This is by far the best place to have south indian food in Kolkata as per my opinion, it may seem a bit pricy but ranging soft & fluffy idlis , crispy dosas and hot piping vadas with special chutney are a delight to have on any day.
This is a hidden gem. Pocket friendly piece and no compromise on food and taste. Newspaper and Dried leaf packing was great to see. Only sambar packed in a plastic container. Dosa was excellent but I asked to separate the potato unfortunately they put it inside. I ordered one special chutney but they provided same chutney twice. I thought they will mix onion with potato but they send it separately. Such a confusing restaurant. But sambar got the full marks. I would love to try again but will prefer seat and eat.
Ramakrishna lunch home more popularly known as bhupendra mansion (the premise name) or even so 'Bhuppi'..
Have been visiting here since eternity.. from years since a kid.. it serves one of the best idlis in town.. which melts the moment u take it in your mouth..
The place is bustling with morning walkers .. n u hv to wait to get a seat.. however wait is not that long because it is fast moving.. it is a quaint restaurant.. nothing fancy in this place no formal sitting.. no decor.. but it's just the food why u wld go there .
Soft melting idlis . Crisp vadas.. n filter 'Kafee' (coffee).. served also traditionally in steel glass n vessel...
There is more to the menu.. however they r normal dosas n uttapam n likes..
Do not miss idli with special chutney.. n filter coffee.. it just cannot fail you!!
N yes a place which is just for all age group . Kid to parents to grand parents to all.. n all wld love it..
Excellent place for all time south indian food. Their fluffy, hot idlis are the best. There was a time when this place used to have a lot of waiting. The people who are loyal to this place visit it even today inspite of there being so many other options. One question for the management, how do you justify the price of 2 small idlis as 80 rs ? In places like Bangalore, you can have 8 idlis for 80 rs which are equally as good as yours. Please look into the prices, maybe that is why the crowd has reduced in the recent times. Except the price, everything about this place is brilliant just like old times.
Best Idli in town. They just melt in your mouth. Ghee onion dosa is delicious too. They don’t have any such ambience, it’s quite a decent place to just sit and eat good south indian food.
Being a huge south indian lover I have been visiting this place since I was a kid. Idli , masala butter dosa and filter coffee is what I tried. Idli is a must try here. No ambience as such , the coconut chutney is 👍 sambhar is okay okay.
Want to have south indian meal.. This the place. From idli to vada to dosa every item is just perfect. Also do try their special chutney.
What a great place i have found with one of my friend who is very much regular here.
Awesome authentic south Indian food allmost at very cheap rate.
order 1 idli 1 vada onion uptapam with Special chutney...Taste was super,Staff and their service was also good.what I dont like is ambience only. toilet was too dirty also hand basin was not clean.
Like this very old south Indian joint..its near my house..been coming here for ages.. Good dosa , vada.. When u enter u get thrown with the smell of sambar.. Service is fast and promt and reasonable on the pocket
This is a gem. For breakfast that is affordable and delicious.
Food - Molgapudi idli, sambar vada and filter coffee. There is absolutely nothing bad about anything except that the Molgapudi was a little bit grittier than I prefer. I have had a lot of Molgapudi but none so gritty. A little tough to my taste buds.
Service - polite and quick
Ambience - it is a small hotel but I wish that it could have been better. Since all seats were filled I had to sit at one that was near toilet. And it was open inside is a little dungeony.
Food - 4.5/5
Service - 5/5
Ambience 2/5
They have probably the best idlis in the city. Soft, fluffy, hot, and perfect. Their vada, dosas, and uttapams are also quite nice. And I simply love their filter coffee. A must try for lovers of south Indian food.
the food was hot and tasted good
This is a comfortable place serving some tasty south Indian food. The food is healthy and tasty. There isn't much wrong with this place. I would recommend this place to you.
This place is always thronging with people during breakfast time ...u can find ppl coming straight from their morning walks for a quick bite of idli and dosa.
