Had an amazing dinner date at La Cucina, Hyatt post lockdown. Couldn't trust any other restaurants right now except for the 5 star ones and La Cucina definitely lived up to the expectations. Extremely hygienic, excecuted all necessary sanitization rules, maintained social distancing. Coming to the food, we ordered Tawa fish for starters. The piece of Bhetki was perfectly cooked, would love to order it again. For main course we ordered Chicken Spaghetti in Alfredo sauce and a tenderloin steak. The spaghetti was perfect, you could tell they used good quality Parmesan cheese. The tenderloin was cooked to perfection, just as we asked, medium to well done,with hardly any sinew. Their service is top notch, enjoyed interacting with them. They constantly enquire about the quality of food, making sure if there's anything we didn't like or have it replaced. The best part was a free dessert sort of protein bars, which were super delicious. Thank you for hosting us in these tough times.

From antipasti to zuppa, pizza to pasta, Italian food has always been quite fascinating and lipsmacking.

After looking at various options, this time we decided to visit La Cucina.

Situated inside Hyaat Regency, the interiors were absolutely stunning and extremely ravishing !!! It was too much spacious with live kitchen and one of the very few places making pizza in wood oven. Coming to food, we ordered :-

Burrata (Antipasti) :- Just like the name, it was completely fantabulous. Smooth, silky and extremely pulpy !! Along with sliced cheery tomatoes and basil, the entire burrata was divided into four (4) halves and texture was soft and fresh cheese. Absolutely divine it was !!!

Minestrone Soup (Zuppa) :- It was basically stew-like soup with loads of vegetables in it. Hearty, healthy and tasted incredible !!!

Penne (Pasta) in Mix Veg Sauce :- Hot, creamy and delicious. Pasta has always been a favorite of mine and this place didn't disappointed us at all;

Santa Babila Pizza :- With tomato, oregano and basil, pizza was lipcious. Quantity was too good. It was crispy, cheesy and scrumptious.

Affagato :- Scooo of vanilla ice cream topped on shot of expresso with chocolate shavings. This one is a personal favorite of mine and it was completely like creamy coffee flavoured ice cream. It's a must try here !!!

Tiramisu :- Soft, but not mushy with a bit of liquor, a coffee-flavored Italian dessert, having little sweetness with just the right bitterness from the coffee and cocoa powder. One of the best ever had in recent times.

Lemon Tart :- Crumbly, sweet, cookie-like crust with classic lemon curd filling that is too creamy, not too sour. It was provided with a scoop of chocolate ice cream. One of the best combination, it was just awesome !!

Hazelnut and chocolate lava cake :- Ultra chocolatey and decadent. The cake was too good, the feeling of utterly divine where liquid ozzes out as its too soft inside. This one is completely heavenly and recommended for chocoholics !!!

Overall , experience was truly great here. Great Food, Good Quality and Awesome Hospitality - this place was a perfect combination of all these. Servers were polite, helpful and good. Service was fast and prompt.

Just awesome food and wine. The server and chef were flexible and willing to accommodate our request to add truffle oil on our pizza. The spaghetti was fresh and just perfectly cooked. Ravioli was great and again the chef didn’t mind improvising when we asked to make the sauce little different from what was on the menu. The wine collection is good and it was served at just the right temperature. All in all a perfect 5 star experience. This restaurant deserves a rating above 4.5, I don’t know why it is just 4.1

The Italian chef Mr DP Rath, is just too awesome.his knowledge of the cuisine and the presentation of food is top class. We loved all the courses and top notch was asparagus crespelle and gnocchi.

Visited this place sometime back and loved their Italian dishes.
They have authentic Italian food which is surely worth every bite.
The mushroom risotto was fabulous and the pizzas were amazing and had the option of making the base with multigrain bread.

However, the dessert, tiramisu was quite disappointing as it was too frozen from inside to be eaten.
Could've been better!

