A unique biryani experience. They serve Biryani made out of a specific rice that comes from Nellore. The rice has its inherent taste which goes well with the chicken. Also tried their fried fish which was good. The best part is they serve beer as well. Gajar ka halwa was apt for dessert.

For a place that claims to still used home produced spices, nothing that we ate stood out. This is not to say that the food was bad, but it’s unlikely to induce a plan to revisit. Esp. with strong competition in form of Simply South close by.

The ambiance is standard no nonsense and upper class. Service well-oiled and efficient – but the staff has not been trained to exude the personal touch, hence you get the feel of an efficient assembly line. The problem with this is that it cannot cater quickly to a request outside the standard ordering process, hence the wait for refills and additional orders.

The good thing is that this is the only exclusive Chettinad place. If Ponnuswammy or Anjappar decide to come to Hyderabad that Junior Kuppanna will need to get some differentiated experience in place. Merely a well turned out Menu and efficient service can only get you so far…

As my hobby to hunt for good food continue, I happen to visit Junior kuppanna, Hitesh city branch recently. Being a south Indian myself, I've already visited the Chennai branch which made me eager to head out to the branch here in Hyderabad. Their buffet system is something to praise about. I've been more keen on their chettinad style of chicken biryani and these guys here haven't disappointed me. This place, Lovely food, their ambience and service is what what will get me back sooner or later.

visited this place on a Saturday two weeks ago for lunch hoping to try Tamil cuisine.
this is located opp  Trident, Hitech City.
Ambiance was refreshing with lot of day light pouring in.
coming to food, they serve buffet and alacarte for lunch.
disappointed to find out that idlis and dosas are served only for dinner
we have ordered  Veg thali and kothu Parotta.
They served Thali immediately and took ages to serve the kothu parotta even after 2 or 3 reminders.
the person who served us initially didn't turn up at our table again.
porial and sambar, served as part of thali tasted good.
Rasam was literally horrible.

finally to conclude, management has to put some efforts to streamline the service and also on  food  to improve the taste of some food items

Food is good. I really like the quality of the paneer they serve. Can't get over the taste yet. I had an absolutely amazing experience with the soup and the starters. Hot and sour was too good.

I like the amount of attention and efforts they invest towards giving you the best experience at the restaurant. They still need to work a lill on the main course. Otherwise I would have given a 5/5.

Overall my experience was amazingly foodalecious 👻

#JuniorKuppanna

After many discussions around on which place to visit for lunch and majority among us being non-vegetarians, Finally decided on Juinor Kuppanna opp to trident hotel(the same place where “Madras Café & Co” use to be). Pretty decent ambience which can accommodate 50-75pax. The menu has both a la carte (starters & main course ranging around 200-300) and buffet (400++). We choose ala carte & surprisingly veg was good over non-veg whereas Junior Kuppanna is famous for its non-veg Kongu Nadu cuisine.

Chicken chukka – It's just the name that sounded different but not the taste. In fact, homemade ones would definitely be been better. This dish lacks the authenticity, flavours and spice.
Prawns fry – One of the signature dish which they say but unfortunately didn’t find it so special. It was good but felt it pricey for the quantity provided.
Mutton Biryani – This reminded me thalapakattu biryani from my Chennai days with a south Tamilnadu touch. Though it tasted like pulav for my co-Hyderabadi palates, for me it was good (as I was used to it for close to 2 years) and could be delicious if it was with seeraga samba rice (they were running out of it 😢).
Stuffed Chicken Parotta -- Flaky parotta stuffed with juicy and tasty chicken gravy finally came as a rescue for my craving.
Veg Fried Rice, was like the usual ones. Nothing great yet good.
Baby corn Manchuria – One of the best I had I would say. Liked it a lot. Crunchy, spicy and couldn't stop with little qty..
The best among all is raitha 🤣 thick Curd and crunchy onions 😆
I would definately visit again to try other dishes before i conclude my perception on this place
Overall bill 1900₹

In the city where predominantly we have the falvours of Andhra, Telugu and Rayalseema cuisines on the taste buds, there are few which try to cater that different flavour which for a change a person would like to see.

On the same line, Junior Kuppaanna is one place with some Kongu nadu cuisine on its menu. For reference Kongu Nadu is the region from old historical India which included some part of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. Hence the mixture of culture and that of taste.

I was here as part of a review session with couple of more folks.

As soon as you enter the restau a bright light ambiance greets you with t was with standard seating arrangements.

