Good food.. beer was chilled loved the ambience and soft music.. a fag corner was missing.. or else it's altogether an awesome place for food lovers and good place to hangout out
Fabulous cocktails and specially curated menu. The Thai food is to die for lively ambience and amazing service.
I liked the place very much. Having good ambience with soft music. Food quality is also good n quantity is quite enough.
Loved the ambience and serenity. A multi quisine menu with drinks makes it a best choice in midst of the bustling streets of Kolkata.
They've got the best Thai green curry in town. Impeccable flavours and insanely authentic. Ultimate comfort food.
The chicken green thai curry with boiled rice..was too good ..enjoyed it to my hearts content...overall ambience..service ...quality of food appreciated.
Absolutely stellar food, from an even more stellar team. Yummy food, great drinks and a lovely ambience. If you're going through Thailand withdrawal, SOI is the place for you.
Tooo good a dine...must visit place if u have ur pocket loaded...
Ambience ,Food, Hospitality - EXCELLENT.2 thums up.i would recommend "SOI" to ppl who havn't tried it yet
|| SOI-the Asian Street Kitchen 🤤 ||
Oriental and Pan-Asian Cuisine is a true delight to have and it is loved by many of us. I doubt if anyone can turn down Pan-Asian food in Kolkata. With those outstanding Awadhi, Indian, Mughlai, and other Cuisines around the corner Asian Cuisine Food is making its market slowly and steadily. Due to this increasing Demand for good Authentic Pan Asian food quite a lot of restaurants have coming up in the city dedicated to meet this surge for Asian flavors.
Being a personal lover of Oriental cuisine food myself I know how we get struck by those amazing Authentic Pan-Asian Cuisine Magic. Longing for a good time with friends or family? Or even cozy up alone with some mind-blowing and refreshing drinks in a cool and sassy ambiance? then you must visit “SOI” the Asian Kitchen from the house of Zaranj, named after side-streets of Thailand. The perfect place in the City to satiate your cravings for Pan-Asian cuisine❤️With more and more Kolkatans broadening their culinary palette and wanting to experiment with food from the Orient, SOI offers the right ambience of quirky, casual Asian Street food and a perfect fine dining experience. Not many places in the city focus on exclusively Oriental and Pan-Asian cuisine and so this place was in my wish-list for quite some time 💕 Wanted to try this place since a long time as I am big fan of Pan Asian food. and heard really good reviews about SOI so one day came here for dinner with my friends.
📍 Location: This Pan-Asian Kitchen is at 26, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, right next to Indian Museum and at the beginning of Sudder Street. It is 5 minute's walking distance from Park Street Metro.
▶ Ambience/Décor/Service: The ambience of this classy casual pub restaurant reflects the street style aesthetics of the Orient spread across a wide area and it is a perfect place to try out Pan-Asian dishes with friends and family. As soon as you enter the place you will be greeted by a Laughing Buddha statue.
The Décor of the place is pretty nice and simple with some beautiful wall hangings, beautifully crafted wooden bar. The funky posters of different cities of East Asia dot the walls. They have a restaurant in the front lobby as well as a sitting area inside where they have a live bar, made up like a food truck. This is Bar truck, is synonymous to Thailand’s mobile Volkswagen bars, add on the hustle and bustle seen at the SOI. They definitely have tried to give the feel of a street kitchen to this place, but the interiors are too posh to depict as such. This place has a seating capacity for around 50-60 people at a time. The amazing music played in the background will soothes your mind. The staffs are super friendly & always ready at your service. The service of the place is prompt and amazing to satisfy both the tummy and the heart.
▶ Now let us move to the food and drinks. The menu of SOI comprises of dishes that are authentically street-style with influences from their Thai, Chinese and Japanese counterparts. The menu comprises of dishes that are authentically street-style with influences from their Thai, Chinese and Japanese counterparts. On my recent visit last month, I feasted on the following amazing items from the versatile Pan-Asian menu ❤️
🥂 Drinks 🍹
📌 to quench our thirst, we opted for some drinks.
⚜️ Kingfisher Draught Beer 🍺
⚜️ Blenders Pride Reserve Collection
⚜️ 100 Pipers
❤ Food (Starters) 😋
⚜️ Kai hor bai toey-This chicken appetizer simply won our hearts. Thai chicken cooked in coconut milk & lemongrass wrapped in pandanus leaves served in a woven box. The aroma & richness of flavours are commendable. The chicken pieces are soft and tender and juicy too. The sauce steals the show.
⚜️ Tempura Chicken with sukiyaki and teriyaki sauce – This is a must-try. The batter is prepared to perfection making the tempura authentic- crispy, light, and airy. They serve it in the soaking trays and the soft and juicy chicken are covered with classic fried tempura batter. The perfectly constructed flavours are sure to tingle your taste-buds, and you will surely come back craving for more. The two kinds of sauce were complimenting the dishes so well. I would definitely try it again. (Recommended)
❤ Main Course🍗
🔸 Moving on to the Main Course:
⚜️ Leang's Fried rice - This is a different kind of fried rice topped with coriander and other greens and is cooked with Tibetan spices. The rice is well cooked and the whole dish tastes amazing. Unlike the same fried rice, this is something new I tried and was not a failure. I really liked it.
⚜️ Schezwan Fish- The fish was Crispy in the outside and moisty on the inside smothered with Schezwan sauce. This superb fish main course well complemented with fried rice. I just love it.
