses Zomato gold. The service Is quite smooth with hospitality from the heart. This is a place I would recommend.
Simply amazing place.. Both for vegetarians n for NV lovers.. We all know when it comes to unlimited food v get lotta dishes lined up in the name of starters which would not be dat great or maybe does not excite us in terms of taste except for a few.. Well here u get a lot of different starters each with unique taste.. Being a vegetarian i got to taste vazhapoo kola urundai for the first time(to me).. Honestly didn't love the taste so much yet the effort is appreciated.. Panner ka thakkali was my favorite.. Other than these pardon me I couldn't remember much since its been too long yet.. Unlike other places that serve food just for name sake n drill a hole in ur pocket.. This place is worth paying the same 700 or 800 n have a good taste of different varieties of food.. Main course(mine was a Kerala style biryani)was also tasting good however as usual u might not have a space in tummy for it.. Their parrotas are the softest n tastiest ones by far to me.. Also the dessert options were really great n almost all the dishes tasted good... On the whole it's a total package guys.. Would highly recommend it to u if you have a big gang of foodie Frens n are in search of something different from usual UNLIMITED food tags! 😊
To make your taste buds much happy they have started a new festival menu which will be hosted till Nov 10, you can have a taste of the most authentic manapatti food. Most of the food are cooked from the manapatti people itself. Here is the list of menu which you can find it on the festival. 1.Chicken Chukka: Rs. 159
Amazing food... very good service by Lingaa.
Tawa prawns is a must try...veg thalasery biriyani was a hit with the vegetarians Must try this place
Excellent service by Linga good food value for money keep it up .prawn tava fry chicken ka thakali are the specialty of this place must try .
Nice place and awesome food with good menu options for vegetarian
Everything tasted perfect with great service by Mr. Linga
Would come back soon 👌
Been there as a group of 6. Was served by Basha. The service was good and the food was also great. The interiors were really nice and the waiters were really polite and nice.
Really good place and hospitality is great too. Ordered a crab rasam which was good, and a chicken and a mutton starter which were good too.

Thalaserry Briyani and The starters esp. butter chicken is a must try.. Starters are amazing, pricing is on the costlier side.. But worth every penny.. U won't regret paying for it. Prepare to tingle your tongue. Staffs are courteous. Service is fast. Kudos Guys.
Mesmerizing Karupattimisu❤️
Mutton Biryani was Okay only! Ambience and service looks great. Need to improve with the food varieties. A bit costly though!
A couple of visits to Maplai Kilpauk were mandatory for me, before giving a review.Their fare has never ceased to impress. The ambience is very good... more peaceful on weekdays. They do have a separate room to accommodate about 10 persons.
Service quality is excellent - names of Mr.Veda & Mr.Basha are worth mentioning.
Their Mutton Kola Urundai and Nethili Fry have been our favourites. One needs to know what they are ordering, especially if they choose the Theepori Chicken.... the most fiery chicken so far.
It's just on one Sunday, we opted for the Kalakkal Thiruvizha buffet and ended missing out on a few items that were supposed to have been served. They seemed short-staffed that day and they had no clue what was being served on which table.
It has always been a weekday choice for us and remains so.... for whatever reason : )
Food was outstanding and service, impeccable. Definitely a must try place. Loved the egg vepudu and the kulukki sharbath. Great experience overall.
The best place for South Indian cuisine. We loved the chicken chukka dosa , mutton idiyapam biriyani, guntur prawn fry , tanjavur kair katti kola and the vajram meen kolambu with steamed rice. Everything was damn tasty. The service could have been faster, no regrets . Definitely recommend.
Ambience was good with the art work all around. The much hyped biriyani was not upto our expectation. Chicken kothu parotta, Chicken chukka dosai were our pick. Special mention to the Nalli gravy and finally brownie points to the hospitality shown. Happy Hogging!!
I'm very sad that I was late to hear about this restaurant in my neighbourhood. My favourite buffet place. Authentic south Indian starters and main course. We went in a group and went for the buffet. The super spicy andhra chicken was spicy and i loved it. Their egg is my favourite one. Ate that a lot. Nathali fry is authentic kerala style. Appam was perfect. Chicken lollipop was nice.
Their welcome drink is awesome especiallythe fruit sarbat. Their mutton kola urundai is the best in town.
Coming to the main course, they had appam, naan, parotta, madurai chicken and mutton biriyani, chicken and mutton gravy. They were awesome. Well cooked and spiced up in good balance.
The desserts had good variety.
Fruit falooda, karippatti dessert, coconut flavoured dessert, brownie with ice cream, jigarthanda.
Became my favourite place in town.
The ambience awesome. Nice comfy seats, with large table, so you have enough service.
Every time I am searching Chettinad has definitely chosen Maplai coz of the South indian varieties and service especially Mr. Raavanan @ Google. He explains properly and listed the items, so we tried the Kalakkal thali, it's really superb try for the first visit. But only disappoint prawn is not in thali. That's why am giving 4 stars.
I saw the restaurant on Zomato and we visited for buffet lunch 650 Rupees with 30 items the food is really awesome and its value for money the restaurant Ambience was so great and Chef Raavanan was very kind to give us the best
Went on a lunch date with wife. Amazed by the really friendly staff and the exceptional service. The food is amazing and the ambience is lovely too. Thanks to staff Ravanan and Vedha who made sure we really enjoyed our meal. Will definitely visit many times again.
Our family of 6 was there for lunch and we had a good time. We opted for the promotional buffet that includes a standard set of 30 dishes from welcome drinks to desserts served at your table. The starters in particular were outstanding. The main course gravies were a bit of a let down as they were watery and didn't taste authentic. Possibly because they weren't made to order. Desserts were served in just the right portion and we felt happy there was very little food wastage. Special mention to Ms. Narmada who was excellent in serving us. We felt at home thanks to her service. Would certainly request the management to make a special mention.
Nice ambience amd the taste was also good...nice place to spend some time with your friends ... Mr.Bullet was extremely good at serving.....
I have been to nungambakkam maplai several times , but I wanted to try kilpauk maplai . It happened last Sunday , I was very much pleased on seeing the ambience of the restaurant . It was really good and parking facilities was more enough .
Instead of trying a la carte , I went for maplai virunthu . It was 681 rupees inclusive of all taxes , with 30 varieties of dishes .
Starting with soup and juices , nandu rasam was given in soup and 2 juices were given . In which all the three were awesome .
Starters -
Andra spicy chicken , chicken lollipop, mutton kola urundai, nethili fry and egg were served . In which I gotto love egg and nethili fry , it was in repeat mode . It was fantastic , others were also good.
Then , breads like appam, roti , naan , coin parotta , kal dosai & chicken Ceylon parotta was served with 3 non veg gravies . Then in rice mutton , chicken biryani , curd rice and ghee rice was given . You cannot try everything , but whatever I tried it was damn good .
