A really great place to taste blissful South Indian flavours, decently priced, excellent service, a really nice ambience, perfect for having a filling yet healthy meal.
Oh this should be in your must try list if you love South Indian food in Kolkata. Crispy fried idli is perfect for starters. We've tried utthapm platers and chessy butter onions masala dosa. Just too good. Overall excellent 👌
The taste of Paper cheez dosa was very good. I personally not like their thali as not much variation of item and taste. But any kind of dosa you can choose.
Located at Globsyn Crystal. This is a hidden gem for South Indian food. Went with a group of friends during peak lunch hour and we were not disappointed. We ordered South Indian meals among other regular dosa and ldly. And the food was delicious .
Had a plate of Idli and Sada Vada. It was very tasty and the ambiance was really good too. The service was really quick too. Enjoyed my experience at Banana Leaf here.
A hidden gem of Kolkata, packed with a very elaborate menu from South Indian cuisine. It is situated inside the Globsyn Crystals Pavilion. The decoration was minimal and staff was very courteous, especially the manager/owner was very kind. The hygiene was very good and the food was reasonably priced. It was tasty too. I will want to visit again definitely.
A great place for vegetarians and South Indian cuisine lover. Variety of dosa, uttapam, idli you will get here. And a dessert item they served is just awesome.
Went to this place today with the team of mine. Entered the room with lot of expectations, all of which were fulfilled. We had ordered dosas of different types, each one was awesome in taste. The sambar and chutneys were the best I've ever tasted. And the hospitality and the greetings we received from Mr. Ritwik Singh is worth mentioning. We will be visiting again and again to taste other items.
Amazing food with superb hospitality. We went for office lunch and it was one of the best experience we ever had. Authentic traditional south indian food. We were hosted by Ritwik Singh, the guy with ever smiling face and superb hospitality. We decided to go back there every month. Just wow!
As a tamil student staying far away from home, this is the closes I can get to South Indian meals. They have the best . The price is also affordable and the service is quick enough.
They do serve Chinese items in the menu. But I think being an authentic South Indian restaurant it’s safer to order South Indian dishes. Their toffee items are also equally good.
Specially appam with kurma and kulipaniyaram was very authentic.
Nothing noticeable about the ambience.
Go there to have good South Indian meals.. you will not be disappointed.
Loved the molgapodi idlis. The alu masala is also splendid and the quantity is too good. I've been ordering quite frequently from here and the packing is also done well.
The staff here is very polite. I personally find this the best south Indian restaurant in the city. We ordered the butter masala dosa and the cheese onion dosa. Both of them tasted good. The cheese dosa had a generous amount of cheese inside it and the butter dosa was light, crisp and I could taste the butter.
A wild card entry was their fresh lime soda. It's was surprisingly well made and was very refreshing.
Honestly, if there's anything in this world i love - it's got to be South Indian food. I'm obsessed with it. It was a few months ago when roaming around Sector 5 that i discovered this amazing place - really hit the jackpot with this one! Since then i've been here almost 6-7 times and it hasn't let me down (yet).
Would recommend:
-Paper Dosa
-Idli
-Cheese Paper Dosa
-Masala Dosa
-Rava Kesari
-FILTER COFFEE!
& the entire menu...
It's a simple place with no bull. If i could i would eat here everyday - no kidding!
Delicious south indian food 👍🏻😃. Would recommend all to visit this place if u guys love south indian food. Enjoy with your friends and family a lovely meal in Banana Leaf restaurant.
It is a nice place to pamper yourself with south indian food.. Food is nice and quantity they give is generally more than expected..They serve Unlimited South Indian meal also which i feel comes cheap.
Love south indian food ? Hit Banana leaf ! Dosa , uttapam , idli , vada , meals , flavoured rice etc.. You get to choose from 55 varieties of dosa . I tried the Mysore butter masala dosa which was really really good. Also they serve south Indian meals . The price is almost reasonable if I have to say.
Hands down one of the best south Indian restaurants in Kolkata. My friend and I after spending almost three years in south India (Bangalore and Chennai) appreciate and crave for authentic south Indian food which is difficult to find in this city.
We ordered idlis, Cheese onion tomato uttapam and cheese masala dosa , ending our meals with filter coffee.
The idlis are priced slightly on the higher side. 70rs for an idli and 140 for a plate. Comparatively, dosa and uttapam are reasonably priced. This is our go to restaurant for south Indian food and would love to visit again and again.
One of the best south Indian restaurant. I took thali twice and dosa many times and it reminds me my 5 years staying in Chennai. Taste like real south Indian food not like bong or north Indian version.
Price is very reasonable and more than value for money.
One suggestion, you can play some Karnataki music for more authentic ambiance.
Must go if you like south Indian food.