I am in love with this place as the dishes were really really awesome. Such brilliance in bringing out the flavours from Pan-Asian cuisine. Starting from starter to main course everything tasted perfect. All the items were delicious and too much tasty, and they give very quantity. 😋
💰 Pocket pinch: - Pinch for two is ₹ 1200 - ₹ 1500 with alcohol for a great experience.
▶Overall: - Overall, I am really very impressed with the place. Had a great dining experience and superlative food. After dining at SOI I have gladly added one more name to my list of "Go-to” Pan Asian Food Joints. To sum it up the bold flavors of street side eateries and the vibrancy of the nightlife culminate to create an electric atmosphere, making SOI the perfect hang-out. The vibes are eclectic, the food is awesome, and the cocktails to die for. A weekend evening converted into a fun filled educative evening, thanks to SOI. Looking forward to exploring more items from their menu in next visit 😋 Do pay a visit to this place, you will not regret 💕 👍🏻
The food is really good especially the chicken satay and chilli garlic noodles. Cocktails are delicious and there is a large variety to choose from whether in a group or even for a date. I would recommend going for a pitcher if you're in a group. Ambience is well li and beautiful, but the AC can get uncomfortably cold.
Quite a satisfactory Chinese Restaurant in and around Park Street Area - Decently decorated and charming.
Straight into the things ordered;
1)Cantonese Pan Fried Noodles (Chicken) - Absolutely Amazing.
2)Honey Chicken - Sweet and Pleasant Chicken Side dish. The best part being that it's not very rich or spicy but is rather light and soothing.
3)Chocolate Frost - A simple chocolate mocktail.
Good Service and Good Food.
Highly Recommended!
Soothing music and classy ambience! Prime highlight was the wooden barcounter which emanates a certain grandeur.
On the table we had:
Leangs fried rice
Chilli fish
Geng kua phak
And caramel custard
Every item of their menu tasted fantastic which was made only better by their courteous staff!
I loved the experience and would recommend this for fine dining.
Such a great find, this one! Reasonably priced. Absolutely delicious food. Courteous, pleasant and knowledgeable staff. Certainly returning here soon!
Food:
Ordered chilli seared prawns and a grilled chilli pork dish. Both were good and delectable (specially on days you get runny nose! 😆).
Found the pork a little less on salt.
Ambience:
Impressed! Subtle décor with good music. Very relaxing.
Staff:
Courteous and helpful.
A good experience all in all.
A great place for Asian cuisine. The ambience is very good. I loved the starters and i will keep going back to this place.
I was recommended by my friend to visit this restaurant which is known for Thai and Chinese dishes. And, I was at the right place.
I'll directly rate the experience accordingly:
Food: 4.5/5 ( Kai hor bar toey is a must try. We also had Chicken garlic fried rice and Lemon Chicken. Both were excellent.)
Service: 4/5( the staffs are quite courteous but the food made us wait a little)
Ambience: 5/5( Simply Amazing 😄)
Decor: 4/5
Price: a bit expensive I'd say but you should definitely give a try.
Definitely Recommended!!!
Food quality is very good.Very nice and classy decor. Cocktails were okayish. Mocktails are also good. Appeletini is recommendation . Lat Mai Kai was very delicious. The main course with chicken in almond sauce was very light and tasty . Well done.
No doubt about the ambience of the place. It's just fantastic. The staffs are very polite and friendly. This place serves multi cuisine food. The food quality is just amazing. The only problem is that it's a bit costly which is not that much easily affordable. Overall I really liked the place.
We were three person and selected 2 christmass special buffet menu. The food quality was awsome and the taste of every food was different from each other. The staffs were very cooperative. 2 buffer serves costed around Rs 2500. Nice place. Must visit 👌
Had been there a week ago.
The restaurant has beautiful ambience and the staff are extremely polite. Coming to the food, what we loved exclusively is the Pad Thai. The additional chicken and lamb dishes that we had ordered (images below) stood out to us as well. The quantities, however could be improved for the price.
Overall, looking forward to trying their other Asian dishes. Totally recommended for a fine dining experience!
This place is situated in the same restaurant named ZARANJ. The ambiance is overall good but more couches would have been recommended. Coming to the staff and service it's really excellent so is the food. Though price is on an upper side compared to the quantity but still it's Chinese cuisine is superb. I would say its second best in park Street after Tung Fong. More of non vegetarian dishes than vegetarian so please check the menu before you go.

SOI Zaranj Restaurant
One of the best Chinese restaurant, the ambiance is really beautiful. Coming to the food, its delicious and different flavour taste,i just loved it. However it could be perfect if there was any desert in the menu. I was surprised to see that.
Anyway i had a great experience in this place.
Went to this restaurant few days ago. It is situated near Indian Museum walking distance from Esplanade Metro Station.
Coming to the food items
We ordered
Chicken Fried Wontons.
Classic Fried Rice.
Chilli Garlic Fried Rice

Thank you.
Lovely food. Awesome service. 10/10 experience.
Great cocktails as well. Highly recommended.
You can try the neighbouring Indian restaurant as well.
Suppose you are at New Market, and your stomach craves for some, thai or Chinese cuisines, then SOI - The Asian Street kitchen can be your destination. It's approximately 5mins away from New Market. Now very cheap a place but this place is worth the money. Also the staffs are super cool!!!! ❤.
Pocket Pinch: 1700 for 2 approx.
Now let's talk about the dishes.
1. \\🍤 Tempura Prawn with Sukiyaki sauce🤤\\ - Rs. 495.