Then desserts , 5 dishes were given . I tried all the five , everything was out of the world . Loved it ❤
Service was really good , kudos to basha and team . In the entire spread my favourite was nethili fry , egg starter , kulluki & karuppatti ( tiramisu ) ❤ loved everything
We had such a great experience at Maplai, Kilpauk. Food was magnificent. Our hosts Basha and Bullet were amazing. A must visit, especially this month, when they have offered a special buffet.
I had a Non Veg Buffet at lunch. Dishes were good. It was on Wednesday, so no crowd., I liked nethli fish, chicken, mutton kola urandai. Coin parotta was very soft.
Always had an eye on this restaurant (Nungambakkam branch)from a very long time. I was very excited to try out their special buffet from the kilpauk branch. Turns out to be a good experience but not the best because of their slow service. We had to ask them to bring the starters, showed no interest in serving the starters which was a bit irritating . Also, we were informed that appam and kadai chicken wasn't available but fortunately we saw them serving to the people who came for A-la-carte option which i found not professional.
Coming to food, chicken lollipop and Thanjavur kair Katti kola was outstanding.
Coin parotta and idiyappam was good from the breads . Main course gravies were having the yummy authentic Chettinad essence.
Being a huge fan of dessert, i should mention the karupattimisu which is a delicious mousse made up of palm jaggery and cream. Also, coconut souffle - best of all the desserts 😊
Altogether, i would rate this place 3.9/5 .
Service should be improved when you're having the buffet option.
+Excellent food and ambience.
+Staff courteous.
+Value for money.
-Service needs to be faster.
-Need to ensure sufficient quantity is prepared to cover all members in one serving. And not make a set of people wait while the others are enjoying.
When going out for a special family dinner, the safest option is south indian food and what better place than Maplai❤ At the end of the day, everyone's happy and thats all that matters right!
Ambience: They have a namma ooru style sweet stall right near the entrance. Had some yummy kamarkattu there!! Since we were a big family, we were seated at a private dining space which was kinda perfect!
Service: Always the sweetest people! Youll see that they really care about the customers here and help you with your food choices and patiently explain everything!
FOOD:
--My personal favourite was the Mutton Chukka Dosai, made with mutton and egg, this was an absolute delight!
--Kokkarakko Lollipop, perfectly tangy chicken.
--Super Spicy andhra chicken, probably the spiciest dish I've ever had, nevertheless..loved it with happy tears!
--Vanjaram fry is a must if you're have south indian food!
--Chicken Thallu vandi fried rice, had an authentic taste to it! It was Perfectly seasoned!
--Ambur Chicken Biriyani, like what could go wrong with biriyani, yum!!!
--Coin parotta, was perfect with Kozhi Chettinad
--Mutton Kola urundai, got over in seconds literally! Best in town!
--3 way vattalappam, a family favourite❤
--Coconut Soufflé ..the perfect way to end the meal!
The price is high but the whole experience is worth it!
This Restaurent is awesome.. Food taste is very good. We went for buffet and enjoyed all dishes. Staff were very friendly and the ambience is good.
Fabulous dining experience thanks to Captain Vedha and staff for their splendid service
We ordered all veg food and must say be it the soup or starter maincourse and desert all of them very simply superb. Extremely good food service.
Nxt visit wil try their nonveg range 😀
Thanks again to entire Maplai team!

Impressed with food and service. Mr.Basha was so polite and kind. Felt like home with the service that he provided. The light and ambience inside the restaurant was so warm and beautiful.😍
Visited this place for a weekend dinner. such an awesome place with a moderate crowd on a Friday night and a good ambience.coming to the food , the naatu Koli soup and mutton soup was yumm . For starters , the chicken lollipop was kinda semi dry and the mutton chops was dry and was the best 😍 now moving on with the main dish , the Madurai mutton Briyani was the best and the chicken kothu parota was tasty and filling.the nalli elumbu gravy was the best dish for the day ♥️ now at last the rose milk was pretty much decent and the karupatti trimasu was mind blowing 😍 thanks to my table waiter Mr.Baasha who was very kind and helpful throughout the entire dinner ☺️
Pleasant ambience.. Authentic food, worth the money, Special mention to Mr.Basha who served with smile and care !! :) Must try mutton briyani, chicken ka thakali... mutton kola...
Hands down the best place for authentic Chettinad and south indian food.
Food (5/5) : I went there with a lot of expectations and it was definitely worth the hype. I visited this place on Sunday for dinner. Ambience is quiet and brightly lit. We ordered,
* Guntur prawns
* Kolai urundai
* Karuvepillai melagu kozhi
* Nattu kozhi fry
* Fish tikka
* Chicken Biryani
* Madurai mutton Biryani
I loved every starters on my plate. The kola urundai literally melts in your mouth. The Guntur prawns was rightly cooked with the perfect amount of spice. The karuvepillai kozhi was also cooked to perfection. I suggest you order south indian dishes rather than north indian dishes.
Being a fan of seeraga samba biryani, the mutton Biryani was my favourite. The mutton pieces were cooked right and the masala was also right. Would go again jus for this!
We had Maplai rose milk for dessert and it was no less. The quantity was good and it tasted great.
Service (5/5) : I loved their service. My waiters Basha and Bullet were both very friendly and the service was so quick. From refilling water at regular intervals to checking on our food, it was very satisfactory.
Parking: The place is located in a quiet street. The cars can be parked in the same lane.
Would I go again? Definitely !

One of the best restaurant in Chennai for authentic South Indian non veg food... Decent and calm ambiance, tasty authentic food and good service makes it a Must visit place...
Though similar to kola urundai the thajavur kair katti urundai is a unique and tasty dish which should not be missed... Barotta with nalli gravy , curry dosa , seraga samba biriyani are some of their signiture dishes...
To add icing to the cake the Kilpauk branch has a better service than their other branches (personal opinion)... Especially Mr.Bullet took extra care to serve us made sure we tasted the complementary ellu urundai and kadala mittai...
One awesome place to have fantabulous Kerala cuisine. Starting with the ambience they have nailed it, you don't need to wait here as you do in their nungambakkam outlet (this may soon change )
Now coming to the food we ordered chicken ka takkali, guntur prawns and chintamani chicken all were good
My favourite was the tallasery briyani (chicken or prawn gravy in ghee rice ) the meat was well cooked and the gravy had the perfect blend of spices
Finally their service I have been to this place thrice and I can certainly say that they have the best people in the crew especially Basha and Deva 😊
We chose buffet and the taste was really good!! The service by Mr. Raavanan was impeccable. Very polite and sharp.
Overall, a decent experience, definitely one of the best family restaurants in Chennai.
Maplai lives up to its standards in the new Kilpauk branch too.
Loved the food, the ambience and especially the wait staff. Basha and Bullet who served us were exceptionally cordial and quick to our orders.
We ordered the mushroom chettinad curry and veg stew to go along with the egg appams and the coin barotta. Everything was amazingly delicious and we will definitely go back soon!
Maplai., Savour South Indian food in our chennai.
They are becoming more special with their South Indian cuisine in Chennai. They where pulling the crowd for the food of 4 southern regions of India, But now they are into the more authentic South Indian foods from the cooks of Manapatti
“ the village of cooks” (Madurai), They have trade them from there to serve us more authentic style of Kari Virunthu like food, with fire wood and hand pounded cooking techniques.