Had cravings to eat vegetarian food since long, as we don’t get or rather don’t want to eat vegetarian food outside 😀. As it was Sawan maas (Sawan Month) so it was the best opportunity we opted to go to this place which is located on 1st Floor of Globsyn Crystal Tower in Salt Lake Sector V. This tower has many eateries inside it on the GF apart from Banana Leaf. So one can opt from so many options under one roof.
Now coming to the food :
We went for the Lunch so we pre planned to have their South Indian Meal (Thali) which is unlimited with many things to relish with Rice, Puri and Papad.
I liked all of them very much and the staff who was serving us was generous enough to bring fill in immediately on our call.
Rava Kesari - Rava Halwa (Sweet Dish) was awesome and I took it thrice 😋😋.
Sambar and Rasam - was also very good.
Onion Sour Lentil preparation- I don’t remember its name, but I liked it the most with steamed Rice as well as Hot Puris.
Raita with Onion - was superb.
Chaach - Butter milk was was so so.
Overall it was a good experience. Must visit once.
Parking : is available on paid basis outside Globsyn Tower.
Entered the place at last moment however the staff was pretty friendly to welcome us. Neat and clean place however ambiance should be improved. Food quality is very good and pocket friendly. Overall a good and nice place to have South Indian food.
I have been there for 6-7 times, initially I used to have uttapam, but later I started having their special thali. Thali is amazing, they serve around 8 smalls bowls of different sabjis, raita, pickle and sweet. Sweet is kind of orange colour halwa which I love so much. They will give loochi and papad also. Later you can ask for rice when you get done with Loochi. You can ask for refill.
Service is not that bad and the staff is very courteous.
I found that this place is in need of more waiters, as if the place is crowded then the service lacks. In thali, raita is not there, water they forget to bring, spoon is not there.
5 stars for food and staff's courtesy!
While leaving they will say "Come again" for sure ;-)
Decent and not original or noway related to in komala vilas. But food seems to be good for South Indian meals and tiffin items. Chef is from madurai and jovial
The restaurant is located in first floor of Globsyn building in Sector 5.
It is a pure south Indian restaurant.
We went for lunch and ordered mini idlys a south indian thali and a Mysore dosa..
The mini idlys were jus yummy and very nicely dip in sambar.
The idlys were soft and prepeared well..
The thali had all the varieties of southindian sabji and rasam with a delicacy sweet..
Mysore dosa was a bit soggy could have been more crisp.
All in all it's very pocket friendly and a decent place for south indian lovers
Had a quick and light lunch at Banana Leaf in Sector 5. Service is quick & efficient, restaurant is pretty bare. Not much of ambience but the AC works fine. Dosas are nice and crisp, I wish the Buttermilk was chilled, no ice on offer.
Had masala dhosa and sambar bada there.
both were very good in taste.
and you will be greeted by a smile from the owner/manager. Nice Gesture.
It was quite good to be here. I had first visited the Southern Avenue outlet. And felt that this was also equally good. The items are really tasty. Decoration is simple and decent. Service is prompt and courteous.
Located at Globsyn Sector 5. We go to this place for South India Meals. Not too many options for South Indian at Sector 5. The food here is good. I like the South Indian Meals here, which is unlimited. The rava dosa is also crisp and nice.
Was at the restaurant with few of my friends for lunch. The place was packed. The food was excellent but the service was a little slow. Will definately try again
We ordered onion uttapam , upma and filter coffee . The amount of food was generous and was freshly made.Filter coffee could have been a tad bit strong ,but the food in general was yummy and reminded me of Andhra days . Overall a must visit in Kolkata if u miss South Indian food.
Guys, If you love authentic South Indian cuisine then don't waste your time ,go straight to the saltlake sector 5 area and have food in this restaurant..
Tasty and adequate amount of food, good atmosphere, courteous staffs and manager, and value for money indeed. We ordered South Indian Thali and Butter Rava Masala Dosa. Both were awesome..
Good place to hv a south Indian feast located in globsyn building...tried der thali n Mysore masala dosa...d thali won my ❤️ as it was very tasty...d rasam specially...dosa ws okeish..
SUPERB!!Went there for Lunch on a Sunday...ordered the South indian Thali ,idli, vada and filter coffee. The ambiance is average, but quality of food and value for money is full marks!!Sevice needs a bit improvement. The idlis were one of the tastiest ,softest ,fluffiest piping hot ,ive ever had--SIMPLY OUTSTANDING!I Hope they can keep up the consistency!!Will surely Recommend this to all my foodie friends incase youre in a mood for south indian..pls do visit this place !!
