Went to this particular outlet few months back. Ordered rice, chicken sheel e baata, kochu paata diye chingri, dhokar dalna and chicken dak bunglow.
Coming to the food one by one now:
Chicken sheel e baata: Absolutely fell in love with this. I guess this has to be a rendition of some bhorta from Bangladesh. Whatever it was, 'twas hella tasty! Chicken cooked off in onion, ginegr and garlic and then pasted. Can't go wrong.
Kochu paata diye chingri: First time they bought the dish, it had an off smell. Told them and they changed it immediately, which I liked. The taste was good with bold flavours of mustard and good quality prawns.
Dhokar dalna: I found the dhoka to be a bit on the tougher side and the gravy lacked a certain zing that may have been provided by a bit more of cumin.
Chicken dak bungalow: I had better dak bungalows. That's all I can say. It was all good and everything, but somehow I couldn't quite like it as the other dishes.
I would also recommend you guys to try out posto bora, chingri malai curry and their Ilish dishes. They are good.

This place is heaven for Bengali food lovers. The dishes are amazing though some dishes need a little improvement in taste, though the quality and freshness of the ingredients used compensate for that. Highly recommended.

I rarely give 5 star for food unless it ticks all my expectations. This one did during lockdown. Each of the items were brilliant specially The Dal. I don't think u will need any side dish for such a Dal. Yes ghujhuri aloo bhaja will be a good bet. But if I order anything else other than Kochupapa chingri it's will be DHAKAI DAL FRY. Even the fish fry is tangy but tasty Overall all the items were good and toothsome

Sorry for the late post. Recenly Kasturi restaurant was giving out handfull of offers on some of their dishes, mostly Bengali Cuisines, so being a hardcore foody, thought of getting carried away with it.
First notable thing after entering the restaurant was its ambience, more a retro type with Kolkata at its backdrop. Also includes pictures of eminent film artists.
Among the offered cuisines we started with Fish Kabiraji, then ordered Mutton Kasha, Chicken Bhuna and Dab Chingri. The Bengali Polau & Fried Rice were not included in the offered list.
All were up to the mark, the quantity of rice and polau was just ok for two person. You have to take 2plates. We all were waiting for the Dab Chingri eagerly, but on its arrival, we were disappointed by its taste/ preparation. The fish seemed to have been boiled and mixed with the so called "GRAVY", it was not peering out the juicy extract from inside on biting.... The essence of the "Dab" was also missing. The fish kabiraji was good, but somewhere the fish fillete inside was needed to be chewed longer. Rest hospitalization from the boys inside was also great.

We went there for lunch on a busy Sunday. We were starving after shopping for Durga Puja. So we decided to have our lunch with some authentic bengali cuisine. It is located on Dover lane near Singhi park Durga Puja pandel. There was a que for lunch. We have to wait for almost half an hour to have our seat. We don't know if they have table booking service, it is highly recommended to book a table before going to the place.
The interior has nothing special to mention, only thing is it is properly air-conditioned. The light is slightly dim.
We ordered alu vaja, bhat, chingri diye dal, sukto, begun vaja, ilish vapa, Kochu sak diye ilish. The sizes of the ilish pieces was as well as the taste. All the food items were delicious. The staffs are very friendly. The pocket pinch for two, including taxes was roughly around 1200.
As Kasturi has a special recognition for their expertise in Bangladeshi food, they didn't live up to the mark, having said that the ilish dishes were mouth watering.
The slightly drawback according to me is, they do not provide finger bowl. Otherwise I shall recommend it for everyday lunch or dinner.

The Kochupata chingri bhapa, chicken sheel e bata, bhetki paturi, mutton kasha, chicken dakbunglow were the Lipsmaking dishes that we ordered, both the quality and the quantity were satisfying.... The staff was courteous while serving us... The price point was so reasonable for the particular ongoing offer, that it was a five star deal

It was a family outing. I have ordered from this place many times before, but had never been to any of its outlets physically. We were shopping and wondering around and grabbed the opportunity to pay an actual visit to our favourite Bengali Restaurant. It was satisfying as usual.

