You can’t order blindly here and expect the best meal of your life. But if you order correctly- Avocado toast, tacos - you might get it correct. If you want to subject your stomach to fusion food, this place is a perfectly decent choice.
Amazing food in a cozy relaxed setting. Since it was my first time trying out Mexican Cuisine, I went with Chef’s recommendations and loved every dish that was served to me - the cheese samosas and churros, the burritos and tostadas (prawn thatte ones especially), their avocado dishes including the yummy avocado shake - all were uniquely tasty. I since went there couple more times to try out more from their menu and also had ordered via Zomato and the quality was consistently good all through. Oh yes I almost forgot - their Watermelon Basil Paloma is impeccable!
A one liner for this restaurant : Do not judge it from outside. From the outside it will look like some way expensive over the top Indo-Mexican eatery, due to it being empty for most of the time. However do go inside.
Went along with my friends for dinner. Ordered some vegan salad, mushroom soft shell tacos, chicken 65 burrito, butter chicken burrito and mushroom burrito. Overall quite good taste of all the dishes but my personal favorite was the mushroom soft shell taco and the chicken 65 burrito. The food quantity was good, enough to fill up with one burrito.
However a few shortcomings, which I felt was a little cold shoulder from the staff. It’s not that he didn’t help or answer to our query or anything. But one of my friend had got some broken plastic bit in his burrito. We brought it to the notice of the staff. None of us are expecting any refund or free stuff or anything. We were quite ok to let it pass since mistakes do happen. What we were expecting was an apology, but not even that. That did feel out place.
But still definitely would recommend people to go and try for the food. Go for the dishes which you feel comfortable with and surely you will be satisfied.
A quaint place, tucked away in the heart of the city . The ambience, the place settings....all are so very tastefully done. The menu is simple with various options. We loved all the food. The watermelon drink was delicious! The tacos, the guacamole, the dessert....everything was fresh and value for money!!!!
One of the go to places for Mexican food in Chennai. The ambience is relaxed. The place is spacious and has ample seating. Coming to the food, the pick of the lot were the Jalapeno Cheese samosa and the mushroom Burrito bowl. The Cranberry orange drink was delightful too. The service was a bit slow but I guess we can attribute it to teething issues. Looking forward to visiting again in the coming days 😃
It's like a small house turned into a cafe. The menu here is not that costly compared to other eateries. This eatery offers a fusion of Indian and Mexican food. I ordered a chicken burrito bowl, Chips and dips, Caramelized banana chimichangas and a Watermelon basil Paloma. The bill came around 800 - 900. It's peaceful to visit this place if you're a loner who loves to read. They have leave-one-take-one policy, where you can bring books of yours and leave it here in place of the book you take. You have to scan the QR code to order here. Speaking of the interior, it's Mexican themed with paintings of figures which reminds of Mexico. Another high side of this place is that they have vegan options and gluten-free options to choose from. The waiter here was so patient and kind in explaining about the menu and giving recommendations. The food didn't suit my taste buds that much. For those who want to try Mexican food which is not heavy in the pocket, you can definitely give it a go.
Ambiance and service are top notch!!! That was a single line complement, but it is one of the highest orders :)
It is a restaurant more in the premium price range when looked at from the cost vs quantity perspective.
We were warmly welcomed and we were introduced to the outlet’s concept of Indo-Mexican fusion by a courteous gentleman who also offered us some suggestions. One again- top notch service.
We had an authentic pani poori connoisseur with us and was a bit hesitant to order the pani pooris here, but the ‘fusion’ was well received by her :)
The guacamole and nachos were tasty, and the small portion sizes started slowly dawning upon us. The veg tiffin which had an assortment was a good one to try and taste some different items. The cheesy jalapeño samosas were worth a mention for sure!
Among the ice teas and juices, the watermelon paloma also deserves a special mention. Smooth watermelon juice which apparently had strawberry and chia seeds blended in it. It was the best of the 4 drinks we’d ordered.
Overall, for about 1.3k for the 4 of us on half tummies, it was a nice time spent here trying out what Mex it up had to offer and experiencing their warm service. Price the dishes any lower and I’d probably make it my go-to-place if I need to catch up with friends over some interesting light snacks.
Wholesome Mexican meal at reasonable price. I’m not sure if this is an extremely authentic Mexican cuisine but definitely works well for Indian palate. Everything we had was extremely good. The meat based options aren’t much but it’s okay as there are plenty of dishes to try.
📍Mex It Up, Nungambakkam
This place serves Indo-Mexican fusion food and we'd love to suggest this place to you.
