I've always been on the lookout for great tasting Indian coastal food which has unfortunately led to a number of disappointments! So last night at the Bakery Carnival Calcutta Club, albeit with some trepidation, I tried the Appam and mutton curry from Pappadam. People - you've got to try it to believe it - pretty darn awesome!!! All I can say is my quest for the perfect coastal cuisine ends at Pappadam ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ

Pappadam is located at 5min walking distance from Rabindra Sarovar Metro. The place is beautifully decorated in Coastal Theme with vibrant yellow! Pappadam specialises in Coastal Dishes and they have an ongoing kerala food festival right now till 15th March!
What I tried from their food festival menu,

๐Ÿ”นSquid masala fry
๐Ÿ”ธCheera thoran (spinach)
๐Ÿ”นFish Mappas
๐Ÿ”ธAppam
๐Ÿ”นPayasam

The squid masala fry was amazing as a starter. It was perfectly cooked. The cheera thoran was unique for me, never tried anything like it. We had the appam with fish mappas. The appam was very soft and fluffy, perfect for scooping the fish mappas curry. The fish was delicate and fresh too! Finally finished off with the delicious payasam.

Pappadam located at Southern Avenue specialises in coastal cuisines along with touch of flavours of kolkata. This place can be easily accessible from Rabindra Sarovar Metro Station Gate no 1(5mins walking distance from Mudiali Club). Visited this place few days ago while Kerela Food Festival was going on( till 15th of March) over there and tried out some of their newly added dishes. The ambience is very pretty with bright colours, lights and paintings of South India.

Starters:

Squid Masala Fry: Spicy, flavourful and perfectly cooked.

Mushroom Roast: Soft pieces of mushrooms cooked in spicy- tangy sauces, chopped onions and garlic. Totally recommended.

Cheera Thoran: Chopped spinach cooked with grated coconut and mustard seeds. This dish was quite unique, flavourful light, delicious and nutritious as well.

Kerala Kadala Curry: Kerala Kadala Curry is a South Indian version Spicy flavourful curry made with chickpeas, coconut milk and mustard seeds. It had tangy and spicy flavour and can be paired up well with appam.

Appam: White ,lacy, soft, tasty pancakes made with fermented rice batter and coconut milk having a crisp side with an airy, soft on touch, fluffy center.

Fish Mappas: A spicy fish curry made with juicy, soft, fresh bhetki fillets and then cooked in coconut milk.

Coconut Rice: Light, tasty & mild south indian coconut rice prepared by soaking white rice in coconut milk or made with fresh fresh grated coconut and tempering spices.

Buttermilk: Refreshing, tangy spicy flavour drink with perfect thickness. Highly recommended.
Payasam: A perfect dessert with light sweetness to end up this lavish meal.

The service of this place is great abd the staffs are courteous. A must visit for all of you.

Squid masala fry - The squids came in small pieces and tasted really good. The blend of spices was perfect.
Mushroom roast - This was another starter and i liked it.
Fish Mappas (bhetki) - The pieces were succulent and soft. Highly recommended
Kerala kadala curry - This was more like channa masala.
Appam - One can have appam with anything. The appam tasted good.

Ambience of this place is very nice and well decorated with bright lights and paintings related to South India.
Last week I visited this place to try some lipsmacking keralian foods which they are serving for the Kerlian food festival. This festival will last till 15th March.
I tried,
Squid masala fry- it was not so spicy yet very tasty and light. Loved the flavour of that dish.
Mushroom roast- this one is highly recommended. Soft mushrooms cooked in hot and tangy spices along with chopped onions and garlic.
Cheera thoran (spinach)- it is a savoury side dish from kerala. Chopped spinach mixed and cooked along with grated coconut, mustard seeds. It is a very delicious and nutritious dish.
Kerala kadala curry- it is spicy and flavourful chickpeas curry. I tried it with appam and loved the combination.
Payasam- perfect dessert to end your meal. Gobindhobhog rice cooked in milk with some cardamoms, bayleaves, raisins ans cashews. Taste was really great and not that much sweet.
Service here was upto the mark. Staffs are polite and courteous.
Overall i had a great experience here. I tried keralian food for the first time and i love it.