They hv maintained their standard of food for years and years......have always seen this place like this..busy with long waiting queue .
The authentic south Indian restaurant..... The food is the priority of this place.... The authentic coconut chutney and sambar.... Yummy idlli soft as cotton.... Vadas.... Dosa... Filter coffee....
Ramakrishna which is popularly known As Bhupendra mansion is my personal favourite since childhood !!the ambience is though quiet ordinary ,the place is always full even though it’s a week day !!
I had my favourite masala dosa and idly with Sambar ,definitely relished the dinner last night !!
One thing which I really need to appreciate about this place is that even though this really old ,they have maintained their quality over the years and also the pricing which is quiet reasonable !!
Even though the place is completely crowded their service is really quick and efficient
Do visit this place folks
Recently I went to this South Indian restaurant in South Kolkata after more than 40 years and found the quality of food was as good as it was then. The place has since been upgraded with air conditioning and is as popular as it was in the past. On week ends it is difficult to get a seat without waiting for some time. A good place for people who love authentic South Indian dishes.
This place is a delight for those who love south indian food !! Everything here is served up to the mark and my personal favourite being "Sambhar Vadas"
A bit costly as compared to other south indian food serving resturants and you may have to stand in the waiting queue on sundays!
It was quite tasty and delicious...though it was not completely giving the south Indian flavour yet it felt nice, food quantity was ample and hunger killer.
Everything in this place is perfect except that it is too expensive for a South indian breakfast joint. The food and service is very good. Definitely worth exploring once.
This place is one of the hidden gems in Kolkata. Looks like an old house from outside but when you enter. This place is the show stopper for the south Indian food lovers.
From the solf idli, dosa... Crunch vada to the famous filter coffee of South India you will get here everything.
So what are you waiting for fix a plan for a morning breakfast any day and I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Don’t be fooled by the exterior, this place may look like a small eatery in an old bengali makan but it packs big flavours.
Also known as Bhupendra Mansion after the building it is housed in, i have been visiting this place for over 2 decades now and it still has the same taste. Its a favourite among morning walkers for breakfast but you can go here at lunch or dinner time and it would still be the same.
It is not a very large space and is mostly quite busy but worth the wait if you have to stand in queue.
You may think that the menu is not very elaborate but most things on the menu are worth trying. I personally love their sambhar. We’ve tried most stuff on the menu but our repeat orders are
~Paper Masala Dosa
~Sambhar Vada
~Idly with special chutney
~Filter coffee.
One disclaimer; their regular filter coffee is very sweet so we order without sugar and add it later.
The staff is courteous and prompt.
Overall a must try !
Located in the bylanes of southern avenue.. it may be a bit difficult for 1st timers as the place is in an old building on the ground floor..
This place can never ever go wrong with their south Indian..
Just order anything any it will definitely satisfy your taste buds...
The sambar and chutney is to die for... The filter coffee is made to perfection..
They have not compromised on the quality over the years.. Plain simple food to satisfy Ur soul
You want an authentic south indian food spot.. this is the perfect place. Very well served and simple place. Dont go for the interiors, seems a home transformed into the place. But the authenticity touched the soul. U want to go anywhere else than stock exchange for breakfast, this is the place !!
Ordered for Idli and Masala Vada. They have retained the same taste and flavour over the years and maintained the quality. Simple, soul satisfying and good value for money.
One of the old looking houses serving good south indian in kolkata, The food is good , the service is fast and the coffee comes in the south coffee tumblers.
what to order:
Dosa: variety of dosas and have your selection , all of them seem to be good, only downfall the size of the dosa has been made small.
Idly and Vada: The best combo to ask for , as the food comes in per piece basis. Also ask for the freshly made hot vadas, they are yum and crunchy.
Order the onion uttapam and them to made it extra crunchy , its yumm.
Also the masala vada is nice and yumm, call for it. Ask for the special Coconut Chutney, it is a dry and thick version of the normal chutney served there.
Lastly have the filter coffee which is yumm, but a little sweet , so instruct before hand to put less sugar.
