One of my friends who is a South Indian food lover took me to this place. On looking at the menu I found a category for non-veg dosa which sounded different and tempting. We ordered Egg and cheese dosa, chicken dosa and masala buttermilk and I would say these are must try if you are near building 5. The buttermilk re-activates you in between the work hours. Ambience is okay as it is in the common cafeteria of Building 5 .
I would recommend to order the quantity wisely as the dosa's I ordered were really heavy.
Chennai Amma as the name says delivers the tastes of South Indian Food, they have wide variety in South Indian dishes have tried their paneer dosa, curd rice and paper masala dosa. One can always prefer for if want to go for South Indian food.
The non - veg meals were excellent,it reminded me of the food I've been missing back home. Loved this place and will definitely order again.
The food wasn't that great. But i liked the service promptness.
Very good food and quick service.. I ordered the mini tiffin and everything was worth eating and every rupee spent.. Love there Idlis as well
Best South Indian I have ever had is from Chennai Amma
Sambhar shows how much they are expert in this cuisine not everyone can make a perfect sambhar
If it’s South Indian then it’s Chennai Amma
Fantastic.... value for money... absolute pleasure inducing food... ordered the gunpowder masala dosa and butermilk and overindulged. Delivery took only 20 minutes.
Best place for yummy Sambar Lovers!!!
We Enjoyed it 👍🏼😊
You should try Idly and curd rice in this restaurant. Dosa has to be improved 👍🏼
Ordered for my office. Great food. Tried dine in. Good staff. And the consistency of taste is commendable. Highly recommended. Bisibelli bhaat was too good!!
Serving amazing food. Authentic taste. Specially the gun powder dosa. Also the Chach. The service is great too.
restaurant and home Delivery- equally good.
Chennai Amma is best place for South Indian food. .
Chennai amma had ordered masala Dosa and Upma its really awesome in taste. .
All are fresh and hygienic the taste was really good. .
Service is slow and prices are also high. .
I came across Chennai Amma while hunting for a South Indian restaurant that had Onion Rawa Masala Dosa and when I came across their menu, my hunt was over.
The Onion Rawa Masala Dosa was just yum!! The sambar and the chutneys were really well made. Not too spicy and just the right amount of flavor!
The food didn't feel like restaurant food, it actually tasted like, it was homemade! 😍
I enjoyed my meal and now I have found a new favorite place for my Dosa craving days!! 😍
Sometimes you just don't expect too much from a food joint, but chennai Amma scores it here..it actually scores more than what u expected.
Firstly a big plus was there accommodating nature, had specially told them to add extra fried onions in the Upma (which usually they don't since they make Upma every two hours in huge quantity). So this was a big plus.
Secondly, the Upma was just out of the world. It was amazing. From smell to taste to texture to temperature. It was epic. Even the butter milk I ordered tasted like it was from a joint in southern india.
Keep it going chennai Amma. Shall surely order again.
Had twice form here, both being delivered(hoping to visit soon).
First instance was ordered from the office for lunch, had varieties of Dosas, ranging from paper dosa to nasals dosa to the famous egg dosa.
All dosas were just great but the gem of them was egg dosa, very unique and too good to be true.
Both the time restaurant met its deadline for time.
Packing was great and my tummy was happy.
;)
The pics uploaded are from the second instance when I was really craving for egg dosa but was sick(read fever) so my palates were not alive enough to taste but man this dosa still left me smiling and I was thrilled to order from here.
After this experience they got one loyal customer for sure.
I ordered their cheese masala Dosa and topped it with some extra butter. It was super yum and just melted in the mouth. One healthy breakfast.
Rasam was also too good. 😋😋😋 Not to forget the papad.
Nice first time experience from a outlet for a South Indian food lover like me.
My orders was delivered before time & it was still warm No regret after getting the food it was delicious & was nicely packed. The food was hygienic neat & Clean.
Great food, amazing ambience. I went there for having a good time, but the place was amazing. Upma was amazing, although everything there was nice and delicious
Ordered through Swiggy Was impressed with the quality and speed . Gun powered idli and masala dosa what i loved the most ! Will order again soon.
I was visiting cybercity..i was craving for good south indian..i tried chennaiamma..my experience overall was pretty good. I ordered chicken keema dosa and gunpowder idli along with buttermilk. Chicken keema dosa was awesome.they have good variety of non veg dishes.
To be fair !! the food was Good !! GOOD ! May be am a little unfair here by giving them a 3.5 but definitely a repeat !
