What a lovely place.I like the atmosphere. A great place to relax and chill out with some best whiskey's. Highlands have beautiful Scottish ambiance. A must visit place for all the whiskey lovers. Definitely hope to go back.
The ambience of this place is something really nice . They serve the highest number of different types of whiskey from different parts of the world. The food menu is small but something very unique and interesting.
Excellent place to enjoy whiskeys. Must visit for all whisky aficionados . Good place to hang out in the afternoon . Not very full most times.
Disclaimer: Review based on invitation from the restaurant.
The Highlands is an exclusive bar and restaurant from the same team behind MOB – Hyderabad’s first Belgian beer bar. Housed in the same building as MOB, The Highlands hopes to do for whisky what MOB did for beers. The Highlands impresses you the moment you step in. The decor is decidedly old-school with metal and wood panelling, leather sofas, and mounted trophies. The restaurant exudes a sense of class and elegance, and it’s apparent that a lot of effort was put behind every element. Scotland has five whisky regions; each having its own traditions and distinctive flavours. The Highlands features single malts from the top three of these regions and offers you a rare opportunity to explore Scottland through its single malts. My personal favourites are the malts from Islay. Islay is a tiny island on the western coast of Scottland whose malts are known for their smoky characteristic that’s a reflection of both the peating process and the water of the region. Among the brands available at retail stores in Hyderabad, Laphroaig is my favourite. However, The Highlands usually stocks a couple of more gems from the region – Caol Ila and Lagavulin. The latter is known for its intense levels of peat derived smokiness but was unavailable on the day. So I picked Caol Ila, which offers a delightful balance of sweet and smoke. The Caol Ila is am amazing single malt that’s actually a pretty good way to get into Islay whiskies. The Highlands has distinctive glasses for the different varieties of single malts including Glencairn and Copita. Although Highlands is all about single malts, it also features other spirits. The menu includes cocktails, shots, as well as a selection of scotch, wine, tequila, cognac, vodka, and rum.
The food menu at The Highlands features a range of global starters that work well as pub eats as well as full-fledged main courses and desserts. We started off with a serving of Jalapeno Cheese Poppers, a simple and almost ubiquitous bar food that was rendered perfectly. The BBQ Chicken that followed also impressed owing to the hint of charring that imparted a smoky flavour. The Chicken Strips proved to be a rare miss – some of the cuts were too thin and resulted in the strips becoming crispy like a papadum. Food kept coming thick and fast through the night. The Cilantro Fish proved to be quite popular around the table thanks to its excellent marinade. The Gratinated Broccoli – slightly crunchy pieces of broccoli served up on a bed of cheese, was a surprise. I really didn’t expect to fall in love with Broccoli, but I did. The Grilled Chicken Stripes were probably the best among the chicken starters that were offered to us – perfectly grilled, tender strips of chicken that paired nicely with the whisky thanks to its mild flavour profile. The spicy Dragon Prawns work well as an appetiser but are a poor fit for the single malts. My preferred companion for single malts – Cheese, was surprisingly absent. A cheese platter is something that I’d definitely love to see on the menu. A selection of cold cuts such as ham and salami also might work quite well.
The Highlands Whisky Club offers a unique and unparalleled experience. It presents city of Nizams an opportunity to enjoy Single Malts at a venue that’s tailor-made for the experience. It’s the perfect spot for those who prefer to lazily enjoy their drinks, engrossed in conversations. Whether you’re a single malt and scotch lover or are looking to just dip your toes into the world of malts, The Highlands merits a try.

Let alone Hyderabad, the concept of a whisky club is not very popular in India, However the scenario in the twin city is slowly changing. In the midst of current rage of micro-breweries and gastro pubs, the city’s first whisky club The Highlands provides an exclusive experience to the connoisseurs of whisky with handpicked single malts, cigars and great food.
Tucked in a by lane of Jubilee Hills, the club is in the same building as Ministry of Beer. In fact, the owners here are also partners at MOB. As you enter the premises, you are impressed by the rich décor of wood paneling and thick and comfortable leather upholstery and a well-stocked bar. There is separate seating for smokers where you can enjoy your drinks with the exclusive cigars available.
The Highlands Whisky Club is named after Scottish Highlands, the region in Scotland which is known for its large number of distilleries dishing out the signature brands of single malts and blended scotch well-known all over the world. The bar and restaurant has an air of exclusivity and welcomes people with finer tastes. Available with the global brands of whiskies is a menu of international cuisine to pair with.
