Udipi Home is one of my favourite for South Indian food.
It has various range and varieties of dishes.
The food is very delicious, tempting and it has an affordable price for the dishes.
The staff out there are nice in behaviour and helpful too.
Coming towards the food we ordered Cheese Dosa was one of the most delicious which made me repeat the dish all yet again.
Masala Paper Dosa which was quite crispy and crunchy tasty at the same time.
Overall it's a nice South Indian food joint.

I've had idli so many times but this time it was different. Tried the fried idli for the first time and I loved it. It was crispy and went well with the coconut chutney. Was slightly full otherwise I wanted to some other dishes as well. Hope to visit soon to add some more dishes in the review.
Kolkata has a rich tradition of south Indian people making the city their home since the 40s. As is obvious their craving for their own style of food paved way for eateries being set up specifically to serve south Indian food, mostly around the lake market area. Rao's Udipi is one such place. Serving authentic and tasty veg food, even to Dr. Kalam during his visit to kolkata as the then president. Try this place if you want a taste of authentic south Indian veg food.
Food :
* Idli - they serve 2 idlis in 1 plate which none of the other south Indian restaurant in Kolkata do. Value for money and good to taste but they not that soft and melt in your mouth. Also they do not have Molgapudi.
* Mysore sada - the chutney in the dosa had a peculiar smell and that's why it affected the taste. It was as if it was spoilt .
* Chutney - they serve 3 chutney s and all of them delicious.
* Sambar - served in tiny katori and has a lot of veggies. There is no liquid ! Tastes good though. They should increase the quantity
* Filter coffee - really delicious and frothy
Ambience - nothing fancy but those pillar sure give a nostalgic old school vibe

Apparently the place that catered APJ Abdul Kalam's food when he visited the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata (a poster with the laurel is displayed prominently at the entrance of the place).
Visited the place for a quick lunch. Very simple, no air conditioning. But great food! We ordered the lunch thali - it came with two types of rice (a big portion of plain rice, and some spicy lemon rice on the side). The lemon rice was hot but very tasty. Accompanying were two curries (of course one of them a potato curry), rasam, sambhar and coconut milk. Not to forget the papad. The rasam was spicier than the sambhar and went very well with the plain rice. There was a small dessert as well (looked like Mysore Pak).
On the visit-again-list. To try out more dishes :)

It has 2 floor indoor seating arrangement which can accommodate upto 25-30 people. It also has an outdoor seating arrangement for 4 people. It has a very simple ambience but the staffs are pretty friendly.

The dosa was perfectly made. It was pretty crisp with sufficient filling inside. Along with sambar they also provide you with 3 different types of chatni. It's a must try for all the dosa lover's out there.
Nostalgic feelings are to be expected when it comes to this restaurant. The pillars inside the restaurant remind you of the architecture style that was prevalent long before Independence. The old South Indian styled restaurant is perfect for the bittersweet 'addas' with friends. The filter coffee along with other South Indian dishes are it's speciality.

This place is located around seven or eight minutes away from the Deshapriya Park Crossing on foot. It has two storeys and sits probably twenty to thirty people in all. The ground floor section was entirely empty for the period I was there on a Friday evening, one lasting about forty minutes. The ambience is ordinary,but the staff are helpful and keep attending to you. I ordered two drinks, a Watermelon Shake, and it was good, the rock salt in it augmenting the taste superbly. The Mango Shake was unavailable. The Filter Coffee was excellent, certainly the second best one I've tasted after the one at The Coastal Macha. I had Sambar Idly, comprising two cakes, and it was decent, if not spectacular. The chutneys served were each good in their own way, but the Coconut Chutney was easily the best. I ended the meal with Cheese Onion Rava Dosa, and it was utterly monumental. It was also one of the best things I've ever tasted. It was filled with little shreds of cheese that weeee delicious, and the texture was utterly perfect. The Curry and Sambar along with it combined well with the core ingredient, and it's a dish I would most definitely recommend. The whole meal came to ₹ 360/-, so it's also very light on the pocket. I would like to go back here soon and savour more of what is on offer.