Its definitely a good shot vs other South Indian restaurants around !
Also , Podi Idli tastes better when in chunks and well tossed !! :-) all the best
Too good. Authentic south indian taste. Made my sunday!!! Ordered a gun powder idli and sambar rice- It was delicious!!! Can't wait to try other stuff here.
Effective quick-fix!
Maid disappeared. Decided to try this place. Although South Indian food cannot be enjoyed in home-delivery, Chennai Amma gave us some tasty dosas and Upma. The Upma definitely stood out the most for me. (I secretely ordered vadas too :D achhe the!)
This place has innovated over the years but still is a good option if you are craving for south indian food. The food court offers an excellent variety of north Indian dishes where chennai amma stands out as probably the only south India outlet.
I have tried almost everything from idlis to dosa, uttapam to vada & even the meal combos. All the items are good & are prepared in hygienic conditions.
My only concern is the exorbitant prices of the food which makes it an expensive eatery. Also it is the first one to put a closed sign in the night. What's the hurry? Subway does more business in the last 30-45 minutes at the food court as it is the only option available for the corporates & it is healthier too. Please extend your timings CA at least serve till 10:45.
The food is absolutely a lovely. One of those places where you come in for a South Indian craving and get it all. Even their home delivery service is excellent. You receive your order faster than you can imagine.
Awesome south indian food .. specially chicken dosa ..number one choice for south indian food in gurgaon...wish they had one in delhi........
Must say lovely food. SAMBHAR was awesome !! Overall taste is Authentic. ..
Tasted as well brand south indian outlet. Pampered by the hospitality. ..
Recommended to everyone.
Pocket pinch is very low.
Last but not least... GREAT
I have been to this restaurant twice in a month. The restaurant is very good, staff is very nice and the quality & taste of the food is excellent.. I would suggest everyone to visit this restaurant at least once and I am sure you will like to visit again and again.
Thanks
Manish
I really enjoyed my food here! Love the fun menu! Highly recommended the gunpowder idli , their sambar and the lovely filter coffee! Will definitely go back!
Chennai Amma serves corporate crowd in building no. 5 with some delicious South Indian food. The sambhar here is heavenly. My recommendation-rawa onion Masala dosa, daal vada, Mini tiffin, dip idli, gunpowder dosa and authentic filter coffee. Fresh lime and butter milk are refreshing. Staff is very courteous. Highly recommended.
Tried the food for the first time. I must say, the spicy garlic karnatic dosa and gunpowder idli tasted quite exquisite! Considering the usual dosa joints I was impressed by the variety of dishes served. Definitely coming back again.
From where do i start with was craving for south indian food went on Zomato and searched for good and yummy dosa.
It was my luck or what i found out CHENNAI AMMA in Cybercity Convention - Rest is history !!!
To be honest i would say that they serve the best dosa in gurgaon i can bet over it. I am actually out of words how to describe it.
Soo i ordere one MEDHU VADA - It was amazing properly cooked, crispy and served hot even when i got delivered at home.
One MYSORE PLAIN DOSA and ONION RAWA MASAL DOSA when i tasted the first bite i was in love with them. They were sooo sooo damn tasty sevred with coconut chutney and spicy chutney and Sambhar.
Everything was soo goooood about it like a perfect meal and a treat to your tastebuds.
I'm again saying they have the best dosa in Twist Gurgaon / Gurugram.
I wish i could eat it all day and night, hats off to you guys and thank you sooo much for making such amazing dosa's.
People out there in gurgaon CHENNAI AMMA is the place to have best south indian food.
Gunpowder dosa is something one should try here ...
Filter coffee.. and I would say all menu items I have tried here .. all are super yum .
Value for money - 4/5 (lil expensive)
Over all 4.5/5
Visited my old office building in cyber city after a couple of years and had a dosa to relive the memories.
Old days evolved today through Carnatic dosa, a new addition to the menu. The meal was delicious and terrific value for money. The food deserves to be in a restaurant and I hope they move ahead in this transition.
This place deseves 5 out 5.
Finger licking south indian food with a twist of north indian style. Specially the chicken dosa is a must have. If you want to eat conventional all types of dosas are going to tempt your taste buds everytime you going to think about them after having them once. My favourite is chicken dosa and bisebelle bhaath. Great service and hospitality too.