Italian cuisine has been in for very long and is recourse for many who want a break from the spices of Indian food. Thus, an invite to a blogger’s meet at La Cucina on the first floor of the Hyatt Regency sent us to a happy space. La Cucina Based out of true Italian flavors this buzzy eatery offers a cozy environment in which you can enjoy a delicious bowl of pizza or pasta or salads too .Having an indoor sitting you are served in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. The Pranzo menu here extends far beyond the delectable Italian treat such as pizzas or pastas, and I strongly suggest trying it.  My review is based on the following delicacies .

So it was our marriage anniversary and I wanted to have Italian cuisine esp Ravioli. So we opted for La Cucina. I had a mixed experience at this Italian dining den. I can say their service is promt and staffs are friendly. Ambience is soothing and romantic. They have open kitchen so you can see freshly made pizzas are coming out of oven while enjoying your food. Now coming to the most important thing food. We ordered Seafood Soup, Lamb Casoncelli, Pepperoni pizza and Tiramisu. They serve complimentary bread.
One Seafood soup is good for two as it has generous amount of squid pieces and cherry tomatoes. I like the soup as starter. Next was Lamb Casoncelli and what would I say I just LOOOVED it. It's a must must try for those who love Ravioli or you can say stuffed pasta. There's not many places in Kolkata where you'll get stuffed pasta (Ravioli , Casoncelli etc etc) and I had tasted stuffed pasta in all these places. Only 2 places I liked and La Cucina is one of them. That's the star of the dinner.
After having such a delicious Casoncelli and enjoying the sight of freshly made pizzas our next order was served: pepperoni pizza and it was a big-time let down for me. I found a strange smell in that. Taste wise also it was lacking in many thing. The Lamb Casoncelli was quite feeling so after having 2 slices each of us, we asked them to pack rest of the pizza. This is the sole reason I deducted 1 point. The last one was Tiramisu and yes it was delicious. Pocket pinch was around Rs.4300 (forgot the exact amount) which was quite okay for a fine dining place that too located in a star property. Overall apart from the pizza I enjoyed my dinner at La Cucina.

Best place for a romantic candle light dinner. The décor, the ambience, and most definitely the service is top notch. By far one of my best fine dine experience.
Coming to the food - we ordered for a Pepperoni pizza that was scrumptious. The crust was just right and toppings were quite juicy. For desserts, we picked the Tiramisu (must must must try). If you have a sweet tooth you shouldn't miss out on this. Overall, had a wonderful experience!

Food is amazing if you are an italian lover. Ordered Risotto, one pasta dish and a stuffed chicken. Desserts were amazing. We ordered Tiramisu and melting chocolate. Don’t miss the melting chocolate. It’s the best there. Ambience is pretty good. Service is the drawback. The waiters and manager are very polite but the time taken to get the order is quite a lot. Takes about 20-25 mins for every dish to arrive. It’s pricey since it’s a five star fine dining. Overall a good experience.

Visited this place with my family.
If i talk about the place, i guess my words will be incomplete.
Coming to the service, i met a this person, Bikramjit (i guess), he was very polite and helpful, even when he was not the person who was allocated for serving me. But this particular person really made feel comfortable and fresh.
Ordered 2 pizza, one was paparazzi and another was oglio olio.
Even though paparazzi is one of the best, i found oglio olio to be fat better.
Overall, the experience was quite good.
If one visit this place, definitely try to get service from Bikramjit, and Anita (another girl who served me).
Rest was helpful too.

If it is good Italian food, it has got to be at La Cucina. The ambience, the service, the presentation of the food, the open kitchen with the wood-fire pizza oven, the ever cheerful chefs – everything transports you to a place of warmth and exuberance. They have a huge selection of local and imported wines in a floor-to-ceiling wine library. Simply in love with the place.

Being a 5star property it ought to be great place. Love the look of the place, specifically the open kitchen where you can have a look at the food being prepared. Love the look of the pizza oven. We went on a weekday, but had a good rush. We are seated in about 10mins after entering the place. Zomato gold is one the best happening to such properties.