My week isn't complete without a visit to 'Bhupi'! Absolutely love their steaming hot sambhar-idli and the paper masala dosa. Their service is quick, their food is always super fresh and I love how the servers never let a bowl of sambhar or chutney go empty! This simple place is a favourite of generations after generations of people and is easily the best South-Indian food joint in the city
I am a true South Indian food fan and have had a fair share of it during a decade spent in Bangalore. I can eat Dosas for every meal. So I jumped at the opportunity of Sunday Breakfast.
The place is like a line/military restaurant inside a house abd you get quick food served from a short menu of dosa idla and vadas.
What I ordered:
-Sada Vada : very nice
-Ghee Butter Dosa : very good. Homemade butter was excellent and added a beautiful flavor to the dosa.
-Masala Onion Vada : brilliant one! The flavors are bang on and one of the best I have had
-Filter Coffee : a little too sweet but still pretty good
The chutneys and sambhar is really nice too!
Visited for breakfast today.
Absolute delight with memories of old style Udupi tiffin rekindled.
Started with idli eaten home style dunked in plate full of sambhar and chatni.
Followed it half portions of upma and ghee masala dosa.
Best part: sambhar and chutney absolutely perfect balance of sour and minimum spicing
A definite visit which can turn into regular jaunts for breakfast.
Pricing is wonderful for pockets.

Commonly known as BHUPENDRA MANSION after the building's name in the ground floor of which it is setup, has been in existence since time immemorial. My mom calls it "paradise for South Indian food Lovers".
Mom and I are idli lovers, while dad enjoys his uttapam and my little sister is a dosa fanatic.
So, Basically I have tried all the major dishes here quite a number of times and therefore will be covering all the aspects in this review.
Starting with the Idlis which are soft and fluffy, they taste real good with the sambar chutney. In fact, their sambar is so good (to give you an idea, it's better than that of Raj restaurant. Those who've been there can figure out) that with one plate idli, I easily have two to three bowl of their hot sambar and the best thing is there's no extra charge for subsequent refills, which is not the case in many other south Indian restaurants. They also have Jain sambar, and as I speak of this it reminds me of my sister Nikita Vora Who loves the sambar here.
Next coming to Dosas, we relish Ghee butter Sada Dosa and Onion Dosa the most. Dosas are crisp and the smell of white butter on dosa makes my mouth water.
Mix vegetable onion uttapam is another stomach filling dish with many vegetables. It is heavy and at the same time, very tasty.
Finally, in beverages, hot filter coffee. Though, the decoction of coffee beans isn't so strong, still their filter coffee tastes amazing. And I prefer to have Masala vada with it, whenever I visit this place for an evening snack. Masala vada are famous south Indian snack made of Chana Ka Dal mixed with onion, curry patta, green chillies. You can also have it with chutney. Do give it a try if you haven't yet.
In a nutshell, food and service is the best here and the interiors are simple like a typical south Indian room. You won't be disappointed.
With @krisha Shah @nidhi Patel
I have ordered food from here. They make the best idlis and the sambar is to die for. The dosa is pretty good too. If you want delicious dosas and light as air idlis, this would be the place.
amazing place to enjoy South Indian food tucked away off lake road. Delicious food. I personally feel that their sambhar is the best I have had. Definitely worth a visit.
.had to call him several times
food was good but poor delivery service. order arrived 30 mins late.
Their filter coffee is something I crave. This place know their food. I have tried Butter masala dosa, mixed veg uttapam, idli sambar chutney. Everything is sooo yummy.
Very good food indeed.
In fact I was surprised to see them accepting online orders, because when I had asked why they didn't go online, their answer reflected a conservative outlook, which I respected.
Those who are regulars will know the unassuming facade; the door opening into a relatively small but air conditioned restaurant. Food is served quickly, and is wholesome and delicious.
The prices are reasonable, and I would recommend the sambar.
I have always had one query about Ramakrishna Lunch Home: why do they have such odd timings?