We ordered fish kabiraji and fish fry for starters. Both were good, fresh and juicy. The Kabiraji was crispy, fluffy and huge!! For mains,we had basanti pulao, kochupata Bata Chingri,Mutton Do-piyaja and Dab Chingri.Well, most of you must be aware of their famous Kochupata Chingri, i.e.Prawns cooked with Colocasia Leaves. It is their signature dish and well worth a mention. The savourines of the Prawn combined with the pungency of the mustard oil brings out its true Bengali flavour.I love it and I can have a full plate of steamed rice just with this dish. The pulao was fragrant. Mutton was well-cooked. I just found it a bit oily. The Dab-chingri was yummy too.I just felt that it could have been a tad bit sweeter.

Bong Alert: People who are not accustomed to Bengali cuisine might find the extravagant use of mustard oil a bit overwhelming, but trust me,that extra dash of oil is what brings the flavours alive. So do try once.

I feel the restaurants signature dish is Sorshe diye chingri bhapa. You should have it with white rice and nothing else at the end of your meal,so that it stays with you as get back home. The Mutton Dak Banglow is quite mouth watering. So I recommend you should have both these dishes when you visit Kasturi. Thanks.

Kochupata path diye Chingri bhapa was the ultimate dish ...unique ..different ...flavourful...gave out of the world feeling

Chooski r payesh was also different but very nice

Dhaka bhetki biryani was more of a pulao with chunks of bhetki ...sweet in taste ...but the fragrance and flavour perfect of a biryani...should it be bit more spicy than sweet that would have made the day

Dhonepata kachalonka diye mutton seemed bland but jhaal caught up back of the tongue...perfect blend to the sweet biriyani..spicy but not heavy on your stomuch

Those looking for authentic Bengali cuisine have to try any of the Kasturi outlets. We ordered from the Dover Lane branch last week and the experience was great. The delivery was fast and efficient. The 'Sampoorna Bhoj' thali is big enough for sharing between two people. Simple dishes taste wonderful when cooked with care. We had the 'Ruhi Kaalia' version of the thali. The price is very reasonable considering the amount of food in it. We also had rice and 'Ruhi Dhakai Rezala' which was very good too. Special mention, for the 'Alu Posto', which was the best of the lot.

Restaurant name : Kasturi
Location : Gariahat, South Kolkata
Bong Platter : Kochupata Diye Chingri Bhapa
Rate : 4.5/5
Price : Unbelievable just INR 120
The irresistable lip-smacking fingerlicking platter will would make anyone crave for more. This is not just a dish but love, you can call it fish love.
To all the fish lovers or prawn lovers simply order this awesome dish to get the combined flavours of mustard oil, posto baata ( poppy seeds grinded to paste ), Kochupata, baby prawns.
What are you waiting for non-vegetarian fish lovers? If not allergic to prawns then go for it till you are full.
Kochupata is the traditional Bengali or rather Bangal style food that you can enjoy with prawns cooked in thick posto baata gravy and mustard oil. Have it with Basmati Steamed Rice and feel heavenly.

Post that I ordered different dishes from this place for my office lunch whenever senior officers or directors came to kolkata for any conference or meeting. Everytime they enjoyed & loved the food like anything. End of every Lunch It was good to hear from the people that Kolkata is the best destination for food.

The quintessential bangali bhoj as we like to call it indulges one person to eat until you are unable to move anymore. This is a concept prevalent in all of our bengali family. A mother's hope that her child even after having a plate full of rice may still be hungry is an emotion which cannot be described. However, over the years such pampering left us with utter love for food and specially bangali food. In such events we happen to visit this particular place located in the lanes of Gariahat beside Spencer's. The staff were of such cooperative nature. We were overwhelmed with the spread.