This is a dish of fried prawn and the outer coating is of a light golden coloured tempura batter. The prawn was very fresh and the coating was quite crispy. The sauce is light yet flavoursome.
Rating- 3.5/5. [Too much of a crispy coating, didn't really compliment the prawn. But can definitely be tried for the Prawn.]✔
2. \\ 🐔 Crispy Cronjee Chicken🐔\\ - Rs. 435.
Too crispy, Too fried. Not so good. Also because the chicken is over fried, the taste of the chicken is no more detectable enough. The presentation of the dish was really good though.
Rating - 2/5.✖🚫
3. \\ 🍜Cantonese Pan Fried Noodles 🍜\\ - Rs. 285.
These noodles were really out of the world. Super tasty. Also it tasted different from the casual sort of regular noodles.
Ratings - 4.5/5. ❤ ✔☑
4. \\ 🐟 Fish in Taipan Sauce🐟\\ - Rs. 485.
This is a dish of Basa fish, slitted in thin slices and cooked with spices and vegetables. The fish is good. I, personally am not a great lover of fish so I didn't like it much. But otherwise the gravy tasted 👌🏻.
Rating - 4/5. [The fish was very fresh and the gravy was delicious 🤤🤤] ☑✔.
5. \\ 🥦Mixed vegetables in Chilli Garlic sauce🌶\\- Rs. 425.
This dish is a special treat for the vegetarians. This dish contains - Bamboo shoots, mushrooms, Babycorn, Broccoli, etc, tossed with cottage cheese, spices and Chilli Garlic sauce.
Rating- 4/5. ✔☑.
A Special Mention For The Ambience: The place has a great and a welcoming ambience. They have the perfect choice of lights that complements the place, it also has a laughing Buddha statue, in the middle of restaurant. Lovely place.
💲Value for money - 4/5.

This place is a perfect place for Fine Dining.
Very good service and great food. Thai is my favourite. We ordered tempura prawns and Sukiyaki sauce, thai red curry rice and kar hor bai koey.
All three items were very tasty, decor is classy yet chic.
Definitely recommended for Thai.
Prices however are abit high.
A warm and cozy place to have small get togethers! The food is quite delectable and filling, even thoughi wouldn't mind a small increase in portion! The Leangs fried rice, kai hor bai toey and lamb deserve special mention. Overall a very good experience.
A good place to chill... the ambience doesnot dissapoint you.. a nice place to chill out with your friends ...food are little overpriced but the presentation of food is so decent ..drinks are available there ..when i was there happy hours was going on and got some smart offers there. staffs are good. overall a nice place to visit

This is a very nice place with great ambiance. The inside is mostly dark, apt for a romantic fine dining. The quality of food is great. Staffs are also very courteous and the standard of service is really great. Would love to be back again.
Went on a Sunday evening after a horrible experience in another restaurant. This place has a great ambience. Had draught beer and Crispy chilly pork . Food was amazing. Well cooked and proper taste.
Three of us, randomly decided to hop in SOI to celebrate FRIENDSHIP DAY.
We had a nearbuy offer, we ordered a pitcher of Cosmo and crispy babycorn under the offer and separately papaya salad and a chicken dish, being veg won't be able to review the chicken dish.
Cosmopolitan- the latest trend in Kolkata is too dilute the cocktails, however SOI served us fantastic cocktail. We thoroughly enjoyed our drink.
Crispy Babycorn- It was well cooked, can't complain!
Papaya salad- this happens to be my fave, restaurant or home.. They prepared it well. Spicy and tangy blast in every bite.
The staff was courteous and caring. Will visit again soon with bae.
Its realy an awsm place near Indian Museum.. and there foods are tooo yummy and tooo delicious..
Here you can get drinks also..its also available..
I will realy highly recommend to visit once
My favorite place for thai in kolkata. Superb green curry with rice
Always go for papaya salad as well
Have a lit , thai food and papaya salad
Great chinese and fantastic service..
The ambience is very good, polite staff, the food tastes fabulous. The Biryani here is out of the world! Not very crowded, this place is pretty underrated. Highly recommend.
So went to this place to celebrate my friend's birthday ..such a wonderful place located a street beside the indian museum..wonderfully decorated..cosy ambience and taste was at its best..we had ordered a combination of chinese and thai cuisine and all of them tasted equally well.since one of our friend was vegetarian..we had also tasted their veg dishes and they were equally good.i request everyone who lives asian food to try this place once
I loved the place. There was a constant chime, which was created a serene ambience. The place is spacious with comfy upholstery.
Tom Collins was very refreshing. (Gin, lemon and orange peel)
SOI special sangria was good but I'd prefer a sweeter/less concentrated version.
Among starters, I'd recommend Veg Tampura with Sukiyaki sauce. It's a tour de force delicacy.
Corn curd pepper chilli was good but pales in comparison to Tempura.
The staff is cordial and attentive.
They gave cheeselings along with the drinks. They took no service charge. So there's no way I can rate them anything but a perfect 5/5.
I am so happy to finally find a place that serves good thai food. Tried their Tom Kha Het soup and it reminded me of laksa :) Their cocktails are a must try; the concotion of galangal and chilli gives them a refreshing touch which is much needed this summer!
This place have been in my wish-list from a long time. The decor here is amazing, though the price is reasonable. The roasted chilly pork here is amazing, the wanton soup is also good.