Just one word to say it’s so so so good definitely I recommend you to try. They said they gonna Chang menu periodically and serve more best to feel.
.
.
THIS KILPAUK outlet was so good with ambiance and authentic drama painting on walls and private dining rooms and made me to feel so royal with their service and care.
.
.
I can keep on saying everything but some doesn’t read full and jump off so my suggestion is to visit and feel the experience, definitely you will be satisfied.

Food & quality: 5/5
Ambiance: 4.8/5
Service: 4.5/5
Definitely & recommended to try. 👍
One excellent place with awesome food.. have had at the Nungambakkam outlet and it was a great experience too
We had rotis and chicken starter and mutton gravy... and was tasty rich with flavors..
Maplai in kilpauk, located in Rajarathinam street near gormei market.
The review is all about two special launches they made recently.
Namma Ooru Manappatti samayal: History behind one of my native special caterers, who have been preparing Non-Veg meal for almost huge people. Manappatti – “The village of Cooks” all are male cooks who cook only through the wood fire only. They have been doing this in most of marriage function and even thiruvizha. They stick to the classical method of cooking since years, and they do it even now. The masala they use is made only with their hands, and not ammi or some other mixer.
Okay let me go with the research made by Maplai team with the Manappatti cooks; they researched almost for 3 weeks on this method of cooking, then specialized their cooks in Chennai by interrogating with the Manappatti cooks. At last, the below products came in at MAPLAI:
1) Manappatti Mutton biriyani: Biriyani made with seeraga samba rice, with roasted masala. The special about this one is the mutton biriyani as an aroma of ghee which they get it from aavin as stated. Perfect and a mild biriyani to start with. Served with typical vengayam raitha.
2) Manappatti naattu ozhi kolambu: My favorite ever naattukozhi kolambu in any restaurants I had as of now. Perfect spices mixed up properly with adada naattukozhi. The chicken was ccooked perfectly either. Reminded me of my ooru thiruvizha.
3) Mutton and chicken chukka: Enga da chukka illaya momnt has been replaced with these dishes. They make the chicken and mutton dried enough with gingelly oil base, cashew, crushed garlic which brings in perfect taste to the dish, crushed chilli powder.
4) Manappatti elumbu rasam soup: Rasam served with the a bone pieces in it.
5) Veg curries: They serve different veg curries in sides every time. I had tried the potato one. Happy to have the one after a long time.
6) Dalcha: This is the original dalcha, mix of brinjal curries and elumbu pieces.
7) They serve parota with them, which they have added and it was the odd one out of the manappatti special. The overall dishes is for Rs. 499/- without taxes, this is available till November end.
The other one is the Maplai kalakkal thiruvizha: This is on table buffet for Rs. 649/- without taxes
Served the aattukaal soup which was okayish.
Welcome drinks were Kulukki sarbhath which was mild spicy one, and the fruit mix which I used have in my streets famous down south.
The starters were:
Grilled pineapple which could have been grilled a little bit more.
Egg vepudu, it’s a egg filled bajji with masala powder topped over.
Kokkarakko chicken lollipop: tangy lollipop and was good.
Checken cheese lappa: Vera level have it hot and you will love it.
Super spicy Andhra chicken: Too spicy enough, and was yummy either.
Nethili fry: Okayish and I felt the kaaram was lower.
Thanjavur kayir katti kola urundai: More of hype for this dish is what I felt, served hot and was good even. But not the best which I had in Madurai.
For assorted breads: coin barota, veechu barotta, idiyappam, aappam, kal dosa, naan, roti, lacha. Out of these everything was good. But I missed the thaengapaal for the idiyappam and aappam.
Main course gravies were Kozhi chettinad – Mild spiced tender chicken gravy, nadan mutton curry – this was like chops I used to have, and yeah the pieces were full of bones, Kadai chicken – Pan toasted chicken curries made of tomato garlic and other spices – best for the Kal dosa I had.
Main course rice items includes: chicken biriyani made with basmati rice which was not my go to dish anyways. And mutton biriyani made with seeraga samba rice. Love it is. Ghee rice topped with cashews, this went well with the Kadai chicken – Not a great one in my opinion and wasn’t bad either. Curd rice which we haven’t opted anyway.
For desserts we had Jigarthanda – they need to improvise it to bring in Madurai jigarthanda, brownie Sunday, vanilla ice cream and hot brownie. Falooda- not my go either, coconut soufflé: good enough for my taste buds, Karuppattimisu – My fav of all, loved it.
At last we ordered the Vatlappam – it had three versions: Sugar, jaggery, palm jaggery. The palm jiggery tops the all and this is a must try one here.
Ambiance: 5/5 nice to accommodate almost 40 and more persons
Cost: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Food, taste: 4/5
Over all rating 4/5.
ambiance clean 4/5.
Food 5/5 (prawns tawa fry , recommend).
Service fast and quick .
Pure authentic local flavours mixed , service is fast
This place is in my list for a very long time and finally Visited this place last Friday with two of my friends Bornfoodieforever & YeahitzYuvaraj
Maplai- known for their traditional style south indian dishes! This branch is located in rajaratnam street, kilpauk with ample amount of space for parking and all.
As soon as u enter the resto u’ll be greeted with that iconic TIGER painting (the same one in all the branches) and speaking of the ambiance the resto has some spacious dining area with extra two rooms for personal dining too and if u have been to other branches u know the way of lighting and wall painting it has..
we visited this place to try out their limited period menu MANAPATTI SAMAYAL(they’ll add / change new popup kitchen then and now- kudos to that!!)
If u are not familiar with the term Manapatti it’s an area in madurai known for having large no cooks and only cooks ! They’re known for cooking in various large scale functions in india and outside india. Like they used to serve food for over 5k, 10k people in a single preparation. The same cooks were asked to prepare dishes in this very own maplai kitchen to bring that delicacy to us. (DON’T MISS this opportunity guys, you can’t find or taste manapatti cooks dishes that easily :p )
MANAPATTI SANGAMAM :
A Non Veg Extravaganza!!
It consists of
-Manapatti mutton biriyani: not the usual biriyani u try everywhere . This particular biriyani is made on seeraga sambha rice with more of Mutton Bones than meat with lots of ghee and cashew.. this biriyani is rich and flavourful with all the checkboxes ticked!!
-Barotta
-Naatu kozhi kozhambhu: another important factor about manapatti samayal is they don’t use ginger/ garlic paste instead they pound it and add it as it is! So u find some chunks of garlic in the dish itself. This was one of the best naatu koxhi kozhambhu I’ve tried recently and it went well with parotta.
-Mutton and chicken chukka:
Both the meats were cooked to utmost perfection by tossing it with cashews, oil and chilli.
Ezhumbu rasam: it’s a rasam , it’s a soup, it’s ezhumbu rasam!! Another delicacy from the kitchen of manapatti.