For an authentic Italian sunday La Cucina is very well recommended. Lapped in Hyatt Regency, the place is perfect for a romantic candle light dinner. Table booking is advisable as one may find long waiting time on the weekends.
One of the favourite place for the non veg lovers for a sophisticated dinner and buffet too. The servers are too professional and the guests maybe like the way serious they are. Yet the warmth is and looks like a mechanically monotonous serve as compared to the other newly opened places in the city.

The fine and luxurious dining place offers a lot of delicious stuff on the menu.
The basket of soft buns are tempting and quite filling before even the food arrives, hence it is advised to not eat too much of those so that you can enjoy your ordered meal :)
The live kitchen can keep you hooked to watching the preparations and have increased hunger pangs as you await your order.
Among the vegetarian dishes :
-Minestrone soup
-Garlic Bread
-Aglio olio served with variations of several toppings
-Spinach and ricotta ravioli
-Della casa pizza, wood burn and more
are the ones those can be ordered without a second thought. You may even ask for other dishes both veg and non veg to be prepared as per your taste and preferences.

-Melting chocolate tart served with vanilla ice cream
are indeed sinful indulgence !

This place has nice ambience and polite waiters . All points on hospitality area. Coming to food, my signature dish is Della casa pizza . It's simply amazing . Nothing can beat that dish. Our other options are sauteed mushrooms and pasta in pink sauce . Both are good to go . Closing the meal by a desert . It's usually brownie with ice cream. Damn tasty . If you can afford the budget its worth the try . Specially the pizza :p

Asparagus starter is good. Della Cassa Pizza is all time favourite. Gnocchi is very well made.

La cucina is a place which I have like visited a several times , so whenever I visit here I like to order two things one is the choco lava cake and another is the thin crust pizza wood fire pizza,
The best part about this place is the ambience ,you ll be suprised that even on weekdays ,theres a huge footfall out here even on the weekdays
We love the mixed veg pizza out here ,and the choco lava cake is something which is out of the world , whenever we go we always order 2 choco lava because one is not enough for me
The portion of the choco is comparatively less than what is served in taj bengal ,and the only flaw I find about this place is that price is comparatively on a higher side

This Italian restaurant of Hyatt, lives upto the expectations of an Hyatt restaurant.
Beautiful ambience and feel. Excellent for romantic dates. The service is also prompt and good.
Coming to the food, we had:
1. Warm asparagus salad with blue cheese and caramelized onions- the salad was very well made. Asparagus was soft and warm, the cheese sauce was perfect as well.
2. The 6 cheese pizza- I really couldn't differenciate which were the 6 cheeses, but the base was crisp and nice.
3. Cannelloni- One of the finest preparations of cannellonis that I had. It was filling without being heavy. Absolutely loved it.
4. Warm chocolate tart with ice-cream- had ordered this because the tiramisu wasn't available.
The tart was warm and oozed out chocolate when you cut into it. The icecream was also fine. The dessert was good, but it wasn't anything great.

This is a very good Italian restaurant.. All the pasta dishes were fabulous.. The pizzas were also worth mentioning.. I also love their pastas and the octopus salad.. The green peas arancini, through veg, in the hot appetiser section was real tasty..food is always fresh and brilliant..

The desster spread was endless.. One thing that is good is the food and the choice of wines they have is just amazing..

The service and decorations are excellent.. Staffs here is very courteous, humble and friendly.. I love this place, nice music, just a heavenly place to come on a date or even with family..

A truly 5 star hotel........

One of the best Italian restaurants in Kolkata, if not the best. Warm ambience, sweet staff, and wholesome Italian food. The Mushroom Buns were a meal in themselves, and the Sundried Tomato Tortellini oozed flavour and creaminess. The ‘Italian Kiss’ mock tail had, in line with the setting, a warm yet refreshing taste. The Melting Chocolate Tart was rich and decadent. If you crave simple, true Italian food, this is arguably the best Kolkata has to offer.

We went here recently for a candlelight dinner and also we were craving some fine Italian food.
We were totally impressed by the beautiful ambience with fairy lights and dreamy touch,live kitchen and courteous staffs.