Good food in expansive and elegant ambience. Staff is courteous and service efficient. Situated near the Museum. Price point is just right. Overall a delightful experience.
Asian food here is a treat to your taste buds ! Loved the Green Thai curry with Jasmine rice . It’s made beautifully and tastes amazing . Would love to visit again and taste other dishes soon !!
If you are in new market area and you want to have authentic Chinese/Thai cuisine this place should definitely be in your wishlist!
It is located near Indian Museum and New Market area. The ambience is extremely soothing and will lift up your mood.
Coming to food we basically ordered all their authentic signature Thai dishes. Firstly it was Master Shifu's Fish, it was a amazing preparation fresh portions of fish served with fried assorted veggies. Next we ordered Chicken Tempura with sukiyaki sauce, it was an extremely innovative preparation with threads of fried chicken served along with sukiyaki sauce. It was a top notch item. We had also taken chicken sweet corn soup which was a normal preparation and nothing special about it. In main course we ordered Chilli Garlic Noodles which was very basic served with chicken, prawn, egg, lamb, pork. In sides we took Magshah kae which was again their authentic Thai dish. The gravy was perfectly cooked, very mild and tasted excellent. We also took chocolate frost which was a beverage which tasted good.
The service was excellent and the staff knew what they had to suggest and made us feel comfortable througout.
An amazing dining experience and would surely love to visit again!
If you are in the park street area and are a chinese cuisine fan, this is one of the places that should be on your list. The place has quite the ambience to set up your mood. The staffs are actually well aware about your needs and suggests food accordingly. An extra star for that. The foods are quite uncommon and satisfies your taste buds at the same time. The pinch in your pocket is quite less, including alcohol, if I talk about other chinese restaurants in that area. A second visit is due here. Need to go through the menu again!!!
One of the best place for cocktails and mock-tails in the town. The place is well located in the heart of city. Exotic dishes are available here.
We dropped a visit there one Saturday lazy afternoon for a lunch. The place is right next to Indian Museum. There are two sections, one is for the Chinese-Thai section and on the right side there is Indian delicacies. We, a motley group of six people went to the Asian section to savour the delicacies from the land of white elephant.
The interior was adorned with different pictures from South-East Asian nations in sync with the food it serves. There is a laughing Buddha at the centre of the the restaurant creating a positive vibe that will help you to soak into the ambience before you start digging into the food.
Now coming to the dine and wine part. We ordered a cocktail named Hairy Buffalo which was refreshing as well as a great stimulant to whet our appetite. It was a mix of rum, vodka, bouborn whiskey etc added with fruits. As we are not a regular cocktail fan, we savoured it as a great experiment. The most amazing thing was that they were giving one complimentary mocktail/cocktail for every main/sidedish ordered to celebrate the World Women Day. We also ordered Cosmopolitan and Maitai for cocktail and Pina Colada and Watermelon Basil Colin for mock tail. All the drinks were good enough.
For starter we orderd Tempura Chicken and pandanus-leaf wrapped chicken which has a name that can give u tough times to pronounce it.... Kai Hor Bai Toey. The sukiyaki sauce accompanying tempura chicken was superb and for all its so difficult to pronounce name- wrapped chicken was out of the world and very juicy and soft smoky flavour emanating from it.
But the piece d resistance was the main course suggested by the staff as we were somewhat confused what to order among those tough looking names. The fried rice named Leangs did not let us down and it really went well with the curry dish named Magsah Kai. Magsah Kai was basically diced chicken cooked in a light gravy. It was not tangy but a slight spicy that u will enjoy. Thai food was at its best as we were gorging on those foods after the mocktail/cocktail session. The staffs were courteous but one thing is that we had to time and again call them to catch there attention though it was not crowded at all. A little bit more attention was needed from the staff as we felt.
Overall we enjoyed a great lunch. Thumbs up to the place.
I had been here just a few days ago.
It is just beside Indian Museum and a part of Zaranj.
The ambience was so soothing and the decor of the place looked so posh.
We had Tempura Prawn in Sukiyaki Sauce, Master Shifu's Fish, Magshah Kae and Laengs Fried Rice ♥️
Each item was delicious.
Loved the Magshah Kae the most which was Lamb Chops with mushroom in their special Magshah sauce and was complementing the fried rice which was suggested by the waiters.
The Tempura Prawn was so tender and the sauce went perfectly with it.
Master Shifu's Fish was a perfect blend of a sweet and spicy sauce and well prepared as well.
The waiters were very helpful and I was quite impressed with the swift service ♥️
Definitely a very recommended place ♥️
Will visit again.
Happy Fooding ✌️
Worth visiting.....the ambience was quiet and soothing....and the food was nice ....we ordered vegetable tempura and the signature dish- magshah phak with leang fried rice ...it tasted really good...but wasn't as spicy as expected ....will surely visit again
I've been here for 3/4times, the environment is very good & pleasant. One can enjoy food along with good music. Quality & the taste of food both are perfect. Will strongly recommended this place with in such congested area like esplanade. Once you get inside it, the environment will pleased you.
The place is located in the midst of bustling New Market. It is one fine dinning restaurant with comfortable seating arrangement and sophisticated interiors. The ambience is very basic. Service is top notch!
We had:
☑ Tempura Chicken
☑ Hakka Noodles
☑ Magshah Kai
The food was finer lickin' good. Tempura Chicken is a must try!!! Thai food lovers should definitely hit up to experience the authentic Thai cuisine.