6 am to 11 am is not lunchtime, and 3 pm is too late for lunch.
Is it more of a breakfast-and-dinner home?
My suggestion: keep a breakfast slot, but do stay open during the conventional lunch hours toi. Take a break between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm instead. Is anyone listening?
Our kiddo has made us fans of idli,vada,dosa,uttampams..Eventhough we homecook it everyweek ,still this lunch home is close to our heart and tummy 😋 ...This is no place for chai par charcha..u get seated,u order ,u eat and leave as they have a queue as per our observation.
You give less sambhar, we know. Now, even chutney is insufficient.
food is always fresh and yummy.

Excellent tamilnadu style dishes that you can savour in kolkata. Special mention of their sambar and coconut chutney which is almost authentic to what you get down south.
very tasty and was delivered quickly. good quality and quantity also. one is enough for a person
One of the hidden gems for south Indian food! This is located in a lane near dehapriya park and is basically an old Bengali house that has been converted into an eatery. Ambience is typically what you would expect in a south Indian eatery in Kolkata with plastic chairs and steel utensils. Service is pretty good and it gets crowded in the mornings by joggers and people who just finished their morning workout. I've had to wait outside a couple of times to get a table, so you can imagine. Their idlis, Vadas, doasas and coffee are top notch and you can't go wrong with anything from their menu. Sambhar and chutney are to die for. They use a speical white butter dollop placed inside the dosa so that is pretty unique also the idlis are super soft and Highly recommended. Surprisingly they are rated 3.9, god knows how. Amazing food and they open at 6am onwards.
very good loved the experience
One of my favourite place to enjoy south Indian food .The idlis they serve are hot, soft and thin. Chutney & sambar by taste are superb . Weekends & early morning , its overcrowded , but waiting is worthy.
Just don’t think about ambience , the food is at par to any good South Indian resturant in Chennai or banglore . Filter coffee is a must try here . Every item in the menu is just perfect !!!

Visited there yesterday. Around 8.30 in the mrng and the place was housefull. We had to wait for 15 min for a table. The idli and the vadas are the star of the place and the special chutney. The dosas are just okayish. The VADAS are simply the best. Light, fluffy and hot. I have not tasted such vadas before anywhere. I have not given 5 star because the place is overpriced. INR 35 per pc of idli and vada. Special chutney is priced at INR 40.Pocket pinch: 780 for 6 idli, 6 vada, 2 spcl cutney, 1 ghee butter paper dosa and 2 masala dosa.
Please note before ordering idli and vada..that there are only 1 piece per plate and not 2
I found this South Indian food place while browsing through Zomato today. Just for some light evening snack we ordered Idlis.
idlis: It was hot at the time of delivery and while eating, felt very soft in the mouth. I felt the Idlis are a bit overpriced compared to the portions they serve, but the softness of it and the flavour of the Sambar and Chutney will completely compensate for it. 2 pieces are enough for an average apetite person for an evening munch.
White Chutney: It was a thick paste and not the regular watery consistency chutney which is generally served along with South Indian dishes. Dont know if it was the special or the normal chutney but it tasted really good, just lip-smacking. The quantity was huge.
Both the idly and chutney came packed in banana leaves.
Sambar: This was the best of all, simply amazing. It had some vegetables in it and was of a thick consistency, which impressed me the most. It's taste was appetizing and had a nice aroma.
Overall a very satifying experience of the first time ordering from here.
very delicious and up to the mark.
that special chutney is not special at all. it's the same chutney

On Sunday mornings you just have to wait in a long queue to get accommodations. Service is little sloppy else could have given it perfect rating.
Coming to the food you gonna like it from vadas to dosa n utthpam all are equally good.. The white butter which they use on dosas it makes them more delicious! 😋 perfect to deal with South Indian cravings. Pocket friendly
awesome food, zomato dilevered on time
typical south Indian chutney n vada n yummy it is.. south Indians must try..
