years back tried kayees and i would like to say it's one of the unique biriyani, you should try mutton , no idea about chicken and others. make sure that shop is not closed , they are closing in the occasion of ramzan.
Kayees biriyani has a unique taste.
Let's just say that the mutton biryani you get here is one of the best in town. I've only tried the chicken biryani, mutton biryani and the beef with porotta, the couple of times I've visited and they're hands down, the very best.
Great food....I had ordered chicken biriyani. It was a perfect dum biriyani and chicken pieces were good. You will feel an unique taste which others don't have. One of the top 5 biriyani spots in Cochin now.
This place serves the best briyani. My personal favorite is the chicken briyani.. The dates pickles served along with it is equally. It gets crowded during lunch hours especially during weekends.
During my visit to kerala my local guide has suggested to have lunch here. Its really nice experience here, A simple kerala restaurant with authentic taste. We have ordered mutton biryani, mutton roast and chapati. The food was nice balance and not very much different to my taste buds but can feel uniqueness in it. Biryani was prepare in pure ghee also mutton was fresh n tender. The person has told us reason because they have there own farm for it.
Food here is not too costly its in budget what offer good in price.
Will surely suggest my people who will visit kochi.. ❤️ Love from maharashtra
This shop near TDM hall. One my favourite for biriyani. Though quantity is little less but taste is very good. I had mutton dum biriyani which was absolutely lip smacking
Famous for their biriyani...we ordered mutton biriyani but unfortunately it was over since we came around late afternoon...so had to be happy with chicken biriyani which was great ! A mutton roast was also ordered which tasted out of the world
Mutton Biriyani...Don’t even bother with the menu..The best biriyani in Kochi and joint best along with Hotel Rahmath Calicut in Kerala in my opinion..Ambience is normal, not luxury or posh and the place is always full...But all Biriyani lovers must visit..Its an absolute delight..
The mutton biriyani was really nice coming from Hyderabad I was happy to eat it here it matched the hyderabad biriyani def need to try the mutton roast too !
Absolutely divine place for a simple home style biryani. ...love their chicken and fish biryani. ..very affordable prices. ..don't miss this place if you love biryani.
During our stay in Ernakulam, a lot of people asked us ....Have you tried the kayees biriyani yet? Friends insisted on giving this place a try and the review didn't differ either.
One evening we headed out, all prepared to battle out the crowd, the rain all for the kayikina biriyani ( that's what the lockals call it... Hope I got it right).
We reached at 930. To our surprise, all the seats were empty. We got quick attention and a great service too. The place was also kept clean. Without much ado we ordered the chicken biryani. Although the thing to try here is their mutton biryani.
It came on our table with a raita, a sweet, spicy and sour date pickle and another lime pickle.
The flavours were well balanced and light. Didn't feel full like you usually do at a restaurant. I could easily eat another plate.
The biryani although good in flavour, it was not a thing I had never tried before ... Felt the place is overhyped. But one must definitely try this to understand what real biryani feels like.
Light in your tummy and flavorful in your mouth.
My friend took me to this restaurant which is famous for biryanis. I had vegetarian biryani here. I can say that it is the best biryani, I ever had till date.
Tried the biriyani during the last vacation . If you are a biriyani lover and happens to be in kochi never ever miss there biriyani . Just one word awesome .the place is always crowded , take away options also available .
Best biriyani in Kochi. Rate s affordable. No delay for food. Good ambience. Service is good. All together a good place to have food. Only issue is the rush, which obviously is because of the quality of food..😊
They serves one of the best biriyanis available in town. And yes, tastes good. Portion quantities are good. At lunch hours, you will need to wait for your turn to get your chairs. Downside is they don't accept cards. But there is an ATM after 2 buildings.
Restaurant doesn't serve many dishes but it does well with the Malabar biriyani and Chicken Fry.. The restaurant is perhaps the best known biriyani restaurant in Kochi.
Traditional flavour of mattachery Briyanis will get it here....visited thrice but only cons is no card payment. Always need to carry cash. Rest of that is OK.
Great place to have biriyani . Good food, average service. The restaurant is pretty small, has no parking space. But all this is worth for the awesome biriyani they have, its so good.
Edit- This review is for their Fort Kochi outlet.