Udipi home is known for their honest & authentic South Indian food. Stopped here several times for breakfast.
On my last visit, I had Masala Dosa and Sambar Vada followed by a cup of Filter Coffee. I am not a big fan of South Indian cuisine, but this place doesn't fail to surprise me! I really like each and every items here, specially their flavourful chutneys are my favorite.
So, if you want to have some good Dosa, idli or uttapam, you gotta come here. It's located in the small alley opposite to Desapriya Park Petrol Pump.
Oh! I almost forgot to tell you, don't miss the filter coffee here - it's amazing!

One of the best and most authentic South Indian food joint just a few minutes walk from deshapriya park. This place is love at first sight. It's quaint and no one disturbs you while you spend a good time in their dimly lit seating area. The cheese masala dosa for rupees 100 tasted good with a good amount of shredded cheese and they serve four types of chutney with sambar which is an absolute delight. Their filter coffee for 30 bucks is a must try if you are aware of how to drink it. It just refreshes your mind. Highly recommended. The amount is reasonable and quantity is good.

Loved the plain dosa and onion uttapam. What intrigued me more was the three types of chutney that they serve in abundance along with all the dishes. They serve a conventional white coconut chutney, a green coriander & coconut chutney and a peanut coconut chutney. And trust me, all of these was yum. One would love them to the gut of they are a south Indian cuisine lover.

My love for South Indian cuisine again took me to Udipi Home. This was my second visit. I love masala dosa so for a variety I ordered Onion Rava Masala Dosa. It was crispy and the added onion perfectly accentuated it. Ah ! Fresh !! The variety of Rava in Dosa is very interesting and as per me I prefer it more. The masala in Dosa was yummy and I was licking my fingers already before I could realise it. The three different chutney breaked the monotony of the meal and it tasted delicious. Great combination. The sambhar was tasty and a second serving was offered without asking for it. Good observation. The staffs were prompt in their service I must say. My craving for south indian food perfectly ended with a happy tummy.

I visited during evening and the restaurant was not properly lit, atleast some sections were not lit at all. A vibrant interior in a restaurant gives one a welcoming feeling. Apart from that my food sojourn was very satisfying and comforting. Burp !!

I have been going to this place for a long time and tasted many of their food.The best one is definitely the masala dosa.They serve it with 3 different chutneys and it tastes amazing !
Apart from that I tasted their cheese masala dosa and butter masala dosa as well and they are pretty good too.Their mixed uttapam is however not that good.

Clean ,unpretentious,no frills Udupi restaurant serving authentic fare.It is at the left lane just before Deshapriya Park Crossing when coming from Lake Stadium side.They have the usual South Indian vegetarian dishes but they also have their day's specials.
Quite a popular hangout with the local crowd ,this place boasts of high level of hygiene,great menu and a very prompt,efficient and polite service.It isn't air-conditioned,though.But the thick walls of the old building in which the restaurant is situated,keeps the place pleasant in summer months.
An order of 3 Masala Dosas,1mixed Masala Utthapam & 2 coffees cost only Rs 390(tax included) which is very reasonable.

Being born & brought up in Tamil Nadu helped me appreciate the subtle yet unique flavours of the state. At one point even forgot that I was a Bengali. And just when I gave up hope in Kolkata about Southern flavours, I found this place.

Located at southern avenue, a difficult to find, but its beside the landmarks- kamala girls high school and oudh 1590, thank god for the GPS. I dont know why is the place is under-rated. I loved the south indian delicacies, uthappam and dosa, both were yummy. I loved the chutneys served along with it. My overall experince in terms of taste is my rating points. Nevertheless, the decor and ambience isn't much pleasing though. But if you only want to gorge on food, then you must try.

Was craving for South Indian food again so decided to drop in into this joint. The interior looked like it is from the british era. Old walls , big doors which greatly complimented the ambience. We ordered masala dosa and cold coffee. The dosa was served within 10mins but the coffee was served after almost half an hour, which was a bit too much time for making a glass 9d cold coffee. The dosa was nicely stuffed and really tasty. There were 3 kinds of chutney - white, orange and green. The orange one dod not taste great. The others were good enough including the sambar.
There are no waiters when you need extra servings. I literally had to wait a good 5 mins to get extra sambar and chutney served. Overall a satisfying experience but they really need to work on their service a lot.

