Had a delightful Onam Sadhya at Tamarind. Authentic tasting South Indian delicacies along with excellent services makes it a winner all the way.
Their home deliveries are also well packaged and comes piping hot.
This restaurant is very conveniently located near the 4-point crossing of Sarat Bose Road and Rashbehari Avenue, beside Desapriya Park. Its a classy and well decorated place, that serves both North Indian and South Indian delicacies.
We ordered:
Meen Polichadu (Fish Starter), Chicken Chettinad with Appam and Malabar paratha, Mutton Rogan Josh with Butter Naan, Double ka meetha (Shahi Tukda) and Nolengurer Ice-cream (they get it from Pabrai's).
To my amazement, all the dishes were awesome and fulfilling in terms if quality and quantity. They were prepared in authentic style. Service was prompt.

Last month visited this awesome place which is near deshopriyo park...after entering the first thing that will blow your mind is the ambience out here with a South Indian touch and beautiful decors and paintings.. coming to the food I tried Egg kothu paratha and mutton sukka..both was equally impressive and specially the mutton sukka was excellent with succulent mutton pieces with Rich in taste...the price is a bit high but the taste is just awesome.. surely recommended 😊
The ambience was very good, as well as the Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani which was about 99.9% of the original Hyderabadi Biryani. Chicken Hariyali and also the North Indian nans were great. The negative side was that it was too hot due to being overcrowded and the AC's or fans weren't working or may be could not cool down the place.

Although it is very near to my place I somehow missed it for such a long time. So last week I went there and the first thing that impressed me was the decor. It was so soothing to the eyes and very appealing. Everything was oozing with South Indian culture with very beautiful paintings and architecture all around.
Coming to the food now.
They first served us a complementary chaas with curry leaves on top.
We ordered Appams, Mutton Kari Kolambu and Malabar Chicken Curry. The Appams were simply so delicious tasted like freshly made dosas and the mutton of the Kari Kolambu was cooked to perfection but was a little bit extra spicy .The best was the Chicken which had a very delicious gravy,mildly spiced and went perfectly with the Appams.
After our meal we were served complementary paans with coconut filling.
All in all it was a very good meal indeed.

I was here for lunch last month.The first thing that will catch your eyes when you enter this place is there ambience and atmosphere its just great,Now lets talk about the food it was good especially the 'Mutton Sukka' it was great.. the mouthwatering succulent pieces of mutton with spicy South Indian flavours create a superb combination. I also tried the jumbo prawn curry and pulav it was good and for dessert I had Gulab jamun with ice cream. The staffs were cooperative and I would say that the price is a bit high but its worth it. The quality and quantity is great.

me and family have been here several times. by far the best north indian and south indian cuisines can be found here. ambience and service unmatched. however word of caution, better to avoid this place during pujas. we went on nabami this year, ordered coorg chkn, chkn lababdar with naan. both the chkn dishes had stale chkn, very hard to chew. notified the restaurant as well. Will definitely visit again but nabami dinner was ruined.

One of the few joints offering good south Indian and north Indian cuisine at the same time. We tried their fish ajwaini tikka which was melt in mouth. Also had ghost biryani and chicken lababdar both of which were good. The butter milk added a balance to all the rich flavors. Only thing for the price the kebab portions are small
I was here at this place for dinner last night. The place has some rich interior decors. We tried a few items. For starters, we had Tawa Fish, while in ht e main course, we had naan and chicken lababdar and gulab jamun with ice cream for dessert. The only thing missing was the mocktail in the menu.

If you are looking for some authentic south indian dishes, this place is one the best. Not only south indian food, I tried their North indan dishes. It is just amazing. The ambience shoots the south indian touch.Located near desapriya park . the service was pretty good and hygine is also good.

This place has a old time feeling. Cozy sitting arrangement, dim light and a sense of peace. The service is amazing as well. From the old man who opened the door to the waiter who showed us the table, everyone offered warm smiles. The food they served was so good that we kept gushing about it all the way back home. The veg biriyani is light and yummy. We also ordered chicken Tikka masala which was rich, creamy, yet, low spicy. Overall a great experience. Will surely visit the place again.