Dhalcha: Finally! Finally! I got to taste the original dalcha in a HOTEL! Many places used to serve only dal in the name of dalcha , that they won’t add the main ingredient mutton bones in it. But dalcha from maplai got u covered. Taste the exact dalcha only available at maplai (as far as i know)
-Sambhar
-Rasam
-potato curry
All these items will set u back around 499+tax. Which i think is reasonable for this unique experience you get.
And i get to try some of their desserts too
Karupatimisu: all the tiramisu fans out there try this veraion of tiramisu (tiramisu made using karupatti ) a perfect blend of both the flavours!! MUST TRY FROM THEIR DESSERT MENU.
3 way wattalappam: wattalappam made using palm sugar, sugar and jaggery . This become my second favourite dessert out of the remaining i tried.
Overall it was a great experience to try south indian dishes as it is after a long time! I would definitely recommend this place for some authentic South Indian dishes!
Just visited maaplai restaurant today infact for the first time. Ambiance is good as is the service of staffs. Had Manapati Mutton briyani. It had a different taste from the usual briyanis and is good. Also tried Karupattimisu desert made of karupatti and icecream. I never tasted this before and found very delicious. Kudos to waiter Baasha who patiently explained about the food and the hotel.
Never did I know there was a maplai outlet in this part if the city until now, they've gone with the same outlook as to how their other branches are.
Bang on, on the main road with ample parking space.
Interiors are normal but it just clicks me right because of the curated playlist just perfect 😍😍
Ok right food that's what this review is all about!
Was here to try the:
Manappatti Sangamam Thali (499₹ + taxes)
Right after puratasi comes the perfect festival to break the curse in the name of NAMMA OORU MANAPPATTI SAMAYAL by @maplaichennai .Ever heard of the term "village of cooks"?, located in the interiors of Madurai (those folks love their meat there) are famous for preparing kari virunthu which serves people non-veg meals on special occasions from like as low as ear piercing function, puberty function, to the main gala MARRIAGE!!
The irony is that a head chef and his team of 20-25 can cook for 20,000 people with ease, but ask them to replicate the same for 10 or less they teeter😉 that's the level of grandeur they are exposed to. So head on to one of their branches and gorge in on some history while having some real good food 😍
So what does the thali comprise off
- Manapatti Mutton Biryani
- Barotta
- Chicken Chukka
- Mutton Chukka
- Manapatti Nattu Kozhi Kolambu
- Sambar
- Elambu Rasam
- Potato Curry
- Raitha
- Karupattimisu (separate)
I loved the experience as a whole and I really don't have any complaints or regrets regarding. The briyani rice was just right, with the amount of flavour and spice. Barotta along with the Naathukozhi kozhambu was a match made for itself. Same goes with the chukka also. Finishing it off with some rice and rasam is what topped and cannot be a better fitting anymore.
If you like tiramisu you gotta try this version for its done using KARUPATTI the natural form of sugar! Karupatti+ Tiramisu hence the name 🤩
Except for the rice and rasam everything else is limited, which is kinda a bummer for the money that is payed.
If you get a chance to look at these guys work you'll get the perfect meaning for synchronisation. Go on YouTube them 😎😋
Overall good food with some interesting ambience serving food as it as authentic as it can get!
Ambience: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
This one is way better than their branch in Neelankarai. Ordered fish tikka, tandoor chicken, crab Masala, Malabar parota , Ambur chicken biriyani. All tasted very good. Fish tikka was overpriced for 5 pieces. Our waiters “Baasha” and “Raavanan” served us well. Had a good lunch at #Maplai.
Being one of the famous restaurant when it comes to traditional South Indian, this place often proves that point with their special virundhu and thiruvizha's.
This outlet is located in a quiet space, easy-to-find with ample parking space at Kilpauk feels welcoming and friendly as soon as you enter.
Now, they have come up with a themed meal (virundhu) called 'Namma Ooru Manapatti Samayal' where the chefs have brought in from the village called "Manapatti" which is famous for mass non-veg feast. The food cannot get anymore authentic.
I tried the "Manapatti sangamam", which has a portion of Manapatti naatu kozhi kulambu, chicken chukka, mutton chukka, mutton biryani, parotta, nenjelumbu rasam and rice. Everything comes in a limited quantity except the rice and rasam which should be sufficient enough for a person. The meat were very well cooked to perfection. Chukkas were deep oil roasts and tastes brilliant. The entire virundhu is priced at Rs.499 which is reasonable for what they offer.
Finished off this feast with Katuppatumisu, coconut mousse and 3 way vattlalpam.
This virundhu is available till the end of November. Don't miss to try this one out.
Mutton ulathiyathu was too good. Great service from Basha and Raavanan
. Pleasant ambience too. Overall an excellent experience which is worth the penny.
I had been dying to visit this place! This place serves some traditional dishes from the South Indian region. The team usually puts a limited period menu once in a while.
I was here to taste one such special menu called " Namma ooru Manapatti Samayal ". Manapatti is a village which is close to Madurai. It's a village where men 👨🏾🍳 cook for huge crowds during special occasions or festivals. I got to know a lot about the kind of food they cook, the way they handle things in kitchen and lots more. I only wish I had met the cooks in person. Anyways, Thanks to Mr.Vinu for those talks. It provided insights into how they cook, live and travel! 🙏🏾
There was this thali that I tasted. It contained the following dishes,
• Naatukozhi Kozhambu - Country chicken gravy didn't have oil floating on top which was good. The gravy was consistent with right amount of spices. I loved it! 🔥👌🏽
• Mutton Chukka - Usually the mutton chukka is made using ginger garlic paste but they didn't use the paste instead they used chopped garlic and ginger. The flavours were on point and actually better than the other version where they use ginger garlic paste.👌🏽
- Chicken Chukka - Both the chukkas were good and were not oily. 🙈
- Mutton Daalcha - Mutton bones were used in the Daalcha which gave it a nice flavour.
- Mutton Rasam - The flavours were balanced.
- Potato Poriyal - Cooked well and they were chopped into small pieces. Didn't have difficulty eating it. 😊
- Onion Raita
- Parotta - Flakey and soft until they are hot but they get crispy as they cool. So eat it first.😅
- Mutton Biryani (Seeraga Samba 🍚) - Not many people love this kind of Biryani especially from Chennai. Rice was cooked well and the flavours were just right. Not too spicy. I suggest you to try this kind of Biryani once in a while.
All the above dishes from the Manapatti thali is cooked without the cooks tasting it. The cooks are accurate with quantities of ingredients being used! The dishes speak for themselves.😍
On the whole, this place is good for its meat specially mutton(personal favourite)! ♥️ If you miss some traditional Kongu or Chettinad dishes hit this place to satiate your cravings.
Thank you for hosting us Team Maplai! 🙏🏾 Thank you for being a wonderful host Mr.Vinu Shankar! 🙏🏾😊
P.S. - This is a limited period menu so grab your thalis ASAP. Some pictures were taken by Gundu Paiyyan!