This place is famous for the different chatnis they serve with all their south Indian dishes. Apart from the usual sambar and coconut chutney they also serve a green and a red chatni.
The place doesn't have an ambiance but it's a clean place to dine in. The waiters are prompt when it comes to service and the food is piping hot .
I am biased to their sada vadas. You must try it if you're here. The others items I feel taste the same as those served by various South Indian restaurants scattered throughout the city . The chatnis are equally good . Make sure you give this place a shot next time you're in the area .

Udipi was our go to place for south indian food... Usually after catching a movie at Priya! I have always loved their crispy dosa and rava idlies... And the array of chutney and condiments ... And as students on a tight budget udipi was the choice to hang out while savouring lovely "south indian tiffin" and enjoying the DPP view!
Fried idly is a must try. Curd rice doesn't suit my appetite but its a best seller here. Rava dosa and masala utappam is good to taste. One can try onion dosa even.

I haven't tasted dosa as good as this in Kolkata. The Chutneys were unique and tasty. The food is very simple yet tasty with the original flavours of South.
It is so close to my office, but never went there until yesterday when one of my friend took me there. Had heard about it before so was wanting to taste the food. The ambience was very homely and the food lived up to my expectation. I personally like my dosas a bit thicker; not a fan of paper dosas and it was just about perfect for me. Price is really reasonable and the best part no tax added to the bills. I am surely returning to this place time and again.

I had this fascinating fried idly in town for the first time! It was nicely prepared and tasted like home made delicacy. The charm of this culinary destination lies in its ' recluse ambience'. You spend hours together, pampered with the prompt service of the staff.

Well, I found Udupi Home to be a good experience. It's not a posh place. The ground floor is the restaurant in an old house in Deshapriya Park. Not air conditioned so you'll feel the heat. Food is great. Bang for the buck. Since people regularly visit this place, food is fresh and that too for this price. I have a deep love for South Indian Thaali since I stayed in Chennai for around two years. Thaali here reminded me of my days in South India. Felt good.
Complete Value for money. Halthy Food. Though I wish the Thali would really be "Thali" but for that price i guess it's okay ! The Rasam is amazing. The Chaas when taken in the afternoon is just originally great ! But avoid Chaas here in the night since the taste differs. They probably make it like we do at home out of curd. I normally go to have a lot of Rasam and Chaas !! Rest, the food speaks for itself ! Wish you Happy Serving !
As the name Udipi suggests you get the not so popular Karnataka variety of south Indian food.. but having said not so popular doesn't mean it's any less tasty. . I lived in bangalore for a while and if it's that variety I'm in the mood for I'll just convince the others with me to head to Udipi home
Udipi Home is an old eatery around Deshapriya Park crossing which proudly served the erstwhile President His Excellency Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. It is run by a Malayali family for several decades now. The house serves as a guest house with a restaurant in the verandah which serves hot and fresh meals. Udipi home is typically for those days when you want veg lunch in particular. Udipi home may lack the appearance but it does not lack in quality. That's Tomato Rice for you !!
A lovely south indian restaurant in desapriya park. Has a very cute little entrance but is pretty spacious and big from inside. From dosas to idlis they have got it all covered. The vada is also amazing. Loved the fresh watermelon juice here. Highly recommended for any one looking for a south indian option.👌
A proper South Kolkata "Bonidi Baari" with huge varandas turned into an antique South Indian joint serving delicious South Indian food. This place is very spacious with a seating arrangement for about more than 30 people. Decor and ambiance is pleasing. Service is a bit on the slower side.

But their butter dosa is something I really loved.This one is really mouth melting. Ambience is good.