We ordered for a glass of finest wine,Lamb Ravioli and Chicken Agilo olio pizza.
🔹️Lamb Ravioli-The Lamb Ravioli is one of the best dishes we had till date.Pasta stuffed with minced lamb and cooked in mushroom creamy sauce was absolutely delicious.Highly recommended.
🔸️ChickenAgilo Olio Pizza -It was superb and again one of the best pizzas we had till date.
▫️We ended our dinner with a Raspberry delice from The Bakery section and loved it too.

Overall,we had an excellent experience here and surely coming back again.La cucina undoubtedly offers one of the finest Italian food.

Its the most costly Italian resturant in the town which is famous for its wine.. But unfortunately we went here just for food.
We had 2 pizza(multi grain), 1 alio olio, 1 mushroom rissoto
I personally didn't like alio olio much but other items were good.. It was eve tempting to see the wooden pizza oven installed right in the open kitchen
Overall good experience, but no option for veg in main course, which should be taken care of

If you are craving for Italian food in Kolkata, go straight to La Cucina. Amazing pizza. We have also ordered Vodka penne which was very delicious. I really had a great time at La Cucina. Though prices are little high but it’s totally worth every penny.

La cucina has been one of the best Italian restaurants in Kolkata. We started with garlic mushrooms , chicken Alfredo and a few drinks such as the shirley temple , ginger coke , fresh lime and Italian smooch. The drinks were really good to taste. The garlic mushrooms dominated of garlic and were tender.
For main course we had the margerita pizza , the chicken pizza , the four cheese pizza , Aglo olio, arrabiata and Alfredo pastas. They were all decent in taste, although I did find that the quality of pizzas has reduced a little since I was last there.
Desserts were unforgettable. The fondant has always been my favourite and I’m sure they use very good quality chocolate for it. It’s literally a melt in the mouth dessert. The tiramisu was also good.
For a restaurant that’s part of such a great chain of hotels , I think the food could have been better. Nevertheless , the ambience is great.

As we enter the first thing we see is the ambeince , it was treat to our eyes very sober ambience with dim lights all around and good mix of light and dark brown seating and walls .

Service : One of the best services , very courteous smiling staff , staff is very well dressed that has impressed me .

Food : We have ordered Della casa pizza which tasted insanely good , and mix sauce pasta which was also made good . The taste of the food was mild it gave similar feeling or experience of having food in some abroad restaurant :)
Best Italian food is served here , it's a worth visiting La Cucina .

It wouldn't pinch Your pocket hard as It's a zomato gold partner ;) 😉

If you are a fan of cheese oozing out of your pizza this is definitely not your cup of tea but if you want to try good Italian food, the way it's meant to be then this place should be on your once a visit list. Ambience is good, service is top notch. We tried the Pizza and Tiramisu and found it to be a little more soggy than expected. The complementary breads are really good, don't give them a miss.

Being a regular at the waterside cafe, I was very excited to taste the Italian food here. However, my experience was a little dampened by the service and the taste of food.
Two of us, we ordered the chicken roulade, house garlic bread, a rosemary infused jumbo prawn and a mushroom risotto.
The roulade and garlic bread was cooked/ baked to perfection. However, the combination of the prawn with a rosemary infused tomato base didn't quite satiate the taste buds. Moreover, the prawns weren't perfectly cooked.
The flavours of the risotto were just right. But then it seemed to me like the dish had been taken off the heat a bit too soon.. Arborio rice takes a long time to cook and to take it off the heat earlier than required renders it grainy which is not the expected texture in a creamy mushroom risotto.

Coming to the service, I was pleased with the promptness with which the food was getting delivered to our table initially, but once the place started getting crowded, it was difficult to catch our servers eye.. But then, I wouldn't ponder on this point for too long.

All in all a pleasant experience.. Whether I'll want to come back is still a question though.

If you love italian and if you happen to live or be in kolkata then you should be here sometime or at least once. They know the art of making amazing italian food. They are here since the time no other italian restaurant sprung up.