The staffs were very polite. The ambience was just perfect. The food was also delectable but the portion was too less compared to its price. The alcohol section was great. The cocktails were innovative too.
This place is located right next to the Indian Museum. Take the same door as Zaranj and then continue straight inside. Had visited this place on new year's Eve and as such we we're initially told that the standard menu is off limits for that particular day but since we had booked a table in advance we would be allowed the standard menu on offer. To kick things off we had ordered a Rob Roy and an Old Fashioned cocktail. Mixing was on point. The best part was that the Mixologist/Bartender came around and enquired from every guest whether the drinks were prepared to their satisfaction or not. Full points for that.
Our server was the highlight of the evening. I would say the best server we have come across till date. Thorough knowledge of the menu including drinks. Excellent.
The interior is one giant ball room kind of a place. Very appreciable what they've done with the movables, especially the bar portion.
Coming to the food. We had ordered Fried Pork Wontons along with Tempura Prawns. Both were very well prepared. With the Tempura Prawns winning the competition for starters. For the mains since we were already very full we decided to order plain steamed rice with Lamb in Thai red curry. Perfectly seasoned with the most tenderest of lambs ever. With all that food inside our stomach we decided to call it a night.
The restaurant is overall a very tightly knit unit under the watchful eyes of the ever present manager. Very well run.
I visited this place on Sunday afternoon with my friends. When we first entered inside, we were asked Indian or Chinese? Since we wanted Chinese, we were asked to go straight. I think, they have separate areas for the two cuisines and so separate menu books.
Location: If you are coming from the Park Street side, just cross the Indian Museum. The street beside it, is the Sudder Street. You can easily point out the restaurant as soon as you step on the Sudder street.
And if you are coming from the Esplanade/New Market side, then the street before you come across Indian Museum is the Sudder street. It can be very easily located. And also you have always Google Maps if you face a difficulty!
Ambience: The place is beautiful and also calm which I like. The restaurant has a classy look inside.
Food: We ordered -
1) Appetizers - Kai Hor Bai Toey and Tempura Chicken With Sukiyaki Sauce. Both taste awesome. Kai Hor Bai Toey was wrapped in banana leaf and in total 6 pieces of wrappings were there in the dish (each wrapping - 2 pieces of chicken). Tempura Chicken also had 6 pieces. Both are recommended.
2) Thai Cuisine - Kaeng Kai (Green Curry). They recommended Red curry when we asked which one tastes better but we had to take green because one of my friends cannot eat spicy food. It comes with rice. So you don't have to separately order rice for this dish. With rice, the curry tastes amazing. The vegetables and leaves in the dish were very fresh and you could easily get the flavour which is great. It is highly recommended.
3) Chinese Cuisine - Chicken in Black bean sauce with Cashew nuts and Veg Hakka noodles. We took veg noodles just to get the chicken flavour in the other dish better. The noodles were good. I didn't like the chicken dish as much as the above ones but it was good. (that is why I am not giving it 5, since 4.5 is not there, so gave it a 4 rating.)
4) Mocktail - I forgot the exact name but it was of Water melon. And it was so refreshing. I have tasted water melon mocktails in other places where I didnot like much but here, it was wonderful.
Service: They are courteous. Behaviour is very good. And also they are helpful. We were happy with their service.
I would like to visit here again. Thank you. :)
Not only was the food delicious, but the staff was very hospitable and welcoming! I had to catch a flight immediately after lunch and required quick service. I was catered to by the chef at the best of his abilities. The ambience is lovely and I will definitely go back to SOI, Kolkata, to fully enjoy the experience they offer. Their draught beer was full of flavour and very smooth!
Another top notch place for Pan-Asian/Chinese food lovers in town. The ambience is totally in-sync with the kind of food served. Chicken in Sukiyaki and Teriyaki sauce is the must try dish from the restaurant. The decor is equally fascinating and well-maintained. Overall, an amazing place to enjoy with family and friends.
Soi
Someone wise once said that first choice is always the best choice but it turned out to be quite wrong for us....one fine day we set out to try the renowned buffet of mainland china however, as fate would have it, due to unavoidable circumstances we ended up in soi!! And voila ! We made the best decision of our lives!
Located very near to the indian museun, the restaurant is divided into two sections - chinese and indian.
Due to our unending love for chinese cuisine we indisputably chose the chinese section! The ambience was really amazing and the service was one of the best we have ever seen.
We ordered
Tempura chicken with sukiyaki sauce -- Boneless pieces of chicken coated in tempura batter and deep fried , served with sukiyaki sauce . The chicken was extremely juicy and tender from inside . Ultra crispy from outside.
Highly recommended.
Honey chicken- Boneless slabs of fried chicken tossed in honey and light soya sauce. The gravy is ultra sweet and the chicken was very tender. For a spicy food lover like me, this dish might not go upto the mark.
Roasted chilli pork- Now this was our monopoly dish. We order this dish at almost every restuarant we visit. But this time we were quite disappointed. The dish was lacking something. Some sort of flavour is missing.
Pork chilli garlic fried rice- Steamed rice pan fried with lots of garlic and chillies. The fried rice contains sumptuous amount of pork. It was not too spicy, so ideal for my sister.
This restuarant definitely worth a second time visit. Would like to try their Thai cuisine next time.
Love this place... ordered chicken tomyum, Master shifu's fish, magshah kai, prawn in oyster sauce and classic fried rice.. food taste delicious and decor is amazing.. looking forward to visit again.