Pappadam is located at mudiali area and the nearest metro is Rabindra Sarovar metro station. We visited yesterday here to have our dinner and after reaching out there we came to know that Kerala food Festival is going on. So we were very curious to try something from that menu and we started with light spicy masala squid fry. Then we opted for thin and soft appam along with Kerala kadala curry which was very rich with coconut milk. After that we tried coconut rice along with Fish mappas. Fresh and juicy bhetki fillets cooked in a coconut milk based gravy , a perfect companion with the rice. This is a amazing place to have coastal cuisine foods. Prices are reasonable and affordable.

When we think about South Indian we think about Dosa, Idli, Bada and Sambar all of these vegetarian dishes only. But forget that south India is mainly a costal area and that is why this cuisines will befinately have some dishes of fish. Also there is community called Chettinad is a totally non vegetarian community. Pappadam is the place where we can discover those cuisines and the fantastic dishes. Let's talk some of the dishes of this place.

1. Squid Kalimirch: The name of the dish defines all about itself. The squit is one of the popular sea food which is very well coocked in Kalimirch. This is very crispy and yummy and the flavor of the Kalimirch makes it awesome.

In Kolkata, we have seen numerous South Indian restaurants which serve dosa, idli, uttapam etc like veg food. There are very few restaurants in Kolkata which serve non-veg South Indian food. Pappadam is one of them that came up with the idea of serving not only non-veg South Indian cuisine but also serving some delicious veg food.
Pappadam is located near Mudiali, adjacent to The Biryanishk main outlet.
Their interior graffiti, decorations all will create a lovely atmosphere.
Currently in Pappadam, Kerala Food Festival is going on and I have tried some dishes from the festival menu.
I had tried-
Cheera thoran (spinach)
Fish Mappas (bhetki)
Kerala kadala curry,
Appam,
Coconut rice.
Starting with Appam, appam basically looks like dosa but size is smaller than dosa and taste is quite different. It tasted sweet and sour at the same time. Size was like the size of normal Roti.
Coconut rice was quite good, one serving portion is enough for a person.
The authentic Cheera thoran is made of Red Spinach, but since in Kolkata red spinach is not available, they made it with normal green spinach. It was a very light weight dish, made with roasted daal, mustard and of course coconut.
Fish mappas is a very good side dish for appam and coconut rice. Fish were really soft in this dish.
Lastly kerala kadala curry, the South Indian version of Chickpeas curry, made with coconut milk, mustard etc.
Overall itโ€™s a must try place for all South Indian foodlovers.

Trying out some coastal cuisine after a long time at Pappadam. This is located at Southern Avenue and serves some coastal cuisines with a touch of the flavours of kolkata. I was amazed to try out a few dishes.
The Squid Kali Mirch and Chicken 65 as starters were very well chosen. Having had past experiences with squid, it tends to become bland but they had balanced the flavours very well. Chicken 65 has always been one of my favourite starters.
Coming to the main course, I tried some Lemon Rice with Chicken Chettinad. The South Indian flavours are just mesmerising and I absolutely loved it. We also had Appam, which is a kind of a pancake made out ground rice and Coconut milk. This is very soft and tasty and tastes delicious with Mutton Stew, a fairly simple dish.
It was a pleasurable experience at Pappadam. Thank you for inviting me over.

Pappadam is located at Mudiali, which is just 10 mins walking distance from the Rabindra Sarovar metro station. The interior is quite classy and they have a comfortable searing area . More than 20 people can dine at a time. The interior decoration has a touch of coastal area so do the dishes here at pappadam. Coming to the food we tried :-

Squid kala mirch :- This seafood starter dish is a must try here. The squid was if good quality and it was nicely cooked with black pepper . Additionally they used some other spices too.

Chicken 65 :- It was prepared with a hint of coastal taste. With some popular south Indian spices and the soft and juicy chicken, this will surely make you fall love with this one.

Chicken Chettinad :- Highly recommended chicken gravy item from this place. It is a classic Indian recipe made with south indian spices and coconut. It was not too spicy and reach yet a delicious dish to have with rice or appam.

Mutton stew :- This was my first time to try this dish with a costal cuisine touch. But it was so yummy and wondeful. The stew was not too spicy but the coconut flavour with kurry leaves combination gives a royal taste of this dish. The mutton was cooked very well and with the some other veggies and potato it was superb.

