I am a psychologist. On the first day of my undergrad class I was taught- sensation is the most elementary of all cognitive processes. Any sensory experience that involves the simultaneous arousal of sight, touch, sound, smell and taste leaves a long term mark on the brain. This evening at Manzilat I found this facet of psychology in action. The food here smells beautiful, looks amazing, tastes great, the warm and comforting voice of the hostess (chef and owner) is a treat to the ears and unlike other restaurants serving Awadhi cuisine the food does not leave the hands uncomfortably coated with grease. A quintesential Bangali like me needs three things to be satisfied with a restaurant 1.The pocket pinch (khorcha). 2.The taste (swadh). 3.The service (athitiyota). Manzilat gets 5/5 on all these markers in the checklist. Manzilat translates to place in Urdu. I would add soulful to the meaning. (Onek deen por kothao kheye bhalo laglo)

This review was long overdue as my family and I had feasted on Manzilat's Biryani and Galawti Kabab a week ago. To me, some of the things that made this food stand apart are - Biryani - the lightest biryani I have ever eaten with absolutely no overpowering smell of kewra or ittar and no uneasiness even after eating one entire box of it. The flavor was just perfect and the most commendable part was the mutton which was cooked to ultimate perfection! Galawti Kababs - The galawtis really melted in our mouths! Can't deny. It was the showstopper for me. I could possibly survive on them for a meal. I will do that next time Manzie di :) While my mom and maasi could not stop talking about the biryani for 2 whole days, I quietly left Kolkata planning what all to order from Manzie di on my next trip. Overall, I am a very satisfied customer and hope to cherish my friendship and the common love for food with Manzie di for years to come!

Well well well ... Finally managed to be here and satiate my awadhi appetite after a long time. This is a small but 'big in heart' eaterie located few hundred meters near the Ruby General Hospital, run by Mrs. Manzilat Fatima who is also the cook of most of the food you eat there, if not at least all the recipes are from her lucknowi lineage. She being the direct descendant of Nawaab Wazid Ali Shah, the food you eat there has maintained it's charm through century old recipe's. Do try the Galawati Kebabs, they will melt in your mouth and will melt your heart with happiness for sure. The biriyani she prepares tastes quite different from most of the biriyanis you have had in Kolkata. And make no mistake this is by far the closest you can taste biriyani at it's historic form when it entered Calcutta. To add to, Manzi's hospitality makes you feel at home instantly and the food becomes tastier when you chat about her. So why wait friends?! If you love biriyani filled with the aroma of awadhi royal cuisine reserve your place soon.

I highly recommend the haleem, with succulent chicken pieces and garnish as a starter in this month of Ramadan. Served by the attentive, gracious and welcoming hostess Manzilat Fatima, the haleem ranks high on my list of recommendations, proving once again that Manzilat's home dining menu is an excellent foray into the royal kitchens of Awadh and a true example of the dietary habits in the ganga jamuni belt.

It was like the fresh morning breeze! The whites in the decoration was soo beautiful!! The food was also superb. Though we visited last year but still now in the lockdown the quality is superb. Their Galauti kabab with Ulta Tawa Paratha is a combination just to die for!!

Food After effects were not at all acidic

Overall it's a must eat place!! Another reason for this is it's authenticity!! Begam Manzilat is herself the rightful heir of late Mughal Badsha Bahadur Shah Zafar!!

This is one of my favourite place for having some good and authentic Lucknowi food... And you guys are all aware of the reason why The authenticity here is still maintained... Since Manzilat Ji The Owner of this place herself belongs from the Royal Family of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah... So if you want to enjoy some awesome food... Pre order and enjoy the evening on her open terrace seating arrangements with beautiful views and ambient decor over a chit chat session with her if she was not that busy... Believe me she is a lovely host... Coming to the food... I love their Galouti Kebeb and Ulta Tawa Paratha and The Biryani too... Other dishes are simple outstanding but these are just top of the world... Pocket pinch here is very very reasonable... Quantity and quality is no doubt justify the price in all means...