I am a regular at this place..This place serves excellent Thai food and cocktails..the Tom yum soup, pad thai noodles anything you order is lovely and staff are very courteous.. especially Robin..he takes delight in serving his guests...
This place is located nearby Esplanade. Ambience is soothing. We ordered tempura prawns with sukiyaki sauce, kor hoi bai toey, pork ribs, pad thai noodles and hairy buffalo cocktail. All the dishes were truly delicious especially sukiyaki prawns and kor hoi bai toey. But the cocktail stole the show. It was amazing. The taste, blend of all the alcohols were superb. I loved the behaviour of the waiters. They were warm and cordial. Would love to visit again. Keep up the good job.
:)
The restaurant is located near Indian Museum. Our yesterday's visit was worth remembering. The ambience is cozy. The decor is amazing. Coming to the food, the pork wontons were perfect. For main course we ordered pad kra pao gai(poultry) and vegetables cantonese pan friend noodles. They were tasty. However the minced chicken preparation had a strange flavour of red meat which was a thumbs down. Also there was a spicy guava and a spicy lemongrass & ginger margarita in our order which were too hot to handle! Overall had a lovely time with my dearest friend.
Good ambience. Good service. Need to be a little flexible in terms of allowing residual food to be packed. In food items the fries were not that good.
Very near to Indian Museum, The restaurant is beautifully decorated and Asian theme based. Staffs were extremely courteous and helpful. One can get very limited food menu options here but it’s worth give it a try. We have ordered “Gaeng Kua Kai” which was a sizzling chicken starter in Thai preparation. Chicken was tossed in Sauce with bell paper, onion and sizzled . Thai Red Curry , “Kaeng Kai” was not up to the mark. It was a disappointment as Thai dish. It usually serves with Thai sticky rice but instead got served with steamed basmati rice. There was less veggies in it and also Taste could be little better. overall nice experience but there still room for improvement.
Located right next to Indian Museum and at the beginning of Sudder Street.First of all, I am in love with this place as the dishes were really really awesome. Such brilliance in bringing out the flavours. Definitely worth a visit. The Decor is pretty nice and simple with some beautiful wall hangings, beautifully crafted wooden bar. You will be greeted by a Laughing Buddha statue while you enter. Very spacious with comfortable sitting arrangements. The staffs are courteous and helped us a lot with the menu.
Coming to the food We Ordered:
STARTERS-
1. KAI HOR BAI TOEY
2. MASTER SHIFU'S FISH
3. SATAY KAI
MAIN COURSE:
4. LEANGS FRIED RICE
5. CHILLI GARLIC FRIED RICE
6. MAGSHAH KAE (we ordered Sliced lamb for the preparation)
7. HOT GARLIC CHICKEN
The taste was one of a kind.
The food was extremely fresh and well cooked. Worth the price.
Well, I had an amazing experience & will highly recommend this place.
Do visit this place once.
Visited there for the chirstmas special buffet lunch. The spread was nice. Some of the items mentioned were unavailable. Staff is well behaved. Would suggest a little
More variation in the menu
This is undoubtedly one of the best Chinese /Thai food joints in Kolkata.. The place to be.. If you're craving for some lip smacking Chinese /Thai delicacies.. Prompt service and almost a Tarkovskian like silent atmosphere.. One must definitely visit this "zone" and experience tranquility in its purest form..

The place is very beautifully decorated, with a beautiful bar and wonderful hospitality, but leaving all aside, what mesmerized us was the food. Such brilliance in bringing out the flavours, it's making my mouth water even at the thought of the food! However, the staff could have been a little more interactive.
2 of my friends and I went for lunch and we had,
1. Satay Kai: I had never tried the combination of peanuts & grilled chicken before, but the flavour that was brought out, words are too little to explain the taste.
2. Kaeng Kae: It is the Thai green lamb curry, which comes with warm steamed rice and such an exotic taste!
3. Cantonese Pan fried Noodles: They provide sufficient amount of veggies and chicken in the perfectly crunchy yet soft noodles. It's awesome!
All over, every dish had a unique taste which surprised my taste buds in every bite! I really enjoyed my food experience here.
What an amazing place. Absolutely Fantastic. The food, the drinks , the atmosphere, the staff everything was on point . Such a splendid decor. Visited with a friend . In cocktails we had the espresso martini and daquiri . Both were amazing. In food we went for a Thai prawn sizzler, tempura chicken and master shifu's fish. I loved it in soi and would love to come back again.
This place is definitely worth a try. I had the Tom Yam soup (seafood) , which was just aptly spicy,
The chicken wantons were absolutely "snap, crack and pop"
The prawn tempura with sukiyaki sauce was sublime.
I tried the Pad Thai for the first time, and I'm happy for it
But the best choice was the Kaeng Kai chicken in red curry with steamed herb rice. It was a hearty bowl of joy.
All in all, I plan to come back here to try the rest of the menu
SOI [Zomato Gold Visit]
Located in the same property where Zaranj is, a separate division for Chinese, Thai and Asian cuisine. Decor is casual and comfortable with some lovely wall hangings, beautifully crafted wooden bar and they have this one secluded table for like a private function where the lights and table is appropriate for a good picture :P
After a long time, my friends and I decided to try a restaurant with cuisine other than North Indian. so, we narrowed it down to SOI for its Indo-Chinese cuisine as the ratings and gold membership both were in our favour.
We ordered the following:-
•Tom Kha Het Soup : A mildly spiced soup, with coconut milk, mushrooms and galangal. My friends Rushabh Shah and Yash Sheth really enjoyed it. A really good suggestion specially in winter season.
