No place like Oh Calcutta. Me and my hubby are foody and whenever we go to Oh Calcutta we just enjoying eating the Bengali platter and the staffs are so humble. A must go place.
Undoubtedly the best Bengali restaurant in Hyderabad. Very authentic, classy Bengali food and environment.
Must try : Luchi-Kosha Mangsho, Vetki Jhal, Dab Chingri, Nolen Gurer Ice Cream
Mutton was very fresh and tender. Vetki and Chingri also supreme quality.
Had them all. Fantastic home feeling.
One of the best place to eat Bengali food or in general good food! They have a limited menu but everything is good. Our go to is always Daab Bhapa Maach (Coconut Steamed Fish)! Give it a try.
As mentioned by others this is indeed a little expensive place, but the food is really tasty. This was our first visit to a Bengali Cuisine and we are glad that it was at Oh! Calcutta. Everything from starters till deserts it was too good. Staff helped us in deciding our dishes and are very courteous. Make sure you visit this place at leisure, as the service is slow. We enjoyed that as we visited for a leisure late night dinner. May be they will be quick if you ask for. Overall a good experience and would recommend to others.
We ordered the following:
Starter - Bhapa chenna aam kashundi & mochar chop
Main course - steamed rice, pressure cooker mutton curry & chingri malai curry
Dessert - nolen gurer ice cream & roshogolla
All the items tasted heavenly. Will visit again soon.
Best Bengali food in town i guess....must visit place . Calcutta fish fry is a must try...the staff is very courteous and they help you with the menu....the service is a tad slow ...the price is on a higher end....
Everytime I come here and I am amazed again and again with the Pressure Cooker Mangshor Jhol... Do visit this amazing restaurant to try this signature dish...
Oh! Calcutta is a very popular fine dining Bengali restaurant which has branch in all over India. I visited there recently for lunch , so will review few items I tasted last time.
Topsher Cutlet(Starter)- Per plate contains 4 standard size cutlets. Taste is good. It's not spicy. Can be served to two people easily .👌
Price per plate- 390.
I'll rate it 4.1/5
Jhinge Alu posto Large(Veg curry item)- It's served in a large quantity with diced Ridge gourd and potatoes with thick paste of poppy seeds. I found it finger lickin!😋
Price per plate- 375.
I'll rate it 4.6/5
Ilish Fry portion(Hilsa Fry) - I think this dish does not need any introduction. I must say one thing, they provided really very good quality and tasty Hilsa .
Per plate contains one big piece along with 2 standard size fried Roe. I won't try to explain the taste, my mouth is watery already.😜😋
Price per plate-590.
I'll rate it 4.4/5
Bhetki Kalia- Taste of Bhetki was good, I would not mention very good though. I found little sweetness in the gravy, which I didn't like much. All-over, the item is OK.😊
Per plate contains 2 standard pieces of Bhetki along with semi thick gravy.
Price per plate-690
I'll rate it 3.6/5
Gandharaj Shikanji- This Mocktail is very soothing and refreshing. I just loved it. Will recommend everyone to have it once you visit Oh! Calcutta.❤️
Price -160
I'll rate it 4.7/5
I'll rate the appearance: 4.3/5
I'll rate the Waiter service: 4.5/5
The food was amazing. Authentic bengali food. We had ghee pulao, cholar dal, begun bhaja, rui kalia , mutton kosha and roshogolla. Everything was damn tasty. Their service was also ver nice. Polite behaviour of the staff. A bit on the expensive side but worth the price
Recently visited the place, totally for the love of FISH. Absolutely liked my experience over here and surprisingly, my husband loved it too. Unlike me, he is not a fish eater or lover, but I think since yesterday Oh! Calcutta managed to change him.
We ordered Loityya Maach Fry and Kakra Chingri Bhapa for starters and totally loved the distinct flavours. The Bhapa turned out to be unexpectedly yummy and the Maach Fry was beyond description. Later, we ordered Char Grilled Promfret in Lemon and Mustard paste and it was simply finger licking.
For main course we ordered Rui Maacher Dom Jhol and Rice, which was average as I felt the salt was less in the curry.
For desserts we ordered Rosogolla and Bhapa Sondesh- Sondesh was on point and tasty, but was a but disappointed with Rosogolla as it was warm and I dont like my desserts warm or hot.
Overall my experience was good and am completely satisfied with the food and the ambience. Would recommend it to friends and would visit them again and again to try their other dishes on the menu.
You can keep the Bengali out of Bengal, but you cannot keep the Bengal out of the Bengali.
I visited Oh Calcutta! in Begumpet twice during Durga Puja 2019 for their special buffet. I was lucky to have experienced both their menus on the two different days. All that I can say is that the food was too good to be true and it kept my sadness of being away from home during the festivities slightly at bay. The fish, the chicken, the mutton, the biriani, the payesh, all reminded me of the food my mother and my grandmother have always cooked at home. Special mention to the aaloo kabli and the fish fry on each of the days. The service was very good too in spite of an overwhelming crowd especially on the second day of my visit, which was Dashami. I wish that Oh Calcutta! in Begumpet would have regular buffets like they do in their counterparts in places like Delhi.
I have been in Hyderabad for a month then. And I decided to visit this place. My mom and dad were here for the Durga Puja and we thought of trying out a Bengali Restaurant here. What's better than Oh! Calcutta.
So they were having their Puja Feast Buffet then. The menu consisted of Murgh Potli Kebab, Fish Finger, Steamed Rice, Kolkata Chicken Dum Biriyani, Kosha Kakra, Prawn Tomato Jhal, Macher Matha diye Mugh Dal, Murshidabad Dum Gosht, Pabda Sorse jhal. And for dessert we had Bhapa Sandesh, Gurer Payesh, Aamer Mousse, Mishti Doi and Malai Chomchom.
The food was amazing. The fish Finger was my favorite among the starter. In the main course Kakra, Pabda and Mutton was amazing to say the least. We loved their taste with Steamed Rice more rather than Biriyani. The Biriyani was a bit disappointing and the Prawn Tomato Jhal we didn't like much. Also we ordered Radha Ballavi which was quite good. For dessert, my favorite was Gurer Payesh. However the mishti doi was pretty bad and none of us liked it.
Overall it was a satisfying experience and I would love to visit them again.
To quote Vir Sanghvi "..but if you want a city with a soul, go to Calcutta"
As that ain't so feasible, Oh! Calcutta brings Kolkata to you on a plate with much love and flavours intact.
Aam pora and Gondhoraj shorbot are Bengal's take on refreshingly different, mouth watering mocktails followed by Bangali's favourites Topshe and Chingri, which are made into cutlets and the latter is loaded with chillies and coriander.
Ghee pulao with Chholar dal and Aloo bhaja is a must try if you want to taste comfort on a plate!
And their Daab Chingri has an ex-prawn-nential power to transport you right to the homes of Kolkata!
As if that wasn't enough, Nolen gurer Ice cream waits for you as the perfect finishing touch to the perfect meal!
yestrday Frist time came in oh calcutta.the food was really nice.inthe main coursewe had kosha mangsho with kaju kis pulao.each dish are outstanding.so if you want bengali food must try
Authentic bengali food served here. Excellent service and courtious staff. Ambience also very good.
We had fish fry kosha mangho daab chingri steamed rice luchi and dessert nolen gurer ice cream Misti doi.Definitely we visit again....
Nice place to visit.....
great ambience....
Visiting again very soon..
Loved the foods ..
Nice buffet.
Good food with wonderful ambience. Mr. Pradeep explained about Bengali food very well.
Food tastes delightful and authentic. Portions abysmally inadequate for the price. Interiors could have been more thematically appropriate, keeping in mind the cuisine it serves.