When the descendant of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah brings her heritage and repertoire, you are bound to be spellbound.
But it often happens that things you crave for creates an extreme hype in your own mind and more often than not, the reality just falls flat. But this experience has truly been an aberration. I don't think it is humanly possible to create such an amount of hype that could marr the taste of Manzilat's delicately crafted food. I have never tasted a more delicately balanced biriyani with almost atrociously less amount of spices! The beef do pyaza is definitely one of the simplest dishes I have ever had the opportunity to try and it just spoke to me! All of the other dishes were also scrumptious but I am not going to talk about that. Mainly because I don't think I have enough vocabulary to actually make that an interesting read! Thank you so much for this brilliant experience. So I am just going to leave my order here, because I can't choose which one is better than the other. (I know! This really downgrades my quality as a reviewer, bu alas! I am helpless here!)

A terrace/rooftop restaurant, pretty and off beat ambience, tried beef galauti kebab, beef boti, ulto tawa paratha and one beef biryani. Each of the items were carefully prepared by Manzilat Fatima ma'am with no compromise on the quality and taste. We were also served complimentary ghash sherbet which was quite refreshing. The galauti kebab melted in our mouth and the quality was topnotch, even though the quantity was too less for the price. The beef boti and the paratha complimented each other quite well. The beef biryani (one plate) is enough for two! It had 5-6small pieces of beef, 2 small aloo (potato) and the rice was abundant in quality....tasty, delectable and heavenly! Complimentary burani is served along with biryanis. Would definitely recommend this place for her authentic, awadhi cuisine. Had a lovely experience!

Homely ambience with great Awadhi cuisine. Galactic kabab with ulta tawa paratha were melt in the mouth. Kolkata Shahi biryani was excellent with subtle flavours and tender mutton. Chicken qorma was also good. On the top, great hospitality and warmth by the begum herself made it a life time experience. A must visit place if you live non vegetarian Awadhi food.

Undoubtedly this is the best place in town for biryani lovers.
The dishes were so delicious that I couldn't wait for another hour to be back home but post about it .
We ordered,
1) Mutton Awadhi Galawti kabab (yumm.. Highly recommend.. Try the beef galwati as well)
2) Special kabab platter ( I wish I could have more of each of them... And the Pudine ki chatni was worth mentioning)
3) Special Kolkata shahi mutton biryani (honestly.. The best biryani I've had within the town. Try it.. And I promise you won't regret it)
4) Chicken begam ka Quorma (This Side dish definitely complemented the Biryani I had)
5) Chicken Boti kabab (well.. Obviously because couldn't have enough kababs for the day.)
6) Oh.. And how can I forget.. The complimentary welcome drink ... Roof Afza

The Ambiance is cozier than your own place. Decent lighting and breezy rooftop will surely enlighten your mood once you visit the place.

Make sure to avail the pre-booking facility and definitely experience this wonderful pocket friendly dining that Kolkata offers you. Foodlovers must try this out once in a while. I loved it and I'm sure you'll love the place as well. 😊🥰

Just perfect. Biryani is very different from the other biryanis. Its very light, has all the taste of the spices, yet so subtle. Kebabs are equally good and meat cant be any mire tender than this. The Thing I like most is Galwati kebab with ulte tawa ki parantha.

You want a place where you can sit, have a steaming plate of biryani and hear stories of it's evolution and of maharajas, maharanis, palaces, their rise and their fall and then finish the whole delicious time travel with a shaahi 'pakwan', then this is it!
Manzilat aunty herself caters to every whims of her guests starting from explaining every item on menu to serving them on very hot afternoons!
Mutton biryani, moong daal ka halwa, sheek kebab stir fry (forgot this name, but taste still lingers) and galauti kebab with paratha are some of the items I have tried till date. I am hoping to arrange for a group oof friend with a lavish spread for some more varieties on a evening, also moreover to experience the rooftop ambience!
A great place, with a great history, quality over quantity being the motto.
Do visit. I will, soon again!