I had been here before my marriage and just some days back too. No matter what you order or what you want to have they have the very best of all of them. Even today the decor seems fresh, new and amazing.

We had warm asparagus with blue cheese and it was mind blowing. I am not much of an experimental person but my wife insisted on trying this new thing and this turned out to be the best of the evening.

Then we had spaghetti in mixed sause and it was amazing too. The service and freshness of things is what brings you back here again and again.

It is a must try and a highly recommended place for Italian cuisine lovers in here.

I regularly visit this restaurant whenever I am in the mood for good Italian food. Although the menu is quite limiting the classic Italian dishes can be found. Hyatt holds pride in their F&B department and maintains quality standards. On this visit we ordered one appetizer, and two main dishes, clubbed together with the Hyatt membership card this meal was very affordable for 2. 

Our appetizer was prawn cooked in a tomato preparation topped with rocket leaves, the freshness of the ingredients enhanced the light and rustic Italian flavors, however the seafood appetizer on the old menu was far better. For mains we had the Beef steak and Beef lasagna, both of which were fantastic. The beef steak was cooked to perfection and was served with potatoes and mushroom sauce. As for the lasagna, this wholesome dish reminded me why I love Italian food, with fresh parmesan, good quality cheese and a delicious tomato sauce. 

I would also thoroughly recommend their pizza and pasta dishes. I hope to also visit this restaurant for their Sunday brunch and hope to have fulfil my Italian cravings.

Deep fried meatballs served with home fresh salsa.

 The journey started with Amuse-Bouche (French term means ‘mouth amused’) - a Parmesan creme brûlée served with crispy crostini from the chef’s selection menu.

First time tried this vegetarian Italian twist, an unusual creme brûlée in its savoury version, but with a feel of familiar flavours in the palate - a mix of whipped milk, cream, Parmesan cheese, egg yolk baked and lightly blowtorched. A very elegant dish to kick off with a luxury dining served with a little loaf, crusty on top and soft inside.

The presentation reflects the chef’s artistic approach to a cuisine in terms of colours, textures.

The little bite is accompanied by a complementing quality sparkling wine - Gran Cuvee Brut from the House of Fratelli to prepare the palate, very delicate taste with a touch of citrus and lovely bubbles.

 The second-course dinner - Appetizer

Slow cooked chicken breast, grilled potato, salsa gribiche.

Shredded chicken breasts slowly cooked and draped with a dressing of gribiche sauce - a mayonnaise style cold egg sauce (hard boiled egg yolks) with its origin from French cuisine is whisked with light mustard, virgin olive oil, vinegar, seasoned with salt and paper. Served on a bed of thin slice of lightly grilled potato.

Reflection of an Italian trend in French cuisine with an elegant look. Very sophisticated and delicious for my palate to experience the gribiche sauce mixed with minced chicken for the first time. A perfect meal for a summer afternoon.

The salad is accompanied by the grape flavoured white-wine - Sauvignon Blanc from the House of Fratelli. Perfectly balanced with fruity infused flavours.

 The third-course dinner meal - Pasta

Fresh homemade Spaghetti served with scallop carbonara and Peruvian asparagus
The glorious Italian carbonara with its origin from Rome is made by scrambling eggs and Parmesan mixed with rich tangles of Spaghetti served with mildly butter garlic tossed tender creamy scallops and the slightly pan roasted crunchy luxurious imported Asparagus from Peru with little grassy flavour. The delicate seafood flavours of the scallops are well blended with the carbonara.

A classic Roman dish that will steal the heart of every foodie with a palate formed from far West.

The gourmet dish is paired with light blooded red wine - 70%Sangiovese and 30%Cabernet Sauvignon from the House of Fratelli, a fine balance of acidic and sweetness in terms of tastes.

