'Malgudi Days' theme based restaurant mainly for South Indian dishes. Must try their special dish 'Malgudi Blast' dosa. Other items are also nice.
Pai’s Malgudi serves south Indian food with pocket friendly prices. The food is amazing with all the varityitems one can think of. The chutneys have authentic taste and leave you craving for more. This casual dining place is best known for its prompt service and courteous staff. The choices of food are unlimited and among the most ordered items are Onion Rva Dosa, Kerala Parotta, Upma, Malgudi Blast Dosa, other varieties of Dosa. The must ask for Filter coffee cup awaits your sip. It does not serve alcohol.
Have been ordering various dishes from here. Love their red chatni, plain dosai Home styled and most preparations. Have an issue with their special Upma. It is a tad too sweet. If you omit the sugar it will be better.
I visited this place two weeks back and really loved this place. The food was awesome specially
MALGUDI BLAST DOSA..... Service was pretty good......Wanna visit again😋.........
Warm nice place to be. Had awesome badam lassi n keshari lassi..Ordered twice..Their dosas should be tried..Other thali options are also mouthful. Polite n courteous staff. Will visit again. Neat and clean place for vegetarians
Nice food...everything was wolfed down in minutes...
why don't you people provide spoons ??
Posting a review after a long time.
Visited this place last week. Ordered masala dosa and rawa onion masala dosa. Both were good, though they had stuffed the onion a bit too much in the rawa dosa. Value for money. They managed to accommodate a lot of seats in that one room without it feeling crowded.
Food : 4.5/5
Ambience : 4.5/5
Service 5/5
Ordered cheese and onion masala dosa from them. One of the best dosas I have ever had. Dosa was crisp and stuffed with grated cheese and onion. Aloo stuffing or masala is served separately. Their sambar, coconut chutney and onion tomato chutney was different from other places and tasted great. Packaging was good too. Wish to try many more varieties in future.
Pai's Malgudi never fails to delight me. Ordered Masala dosa with special coconut chutney. Was delicious as hell with greatly satisfying quantity.
The food is good but a lot of extra chutney was given and a lot of sambar you guys need quantity control otherwise it was great...
I ordered Dosa and Idli. The Dosa and Idli were good but the white chutney and the onion and tomato chutney was a bit stale and not too fresh.I ordered Bisibilli rice also which was okay .
I ordered their Aloo Paratha also. It was a bit dry, not up to the mark.

M definitely visiting d place again... Let me drop a note of appreciation for d staff there specially Kusum who attended us. Well done!
A small south Indian restaurant where only 4 tables I think is there but the food taste is just awesome. The restaurant atmosphere is also good. Overall paisa ka poora vasool.
pls send the invoice also along with the food

A place that will will take you to childhood days. Expect walls to be decorated with pictures and paintings of “Malgudi days”. Great food, great place.

What else you could expect from a restaurant.. I have never seen so much of South Indian menu in a single card. Looking forward to explore more.
This place is just wow, so homely, well maintained, such great menu and so decent prices. Opens up early in the morning with such calmness, perfect place for breakfast.
Tried 'Adai' for the first time here and was in love with it from the first bite, loosely speaking it's like a uttapam made out of daal. Also the dhania dosa I tried was amazing and huge. Found the rasam to be okish, could be more tangier.
Definitely my breakfast place whenever am around Ballygange area.
P.S: They have loads of interesting off the menu items, do check it out
I'm not really South Indian food fan, and rarely spend money on this cuisine. Went to this food joint and spent money on Dosa after like ages I guess, and to my surprise, I absolutely loved it! we had ordered Malgudi Blast Dosa and Rava Kesari. The filling of that dosa was a bit unusual than the usual ones. Moreover this place is easy on pocket.
