My most favourite place is Thondil ❤️ I would heartfully suggest this place to anyone who asks. Fish and the Tiger prawns have a special place in my heart. The cooking style,the ambience and the service makes this place the best one to dine out.

Ambience is the highlight! All see foods were awesome. Hot and sour chicken soup is a must try.
Thoondil is so far the best restaurant in Chennai for sea food. The ambience was great with outdoor seating under a hip roof and swans roaming around you. Good for a group of friends and the service was quick enough. There are fishes and crabs for display that can be picked and will be prepared fresh. The dishes were all spicy and we loved the flavour. Must try items are crab soup, full fish with BBQ sauce, pepper squid and fish curry with rice. Not a budget one, but worth spending for the good sea-food.

Thoondil is an offbeat place away from the city.
Location: Few kms away from sholinganallur-Ecr road towards Mahabalipuram
Ambience: Fantastic ambience with cool huts around with plenty of trees and fountains which added beauty to the place.
Parking: will have parking issues though as there is no big parking space outside the restaurant but like a normal space like anyother ECR restaurants
Food: the place is famous for sea foods and it has plenty of options for the same
We can choose the sea food option from the freezer and they can weigh and estimate the price for us.
Following are the food we tasted:
1. Tawa fish
We chose a fish koduva fish from the freezer waiter estimated it to be 800rs for a full medium sized fish weighing around 400grams
Taste: OMG the taste was just awesome🤩🤩😍 we loved it. Texture, masala taste and the decor was simply awesome. (Definitely go for it guys)
2. Special meal which had nethili fry, crab gravy, fish curry, paapad rasam, rice, curd costed to 380rs
Which we felt was okayish fish curry and rasam though was tasty (doubtful to order the same next time)
3. Chicken ghee roast
It had Tamilnadu Desi masala blended with ghee (not mangalorian type) but it worked well with us taste was awesome.
4. Mutton Biryani
Biryani's taste was very nice but not the mutton inside it which felt raw. (Will not order this next time may be a different Biryani definitely)
5. Egg fried rice
So Bland and didn't have a enough flavour of the other egg fried rice which I had tasted before. 190rs ( will not try the next time)
Total bill costed around 1960rs for these 5 dishes which was bit higher fur the dishes we ordered. But overall a very good dining experience. 🤩

Starting with the Ambience, The place was pretty good, quiet and peaceful. I went there like 2pm and there were no much crowd. I had the squid masala fry and the prawn butter masala with butter naan and it was delicious. I would highly recommend this place if you wanna taste sea foods.

I wanted to taste live sea food for a long time. I visited this place on a one fine festive day and it was open. I had a delicious experience!
Live full fish chettinadu style - pomfret was my choice and they deep fried a whole pomfret and tossed in a masala sauce. It was very delicious and amazing experience. It tasted so good.
Squid tawa fry, squid was deep roasted in tawa with more masalas. The taste was too good to handle.
Roti and fish curry was a usual experience. Fish curry was not so good. It was upto the level.
Ambience was chilling. Outskirts of city, peaceful and calm ambience and nice place to chill out too.
Overall a best sea food restaurant to try.
Being a sea food lover, Thoondil has always been among my favorites.
The restaurant is known for its ambience and it's flavours of uplifting the sea foods.
Review on the food we tasted:
The mixed veg fried rice was top notch and too heavy for a single person.
Kadamba fry was yum but it's kind of chewy which is tiresome.
Chilli fish is my favorite as we don't get the orthodox fish smell which isn't appetising.
I would always recommend thoondil when you are not worried about spending once in a while and this could be a Treat when you decide you go on a long drive after a tiring day 🙂
Very good place to leisure with friends in the midst of nature. The food gives you the best feeling when you get it tastes good. The meat is really fresh and they are maintaining the place very well.
If you love seafood be sure to try this restaurant. Wise spending on the ambience and the food was really good i liked all the dishes and I would say it is worth for the money you give all the dishes were really good. Nice place to hangout with family and friends. This place is a bit crowded on weekends but you can call and book a table