Appam :- It is a type of pancake, originating from South India and Sri Lanka, made with fermented rice batter and coconut milk. Had the exact taste of appam here. It went well with mutton stew.

Lemon rice :- This special type of rice has a lemony flavour with some wondeful spices and different pulses. The flavour and the aroma both were just fantastic. It is a perfect companion with the chettinad chicken.

Overall it is a highly recommended place to have coastal delicacies. The price the dishes is reasonable ( 700/- for 2). The ambiance and the service both are superb. A must visit place for lunch or dinner with friends and families.

Pappadam is compact with a homely setting of furniture, and bright lights, giving it a joyful and comfortable approach. The emphasis lies largely on Goan food, as well as Coastal/Seafood delicacies. The dishes are of a soothing nature, as use exotic spices for their recipes.

Some of the recipes we tried here include:

โ–ช๏ธChicken 65: The dish is spicy yet rightly so with embedded flavours of South Indian spices. The chicken is cooked well, and makes for a great experimental snack.

โ–ช๏ธLemon Rice: This comforting dish of long-grained yellow rice, couldn't be any better. This hits all the levels of flavour with added coconut shreds and makes for a good meal.

โ–ช๏ธMutton Stew: Light, with a taste of sweet and creamy this stew is not to be missed out on at the slightest.

In case you're craving the touch of light, delicious, and feel-good Indian dishes, this is definitely your place to go. Pappadam makes it an easy breezy experience for it's customers so do drop by! ๐Ÿ˜Š

First time I tried it was a complete experiment as suggested by Zomato. And we weren't dissapointed. The crab ghee roast, regular appam and egg appam were finger licking good. The prawn sukka passable. Quantities on the smaller side...but overall a very good experience.

A week later, had guests over and decided to order with them. While I had been informed that the food will take an hour, it came after 1 hour 25 min. The crab roast quantity seemed much lesser than in the restaurant (but since this is a subjective judgement, I might be wrong).

However, what irked me most was that, with guests over and the food coming as late as it did, when I presented a Rs. 2000 note for a bill of Rs. 1685, the delivery person said he does not have change. I even said that just 300 return is fine. But moreover he categorically said that their restaurant does not have the system of change. In this day and age of food deliveries, this answer was quite unexpected. To settle the matter, I paid him exactly 1685, fishing around for change.

2 days later I called the restaurant to share this feedback and ask whether truly they expect each customer to pay them the exact bill amount? The lady answering apologised. But I wanted to speak with the owner and left my phone number for a call back. Intention only was to sensitise the owners that all the good food hard work gets undone by this service issue. Till today I never received a call back. So just sharing my experience here. Not a criticism of the food...but I was offended/disappointed by the way the money change aspect was handled both by the delivery person and the restaurant lady manager. I am business owner myself and would want to know if any part of my customer's experience has been negative. Sharing this here in the hope that the Pappadum owners are like minded people.

Bill attached for reference.

I've been to this place 3 times now... and their "Crab Mangalorean Ghee Roast" served without shell (ordered on all three occasions) simply never failed to captivate me. The rich aroma and that "oh-so-delectable" taste of this dish make me want to book a cab to Pappadam every now and then. If you love shell-less crab dishes, this one must be a top priority in your wishlist without fail.

Apart from this gem, do try out their squid starters and main course items. I've tried their "Squid Kali Mirch" and "Squid Chettinad", and neither of these two disappointed me a single bit. The Appams and the "Mutton Chettinad" are just what you expect them to be, as well.

However, the only letdown of this joint is its staff and service. On two out of three occasions, there were small private parties booking a few tables... and if that's the case when you visit here, don't expect service to be anywhere close to prompt or attentive. If you complain for too long, you may get served a plate of "Kesri Halwa" as an apology though!

Visited few days ago with a friend to taste some Goan cuisine. This outlet is in collaboration with another Biriyani joint so you will get 2 menu, one with Goan cuisine and another with Mughlai.
The decoration is mediocre with wobbly table which was pretty annoying.
Now let's come to food, which was fantastic. We ordered Pepper fried Chicken, Mutton ghee roast and a pot of biriyani which serves 3. One thing that needs to be changed is the pieces of mutton in the biriyani. For 3 people there should be either 3 or 6 pieces but there was 5 and even out of which 2 pieces were mostly bone. Still the biriyani was delicious and not a bit oily and the mutton was succulent. Overall we had a nice lunch.