If there can something sort of a gourmet supremacy, then this is it.

I can vouch my life and say the kebab that you will be having here is the best that you will ever have. The Biryani is royal here, not a hint of excess dalda, super light and all natural flavours.
The hostess Manzilat ji is the nicest person around, her hospitality is top notch. Just book a table beforehand when you go there.

Finally the day has arrived and we four friends went to Manzilat's for dinner. As usual we have ordered Mutton and chicken Biryani, chicken Nawabi chanp and for desert we have ordered kheer. I can guarantee you all that once you have Manzilat's biryani you all will stop going to Arsalan, Oudh etc etc. For me the best Biryani in town and chicken chanp and the desert were also amazing. Mam 5* for you and your effort. Definitely will visit your place again.

Visiting Manzilat's was one of our long time wishlist. Suddenly we planned with our friends on a sunday evening and I booked our table one day before as there are limited sitting arrangements. It's in the rooftop on 3rd floor (Can be a problem for aged people). Its just behind ruby hospital. When we reached there we have started getting smell of the aroma of Mughlai food. The place is too cozy homely and very soberly decorated. There is only one small AC room which we didn't mentioned during booking so we have taken the terrace seats. The weather was very pleasant and we enjoyed sitting in the terrace arrangement. Owner Manzilat Ji herself preparing all the dishes with 2 other manpower for serving. She was extremely humble and we have requested her to suggest us the menu. There was a complimentary welcome drink. In starter we have taken Mutton Handi Kebab and Mutton Galawati kebab with ulta tawa paratha. Both the kebabs were soft , mouth watering and the parathas are extremely soft and almost oil free. Then they served the special biriyani which contains 2 pieces of mutton. They also served raita with the biriyani. We have ordered Mutton korma in side dish.Biriyani was superb tasty and the aroma was heavenly overall not at all heavy as it completely homemade. We have ordered Shahi tukra and Shahi halwa in desert. Both the dishes were neutrally sweet and made of pure ghee. Our overall experience was extremely pleasant and the place is not very costly too.We are impressed seeing Manjilat Ji working too hard alone to prepare all wonderful dishes and making her guests happy. I must reccomend this place to everybody to visit once for spending a memorable time.

This is a blue blooded biryani, wanted to try manzilat for the longest time.So yesterday finally got the opportunity to taste some amazing delicacies.
*Location- Anandpur housing complex, kasba.
*Ambiance- Great, roof top ambiance with a air conditioning room as well and Mrs.Fatima's hospitality will surely steal your heart.
*Service - Very fast and homely.
*Price- Reasonable.

*Mutton special biryani- The thing with this is it tastes very different from regular biryani and very light. There is no artificial smell, soft potatoes and melting mutton.Excellent.
*Chicken Rezala- Do try this, this is one of the best dish I have every had and I personally loved it.
* Halwa : Rava Kesari but it was little on the sweeter side.

Manzilat is a restaurant with a beautiful history attached to it, something which makes the place extremely attractive. It's a cosy little isolated space away from the city's eyes. Situated on the top floor of a normal building it is basically a house turned into restaurant. The chief chef Manzilat Fatima has a connection with Wajid Ali Shah and you can actually see her cooking and instructing other cooks. Since the place can accommodate a maximum of only 2 families at a time, one needs to have prior booking done. On the terrace you will find very ordinary setting of the table and plates with a huge standing fan in one corner. The aroma of the food from the nearby kitchen is mouthwatering.
Even though it is summer, we got lucky with the weather as it was not very hot. Upon our visit we were treated to a glass of cold khas sherbat (complimentary). The food starting from their mutton galauti kebab to chicken rezala, tawa paratha, mutton biryani were all very tasty, smelling of pure ghee but not at all heavy. We actually ended up having quite a lot of galouti kebabs as they were melting in mouth.
For dessert, we ordered sooji halwa which was again very tasty.
All in all a good place and also a must visit if you love authentic mughlai cuisines.