Was pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant in Hyderabad that can tailor spice levels as per your need- I was very particular about having only mild, non spicy yet tasty food and ‘Oh Calcutta’ just delivered that. Very authentic and homely dishes, I would recommend the restaurant twice over!!
Ambiance was really good. Food was amazing. And the service was excellent.really loved the service here. It felt like family here as if all of these people were a part of my family. And as if was a part of them.I eat koshamangsh with luchi
And bhapa ilish with rice..and misti doi. I love oh Calcutta..
Wonderful food, good ambience & great staff. Mr.prasant made sure we had a great time. They serve the best bengali cuisine in the city. We keep visiting the place almost every alternate week ,yet we enjoy having similar kind of dishes again and again. Daab chingri, mutton kosha, Mango icecream and their Gondhoraj range of mocktails are the best in the cards and a must try.
We had been here 2 weeks back and our experience was awesome. In starter we had ordered matal chingri nd believe me the prawns were fantastic, juicy nd had the aroma of black pepper in it. In the main course we had butter naan, kosha mangsho, pulao nd aam kasundi kakra. Each nd every dish was outstanding. The staff were also courteous nd good. So if you want to have authentic bengali cuisine this is the place.
Oh Calcutta
So I was invited to be a part of Hilsa festival..
Hilsa is the queen of fishes ! Oh Calcutta is one of the best places which serves authentic Bengali cuisine in Hyderabad ! Located on main road makes it easy for people to locate the restaurant.the ambience is decent and elegant this place can accommodate upto 50-70 people coming to the staff and management they were very courteous and polite the hospitality was really good ! The walls are filled with portraits of film actors who belong to Calcutta and the cutlery was also so classy that it has some monuments printed on it overall this place will give you some homely feels let's get started with the food so we got our hands on their hilsa festival menu as well as some other specialities too ...
MOCKTAILS :-
Lychee and Gondhoraaj Mojito
Watermelon and basil crush
Gondhoraaj shorbat
Among all these the watermelon and basil crush was a refreshing one ! I personally liked it ....
STARTERS :-
Ilisher fish fingers
Mocchar ilish
Gondhoraaj bhapa murgi Kebab
Murshidabadi murgi fry
Chhana korai shutir chop
Chhana aam kashundi paturi
Mocchar ilish is a must try ! I really liked the flavoured it had murshidabadi murgi fry was delectable ! Chhana korai shutir chop were so crispy and crunchy and I liked the concept of Gondhoraaj bhapa murgi kebab chicken wrapped in a leaf cooked in steam tasted just like dumplings !! Chhana aam kashundi paturi was Flavourful the paneer was cooked perfectly and it had the exact spice level !
MAIN COURSE :-
Laal lonkar ilish
Bhapa ilish
Chingri malai Curry
Meghna majhidaar ilish
Fish tomatoer jhal
Kosha mangsho
Bhapa ilish had a strong Flavouring of mustard !! Laal lonkar ilish was a bit tangy and spicy chingri malai Curry was supposed to be spicy but it wasn't it was oily and the prawns were undercooked !! Kosha mangsho was the showstopper of the way !!!! I really loved the Flavours the meat was perfectly cooked the Flavours and spices were on point and when had with luchi it tasted heavenly !! So all these Curries were supposed to be accompanied with luchi which is Puri ya Bhature and steamed rice

