So the food here tastes amazing. Especially the sides, where u have a lot of options to choose from in non veg. U can also order meals and order any of the curries or fry items. They taste pretty amazing. And the quantity is also really good here. The non veg fry items or curries are total VFM here. Takeaway is recommended, as the ambience is not that great. Although service is quick. Will definitely recommend this place for authentic South Indian non veg food..!

Reasonable price for all food items. Quantity is more compare to other restaurants. Here u can experience the real South Indian spicy foods. I’ll give 4.5 star for this restaurant.
I've seen this restaurant at its peak and I've seen it fall ! My parents used to tell me how famous this restaurant was back in the day.
But the taste hasn't changed much in the years which is good. Good service too. Very reasonable prices btw. It lacks car parking and there are some shops nearby which are major no nos.
Pretty old restaurant in nungambakkam. Ambiance was very normal but A/C though. Kothu parotta Veech parotta was good. But felt that pricing for parotta items is bit high. Serving was not delayed.

Had gone for lunch with my friend. Ambience is just a mess. But who cares ambience when we are hungry for lunch. Coming to food we entered the ac place and they brought a plate with all the sides dishes more than 25 to 30 varieties and we had to choose what we want. I liked it as we know what we are going to get before order and eat.
Went for the meals which included greens, kottu and poriyal. Started off with mutton curry it was amazing and spicy. Then Fish curry it was sour and spicy not much to my liking but nothing to complain. Nattu kozhi curry was amazing, spicy and it tasted perfect. Crab curry was spicy with good amount of pepper and crab tasted was evident in the same, just loves it to the core. They had chicken gravy aswell,Sambar,rasam and moor.
Side dish
Kola urandai- was crispy and spicy but I have had better ones than here.
Boti- was amazing with nice amount of shallots, garlic and pepper in it.
Liver pepper fry- was tasting amazing with good amount of spice and no stinge of rawness which was great.
Brain fry was cooked to perfection and was tasting yummy the show stopper of all.
Prawns fry was amazing with nice medium sized prawns juicy too and perfect for the rasam.
I would say come for lunch and enjoy ensure go as group of 2 or more so we can enjoy all the sides without wasting.
I will definitely come again for sure to catch up for lunch here.

In 2016, when I was very new in Chennai, I used to have dinner, snacks here. This hotel is very old, but now around 20 to 25 restro, biriyani outlets are in 500 meters. So be in competition and keep stand is difficult.
So, the lunch meals is quite ok because many times they miss to serve some good items like apalam wont give, Smtym sabji, smtym curd. But still ppl rush here.
But ok in quality, now they also started mamiyar mess just beside this restro, u can hv combo meals here.
Good thing is this veg n non veg both are @₹60/meals .

The first choice for authentic south side food.. Don't go for Chinese items but with thumbs up go for Tamil Nadu specials. Even the meals is great with many curries 👍
Traditional, and old styled, with little to expect on ambience. This joint welcomes you with hot rasam and keeps you cool with buttermilk. They seem to have an edge towards chicken and it attracts lot of crowd despite low on ambience, as stated earlier
This is the decent chettinadu hotel with cheaper rates. We had one non-veg meals and naatu kozhi biriyani as main course with the sidedish like chicken 65, Fish finger, kadamba fry(squid) and prawn pepper fry. Non-veg meals was really good to have here because of good taste and low price. Naatu kozhi biriyani was excellent. The quantity also more for naatu kozhi biriyani. Coming to sidedish, chicken 65 was soft and juicy, prawn pepper fry and fish finger was okay. But the kadamba fry was excellent here. If gang of boys hang out here to have lunch, can have tummy full lunch with less bill amount.
The only negative is, the service and ambience. Hotel was too crowded and service was bit slow.
Overall, a must visit hotel for non-veg meals and naatu kozhi biriyani with decent sidedish at cheaper rate.
I went to this place thinking it was Velu Military Hotel and was looking for the same in Zomato. But looks like the management changed.