Been here with some of my foodie friends for breakfast. Udipi was one of the oldest south indian cuisine serving restaurant of kolkata and the one which serves the most delicious south indian dishes. Restaurant was beautifully designed and decorated. Retro looks was given. Bricks walls, classic lighting, classy tables and south india atmosphere. Ambience was really cool and hospitality was very impressive. Friendly and helpful staff. Service in reasonable time and presentation was superb. Price was bit high but their taste, quality and quantity deserve what they charging. We started with the fresh watermelon juice which was fully refreshing and tastes heavenly. We ordered sambhar idli, vendu bada, butter masala dosa and paper dosa. All were made Traditionally and tastes true south indian. Very tasty dosa's, idli and vendu bada served with sambhar cooked in desi ghee and tri colored coconut chatni. Orange made with tomato, coconut and garlic, green made with coriander leaves, coconut and green chillies and which was simply coconut chatni. Best place to have south indian dishes. Personal favorite. Must try place highly recommended to all.

One of the oldest south indian joints in the city, this place is one of the top hits if you're looking for a good breakfast. The prices are comparatively on the higher side, considering the state of the joint. However, the idli, dosa, vadas and even the fruit juices quite maje up for it. Am not a big fan of South Indian cuisine, but I found their sambar and coconut chutney delicious. Also, the fruit juice provides a nice start to the day.
Udipi Home is a big crowd attraction near Deshapriyo Park. Their South India dishes are wonderful. I visited here, location is not much difficult to find. Get down at the Rashbihari Av and Sarat Bose Road junction and walk about 3mins will take you here.

I love the dosas they prepare esp the coconut chutney is fab. The presentation is too good. They cleanliness they maintain, very hygienic which was quite impressive.The customer service they provide is too good, fast and on time. And the dishes are at reasonable rates. The food is outstanding. Go for it.

Amazing food accompanied by a simple ambience and moderate prices. The only thing which has a room for improvement is the service. The waiters are simply inhuman towards the customers.
Seems to be an old place. Not having a trendy look inside. But great tasty food and good service. A good place for a chitchat with friends over a cup of tea or coffee. They have good filter coffee. The food was tasty and pocket friendly. The ambience was pleasant though it looks old. Good authentic South Indian dishes....
I ordered Masala dosa and Filter Coffee. The dosa was good. The coconut chutney and the pudina chutney was okayish and masala was okayish. The dosa was crispy and the sambhar was good. Filter coffee is also good. You can ask for more chutney and sambhar. Ambience is very old. It's a old building. Service is fast.

This place serves best authentic South Indian food. Completely a bliss for Indian Traveller staying in nusa dua area. It's a bit pricey but definitely worth every penny. The staff are so helpful with orders and guide you thoroughly to order what suits you according to your taste.

What a food we had. Full authentic South Indian food. We ordered uthappam and masala dosha. The chutney and samber also awesome. This is best south Indian food I ever had. The quality was also very good. Will go again whenever I will get chance.
The food is authentic however the customer service is a bit off. They take a long time to serve and packing is not good. However food is excellent . We ordered vada and it was very crispy and perfect with green chutney. Overall it's a very god restaurant with tasty food and reasonable price

I have come to know about this restaurant through a vlog... a nice place to dine in. The ambience is pretty cool, just like home. I have tried butter masala dosa, fried idly. Both of them are good in quality and. The menu is very pocket friendly. dosa is just 120 Rs and fried idly is 80 Rs. So, for 200 Rs you can get a good lunch. Service is very prompt. Like the ambience and the food too. If you are a south Indian food lover, you can surely visit this place.

Authentic South Indian cuisine. It was my first time here and loved the masala dosa. The menu is elaborate and affordable. Agarbatti, pickles, molaga podi masala and juices from South India are also available here. Recommended !!
Budget eatery that's been there for decades, serving quality South Indian food. Service and serving time are worthy of appreciation and quantity of food is also good. Only drawback being the fact that Puri sabji wasn't that tasty. The ambience is peaceful and the decor is like that of a vintage house.
This is the best South Indian food available in Kolkata. The fried idli is a must try and onion butter dosa is my favorite one. I have tried some of the sweets and desserts but they are quite average. The food quality according to the cost is very good. Moreover, you will get a good parking space outside the restaurant.