Kheer I mean the chaler payesh was really delicious it just made our day coming to roshogolla and Mishti doi who needs an introduction or description about it they were delectable but I felt the chaler payesh was the bestest !
If you are a hardcore fish lover or a Bengali who's in search of a place which can cure your cravings then you must surely head to Oh Calcutta !!
Went in here few days back with a group of friends to enjoy their Hilsa fish festival. Being a typical odiya i always crave for mustard based gravies which is also a forte of bengalis. So this thing made me want to taste their hilsa dishes even more.
The ambience was quite cozy and basic with accommodation for about 50 people at once, can go with family and friends for lunch abd dinner. The interiors were showcasing the whole Kolkata in brief, such artifacts were present and also crafted fishes hanging everywhere!👌
Coming to the beverages, we had few amazing mocktails. Lychee and Gondhoraaj mojito , watermelon and basil crush , Gondhoraaj shorbot were served which were all good and refreshing. Gondhoraaj is basically lemon in bengali, so the mocktails mostly were lemon based.
Starting off with the food menu, we had the hilsa specials. Ilish fish fingers were good, but i felt it could have been more flavorful. Mocchar Ilish was second and trust me this was an absolute delicacy, simply loved it. It was served with my favorite mustard sauce. Loved the combo ❤️ Bhetki fish fry was another favorite from the day. The fish inside was so soft and well cooked. Channa Korai shutir chop was basically a veg kebab starter and tasted great. Murshidabadi Murgi fry was decent .
Gondhoraaj bhapa murgi was a traditional steamed chicken in banana leaf dish which tasted quite good.
Channa aam kashundi paturi was steamed cottage cheese dish which was tangy and spicy, a good one. Chingri malai curry was the prawn dish cooked in coconut milk gravy. It basically didn't go with my pallette. Fish Tomatoer jhaal was salmon cooked in tomato gravy, it tasted real good. Bhapa Ilish was another favorite dish from the day, in this the hilsa fish is cooked in mustard gravy. Lal lonkar and meghna Majhidaar ilish were other great hilsa dishes.
In the desserts we had the traditional bengali sweets such as Chaler payesh which was simply yummy, Rashogolla and mishti doi which were other delights. Rashogolla could have been more softer. Mishti doi could have been less sour.
My overall experience was simply good. Presentation wise they've simply nailed it. Taste wise also ive loved most of the dishes. A must recommended place to experience the unique bengali dishes especially Hilsa.
It goes without saying that one can enjoy the most sumptuous bite of history and heritage only at oh ! Calcutta . It’s one the most talked about fine dine restaurant and I always wanted to try the food out there . Ambience was really good , very subtle interiors , can accommodate upto 60 at a time . Wall paintings all around make this place even more beautiful . You can go with your family and friends to enjoy a great meal . Was here few days back to try their specially curated menu during the Hilsa Fish Festival . I’m not a big fish fan , but the dishes I tasted here were lip smacking . Let’s start with the review .
Firstly , we started off with their mocktails .
1.lychee and gondhoraj Mojito
2.watermelon and basil crush
3.Gondhoraj sharbat
They tasted really good . Not too sweet, just the adequate balance of flavours .
Then from starters :
1.ilish Fish fingers : could’ve been more flavourful . I found them a bit bland .
2.Mochar ilish : the best dish I had on that day . Full of flavours . Mildly spiced . Just perfect for any palette.
3.channa kuraishotir Chop : a veg starter . Could’ve been a bit more crispier . Tasted pretty good .
4.bhetki fish fry : Tried this for the very first time and I actually loved it . Mustard sauce just uplifts the entire fish dish . Well marinated and perfectly cooked .
5.murshidabadi murgh tikka : Chicken was soft and tender . Well seasoned and perfectly marinated with the local spices .
6.chanda Aam kashundi paturi
From the main course , we ordered :
1.Bhapa ilish : was one of the best . Hilsa was cooked in mustard gravy . That instant hit of mustard was a bit off for me .
2.chingri malai curry : This needs a lot improvement . Was way too sweet and didn’t go with my palette .
3.fish tomatoer jhal : salmon was cooked in tomato gravy . Tasted good . Perfect balance of flavours .
4.meghna majhidar ilish
From the desserts :
1.Chaler payesh : it was too good . Typical rice kheer with jaggery .
2.rasgulla : it was bit hard and chewy . Could’ve been much softer .
3.mishti Doi .
My experience at oh Calcutta was really amazing . Staff was very courteous and looked after our comfort . Some dishes were way too amazing and some of them needs a bit of improvement .
Visited this place for hilsa fish festival last week.
Hilsa is a species of fish which is very popular as food fish in South Asia. Very famous and known for multiple names Ilish, hilsa, Ellis etc.
Oh Calcutta, known for serving authentic Bengali cuisine, starts month long celebration called hilsa festival. This festival showcases different variety of hilsa recipes and the special spices and herbs uses are part of Bengal tradition.
To all the sea food lovers out there! Go catch your fish and the festival will be till the end of this month.
It's time to fix date with "queen of fishes".
Fish fry : This was probably my favourite. Deep fried with perfect crisp. Taste was amazing.
Gondhoraj bhapa murgi kabab : Chicken marinated with lemon n ginger paste and steamed to perfection. The presentation is unique as it was served in a wrapped banana leaf.
Murshidabadi murgi fry : Chicken marinated with spices and ginger juice. Taste was good.
Mochar ilish : Fish covered and cooked with banana flower. Taste was decent.
Bhapa ilish : Hilsa fish cooked with spicy mustard paste. It is best paired with white rice.
Kosha mangosha : Juicy tender mutton cooked woth yoghurt, cinnamon, fried onions and other spices. Little spicy but i guess that dish has to be little spicy
Chingri malai curry : Praws cooked in mild coconut cream. Taste was good.
DESSERT
Chaler payesh : Rice cooked in sweet condensed milk woth jaggery. Kheer was sweet rich in taste and very delicious. Which makes it a perfect dish to end the meal.
Over all experience was good. One of its kind of fest! So, don't miss out.