Came here since was looking for good place for sea food and the review was pretty good. Nice ambience , from the outside it is diffcult to gauge the capacity , parking is a slight problem and in most cases you will have to park in adjacent lane but the security will guide you on parking .
Food wise fish dishes are good , costal fish tikka is very good , crab masala fry is also good, chicken , tangadi kabab is so ..
Chettinad combo is a nice option

Very nice place for see food lover and great ambience. Service was good. We started with crab soup very spicy but tasty and fish finger very fresh to eat tasty, fish fry very tasty, fish biryani is tasty and different taste recommended for sea food lovers.
This place is quite different compared to other restaurants. The ambiance is decent but the smell is horrible in the hut since there are few ducks raised there. The smell is bad. The food taste and the services are very good.
Went there for lunch today.. went exactly @ 1 pm so there wasn’t too much crowd got my table early... food was great and masala items was great.. order chilli lobster And chettinad crab (live crab) it was fantastic.. prawn briyani was okay.. Tawa fish was great.. overall rating I would give 4 out of 5 because too too many house flies. Every time we need to wave hand it was distrubing. Try Nadu Rasam it was great and spicy

Nice dinner in the ECR. We went late around 10 pm. It was good.
You select from live fishes they have in tanks for your table. Taste is very good. Since it is near sea, the atmosphere is oceany. Moist and dull. This is a open air restaurant with just the roof. A good place to have team dinners.
The crab rasam was spicy and perfect. Couldn't have have asked for a better cold reliever. Butter garlic prawn however, stole the show 😍 the tiger prawns were cooked to perfection and were juicy too!

ECR and Seafood ❤ Happened to visit there 3weeks ago during my ECR visit. Loved the natural decorations and ambience. It was my fantasy to see the live cooking of my choice of fish prawns and for lobsters. I full fill my desire.
Loved the calamari, prawns and the lobster.

Went here with family for a Lunch to celebrate the anniversary of my parents. Food was amazing. Every single thing we ordered tasted good and was good quantity wise too. They even arranged a cake for us from outside!

It was peaceful and the service was good.

The ambience was amazing and their non veg combo was tasting yummy 😍 I didn’t like their schezwan veg fried rice.. it’s better not to try veg and briyani was ok not up to the mark .. but a must try place for sea food . Firsty we didnt wait for long in getting the tables and the order was quick.We ordered Pomfret fish fry🐟 ,squid tawa fry ,crab roast ,Hot pot rice and sizzling brownie.Every dish is cooked well and it is delicious on the scale of 9/10 .Only concern is the price and the size of squid & lobsters .The place is so serene and the best time to hangout here is during the night with your family and friends . 👏👌

Greenery, fresh seafood and an ambience that makes you feel like you’re in a rain forest! That’s what goes into your heard the minute you enter the place! You’re allowed to choose your own seafood and the type of preparation!
Cheapest lobsters and other exotic seafood. I recommend order the calamari with chilli garlic and the fish curry that was epic! Feel free to ask the waiters what’s the best dish and type of prep with the seafood you choose!