We ordered,

•Pomphret fry: Fries are a distinct part of any meal. I experienced many sort of fries over the years but a whole pomphret crisp fried was something unusual for me. Personally, i love pomphret in any form and such was presented in form of fry was flattering. The fish was crisp on the outside and a bit juicy on the inside.

•Rice: This is a regular staple for any bangali. The dish which compliments this staple is created to keep this in high regard. Being a bengali myself, rice is my favorite staple.

•Kochu pata diye chingri: A mouth-watering dish made with prawns and curry leaves. The smashed curry leaves cooked with prawns and the mustard oil spread all over in the end is something that i would love to have again and again.

•Daal fry: Daal being an important dish in the course, this in particular with many sort of vegetables creates a thickness to the dish and adds the flavours of the vegetables to the daal.

•Mutton dak bungalow: A perfect end game to the perfect meal. Mutton is a bengalis heart beat and such an amalgamation definitely brings out the best of all the dishes. The almost faded sour taste in the mutton makes the dish all the more drool-worthy.

I love every bengali dish ever created but this was an exceptional experience.

Kasturi Garden Restro & Banquet..

It's a must...

Well my grandfather used to say "you can take the bangali out of Bengal but you cannot take bengal out of a Bangali"

No matter in which part of India I have traveled ,every time you come across a bengali family you bond immediately .And food plays an irreplaceable role in that. It is the emotion that keep us attached to our roots and brings a smile to our face. I ,myself am a "bhojonroshik" bengali and every time we visit a Bengali restaurant we become this super finicky and unapologetically judgmental master chef.

But the simplicity and loving meal at Kasturi just won our heart.

Situated amidst the hustling streets of Gariahat ,the place has a no fuss decor .The furnishing is kept formal against the backdrop of walls painted with images of the city.

The menu offers a great spread that includes some of the long lost delicacies of Bengal.

☘️Sada Bhaat with Dal Fry--The dal was cooked with the addition of peas that made it more delicious.Served with plain rice ,the flavour was absolutely spot on.

☘️Fish Batter Fry-- The fish was absolutely a winner with the crisp and crunch coating. Served piping hot with mustard sauce i stuffed myself with three of these .

☘️Kochupata bata chingri-- Prawns cooked with Taro leaves in mustard paste that is balanced beautifully by the addition of coconut that tones down the pungency of the mustard. This is definitely a must have for every bengali kid to understand the diversity that Bengali cuisine holds in itself. That extra dose of mustard oil is all that makes the difference.

☘️Peas Polao with Mutton Dakbanglow-- The spicy mutton curry was paired perfectly with the light polao. The sauteed peas accentuates the taste of fluffy grains of rice with a delicious fragrance of fresh ghee coming off .The delish gravy of the mutton was lip smacking with the polao.

☘️Alu posto-- Only a bengali understands the never ending fuss about posto in alu posto. The perfect ratio of poppy seed paste that makes the dish not too soggy yet the paste mixes well with each piece of potato creating a stir in your palette.

The food speaks for itself but nevertheless the servers are polite and always ready to attend you with a smile on their face.

I used to think that our mothers can cook the best bengali dishes than any food joints but Kasturi definitely changed my opinion. Kasturi expertises in authentic Dhakai cuisine at reasonable price and located in Dover lane beside Spencers Gariahat. The ambience was simple and classy with paintings of the walls of Jamini Roy style. There is no reason for not trying out this place. Therefore I went for lunch at Kasturi and ordered some of their signature dishes.

☑Kochu pata diye chingri: I have had this dish before at home as well as at a fine dining but this was by far the best I had. That hit on the throat you get from the mustard and sweetness of prawns are worth the hype.
I had this with plain steamed rice which was a match made in heaven.
☑Fish butter fry: This is my favourite version of fried fish so I had to order this and I was extremely happy with it. Good amount of fish perfectly coated and deep fried till perfection, served hot, this item amazed me completely.
☑Mutton Daak Bunglow: Soft and succulent pieces of mutton in rich and spicy gravy was worth the money. The quality of mutton was really nice and this dish is most recommended. Though I found the gravy sweeter than I liked.
☑Chatni and Papad: I had to finish my bengali lunch in a traditional way so I had pineapple chutney and one papad which was equally good.