Invited for a tasting session of pairing food with whisky, a few of us had a look at the richly stocked bar. It had close to fifty different labels, starting from Laphroaig, Dalwhinnie, Cardhu and Talisker, to the popular single malts like Glenfiddich and Glenlivet as well as blended scotch brands JW Double Black and Blue Label. In case your partner or friend is not a whisky drinker, select wines and other alcohol were also available. The bar has perhaps the most exceptional collection of whisky in the twin cities.
As we settled down in the non-smoking area, we were asked about our choice of single malts, and I decided to start with Talisker 10 years. The whisky from the Island area was served in frosted glasses, and we were told that all their glasses are imported from Belgium.
To pair with the drink, there was an assortment of short eats. Jalapeno Cheese Poppers were served with chilly mayo and veggies. Soft and melt in the mouth, the cheesy starter was a perfect foil with the whisky.
Grilled Chicken Stripes were another of my favourites. The herb marinated chicken pieces were soft and succulent and I especially loved the brownish dip served with it. The crumb fried Crunchy Chicken served with Tartar Sauce was thinner than usual, a little bit of more meat would have enhanced the taste.
At this point, the next drink was served. This was Cardhu 12 years from a Speyside distillery of the same name. Along with this came some Gratinated Broccoli, a cheesy dish well suited as an accompaniment.
Cilantro Fish is a must have at The Highlands. The grilled fish fillets had soaked in the green marinade, and tasted very nice. Dragon Prawns was another seafood dish served, which may be a choice for lovers of Asian preparations.
It was time for the main courses. Mr Chalapathi, one of the partners suggested Caol Ila 12 years for the pairing here. The food paired with it was Chicken Lasagna served with garlic bread, and this was simply brilliant.
Grilled Rosemary Lamb Chops was an impressive dish from the mains. The herbed lamb chops in red wine jus was served with mashed potatoes and assorted vegetables. The meat had been cooked just the right amount and the sauce was a complete winner.
The Highlands also serves pizzas and pastas. The BBQ Chicken Pizza was oval shaped and thin crust. I dug into it without much expectations, but was surprised to find it extremely delicious. We also tried an oriental dish, Chef’s Signature Fried Rice.
At this point, couple of my friends shifted to the smoking area enjoying some Armentros Cigars with their drinks.
The dessert Platter of Blueberry Cheesecake and Chocolate Lava Cake were fitting finale to an interesting session.
The Highlands has special offers from time to time. An exciting offer which is currently on is the Scotch Platter (Rs 950 plus taxes) and Single Malt Platter (Rs 1200 plus taxes). In this offer you can order 3 pegs of your favourite Scotch and Single Malt whisky respectively from a list of five different brands. On Saturday and Sunday, they have a High Lunch combo at Rs 699 (plus taxes) serving one drink, an appetizer and a main course.
This is an excellent place for the whisky aficionados with the huge choice of signature brands. The drinks and food here are not that expensive either, competing favourably with the gastro pubs in the city. The food here lives up to the promise. Try it for a relaxed discussion with your connoisseur friend or to entertain your business partner or clients.
Visit my chronicles at:
Mark Twain once said “Too much of something is bad, but too much of good whisky is barely enough.” I understood this after I was invited to Highlands Whisky Club. The place is tucked in a quaint street ahead of Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills. The moment you exit the lift of the building you will see a massive circular metal gate which marks the entry of this affordable luxurious restaurant. As soon as one enters this place s/he might think they have arrived in life. This place emanate the oomph and the class. The cutlery, the upholstery, the menu, everything is just classy.
As the name suggests this place is all about Whisky. The collection of Whisky is huge and some of them are available only at Highlands. During our entire course of dinner, I had had around 5-6 pegs of whisky and all tasted different unlike the notion of every Whisky tastes similar. The first one that I ordered was Cardhu which was 12 years old. This was smooth and subtle.
Coming to the food, dishes kept on arriving and we were trying them out slowly but steadily. First came the Jalapeño Cheese Poppers. Crispy from outside and cheesy from inside, this was the perfect start to our meal.
Barbecue Chicken: While we were munching on our poppers, we were served with BBQ Chicken. Boneless Chicken tossed in BBQ sauce was smoky but not smoky enough for me. It was okay, not great.
Crispy Chicken: Personally I loved this. Thinly cut chicken dipped in the batter and deep fried with bread crumbs was a delight. The flavor of batter overpowered the chicken. If that issue is taken care of by just slicing the chicken a little thicker than it was served to us, it would have made it perfect.