•Vegetable Tempura with Sukiyaki Sauce : stuffed vegetable coated in tempura batter and deeply fried, was crispy & crunchy. Tasted nice along with the sauce which I thought was XO sauce, I don't know why the name mentioned is sukiyaki sauce.
•Leangs Fried Rice : Bland in taste but went really well with Magshah Phak . Credit to the staff who waited our table for this suggestion, as it was spot on.
If you are ordering noodles which are spicy and can be eaten without Manchurian gravy or vegetable puree then go ahead with this rice and Magshah Phak. But, if you are ordering chopsuey or Hakka noodles, I don't think this rice will go well with it.
•Magshah Phak : The gravy and it's fragrance was alluring and it made its way to our heart. Really good taste with broccoli (my fav) and other vegetables and mushrooms.
•Manchow Soup. Not the best I have had and not at all spicy. I think it lacked soya sauce and that tinge of chilli which makes Manchow hot and spicy.
•Schezwan Noodles : Noodles were boiled and mixed with schezwan sauce correctly but wasn't that spicy or garlicky. I think they hold back when it come to adding spices. Otherwise noodles tasted good with finely chopped veggies, topped with spring onions.

This is my go to place whenever I crave Asian cuisine. I love love LOVE this place to bits. Love their friendly behaviour. We habe celebrated so many birthdays, Christmases here and everytime they were way too much helpful and polite. Love their Kai Hor Bai Toey, it's my FAVOURITE. Try it, you'll love it.
Always a delight to visit SOI!! Been there thrice this year and it has never dissapointed.
Food is excellent... overall service is very good..
5th December was my birthday. It was my first visit to that place. I had booked seats via zomato. The best thing I received was the courteous and humble behaviour. They greeted us as if they were waiting only for our arrival.
The food was up to the mark.
We had a wonderful time there and their endeavour to make us comfortable made my day.
Love to visit again :)
Greaaaaat Ambiance.
This place will offer you Asian and Indian Cusines, from SOI and Zaranj Respectively. We opted for SOI’s menu, and the food was delightful.I asked for a dish that would go with Leangs Fried Rice and the server recommended Magshah Kai and it was amazing, this place also plays soothing music, which combined with the ambiance and great food, makes this place a must visit. Now coming to the dishes we ordered:
Magshah Kai.(5/5)
Chilly Fish.(4.5/5)
Leangs Fried Rice(5/5)
Classic Fried Rice.(4.5/5)
However, the quantity of fried rice for the price was quite less, two dishes were not enough for three people.
Recommend: Yes.
This place runs two different restaurants in two different sections - Asian & North Eastern cuisines. Have tried the Asian one couple of times and it has always turned out to be a delight. Chicken Hakka noodles and chilli chicken are a must try here!
One of the best in Esplanade Area. It is well decorated and behavior of the waiters are too good. Though it is expensive but worth spending each penny. You can get offers in Nearbuy for this restaurant.
Juggling thru the streets of Kolkata with shopping bags and we crossed this place. With recent failures of restaurants we were a bit worried abt this one. Wait, my kid is troubling me a lot and oh my god is that the manager handing my child crayons and a paper to draw on? Attention to details, and they have received a 5 from me on that itself. Why, cos u r assured that the food will also be given attention to while being prepared. And honestly speaking, they did. That’s the reason why this place is bookmarked for my next visit to Kolkata.
Blissfull Thai experience it was. Visited on a Saturday eve and had a wonderful experience. Its located in the same building of Zarang, behind Indian Museum. It s having a beautiful decor and warm lighting and what mesmerized me most was the sound of those heavy wind-chimes.
Lets come to the food now. It serves one of the best Thai foods in kolkata.
We had ordered Kai Hor Bai Toey which was a chicken preparation wrapped in banana leaves (nt sure). Chicken pieces were tender and it was served with sweet chilli sauce.
In the main course I had pork Kaeng Kae or Moo (Phed- the red thai curry) which was a gravy made of coconut, kafir lime leaves, mushrooms lemon grass. It had the authentic taste and we loved it.
Manager Mr Robin was very courteous and helpful.Best thing to note is they serve the food very quick, you dnt need to wait a long at all☺️
Happy visit in SOI❤️
Wanted to try this place since a long time as we are a big fan of Pan Asian food. Also heard really good reviews about SOI so one day me & Dr.Suvayan Saha came here for lunch.
We tried some of their cocktails and suggested food. The experience was great.
▫️Mai tai-A rum based cocktail with flavours of orange liquor, almond, pineapple juice. An amazing concoction it was.
▫️Daiquiri-This classic cocktail is always a favourite & it was very well made here.
▫️Kai hor bai toey-This dish simply won our hearts.Thai chicken cooked in coconut milk & lemingrass wrapped in banana leaves. The aroma & richness of flavours are commendable.
▫️Satay kai-Indonesian chicken satays were succulent and topped with crunchy peanuts. The peanut sauce with it was tasty too.
▫️Kaeng kai or moo-We tried Pork Thai red curry served with steamed rice. The curry was lipsmacking good and the pork pieces were tender.
Overall, had an amazing experience here & will highly recommend this place.
Ambience is simple, chic & well maintained.
Pocket pinch-1500/- for two.
Blissful experience i had here. Spend a quality time with quality people along with extreme good quality of food. There each dish that i have ordered have a good sometime unique taste.