Great place the theme has everything Hyderabadi ... That's the best thing. Sorry I couldn't click my dish's pictures because I was busy taking the decors and backgrounds picture. But the veg biriyani and the chicken biriyani you can try it out. The chicken lollipop was also delicious. The only drawback what I found in the restaurant was - the service was very late , I don't know why it was so but it was annoying. As we went to place in Durga Puja may due to the festive season it was so, but the only drawback was very pinching.
This place specialises over North Indian and South Indian foods. But I really enjoy their South Indian dishes more. The ambience of this place is really decent yet sophisticated. They offer complimentary welcome drink to every guests. And that masala buttermilk is just so good. Coming to the food, we ordered chicken chettinad, malabar parantha and South Indian style gost biriyani. Each of them tasted brilliant. The parantha were soft and moist, the biriyani was really beautifully cooked and the chettinad also tasted good but the salt in it was a bit on the lesser side (it didn't affect the gravy though but the chicken pieces tasted a bit tasteless). The prices are quite reasonable. The service was really fast. The staffs were very polite and humble. Highly recommended.

Went with husband for lunch. Had an amazing experience. Such courteous and friendly staff! They open at 12 noon.
The menu options are varied. They specialise in South Indian dishes although you have 2 menus, one specific to South Indian dishes and the other menu is for other Indian cuisines. We wanted to have South Indian lunch and ordered Steamed rice, Ambat Dal and Malabar chicken. The refreshments on arrival, is complementary as were the papads & the paans. The food was excellent and the interior was so Indian to the core. I loved the prints of amazing paintings adorning the room. The food portions are sufficient. We ordered one of each item and had to get leftovers packed after 2 people consumed sufficiently from it. I would definitely go back there if I want to have some tasty South Indian dishes.
P.S. Especially for women, who hate unclean washrooms, their washrooms are clean and well kept as well.
We had Hyderabad Biryani which was not Dum cooked, slightly less spicy than original Hyderabad Biriyani , but pretty decent. Mutton pieces were not that soft.Chicken Chettinad was excellent. It went very well with the appam and Malabar parthas. Chicken tandoori was good too.
My visit was awesome . This restaurant has an amazing ambience. The restaurant has miniature bull heads attached on the walls giving a religious ambience. Coming to food, we had hariyali kebab in the starters, hyderabadi Biriyani, bhuna gosht with nan, butter paneer, baked Rosogolla and ice cream among which, I found the Biriyani and butter paneer exquisitely delicious. The staff were courteous.
This place has my heart. Where to start I don't know. I love everything about them. Food quality is amazing. I love the food over their. The quantity of food is just perfect.
We went to this restaurant for a Sunday lunch as typical Chinese or North Indian food got monotonous for us. Located at Deshopriyo Park, this place serves you delicious South Indian food. However they have a separate menu card for other kinds of food as well. Ambience is pretty good with beautiful wall painting. I even liked the utensils as well. They serve complementary spiced milk. We ordered for Meen Pochikadu which was made of basa fish. It was basically fried fish in batter along with coconuts and tastes good. For main course we had rice and chicken Chettinad and it was just awesome. Soft, tender chicken pieces in a spicy gravy in Chettinad style. Staff was also good and service was prompt. I would like to try other items as well next time.

Love the food and the ambience. Yes they are known for the awesome South Indian cuisine (veg and non veg). Of course I am a fan of Southern cuisine ... Yet I cannot ignore the North Indian food served here. It's the one of the best in Kolkata, do try Chicken and Jhinga (prawn) Tandoori.
I will visit again, and again... And many more times. Almost addicted.

Four of us visited the restaurant a few days back and the food was extremely disappointing. The starters were ok, but the main course was a disaster. The mutton was extremely chewy and the goan fish curry was so bitter we couldn’t even have it. We are not someone who complain but the main course was so disappointing, we complained and wrote the same in the feedback form they give. Didn’t charge for that one fish curry. Next morning I got a call from the chef asking us to visit the restaurant again so that he can serve us better food without any charge.

We two of us visited again to Tamarind after informing the chef. We were taken extremely good care and the food was fantastic. Both the Managment and the chef were present there all throughout and they apologized for the last time’s bad experience. I understand mistakes can happen and do happen and it’s the lessons you learn from it and how you rectify it is what matters. We were also given the dishes that we found disappointing last time. At the end when we asked for the bill, they said it’s a treat from them. I really appreciate their gesture and I’ll surely visit them again, thanks.

