Only place in Kargil with working WiFi, good coffee, and people who know Ladakh like the back of their hands. Not just the peripheries, they've delved deep and if it's adventure you seek, they are the only help you need. They always lend their ears to any enquiry, big or small. I especially enjoyed some precious time rafting in the river Dras. If you are tired of meandering pointlessly in the maze of mystical streets, and of clicking pictures with Ladakhi children who trail you like a herd in the meadows, and of talking to the friendly fruitsellers, you can find some solitude at the cafe with a cup of Kahwa. And if that tires you, you can break bread with some of the fantastic travellers you're bound to run into at the cafe.
The cafe itself was a treasure trove of an amazing collection of books that kept me busy while I gorged on all the gorgeous Ladakhi food from the kitchen. The apricot shake and Azhoq deserve special mention methinks.
The only bad thing - is that you will hate yourself when you leave like I do! Thank you for everything you guys :)
This always will be my go to place in Ladakh now. Can't wait to get back!
Roots made my time in Kargil unforgettable! This place was my second living room and the guys my ladakhi family! if you like the find a place feeling totally relaxed and having laugh cramps in the same time, then you have to go to roots travell cafe!

Do visit them when in Kargil.
Amazing place awesome people ..
Was stuck in Kargil for 2 days and this is the place I used to visit and stay there for whole day.. sit there sip coffee talk to nice people.. also had a chance to look into their work .. really impressed.. it was a nice time.. thank you!
They explore the places of Ladakh which where unexplored from the world.
It has been a month today..but my mind is still residing in those tranquil valleys, whenever I close my eyes I see those majestic mountains..I imagine myself walking in those narrow lanes of Turtuk! The taste of Firni and the aroma of Kawah still lingers on my tongue! The orange colour reminds me of the fresh apricots I ate and the juices spilled in my mouth! Those beautiful faces of the people which looked more beautiful when said “Julley”..I can still feel butterflies in my stomach I had felt while cycling down swinging on the roads of Suru valley! The first look of the florescent green coloured tents, Tafazzul’s guitar..Nissar’s philosophy of life..and the whole Roots Ladakh Team..Everything is still alive!! I can’t thank you enough for such a wonderful experience you provided to us. I am deeply touched by the hospitality and experience I could get only because of you! It’s your passion that took me to the core of Kargil..!
Keep the spirit on! And wish you all the best
Roots ladakh is the best....................................
Superb superb superb innovative innovative innovative
It was a great trip with u guys ........ enjoyed , explored kargil...... most memorable trip of my life ...... hope to see u all soon ..... #keeponexploring
We did an amazing trek in the Suru Valley, all perfectly organized by the Roots Travel. Muzammil was always very helpful, providing all information and details (we booked remotely from Italy). The expedition was a great experience: magnificent scenarios and mountain views, great accomodation in homestay and camping, delicious food cooked with local products, well-planned itinerary. Our guide Nissu was super: longstandig expertise, nice and always taking care of us.
Definitely recommended!!!
Very genuine and helpful travel agency in Kargil. They will provide you customise support for your travel around zanskar and leh Ladakh.
Amazing place to hang out while traveling to ladhak! This place gives you brilliant food with too positive vibes! Readers can enjoy as there are plenty of books! If traveling with kids you have games for them as well
Close to end of the main market in Kargil, this small cafe serves good food. Not too many options on the menu list, but what we had was really good. Very pretty sitting arrangement, lots of books, ample natural light, and very helpful management.
Limited selection of food and drinks, more for a snack.. but it's a lovely space with natural light, books, games,etc.. really nice people who are doing interesting positive things in Kargil and are cool to talk to. Probably the coolest place to hang out in Kargil.
This place was a saving grace in Kargil. We Spent a night in Kargil (en route from Leh to Srinagar) and the city was so disappointing! Absolutely no restaurants or cafes..just some very doubtful street food! The only tourist attraction around (a museum) was completely abandoned.
But then we happened upon this cafe and stayed there all evening. They make a good expresso! And really nice food. There are plently of travel books (check out the updated lonely planet guide) to while away your time. Make sure to ask the staff for travel tips. They were incredibly helpful and nice enough to help us plan our next few days (for no cost!).
If you stay in Kargil, or are passing through, this is really your best (and only) option!
Met the owner Mr. Sajatbhai Hussain(Mr.Bob)
Amazing person. Had a nice interactive session.
By passion he is a teacher that was interesting to know. Being a local person he was instrumental in introducing us to Leh and Ladakh.
This was the only restaurant we visited in kargil area and we were taken over by the coziness of this place.
Even though we came in the midst of renovation work, owner made us feel welcome and even got some of the food items delivered from nearby restaurant.
Place has Kashmiri style sofas for sit-in dining experience and Asia a good view of nearby market area. One can spend the time waiting for food by browsing through books collection or attempting to solve a rifle to get WiFi password !
This is a trendy place and youngsters will like it more than family travelers.
The guys at Roots are in a class of their own. Doing insanely good work to bring to life the tourism scene in Kargil. The cafe itself is really nice and cozy and although I didnt have anything to eat there, the menu looked pretty good
