Had been here few times for lunch... very calm place.. parking available in front of the resto...tried their urulai vanthagal, poondu kolambu, steamed rice , Plain biryani , kozhi saaru.
Urulai vathagal - at its best.golden fried baby potatoes with perfect spices 👌🏻
Steamed rice - basmati rice well cooked . need to increase the portion of rice as it goes easily with poondu kolambu and urulai vathagal.
Poondu kolambu- Delicious as home made. Need to be more spicy .
Plain biryani - Definitely,this is not the place for biryani lovers... it's just in between biryani and tomato rice

Located just behind Marudeeswarar Temple Tank on East Mada Street, this is quite a known and easily accessible location.
The décor, ambience, friendliness of the staff and quality : everything was quite good.
We had Tawa Fish Fry which was boneless and spices were really good.
Then came Mangalorean chicken Kasi Gossi (or something similar sounding) which was not boneless and had just three pieces of chicken.
Alongwith these, we had a garlic naan, a plain naan and a garlic roti.
The bill came to 535/- including 25/- service charge plus we have 25/- as tip.
Overall experience was good. The chicken pieces in the gravy could have been more, I felt.

Looks like a very odd place from the outside but as you proceed inside, you'll be taken aback by the orderly arranged tables, faint and soothing lighting and a good sense of mood sets in immediately.
Once we settled in, we went ahead and ordered Chicken Parotta, Kari Dosa, and Kerala Kozhi Nadan Curry to accompany them. It took a little while for preparation. Kari Dosa was exceptional. Chicken Parotta was a little dry on the corners, otherwise totally great. I haven't had Kerala style Nadan curry before. It was different and tasted good. Went well with the Dosa and Parotta. The dinner was excellent.
The hotel offers five different cuisines, which is good. The seating arrangement is neat but a little cramped. Otherwise, a great place to try different styles of food.
Have been to this place many times as well as requested home delivery. The food is great.. My favorites are Kodi vepudu, era melagu perattal and chicken manchurian.. Gives a homely touch to the taste..Service and delivery is prompt. One advantage is they send across card machine to swipe for payment during door delivery which even bug restaurants around that area don't do.. Makes payment more easier..
This is the one place which serves extremely tasty non veg food ! The wheat paratha are amazing with some of the mouth watering starters , usually very prompt service which can never go wrong ! Good place for ordering when u really feel like having some tasty food !

The menu has dishes special dishes of the 4 southern states plus Chinese.
We tried #Steamed rice with #Thakkali pappu, #Mushroom melagu peratal, #Urulai vathakal and #veg noodles.
The steamed rice was basmati rice, with ghee, thakkali pappu and urulai it was great. The mushroom was different and good, veg noodles and banana split desert were OK. For all the main dishes sides should be ordered as no sides will be provided.
Have tried the #Bisbela bath and #Baby corn pepper salt once before both were good.
One can try this place if one is ready for the complete ala carte style.
My first time here. Very good ambiance, comfy and friendly staffs to start with. Quick service too. As it was my first time here, I ordered a very common dish - Szechwan fried rice and chicken lollipop. Szechwan fried rice was good and spicy. Chicken lollipop was under cooked. Nothing more to say. Looking forward to try out a different cuisine next time.

I drive through this place every day for many years , and i always see the neon menu board in the evening , with interesting dishes. Yesterday was the day I decided I will stop around 655pm for a take away , as car parking was available . Saw the menu and i got excited seeing the dishes from Kerala , Andhra and Karnataka. They too have the regular Chinese tandoor ( i did not come for that).
Since the order is for two people I just stuck to white meat (alleppey fish curry) and red meat (massa kuna pura -mutton curry), both where gravies, ordered Idiyappam and paratha to go with it.
Had the Alleppey fish curry with Idiyappam, the chunks of fish used was Seer fish very fresh and the taste was very good. The flavour of raw mango in the gravy gave it a nice taste.
I decided that I will just taste the Mutton gravy(a teaspoon full) (not the piece) and I realized that this gravy for me will clash with fish gravy and decided that this will go well with dosa . So I decided that I shall have this for breakfast as my cook will be there to dish out Hot Crispy dosas while I sit and eat.
It was the best decision that I did, the gravy was very different, it was not very spicy , had some roasted coconut which was ground and gave a taste of a rich mutton broth curry which just perfect for the dosas. What a perfect way to start your day.
Will be back to try more of the
Kodi vepudu - not spicy as they told. Okish dish but you can look for something else
Peas pulav - well cooked with good amount of peas and nuts. I definitely recommend this.
Wheat parotta - good
Kadai panneer - spicy and taste. Good choice for roti varieties
All the food items have more quantity than anyother place.