Kayikkas biriyani.... that name denotes how much the common people loves the biriyani of kayees hotel...good Ambience...went there with my family and orderded chicken and mutton biriyani...heavenly taste...good service..keep up the good work
Oh god! I could even remember the time that i finished that mutton biriyani... That was the least time i took for finish that. Its difficult to find out the place.
But i recommend its a 'should have ' biriyani for a middle keralite or anyone visiting kochi.
Tried the famous kayikkas biriyani and it was really yummy. The quantity was good and really liked the dates pickle. The biggest turned down was that they don't accept cards still. Then i had to ask my friend to pay for me.
Visited this place with a lot of expectation the famous "Kayikkante Biriyani", heard a lot about this place from my friends There is big rush we have to take the token and wait. To be very honest biryani is not that great, it's Average, dates pickle served along with biriyani is good, v also ordered parothas n chicken chilli, chicken fry n chicken roast which was good.
Biryani is one thing which I am never fed up eating.. So, I was sure not to miss the popular Kayikka's biryani.
The place is crowded whenever I've been. Felt that the wait it worth. Ambience is just ok.
Anyways, do try Kayees Biryani with the mutton liver roast. Yum😊
If u r staying in Kochi and u have not been to this place , seriously u r missing one of the best briyanis u will ever have in ur life. In such rates , this is the best briyani I had till now in Kerala 😃
Good briyani but not that spicy and people coming from different places may feel different but their side dish for briyani was awesome and very different
Too hot biryani but still very good. I had to order 1 veg and 1 chicken. Veg is alright but chicken is better. It comes with tamarind chutney so those who're accustomed to have biriyani with raita will have to order it separately.
Being a biriyani lover, kayees wasnt my first choice a few months back but now the taste which was long lost is back and i cant be more happy about it but just visit this place and have chicken or mutton biriyani! The best biriyani spot in town! Be there by or before 7:30 pm as biriyani goes out of stock by that time :D
Great biriyani experience. Weekends are packed affairs... geting a table may get tricky. But the wait is worth it given the grrat biriyani at offer... be it mutton or chicken. Service is quick and efficient, but lacks any finesse, if u r looking for any!! Place could have been kept cleaner...! Or it would be a 4.5...
One of the best biriyani place in kochi. Found chicken biriyani much better than the recommended mutton biriyani here. The dates and lime pickle provided along with dum biriyani is very good. Keep the flavours
One of the best biriyani...and final word for biriyani if your in the town, but all other items score average..and same time affordable.....
Arrived late, they ran out of Biryanis. Had Patiri and Chicken masala. Nothing to complain about. Clean restaurant and good food.
Its good if you are looking for very casual dining.
Will be back for biryanis soon.
Biryani here used to be the best in Kochi once upon a time. Still good but lost the great status. Mutton Biryani is my favourite. I'd recommend 1 and a half servings for someone with an appetite like mine. Food worth the money!
I love Biriyani. This is a must go place for Biriyani lovers. Their pricing is a bit high but the taste conquers everything and keep us wanting for more.

The soft & succulent mutton biriyani with dates pickle and the salad! Trust me that's like heaven in a plate 😃 l so badly miss kaayika's biriyani here in Bangalore. The secret is in the minimal spices and the dum ! A must try at Cochin you will definitely love it 😍
I had an exam at Maharaja's, last day. And for lunch, i chose this place. First impression, the place was clean, good ambiance. If it evening, perfect lighting too (cuz this one has natural lighting). Service is good too. BUT, its not hygienic, when you have the washroom wide open, next to the dinning area. This part requires an upgrade. I made up my mind to have a CHICKEN FRIED RICE. It both looked and tasted well, also its flavor was good. It was really great, except for the washroom part, everything is right and awesome.
In the bottom line, i do recommend this hotel, cuz i liked the ambiance and flavour.
Read a lot about this place on Zomato so it was on my must visit list, tried the biryani' (chicken, mutton and fish) having eaten kerala style biryani I can definitely say this is just 'above average' fare. Less spicy but quite flavorful, the chicken was the best of the lot, mutton and fish the pieces could have been better. They serve it with 2 kinds of chutneys / pickle which made no difference to me would have preferred some gravy or raita. Fish fry was fresh but had something missing loved the chicken roast though. Was really crowded so had to order a take away, portion size is quite OK and economically priced so definitely value for money.

The magic has somewhat lessened. The chicken biryani is any day better than the Mutton biryani.