Cilantro Fish: Cilantro Fish is one of my favorite fish dish and yet again I was not disappointed at Highlands. It was steamed well and this dish retained the flavor of fish till the end. It wasn’t overpowered with spices. Very good dish.
By now we had already asked the waiter to refill our drinks and this time I was served Talisker, 10 years. Talisker was smoky and stronger than Cardhu. If you like smoky drink, go for this without giving it a second thought.
Dragon Prawns: Prawns in sweet chili sauce is always a good combination. It was tasty, crunchy and I enjoyed it with my drink. Prawn lovers should definitely try it out.
Gratinated Broccoli: This was one of the most appealing Broccoli dish ever. It wasn’t on a skewer, it was plated neatly on a flat dish. The broccoli was crispy and cheesy.
Crispy Chili Water Chestnuts: Water chest nuts tossed in spicy, tangy sauce was good till we ate it hot. Once it went cold, it was not at all appealing. So the trick is to finish it up before it goes cold.
Grilled Chicken Stripes: Since the first two chicken starters were just about okay, the owner had asked the chef to serve us one more chicken starter. Tender chicken stripes tasted good. If you are a health freak, this dish is for you. Tasty bhi, healthy bhi.
It was time for another refill and this time it was Caol Ila, 12 years. This was my second favorite of the night. After couple of pegs, this was setting the mood for the main course.
Chicken Lasagna: Lasagna, as we all know, is a flat shaped Pasta baked with cheese in the sauce of our choice. At Highlands the Lasagna was in Alfredo sauce. The texture of this was smooth, creamy and it had a good flavor of garlic. Very good dish!
Chicken Fried Rice with Chicken Manchurian: Oh my God. This fried rice was cooked so well that each grain of rice could be separated from each other. It was neither undercooked nor overcooked. It had perfect amount of soy sauce and vinegar that complemented the curry. Curry was hot and spicy.
Mutton Chops: I was eagerly waiting for this dish but this was the least impressive dish of all. Mutton was chewy and lacked the flavors. It could’ve been much much better.
Barbecue Pizza: This was the last dish that we tried (desserts excluded) and this was super tasty. Freshly kneaded, crispy thin base with barbecued chicken and veggies with proper amount of cheese was the fitting end to our dinner. Though I could eat only one slice, I regret not having enough of this Pizza.
Before the entry of our desserts we had one more drink with Cigar this time. Highlands has a special section that is a smoking zone where you can enjoy your food while having a smoke as that place has special high exhaust ventilators. And if you didn’t get that in the first place that this restaurant is classy, let Cigar explain it to you. Sourced specially from Dominic Republic and Cuba, you know they have a great collection of Cigars too. Along with a fellow foodie, I tried the Cigar. It was super strong and I started coughing in the beginning. Eventually I got acquainted to it and enjoyed it till the end.
Single malt is one of the best partners of Cigar and I asked for an Isle of Jura, 16 years old. I was saving this for the last because this was one of the oldest single malts available with them. They had Talisker which is 30 years old which is practically older than me. I got intimidated and ordered Isle of Jura. This drink smelt of sophistication. It was smooth yet had a richness in the taste. Loved it.
After finishing the cigar and drink, we were served the two desserts that they have on their menu.
Blueberry Cheesecake: This was not the baked cheesecake but it was a set cheesecake. It was obviously refrigerated but tasted good. It was creamy and the blueberry compote was balanced. Most of the places, set cheesecake has the tartness and is a little acidic. It is kind of off-putting but this wasn’t of the same category. It tasted fresh and non acidic.
Chocolate Lava Cake: The lava from this cake didn’t ooze out as expected. Maybe it was a smaller lava :p The taste was rich and the texture was less gooey than expected. Was a little dry and flat. Tasted like regular chocolate cake which tasted well with ice cream.
In short, they need to have more options in their desserts section. Overall, food is very good. The place is NOT at all expensive as it might seem to be. With the amazing collection of Single Malts and Cigars, many people will soon make it their adda. It is surprising how people do not know about this place. Once they get to know about this place it will be hard to get a table at this place.
They have got amazing Whisky Platters too. The platter of 3 pegs of Scotch costs only 950+ taxes whereas the platter of 3 pegs of Single Malt costs only 1200+ taxes. It is the best deal one could think of in terms of Whisky and the kind of collection Highlands has got.
Every Saturday and Sunday they have a special combo deal for Rs. 699 which gives you an option to choose a drink of your choice, 1 appetizer and 1 main course. Head to Highlands Whisky Club to have a great time.