A small place located on S.R.Das Road, it serves both seafood and Mughlai cuisine under 2 brand names as both are owned by the same person. Visited the restaurant more than a month back with a friend for lunch . Tasted squid for starters followed by a mutton dish which I had with Malabar Paratha and Appams. Since I was not used to having either of the two before, they were a welcome change for me . The gravy was a little less in the Mutton dish but the taste was okay. My friend enjoyed his Pomfret curry very much and was unaware of the existence of Pappadam before I took him. The staff were very courteous and helped us to order dishes as per our choice . Had heard about the place from others since it is also there at Calcutta Club and they had food there . Hope to have the Mughlai food too one day.

Coastal Cuisine is one genre which I am particularly fond of. And whenever I come across any outlet serving the same, I do keep the same on my checklist of 'places to visit'.

The place is a 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' kind of an outlet, which serves Mughlai food under the name of 'Biryanishk by The Biryani Company' and Coastal Cuisine under the name of 'Pappadam', all huddled under one roof. Contrary to the rather quirky metaphor I used, there's nothing sinister cooking out there. Instead, I see much promise in the vast array of food they have to offer, under both the identities. And the decor is neatly done with bright mustard yellow walls, a medium sized aquarium (don't expect the fishes, squids and crabs in the menu floating out there) and wooden furniture to complete the look.

So, my first tryst with this place was marked by me ordering their Malabar Paratha and Mysore Mutton Sukka.
The Malabar Paratha was crisp yet soft enough to tear by two fingers.
It's the Mutton Sukka that piqued my interest. Tender and succulent, decent sized chunks of almost boneless Mutton, came adorned in a dry gravy. However, the fiery flavours so typical of the Sukka down South, was somewhat missing. It was a rather subdued version of what I am familiar with. However, the notes of Garam Masala, Star Anise, Fennel and Black Pepper were evident and left a distinct aftertaste, which did redeem things to a larger extent. In spite of being somewhat subdued in the fiery factor, the dish was indeed pleasant.
While having a friendly banter with the server, I learnt that the Chef had deliberately kept the overall flavours 'balanced', but I do feel there will be room for certain 'adjustments' in the forthcoming visit.

This place certainly demands further visits. I am currently sticking to a rating of 4 out of 5, until I taste their other items including the Sukka, the next time around.

This sea food joint was on my bucket list for a long time. The decor and interiors are very vibrant and so is the food. We ordered Squid Kali Mirch, Crab Ghee Roast and Malabar Paratha. Squid was very spicy, just the way we wanted it. Ghee Roast and Malabar Paratha were lip smacking. The only thing that was disappointing was the quantity. Aniket Mallick

It takes me back to a night in Panaji: I am sitting in our room in a heritage Portuguese villa, mopping up Mangalorean chicken sukkha with some stale pao. Aninda has turned off the tube-lights and lit two candles. In the dull gold shimmer, the room reverberates with shadows. Humidity, drunk with the scent of rain and sea, perfumes the air. On my tongue is a bite-sized piece of chicken. The semi-dry gravy is mostly grated coconut, its texture somewhat coarse, like that of reluctant velvet. It has been lightly fried with roasted spices and dried red chillies; the heat is enticing. It pops like starbursts upon my taste buds. We eat in silence, both of us using pieces of pao as boats for the chicken, for the gravy. We are so engrossed in the food, tasting for the first time the culinary nuances of ingredients used in kitchens on the Konkan coast, that we hardly notice how romantic theย monsoon evening is.