Do not expect Raitha with the biryani. What you would get is lime pickle, dates pickle and onions in brine.
The old taste does not remain anymore. The biryani is sometimes quite bland.
Should admit this is the best Biriyani you will ever get in Kochi. Kayees serves one of the finest Biriyanis in town. I had been there a couple of times and eveiry time the place was so crowded and we ended up waiting for about half an hour to get a place to sit, but who cares its Kayees Biriyani :) Their mutton Biriyani is very royal in taste, not so spicy, well cooked mutton pieces and with aromatic rice. Their side dish is quiet unique and also their dates pickle complements the tasty Biriyani. So all you people who visit Kochi, Kayees is a must try. :)
Kayees Biriyani It's Good one. Specially I Like The Kayees Mutton Biriyani. It's Nice Taste... Well done...Everything Soooo Good... I like It...
One stop shop for all your hunger needs (especially non veg) thats what all about i can say about kayees.. I never miss a chance to visit kayees during my cochin trip.
Kayees is one of the oldest and most traditional biriyani servers in cochin. But these days the quality of the biriyani they serve has come down. Kayees is Mattancherry provides much better biriyani than here. There's always a huge waiting line to get into this place during leak hours.
Well have heard a lot about this place. I have personally been to their maatanchery outlet and i didn't like it thar much.Same story continues at this outlet as well. The biriyani is good but nothing wow about it as people claim this place to be.Well just another biriyani place who is overated.
Went here only one time in my vacation on 2011. And in 2013 i managed to get a parcel from there.
I would say a must have biriyani for all.
I remeber we returned from their mattanchery branch and went to the town branch. All was crowded. Want to go there again in one day.
The photos i posted here is the comments of kerala film stars about the biriyani.
Great tasting biriyani's with quality and consistency throughout. Always a returning customer to kayee's when in kochi. Spacious and airy ambiance.
with 3 generations of Biryani making experience they are doing something right! Traditional Malabari style biryani is what they are known for. Chicken Biryani with soft pieces of chicken and aromatic rice. but you know what i have had better Biryani. its definitely a try as they have been doing this a long time. service could be improved but i care more about food :)
Dont go with a lot of expectations wit d name , u may get disappointed.. U'll get tastier biriyani at lower prices from other places.. Its better than average for sure ..
I hav get a chance to visit the hotel couple of times. Biriyani is normal, don't go there with a heavy expectation, It's plain, not too spicy thats all.
And about the hotel, the wash room need bit more cleanliness.
Biriyani. Love the biriyani here. Its plain simple and just right. Not too spicy and full of masala. Other dishes r good too. But lacks a relaxed ambiance.
After landing in Cochin, I knew that I had to try out some
of the local food as well as the famous hidden treasures which Kochi had to
offer. Being brought up in Hyderabad, I always loved Biryani and I wanted to
try out the authentic Malabari Biryani. On inquiring with my family all roads
lead to one place if we want to have Malabari biryani. That place is none other
than Kayees. Kayikka (Kayee Elder Brother) a family that has been making biryani
for the past 3 generations have opened one of their outlets on the Durbar Hall
Road opposite to the Ernakulam Temple.
I visited this place for dinner with my wife last night. On
having a look at the restaurant from outside, this was a nice large home that
was converted into a restaurant. The ambiance screamed authentic Kerala, with
clay tiles as the roof. The restaurant was divided into 2 sections. The Ground
floor was the non ac seating and the first floor was air conditioned. We walked
up to sit in the AC section but we saw that this was roped off as their Air
Condition was not working. This was one turn off because such a huge
restaurant, does not have air conditioning working especially when the climate
of Kerala is extremely humid.
So we went and seated ourselves in the non ac section. The
ambiance was just okay. There were lot of wooden tables and this place was
bustling with people. We sat ourselves and ordered their famous Chicken
Biryani. We ordered only one as we thought we would share the same. The waiter
asked us whether this would be our only order as their biryani was getting
over. Now this was my second turn off as the time was only 9:00 PM and I was
wondering how their signature dish could be over so early into the night. I anyway
confirmed that that would be our only order. We waited close to 10 minutes when
the waiter came and served our biryani with accomplishments of lemon pickle,
tamarind chutney and onion salad which was sliced onions and green chilies
dipped in vinegar.