This is one good restaurant in Thiruvanmiyur area. They have south indian dishes(from all the four states), which you don't normally get in restaurants. We ordered idiyappam and Karnataka style veg gassi. It was awesome and filling... Ambiance and service is alright. Reasonably priced.

This is a neat restaurant near Valmikinagar. The place boasts of dishes from all over southern India. I have been a regular here and most of the dishes are tasty and value for money. If you are a fish lover please try their mustard fish curry.the quantity they provide would be more than enough for two. please do order their chicken 65 as well, it tastes great :).
After looking up many restaurants on Zomato, we decided on Southern Spices to get our lunch delivered from. My roommate and I were in an experimental mood. So we ordered Uppu Kari (mutton dish of Tamil Nadu) and Kori Gassi (chicken dish of Karnataka). The ratings were good. So we anticipated good food. We were in awe with the food. Those were the best south indian dishes I tasted after Dindigul Thalapakatti. Both the dishes were delicious. I personally loved the Uppu Kari although I am not a big fan of mutton. I would definitely like to go there someday, sit and order all the other dishes on the menu. I would also like to specially mention the polite behaviour of the staff.
A good interior with excellent staff.. The taste is good.. The quantity they give is more.. The cost is reasonable... Located in thiruvanmiyur where rarely good hotels are. My kids love this place.

Southern spice as the name sounds has some spicy dishes on the menu...try the juicy masaledar tandoori chicken, the mangalorean chicken bezula was awesome... We tried out kal dosa with chicken chettinad gravy and it was good too ,don't miss out the spicy chicken soup southern style which is also awesome...spicy food for spice lovers

Had been there for few times.. mostly I prefer take away as the restaurant is near to my home. Lets start with the looks od the restaurant, the door of the restaurant looks like a door from villages but after you enter you will find a warm fine dining area, I give it a 4 for the looks. The ambience was good and respectful. The service is excellent. Now the main part the food, I'm a biriyani lover so I prefer biriyani's for my lunch and even for my dinner, the biriyani was spicy as I like it to be spicy and the portion was also appreciating but I have to say that it is the costliest biriyani I have ever had. 180 rupees per plate, I have to say that I have eaten biriyani which costs 50 per plate which tastes better than that of the restaurant. I love sea food, so I had the semmeen porichathu and I loved it, the cost is about 280 and the portion gives you a heart attack. The tawa fish fry, I could say that worst fish I have ever tasted, the portion was very very very small. The cost is the main back drop to the restaurant, being situated in the busy streets of thiruvanmiyur the food and the cost must be pulling the local customer to it buy not chasing them away, that's the main reason why I gave a poor rating to a good restaurant.
If you want to try a good and tasty food in a local place without having any budget come eat here.

Thiruvanmiyur is generally a dump, as far as eating places are concerned. Southern Spices is one of the few shining exceptions. Started off as a place serving cuisines from the four southern states, it has expanded its menu to serve "north indian" and "chinese", and does all of it with terrific flair. The seafood is fresh! (chemmeen porichathu, yeral thokku and nellore fish curry being standouts), the biryani is very good, the parottas and dosas are great, even the north Indian food, the butter chicken, chicken tikka, butter naans are very well done. Service is friendly and the ambience is upmarket, even if not exactly tasteful.

I am a connoisseur of South-India food, and have eaten various dishes in homes, hotels, restaurants all over the south, but this place is THE BEST of all. It is far better than the best of luxury five-star fare. The place has beautiful traditional interiors too.
Have been here twice for Dinner and love this place. The staff here is exceptional, i'll go in so far as to say probably the top restaurants i've ever been to for service...
Ambience was super chill, low lighting and relatively quiet. Service was quick and effective, not to mention very welcoming!