This place is located at Mudiali, around ten minutes away on foot from Rashbehari More. My sister and I visited this place on 15/3/2019. They have two separate menus, a biriyani one and a coastal one, and we stuck to the latter one for our visit. The decor is good and appealing, and the service is very good, and the guy who served us was very polite and helpful. It took a little time for them to get started, but then the food came quickly. While we were waiting, we Weber two papads and some pickles. The food was served in cute containers that added to the effect of the place. We started off with the Crab Masala Fry Without Shell, and it was a terrific begining. It's a dish I'd definitely recommend, a delicate mixture of spices and delectable crab combining to form an item that was quite memorable. The buttermilk that we were served was also top notch, and it's another item I'd recommend, the presence of ginger and coriander leaves within it making it all really spectral. Then, came the main course, and the Veg Malabar Curry was what we went for along with the Malabari Paratha, of which we were served two. Two were enough for the two of us, and they were soft and yet sturdy, and, of course, delicious, and it went beautifully with the Curry, rendered brilliantly with curry leaves being the outstanding flavour as slices of paneer, peas and carrots, among other things, formed a very good dish. Next, we went for the Steamed Rice and Chicken Chettinad, and the latter was the standout dish for us. It was certainly better than the one we'd had earlier, and it was again perfect to be consumed with rice, with soft, well done pieces of chicken filled with flavour, the flavour of curry leaves reigning supreme again. We ended with Keshari Halwa, not an extraordinary dessert, but good enough, certainly, arranged much like a pudding would be. The pocket pinch is on the higher side here; along with a pack of takeaway Kesari Halwa, the whole meal above cost us โ‚น 1386/-, and the Chicken Chettinad was a little short on the number of pieces, I felt, and I was also disappointed upon being told that either pork in itself or Pork Vindaloo in particular had been discontinued at the place, but, overall, it was a lovely gastronomical experience, and I look forward to many more flavourful and delightful visits.

Visited last night for dining with my family. This happens to be my fastest planned visit. This place is absolutely worthy of all my rates. The place is quite hidden which definitely reflects in the less number of customers. I really liked the 3D theme design which makes the ambience quite attractive.
I have always craved for different cuisines which brought me here for their goan style food. In the starters we ordered potato sukka and babycorn 65, then in the mains we had neer dosa in staples with chicken ghee roast and bhetki goan curry and finished the course with fresh lime soda. Babycorn 65 was really fresh and soft unlike other babycorn dishes I had before. All the dishes tasted really different but chicken ghee roast and neer dosa needs special mention and is also highly recommended.
Right from good ambience, cordeal staff to great food everything deserves all the appreciation. Wish to visit again for sure.

I'll give 4.4 to this place for it's chest full of coastal treasure that it has to offer us...

The decor is lovely with some authentic feel, the staff is also courteous...

Starting off with the lassi was a fantasy, that went higher as we munched our way through dishes like crab meat, to chicken chettinad, to egg appam...

The appam is something you can try without thinking twice complimenting with chicken chettinad... The lemon rice was also well cooked...

Decent amounts for 2-3 people...

Overall a perfect place to go down south for a tasty extravaganza...

The place is extremely pretty, like being inside a Malgudi Days book. The server was very polite, and the food was fantastic.

We ordered the following items from the Pappadam menu:

Tamarind rasam - steaming hot, served in earthen pots, had the most unique flavour
Buttermilk - chilled, thick, wholesome.

Lemon rice - beautifully zingy, but the lemon wasn't too overpowering. It had peanut bits in it which I personally loved.
Malabar chicken - it was light, non-spicy, slightly sweet, and went really well with the rice.

They gave us complimentary papad too.

And it's not expensive at all. Very pocket friendly.

Overall, great experience!

At the very onset, 'Pappadam' looked bright with a 3-D wall painting and yellow tone. I always love a restaurant serving a particular cuisine, rather than being a multi-cuisine one. Pappadam nailed in this aspect with a selection of coastal menu that looks concise and specific. First, we placed an order for 'Mysore squid sukka' as starter and buttermilk as beverage. Soon after came the complimentary fried papad and roasted red chilly. The squid preparation was outstanding, full of flavors and a treat for taste buds. Buttermilk was nicely made and tasted well. For main course, we selected 'neer dosa' with 'mutton ghee roast'.ย  Neer dosa looked delicate and tasted extremely delicious. Mutton ghee roast tasted good; however, we missed the aroma of ghee here. Probably the strong aroma of 'curry patta' and other South Indian spices overshadowed the aromatic presence of ghee in this particular dish. Kesari halwa was our choice for dessert and we loved this sweet-note.ย  We enjoyed venturing the coastal delicacies of pappadam and wish to visit this place again to try some other preparations.