Quick Response, in time delivery, good packing quality for delivery, fresh food, Awesomeness test, affordable menu. I recommend test his food
I like it
Orderd Masala dosa, Dhahi vada. Taste was excellent.I was satisfied with both quality and quantity. The perfect south Indian taste. Cost is also not too high.If you wana eat south Indian.. This restaurent is one of the best.
Awesome food!
Elaborate menu, excellent presentation, just the right taste, it all adds up to a pleasant and satiating experience. When you're there, this is surely one joint you wouldn't want to miss. Looking forward to visit again and enjoy authentic South Indian delicacies.
Ordered vada-rasam and gun-powder idli. What made me gush about it is that it tasted like a dish that came straight out of a kitchen in the South, in this case Chennai. The quantity was genenous. Will surely order again.
A home delivered dosa will always become soggy and so did mine. But that was the only fault and that too, mine.
The sambhar was smashing, the red chutney, even better. The white coconut one could've been tastier.
Will go and eat a fresh off the tawa dosa soon.
It's a good place to have south Indian spicy food. Serving person could have been little bit more patient, he seemed to be in hurry to get the order. One more thing is that they have very specific and limited options and pretty much everything is south Indian dish. Overall good experience.
This is located in the food court of my office building, have been there a lot of times during the lunch and dinner time and I must say Chennai Amma offers the best Sambhar around this area.
The Dosa options are pretty good here, Mysore Masala being the best. Thali gives you a real joy of all the South-Indian and sums up the menu, served with Halwa. 👌🏻
Having heard raving reviews about this place, decided to give it a shot. Always had some fascination for South Indian food ever since my culinary school days in Hyderabad.Just called for a Gunpowder Masala Dosa. Order acceptance to delivery was spot on. Super efficient staff i must say.
Now coming to the food. The Chutney with that dal and curry leaves tempering was also excellent. Sambhar was also really nice. The dosa with that generous layer of Podi and ghee was excellent. But but but, it was burnt from one side and had that bittery burnt charred taste to it, ruined it majorly. The dosa masala on one side also acquired that burnt flavour from the dosa. Was too hungry and lazy to return and ask them for a replacement. So left out the burnt part and devoured the rest. Attaching pics for ref. Sorry for the bad quality of pics though.
Will I be ordering again: hell YES. The menu looks good, the place looks promising.
Finally I visited this place.....I got everything to here.
Never be disappointed from quality of food and service,
It was brilliant exp....!!!
Staff was very polite to serving is gr8, full....!!!
All was awesome....!!!
It in my office buidilng and hence tried there onion fry dosa, dip idli, filter coffee, malabar chicken rolls and rasam rice. Other than rice and chicken roll everthing is pretty good.
Beautiful name ..... Chennai Amma.
It's located in DLF pouches area of Gurgaon
Ambience is very nice.
Menu also interesting
I must be go there again.
Guys its a best place in DLF .
Sure I will recommend.
My rating's. 4.5
I am not a South Indian cuisine fan. But after a long time had quality South Indian food and absolutely loved it. Would recommend it to try at least once.
Chennai Amma is one of the best options to eat at for those working in Building 5, and it wins by a significantly large margin.
I have never been a fan of South Indian cuisine, but I love most things on their menu. Be it breakfast (sambhar vada) or lunch (biryani, rava dosa, gunpowder rice, or...
I am regular here.
The sambhar and lemonade are exceptional for a routine office lunch break. The food is much better than few south Indian joints in NCR.
Have been coming to this place whenever I'm relishing for tasty South Indian food. This place is in my office building and therefore very approachable.
It is located in the food court and is generally very busy during the lunch Time.
The gun powder idli is a must have.
Mysore masala dosa is great too.
Garlic uttapam is also tasty.
They give extra sambhar on takeaway but when you have it at their outlet they would give you very less and you have to go ask for it again and again.
Reasonable priced
Also have chicken dosa which I have not tried yet.
My only solace when I come down from office to eat in the food court!
Great food and preparation. I just love their idlis and dosas. Strongly recommended especially when you're working in Building 5 and looking for good food options.
The Feast That's Life
+3.5
Chennai Amma is an outlet in the food court in Building 5 at Cyber City, and it dishes out really tasty South Indian grub. I tried Gunpowder Idli, Gunpowder Plain Dosa and Masala Buttermilk.