The heavy wooden door at the entry makes sure that customer gets impressed even before entering inside. Menu is well planned and limited items of each speciality is the good thing in menu. light and ambiance is fantastic. Items are reasonable and I have tried chicken butter Masala three times here with few other dishes. I have enclosed it because it was par expected. overall rating very good in its range.

An interesting restaurant in uninteresting place. You can never imagine a cozy restaurant in such a crowded place, but they managed to keep it warm and welcoming. As you enter the restaurant, you will find a big teak door which gave me an home like feel.
Their menu is very interesting as you can find all speciality dishes of south India. Everything is quite authentic and priced reasonably. A big thumbs up for their concept and consistency in taste.
My personal favourites are bisbela bath and Nandu thoku :)

The rates are marginally ok, but the food , quantity and quality they serve is too good,

Excellent food. Came here with family and ordered Kaldosai, phulka and naan with vegetable gaasi, pepper chicken and tomato lentil (perfect replacement for Sambar). All these items were very tasty and not too rich as well.

I found this through Zomato when searching for nearby restaurants from my workplace. The variety in the menu from all south states was a good concept and the items were unique too. Decided to go for lunch. Its located in residential area of Tirvanymyur next to temple tank. Odd place to have a multi-cuisine hotel. It took a while for us to locate the place.
I really didn't expect this place to have a nice ambiance but to my surprise, it was good. The entrance door is traditional teak door and the seating arrangement was good with 2,4 6 and 8 seaters spread out to accommodate family and couples evenly. We had a hard time selecting the dishes we want,given the variety they have. I already had a mind set on what to eat but my friend being a non-vegetarian, took a good fifteen mins to select his order. The manger was patient enough and was explaining every question politely.
The order was Takali papu, aloo jeera, steam rice, chicken daniya fry, Egg roast masla, Pulkas and Wheat tawa parotta. Steam rice is not just normal rice but basmati. All items tasted great especially Takali Papu. My friend couldn't stop raving about chicken daniya fry that he called up the manager to said that its awesome. Not just the quality of the food but also the quantity was huge. Each of the items mentioned can be easily shared by two persons.
The rates are a bit on the high end though but given the quantity and quality of the food its justifiable to some extent. But still Rs.135 for Aloo Jeera is not acceptable. The total bill was Rs.841.
Overall we really liked the food and service. The rates could be less and some sign boards from main road would really help identifying the place and attract more crowds.

Great place to have good tasty South Indian food. Inside Taj Coromandal, this is a fine dining restaurant. The ambience is too good. Starting from cutlery to the seating, lighting everything is perfect. I used to frequently visit earlier. It's been quite some time since this visit for a family lunch. The Veg tali was very tasty and quite filling. The Manager made us a cake after noticing that we had come as a family and celebrating. This was a very nice gesture. The coffee and the coffee ice cream was outstanding. Staff are attentive to details and very courteous. Five star all the way.

⭐️Food: we went on weekday lunch and ordered Fish and Meat Thali . We were made comfortable by setting apron. First came the colourful chutneys , chips & crisp & vadagams . We really enjoyed vadagams which were both tasty and has very less oil. I think it’s air fried .
We were then given Tomato pepper soup which did justice to the name. It has both tangy profile and pepper taste. Good soup to clear your food pipe and warm up your stomach
We were then served Thali which has veg curry, veg poriyal/side , chicken curry , fish curry, mutton curry , Idiyappam , parotta , appam , paayasam.
I thoroughly enjoyed fish curry and chicken curry which were so soft like butter and super yummy . They also upped menu and gave us wheat parotta to try and egg appam both were good.
They keep refilling the sides and every refill was worth it
Then came white rice, sambhar , paruppu podi and ghee . You must try their paruppu podi and ghee it’s out of the world. The sambhar is prepped using their in house spices by the chef themselves . We also enjoyed rasam and curd rice
And they gave complimentary elaneer payaasam to us and again it was unlimited . We asked them twice and was served happily . They end it with filter coffee . The server will cool down the filter coffee in style .
And finger bowl was served .
And as it’s a birthday occasion, they gave us complimentary birthday cake which was yummy and gave a special wish.
Overall it’s a fantabulous experience from the moment we stepped in and left. They really made our day and created a core memory .