This outlet of banana leaf is loacted inside globsyn crystal , sector 5.We tried UTTAPPAM PLATTER , as assortment of five types of uttappam with different ingredients and toppings , PAPER MASALA DOSA and ONION RAVA DOSA . The food was healthy and tastewise okayish , nothing much to write about . FILTER COFFEE was too strong to our liking , hence couldn't consume entirely. Honestly i have had better and tastier south Indian food at cheaper prices elsewhere which leads to the rating.
Its a very simply decorated space, which serves authentic south-Indian food.. I wouldn't say the service is warm, but it's efficient.
We tried their mini idlis, mysore dosa, tomato and onion uttapam. The food is as authentic as it can be. If you want non-northernised south Indian food, this is the place. I absolutely loved the food and its simple ambiance was really working for the place.
Highly recommended
Went to banana leaf sector 5 during durga puja,it was quite empty that day because offices were mostly closed. Prompt order taking and delivery. Food was very good. I loved their sambar and coffee most.but everything was very good, reasonable too.
Love this place. Simply pure south Indian food. With lip smacking flavours. Idly too good. Dosa really crisp. Must try at least once. Vadas too delicious. Lemon rice, aplam, meals all too good
The Banana Leaf is a typical South Indian Restaurant and any person from the southern part of India would feel at home here! Ordered a South Indian Thali which had all the requisite items for a complete meal! The sambhar , and the sweet were very good ! The staff are polite and serve you with a smile ! The ambience and the decor of the place is also pretty good !
Overall a decent restaurant offering good south Indian food at an affordable price !
I simply love the simple food of the simple place. Apart from a lil language problem, this place is decent enough. Thali is awesome. Halwa is super heavenly tasty. I am a fan of each n every kind of dosa.

Their dhania cheese onion masala dosa is still now lingering in my dreams even after 10 days I had it , took these days to take me out of the awesome feeling it gave my tastebuds .
And equally their paneer onion butter masala dosa , for all my south Indian friends out there and all those friends who love south Indian ; and also for all who do not love south Indian cuisine but love going veggie , this place is gonna make you fall in love with south Indian .
Wonderful location , inside globsyn crystals building ; for those who do not know , once you go there search out for the 6 Ballygunge Place outlet , these people are located just above that .
Just loved their food , would certainly visit them again , and would love to try out their other dishes . For and extra , they make even awesome idlis .
Amazing South Indian food I loved it alooooooot and will order more people should visit or order .. it's amazing if you love South Indian food then this is the one you must try
One of the best south Indian restaurants in Kolkata! Large accommodation, serves food in authentic banana leaves that give it a typical 'South Indian feel'. We had ordered cheese masala rava dosa, idli sambar, and a South Indian meal. Everything was absolutely delicious barring the cheese masala rava dosa which was too cheesy!
Service was pretty quick, reasonably priced and a must visit for South Indian cuisine lovers!
we ordered uttapam and curd bada recently in office place, food quality is very good and tasty , quantity was good, few item was also packed using banana leaf
Went few months ago with siblings. We order varities of South indian dishes. They have authentic south indian tastes.....
Service is good nd staff are humble too.......
Located inside the campus of Globsyn Crystal building at saltlake sector V. It is an orthodox south indian restaurant. Ambience was good. I have ordered masala dhosa. Thy served it in time. The taste was good. The staffs were courteous. I would suggest this place to everybody who seeks good south indian food under normal budget.
No frills restaurant serving genuine south Indian recipes. The menu is quiet Pocket friendly. A place to visit to satiate your craving for South Indian food.
Whenevr I crave for dosa..I just run 2 banana leaf.. It is one of my fave place 2 eat.. I usually order butter onion masala rava dosa...it z yummm.. Mini idly is also a must try..
Situated inside the Globsyn building in Sector-V, this simple restaurant serves some decent South Indian fare. The paper dosa I tried was nice, crisp and quite large. Next come the Dahi Vada. Although the portion was generous, I must say that I have had better Dahi Vadas elsewhere. When we think South Indian food in Kolkata, we think of cheap food. But here it is not so. Considering the quality on offer. the menu is a bit overpriced in my opinion.
I am not a lover of vegetarian food but once thought of changing taste so came to this place. This is a big outlet but there are not many staffs. We ordered cheese dosa, cheese onion dosa, puri masala. Cheese dosa was a delectable experience. I would definitely suggest their special sweet which is basically suji halwa with a twist. Their service is very slow. So think of visiting this one when you have enough time.
Went in for a solid yet light South Indian lunch on a hot and humid day,and I must say that the food didn't disappoint.Although the place was empty when we went there for lunch, the service was quick and effective. We ordered Masala Dosa and Sada Paper Dosa and it was one of the rarest moments when I enjoyed having South Indian food as the food was really well cooked. The dosas tasted authentic. The only con was that there were a couple of flies in the place.Price was okay and this place could be handy when it'll come to quick, light and pocket friendly bites.