We all know fish is the heart of Calcutta and this place is something you need to bookmark as soon as possible if you are a fish lover like me. The queen of of fish Ilish also known as hilsa is and so is their special hilsa menu.
Tried few of their fish delicacies and chicken delicacies and trust me if you are a fish lover you sure gonna love this place.
We are welcomed with a welcome drink and chat.
For starters tried
Fish Fry: It's Crumb fried fillet of fish marinated with fresh lime, ginger juice and green chillies. served with mustard kashundi. It's one of the best fish fry I had till date.
Mochar Ilish: Spiced banana flower and hilsa cooked together.Loved this combination and will definitely recommend it.
Gondharaj Bhapa Murgi Kebab: Chicken marinated with fragrant lemon and ginger paste and steamed in leaf. Steaming it in the leaf adds a special taste to this dish.
Murshidabadi Murgi: Griddle cooked chicken marinated wjth aromatic spices, ginger juice, egg and flour.
For main course opted for
Fish Tomatoer Jhal, Kosha Mangsho, Aamra Diye Ilish, Chingri malai. Paired these with some Luchi and steamed rice and all these went well with both luchi and rice.
To end with opted for chaler payesh which is served cool and so soothing to the taste buds.
Overall I would highly recommend this place especially for the love of fish and their service. It's value for money.
Wow!!!!!!!! Quality of fish is very good and the preparation is completely similar to the Kolkata. Service is also good. You can try lemon bhapa chicken over there its nice.

If you happen to be a fish lover this blogpost is definitely meant for you.
Hilsa or IIish is one fish which can definitely be a desire for many, it’s not every day that people go gaga over a fish like that. There have been proses and poetry being written about this fish and they have an entire season dedicated to it.
During Poyla Boisakh, Bengali New Year, celebrated mainly in Bangladesh and West Bengal it is mandatory to have Hilsa with fermented rice, called as panta bhat during breakfast. Hilsa is also considered to be really auspicious in traditional Bengali families and is brought in before any important occasion. Hilsa is also considered to be the costliest fish and due to it non availability due to the growing export demand it has been replaced by Rohu for such occasions.
Monsoon season is considered to be the month of Hilsa and there are many food festivals dedicated to it. Oh! Calcutta recently began their month long Hilsa festival and I was invited for a dinner. The starters served were all mouthwatering and had distinctive flavors. Kolkata Fish Cry, Gondhoray Bhapa Murgi Kebab, Mochar Ilish and Murshidabandi Murgi Fry are a must try.
The curries served were no less and I can definitely say they were one of the best fish curies I have had. Lal Lonkar Llish, Fish Tomatoer Jhal and Aamra Diye Llish were the best of the curries and I just couldn’t stop myself from gorging on it along with luchi.
I also tried Kosha Mangsho and Chingri Malai Curry which I didn’t really enjoy as the former was sweet and the latter quite watery.
As usual the dinner had to end with sweets and we had Chaler Payesh for it, which is a rice based pudding.
Overall this Hilsa fest is any fish lovers delight and is on at Oh! Calcutta for the entire month. So what are you waiting for? Just go and enjoy the queen of fish!
They say that when want something whole heartedly, the universe conspires it happen and that's what happened with me. Ever since I got to knew about the Hilsa Fish Festival at Oh! Calcutta, I wanted to visit them and finally we got a chance through an invite.
Yes, its Hilsa fish, something rarely available in Hyderabad. So as we reached the elegant nostalgic Bengali ambience consumed us and welcomed us with fish pic hangings all around the rest. Now coming to the food:-
Starters- Mochar Chop, Mochar Ilish, Gondhoraj Bhapa Murgi Kebab, Murshidabad Murgi Fry and Fish Fry
Main Course- Bhapa Ilish, Kosha Mangsho, Chingri Malai curry with Steamed rice and Luchi
Desserts- Bhapa Sandesh, Chaler Payesh and Misti Doi.
We had an amazing experience as almost as expected. Having Hilsa after a long time made me a little homesick as well. Fish Fry, Bhapa Ilish, Chingri Malai curry and Chaler Payesh are absolute must trys. Mochar Chop, Mochar Ilish and Bhapa Sandesh were the show stoppers of dinner. If you are a fish lover/Bengali do visit this restaurant as we highly recommend it, specially before 31st August to enjoy the special Hilsa delicacies of Bengal.