One of the best star studded South Indian cuisine in Chennai, the spices and other condiments are all hand grated, giving the same taste, three sixty-five days a year. My personal favourite menu items are the Kozhi kurumilaguchaaru, kori ghee roast and the pallipalayam chicken biriyani, an absolute go to dishes with well emulsified spices, perfectly cooked meat and rice. If you love spicy and flavourful food, you will NOT be disappointed with this set of items. My special shoutout to waiter Bala, one of the most genuine and friendly waiters I've come across, despite the restaurant being packed to the brim, he kept his cool and catered to the needs of the guests and was patiently explaining every other menu items on order, head chefs Jeba and Siva and executive chef Sujan, these are the people who ensured both Southern and spice are in prefect quantities in the entire Southern spice experience with consistency.

The number of stars is less for their food and service.
Madhav’s service was unmatched. He suggested the right items as per the taste. He even offered to take pictures and provided complimentary dessert - coconut payasam and kafi ice cream which undoubtedly are the best I ,you or anyone has ever tasted.
Coming to the food,
1. Vanjaram podi varuval- the 2 seer fish fillets were perfectly cooked, soft inside and the spices were a perfect combination. I am a fish lover and this is a paradise.
2. Mutton ishtew- perfect blend of coconut, mutton and curry leaves. Madhav suggested to try it with Appam which was an amazing combination. This was one of my favourites and is a must try
3. Rayalaseema mamsam Biryani - the authentic Andhra style biryani had a hot and spicy flavour. It catered to our spicy taste buds along with raita
4. Southern spice ginger punch - it was a sweet combination of ginger with coconut water and lemon and the ginger taste was dominant.
5. Coconut Payasam- this was served complimentary and must say that we were lucky to have tasted it. It had subtle sweet taste. Best part was it was made of jaggery instead of sugar.
6. Kafi ice cream - subtle sweet coffee ice cream which was home made.
Ambiance- it is definitely beautiful with silver coated spoons and copper glasses. The ceramic South Indian style plates were different.
Overall I’m glad we visited the place during our stay.
Went for dinner with a large (20) person group. The restaurant was amazing. There was a traditional dancer that performed a few times over the course of our meal which also provided entertainment.
Half the group got the fish and meat thali, the other half the veg thali. The food was great overall and it was great getting to experience so many different flavors. Would highly recommend.
The new premium rooms have very comfortable beds and feel high-end. The rest of the resort is still being renovated, but the construction didn't bother us (but that might be because we were only staying one night). The staff were very friendly, and I understand why some call this the "local's hotel" - you can feel the aloha here. I hope they renovate the common areas and build a new giant pool as part of the renovation. The location is amazing: right on Kaanapali beach and near Whaler's

We dined there quite a few times during our stay. We enjoyed the thali meals as well as the a la carte items. Do not order the thali meals if you cannot do justice to the quantity and number of items. The service was really good. Special shout out to Bala. He went out of the way to serve us especially accommodate and suggest food items for both of my kids.
After a long travel and much needed time to relax I came across southern spice , Absolutely stunning decor and welcoming experience and the food is exquisite and tasteful. Highly recommend for dates and casual dinning. Staff , especially Bala and rest of the crew were phenomenal and well versed with the menu. Highly highly recommend.
One of the Best South Indian Fine Dining Restaurant in Chennai. Have been visiting this place for long and the service only gets better. Our usual is their signature thali and they take their own time to serve the full course and make sure you have 2 to 3 hours to complete the thali. There will be no complaints on the food except for the wait time. Their crab is our favourite. There's hardly any bad item in here. Just in case if you can afford the pricing. Go For it.
From the time you enter till you leave the experience is too notch! The wait staff, chef and management are aiming for excellence and me and my two sons were humbled by the service and culinary delights right up to the desert which I thought had no room for but made me find some. If you have the blessings and good fortune to eat here you will be amazed.