Just proving the taste of South Indian. My dear north Indian bhailog and behenlog just try this restaurant if u prefer south Indian it's chutney and sambhar tastes really great. Great south indian food provided by them. Nominal rates also makes the customer happy.
Decent place for good South Indian food. Liked their masala dosa and onion masala uttapam.
I found the price of filter coffee a bit high (55 each).
Its a small Restaurant in a ground floor house...
The best Idly I have ever had,
including the idli s i had in chennai, Bangalore or other so called best South Indian restaurants...
I had traditional idli , Podi idli
(chilli powder smeared on idli), sada vada, and massala dhosa.
Though price of idli/vada a bit high Rs 50/ piece. But it worth it.
all items were very tasty but idli is THE BEST.
A must go place who loves South Indian food.
Else you will miss the Best Idli on earth
its like idli got vanished in the mouth like a fine mishti paan.
Really awesome food.
Ambience is not so good but homely.
its on Lake road (Sarat bose end 100 feet away)
Opens 6 am -12 noon
eve at 4 pm -9.30 pm
MONDAY CLOSED
All vegetarian place with good just awesome , best place for South Indian food in kolkata, only it is very simple in decor- old types, but clean, don’t go by the looks of the place - food is really good
taste and the portion size is perfect.
though takeaway isn't a great idea for me
staff is okay
ambience is not bad
cleanliness and hygiene is upto the mark

This is one of the oldest udupi restaurant in deshopriyo park area. Restaurant has that old charm specially crowded during morning hours in weekend. People njoying there dosa and filter coffee. Service was quite fast and friendly. Tried there butter masala dosa and filter coffee where dosa came with dollop of white butter it was perfectly crispy prepared with fresh batter . Filter coffee was quite authentic one could get in Kolkata.
Authentic & Famous Restaurant. Known for its South Indian Cuisine, it still serves quality food. It's popularity is not limited to the city of Kolkata but also famous all over India.
It is indeed one of the oldest places in Kolkata serving South Indian food. Now, it is popularly known as Bhupendra Mansion. It had been closed for almost more than a year because of covid. But now, I am happy to say that it has recently reopened. The food is good, idly , sambhar, vada, dosa s,etc .This place also serves good filter coffee.
Please Note: This is not accepting payments via cards. Only cash!
New Update is that I came to know just yesterday, it's not accepting cards on Sundays only!
Next visit today 7th August 2022, same opinion about food and place
Great food...very delicious...Clean and well maintained... They serve superb south indian dishes and you will get idly batter too...
Landed up here for those quintessential south Indian breakfast cravings you have living in a hostel. Must say, it was not a bad decision at all. Initially was a bit skeptical of trying this place, considering the variety and options in the menu are limited and a restaurant named 'Rao's Udipi Home'nearby has many more options at a cheaper price. Nonetheless, was not disappointed after dominating Idli, Ghee Paper Plain Dosa, Utthapam, Vada and filter coffee. These were accompanied with unlimited refills of sambar and coconut chutney. The idli was freshly made, almost melt in the mouth. The vada was crispy from the outside and well cooked on the inside and went really well when inundated in sambar. The dosa was well prepared too and you could taste that it was made in ghee. Giving it four stars for the relatively high prices and less choices in the menu. Satisfied though.

The best place for having Idly. Awesome soft and fresh. Not to mention outstanding oothapum
Most authentic South India food. The price is very reasonable with very high quality taste. One of the best in Ballygunge
Very tasty & authentic South Indian food. Price wise ok. Paid Parking available.
I used to eat breakfast here very often (mostly plain dosa and sada vada) they no doubt! Have the tastiest south indian food I have ever had, and I've been to many restraunts in Kolkata, they are the best, fast service so you won't starve lol, delicious chutney and sambar, best breakfast place!! Highly recommended 🙏❤
Ps. I have been craving their food for the longest time, as I'm not it kolkata anymore, it's been over a year and a half but I still think of their dosa and vada all the time, being really serious 🥺 can't wait to eat at bhupendra mansion again ❤