I enjoyed my time there and the price was really reasonable for what they served us. The service was quick and warm hospitality. I would definitely recommend this dish to everyone.

Authentic Bengali cuisine at no pocket pinch is what Kasturi promises.

The location being at a prime place such as Gariahat is very easily accessible. This restuarant is situated at a serene location and the ambiance has traditional Bengali paintings which adds to the beauty while you chomp on their delicious spread.

We had started with Fish Batter Fry which was soft inside and equally crispy outside. Being an ardent fish lover this starter had me asking for more.

Next was the Pomfret fry, the jumbo sized fish all fried and stacked up can make any Bengali hungry.

Next was the simple dal and their signature dish Kochu Pata Chingri with plain bhat and to top it all was Mutton Dukbunglow with Peas Pulao. It was heavenly.

We finished with something new know as Chosir Payesh, a popular dessert in Bangladesh.Loved it.

For a healthy homely Bengali meal I will definately head for Kasturi again.

Bengali cuisine  is a culinary style originating in Bengal, a region in the eastern part of the Indian subcontinent, which is now divided between Bangladesh and the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura and Assam’s Barak Valley. With an emphasis on fish, vegetables and lentils are served with rice as a staple diet.

This legendary restaurant boasts of housing some of the most authentic delicacies from the diversified food culture of Dhaka as well as Bengal. Overlapping at times, Bengali style of cooking has largely been infused and influenced by Dhakai cuisine since time immemorial.
All of this was evident from the gastronomic spread laid out when I dropped in for lunch.

Traditional vibes close to the roots, wonderful artworks and rich aroma of the food - everything led to a gala time.
Starting with the famous Bengali fries- Bhetki Batter Fry and Pomfret fry to the blissful 'Chosir Payesh' satiating our sweet tooth.. it was literally a heavenly affair. 'Kochupata Chingri' deserves special mention, definitely the star dish that will tug at the heartstrings of any Bangali.
To sum it all up, it was truly a bong connection I'll cherish for the days to come.

Big thanks to the management team of Kasturi restaurant for the warm service and wonderful food.

Kasturi is one of my favourite restaurants when it comes to Bengali cuisine. Recently, we visited this Dover Lane outlet for the first time. The space is pretty big and nicely decorated.

Coming to the food, we tried the following.

~ Pomphret Fry - I personally love Pomphret fish and when it is this fresh, it is absolutely divine. The fish was fried with onion and chillies until golden brown.

~ Peas Pulao - This was a simple bengali homestyle pulao with green peas, cashews and raisins. The rice was light and fluffy with a beautiful aroma of ghee or clarified butter.

~ Kochu Pata diye Chingri - This is a signature dish of Kasturi and is a must try. The dish originates from Bangladesh and consists of Kochu Pata which are the green leaves of the Taro plant with small prawns cooked in a mustard gravy.

~ Mutton Dak Bungalow - This is another dish that I loved. The Mutton was succulent and cooked to perfection in a rich Bengali style gravy.

~ Chutney & papad - No Bengali meal is complete without some chutney and papad. Pineapple chutney accompanied with some fried papad was the perfect ending to our elaborate Bengali meal.

We ate to some our heart's content and were really happy with the quality and quantity of food. The presentation of the food was nothing fancy but the true magic was in the taste. We had a lovely time and will surely be going back soon.