One of the best Bengali restaurant.....Awesome food excellent service. Ilish finger and Matal chingri starters were superb taste. If you are Ilish lover you can try Ilish khechuri combo very nice combination......Must visit place we will back soon.......
Oh! Calcutta is the label that introduced countless Indians to the pleasures of Bengali cuisine. Oh! Calcutta, located in Begumpet, occupies the ground floor of a multi-storied building dedicated solely to specialty Group restaurants. This place has two dining rooms, with bookshelves that act as a partition. The place is sparsely decorated with a fireplace, framed black and white photographs as the only decoration components. It offers 2 very different kinds of Bengali food – luxuriant food that is scarcely seen outside of restaurants or special events, and the regular homely menu. I have been to Oh! Calcutta to try their Hilsa Festival Menu, which features a special menu with ingredients and flavors inspired by culinary traditions of Bengal. Hilsa, aka Pulasa In Telugu, is considered as one of the tastiest and costliest fish.
Appetizers:
Fish Fry: Big size boneless Hilsa pieces were marinated & deep fried with a crispy coating. This delicious, crispy & spicy fish fry made for a great start of our meal
Gondhoraj Bhapa Murgi Kebab: An amazing creation of aromatic lemon juice, minced chicken steamed dumplings, wrapped in banana leaves. Pepper taste was overpowering the dish.
Murshidabad Murghi fry: Griddle cooked chicken marinated with aromatic spices. Tasted very good, as the chicken was succulent with properly infused flavors
Mochar Ilish: Mashed boneless layer of fish was covered with a layer of the well-cooked banana flower. The dish is decent.
Main course::
Bhapa Ilish: Hilsa pairs well with mustard paste, and there are many variations in this combination, which is almost always gorged with white steamed rice. Bhapa Ilish is the boneless version of a fish steamed with mustard paste and green chilies in banana leaves in a stronger mustard flavor. The flavor of mustard elevates the overall taste of the dish through the roof. A classic done right, you cannot miss out on this.
Kosha Mangsho: Traditional with bones mutton curry cooked in special spicy gravy. A perfect combination of sweet and spiciness
Chingri Malai Curry : Another popular delicacy. Prawns were cooked in mild coconut milk and cream gravy. Tasted very sweet and I expected it to be a little more creamy.
Desserts::
Chaler Payesh (fragrant rice kheer) :: Chaler Payesh is a traditional rice kheer recipe from Bengali cuisine. The kheer is creamy, rich, aromatic and melt in the mouth. But it was too sweet for my palate.
Overall, an interesting festival which presents a whole range of authentic as well as modern dishes around a particular fish. The staff were very helpful in suggesting what might go with what. Do not miss this!!

ITS ALL ABOUT HILSA !!!!
Ilish/Hilsa is definitely one kind of fish that is quite in demand has multiple names as Ilisha, hilsa, hilsa herring or hilsa shad is a very popular and sought-after food fish in the Indian Subcontinent and is Bangladesh's national fish. There is a lot of cultural integration with this QUEEN OF FISH.
In many Bengali Hindu families, a pair of ilish fishes are bought on auspicious days. In West Bengal, a famous dish which tastes good with fried ilish fish is 'khichudi' (a special way of cooking lentils and rice together with some added herbs). It is popular among all Bengalis during monsoon which is known as the month of ilish. In West Bengal and Bangladesh, ilish is often termed as the 'queen' of fishes.
This fish is called as PULASA in Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh State in India. The name Pulasa stays with the fish for a limited period between July-Sept of a year, when floods(muddy)water flow in Godavari River. So with that much rich influence, obviously the demand for quality Hilsa is inevitably high and costly as well. Oh! Calcutta (Hyderabad) known to showcase Bengali cuisines and has been a landmark for years in the city of Nizams serving authentic brings Hilsa and is celebrating over a month-long celebration - Hilsa Festival that showcases some amazing hilsa recipes that I'm sure no other restaurants serve.
From my dinner experience yesterday, I could say though not a big fan of this dish due to the small bones, the dishes served were one of the best seafood curries I have had with fish.
Starters like Kolkata Fish cry, Gondhoraj Bhapa Murgi Kebab, Mochar Ilish, and Murshidabadi Murgi fry were all simply delicious and each had a unique flavor offering. Obviously, no Bengali meal is complete without luchi and with a plethora of curries served, we kept on gorging. From curries, my top pick would be "LAL LONKAR ILISH", "FISH TOMATOER JHAL" and "AAMRA DIYE ILISH" were my top favorites. Somehow, "KOSHA MANGSHO" was a tad sweet to my palate when I expected to be a bit spicy and "CHINGRI MALAI CURRY" was more watery than creamy.
To end all this meal on a sweet note, we tried "CHALER PAYESH". A Bengali based rice pudding this served chilled was super duper finale for the meal we had. Overall not being much of a fish fan, the dishes served were above my expectations and I would definitely recommend this for any seafood lover and if you are a lover of Hilsa, DONT U MISS IT!!!!!!
Been to this place last night.
A perfect place for family & friends outing. They have alot of varieties in fish food & This is a must check in place for Sea Food lovers.