Went to maplai kilpauk yesterday food, ambience, service was excellent Basha the one who served us was very polite. Hospitality was good and clean
Great Ambience. Had an authentic & tasty food varieties in starters, main course & desserts apart from the usual barbeque food menus. If you are new to Chennai definitely have to explore this restaurant. Service wise waiters Basha & Ravanan showed great hospitality in serving the food.

Parking would never be an issue here for both two wheelers and four wheelers. This is my first visit to Maplai and with so many reviews surrounding around, the expectations were always high. The ambience is just on point. The interiors, paintings and frames pinned to the wall gave this place a perfect touch.
The private dining room with some melodious tamil songs in the background felt so good. Quality of the food is one primary thing which differentiates Maplai from other South Indian Restaurants. We started off with a glass of 'Rose Milk'. The flavour was rightly dominant and enjoyable.
I was here to try the limited edition menu - 'Namma Ooru Manappatti Samayal'. The 'Mutton Chukka' ended up becoming my favourite. The meat was so well cooked and the cashews were just a bonus. The Chicken was tender and tasted good. The 'Manappatti Mutton Biryani' was completely a different package, definitely worth a try.
All the desserts had something different to offer. The tiramisu was made with Palm Jaggery, was yummy. The 'Coconut Souffle' and madurai famous 'Jigarthanda' is something to watch out for.
Went for lunch and really enjoyed the food. The soups are a must have. Kottu parota was very tasty. Basha who was attending us was very friendly and polite.

Maplai being my favourite chettinad restaurant, i visited their kilpauk branch, which was launched recently. And i was amazed by their classy interiors which and wall art. Interiors being on point, couldn't wait further to try their delicious chettinad food varities. As usual, every dish right from the starters to desserts were kickass, and are good enough to make anyone fall in love with the restaurant. What makes the experience more comfortable is their courteous service.
I went there for dinner, and the dishes i liked the most are sugarcane mojito (best ever mojito i have tried) nenjelumbu soup, podi paniyaram, mutton chukka, chinthamani chicken, mutton kola urundai, parotta and chicken curry, mutton biryani, (desserts) karupattimisu, halwa with butterscotch ice cream.
Overall a complete value for money, especially if you're a non veg lover then this is a heaven on earth♥️

Ambience was great....food was so authentic and nice...service was great....service by mr.baasha was great......we were fabergasted by the taste of chicken chukka dosa
We crashed in here for a weekday dinner and we were so happy to see their signature tiger face at the entry.
We love the ambience. It was warm, calm and welcoming.
The staffs were polite and kind enough to arrange seating for almost 10 people.
We were greeted with SUGARCANE MOJITO. A drink with sugarcane juice and mint.
Coming to the food, we had great expectations from MAPLAI because of our previous experience at the place.
To be short, they almost met our expectations.
First came the soups. We got the nenjelumbu soup with was nice and flavour packed.
We started off with so many starters.
On the Vegetarian side, I loved the PODI PANIYARAM and kept going for more. Next came THE KAYIR KATTI KOLA URUNDAI which was okayish. Didn't get my taste buds going. Next came the MALAI PANEER TIKKA. The paneer was perfect cooked and seasoned but I felt it was bit too sweet to my liking.
On the NONVEG SIDE, first came the CHINTAMANI CHICKEN. Oh man it was Soo good. We loved how simple the dish was and yet so yum you couldn't stop eating. MUTTON CHUKKA was the next to come and obviously it was absolutely amazing 😍 I always have a soft corner for mutton and yes it was Soo good.
For seafood came the PRAWN TAWA FRY. The marination was really good and perfectly seasoned. I personally felt the prawns were undercooked, but when informed they were happy to change it too. Kudos to the service. KARUVEPILAI MILAGU KOZHI ended our starters perfectly.
MAIN COURSE:
First came the MUTTON BIRYANI, which I already said for the love of mutton, the biryani was so good. Next came INDIAN BREADS AND PAYA. Few of the breads went good with paya. The IDIYAPPAM was the perfect combination.
Moving to DESSERTS, we were pretty excited because of the very good starters and main course. First came the all time famous, KARUPATTIMISU, which is a twist of a Continental dessert with Indian ingredients. I didn't get a chance to try it, but people who came with us enjoyed and loved it. Then came FALOODAS which were amazing too.
Overall, a very good south Indian restaurant where you can celebrate South Indian cuisine. Yes there were some ups and downs, but it can be ignored. Go with your family and enjoy your time.
Maplai is one of the very few restaurants in Chennai that serves some authentic South Indian dishes with the perfect amount of regional flavour of spices, and now they have opened another branch in rajarathinam street , Kilpauk. The ambience was pretty decent and neat.
Coming to the dishes tried,
Portioning of the starters felt little for the price charged, but the taste was really amazing. You can blindly choose the mutton kola, Super spicy Andhra chicken and the prawn tawa fry , which seemed to be the best among other dishes. The chicken was soft, juicy and delicious. The prawns were cooked rightly with the perfect amount of spices.
For the main course,
Mutton Biryani,
A very authentic seeraga samba briyani tasted really good.
Idiyappam Briyani,
It was basically shredded idiyappam in briyani masala, I wasn't much impressed with it.
coin barotta
Crispy small sized barottas tasted way better than our usual parottas, could be paired with chettinad gravy :)
Desserts,
3 way Vattalapam was my favourite,
3 different coconut custard with Jaggery, palm Jaggery and sugar.
Butter on wheat
Hot wheat halwa topped with butterscotch ice cream.
Tiramisu done with karupatti flavour was perfectly delicious.

I taught it would be an normal restaurant after going inside saw the menu . It took me to the taste the food of Tamil Nadu . The spices and masala’s mixed was perfect . The food was not much spicer. I loved their service , food and ambience . At the end, I didn’t expect that brownie sundae would in a bar glass . Totally enjoyed the food .
I kept hearing alot about this place and finally decided to try out their new outlet which I opened at Kilpauk. I haven't been to other outlets so can't tell if this one is better or not compared to rest. But I personally liked this one.
Right from the moment I entered I could get the feeling of typical south indian vibes. It was so refreshing. Staffs are so polite and friendly. They made sure we were comfortable.
Talking about the food, it's best for non vegetarians but being said that, I can give you guarantee that vegetarians will definitely have their own meal and they will definitely love it. Telling this out of my own personal experience.
Right from soup to desserts I loved what I ate. Typical south indain food which gives you they best flavours and taste of it.
I would recommend kovai podi paniyaram because this is something different from the normal paniyarams which we eat.
Try out their paneer dishes as well. And and don't forget to try their parottas. Well in short try everything because you will love them.
Overall I loved my experience their. Do check them out.
Happy eating! 💜
It was an ordinary evening when we decided to meet at the new Maplai joint at Kilpauk. The people there gave us a warm entry and directed us to our seats. The room oozed of happiness from the bright and vibrant paintings that coloured the walls. The tables were neatly arranged with the napkins too rolled inside a steel ring, a different take there.
Started things off with a mutton soup – the soup was typical muttony but a little too watery to my liking. We had tons of appetisers to start things off. Chintamani chicken was the first to come and was a neat and tidy scoop of chicken. Then we tried the super soft Podi paniyaram with the outer layer covered in podi (obvious isn’t it) – a first time for me and I loved it. Paneer Ka Thakali was the tomato way of having the elite Indian veggie of choice.