A great to place to relax, unwind and have some of the best whiskeys. Highlands has a beautiful Scottish ambiance. The collection of whiskeys behind the bar is very very tempting. A must visit for all the whiskey lovers
What a wonderful place, The Highlands. Hidden away from the cacophony and discomfort of the city, The Highlands is a place where one can have a great meal, coupled with some one of the finest whiskies from the isles of Scotland.
The ambiance, the upholstery and the lighting of the place sets the perfect mood for one to blend and enjoy conversations. PS : Don't miss the single malt platter.
At The Highlands Whiskey Club rocks with perfect ambience music and bar. Noor Allam as manager and Sudheer at Bar perfect Team I can say. Loved being there. Will recommend this place.
Super, super, super good place. Great folks to hang out with. Sudhir, Noor Alam are great hosts. Am coming back here for sure each time I visit this city...
Amazing place brilliantly done interiors beautiful glasses to serve liquor, So much of efforts taken to even take care of the intricate details to just that scottish feel for the customer!
A lovely place to come and get high!
Been to this place recently, I Have to tell you that I had the best time with friends after a long time. Simply like this place because of the superb ambience and we were really treated well. A BIG THUMBS UP.
Alrighty..!
As the name suggest its a club for a very specific group of people. But I would definitely give a shout out to the place for a place to 'relax'
My Scorecard:
Taste: So the collection in the bar would make sure your jaws hit the floor. All good names. All the nice colours. A bit of theatre of having the drink in a frosted glass, again, thats your choice.
Ambience: Very good. Huge comfy chairs. Relaxed decor. I even peeked into a secluded area which looks like someone's study. :)
Service: Good. Very courteous servers and bartender.
Value for money: Well good things come at a prices till 7/10
PS:
> The next door neighbour (MOB) is also owned by the same visionary. :D
A great place for the serious people who just want to try Single Malts and magnificent drinks. Price is high and there are no offers available at any time. If you want to burst into laughter and enjoy loud conversation this wont be a great place.
Calm and Serene atmosphere and the architecture resembles Old Scottish look with the Deer decor on walls and the beautiful light hangings.
Service was prompt and great!!!
Perfect ambience. Excellent food. One of the few places in the city which has great food and a themed ambience. Very underrated. The grilled fish and the carribean chicken deserve a special mention.
I went there on a Saturday night looking for a place to enjoy a drink and enjoy a quiet conversation with my wife. The Highlands Whisky Club exceeded our expectations in terms of the drinks, food, ambience as well as service!
The background music was good, but not intrusive. The chicken and fish appetizers we ordered were well cooked and delicious. The Whisky Sours we had were well made - and though the bill was slightly on the higher side, I believe it was well worth it.
The place is definitely for whiskey men and not for beer boys. The place has huge collection of single marts and whiskeys. Food is very much similar to what you get in mob pepper chicken is my favourite to goo well with drinks.
Nice whiskey and cigar place ambience-wise. Perhaps the only one of its kind in Hyderabad.
Needs a wider spread of malts though. Also, overpriced - one double shot of Laguvalin16 will cost you 2200 where the entire bottle will cost you 6000 at a duty free. My experience with food wasn't great cuz everything tasted too salty. High points only for the novelty in Hyd.
Its an amazing place if you love antique classics and whishky. The food is amazing! The pepper chicken is different than usual and a dish made out of mushroom is very tasty as well. You all should try out this new place.
This place is really different . Caters to a specific crowd. U would love this place if u love single malt/ scotch. Otherwise it will be boring. If U love beer , if u love crowd , loud music then better stay away.
Love whisky then it's the right place.
Lovely place. Treat for the single malt lovers. Taliskar, singleton, glenfidic........ Lust goes on. I tried the classic whisky sour cocktail and it was out of the world. Food is tasty and should try the chicken exotic and florentine mushroom. The pizza for the main course was very Italian.
Overall great ambiance, good food and wide range of drinks.
Feels like in Scotland. Woods everywhere.
Tried few single malts and cardhu was the best.
Ordered cilantro fish and it was good.
Over all must visit.
The Highlands, adjacent to MOB in Filmnagar.
Place has some very comfortable seating with antique chandeliers. Single malt collection is not all great but the food is mind blowing.
Try the Cuban cigars for sure. Cigars & single malt paired with good food was a complete evening
Been to this place the highlands in jubilee hills. Place looks awesome. Try the jalepeno poppers and the taliskar single malt. ....................................
Has the best selection of single malts in the city that's well complemented by a vintage, upscale ambiance and a selection of Cigars.
Calm, peaceful and quite. Good range of alcohol avaliable too!