This is one of the best restaurants to have some spicy south Indian non veg food. Very affordable, decent quantity and above all the taste which will please all spicy lover's..! An ideal budget friendly place for typical Chennai middle class..!
Finally the wait is over!
After a long gap of full 4 months, time arrived to have the new year celebration treat. Then with my friend ordered chicken briyani,egg briyani,chicken lolli pop and yummy vanjiram fish fry (take away). Even after an hour travel to home the food retained its exquisite taste. Next what else it was a chock full tummy. :-)
Are you kidding me, a perfect chettinad meal for a hungry hulk. Almost most of the dish are perfect. Veggies please excuse for not getting 100% satisfaction on plate, but good & enough for non-veg lovers. Parking only for two wheelers, cars need to risk it out on the congested road.
Authentic tamil nadu food. Ambience is below par but the quality of the food is par excellence. I had to order one more biryani to satisfy myself. The fish fry , fish curry and mutton reminded me on eating in these places twenty years back. The waiters want to feed you more just the way you would feed visitors to your home. Impressive hospitality. I should visit more of such mess culture restaurants.
Been there thinking it's Velu Military yet, but shocked to know it doesn't exist anymore... Anyway, this was good too. We took meals and Sura Puttu, Botti Fry & Prawns Fry. All were good. The mutton curry and Nandu kuzhambu were very spicy which actually kills it's real taste. The fish curry and rasam were a bit disappointing as it wasn't how it should be... Otherwise it's a good place and VFM. The older one's ambiance was better.
Best point, good to see the spread of side dishes they display for you to choose which is a tradition of our Muniyandi Vilas hotels... :)

One of very few tasty chetinadu restaurants around Nungambakkam. This restaurant will fail satisfying the people expecting good ambience. A simple ambience with great taste. Guys if you are visiting here, do try mutton kola and biriyani..
Authentic Chettinad food. And this place is synonymous with that phrase. My hostel was just five minutes per place and formed a must stop shop every week for dinner. Having eaten almost every item on their menu, this is an easily affordable place where you get Amma kaila pannina madhri saapadu. And when you are living by yourself, that is what you crave for most. Hence, this place is home. Must try dishes: Chicken/Egg Kothu parotta, Non-veg meals on a Sunday afternoon, Chicken lollipop, Chettinad Chicken, Prawn pepper fry and yeah of course, their CHICKEN BIRIYANI.
The only few restaurant that served chicken briyani on banana leaf.. The quantity is less compared to the price.. The rice and grevy which was kept are definitely having true traditional taste.. The ambience were not good.. A good place for non veg lovers..

Dining here after a very long time, the place has changed in the sense that they no longer have a first floor area and the ground floor is now the entire restaurant.
They no longer have their signature displayed food menu but a more straight forward one. Yet this has not affected their flavors.
The biryani and the kaadai fry were still finger llicking good, though the mutton biryani could hAve had some more masala.
Beeda as the finisher for the meal is a classic touch.
Good Joint for Food, Slightly Overpriced But Taste wise its ok . Favorite item there was Porotta and Chilly Chicken which is Attached

Given the price, this is a very good food joint. Skip the ambience part and you will actually enjoy the food served by them....try chicken pepper fry in gravy, yes !! they will amend the dishes as per your request.
Service is promt and straight, don't expect any Nuisance nor any Favours... staff will stick to exactly what they are suppose to do.
Restaurant has very good variety of non-veg dishes, and the cost is very reasonable! Crab fry, Prawns malasa & Nathu kozhi biriyani are my favourites! Mutton varieties are very delicious here and should give a try. We get a non-veg plate meal served on banana leaf for Rs.45/-! Though I don't find this plate meal very delicious, for 45 Rs. it's a good offer! They also have both AC & Non-AC dining halls. This eatery is worthful for our money :)
