Ever been to an authentic Mexican restaurant anywhere in the world where the food is so finger licking good you keep craving for more? Dos Burros in DLF Cyber City, Gurgaon, is one place you cannot afford to miss if you have a strong palate for Mexican food.
Yours truly was there yesterday to dine with a friend, and I was thoroughly impressed with the authenticity of food and beverages served on my table, prompt service, courteous and knowledgeable staff, and a near-perfect decor.
In this blog post, I'll share my findings about what I liked and what I didn't.
But first things first! Dos Burros is not just a Mexican restaurant or cafe per se. Besides Mexican, you can also enjoy scrumptious Lebanese and Thai cuisines here.
Open every day from 12 noon to 1 am, it enjoys the rare distinction of being the only Mexican property in the Cyber Hub area.
Brainchild of restaurateurs Amit Arora and Ankur Mahajan, Dos Burros was opened to the sassy Delhi-NCR populace on January 30, 2015. More than a year of successful operations - and still showing no signs of slowing down - Dos Burros is the perfect place to eat out with your loved ones.
Wish to know the secret sauce behind its mega success? Well, I have the entire scoop you need.
Food and Beverages
The F&B department is under the capable hands of Executive Chef Sanjay Yadav, who brings to the table more than 18 years of experience with brands like Ambassador Skychef, Hotel Mela Plaza, Rodeo, Club Mojo, Epicurean Hospitality Services, Harems (inside Garden of Five Senses), and Zerzura. He is ably assisted by a staff of 12 members, including servers, bartenders, and interns.
Chef Sanjay was the second runners-up (2011) on the super hit TV show on food - India Ka Super Chef - aired on Food Food Channel. His culinary skills are still in vogue even after five years of being declared a winner. Every Mexican food item in his kitchen - be it Tortilla, Nacho, or Pita Bread - is prepared in-house. What's more the menu is revised every year to incorporate learning from regulars. Even the most expensive seafood like Lobsters or Salmons is prepared under the supervision of Chef Sanjay.
So what is in store? If you ask me, at Dos Burros, the clear winner is their 'grilled food from kitchen'. They also specialize in fusion food and molecular cuisine.
What surprised me was that they serve the largest variety of tequilas in Delhi-NCR. And not just shots alone! No other restaurant in the National Capital Region sells such an exciting assortment of Mexican cocktails and mocktails made from tequila.
Don’t forget to taste the Flaming Lamborghini, a specialty cocktail at Dos Burros, made of Irish Cream (Bailey's), Kahlua, Tia Maria, Sambuca, and Bols Blue Curacao.
That's not all!
In the past one year, they have sold over 7000 margaritas, which speak volume of the brand's popularity. Kudos to the mixologist as well!
There are two managers on the floor - Bhupinder and Sunil - to manage customer expectations. In case you still need further assistance, feel free to reach out to Anand Prakash (or Andy as he is popularly called), who is the corporate general manager at Dos Burros. Andy has 15 years of experience in the hotel industry, having worked for renowned brands like the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi.
I quite liked the Open Kitchen concept at Dos Burros, which allows customers to see their favorite dishes being cooked right in front of their eyes.
Music
A visit to Dos Burros is not just about food alone; DJ Prashant Roy will liven up your evening by playing a classic mix of retro and Bollywood music, thus rendering the complete experience of fine-dining.
Andy encourages new and growing bands - mostly from YouTube - to come and perform at the outlet six days a week. If you're in the mood of some Sufi or fusion music, head straight to Dos Burros post 7 pm to get mesmerized.
Seating
There is plenty to do inside the premises; with a cover area of more than 3000 square feet, this property can host 120 guests in all at any given point in time - outside seating is also available for 70 guests, making it a hit for sundowners.
Decor
The decor is visually stunning with Talavera tiles and Mexican Sombreros adorning the four walls of the restaurant. I absolutely adored the beautiful rustic cane chairs and tin mirrors alongside traditionally woven Zapotec rugs.