The decor keeps up With the Asian restaurant that it claims to be. The preparations are good, we tried a few dishes (been there twice) and most of them were great. The Thai curry is outstanding. Keep it up. I am a Zomato gold user and this is a great find.
Definitely worth a visit. An annexe of the legendary Zaaranj. I particularly liked the Thai food. Extremely good quality of meat and seafood, as you will expect from fine dining.

A big shout out to the people working here. I had gone with my friends on a weekday for lunch. After reaching the restaurant one of my friend was not feeling well, we didn't know where to get meds for her. The manager took the responsibility to arrange meds for her. Thank you for being courteous.
The place is really classy, it's spacious and I liked the seating arrangement. One can get good pictures from every angle of this restaurant. They do have clean washrooms for their guests.
Obviously the food was tasty and presented well. Surely going to visit this place again.
Great experience. Simple yet decent ambience. Sharing the space with zaraanj the north indian serving counterpart. Now coming to the food, it was absolutely awesome. Each and every item tasted so authentic. We had both Thai and Chinese cuisine. All the dishes were great and at the same time tasted so unique. Lastly special mention to Robin and Nadeem whose service, politeness and dish recommendations were something that made our entire experience at SOI worth it. Would recommend this place to everyone who loves Chinese and Thai cuisine. Would love to visit again...
It was a very good experience to start the description in a sentence.
I will rate it 4/5 just because I think the portions could have been better, considering the price. But, when it comes to taste they were bang on 5/5.
Ambience - 5/5
Staff Behaviour - 5/5 (very courteous, best suggestions provided)
Must try ones...
Appetizers :-
Master Shifu's Fish
Stir fried Lemongrass Chicken (You will love the lemongrass feel)
Roasted Chilli Pork
Satisfaction guaranteed...!!
Very courteous staff and very calm and peaceful ambience with soft playing music. Now coming to the food, every single dish served to us, was yummy. Just didn't like the papaya salad much since it was a little spicy. Otherwise, loved all the other items; starting with the starters till the deserts, all were just yumm.....
Good food gives you good vibes, for sure. But a great dine-out should have something more, like a good ambience, charming environment with cheerful soft music, plenty of options in the menu, courteous staffs ready to help, fast service, proper presentation of the meal and perfect taste to satisfy your gustatory cells.
This place, located just near the Indian Museum, Kolkata fulfills every criteria of a skeptical foody like me. From entering the restaurant to getting out of it, my experience was wonderful. The staffs were educated, polite and proficient at their job. Since it was our first rendezvous at a south asian food joint, we were very enthusiastic and excited about the menu, not to mention almost clueless. But the waiter was such a gentleman, that he took all the trouble to decide the courses. We took "Tempura prawn" (akin to prawn Kobiraji) and "Magsha kai"(spicy cooked chicken wrapped in banana leaves, like Paturi) as starters. Then we went for some mocktails and cocktails until the main course arrived. I strongly recommend the Martini and the "Blue heaven". Indeed, it was heavenly. Then we tucked in the extravagant green rice, the "Leangs fried rice", "Kai hor bai" (Spicy chicken curry) and the "Kaeng kai" (lemongrass chicken). The restaurant officials were generous enough to offer a complimentary serving of steamed rice as well! We were so full that there was hardly any room for deserts..! And all these, with a pocket pinch of Rs. 4009/- only for 4 hungry adults!
I cannot thank enough the decent waiter who made this convivial evening so memorable. I'd definitely give 6 star ratings if it was possible... Thanks you SOI-The Asian Street Kitchen, for serving delectable cuisine with royalty!
I have been there few days ago and till now I have visited here four times. And all of my visit to this place was excellent. It is located near the Indian Museum.
The ambience is excellent with soft music, pretty decorated and spacious. The seating arrangements includes both chair and sofa seats, both are pretty comfortable. The place has been divided into a food area and a bar. There is good spacing between tables so that it don't look crowded.
Aside Brewed Beer and Draught Beer, all new kind of pulped flavoured draught beers are also available here. We have tried Orange flavoured Beer, which was too good. Also the Kingfisher Draught Beer is awesome.
The quality of food was also very good and tasty, specially the starters.
The service is excellent, staffs were warm, friendly and courteous enough. A huge thumbs up for the staffs.
I will surely visit here again, also recommend this place to everyone.
This place is an extended part of Zaranj, serving authentic Thai Cuisine. The quality of both food and service is top-notch. The decor is classy. We had Master Shifu's Fish, Magshah Phak, Kai Hor Bai Toey, Thai Green Chicken Curry, Thai Red Chicken Curry and Sangria. Each and every dish were bursting with flavours. If you want to have a good time with good food-SOI can be the ideal place.
This place is in a prime location and easily accessible by uber or walking down the busy street. I went on a weekday and the servers outnumbered the guests. Nevertheless they came with a smile on their face and when i asked for recommendations it was spoton. I ordered Koong Magshah and Leangs fried rice both complimented each other were delicious. The portion size is small, but the taste satisfies the appetite.
Nicely decorated place.. great ambiance.
We ordered one chiken wonton soup and one chiken sour soup . Then chiken Satay and master shifus fish in starter both are delicious..
In main course we take a coriander chiken and one chiken staple in scezuan souce.classic fried rice also very tasty..
Ice cream tastes above average.
Costly place but food is awsome.. very much recommend
Beautiful ambience, great food... Thai dishes served are awesome, though a bit pricey... Location is also nice just, beside the Indian Museum