This place is good for having some south Indian delicacies. I had Appam and Vegetable Stew with it.
A wonderful restaurant located near deshapriya park serving great South Indian food. Loved the ambience and decor. The staff is extremely welcoming. They served us with complementary butter milk at first.
We had chicken chettinad with Appam and Malabari Paratha. The Chettinad was heavenly and went so well with both the breads. Next we ordered Hyderabadi Mutton Biriyani which too was very spicy and too good. The meat was very soft and juicy. The biriyani was more than enough for two.
We did not have any dessert but were served with complementary paans at the end. Unlike usual paans it had some white sugary content inside the betel leaf. It was very good too. Our total bill was around Rs.850.
Will definitely be back to try other dishes. Highly recommended.
Everytime I returned to Kolkata I used to eat here. Over the years. It was the first restaurant to serve non veg south Indian food. The quality is still the same. However, I was disaly with their Hyderabadi Biryani this time. It tasted like a masala Kolkata biryani. It was a weird concoction. I never had their biryani before. But I tried for the first time and didnot like it. Apart from this the rest are very good. Possibly the only authentic south indian non veg restaurant in Kolkata.
I always eat out here. They serve delicious foods from Chinese to Mughal Cuisine to South Indian Food
100% would recommend this place for to eat out. They have food festivals always around Durga Puja and New Year and Christmas !

One of the most popular combo Appam and Mutton Stew. Tastes great and a must have healthy dish. Appart from that their kebabs are just so good. One must try out new dishes from the new menu. Service is always great. Here you would get a private dinning room for any kind of formal and informal events. All together a very good place for family dinning. This is a slice of chettinad cuisine right here in kolkata! I have been to this place many times, whenever I crave a chettinad curry with appams. We ordered kori gassi (chicken), Avial, ambat (daal) and appams, the food was right on flavours and taste as I have had an opportunity to experience this cuisine in Bangalore and Bombay and so can safely say this is one of the best places in kolkata to have a Konkan meal!

This is one of my favourite restaurants in the city. Right from the decor to the food everything is top notch. The best feature of this restaurant is how simple yet perfect it is and that applies to their food, staff, decor everything. I have visited this place more than 5 times and I can easily say that it is a family favourite for a simple yet delicious meal.
Food : My recommendations from what I have ate so far would be -
1) The Massa Stew : A light coconuty stew that's really light on your stomach without cutting down on the taste.
2) Chicken Chettinad : Love this spicy, south Indian curry. It tickles your taste buds and tastes yummy.
I would recommend having these with Appams. My personal favourite is the plain Appam.
Ghosht Biryani : Again it doesn't taste exactly like the traditional biryani that you eat from Mughlai food joints. It's delectable and a must try !
Chicken butter masala : A quintessential classic and must have if you are a Mughlai food lover.
Dessert
Double ka meetha - I am not someone who's fond of sweets in general and far from having a sweet tooth but this dessert can actually give sweets from renowned brand names a run for their money. The sweetness is not too overpowering and it is perfectly concocted with the malai and kesar drizzled on top. Love it to bits!
Also, the staff and their professionalism is mentionworthy. This place also serves you with a pot of cool butter milk as a welcome drink which comes complementary. And not to forget, paan at the end of your meal.
Want to have a good South Indian meal? Then that's exactly what tamarind offers.. they have North Indian food too which I'm yet to try so...
I have been here multiple times and I find that the food is great. We ordered mutton uppu Kari (Chettinad) and Malabar paratha - both were delectable. Though the mutton dish was not as spicy as the original chettinad is supposed to be, it was good nonetheless. I enjoyed the chicken stew as well. The complimentary chaas and pan were refreshingly welcome always..😋

Excellent food. No doubt the best chettinad chicken. Garam gulab jamun with vanilla ice cream was just super. Location very central. Ample parking is available just in the side street. Though the space is limited. But no doubt great food at reasonable rates. A must try.

Located right opposite Deshapriya park, the south Indian menu of this restaurant looked very enticing. We ordered Hyderabadi Biryani, Malabar paratha, mutton uppu Kari, Malabar fish curry for us and appam and mutton stew for our kid. The food was great, as close as authentic Malabar and Chettinad cuisine could be. The aplam and mutton stew was perfect for the kid. The welcome drink of buttermilk garnished with curry leaves and mustard seeds was refreshing.
The location was very convenient, and most importantly there was a lane next to it, where we could easily park the car.