The malai paneer tikka is something that I would recommend anyone who like to admire the look of the dish as much as the taste. This one was super soft and sweet and much loved. Karuvepilai Milagu Kozhi was a dish that typifies the name itself. A well prepared dish that has a taste hangover for a while after too. Mutton Chukka and Prawn tawa were exquisite as the photos will testify. The sura puttu was a good try too. There are restaurants that get it wrong and have a poor aftertaste, but not this one.
And then there is my favourite mutton starter in Chennai – Mutton Kair katti Kola Urundai – minced mutton balls held together by banana fibre strips. This famed dish has been fabulously recreated by the restaurant. The minced meat is finely prepared and I suppose mixed with egg too for the perfect shape. In the end, what you get is an exclusive fragrance as you peel off the banana fibres from the top. The bite is absorbing as you shear through the crispy outer layer into the mellowness that lies beneath what you see. That is bliss my friend.
Had a sugarcane mojito – a dash of mint and lemon in sugarcane juice. They had placed a long strip of sugarcane in the glass which was a nice touch and blended well. Started main course with appam and idiyappam which were properly made. Naatu kozhi Kuzhambu was another authentic dish that was served and it cannot get better. The Madurai mutton biriyani was a first time for me and I loved it. The mutton idiappam biriyani was essentially a biriyanised kothu idiyappam and that was too good I had to parcel one too.
The choice of desserts are also varied here. Another Maplai trademark that I never miss is the Karipattimisu – a fantastic blend of tiramisu and karipatti. It never ceases to amaze me. The falooda and brownie sundae was more like the regular though. The 3 way vattalappam was a very precisely made dessert, you can ask me to close my eyes and taste the 3 varied flavours and I will instantly pick each one out – Kudos to the chef on that.
In short, a lovely evening capped by sumptuous food. A must try for anybody in the area. You cannot get it wrong here.
Food was on the house and this review is that of a vegetarian. If this doesn't give you enough reasons to scroll by, read on.
In a locality that boasts pure veg Chinese and asian places and a haven for vegetarians like me, to survive as a stand alone meat serving place is a tough task. Maplai have been doing it like a pro time and again. If not for the personal persuasion and invite from Vinu, I doubt if I'd have visited the place being a vegetarian. HOWEVER, herbivores do have a reason to drop in here. The table room is vast to seat about 60 odd diners that's comfy and cozy to sit and eat. This ambiance typically would suit hardcore meat loving large pax, yet I'd give it a skip if I'm going here for a special date (unless the date is with food). There's a fair amount of detail spent on the interiors keeping in mind the chettinad theme. Small wooden hand carved articles fill the room that adds up to the detail.
Food -
Being a little late to the party, I started the meal with a curry leaf soup. It was a clear thin soup with flavors predominantly topped with the aroma of curry leaves, melts in the mouth and creates a good appetite and prepares the palatte for the on coming flavour outburst.
Kovai Podi paniyaram - Has more of a kovai in the name than the paniyaram. The podi was subltle enough on the tastebud yet generous enough to absorb all the oil from the balls. Stuffed with sparse tomatoes and coriander minces did uplift the dish overall. I could keep gobbling them all day. I do not remember any chutney being served on the side but I bet it was flawless and moist enough to be eaten alone.
Paneer Ka thakali - We emrace hindi, see? I do not understand the dish quite well. it's a paneer dish that's sauteed in a sweet tomato puree. I could sense a good amount of sweetness that probably came from the puree or added. If not to knitpick this is one fine plate again. Real tender battons of paneer were handled with care and were not made rubbery in the process at the saame time making sure they are moist-hot till the core. This dish is more like a north-Indian batliwala lost in Chennai.
Main course was limited to a couiple of biriyanis and indian breads for the vegetarians. We do get a good range of south indian curries that go amazingly well with the parottas. Speaking of parottas, I approve of their authenticity to good parottas. This is the closest to the best parottas I've had in whole of madurai. They are at the same time not dripping with oil so safe to binge eat. Their coin parotta is also a must try if you're into the whole parotta love thing. They go amazingly well with urulai chettinad.
Coconut souffle and karupatti tiramisu for desserts could never get any better. Souffle had entered a negative eye in my view after being tarnished of it's goodness in almost every buffet spread. 99.9% of every souffle I've tried so far has been disasterous. This one however, changed it all. The coconut cream that was set in a mould was brilliant with just natural sweetness of the coconut with zero add-ons that could spoil the platter. Being nauseous to cardomom, I could barely sense any bit of cardomom in the dish, which is a big big step ahead. Maplai just set the bar pretty high for the dessert scene in Chennai. Karupattimisu is yet another tiramisu with a striking aftertaste of karupatti. I found it to be a tad too sweet for the palate, but probably because of the accustamation of praline coconut souffle.
All being said, this is a place for vegatarians if you appreciate good south Indian food. Meat being served and hogged around doesn't affect the ambiance one bit (if such things turn down your appetite). Being a fan of their brand I would vouch that vegetarian food is prepared separately. And to those who would still order a butternaan and panner buttermasala, pity you.

A food coma is guaranteed every time I visit Maplai . A second visit to the recently opened Kilpauk branch (love the interiors!) and it was no different. Walked out with a happy tummy and mind.
Dinner commenced with a “Sugarcane mojito”. This isn’t your usual mojito with soda or artificial flavoring. In fact, there’s no soda nor is it watered down. Just freshly pressed juice with mint.
Next was “Karuvepillai Soup”. My first experience. Quite nice.
A plethora of starters appeared on the table, with a few stand out dishes and the usual suspects from the restaurant.
“Chicken Chintamani” - flavorful chicken bombs chicken tossed with dry red chillies, small onions and a few secret ingredients. Wish this was boneless though.
“Thanjavur Kair Katti Kola” is their signature. Minced mutton baubles deep fried with the softest meat on the inside. Perfectly spiced. You’ve gotta try this!
“Sura Puttu” or shredded shark is something close to my heart. This reminded me what we make at home. In other words, it was a winner. It was probably the catch from that morning but it had a slight “ocean” odour.
Next was paneer two ways. “Malai Paneer Tikka” and “Panner ka Thakali”
The tikka came at the right time, a break from all the heavily flavorful dishes. But, this dish was glorious in its own way. Rich yet subtle.
The red batons of paneer were deep fried and was slightly sweet. Similar to “dragon” style dishes.
I usually get their Thalasherry biryani, but tonight, it was their “Mutton Idiyappam Biryani”. Oh my, this dish was the star of the night. The shredded string hoppers were tossed so well, not one morsel was bland. Meat was super tender. (I usually dont enjoy mutton)
Stuffed to brim, but there’s always space for dessert. Especially, for their “Karupattimisu”.
I dont even see the menu card for dessert at Maplai. I always go for their take on the humble tiramisu. Super light and airy mousse, layers of moist cake and hints of Karupatti lingering after every spoon.