The first thing that I liked about this place was the ambiance. Very calm and nice.
Thoondil, far away from city life. If you wanna go for a long ride/drive in the ECR then can definitely look out for this place. Either lunch or dinner. Or may be for evening snacks time. Full outdoor seating arrangement with small herbs and shrubs covering the area with ample potted plants, which in other way keeps the place warm and cool. Though they have fans with every table setup. One more interesting part was the Swans. Handful of Swans roaming around and will catch your attention. Kids will enjoy this for sure.
The drawback which is quite common for this ambiance is mosquitoes. Too many!! Though under every table they kept mosquito coils but I would suggest them to keep a pest control services in that restaurant. It will work well.
Anyway let's come back to the food part. We had lots and we enjoyed the food.
▪️Hot and sour chicken soup. Served hot. But it was too spicy.
▪️ Chicken Lollipop. Delicious. Went well with the tomato sauce.
▪️ Chilli babycorn. Capsicum and babycorn were tossed well with spices. Cooked well.
▪️Veg Schezwan fried rice. Average tasted. Though the quantity was good enough.
▪️ Chilli fish. It was too delicious. Soft and small pieces of fish. Semi gravy and spicy.
▪️ Paneer tikka masala. The gravy tasted delicious. heavy and spicy gravy with cream on top. Soft and fresh paneer cubes.
▪️Butter naan. 👍🏻
▪️ Chicken Punjabi. A flop one. The only dish we all disliked. Tasteless. Waste of money.
And to digest all we had soft drinks.
With the taxes and all our bill was ₹1727 which I guess is quite reasonable.
Overall we enjoyed the food alongwith the place. Even service was quick.
So a good place to give a try either with family or friends. At the end #happy_my_tummy 😬

A nature themed restaurant with it's geese in the front with a mini-pond and plenty of potted plants in between the tables. We ordered chettinad flavored fish, masala squid fry , chicken fried rice and lime soda. The food was good, probably my go-to place in Chennai for fresh catch-of-the-day. The service was good and the price was decent too. The only problem was that there was too many mosquitoes there.

THOONDIL with a caption of Hook and Cook is a complete Sea Food restaurant at Akkarai, ECR. Huge ambience with outdoor seatings but fully surrounded with trees, bamboo sticks, so the intense of the heat doesn't come inside.
There is a live Sea Food Counter which has so many varieties in Fish, Crab, Prawn, Lobsters and so on. One has to pick up, tell how the dish has to be made, they will do the same. So we picked MOLE CRAB (Elli Poochi in Tamil or small crabs) which was chilli fried and served, went on to become the best dish on that day. For LOBSTERS they took all the flesh inside, made easy to eat, tasted really good again. NANDU RASAM had all the peppers and masala's loaded.
For the main course, PRAWN BIRIYANI tasted better than MUTTON. CHETTINAD COMBO at 375 ₹ had a superb Fish Curry and Rice, the quantity is bit high for a single person. They also do Chinese, Tandoori style dishes on Chicken, Mutton but the best way is to go for South Indian style preparation on Sea Foods and that's what THOONDIL is named for.

Nice ambience with huts, good service and food price with moderate range. Anyone can offer for quality and taste. Nice place for bot couple and family. I find some mosquitos though the place is tidy and clean.

The place is situated on ECR. It is very easy to locate the place.
We went there for a Sunday lunch and the place was a bit crowded. Had to wait for some time and we used the opportunity to explore the place. It was quite a big place filled with huts and plants. To do justice to the name you can also see a boat set up in the entrance which we used well to take few pictures.
We ordered seafood and chicken and it took some while to reach our table due to the crowd maybe. But once it reached your table, it was over in a couple of minutes. The food was Soo yummy that we couldn't resist. The taste of the food was very good and the price was highly reasonable.

A good continental restaurant with a part of Desi flavours dishes also. Normally it takes 20 minutes wait and 20 wait for getting ordered dishes. It's worth to have a dinner here. Good professional staff.

Have been here thrice . I’m actually from Purasaiwalkam, just travelled 25km to have the tender coconut mousse 🤌🏻❤️. Definitely a must try , all three times I tried only the mousse & its completely worth it . Also tried cheese cake last time was also good . Ambience of the place it amazing. One gram worthy place .
Visited it for the first time. The food is good and reasonably priced! The caramel custard was outstanding and the watermelon salad really delicious. The veg pie we tried was good too. A good dining experience!

Beef was so juicy, and I feel the quality of meat is the same level as the bangalore famous restaurant that I have visited. Soup is also very good and creamy.
Staff service was good. The restaurant was lively because it was crowded. (A little bit noisy for me...) but by considering food quality and the staff service, I can recommend you to visit.