I was here for the Hilsa Festival that is going on. I am very new to the Bengali cuisine and what's better than experiencing the cuisine in the ongoing Hilsa festival.
Let's talk about the place , the interiors are very cosy with comfortable seating and the staff is too friendly and engaging.
To start with I ordered the mocktails , The watermelon one and virgin mojito , I liked both , but my personal fav was virgin mojito.
For the starters we had a lot of varieties Gondhoraaj Paneer Tikka which was really good , Mocchar ilish was cooked to perfection, Mushirabadi Murg Kebab was Soo tender and good in taste.
For the main course , We had the very famous Luchi, Steamed rice and for the curries we had bhap ilish, Kal mirch tomator jhal. All in all a good main course spread. You will definitely love it.
For the dessert we had Misti doi and guys believe me the best I had in a really long time.
Overall it's a really good place to experience he Bengali cuisine. And if you are Bengali , then my friend you have got a great place to have food.
Oh Calcutta is a Brand that Introduced, many Indians to the Joy of Bengali Cuisines. If you are True Hardcore of Bengali Cuisines, this would be the best place to try the Bengali cuisines.
Recently I got an Opportunity to attend Hilsa Festival at Begumpet, Hyderabad.
Hilsa Festival – Hilsa is said to be “ The Queen of Fish”. As the Monsoon arrives the Tradition of HILSA- said to be the pride of Bengal. It has quite different taste from the regular fish you have at any restaurant. It is said that occasions are incomplete, when ILLISH is not served .
Would be sharing my experience :
1- Ambience : The outlet of Oh ! Calcutta occupies the bottom floor of a multi –stored building devoted entirely to Speciality Group Restaurant. The 2 Dining Rooms are sparsely Decorated, while during the entrance you will find the Bookshelves , Black Framed and White Photographs , and portrait of Bengali’s Theatre Artist.
2- Food : we were served few authentic Bengali Cuisines ,

What an amazing event for all the BONGS and Fish lover's because it's the time for Queen of fish ILISH! (HILSA)
Woahhhhhhh I was super excited because this is only a seasonal fish and yess the Tag defines everything! The Queen!
Oh Calcutta have been so courteous to invite and serve me all the best Fish dishes they've got!
Starting with
Mochar ILish Chop (Banana Blossom) was perfectly crisp and fried to perfection! Every bite was so satisfying.... Super soft fish and crunchy outer layer. Speechless!
Calcutta Fish fry was also no less...
Crunchy and piping hot basa fish inside.
Musheerabadi Kebabs (Chicken Kebabs) were appetising and taste good enough. Mild marination and tender chicken kebabs.
Amra ILish (Gooseberry) was one of a kind!
This one is a proper authentic dish of Bengal and am sure no one will be disappointed right starting from the look to last drop of gravy...😋
Chingdi Macher Malai Curry was phenomenal dish, I don't think I need anymore. The thick, Rich gravy and those beautifully seared Prawns in it took the dish to Next level! Top notch I would say...
Macher Jhaal (Spicy Fish )was mild Spicy but was just like home cooked. Gravy in it could be more thicker.
Bhapa ILish (Steamed Mustard HILSA) was again a show stopper! Holly Molly, the first bite of fish and lil gravy was like Foodgasm in my mouth... I so loved it!
Do try out their HILSA FISH FESTIVAL!!!!
COMPLETELY WORTH IT!

