We ordered Sikkimese thali and it was amazing tbh! We heard each name for the first time and everything has a unique taste. The price was reasonable. The interiors were elegant. There's seating near the window from where you can have a view of the streets. The staff explained each item of the thali very patiently. Overall nice experience.
P.S. I may have mentioned something wrong in the picture, correct me if you notice.
We loved Nimtho and recommend it as the best place to eat if you are in search of local authentic cuisine. The options are mouthwatering n the dishes themselves are extremely delicious. The ambience and staff are very pleasant too. Just wish they could match the washroom hygiene to the rest of the standard that they maintain.
Food was tasty the ambiance was okay, overall everything went well so a big 5 star from my side.i suggest this place for dinner with family.
Ambience is awsm, foods are also good with various options to have Nepali, sikkimise, tibbetian dishes. But u habe 2 choose properly. We had Buff Suketu , Thakali thali & Choilo, Buff Suketu was not good, hard to chew. Other than that everything was good.
Authentic Food! Delicious. Nice Ambience!
Great place, great ambience, great food. Must visit if you are willing to try authentic Sikimese, Nepali or Tibetan food.
Excellent service
The food is absolutely amazing!!! The service is great and fast! Waiters are extremely sweet! Which made the whole experience wholesome! Authentic cuisine! The only place I got to try simple authentic local food in Sikkim. Highly recommend.
Mouthwatering food, fantastic ambience and very polite and helpful staff. The menu is self explanatory so as to what each dishes are. Always a great experience at Nimtho.
A fancy nice authentic Nepalese restaurant with a great ambience and service. If you are not a fan of Nepalese cusine you wont have much to choose. The choila dish is the star and a must try.
An absolutely amazing experience! Such well portioned, delicious and authentic food. We had the local alcohol Tongba which is a must try for any beer enthusiast. Jhol Momos, momos in soup, were such a change from the usual momos. The sikkimese and thakali thali, in both non vegetarian and vegetarian options was a great choice! This place has great vibes and the servers are very knowledgeable and friendly. A must visit for whoever visits Gangtok!
Been here on a trip to gangtok to try the local cuisine. Tried their special thakali thali, shaphaley, jhol momo and sevai. The food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended for a taste of the local cuisine. Located at mg marg.
Must try Sikkimese Thaali, which is really delicious and end with Sevai (sweet vermicelli pudding)
Ambience is truly traditional and staff is really courteous.
Decent place.. finedine place. Good crowd, quite and quaint, good service. Food was good, the staff could do better, with knowing thier dishes... Especially as gangtok has lot of tourist who come there to taste some thing new .
Absolutely loved the Pork Thali here at Nimtho! The accompaniments were as good as the pork in itself. Even tried Pork trotters for the first time, which were a little fattier than expected, but still yum!
When I entered the restaurant, I loved the ambiance,; the staff and the service was great. The place is so peaceful and it has this ethic vibe. We had buff sukuti, sikkimese thali, thakali thali and chicken karachi; we totally fell in love with buff sukuti, it was amazing.
I’m not big on Asian food, but Nimtho converted me. A friend and I ended up there after a long day sightseeing - we didn’t stop for lunch because most places in Gangtok shut down arnd 4-5 pm and we wanted to visit every place we could before we stopped to eat.
We found Nimtho while walking down M G Road, the only place in the city that stays buzzing after dark. We wanted something to warm us up and that was also a local specialty and Nimtho did not disappoint - in fact what we had far exceeded our expectations.
Since it was early evening (around 6), we wanted something light, so we cld have a late dinner back at our hotel that night. That’s why all we ordered was the jhol momo and I can honestly say I’ve never had better momos in my life! Their jhol momo is momos in a spicy, chunky tomato broth that tastes amazing. It was a bowl of deliciousness and warmth and comfort and it was just what we needed. The portion was huge too - one dish included 8 huge and delicious momos, so we just ordered one and each got 4.
The momos were perfect and so was the service. The person who attended to our table was really sweet and softspoken and he answered all our questions before we ordered. He was quick to bring us our water and our food (we were starving).
The decor is beautiful too - we were seated on the third floor next to the window and it was amazing. They have heavy wooden furniture that looks very regal and antiquey. And beautiful paintings hang on the walls. The copper dishes they use look beautiful too and add to the charm of the place.
Unfortunately, we had to leave Gangtok for Bagdogra airport the next day around noon or we would have been back at Nimtho to try more. I’m sure the other dishes on their menu are amazing too. Next time I’m at Gangtok, I plan to visit again. We visited a lot of places around the North East on this trip and this was our favorite, most authentic, delicious, simple, flavorful meal!