It was 1999 when I visited Gangotri for the first time. The area had very limited options despite having a girls'hostel and multiple paying guest accommodations in the vicinity. Gangotri was one of the better choices. Cut to 2023 and I'm back in my favourite city. As I try to recreate memories by visiting places from the past, I end up savoring a masala dosa here. It still tastes amazing though the place has undergone massive change in terms of looks and seating arrangements. It's got an indoor and outdoor seating arrangement. The dosa was crisp, fresh, and tasted delicious. Service was prompt. Staff were polite and courteous.
So, it was Friday and we (me and my colleagues) had this awesome Chola Bhatura.
The food was fresh and tasty.
Must recommend. Thanks. ❤️✨
Best south Indian food in Kolkata. It tastes delicious and forgot to click photos, will surely click next time and upload it here. Became such a frequent visitor, that even the owner knows my all time favourite dish- fried idly. Absolutely lovable place and good service.
Surely recommended outlet for foodies around the city, especially south Indian food lovers.
Quite a pocket friendly with really delicious dosas. We tried a masala dosa and dhaniya dosa, both were superb and good portions. Staff is nice, so is the seating area. Also situated in a good location
An excellent place for hang out with family and friends. The food is extremely delicious and they maintain hygiene too. The staff members are very cooperative. I have been visiting this place for last many years.
A good place to have your lunch and evening snacks at a very reasonable price. Believe me, it won't pinch your pocket.
Wish all the best to the Gangotri Team.
One of the best South Indian breakfast I've ever tasted. Taste of sambar chutney is unique and delicious. If you want to try original South Indian breakfast this is the one.
It took 15 minutes to serve the dishes which was little delayed in my opinion. But after I took the first bite of the food, it felt like waiting time was worth it. The food here is costly.
I am a Gangotri fan since last 20 years. They changed in decoration but the food remained the same in taste. Same team is serving for this period, knowing the choice of each customer. So their service is good. But, in my rating their foods are awesome.
Their Dosas are one of the Best in whole Saltlake... They are Crisp and Have Delicious Coconut Chutney and a Green Chutney. The space is small though but The Food Tastes Good here... Worth It place... Must Visit if you want to have Dosa and also searching for Pure Veg Options.👍💯

This one is all about sheer #nostalgia - dropping in at Gangotri-A Veg Hub-Official was all about going back to my high school days when this space along with the swimming pool area in Saltlake used to be our regular hang out joint for delicious food at pocket friendly prices 😍
Went back after a decade and found the whole look and feel has changed into a more premium outlet although the food remains equally delicious till date thankfully at this #legendary outlet in #Saltlake since 1994💯
Tried loads of my favourite delicacies like old times:
Mojito Crush
Kulhad Chai
Podi Idly
Cold Coffee
Chole Bhature
Mix Chaat
Club Kachori
Kurkure Dosa
Gangotri Special Pav Bhaji
Mixed Cheese Pizza
White Cheese Pasta
Grilled Sandwich
Cheese Burger
Lachha Parantha Thali
Gangotri Special Thali
Kesar ki Jalebi
They are open for #breakfast to #dinner everyday 😍
It was fun having you around with me Arindam Sarkar for this assignment - thank you for dropping in bhai 🤝
Thank you Anupam Mohta da - you know why 🙏
Thank you Arun Koomar Daga for your gracious hospitality 🙏
#MUSTVISIT (if you haven’t already) ❤️
Strongly recommended by Kolkata Food Trotters 💯
This place can’t be replaced! It has a childhood memory attached to it for me.
I was addicted to their Masala Dosa! Still the best place for a good vegetarian meal if you ask me.
A moderate size cafe serving delicious Indian food. We ordered the masala Dosa, priced at 110, with Sweet Lassi. Dosa was good and substantial that is served with coconut chutney, sambar and mashed coriander.
I really liked the taste of Lassi, priced at 65. The texture of the lassi is quite smooth. The taste is balanced. I think this has to be the best lassi I had in recent times. Now, looking to try their other dishes as well.
It's good for 4 people. Location is convenient.
Note: GST is being levied.
Loved the Chole Bhatura and Aloo Paratha from here. Absolutely pocket friendly, great quality and tasteful food.
Small outlet, but delicious food, nice staff behaviour !
I think they can improve cleanliness of common toilet and handwashing area.
Best kachori sabzi according to me. The kachori is light and flaky. The sabzi is well balanced in flavours. Awesome. 😍
Small but good place, you get exactly what you expect them to be..simple ,tasty menu of small items, very nominal price but the place is a bit small and don't expect a fancy ambience..but they are worth the money..