If you're looking for a place which serves authentic Dhakai and Bengali cuisine drop in at this eatery for pampering your taste buds.
I checked-in to this place with my family and ordered a number of lip-smaking delicacies. This place is having an accomodation of 30-35 people with beautifully lit ambiance and comfortable chairs.
We ordered:
• Fish batter Fry- The starter was fried to perfection with the right succulence of fish and outer crisp. It's combination with mustard sauce and mayonnaise dip is something to drool for. The batter fry is highly recommended for all the fish lovers.
• Steamed Rice and Daal Fry- Basmati Rice with the aromatic Daal is a soul satisfying food for the gastronomic bongs and an unbeatable combination in every Bengali home. Their flavours provide their visitors with an essence of Bengal.
• Kochu Pata Chingri- This is one of their signature dishes and I vouch you will not be getting such an innovative dish in any food joint in the city of joy and is a must try for all.
• Mutton Dak Bungalow- I am not much of a Mutton lover but was sheerly overwhelmed by the taste of this side dish with an unique blend of Indian spices. The claggy gravy will leave you licking your fingers.
• Chutney and Papad- The chutney was a little pale and was a preparation of pineapple with not the right quantity of sweet.
However, I had a nice experience. The staffs are courteous and the place gives you a homely feeling with hospitality at par. One should definitely give a visit for a better experience.

One of my favourite restaurants in Bengali cuisine. This is what I had there: - fish kasundi (as a starter) -luchi -chingri polao -alur dom -mutton kasha Every dish was lip smacking, specially polao n mutton combo was great. My favourite was luchi with mutton kasha. It made my day happier and my tummy full. Service was fast n around 7pm it was totally empty.

It was a good experience.. The flavour of each dish was good and flavourful… Service was good.. But cleanliness is not that good which is very important for the restaurant to keep the place clean and hygiene.. Washroom and the tables need cleaning.. And the MAIDA PARATHA is too oily to handle.. Overall good experience.. Will definitely visit again..

It was a good food experience! Going to a Bengali restaurant and having only veg... I was a bit sceptical...but surprisingly I had quite a few options. I chose to have the shukto mini thali where together with shukto they serve rice, Sona moong dal and jhuri alu bhaja, I also ordered separately dhokar dalna. All food items were tasty and well prepared. Gandhoraj ghol was good too.🤩

We tried several of their thalis and except Shorshe Pabda the rest were great choices. Our order for Lime soda sweet was mixed up for Shikanji, but this faux pa was redeemed with original nolen gur Ice Cream for desert. Service was fast. Place could use little better up keep in wash basin area.

The atmosphere is decent. The food items were great. Specially, the mutton was heavenly. We visited on an occasion. So there was rush and most of the items were not available including thalis. That was a disappointment. Servicing and management was slow and can be improved. But the cook and food deserve the credit.

Visited on a Monday evening. Restaurant was mostly empty. Only one other customer was seated. Atmosphere is average with algae green upholstery and brick theme wall lining in interiors with life size creatives. We were guided by the waiter on selection of dishes. We ordered Bhetki Paturi, Shorshe Hilsa and Kochupatta Diye Chingri Bhappa. The wait time was negligible. The waiter also guided us for the sequence in which the food be eaten for best savour. I can only sum it up that every bite was worth it. The aroma, the taste and the texture ....feel on taste buds... it was awesome. I made a repeat order for carrying home for relieving the tastes. Request to Admin : improvement of washroom experience. Though the fittings are from Jaguar brand, cleanliness needs improvement. Urinal/commode area needed focus. Since most customers would be using hand for meals, wash basins are practically placed. However, the taps are higher than desired. This results in water splashing onto clothes, while washing. Soap dispenser was not refilled. No paper towel was placed nearby. Notwithstanding ibid, the taste compensates all. Definitely recommend and will revisit.

A very famous place for Bengali cuisine, you should definitely try it. But I had a mixed review about their food. We ordered prawn cutlet, katla kalia mini thali and Mutton kosha bhoj. Now coming to the first one, I didn't get any flavour. Prawns were not marinated properly. Mutton wasn't properly cooked. It wasn't soft and juicy at all. But I really liked their katla kalia thali and would recommend that only.