This place had been on my bucket list for a long long time and finally I visited there. It is located in deshapriya park exactly opposite to DKS sports club.
The ambience of this place is completely in South Indian style. It has huge pictures hung on the walls and decorations which will take you back to the states of South India. They serve in copper glasses and butter milk is given as complementary to everyone. Amazing gesture I must say!!
Coming to food they both have authentic non veg South Indian dishes and also north Indian counterparts. We went for south Indian side totally as that is my favourite. First we ordered coorg mutton fry which was a mutton starter with an amazing flavour to it. The mutton were extremely soft and tender and was a perfect preparation. Then we went for their authentic Hyderabadi mutton biryani which is a must order if you visit here! The biriyani had an amazing south Indian flavour to it with perfect mixture of spices and tasted slightly spicy. The mutton pieces were huge and too good. Everything was flawless about it. Then we ordered their another authentic dish- chettinad chicken. It was nicely cooked with soft pieces of chicken in it. It tasted slightly flat in front of the biriyani and starter. I was way too satisfied with the food.
Service was good and decent. They took a bit long to order the main dish.
I would highly recommend this place for authentic non veg South Indian food.

The oldest memory I have about this place is when I used to go there with my mom when I was way younger and have appam and chicken chettinad every single time. I visited this place after so many years and as usual ordered the usual dishes. The chicken chettinad tasted delicious with nice cloves infusion. The appam are pancakes and they were soft and too good. We tried the plain and egg ones...I preferred the plain one more as it is lighter. For starters we tried the Kori Neirost and it was nice...a lot like kebabs just with curry leaves! They served us with complimentary buttermilk and paan at the end. The paan was yummy!.
After a busy shopping day me and my sister went to Tamarind for Lunch. It was my second visit after 8 years but the authenticity and purity are still the same as my first visit 8 years back. First time I went to attend a birthday party, they had banquet hall and lots of varieties in South & North Indian foods.
They maintained the food quality and the taste. I had pudina paratha and one chicken dish. I liked the paratha most because it was soft inside but crispy in outside.

Been here for a couple of times. The taste is unique. A little bit overpriced. Prominent location. As the name suggests, there is a predominant sour (like tamarind) taste in many of its' delicacies, more like South Indian dishes (but non vegiteraian). This unmatched taste gives this restaurant an edge over other similar outlets.

During my puja days I went to this place twice. This famous authentic dine out destination is really appreciable for the quality of food they offer . Staffs are very well mannered and helpful.
From the menu we ordered Tawa Fish , Hydrabadi chicken biriyani , murg shahi korma , nolen gurer icecream , sahi tukda and we fall in love with all of them .This place is a little bit overpriced but that is totally justified according to the food what they serve. I wish to visit this place again.

Tamarind has always been one of the favourite dine-out destinations for me and my family. The location is convenient, the decor is authentic and beautiful, the staff are courteous and food, of course, is delicious. My favourites here are-
Chakori Kebab, Coorg Mutton Fry, Hyderabadi Biryani, Coriander Rice, Erachi curry (highly recommended, the mutton will melt in your mouth), Murg Hariyali, Chicken Chettinad. Also, do try their appam with the mutton stew, it's the stuff of gastronomical dreams.

Visited this place at Nabami (Durga Puja'18) night. While other resturants were bursting with people this one was relatively peaceful. So, we went in. The manager was able to provide a table for eight within 20 minutes.
The inside is well decorated and the ambience is nice. The waiter was very friendly and patient. He explained all the food items we were interested about and told us that he would customize it according to our taste(the spices).
They took 15 mins to serve the food. We took mutton biriyani, chicken tikka masala and murg green curry. The flavour and taste is quite good. The spices are so well balanced. The quantity of food was okayish. Prices are a bit high but they don't compromise the quality.

Tamarind is sort of our family's favourite restaurant. Every Durga puja when we descend on to Kolkata, we pay a customary visit to Tamarind. South Indian non-vegetarian food doesn't get any better. This time we ordered a crab meat soup and a veg alisa (coconut based soup), fish ajwaini tikka, Hyderabadi Gosht biriyani, Kadhai Gosht, egg Appam, tandoori roti with bagara baingan. The mutton in the biriyani was just melt in the mouth. However the highlight of the night was the Meen Porichadu, a Kerala style fish batter fried. We almost order this every time. No extra oil, no fat or fishy smell and a delicate spice mix....absolute bliss. The Nolen gurer ice cream is another dessert speciality we never miss. The service is professional but this being a Durga ashtami night, it was made even more fabulous by the senior steward Robert and his deputy Ganesh who were wearing bright smiles even amidst the crowd pressure which made the food taste even better. More people in the Police and emergency health services need to take a leaf out of their book- How to keep it cheerful even when pressures are high.

Coming to the food, we ordered azwani fish, kurk chicken starters.. Main course was Chicken Lababder, pulao, butter nun and green hyderabadi chicken..food quality and quantity was really good and tasty... All the dishes were perfectly cooked.. ❤️