The dosa was crisp and the gunpowder paste inside was really tasty. The idlis were soft and spongy and were coated with the same gunpowder paste which made them taste even better. The sambhar and the coconut chutney were fresh and well-made. The buttermilk had a nice tempering of curry leaves and mustard seeds and was very light and refreshing. The food is priced reasonably as well. Overall, this place can definitely be tried!
Filter coffee at Chennai Amma is awesome!
The Service is great! Have been coming in here almost every day to enjoy it with my friends and colleagues.
Food, especially their Bisebille Baath gives a chance to taste real and authentic tamilian flavors.
Keep it up guys!
This outlet is in a food court in building no 5 , cyber city. We keep coming here for our official meetings and I am always tempted to have south Indian here.
The food here is delicious and I especially love their Filter coffee which is awesome.
I have mostly tried Dosas here , my favourite being Rava onion masaala dosa which comes with sambhar , 2 chatnis. I also like the butter milk here which is quite refreshing with all the seasoning.
The food here is value for money and is yummy too :)
Chennai amma is the place to go for a light healthy south Indian meal! Being in the same building , I have been to this place several times and this place has never disappointed me. I have tried all their items be it Uthapams, dosas, idlis, buttermilk, lemonade, coffee. Everything is very good and the staff is also courteous and polite. It's a must go place for people working in the same building and love south Indian cuisine.
I have now ordered from this place quite a few times. the quality is good and does not fluctuate...but the minimum order does for a phase 3 delivery.
For those who can differentiate between sambhar from chennai Bangalore and hydrabad - their taste is more towards chennai.
I like the sambar. It's different from South Indian outlets in the vicinity and awesome. Very friendly people and very quick service. Must visit.
Not a very big fan of the south Indian cuisine, but Chennai-amma sure changed my opinion. The service is very warm and hospitable and I was suggested the Mysore masala dosa because of my spice preference. In addition to that, I had the Idli and dahi vada (the most refreshing thing for a summer afternoon).
My meal ended with a glass of traditional filter coffee which was as good as it can get.
Overall a wonderful place to experiment with south Indian cuisine!
Cheers.
The place is located in building no 5 at DLF Cyber City. Though now the building itself has many food outlets. But this one is unique. The place serves good south Indian food. I this time had their combo of veg Kurma and parotta combo. The parotta was made very well.
Must try whenever around
Three things ..
1. If you are at building no. 5
2. You have a craving for idli's, dosa's uttapam n all south indian stuffs
3. Money in your wallet
Go for it ... cause good taste doesn't come cheap
Lovely dosa's served wid a twist which is revealed through cheese dosa or pizza dosa , Idli platter also a decent quick grab especially gupowder Idli, Above average buttermilk to go wid it all .
Good South Indian food found here. Sambar tastes quite authentic. Mostly whatever you order would be nice and comforting. Although they recently changed their recipe of their egg curry. Please change it back. The new recipe is not as nice as the old one
Recently my Job got switch to gurgao and I was lucky enough to find a good South Indian Restaurant in the food court Catching a quick lunch on my own between meetings, I ordered one plate of regular masala dosa, vada and
Gunpowder IDLI (yummy) . The dosa was a extraordinary affair with As usual accompanied with fresh chatnis and best sambhar I had after sagar ratna(Original Store). Vada was awesome too but show stealer was Gunpowder IDLI which you may not find in any other south indian restaurant, It had perfect blend of Spices in it I really liked it . Staff as expected was courteous and quick. Overall, had a good time!
I have literally eaten breakfast here for nearly 5months and still craved for it! Gunpowder idli is something not to be missed!! For dosa lovers, gunpowder masala dosa is a heaven.
Good food. Good service. Friendly staff.
The perfect place for breakfast or lunch if you are working a day shift.
The hot and crispy Dosas are pretty delicious served with a nice authentic sambar. Biryani and korma are excellent if you want a break from your daily routine.
Place is almost always full but they provide a really quick service.
Offers Good south Indian food, especially onion varieties. Onion masala dosa a must try. Takes some time to serve as it gets too crowded during lunch time on office days.
If you've been craving some good south Indian after all that rajma chawal and paranthas at office, be sure to hit this place. A great place for breakfast, brunch, lunch, snacks or dinner, thanks to the versatile menu and quick, organized and friendly service.
They've got their sambaar and chutney spot on and have many interesting combos on offer. The chicken curry with parantha (there's a version with no oil) is especially good. Would recommend this place of you're in a hurry for a meeting or just taking a long lunch break.
Awsome food (pizza utpam, chicken curry south indian style with paratha .