Coming to food part the start was with sweet corn soup and tomato shorba. As we were in a southern influenced cuisine restau having some spiced up flavorful soup would have been more to liking. May be Rasam and mulligatwany would have been a nice take. Sweet corn soup was per its name and tomato shorba could have been lil lesser sweet as I would have liked. As that extra sweetness was somewhere taking away the acidic tanginess.

For the appetisers came in as mushrrom masala and chili paneer. Mushroom masala was a high kick of spices to taste buds where as chili paneer, not like with same what we get most of places, did ok.

Coming to the main course we moved on with the idly and dosas coming in out of which erpde dosai is I would suggest on.

The gravy and parottas were decent but were loaded with oil whichI believe can be checcked upon for betterment.

And then finally came in the desserts - Carrot Halwa and cold milk payasam.

Where cold milk payasam was too dilute for liking carrot halwa totally managed to attract our attention. It was nicely made and coming in from a specific south Indian restau it was indeed a sweet surprise to us. Thumbsup to that.

On the service front, these guys were always smiling and prompt on the asks. The feedback was taken as considerate and promise to be sent to the core kitchen in erode.

Coming to question, if I will go again - I do wanna check upon their meals part and may be a change of flavors to taste upon.. so mostly yes.

Junior Kuppana is quite popular brand in chennai and it's opened up in hyderabad as well to deliver their delicious south indian cuisine but my experience in chennai & hyderabad is different i missed the authenticity in hyderabad branch as they need to improve many things will be lighten in my review detail as soon as possible,

There are tooting issues which are must needed to impress the hyderabadi crowd when we have many other south indian food choices.

Impressed with service it's very prompt & responsive so quickly very good & polite staff.

We had been here on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. It was an unplanned trip to this restaurant with office colleagues. It was a pleasant surprise to be honest. The food really tasted like Chennai food with a modern touch. The non veg section in the buffet had a lot of options but we had only the veg options. Not interested in soups we headed for starters and main course. The parathas were delicious along with the veg curries and then the veg biryani, rice with sambhar and specially the RASAM, it was out of the world. The deserts were a delicious lot too. I would recommend a must go to this restaurant for a pleasant experience of Chennai food.

This restraunt is the place if you want to experience the delicacies of south indian cuisine.

The hospitality, ambience, food, service are fantastic!

The first thing you notice is the staff wearing traditional south indian sarees welcoming and escorting you to your desired table. Then the next thing you notice is the carnatic music which will please, humble and mesmerise you. By this time you will definitely feel you entered a different realm of holiness.

We ordered some non-veg starters, and then went to south indian thalis. We were awestruck by the freshness of the food! Right away we rolled our hand cuffs to enjoy the divine food infront of us. Oh my god, the food is so delicious and melting. We went to the restraunt twice in the same week!

We got rice, dal, two curries, rasam, sambar, pickle, papad, curd. There were also the south indian peanut powders, kaaram podi and freshly served ghee.
We were also impressed by the unlimited serving of the rice and all the curries, except ghee. We ended up asking for sambhar, dal for more than 4 times.

We could see the satisfaction that the staff was getting while we were enjoying our food. That smile the staff gave is invaluable! I think this is one of the best restraunt i ever visited in my entire life in hyderabad!

Being from a Punjabi Family and born in Hyderabad, I always have a Soft Corner for South Indian Food. We at home hardly cook South Indian Food so I usually hunt for Places which serve Good South Indian Non-Vegetarian food ,Thanks to my dear friend Vaibhav Mittal for inviting me for a Food trail at The Junior Kuppana Hitech-City.
Junior Kuppana is a very Famous Chain of Restaurant specialising in Tamil Food. They have 60 branches Pan-India and also are located in Singapore.
The restaurant is very easy to locate just opposite to the Trident. The restaurant gives you a very Modern South Indian look with very simple sitting and a artistic Floor Marble.
Now coming to the food To be Very Honest, I felt few dishes lacked the authenticity of the cuisine. The chilly chicken that was served us did not tasted as a South Indian Kind. Lacked Spices and also the Garnishes were Julienne of Cabbage and Beetroot for almost all the starters. That was not what We expect dinning in a chain of Restaurant serving Typical South Indian cuisine for the last 5 decades.
The Dosas, Idili and also the Mutton Chukka were on point. I also loved the Nethili Fish fry, Nice and crunchy. The Vanjivaram fish fry was nicely done with good amount of spices in it.
The kotthu parathas were supposed to be the Show stopper, but they did not taste very Authentic. Lacked the spices and the colour was quite pale.
Biryani was Good, but you cannot expect it to match Your Hyderabadi Palate. It was quite different and I personally liked it.
The Nalli Fry was nicely spiced and the Meat fell off the bone quite easily.
In the desserts, we were served Payasam and Gajar Ka Halwa. The Payasam was a bit undercooked and was quite runny. The Gajar Ka Halwa surprisingly was very rightly made with correct amount of Sweetness and had a nice texture and colour.