Pappadam serves Coastal Dishes. The USP of this place is its quality coastal foods at reasonable price. The interior is very bright and eye catching. We were given complimentary papads which tasted average.Ordered โ€œMysore Potato Sukkaโ€ which tasted spicy but quantity was very less for the price charged.Next came โ€œVeg Chettinadโ€ and it was accompanied with โ€œAppamโ€ & โ€œMysore Parathaโ€ which tasted fabulous and it was an amazing combination.Service was good.

They were hosting a Goan Festival in the month of December among which most of the items were not available which was really irritating as this was for one month and hosted by them only.If dishes are not available in the self decided festival then what is point of hosting the festival.

Overall it was a good experience from the regular menu and price is reasonably charged compared to other coastal food serving restaurants in Kolkata.

This quaint and quiet restaurant is nestled in one of the bylanes of Southern Avenue, just a few metres from the Mudiali Club.
A far cry from the places with music so loud that you can't hear yourself speak, this place is perfect for long conversations over good food. The decor is very simple and soothing, the ambience is peaceful and the staff are courteous.
Pappadam offers an array of authentic south Indian delicacies cooked to perfection. We ordered-
โœ“Mysore Chicken Sukka- Prepared with curry leaves, tomato, ghee and other essential spices, this dry chicken dish from Mangalore served as a great starter. The chicken was soft and the gravy, slightly spicy, just how it should be.
โœ“Appam- Try this fermented rice and coconut milk pancake as a staple instead of paratha/rice and, trust me, you won't regret it.
โœ“Kerala Ghee Mutton Roast- Another delicacy from the coastal town of Mangalore, this dish stood out for its eclectic flavours. The mutton was succulent and we devoured it within minutes.
โœ“Tender Coconut Pudding- This is probably the best dessert I have had in a while. The consistency is just perfect, not too watery and not too thick. You must experience the unique taste of this desert when you visit this place.
The only reason of my deducting a star is that a few of the items on their menu were not available. I wish Zomato hadn't done away with the previous marking system; then Pappadam would have definitely gotten 4.5 from my side.

Pappadam is a delight for people who like coastal food. Since we are complete coastal food lovers, we loved this little place. We decided on this place by chance while scrolling through Zomato to find a place to eat at an off-hour. And man oh man, do we feel lucky! We had a Mysore Chicken Sukka to start with. Then we had Coconut Rice with Pomfret Goan Curry and Prawn Ambotik. All the dishes were so good that we ordered a Chicken Ghee Roast though we already had more than enough. All the dishes were well balanced, with just the right amount of spice, heat, sweet n sour. Sorry that we couldn't click pictures of the full dishes as we were so very hungry and we had to jump right in, but I did click some close ups of individual servings to at least give you an idea.

The staff was very polite too and we were impressed to see that the waiter could explain the dishes to us well. The decor is bright n lovely with a beautifully painted wall.

Only 2 cons, they didn't have any of the desserts from the Goan menu, which we really wanted to try. But they gave us a complimentary Phirni, which again was quite good and we ended up ordering one more. The other, we felt that the quantity of the rice and also of coconut in the coconut rice could be a little more.

Nevertheless, we were happy with the food which made us over eat. As coastal food lovers, this place got us dreaming of going n settling in Goa, but until then we are happy that there's a Pappadam in Kolkata!

Gave this place a visit earlier this week after hearing rave reviews from fellow food enthusiasts who know their food well. I must declare that after having tried coastal food at some of the most celebrated eateries in Bombay, Mangalore and Goa, Pappadam seems to have emerged as the winner for me. We called for the Crab Masala Curry, Kerala-style Mutton Stew, Chicken Chettinad, Butter Garlic Prawns and Black Pepper Squids, paired with Appams. All the dishes were very well balanced. Moreover, not overly spiced, which seemed to have worked well with the flavours of the coconut oil and ghee. In fact, even the buttermilk deserves a special mention. I'm going to be a regular visitor and would love to try out other things that I haven't tried yet. In my opinion, a very promising eatery that manages to make its way into my list of the best restaurants in town. I'd have given it a 5/5, had the proprietor been better behaved over the phone and not abruptly hung up on me for inquiring about something that has been discontinued but not taken off the menu. You've got to be at your hospitality best, sir. Bon Appรฉtit.