This has a very well maintained ambience and has cute paintings inside. They have private rooms as well. The detailing that they have done right from the furniture is just amazing! Very good quantity at a good price, this place is a must try. Here's what we had:
🔸Mushroom and Tofu Pani Puri Tacos- Rs.170
This is such a delightful invention. Was such a unique dish to try. Would definitely recommend this🤌🏽
🔸 Mexican Cheese Fries- Rs.150
Really good quantity of fries with cheese dip. Perfectly fried👌🏽
🔸Chilli Garlic Potato Burrito- Rs.250
This was so filling. Sufficiently stuffed with Chilli Garlic Potatoes and Mexican Rice, this was highly impressive.
🔸Caramelized Banana Chimnichanga- Rs.180
This was fried tortilla stuffed with banana and a flavour of cinnamon. This was served with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice-cream. The combination of flavours worked really well.
🔸Peach and Passion Fruit Iced Tea- Rs.70
One of the classic flavours of ice tea🤌🏽 Was a good finish to the meal.
.
Do check this place out and let us know how you liked it. Would 10/10 recommend this place😁
I stumbled across Mex it Up, an indomexican fusion restaurant, on Instagram and I was immediately intrigued by the way they had shared the setting up of the restaurant itself. Every step of the way I felt like I was a part of the creation. So I rushed over to check it out and I was extremely happy that I did. Firstly, wonderful service. The food itself was presented beautifully. The menu was so unique and we would want to try every dish. The portion sizes were good and they tasted amazing. The interiors transported me to Mexico. Aptly priced for the quality and quantity. The jalapeno and cheese samosa, prawn Pani puri and chicken burrito were all extremely Delish! The cranberry and lemongrass drinks also tasted refreshing. I'm already recommending this place to all my friends and I will be visiting them myself again very soon. Thank you Mex it up team for being the highlight of my day! ♥️
This is my second trip here. Wasn't successful the first time coz they operated out of a residential area which i missed locating... Reason I tried the second time is because of the reviews on the restaurant and they were not wrong.
I went on a Sunday evening. Ambience is good, Welcome was good. We tried all the main items in the menu. I especially liked their Guecomole which brought back my memories with US Mexican restaurant experience. It's that good. Their Nachos, salsa, Quesidilla, Beans are very good as well. It's just that they didn't use authentic Mexican rice or the preparations for any of their Bowl item. Except for this everything else we tested came pretty close to (80-90%) the authentic taste that one would have tasted in USA.
I'm giving 4 star only for the long wait (took more than one hour for our orders to arrive and that too in batches). Heard that their machinery went down.
Would visit again for their authentic Mexican cuisine compared to the other Indianized Mexican restaurants in the city(and i tried many)
The place is very calm and the vibes are great. The menu shows different types of Mexican items and they’re different than other Mexican restaurents. I went with my friends during evening and spend lots of time. Food we tried only less amount because we already went to another place before visiting mex it up and then came here but we ordered prawn pani puri taco. They are great and also we tried cranberry juice and watermelon juice they’re also so good and refreshing. And we even thought of visiting this place again
A nice small place for Mexican food.
Has car parking as well.
We went there for dinner, The food was great. The portions were slightly less.
Overall a great experience.
I ordered the Mushroom and tofu pani poori tacos, Chicken tacos and an Lemon iced tea. Amazing vibe and ambience and the food is totally worth the cost. The Pani poori is THE BEST i have had in my life. Will come back often!!
It was unexpectedly great. At first I was sceptical about trying new dishes, but we went ahead and ordered the strangest thing we could find on the menu. The taste was great! It was my first time trying Mexican cuisine. They have vega, vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The ambience was great, with good music, a polite and friendly waitress, good music, overall one should definitely try out this place.

Love the food by Chef Kavya!
Cute place to have a good meal.
The only issue I have is the air-conditioning/ odour of the place which I'm sure can be fixed.
Otherwise it's a place I'll keep going back to.
(Already have, thrice!)
One of the few if not the only Mexican (Indo-Mex) restaurant in Chennai, out of passion by young entrepreneurs...
The food is fresh, flavorful, and an eclectic mex (pun intended) at Mex-it-Up. There are some authentic Mexican dishes and a few fusion with Indian foods like the Pani Poori Tacos.
The founder has international experiences which she has decided to put to good use here in Chennai.
The place is clean and inviting. Team friendly and helpful. Parking will be tight. Get there early. Must try 💯
The quaint very cute Mexican Cafe in town. Chimichangas, pani puri tacos were mind blowing. Definitely worth a try.
Never tried Mexican food before but to be honest the food is really amazing especially the jalapneno cheese samosa was top class and aloo burrito was kind off ok over all the taste was amazing. Definitely I would recommend this place to my friends and family