The service was On point and the manager was very honest in asking the feedback and also answered the queries very clearly. They do not specialise in Customised meals for the guests as they believe in Consistency. But I believe they are a chain of Restaurants not a chain of Fast Food Centres like KFC and Subway. Restaurants today are more about providing That personal touch to the meals. I hope they start doing that too.

I wish them Luck and Success.

With Only a few chettinad cusine restaurant in hyderabad junior kuppanna is the first pick for ppl who want the relish the same..

Having started in 1960s with many branches in Tamil Nadu.. this name has become a brand of sorts when it comes to chettinad cusine.. now they work on a franchise model and are expanding pan India.. with their second outlet in Hyderabad opening very soon.

They are on a prime location just opp . Trident hotel .

The interiors are simple with ample lighting and comfortable sitting for arnd 100-125 guest..

We we're here for a food review session. ..
Chettinad cusine is known for its strong flavour of spices..

We started off with corn soup and tomato shorba... The corn soup was decent . Tomato shorba was creamy and more like the soup . For me shorba is not creamy , is served pipping hot ,has strong flavour of spices and nice coriander leaf toppings..

Mushroom chukka. A bite into it and you could feel the spices.. a strong flavour of spices .. I liked it but we would certainly need 4-5 ppl to complete even one portion of the same..

Chilly paneer. Paneer was very soft . The marination was perfect just that it was in a pool of oil..the extra oil was a big turn off for me.. less oil would have made the dish wonderful.

Tamil Nadu is known for its varieties of dosa. And one can certainly not miss them . We tried the erode dosa which is the speciality of this cusine.. nice soft dosa served with sambar , coconut chutney , groundnut chutney , sambar and Curry. Wheat dosa and ghee dosa were delicious as well.
Idli is a lot different from what we get in Hyd. They are a bit more spongy and fluffy but the taste is good.
The chutney and sambar are also diff .

Paneer butter masala was again high on oil . The paneer cubes were coated with batter and then deep fried. The gravy was also delicious.. a perfect combination with the range of parotha they serve. Went down well with the veech parotha a d Malabar parotha.

When I think of chettinad cusine first thing that comes to my mind is kothu parotha. Which is lacha parotha cut into small pieces.and cooked with ghee adding a lot of spices onion and Coriander. Here the spice level was very less which disappointed me.

Veg biryani was decent but for someone who is used to the Hyderabadi dum biryani this one might not please your taste buds.

Fir desert I loved the carrot halwa they stuck to the basis and were bang on. But the payasam disappointed me as the milk was to thin and the traditional flavour was missing..

One thing that was brought to my notice was they don't customise food as per customers preference.. they have a set standard for every dish and they just follow it. This might just be the reason for a few disappointment.

The service was prompt and the staff had knowledge about the food being served..

A proper Tamilian restaurant in Hyderabad.......well sounds interesting and definitely worth trying as its' a brand altogether running in Tamil Nadu(Erode) since 1960.

Location- Opposite to Trident in hitec city, prime place with good visibility of signage.

Ambience- It can accommodate up to 100-120 people at once and its quite spacious with place to move around specially when its a buffet its necessary to avoid chaos. Well lit place and wooden furniture adding the modern and old age charm. Utterly neat and well maintained restaurant.

Food- Well the best part they offer both for non-vegetarians and vegetarians are not left out as they got really scrumptious dosa, idli and malabar parathas.

Starting with lemon juice with bit of sugar and squeeze of fresh lime in water which is really missing from Indian restaurants. It's refreshing and will give that appetising feel to make yourself ready to eat up your meal.

#Vanjivaram Fish - Sea fish fried and I should definitely eat it as hot as it lose its charm after getting cold. Worth trying for sea food lovers and who likes river fish or sweet water fish may not like.

#Nethilli Fish - Small fish fried in batter but the batter coat was quite on higher side which was overpowering the taste of fish. Or else its a munch snack item for sure.