 The fourth dinner course meal - Main Course

Lamb rack Villeroy, soft shallot potato, hazelnut spinach
With its origin from French commune, Panko crusted rack of lambs marinated with herbs inside, deep fried in clarified butter to its perfection keeping its texture intact as pale golden brown - crispy, juicy and tender meat with easy going knife into the lamb. Served on a bed of ultra creamy, rich, cheesy garlic flavoured shallot mashed potatoes with finely chopped toasted hazelnuts mixed with blanched spinach from the farmer's basket. The mild flavours of the spinach and toasted hazelnut add an extra depth and crunch with the mashed potatoes.

The gourmet dish is paired with red wine 🍷- 100% Sangiovese from the House of Fratelli with fruity sour flavours and medium acidity.

 The last course of the meal - Dessert

Mango mint parfait, chocolate cage, dark rum essence, sweet mint leaves.

Rich chilled summer healthy dessert made from whipped cream, egg yolk, mango purée, mint brushed with rich dark rum essence which adds a rum-laced flavour to the signature dessert garnished with sweet flavoured aromatic mint leaves. The main body of the dessert is enveloped with a crispy gorgeous, eye-catching chocolate border called the chocolate cage.

The dessert is perfectly paired with a shot of rum soda.

I did not know anything about La Cucina until last night when I arrived in Hyatt Regency Kolkata for an invitation from Chef De Cuisine Maitreya Sen at around 7pm . I stumbled upon and the whole experience was great. The interior is very nicely appointed in an eclectic style flawlessly combining open kitchen space with high end furnishings.

Well...it was yet another family dinner at La Cucina....the Italian restaurant at Hyatt Regency. It has a great amount of goodwill amongst the diners. The asparugus soup and the asparagus in blue cheese was very good in taste. The soup would have been perfect had it served piping hot. The Della casa pizza on a thin base was perfect....though it took ages to be served. The food experience was good but the service left a lot to be desired. Please try this place if you are not very fussy about the service and are not short on time.

I visited La Cucina to get the taste of authentic Italian cuisine on a very special day- My wife's birthday. Observing my wife's craving over Italian food, we decided to go for one of the best Italian restaurant of the city. Truly it lived up to our expectations.

Ambience is pretty good.
Service was excellent and prompt too. Staffs were super courteous and always took special care during our visit.
Food - we ordered the preparation on Lamb Ravioli and the mushroom sauce was just out of the world!
Lamb Ravioli just melted in our mouth. Then we ordered Chicken aglio olio pizza with thin crust and it also was awesome in terms of taste.
We then went for penne chicken paste in pink sauce. The pasta was tasty but I thought it was but too overpriced.
Lastly they had something in-store for us. When we were going to order our dessert - classic Tiramisu, they brought a special chocolate birthday cake for my wife. Honestly, we did not expect it but at the same time, loved the surprise and gesture. The cake was pure Bliss with it's triple layer chocolate.
I would love to visit the restaurant again.

Only thing to improve:- Add few more items in the menu.

Minauti and her team do a fantastic job to make the amazing food an awesome experience. The reworked menu is as amazing as earlier. The miniestrone soup in pesto base was mind blowing. The dela casa pizza was again as amazing as always. The sundried tomoato rissoto was simply mmmm... and to top it all the chocolate bomb takes us to a different world all together.
A visit worth repeating always.

This place is probably the best Italian restaurants in the city I have been to. The pizzas are made to perfection. Don't forget to try the tiramisu which is simply wow. Devas (if I am not wrong ) was very courteous and sincere who deserves a special mention. Keep up the good work guys!! Cheers....

Well My idea was to have the perfect Candle light dinner and La Cucina delivers most special night of my life. Ambience was just awsome so as the staff. Service was prompt and Most of all the  they served one of the best italian cuisines so far.

Food to try : Speghatti alio olio with smoked bacon and  any pizza with thick crust.

Must try luxary restaurent in Kolkata so Far for a Romantic dinner.

Visited Hyatt- La Cucina yesterday for dinner and was quiet happy with its quality of Italian food served as well as with their service. We tried lamb and cottage cheese pasta and mushroom pizza. It did live upto to our standards and expectations. Hope to visit soon.

La cucina serves a very different style of rustic yet refined Italian food. Dishes are usually served in the same pan that they are cooked in. They had an antipasti buffet, which wasn't very appetising. Service was very good. Though wine prices are quite high.