It's an interesting place for those who watched malgudi days .Trust me it's a very weird nostalgic feeling . At least I felt that. They have 2- 3 types of wall painting from malgudi days. So you can relate those scenes if you watched that. Almost 6 months ago I bookmarked this place and Today I've got a chance to visit here. we ordered hot chai, hot coffee , today's special onion rings , Kerala paratha with korma , and we ordered sapad. Kerala paratha was tastes like lachha paratha. The korma tastes good. The quantity of sapad was perfect. overall I liked this place and this is a pocket friendly place too. :)
Good food, masala given separate good
Been here on a sat evening.. wasn't aware if it had sitting arrangements so called up the manager and he ws nice chap who said it has all restaurant facility.
Authentic south Indian food all on the list..
We ordered dhaniya dosa.. masala idli which was manager's recommendation.
Masala idli was yummy with capsicum..tomato& white coconut powder.
Dhaniya dosa also had very sufficient filling & yummy too.
They serve North Indian dishes too like chola natural etc..but if you like south Indian food then should be must on your list!
I found sambhar a little less tasty as compared to other south Indian places around.. otherwise nice experience..
I could see lot of tourist had come there seeing trip advisor's rating so over all nice experience..
It is a Cosy Place to have lunch specially.
Parking is available but you have to wait as the lane is narrow. 6/10
Ambiance 6/10.
Wall Painting are 3D see pictures.
Washroom needs Update as Tap in the wash basin is old.
Food 7/ 10
I ordered Thali Unlimited and Masala Dosa.
Be it Sambhar or any other thing everything was average nothing was bad or excellent.
Service
10/10
Owner personally came to check if I need anything as he noticed my Sambhar was over.
I was looking for a dustbin for my used tissue as Owner promptly offered me Dustbin.
Overall would like to Visit Again

Had coffee, guntur idlis, dosa, masala vada... The feel of an authentic filter coffee and the rolly polly Guntur idlis were very nice. Crisp vadas the size not over done was heaven on the earth to be had with a fantastic filter coffee...the unassuming owner was very pleasing and ensured i would visit again this place.
This restaurant is located near Ballygunge phari opposite Law College.
I'm not quite a South Indian food fan,but I'm a dosa lover myself.
Then,I ordered in the most hyped dish in their menu,
'masala blast dosa',which i found to be just amazing.
It came along with two types of chutney and sambar as well.
The place seems pocket friendly and nice.
Well to me south Indian food was only restricted to plain or masala dosa or idli but when i gave a quick glance at the menu it was more than what i had expected. Coming to the decorations, the walls are painted with the image of R.K.Narayan's "malgudi days",absolute nostalgic touch to the place. Location is also prominent. One can easily locate it in the adjacent lane near Hazra law college. We ordered their popular dish i.e malgudi blast dosa. The dosa is packed with some delicious stuffs inside which makes it a heavy meal for one. One should definitely try it. The owner is very courteous and asking us weather we liked our dish or not .Much appreciated. I will definitely visit this place from now on to try out their dishes on the menu card .
We found this place through zomato... and were a bit apprehensive when we first walked in... All that changed the moment we tasted their offerings. Food was extremely good, not too spicy and portions was generous. As someone from the South, it was literally like having a home cooked meal. The curd rice and bisibele bath aka sambar rice are awesome. Masala dosa and poori masala was delicious. Suji upma could be improved on. The decor is minimal, the staff are warm and friendly. Service is a little slow ... But worth the wait. Highly recommended for authentic South Indian vegetarian food
Going by the name Malgudi we expected some authentic south Indian food and beverages. I tried Malgudi special uttapam and my friends had saapad. Its decent given the fact that not many restaurants in kolkata serve south Indian food.
Was really disappointed with filter coffee. It wasn't strong at all.
Best thing about the place is the paintings on the wall which remind you of Malgudi days childhood stories.
Looking forward to try some new dishes next time.
Appam with stew and Puttu with kadala were the weekend specials... They were really appetizing... The ambience and service is fast and good than most restaurants...
I was extremely disappointed with this place when I went to grab a quick coffee with my friend.
I asked specifically if they would serve filter coffee, they replied in an affirmative and what we were served was a watery mess most probably with instant coffee.