#Kalakki - Its a egg dish between omelette and half boiled which will get finish in no time, with bit of pepper gives that extra zing to this starter or side dish.

#Mutton Soup - Well its too thin for a person who like Hydearbadi style mutton soup so I am definitely not gonna recommend this, but one can try to taste something different.

#Wheat Dosai - This was best and really good. Soft and tasty with freshly made batter and those accompaniments-sambar, coconut chutney, tomato chutney and curry gravy.

#Paneer Butter Gravy - Kind of twist in paneer butter masala and a savoir for veg lovers I feel..........:-) Nice usage of southern masala with that soft paneer makes this dish quite tasty, goes well with veech parota or malabar parota.

#Veg Kothu Paratha/Egg Kothu Paratha/Mutton Kottu Paratha - Its more like mixing up parota and eggs scrambled, vegetables or mutton as preferred by patrons. Quite a dish which makes your stomach full.

#Ghee Dosai - Crispy and laden with ghee, definitely worth ordering for all dosa lovers

#Erode Dosai - White, fluffy and perfect round, hot among us. Will come again for this Erode dosa for sure.

#Malabar Parota - Layered parota which is small in size but thick goes well with any gravy gives a buttery taste. One should try to get southern Tamil touch to your food.

#Veech Parotta - Flattened parota which is big in size and tastes very good

#Idly - Huge and soft like baby's cheek, looks super appealing and taste great. They don't add urad dal with rice batter hence looks quite white and slippery. Well taste very good.

#Mutton Nalli Fry - Succulent, properly spiced with chettinad masala gives this dish a thumbs up.

#Mutton Chukka - Boneless mutton chunks cooked well with spices and spice level is medium and its a good option for starter.

#Veg Biryani/Mutton biryani - For a person who loves Hydearabdi biryani which is aromatic, laden with spice and masala may not like this biryani as they dont use basamti rice and masala is too less or I would say none so it make the biryani very dry. So this one is definitely not hits my palate.

#Mushroom Chukka - This one was spicy but tastes equally good, great for mushroom lovers.

Desserts - Payasam & Gajar ka halwa

Well payasam could have been better as I felt it was bit undercooked, milk was very thin and semiyan was beneath the milk. Gajar ka halwa content with oodles of ghee and sugar which I definitely not like but yes my fellow foodies were enjoying this dessert.

Service - Staffs are very well informed about the dishes over here, very professional with smiling face. Keep up the good work.

Prices are very competitive, one must try to give your taste buds a different direction from Hyderabadi food. Well my favourites over here - Dosai(all types), malabar parota, mushroom chukka, paneer masala and mutton chukka.

Hotel Junior Kuppana was founded in the year 1960 with its first branch in Erode, Tamil Nadu. It serves Kongu Cuisine, cooked Tamil style with a hint of other South-Indian states influences such as Andhra and Karnataka. Majority of the outlets are QSR types and the one in Hyderabad located in Hitec-City falls under the category of Casual Dining. The interiors are spaciously done and the bright lights gives you a good first impression. Hostesses dressed in Pattu Sarees welcomes you wearing a genuine smile. The multi-coloured motif tiles flooring gives a whole new dimension to the aesthetics.

This cuisine particularly doesn’t easily convince our Hyderabadi’s palate. Unless and until you aren’t ready to experiment with your taste-buds, like swapping Roomali Roti with Veech Parotta, Laccha Parantha with Malabar, tomato-onion gravy with a punch of coconut, Hyderabadi Biryani with Kongu version, you would be highly disappointed visiting here.

When I glanced on the menu, I didn’t find it exciting for Vegetarians. Who would want to feast on Chinese preparations in a South-Indian Restaurant? I was looking forward to taste the popular “Vegetable Korma” but was shocked to know it isn’t part of their Menu.

The soups could be avoided here but choose “Sweet Corn Veg” over “Tomato Shorba” if you generally start your meal with a Soup. Chilly Paneer dusted with masala was luscious as possible but resting in a pool of oil didn’t appear enticing and definitely not for the faint hearted.

The sight of various types of flaky and soft Parotta will make you scream in joy, but when you take a closer look, the excessive oil shining all over would immediately make you calorie conscious. I understand it is tawa-fried with a little drizzle of oil, however pairing it with Tamil Nadu styled Paneer Butter Masala with too much oil again was not a welcoming affair. I tasted “Kothu Parotta” (minced Malabar Parotta sautéed with spices and veggies) for the first time and found it to be bland. Later I was told that it is supposed to be eaten along with Gravy which I completely missed.