We had recently visited the place to be a part of the Restaurant week 2017. The place was offering a variety of appetizers, main course and desert to choose from their set menu.

The place is beautifully done and the open kitchen along with the wood fired stove at the Centre definitely adds to the charm. We ordered for a golden fried goat cheese medallion with slow roasted cherry tomatoes and Sfiziosa pizza as appetizers. The goat cheese was extremely rich and creamy and induced multilevel taste sensations in the head. The pizza was good too. For the main course we settled for bucatini tossed with cured pork meat and the beef tenderloin. The medium rare steak was extremely tender was oozing out taste. It was the show stealer for the night. Finally for dessert we had Sicilian Cannoli and a melting chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream which were pretty much average.

Overall a decent experience. The place is good, the staff courteous and some of the food delicious.

The mocktails were also made to our request. The only concern little bit was there service which was slow and not up to Hyatt's standards.

We went for a Sunday brunch just the other day. Its not so much a brunch as a lunch since it starts at 1230. But that works fine with me. You can sit there for hours sipping your bottomless glass of very decent Proseco and take all the time in the world to have each course.
So four hours later we were happily stuffed and quite drowsy ....... took some time to gather the bits and write a review that this place so deserves.
The highlights for me:
The beet root canape
The pesto pizza
The rotellini in smoke bell pepper sauce
The cold cuts - parma ham, prosciutto
The generous platter of cheese
A perfect Margarita pizza
The experience at this price is quite a gift to the city.

It was the Easter evening, close to quarter to 8 when we walked in to a nearly empty La Cucina .

Few words about the service :

We were shown our table, but no body 'sat' us at the table. Pulling and pushing the chairs was how it all began.

We got our share of the complimentary bread pieces , but without a dip, is there really a point ? We ordered a cheese dip , which took its own sweet time to arrive.

No change of cutlery for the appetiser and main dishes. We didn't make a fuss , but it would have been welcome.

The dessert ( Tiramisu ) was served on a dessert plate , along with the spoons. But we were two, and we needed our own plates to eat from. Those plates came after attention was drawn to our table.

It would be unfair of me to comment too much on the food, as I have rarely eaten authentic Italian food, either in Kolkata or anywhere else. We had Kalamata centred chicken roulade in mushroom sauce as the appetiser, which had a subtle taste. I had expected the chicken to be a little softer though. We had the Chicken Oglio Olio Pizza, which was nice, but served bit cold. After around 15 minutes the thin crust seemed to harden from the sides.

I was expecting to get 'overwhelmed' considering I had gone through some generous Zomato reviews on the place.
Sadly that didn't happen.

The service level needs to go up a few notches higher , considering this is one of the very few fine dining places exclusively devoted to the Italian cuisine. A simple benchmark can be the services offered at any of the ' Mainland China ' group restaurants in Kolkata. Point to note is none of them are housed in star rated properties; they are present mostly in shopping malls.

I would also look forward to some
Italian touch to the music played at the restaurant. Speaking of me; the magical voice of Luciano Pavarotti would have certainly made the Chicken Pizza taste better , instead of the English melodies :).

Like all average bongs, Italian food means pizza and pasta to me, and tha too, pizza from Dominos or Pizza Hut. It's not that we've not been exposed to a proper Italian food, but the lack of an Italian fine dining restaurant had made it difficult. So, this time, when I was invited for the Truffle festival in La Cucina, Hyatt Regency Kolkata, with chef Silvia Landucci from Boscovivo and the famed food writer Karen Anand, I was excited.

La cucina is the flagship Italian specialty restaurant in Hyatt Regency Kolkata and probably the only Italian fine dining restaurant in the luxury hotels in the city, so the expectation was pretty high. Though I've been to Gucci a number of times with family, but somehow this outlet was a new one for me and what could've been a better time to visit it than this promotion ?