We then ordered for a kesari, one of my most favourite things, it was EXTREMELY sweet and had a synthetic saffron flavour.
The staff were inexperienced and incompetent.
The rating is for the ambience and the decor mostly, which is elegant and pretty. But I will not be going back for the food.
Fond of Malgudi days by RK Narayan?? Then its a must visit place. Really touchy ambience with full of malgudi days memories. Little different south indian dishes served by them than others. Dosa and other dishes are really good but if you want to try out different saviour try out their chilli idli its really awesome and mouth watering
Excellent authentic south indian food including the filter coffee fluffy idlis/dosa and bang on taste sambar. As a Chennai boy (more middle aged man I guess) who was traveling on work in Calcutta, the quality of food at Pais malgudi was a really pleasant surprise and made my day. Highly recommended.
Overall descent food, commenting only on the food as I got it delivered. Nothing great but descent cannot complain. Kerala paratha was not up to the mark. Kesari was good though. Will have to try other items before I recommend the joint
Located in hazra Road.. This place serves one of the best dosas in Kolkata.. Especially they cheese garlic dosa and malgudi blast dosa.. 5 out of 5.
Thank you and Zomato for delivering food on a heavily rainy day when most other joints stopped taking orders by evening. Full marks for packaging of the food shows a lot of care for customers ordering food from home. Taste of masala cheese dosas and idly were awesome along with the coconut chutney. Sambar was good too but can do much better. Will definitely get back to you for some more delightful food experience.
A place that will take you to your childhood days. Expect the walls to be decorated with pictures and paintings of our childhood favourite " Malgudi Days". The way it's done, it is bound to have a nostalgic effect on you. The managers are very polite, the waiters very attentive. The owner personally came to us to talk and take feedback! Noted and appreciated!
Coming to the food, I was elated to see saapad on the menu. Well, saapad is a South Indian meal consisting of unlimited rice, ghee malgapodi, sambhar, rassam, karaikoram, avial, poriyal..in understandable words, it basically comprises lentil based dishes, some South Indian style vegetables, raita, chaas, a sweet dish, etc.
Since I've been to pondicherry and Chennai a lot of times and had saapads at so many places, I know the meal inside out. And the best way to judge a saapad is to smell the fingers even after hours, if that aroma of freshly grounded spices (the south indians actually grind their masalas everyday) persists, the saapad is a hit.
However it would be too harsh on them to expect the same experience in Kolkata. Kudos to the kitchen team for trying their best to pull off the best possible flavours they could.
A place which reminds you of the childhood reminisce of the malgudi town
Great food great place
Try the malgudi special dosa 👍modern day dosa pizza

To a connoisseur of South Indian food - it's a big recommend... the flavours are authentic , the ambience , very Indian ... and most importantly the taste sumptuous for a simple indulgent South Indian evening snack or dine!!
Gem of place in Kolkata for South Indian food! If you are on the look out for some authentic Udupi food, this is the stop.
Dosas and coffee are great in taste. Idlis can be better though.
It's small place tucked in a residential area with limited seating. But the warmth of staff and good food , do make your day!
Mesmerizing and pocket friendly South Indian food! The art too is worth mentioning here. Lovely experience overall. Many people recommended and it was at par my expectations.
Wanting to have south Indian food, one roams in Ballygunge phari and then finds this place. And voila! You find Pai's Malgudi. But the actual twist comes once you enter it. Filled with sketches from Malgudi Days, one is sure to relive his/her childhood! And its pretty affordable too! With the food being so great its sure a great value for your money.
Dhaniya dhosa was just amazing.......
Place is pretty good.
Food at very cheap prices with great taste....
Loved it...
Will visit again.....
It's nostalgic. I never expect a taste as familiar as my mom's dish, out in a restaurant. This one changed my perception. Fantastic. Can revisit this place for as many times as possible.
This is my quaint haven of peace.
A visit to Pai's Malgudi on an overstressed day is the necessary antidote to appease your nerves.