Visited this place for a sunday lunch. Was waiting to try out The Coastal Matcha for long...now it has shifted to Hindustan Park from southern avenue.Decided to try this place first as it's a little more affordable and also situated in southern avenue which is more convenient for me !
Ordered for Squid pepper fry and Bhetki koliwada as starters.
This was my first time trying squid...was very sceptical about the chewy squid texture...But was not chewy at all...Loved it totally !
The Bheki Koliwada...the quality of fish was good but didn't like the sour koliwada masala...won't recommend.
For mains, ordered appam, lemon rice and mutton ghee roast.
Again, first time trying appam...it has become my favourite south-indian thing after idli.
The mutton ghee roast smelt of ghee all the way through...came with 4 decent pieces...soft and juicy mutton...very rarely have I tasted such good mutton and I am not a mutton-lover...So you can tell it was really that good !
The lemon rice was what it's supposed to be...with bits of udad dal(which I personally didn't like munching on!)
Bill amounted to Rs.1040 which is good value for money for 4 items and enough for 2 people.
P.S. Sorry...didn't click any pictures...was too excited to try the food and totally forgot about everything else!
1 complaint though : The table we sat upon was not cleaned after the previous guests left...! And we had point it out to the waiters. Also would like to suggest to put table mats on as the cutlery was directly on the table and didn't look that hygienic.

This has been an amazing experience!!! Tried the much-recommended Mutton Ishtew with Appam and wasnโ€™t one bit disappointed. Mutton pieces were nice and small, and there were quite a LOT of pieces. Appam was being served fresh off the stove.

Other dishes ordered:
Buttermilk (yummm)
Squid
Chicken Sukka
Chicken Chettinad
Lemon Rice

What a wonderful blend of spices! Proportions were just right. Ambience added to the experience. The perfect coastal escapade. Look forward to dropping in more often :)

Thanks guys!

One minute of silence for those who thinks South Indian cuisine is all about Idli-Dosa-Sambar. For a long time I desired to taste coastal cuisine and at last I did it and genuinely I felt that this cuisine of India is literally underestimated. We do hype around North Indian cuisine, but South India has a lot to offer in our food culture. I must say I'm just in love with these food. We had- โ€ข Mutton Mangalorean Ghee Roast โ€ข Chicken Chettinad โ€ข Malabar Paratha โ€ข Appam Each and every item has its own amazing flavour. The curry leaves and mustard combination with meat is just my new favorite. Love to check out their other items. โค

Pappadam is famous for its coastal dishes. This place is located at mudiali, few minutes away from mudiali club. Ambience of this place is very nice and well decorated with bright lights and paintings related to South India. Last week I visited this place to try some lipsmacking keralian foods which they are serving for the Kerlian food festival. This festival will last till 15th March. I tried, Squid masala fry- it was not so spicy yet very tasty and light. Prices are reasonable.

I had given my birthday treat here The highlight of the place is the biriyani. We have orderd - 1. 8 piece spicy kabab (I have forgotten the name ๐Ÿ˜…). The kabab was undoubtedly tasty and there are varrieties of kababs a cording to your taste. 2.classical kolkata chicken biriyani bucket with egg salan (3 - 4 servings) ,the quantity was good but chicken pieces are only 3 (you can ask for 1 extra piece ) About the egg salan , me and my friends particularly didn't like it 3. Firni - tasted good To wrap it up, the ambience of the place as well as the service is peaceful and good . If you want to enjoy biriyani at a reasonable price with your gang do visit .

2. Chicken Chettinad: This dish has came from the ritch community of Chettinad. The gravy and the spices have an amazing flavor and taste of south Indian spices. 3. Lemon Rice: It is the typical Lemon rice that all we know but the zira on it makes it unique and a perfect partner of chicken Chettinad.

If you want to indulge in some coastal flavours in Kolkata, please pay a visit to Pappadum.I went there numerous times and they have won the game everytime. I would recommend their chettinad, malobar curries- both veg and non veg, rice preparations and panner sufiyana tikka masala. They serve some great biryanis too.One brownie point about them would be that they cook everything from scratch. Please give their buttermilk a try.