The ambiance and service, as it should be, is top notch here but what differentiates this place from other joints, is the vast window that overlooks the salt lake stadium. And a window seat there can make even a sad person happy- was my first reaction, once I entered the outlet. Like all other outlets in the hotel, this one too, had an open kitchen- so interacting with the chefs and requesting them for the small special requirements is much easier.

Truffle is an under-used ingredient for the Italian food in India. And, considering the price factor and the acquired taste that it has, why shouldn't it be ? Mostly till now, it's been used for the high end banquets and specially curated super posh meals, but it seems this time, Karen Anand and Sylvia has got some special plans in mind for making it available for the mass market. So, the less costly products like truffle honey and truffle oil are getting introduced and I feel they're going to be the next in-thing for Kolkata.

However, enough of the non-food gyan and please stop cursing me. I am coming to the food. We were offered a specially curated pre-plated menu. The menu, though having lots of unknown terms (for an under-educated blogger like me...), seemed interesting and off we started the journey.

For the first course, I chose Burrata (as I louuuuuve cheese- period). The smell of Truffle was present prominently and one thing I'e noticed. all these places make this dish right and this was no exception. If you like subtlety, go for this dish- recommended. And, me being me, I was eyeing the dish ordered by my friend Debjani, who sat beside me. She went for the Scallops and before she could say anything, I hijacked one of those small diver scallops and put in my mouth. And pure foodgasm it was. Those small beauties were divine and the pure underneath (yellow pepper, green peas and pumpkin) had made the difference. Debjani was cursing me- but what the heck.....

Rice is a weakness for any bong and we're not ashamed of it. So, in an Italian meal also, I opted for the Risotto, which was closest to rice. cooked with duck liver and mushrooms and finished with truffle salsa, it was heaven. A dish with Fatty Duck Liver is rare to find in the city and loved this dish. Chef Sumeet Pryadarshi, with the consultation of Karen and Sylvia, had worked wonders. Again Debjani (with a square face) sacrificed some of her Fettuccine. But, after the Risotto, it didn't stand a chance.

The menu was designed for the bongs - I thought and my guess came into reality when the next dish was served. It was the Norwegian Salmon. Now, I always have a fancy for this thing (and a lot of other things though.....) and when the knife is passed through it , I feel a primal pleasure. The dish looked great and was a treat for the taste buds...

For dessert, a Pannacotta was served and the truffle honey was used subtly here, to give it a different finish.

Overall, the meal was awesome. And with the company of good friends, how can it go wrong ? La Cucina serves a sunday brunch with unlimited pouring at a very very cost effective price, but that's another story.....

Thanks to Dineout today we went to La Cucina. I usually end up going to this when there's a special occasion but today Dineout made it special. 50% off on the food bill. The food here was yum. Saffron sauce Ravioli was the dish of the day. It isn't available on the menu, but on special requests they do make it for you. The 7 cheese pizza was also crazy. Overall the food here is amazing. Service was spot on. Ambience was great. Feels great to eat here. One of the best places to eat Italian food for sure. Today we just got lucky thanks to the ads on the newspapers.

It was New Years day and the celebration had to be grand and opulent. And there couldn't have been better option than La Cucina. The ambience of the place was gorgeous and impressive.
Coming to the food, it was Sunday brunch. The spread in the cold section was fascinating including prawn cocktail, asparagus ricotta, avocado salad, roasted beef, bacon and lamb salad to name a few. The green peas arancini, though veg, in the hot appetiser section was real tasty.
All the pasta dishes were fabulous but the pigi pasta with orange pesto was enticing.
The pizzas were also worth mentioning.
The dessert spread was endless and each one was magnificent in taste.
With all good things, the only thing and an important one, which was disheartening is the set of dirty plates kept at the fresh plate area. And it was not just a single plate but multiple ones. Which is not at all expected from a 5 star hotel restaurant.

We have dined here multiple times and this is my first review. I must say that every time the team at La Cucina have been spot on with service, food quality and team friendliness. I recommend to dine at this restaurant if you are in Kolkata.

The must try are: Garlic bread, Rissotto, Tenderloin!