Gud ambience and service.polite personnel.taste very gud.nice variety..Try mutton kola the best i hav tasted .chinthamini chicken tasted gud ..Neer more was awesome
I've already been to their nungambakam branch and now finally they have opened they're 3rd outlet in Kilpauk and it's more convenient for me xD . This one is much bigger and can accommodate more people compared to the other two branches and even ambience is pretty good . This is one place that always satisfies my cravings for chetinnad cuisine .
Started off with a NENJELUMBU SOUP and it was rightly flavoured except for a bit less off salt in it with a few pieces of nenjelumbu in it. And then came the first starter to the table which was KOVAI PODI PANIYARAM . Well I should say it totally blew mind, I never thought it to be soo good . The ghee and podi were totally infused to it and when you take a bite it just brings a big smile to your face . Then came the first non veg starter to the table which was a KAIR KATTI KOLA URUDAI , this is their their signature dish I and I know why this has been their best selling starters from the menu. There was an another non veg starter called the CHINTHAMANI CHICKEN, I was totally amazed when i heard what are all the ingredients that goes into making this dish . It's just tomatoes and onions with no sorts of masala added to it also the chickens were well cooked . MALAI PANEER TIKKA for the Vegetarians and the paneer was soft and moist, being it a malai based paneer tikka it wasn't too sweet . MAPLAI MUTTON CHUKKA was absolutely succulent and was really spicy, the spices and meats Flavour goes absolutely well together. There was also a sea starter called the PRAWN TAWA FRY which was prawns cooked in a chili marination, the prawns were cooked to perfection which helped in retaining the juice a d tenderness from the prawn . I can't believe we are so many starters and the list ends with this one called the KARUVEPILAI MELAGU KOZHI and it was perfect finish to our starters.
With almost full tummy we went ahead to order our main course. First came the MUTTON BIRIYANI which was made with traditional seeraga samba rice and it had the right amount of flavours. MUTTON PAYA came along with a few Indian breads and idiyapam. Paya was good in flavours and had the right amount of pepper in it cuz Normally other restaurants use a lot of pepper in the gravy. Also came the CHETTINAD CHICKEN gravy which had the right amount of spices and tangy flavour to it. Over all the main course was just spot on both taste and quantity.
And finishing it off with some desserts and that too traditional desserts with a twist or continental desserts with an Indian twist. My all time favourite karupatimissu is a must try if you love tiramisu, you do taste a hint of palm sugar in it . They also had falooda which ain't the traditional one but definitely a delicious and Instagram worthy one. Butter on wheat is a new twist to the wheat halwa, Butter scotch ice cream with the Tirunelveli style halwa is a new twist and it did taste good.
Overall this place and this particular branch is into my favourite list for Chettinad cuisine. Right from the service to ambience and right starters to desserts everything was spot on and it's very rare that every course of our meal tastes that good and lives up to our expectations.

Maplai hands down is one of my favorite restaurants in the city thanks to their authentic spread of food with a brilliant taste and who can forget their awesome desserts too..And when a new outlet of theirs opened up in kilpauk i was looking for chance to be their which i finally got on friday for dinner with a few foodie friends..Located in the rajarathinam street this comes in the lane next to EGA theatre and you need to take the first left..The outlet has some good parking space and the valets too are present at the parking..
Ambiance wise i felt this outlet to be the best coz it was big and spacious with neat and royal looking dining area..two floor seating and 3 PDR's to seat around 70-80 ppl in total..Perfectly cooled place with familiar tiger wall painting welcoming you inside the restaurant..The walls adore a few paintings that depict the folk dances and stuff of various parts of tamilnadu..The Service was not notch with Mr.Basha who was our server being brilliant..was polite and friendly and made sure we got all that we needed and on time..Here the servers use nicknames that relate to their favorite movies..
We did try a whole array of items and given below is my take on them...
Mutton Nenju Elumbu Soup : Clear consistent with slightly lesser salt to pepper was to to perfection with few slices of meat and bones..Too good and definitely a blessing for ppl with a sore throat..
Kovai Podi Paniyaram : Though i dont get the name kovai these paniyarams were really good with a soft and moist inside that were tossed in a perfect modi to give a yummy taste...
Kair Katti Kola Uruandai : This man is my absolute favorite here and probably the best i have had in chennai..So soft with lip smackingly yummy taste this is a must try for sure...
Vazhai Poo Kola Urudai : The veg counter part of the kola uruandai though not as good as the mutton variant this too is great in taste..
Chintamani Chicken : A native recipe of the kongunad region this was just too good with taste a bit on the spicier side and also a bit of tanginess..The Bones amt was a bit high which made it quite hard to cherish..
Malai Paneer Tikka : Soft and moist paneer cubes cooked well in Cashew bases sauce...was a bit cremier than expected but was just good in taste..
Maplai Mutton Chukka : Small Cubes of succulent mutton cooked perfectly in the chukka masala..a bit spicy but was just too yummy that am salivating as am writing about it..
Paneer Ka Thakali : Another of my favorites at Maplai this tomato based fried and tossed paneer cubes is a must try for sure...they also have chicken variant for the non veggies...
Prawn Tawa Fry : Soft and juicy prawns dry fried on tawa to give spicy taste thanks to the brilliant chili marinade..
Karuvapillai Milagu Kozhi : This was a nattu kozhi cooked in with a lot of curry leave in gingely oil along with spices was a bit juicy and was good in taste too..
Madurai Mutton Biyani : One of the places where the Seeraga Samba biryani is as it should be..Perfectly flavored and really aromatic with good succulent pieces of meat..this one was a blast of flavors and a brilliant biryani..
Idiyappam Mutton Biryani : Idiyappam cooked in with mutton and and served as a biryani..This one was better than i expected it to be..Flavors were intact and it had a wonderful texture..
Indian Breads : Tried the Aapam, Idiappam and parottas all of which were just brilliant...
Mutton Paya : Paya/Lamb trotter in spicy pepper based gravy that was just brilliant in taste..
Chettinad Kozhi Curry : Spicy and tangy Chicken Based gravy which too was good in taste..
3 Way Vattlapam : 3 Small custards with different sweetening agents used..one was the Sugar based one which was good and the nest was jaggery based one while the last was palm jaggery/karupatti based one which was the best of the lot...
Coconut Souffle : This was so fresh and tasty with a perfect taste of tender coconut..The Praline and safron topping was just the best..
Karupattimisu : One of the best Desserts in chennai IMO and a must try..definitely recommended..am in loss of words to explain this...
Sugarcane Mojito : Fresh sugar cane juice muddled with mint leaves and lemon minus the soda..This one was an absolutely refreshing drink and a crowd favorite...
Nannari Sharbath : Perfect Nannari sharbath with mint leaves and basil seeds which was perfect to wash down the brilliant food...
To Put in plain and simple Maplai is a must try place in chennai..With an menu thats is limited to items that they specialize in and perfectly delivering them this cant get better...
Definitely Recommended..
There are very FEW Restaurants in Chennai that serves Proper Tamil Nadu Cuisine and In that , Maplai stands in Top 3 of my List of Favs ...