On a trip to gangtok i was looking forward to some traditional food.
And nimtho did not disappoint me.. Every food ws delicious, ambiance was perfect
We had Pork Chili, tingmo, thakali thali and jhol momo
Amazingly good food...authentic Sikkimese and Nepali cuisine served with a lot of warmth in the cold climes of Gangtok.
Must try the Thakali Thali and Sikkimese thali. The Sikkimese pork curry and Nepali chicken curry are to die for. The variety of local pickles and the yak cheese (chhurpi) dishes are really un-missable.
Tasty food, great service, wonderful ambience. We had a fantastic time with family. Chef's specials were what we went for. I highly recommend this place.
Want to try shaphalay and gundruk jhol? Visit Nimtho. If you want to try local cuisine in Sikkim, this is the place for you. Such a wonderful place with earthy ambience and courteous staff. They don’t only have local food but also local alcohol. Perfect place to soothe your taste buds. Presentation of the food is cherry on the cake. Visit to this restaurant simply made our evening.
Two storeyed place but curiously if you change your table after ordering your food ( which is what we did) the staff says service may be delayed. Didn’t quite understand the reluctance but having said that our food was not unduly delayed or anything. The Sikkimese chicken thali was just okay. The Thakkali vegetarian thali was better. Portions were alright but items included in the plate seemed reluctant additions. A tad disappointing experience and that was our last night in Gangtok and we had thought we were saving the best for the last.
Nimtho is centrally located in M.G. Road !
They serve Sikkimese and Nepalese Cuisine.
They have great variety of food.
We had -
Piro Aloo
Sikkimese Thaali
Tigmo
Tigmo could be softer... Sikkemse Thaali has good variety od basic veggies. Piro Aloo is a great option to try something new in potatoes
Food was amazing. The chef Vishnuprasad Bhandari was very nice and staff was was extremely polite. Gives a very local feeling inspite of being a big restaurant. Would highly recommend this place.
Although location might be drawing the price higher, but whatever tasty thali the resturant will provide or not, the customer should expect to fill their stomach with the dish. Taste wise perfect.
Interior decoration was a plus, you will certianly feel a soothing, vintage vibe from the place.
We ordered Sikkimese thali with pork trotters, which was good on the taste scale but not on the quantity. Also ordered Buff Sutuki (dried buffalo meat garnished with veggies), which was new to me!!
Overall, Nice 👍
Though the quantity should be higher for the thali. Sorry for the quality of the picture provided.
Nimtho is located in MG Marg , opposite to Gini and Jony stores and located in the first floor of the building
Ambiance is very attractive , they have made the decor so we'll starting from their seating arrangements to their lighting's . The wall and the show pieces and the art work are awesome. It will give you a feel that you are in a sophisticated villaged
We were not much hungry and hence ordered two starters. While walking through MG Marg , by the looks of this restaurant , we entered this place
Food ordered - Buff Sukuti and Charcoal grilled Chicken
Taste wise it was wonderful but a bit hard as Sukutis are meant to be like that and the taste of the charcoal grolled chicken was also very good.
But quantity wise it was too less for the price.
The quantity must improve
A hearty meal in the freezing cold actually warms ur soul..the gyanthuk and jhol momo tell a story of their own...broth is so yummy...the lulling melody of nepali music in the background makes for a great ambience...decor is to taste ..had a wonderful experience..
NIMTHO
The last night in gangtok...heavy rain not giving a moment of rest to the tin-shed...hungry bellies waiting for an opportunity to brave the downpour. We started our walk the moment we realized it won't stop and passed some curious and also some disapproving eyes of the locals who had taken shelter inside local shops. 45 mins of uphill walk in rain can really work up the appetite! So...M.G MARG...few umbrella-sheltered heads still waltzing by and our search for a viable dining house began. We landed on NIMTHO...a place that is shrouded in the illusion of upscale ambiance and with full potential of charging big bucks but since it serves local cuisine, the pocket pinch was surprisingly in budget.
In frame : What we ordered and the place...
1. Bakthuk - Gnochhi styled pasta made without the quintessential potatoes, and served in thukpa style...i.e with broth, meat and veggies! Slightly tangy in taste which was too recognizable for the other dishes were of completely different taste profile. One bowl is enough for a moderately hungry belly.