Nice staff.please open more outlets in delhi Ncr .I hope you open soon
Good job ......
Awesome finger licking south Indian food! I think over the years I ve got used to Sagar Ratna taste n somehow it doesn't excite me any more. Chennai Amma offered the much awaited break and i specially liked the vada speed in sambar! The vada was still crisp even after 10 mins! Gunpowder soda is also great!! All the best to you guys and hope you open soon in Delhi as well :-)
IN PRELUDE
1. I love south indian food and travel to that part almost half of the month. So south indian food aint a
2. I am candour on most aspects and being a foodie don’t consider placing my opinion on either side of the coin is just.
3. Have been to this outlet on more than 10 occasions so, can perhaps better delineate what to expect.
THE SCORECARD
I consider any outlet, particularly not specialty restaurants should be looked at from these perspectives:
Taste (4 on 5)
The outlet very truly is a hybrid of northish version of south indian food (Eg: sambar wont be sweet or thin like you get in parts of Hydbad and Chennai). Perhaps, I like this outlet for this reason more than anything.
They make amazing utthapams and chutneys in particular, BE CAREFUL ABOUT items like burnt garlic uttapam as those will make you chew your fingers off (Yumm!!).
Filter coffee is heart of south indian food and one here doesn’t disappoint. You can get it customized to your needs (strong or light). Since, people in north india don’t have an appetite for typical filter coffe you get in south india, the outlet keeps it mild. But you can always request them to give a typical southish one.
On various items in the menu they easily par with Sarvana Bhawan (Delhi). Try both places and you will see (BTW, Chennai Amma is cheaper)
Innovation (4/5)
I like to visit same outlet only where I feel I can be surprised by the menu. In short, I like treating my taste buds to new stuff (even if the location ain’t a new one). They experiment a lot – with types of dosas, uttapams, chutneys, biryanis, curd rice and list can go on. There list changes from summers to winters with weekly specialty concepts and daily special item (written nicely on small blackboard, with fancy drawings).
Price (3.5/5)
I saw some reviews mention the menu being overprice. I agree and don’t agree to the said notion.
I agree, as dosas/uttapam in an average south indian outlet is price around Rs 80, instead of about Rs 110 here.
But I don’t agree with the logic for the following reasons:
1. This isn’t a typical average south indian outlet. Despite being housed in a food court, expect a premium quality and service
2. Its Gurgaon and that too DLF cyber city. Compare their food (with price) with peers in DLF Cyber City (Sanskriti, Cyber Greens) etc. You would find that, they outscore competition in taste and price, both.
But still NCR wide, there is no denying the price is, umm, letz say – ‘not on a lower side’.
Customization (4.5/5)
The best part of this outlet is that it considers (to very specification) of customer requests. I for one like utthapam thin, crispy and spicy. I have seen others request for nearly opposites. Restaurants that accepts customer requests are common but ones that delivers it to the specification are seldom.
Host behavior and service (5/5)
As another review mentioned, the young host is soft spoken and extremely sweet in accepting customization request. They have a good policy of giving bills on each transaction (makes you feel good on tax, welfare and blah blah aspect!). Service is fairly quick and not one I have ever complained (PS: I am a cry baby when it comes to waiting for food, so this is a big statement for me to make)
Local presence (4/5)
Other food outlets around this one are in mess and disaster in taste, so if you are near Cyber city (Building 5), close your eyes (metaphorical here) and walk straight to Chennai Amma.
Potential (4/5)
The taste I agree is sometimes as awesome as THE Sarvana Bhawan (Chennai) and on others slightly less than awesome like Sarvana Bhawan (Delhi). I (luckily) have never had a bad experience with this outlet (more than 10 occasions and counting)
Given taste, innovation space, service and other dynamics, I consider, that with little more efforts and investment around marketing this outlet has ability to reach pinnacle of quality (in south indian food from non specialty outlets)
THE VERDICT
I want to give this outlet a good ‘4’ but given their potential and how important they are in their location have no choice but to give them a ‘4.5’.
If you are planning a one time visit read it as a good 4 and if you are planning recurring ones, this outlet will be your life savior in that location (4.5 or even 5 for that matter)
Fantastic food, quick service, well priced. The closest you'll get to authentic South Indian if you're living or working in Gurgaon! Great non-veg variety too, must have the Onion Fry Masala Dosa and the Filter Coffee.
Best place for South Indian breakfast in Gurgaon
Good food...authentic taste