Biryani not much appealing to eyes had a rich, distinctive may be over-powering hit of Coconut. Totally different take from the classic Hyderabadi and Lucknowi versions. I mixed the yummy gravy of Paneer Curry to balance the taste and still didn’t find it appetising.

The Idly and Dosa’s served with Chutneys, Sambar and a Gravy saved us like a knight in a shining armour. The soft and fair Erode Dosa, the crispy Ghee roast Dosa, and wheat Dosa (unsweetened version of Pan-cakes) all in a courteous manner made up for the oil laden food. The chutneys prepared from fresh coconut was a whiff of fresh air.

We didn’t expect anything delicious on the Desserts front but “Gajar ka Halwa” surprised us in every possible way. Probably the only dish where the excessive Ghee floored us. Cold Milk Payasam was thin and watery with excessive usage of Cardamom for flavouring.

Naresh – the humble Manager explained us how 3 types of oil, “Coconut, Peanut, and Refined” is used in various stages of cooking and how the excessive oil content is part of the flavour profile. Their USP lies in the standard recipes. For every dish there is a set of pre-packed sachets of spices and ingredients so customizing a dish is out of scope. While it may ease their operations but it may not go well with the diners.

The staff is quick and well-informed. Pricing is impressive for the ambience and location. If I visit again, it would be for their “Idly and Dosas” and may be “Parottas” too with Paneer Butter Masala provided they use less oil.

I went to this place in the very beginning when it was opened and was real impressed by their Thali...but after a few months when I went again I dint like it so much...this happens with many restaurants and should be not be reason to rule out though. Overall a good place

Name is intriguing. Typical south Indian cuisine restaurant. Ambience is decent and food is traditional. Served in banana leaf. Moderate prices with very moderate quantity is served à la carte. Buffet is quite a deal for non vegetarians with ample variety items like fish, chicken etc., Decent place for south Indian style food.

Dinner at Junior Kupanna. Delicious fare and medium spice. We had Vanjaram fry and chicken chukka for starters. Malabar parotta with prawns fry and bheja fry. Chittimutyalu biryani (hope I got that right) which comes with accompaniment of raita and an egg. Carrot halwa; pot kulfi and sheer khurma for dessert. Good fare.

If you are a fan of Kongu Nadu (north Tamil Nadu) then this place is a definite go. Awesome south Indian food . The biriyani uses seeraga samba rice which adds a fantastic flavour and very different to the Hyderabadi biriyani. Customers should known the non veg meal only has non veg gravy and does not contain pieces of meat Spacious ambience, ample seating and no waiting on a Sunday afternoon

The one place where you can taste Tamil food is here. As said by most of the reviewers, the quantity is very less but the taste of the food is excellent. The ambiance is good as well. The hotel is very big as it can seat a good number of guests. Parking is problem less as it had valet parking.

Had Non-Veg spl thaali. Overall very satisfied. Fish varieties are too good. No other restaurant near by can match its taste. Authentic Tamil tastes. Chicken and Mutton curries could have been a bit more spicier to match with Tamil Spicy variety.

Very good, authentic south Indian food with an emphasis on non vegetarian dishes. Absolutely brilliant value for money in the lunch buffet at Rs. 589 all inclusive. Attentive but unobtrusive service. Will come back again and again!

Visited at lunch and had the veg and non veg Thali. Very good choices and tasty food. Nice ambience. Service was generally good buy can be inattentive at times as a Thali needs regular refills etc ,also local language seemed to be an issue with the staff at times . All in all great good....Some work on the device maybe be a good thing

One of the best places for those who crave South India cuisine. Good food and ambience. Staff is friendly and helpful. The cost is moderate but worth having food here. And the rice used for cooking Biryanis is not Basmati here but they use something organic and it tastes really good. Usually restaurants focus more on chicken dishes and in here you can have tasty variety in mutton dishes as well. Nally fry and brain fry are delicious, mutton biryani is tasty. Sea food is not upto the mark. Desserts are good as well.

Place has unique Tamil nadu style cuisine. It's really good but may not be for everybody. A little bit pricey compared to the portions that are served.

Food good, ambience nice for foodies but not for disco enthusiast. Service needs improvement in terms of time but largely ok. Recommend for people looking for nice south indian style food. Overall good and worth visiting. The welcoming lady was charming and helpful to find seats and services. Wish her all the best.