We divided the biryani equally between us. This chicken was
nice and tender and lay on a bed of fresh aromatic rice. On taking a bite I could
get the taste of the nice tender juicy chicken. But I felt that the rice was a
bit bland. Though it was cooked well the masala from the chicken did not mix
well with the rice and all the taste I could get was that of the ghee in the
rice. This was not upto the usual standards I have heard of Kayekka Biryani. On
having this with the salad I felt that the mix of the flavors of the masala
from the chicken and the hit from the vinegar and the crunch from the onion
tasted good. The biryani was good but not that great.
After completing out meal we asked the waiter to get the
bill. I then gave my card to pay the bill and the waiter told me that they do
not accept card and they accept on cash. This was a major blow on my face. I
asked him such a huge restaurant like this with a lot of customers coming
regularly and they do not have a mechanism to accept card payments. He
apologized and said that they have stopped accepting card payments for a while.
I paid in cash and then left.
So for my overall dining experience, I felt really
disappointed. Here is some food for thought before I give my final review –
With such a huge restaurant, one needs to ensure
that your air conditioned section is fixed as soon as possible as on inquiring I
have heard its not been working for a while. Stop playing with customersEven local restaurants accept card transactions,
else place a board outside your restaurant that you accept only cash and then
we can walk away on timeYour signature dish is the biryani, if that gets
over by 9:00 PM that early in the night, your chef has no idea how much
quantity to cook
So Kayekko (Big Brother) better fix the above problems else,
the famous family name will be tarnished in the minds of people and your legacy
will not last another generation. So my
final review is as follows –
Ambiance – 3/5
Service – 3.5/5
Quality of Food – 3/5
Value for Money – 3.5/5
Overall Rating – 3.3/5For more reviews do visit my page flavouredexpressionsblog.wordpress.com
The biryani here is actually not that great. I find it to be very bland. The rice is cooked well, but I simply don't like the chicken and I absolutely dislike that black dates/tamarind chutney they serve with the biryani - it tastes like a rusty iron key. But I absolutely love the porotta, paneer butter masala, chicken fry & sulaimani (lemon tea actually) they serve here. the attitude of the waiters is a little annoying and the service is quite slow. Does not live up to the hype.
Must try Mutton Biriyani in town. Very tender Mutton pieces and the quality of Biriyani make it very differenent from normal dum biriyanis.THe dates pickle they serve along is very yummy.Try to go before 1 pm and you may get a place easily. If u are planning to go to their mattanjeri branch make it 12.30.

I reached the place around 1:30pm and the place was jam packed! People are all over waiting to grab a seat. During lunch time, the place is famous for just two things - Biriyani and Meals. Went to eat Mutton Biriyani and it got over by the time I got seated. Had to settle for Chicken Biriyani instead. It was quite good but wasn't good enough to the level I expected and to the hype this place creates. Biriyani has a generous portion to eat but found the Biriyani to be quite dry!
Kayees Biryani is well known in Cochin and if you're looking to get authentic biryani, I suggest you try these guys... Don't forget to order up the chicken fry as a side plate... It goes well with all the varieties of biryani they serve !! :)
Kayeekas biriyani is very famous in ernakulam..With great expectation a first timer visits and the biriyani is sure to not dissapoint him.. i would suggest this place to all those who crave biriyani!! Crowed through out the day..so if u are looking for a silent and peace filled dining then this is not the place!!
The very first day in Kochi and I ask zomato for a place and the nearest thing it showed was kayees! Was really happy to visit this place.. Their birayani is not that masaaledaar but yes it pleases your taste buds! One more sure thing to try is the mutton fry.. Really delicious.. But say hello to cholesterol! :D
Third time visit to this place as I stay in nearby hotel when I visit Ernakulam. I ordered chicken biriyani which is too heavy for me ... Friendly staff and suitable for family dine out..

This place literally has the best tasting biryani in Kochi. I absolutely love their authentic delicious flavors. The whole dish is delectable and even if you are eating just the rice it's yummy and full flavored. I have absolutely no negatives about the food. Also a must try is the prawns fry with the biryani. Amazing! Service is also very quick. The reason i didn't give this place a 5 is because of the ambiance. Its overcrowded and the decor is barely there. Its just like sitting in a big crowded hall and eating. Absolutely no ambiance and the restrooms also are not at all maintained and very dirty.