It's monsoon season & for a bengali it means Ilish(Hilsa) season!
Ilish, true to its taste is called 'Queen of Fish', which bengalis(both from India & Bangladesh) loves.
Was craving for this quite some time, when I got invited to try out their new Hilsa Menu.
Chef Anjan Chatterjee curated a special menu for this, bringing out the best of the lot.
Ambiance:
Its situated on the ground floor of the building, which had different restaurants, on each floor.
The place is nicely decorated, containing framed pictured of artists on the walls.
Food: The special menu consisted of non-veg items. Since, we had one vegetarian with us, got to try some of that as well.
In starters:
♥ Mochar Ilish ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✅
♥ Gondhoraj Bhapa Murgi kebab ⭐⭐⭐⭐
♥ Murshidabadi Murgi Fry ⭐⭐⭐⭐
♥ Mochar Chop ⭐⭐⭐
♥ Gondhoraj Paneer Tikka⭐⭐⭐⭐
Main Course:
♥ Bhapa Ilish: The best one ofcourse. The gravy consists of mustard. and the best part was the bones were already taken off. So, mostly who aren't acquainted with fish, can definitely try it,⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✅
♥ Kosha Mangsho: The gravy was a spicy one, tasted really good, but the mutton could been little bit more soft.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✅
♥ Chingri Malai Curry: Another bengali signature prawn dish. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
♥ Hing Aloo Dam: On the sweeter side, but goes well with luchi. ⭐⭐⭐
♥ Rajbarir Channa Kofta: It was too sweet for my liking ⭐⭐⭐
♥ Luchi ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✅
♥ Steamed Rice
Desserts:
♥ Chaler Pyesh ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✅
♥ Sondesh
♥ Mishti Doi
The service was very good, the dishes were explained while serving.
So, if you want to try out some mouth watering Bengali dish, this is the place to go to!
Hilsa is a species of fish related to the saltwater fish. It is a very popular and sought-after fish in the Indian Subcontinent. It is Bangladesh's national fish & the arrival of the Hilsa fish (Also called “Ilish” in Bengali) season in the Bay of Bengal usually coincides with the onset of the south-west monsoon in the subcontinent. Especially, it is a moment every Bengali awaits with bated breath. Over the last few years, have been hosting the Ilish Utsab with great ardour. This year too is no exception and the connoisseurs of authentic Bengali food have left no stone unturned.
Oh Calcutta, Begumpet at Hyderabad is hosting the Hilsa Festival, a chef-curated menu with delicacies revolving around hilsa fish. Generally hilsa being a bony fish, it gets tough to extract the meat out of it. However, the chefs here have gone to the next level by offering couple of boneless dishes of hilsa, thereby making it easy for all food lovers to enjoy the Queen of Fishes. Here’s presenting some of the dishes I tried during my tasting session. This festival is going up till 15th Aug’19; call up on your besties and go ahead enjoy the succulent dishes curated by Chef Anjan Chatterjee.
1. Bhapa Ilish - Ilish Fish steamed along with spices served on banana leaf with a mouth watering spicy Mustard curry. This one was an absolute wonder and a must recommended dish.
2. Ilish Fish Fingers - Bread-crum Coated deep fried Fingers were filled with illish boneless filet cooked till the right amount of crispness.
3. Ilish Paturi - Hilsa fish cooked in banana leaf to retain the flavour of the fish as well as the spices. This was cooked so on-point and well served with Steamed Rice and mustard curry.
4. Gondhoraj Lychee Cooler - This was a drink based on lychee and infamous gondhoraj lemon leaving a soothing effect.
5. Malpua - Traditional pancakes was made using flour are soaked in sugar syrup and topped with a creamy rabdi. This was a must try from the dessert list.
6. Rasgulla - The traditional rasgulla was good but it needed some area of improvement on the softness.
My overall experience was quite good with the courteous staff making sure the dishes are up to mark. A must recommended place for all authentic Bengali cuisine lovers out there.
This is my first experience at oh! calcutta, but i have tried many bengali restaurants in kolkata , hyderabad and other places.
In bengali restaurants, i have tried those dishes which are not readily available at home.
Here I tried few mouthwatering uncommon dishes along with known ones like
topshe fry (fish fried in bater) in starter,
Ilish paturi (hilsha fish packed in banana leaf, a signature dish in bengal),
Aam tel Ilish (boneless hilsha covered in pumpkin leaf, cooked in a clay pot with mango pickel oil and rice - a very special dish in bengal)
Dab chingri (prawn cooked inside a coconut)
Mocha r ghanto (banana flower veg item, very popular in bengal )
Mocha pulao ( pulao with banana flower and coconut)
Except dab chingri, other dishes were fantastic. Specially the mocha narkel pulao (as i am a big lover of mocha). Dishes of hilsa were good. Specially Aam tel ilish which is boneless and intact in shape. These dishes are very popular in West Bengal and Bangladesh.
The restaurant has organised special ilish (Hilsha ) festival and various mouthwatering dishes of hilsha are available. Some uncommon and not readily available dishes are - aam tel ilish (described above), narkel posto ilish (with coconot and poppy), meghna majhir ilish (signature dish with curry), ilish paturi (described above), mocha ilish (hilsha with banana flower), smoked ilish, aamra ilish (aamra fruit and hilsha) etc along with some common dishes like ilish Bhapa (with mustard), ilish jhol (curry) with 3 different choices, ilish bhaja (fry)
But we were disappointed in desserts for quality and taste. We have tried nalen gurer ice cream, bhapa sondesh (baked sweetened cottage cheese) and misti doi which is not up to the mark.
We wish the restaurant to serve signature dishes in future as well and continue with bengali food glory.

This place never dissapoints me. I always go home with a full stomach and smile on my face. Being a bengali, Oh! Calcuta just brings back those childhood memories of luchi, kosha mangsho and what not. The staff is so polite and well mannered. It's always a pleasure to converse with them in Bengali. Feels like home.
As a person who has lived in Kolkata and appreciated Bengali cusine for 10+ years, I have to give give a high five for Oh Calcutta. Despite their not so wallet friendly menu, I look forward to visiting again soon.
I was lucky enough to drop by during their Ilish festival and tried their Ilish Mach er Pathuri (steamed fish, prepared in a leaf and coated with spices, primarily mustard). However the most satisfying was the Ilish fry served with with mustard sauce. I would also recommend their Kosha Mangsho (mutton curry) accompanied with Govindobhog rice.

Oh!calcutta dosnt need any intro being one of the best resturants serving bangali cuisine.right on the begumpet main road adjacent to Itc kakatiya you can spot this.
Though i have visited this resturant once and loved the dishes this time it was for their Hilsa festival a chef curated menu which has some delicacies based on hilsa fish orginated in bengal.
Starters n mains to choose from to suit your palate.
Mojio in mocktails was the best bet for me..
Starters.
Mochar llish a great starter of boneless fish spiced with banane flower was too good to taste
Bhapa murgi kabab was steamed chicken spiced
with yougurt very apt and a must try..
Mushidabadi Murgi fry was was boneless chicken grilled was passable to my palate.
Loved their fish fry which had fish fillet with thin crust of bread crumbs very well made..
Main course.
Fish tamato jhal.tamato based gravy with boneless fish deserves a Hi5 for its taste.
Bhapa llish..mustard based gravy was again a good one.
Kosha mangsho.their mutton usp was good onion based gravy.
Chingri malai curry..a creamy and coconut based prawns curry which i relished a lot.
Luchi and steam rice paired with the gravies were a perfect combo.
Desert.
Chaler paayesh a jaggery and milk flavored sweet with rice was bit sweet to my palate but nice in taste.
Service was efficiend and fast..
A great place to visit if you want to try some bangali dishes.
I went out for dinner with my wife and the choice was Oh! Calcutta restaurant.
The place is nicely decorated with fish items and all kind of objects and paintings recreating the atmosphere from Calcutta. Ambiance is chill, good to have a quiet dinner as we were looking for.
Professional staff took care of with just a bit of a waiting for the food to come but not too much. Maybe we were hungry and every minute counted more.
The food was amazing. We had Chingri Malai Curry (prawn), Classic Railway Mutton Curry, Luchi and Gobindobhoger rice as side. Both of the curries were rich in flavour and strong in taste but very pleasant. The Chingri Malai was a bit sweet since is made with coconut milk or cream and was a good contrast with the Mutton curry, we loved it. We didn’t know exactly that Luchi is actually poori but tasted delicious.
The only minus here was the small quantity of curries in my opinion. We ordered the large portions which cost around rs 500 per curry but it was very less quantity. Only 8 prawns in a large curry and some pieces (mostly bones) on the Mutton curry I think is a bit less. But the taste is really amazing.
Anyway this place I definitely recommend!
The ambience & food in zomato is best . Specially the ppl who serve here . I must compliment that Mr. Prasant is very good & takes good care of us. I visit here because of his hospitality & food
Great place lovely food... staffs are friendly overall everything is good.. a must visit for some authentic bengali food. Must try hilsha fest menu...