Soothen your palate with the welcoming chaanch. The innocence of its ingredients will make you ask for more.
You may try the Dhania Dosa next. The recipe for the chutney that makes it so special is a secret well guarded to the kitchen. The taste of the dosa is devotedly traditional with a modern twist of the chilli-dhania paste.
Satisfy the explorer in you with the thali now. Starting from the sumptuous puri across all the way to the moong dal ki halwa, this is an experience that will leave its mark.
The signature experience is not complete without a glass of filter coffee.
A special mention for the kind and generous staff here.
Vanakkam!
Excellent food . Excellent ambience. Excellent service . Must try out . Try out the malguri blast dosa . And must try out the lassi . Worth trying out . The vadas wer soo crispy .. excellent
Yesterday I visited this place,nd it was a great experience,First the Decor and ambience is good,nd then comes the food which was great,we ordered Medu wada,Malgudi blast dosa,Mushroom cheese masala dosa nd kesari lassi, the prices are reasonable nd food is yummy, would definitely recommend it to others.
A simple quaint restaurant with delightful South Indian food..had its signature fried idly blast and Malgudi blast dosa accompanied with sumptuous sambar and chutney (coconut+tomato garlic)..to go with butter milk !! Courteous staff and owner and quick service.. A well found “Tripti” to my longing taste for quality but differently styled South Indian delicacy !! A true value for money and a must try..
Pocket friendly restaurant. We had ordered cold coffee with icecream.. Which was good in taste but was less cold.Onion paranthas were good too.
I ordered Idli Upma from here it was very good. The have had dosas from here too, they are equally amazing.I tried kesari today but i didn't like it much.Service was very quick.Great experience.
It's a lovely place for those who prefer South Indian platter. Staff good. Manager is friendly, which makes the atmosphere humble and soothing for having your Lunch or dinner. Pure Vegetarian's haven. I wish the meals they could be more cheaper in cost. Otherwise I'd have gone there everyday. Something good, healthy. Breaks the scenario of Hotel cooking or Restaurant cooking. It's more than like a highly home made preparation with piping hot, fresh and good food cooked when we order. You can also see the cooking stuff and staff to make sure your meals are properly made.. I liked it.
90's favorite 'Malgudi Days' that's the memory which you can relieve at this place.
An authentic South Indian Restaurant, by authentic i literally mean it to be authentic to it's core. Finger licking, tangy, tummy filling if these are what's your brain and stomach is craving for; this is the place.
I can say try everything that's on the menu.
Coffee (Filter Kaapi 😜) is a must!!
Ask them for their Day's Special Dish.
Amazing food quality. One of d best south indian food available in kolkata. Speciality - Butter garlic masala dosa.
good place for south indian food, from breakfast options like idli dosa to meal.
this place had saved our mornings in Kolkata.
location is good & accessible, place is clean, staff is friendly, & food is yummy.
Food ,service ,quality and the pricing is all what Malgudi provides, and Walla it has a free parking too.must try mashroom dosa
Clean uncluttered “Malgudi Days” themed interior. Tasty food and Filter coffee.
Nice and warm place for South Indian delicacies. Very much authentic taste. A bit spicy and hot preparations may not suit everyone who cannot have chillies. Otherwise neat and clean pretty decent place. Service very prompt and courteous. It's a great place to visit regularly with family.
The Menu is fantastic and the food is fresh and healthy! The Moor is a must try. They have experimented a bit with their classics but it works! The Malgudi theme almost makes you feel nostalgic. A lovely staff is a plus here. Have also tried take-out from here and I must say I was not disappointed! Not a bad place to hop in for a nice lunch! Totally recommended!
Clean, cozy nice outlet for having south Indian dishes. Menu card claims they serve freshly prepared items. After having their Dhosa I feel that claim is not baseless. Location is also fine. Inside, Malgudi sketches are worth mentioning!
The joint is quite comfortable for a quick meal/ snacks. The food quality is really good and the service is super prompt. They have a large variety of Dosa's which we generally don't get elsewhere.