Finally we reached kayees biryani after long walking with my friend... I search which restaurant good in lunch, the app shows kayees... so finally I came, and ordered biryani and side dish,.. the biryani is sooo wonderful I ever tasted.. And also choclate shake is good.....
I hotel ambience is so nice.... and well treated staff... if u want to go kayees dnt miss biryani varities......
Biriyani Biriyani and more Biriyani! Delicious finger-licking good! Ghee-rich biriyani and tender chicken, with great sides (pickle and salads). You come out of this place with a heavy stomach and a happy heart!
Good flavourful basmati rice biryanis, served with onion salad, lemon pickle and puli inji.
Service was reasonably quick.
They have adequate car parking space.
It’s one of the iconic restaurants of Kochi.
Biriyani had a good flavour and meat pieces were also good but i think rice was not sufficient enough. Salad and lime pickle was also good. Overall cost is little bit high... Yeh give it a try. Restaurant maintains good cleanliness.
Would definitely recommend the mutton biriyani here .. simply amazing.. rich spice flavour and the mutton pieces were of good portions and cooked perfectly.. so far the best mutton biriyani that I have had in Kochi!!
Chicken biriyani is decent as well both the biriyanis had a different flavour to it
Biriyani is served with dates and lemon pickle along with tomato onion salad
The main dish in this restaurant is chicken biryani, good not bad food items, friendly parking area for cars and bikes, very crowded at least waiting time 20 minutes for seats, moderate rate for food items
Tried mutton biriyaani @ 280 for parcel , mutton pieces are little bit tough to eat. Over oily rice. Pickle , salad and sweet Puli inji are good.
Quick decision to turn towards Kayees. Chicken Biriyani was delicious. I thought Rahumaniya was better but unfortunately not. Kayees is the king! Experience is based on Chicken Biriyani! Also Lemon tea was heavily. I will go back for sure!
Good eatery with lots of place. Menu is average. Chicken biryani is 😋. Their menu mainly includes beef roast, beef dry fry, chicken and beef biryani etc.
I had my lunch from there. Ordered chicken biriyani.. It was nice.. Nice quality.. Not looks like modern hotels.. But like an old building.. Clean atmosphere.. They charged 190/- rupees for chicken biriyani.. Eventhough it has quality, but they could reduce the amount to 170/- atleast
We had chicken biriyani and fish biriyani both were delicious. The quantity of the same was more than enough. They have two sections, one with air conditioners and the other one without air conditioners. The area is neat and tidy. The only shortfall is limited parking spaces.
The food here is JUST AMAZING!
Whatever we ordered was great!
Specially the Curry mean fish masala! Literally amazing!
I even went here again just to have curry mean masala as parcel!
The service is a little slow but that's fine since the restaurant is very active on the customers and it's hardly empty, so the servers have to manage a lot.
It was my favorite biriyani hub since 2008 until Paragon came into the picture. But still, it is there on my list.
The chicken and mutton biriyani are just good and always above par. The preparation is a little different as the chicken is not fried but little on an Arabic style with thin, long rice.
But one point I would like to highlight is that the taste is not consistent, and it differs every time. Though not must try, the mutton liver is good as well.
A/C dining hall above and Non A/c dining hall on the ground floor. Enough parking space. Accepts all mode of payment.
Went here for lunch to sample the famous mutton biryani but it was over by the time we got there. The place runs busy so there may be a slight waiting time. They have two levels of seating. Ground floor is non ac and bigger space. The service is quite fast. We tried the chicken biryani and found it reasonably good. The aromatic rice in the biryani is perfect. The meat was not perfect though.
We also ordered mutton roast and found it reasonably good though a tad bit oily.
Overall a good place
Best mutton biriyani in kochi and must try those chicken fry (peralan)
One of the best mattanchery style biryani available in kochi city. With good service and staffs and ample space available for parking. They have both A/C and non A/C dine in spaces. Biryani lover's in town need to try for sure..!
Wonderful briyani in cochin town. Even though it was super crowded we managed to get seats in 20mins. Kudos to Management.
I went there from Kolkata on 3rd July and I tried the chicken biryani with my family. I found it appetizing, especially for its subtle taste and aroma. Overall I liked the taste.
A Good Place for Biriyani Lovers with plenty of Parking facilities.