And this is Opp. Beverly Hotels or the Very famous PADMA FOODS in Rajaratinam Street . Went here last night and the first thing that attracted was the Ambience.. It was spacious, Calm and less noisy when compared to the Nungambakkam one .. The interior of this place is something I loved .. It was Very catchy and pleasant .
And coming to the Table arrangements , Loved the Place mat which was in Red and also I love I the Cutleries they use, It was very classy but sadly the Spoon given for the Soup was tooo Heavy and lengthy as they are providing their in a Small Bowl . The handle of the Spoon was Weighing down which might fall and splash on ur Face .
And coming to the Drinks, I JUST loved The Sugarcane Mojito , Still the taste is lingering on my tongue 😋😋😋 but as the Name Says, Mojito , It doesn’t contain Any CO2/ FIZZ .. It was more or like the Sugarcane juice u find from THALLU VANDI guy who sells Sugarcane juice .. And apparently they used the ORIGINAL SUGARCANE CRUSHER to make the juice and in that They have added Lemons and GINGER .. I feel like having that NOW 🤤🤤
SOUP n STARTERS- I had tasted most of the items they served me but My fav was the NALLIBONE SOUP and the PODI POTA kuzhi Paniyaaram 😋 Also in Non Veg , I loved the TAWA PRAWNS and Their Signature MUTTON KOZHA URUNDAI .. They were Yumm .. Others were good but didn’t impress my taste buds .. I sticked to my Favs
MAINS - I was too full to eat Main but still had few Spoons of IDIYAPPAM BIRIYANI and MADURAI STYLE MUTTON BIRIYANI (this is something I loved a lot and its my first time that I really loved a Biriyani made with Seeraga Samba Rice ) loved the AROMA OF IT AND ALSO THE TASTE AS WELL .. Wish I had but was too full from the starters 😞😞 and also Tried their Appam , it was good but Not wow cuz I love a a Good Homemade Appam
DESSERTS- ORDERED Karuputtimisu and 3ways of Vatlappam (just for the taste) , LOVE THE KARUPUTTIMISU , the taste of the Karuputti was very authentic and original, it took me back to my Native town and Karuputti Coffee Times 😋😋😋 It was toooo good and Vatlappam is not something I expected to be , It tasted just like a Caramel CUSTRAD because Vatlappam is Traditional in my native town and we make on every EID as a Festive Dessert .. I couldn’t taste the authenticity of the Vatlappam ..
Overall A Good Experience , Would Love to visit again for tasting the SEERAGA SAMBA BIRIYANI 😋😋 and the Karuputtimisu 😋😋🤤🤤
At last, a decent restaurant in Kilpauk serving meat lovers!
Beautifully done fuss-free interiors... really uncluttered, go well with the South Indian theme. I loved the red table mats and the red serviettes. Brass napkin rings are a nice touch.
The service staff is very courteous and helpful. The service was quick and efficient.
We loved the Thanjavur kair katti golas...melt in your mouth and subtly flavoured. The appam and stew combination was a winner as well. Did not enjoy the Dosa with the mutton chukka... maybe we were too full to do justice to it. The karupatti tiramisu was absolutely fabulous.
All in all, a great place!
Newly opened branch in Kilpauk . The interiors and the ambience was really good . The service also was fast and prompt . Loved the food , the rice was well cooked and quantity was also nice added with all the veggies . Overall had a great experience at Maplai .
Third branch of a restaurant with an authentic South Indian food or to be more particular, food from Madurai opens up in Kilpauk just few mins walk away from Ega theatre. Location wise still not easily found as their previous two, few hoardings in main road would be better. Two storey building mainly attracting the families dominated in bright red color, grandeur in furnitures, small mats for the plates and many likewise things.
Myself and my parents have been their for a late Saturday lunch. CHEPPANKIZHANGU ROAST tasted like Nendharam pazham chips superbly roasted in idli podi alike without any oil whatsover and those crispy Karuveppillai needed a mention. LACCHA PAROTTA made in tandoor preparation with could've been lesser more suggary PANNEER MAKHANI was just decent. Since it's actually not their special, no complaints. NON VEG started with simple and worthy MUTTON OMELETTE at 170 ₹, small pieces of soft Mutton stuffed into, little dry for me. KOKKARAKO CHICKEN LOLLYPOP was something different without being saucy, the spices acted good. Seeraga Samba flavored MADURAI MUTTON BIRIYANI was really good. Tender meat portions went well with the flavorful rice.
Desserts we had 3 WAY VATTALAPPAM, an appam shaped mousse made with 3 flavors each one with Karuppatti (Palm Jaggery), Sugar and Jaggery. Sugar one was decent, but the other two were true melt in the mouth. Loved it. Their much specialised KARUPPATTIMISU, a Tiramisu done with Karuppatti flavor was decent for me compared to the previous dessert.
Overall - A total bill of 1666 ₹ paused my heart beat for a second but then I had the satisfaction of tasting different things in the menu, happy that my parents liked it as well, no regrets. Service by Baasha and Veda were very courteous, helped us thro out the meal. A perfect Family lunch that was.
Thank you Maplai :)
Awesome Food! Very nice people.. must walk in and look for Sivaji - very humble and sweet person.. Ambience and Service is excellent..Food lovers will Njoy the most..
Have been hearing a lot about Maplai for ages... Finally we managed to visit at their newly opened location in Kipauk...
This is a house that is converted into a restaurant... they have dine-in area on two floors... In the front of the restaurant they have a hand cart that has snacks like those you get in a tea shop... We chose ginger sweet and Kamarkat... both were good...
We got seated in 5minutes... Biryani festival was going on and so if we bought one, we would get the other free...
We ordered the Chicken Ambur Biryani and Madurai Mutton Biryani... For starters we ordered Butter Fried Chicken and we even ordered Neer More to drink...
The chicken starter arrived first... It was basically a tweaked version of chicken 65... had a curry and onion flavour to it... Was good.. Nothing great.. but went well with the biryani...
The biryani took time to arrive... The Ambur biryani was made of full grain basmati rice and the Madurai biryani made of tiny Seeraga Samba rice....
Both the biryanis tasted amazing and the meat in them was tender... the biryanis were served with Salna and onion raita....
Neer more was cold and refreshing though I felt it had a tad bit too much of curry leaves...
Need to visit again to try their thalis which is what they are famous for...
Service is very very slow... Had to wait for more than 10 minutes for the bill itself... They need to work on that..
Satisfying lunch... Will visit again...
A sudden plan me and my wife ended at this place in kilpauk opposite hotel Beverly. Amazing place for South Indian food. Do try the Nattu Kozhi kolambu. The interiors are nice and give you a royal feeling, the staff is very courteous and prompt , service is good. It's must visit place for those looking for South Indian non veg.
It's been on my list for long time soOne fine Sunday decided to visit there with my family .orderd nandu rasam kola urundai, brain fry, mutton sukka, butter naan tandoori roti, chicken masala, prawn Briyani, thalasery biriyani.