Classy restaurant with white linen napkins and unique cocktail list is an oasis in Begumpet,Hyderabad. Decent spice levels customizable for Indian and foreign client palettes alike. A sudden craving for Bengali food landed us at this restaurant , Sunday night dinner, it was crowded but thankfully no waiting time for us.
We opted for A la carte meal and ordered a starter ( Murshidabadi chicken fry) , pressure cooker Mutton curry, and narkol sorshe chingri accompanied by some steamed rice
Can't raise any fingers on the taste quotient , inexplicably well done . Each taste to the point. The mutton was tender and the prawns were juicy. So was the sandesh .
Service commendable too !

It had been pending for a long time. A must visit place. We went for the buffet in lunch. It had a variety of mouthwatering delicious heavenly cuisines in the package . What I liked is , fish fry, Bengali dal and Chingdi dab. Additionally we ordered biriyani which is okayish.

Nice place with good ambience to start with.. Good for authentic Bengali essence... went with very high expectations for Bengali fish curry... while the restaurant did not match up to that expectation it still is a good place with nice authentic Bengali dishes
Great place for Bong connexion,Off course prices are bit higher side but you can relish &Feel homely with all those bong traditional foods ,Some how I had Elish Paturi &Fish fry made by original bhetki,Instead of kossa mangso u could try lot of fish varieties which make u nostalgic.
Best Bengali Food in Hyderabad
This is always our first choice when we want to indulge our tastebuds with the food from our roots... Without doubt this is an amazing place for all the bengalis in hyderabad, craving for the taste of home/bengali food (thakuma, didima r mayer haater ranna), brings in the nostalgia.... Also a perfect place for everyone to get a taste of how authentic Bengali food is... Both east n west bengal (e paar r o paar bangla). Though the prices are on the little higher side, but with the hospitality, ambience and the food... Its all worth it.
If you have never been to this place then, their set thali is a must try. To give you all a heads up, bring in your appetite since the spread and quantity is really good.
Apart from this although most of the food is amazing on their menu, kosha mangsho n luchi is a must try apart from fish dishes for non-vegetarians and bhaja moong dal with aaloo bhaja is a must try if you want to try out vegetarian options.
Sorry.... Forgot photos... Since I was way too busy eating(every time....oops)... Enjoy your visit if you havent!
Oh! Calcutta never fails to delight their guests not only with delicious food but also great hospitality.
In frame: Daab chingri (Prwans served in green coconut), Gobinobhog rice, and Bengali’s all time favourite Kosha Manghso(Mutton). And thank you so much @ohcalcutta_ for the complimentary Payesh to make my birthday special.
Had a wonderful culinary experience at the Oh! Calcutta restaurant. Among others, crispy mouthwatering taste of Topse fish fry with aam-kasundi dip, gorged into the subtle yet authentic taste of prawns from Khulna-Bangladesh.... gandharaj bhapa (steamed) murgi (chicken) wrapped in steamed banana leaf... awesome, evergreen taste of Elish Bhapa with steaming hot basmati rice & topping it up with seasonal raw-mango chutney👌👍 it’s a delight & ultimate peth-pojo at our wedding anniversary😀🙏
Been there for lunch just to taste Bengali cuisine for a change, had Maacher paturi & Calcutta biryani..Soo yummy... Will look forward to visit again.
This was my first visit in Hyderabad on the occasion of Poila Baisakh( Bengali New year's day).
Very polite and friendly staff coupled with simply yummy food made my day.
Only suggestion to have a dedicated coordinator to manage the buffet during festive days.

No complaints food wise. The food quality absolutely lives upto the the brand name. However had a couple of bad experiences - the first one being very poor service. I know it might not be relatable to everyone but the day I went there I had a bad experience. Waited nearly one hour for a simple plate of basmati rice and pabdar jhal!! The nolen gurer ice-cream however got arranged very quickly after complaining. Also, my second issue is - I couldn’t find any buffets here which is kinda took me as a surprise. I have been to various Oh Calcuttas in different cities and apart from one outlet in Kolkata this is the second one where they don’t serve buffets - at-least on the day I visited! Not sure if it was a periodic thing as right now I can see they have buffet details in Zomato
The prawn items were very very good ..u shld try the kakra chingri bhapa and daab chingri was amazing..kosha mangsho was disappointing as it had bitter taste. The bhapa shondesh was too good to be true. The service was also very good.
Good experience for the second time.Food was very good & the service also.Mr. Prashant thank you so much for the dessert. Will love to come back soon