2. Tingmo with Home-styled Chicken Curry - Two fluffy steamed buns worth Rs. 50 and a humble & spicy chicken curry as its side, this dish was just what we needed in that weather. It was wholesome and the curry was a bit of homely touch we needed after constant exploration of different cuisines in the hills!
3. The decor!
This is a place one must visit when exploring the eateries of M.G Marg, Gangtok! Moderately cheap, calm ambiance and exceptional service...to sum it up!
I dined here on 25th March 2023.
Positive -
1. Very good ambience. Designed in traditional village style with clay models of stoves etc.
2. Value for money.
3. Delicious and Authentic Thakali, Nepali, Sikkimese, Tibetan dishes.
4. Veg, Mushroom, Chicken, Pork, Buff, Mutton etc allll options available.
5. The menu was designed well, to contain all varieties in readable and easy-to-choose and quick-decision-making format.
6. We had Thali. It had 10 items per thali to eat. Toooo good.
7. Very humble and courteous staff. They allowed us to overstay as we couldn't finish our thali by closing time.
8. Instead of wasting the too-spicy-to-eat pizza from earlier Local Cafe, we gave it to staff at Nimtho. They obliged to ensured donate it to needy.
Negative - Quite crowded with families. Perhaps this is a good thing for the restaurant.
An outlet selling local cuisine with an amazing ambience coupled with great food.
We loved the ambience & the manner in which the artefacts have been displayed.
Tried Bhuteko Mutton (330) for starters, which was awesome. It is essentially fried mutton. Then, we tried the Thakali Mutton thali (390) & the Sikkimese Pork Thali (390) which were great. The pork & the mutton dishes were well done.
We also tried the Tongba (400), which is a local fermented millet drink served in a bamboo container. It was different. Can be recharged at least three times, as only hot water needs to be added to the container to get it going again!! Therefore, can serve at least three adults.
The service was okay. The place was not crowded on a weekday.
A good & must try joint, if you wish to try the local & associated cuisines.
Amazing food and great ambience.
The portion was sufficient accordinng to the price.
Local Thalis are a must try here.
However the service could have been faster but overall an amazing experience
The place has very good interior and vibe. The good seemed authentic though the service is slow, you need extra time to dine here. Good was excellent and presentation was equally good. Drink options were unique and up to Mark. Overall nice experience, and recommended.
We had a decent experience having food here. They serve authentic Nepali & Sikkimese thali. The staff were very courteous & the interior was beautiful & well maintained. The dishes tasted good but not that great! I had Nepali thalis a few times and this did not taste at par. Nonetheless, food was decent if not very delicious. We also ordered fried rice which was very bland and not tasty at all. So I’d recommend sticking to the thalis.
Nice place on M G Road for those craving for authentic thakali thali. everything tasty and momo is also perfect. Though I felt little stinky dishes, may be they mopped with wet cloth which is not dried before. If you want to have something light and less spicy and less oily then thakali thali is best.
It was quite a good experience
We had ordered Tongwa and it tastes good.
We ordered Tingmo, makkai ko bhaat ,Choila , Thakali Thali… it was really good. It’s smell and presentation was very tempting. They serve you with the local dishes of Copper/brass/Kansa.
Chefs and staffs are quite humble and gentle. Ambience is wow. They have worked in so much of detailed and presented the real glance of Sikkim inside such a small place. The restaurant Walls and lighting is done so much of creativity. Yes prices are on higher end for locals but I won’t mind paying a good amount for the ambience , food , service.
Must visit place if you are in Sikkim.

The ambience of this restaurant is calm and serene. No doubt the staff are very active, polite and hospitable.
Regarding the food, I ordered chilli pork, pork
thakali thali and tongba. I must say, the chili pork was yummy. The meat was tender and juicy. Especially regarding the Thakali thali, all the items fulfill the requirements of our taste buds. So definitely try it. And if you haven't tried Tongba before, then give it a shot!
P.S. I was so hungry and excited at the same
time, so I just forgot to click pictures of the
Thakali thali!! 😝
Worth all the hype! Loved the Jhol Momos and Thukpa. Also try the Nepali thali and Sikkim thali. Had an interesting experience with the local alcohol Tongba.
If you have come to Sikkim or Gangtok to find out authentic and traditional culture of this area, this hotel is pwrfect for it.
Interior decoration depicting all traditional Sikkimise culture and the food dishes showing nepalese, Sikkimise village taste makes this restaurant unique.
They have various authentic Thali , an original snack dish and various salans (pickles) are just lovable.
Of course if you search for a tsate from your area, this place cannot satisfy it .
The rates are on expensive side, but to experience the authenticity you will surely love it.