Well, a pocket friendly experience. The biriyani is quite good and love the authentic kolkata biriyani fragrance with its obvious potato. But at times, the mutton seems to be undercooked. Manjilats is owned and run by Manjilat Fatima, the great great granddaughter of nawab Wajid Ali shah, who innovated the famous recipe of #kolkatabiryani with aloo!
Located in the bylanes of Kasba, a terrace restaurant serves the best Awadhi cuisine that one can sample. The owner is a curator of royal heritage recipes and you can taste the same in the food that’s served.
The owner takes the order and cooks on her own and serves with humility and warmth. The mutton galawati absolutely melted In the mouth, chicken pasanda was absolutely balanced with spices and really succulent and went perfectly with the ulte tawe ka parantha. The hero sure was the biryani and offcourse the aloo cooked in the juices and spices of the meat soaking in the flavours. I am not a fan of aloo in biryani but this even I couldn’t resist.
If you are in #kolkata I would urge you to go to places like these, which really boast of the culture and heritage of our cuisines.

Awadhi cuisine is a heritage of this city from the Raj era.Several restaurants claim to prepare it according to their capability but here the direct descendant of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah and Begum Hazrat Mahal is running a restaurant to offer authentic Awadhi cuisine like no other.Manzilat Fatima is the great great granddaughter of Nawab and Begum.She runs this home dining terrace restaurant and she herself is the chef.If you are not excited even now then hear it from me,the food is awe inspiring! From Kababs to biryani to side dishes to dessert,the food has a distinct taste and texture.Apart from Fatimaji there is only one staff for serving and cleaning.But you can hardly feel the delay.The entire area is tidy with minimalist decor.There is an AC room but you will love to sit at the terrace,digging into a plate of biryani in the evening breeze.There is a warm and easy vibe.All these come at an affordable rate.When she bids you adieu with a broad smile on her face you will feel the urge to return soon.Manzilat’s is a treasure trove,come...explore...

Quite excited to know the concept, we (four of us) approached this place; of course, the menu was decided and pre-ordered 3-4 days in advance. Despite receiving a confirmation, we were taken aback not to get the fish kebab. Aside that, everything else was pretty much in sync and so very Awadhi in flavour, texture and taste. Madam was always checking on things and ensuring that there was no inconvenience.

The owner of this wonderful restaurant has been doing a great work in serving Kolkata with the food directly from the legendary nawab kitchen and her quality of food describes it.

Now coming to the food we ate,
1 chicken Biryani (enough for two)
Beef Galawati kabab
(Because of the scorching heat,we decided to keep the meal a light one)

We ordered burhani and a welcome drink was offered to us as a complimentary item!

Now obviously if you have read till here,you must be thinking that whether I liked the food or not...so here you go!

Chicken Biryani - 8/10
Beef Galawati kabab - 9.5/10 (the most tender beef I have eaten till date)
Welcome drink - 9.8/10 (I really want to know,what's that 😂)
Burhani - 8/10
Service/hospitality - 10/10!

If you don't visit the place, you won't know it.
I would definitely urge people to visit this place because this is more than just a restaurant serving food!
You'll feel like home!

Today I had the good fortune to dine at Manzilat's where Madam Manzilat Fatima (great great granddaughter of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah and Begum Hazrat Mahal) herself cooks each and every dish single-handedly and takes great pleasure in hosting and feeding her guests.
Starting from the terrace seating, to the welcome khus sharbat, to the radio music, everything packs a punch.
The biriyani is nothing like I have ever tasted before and let me just add here that I have had biriyani from way too many places in India and abroad.
Galauti kababs, ulte tawa ke paranthe, mutton chaap, chicken rezala, shahi halwa... everything was splendidly delicious.
Manzilat Madam's cooking is way too good to be described in words.
Kindly visit this mini Oudh if you want to experience a little slice of heaven.
Also, if one has time, Manzilat Madam loves interacting with her guests and shares anecdotes on a variety of interesting topics.

P.S. - I had plans of food photography but one bite of that kabab and all of us forgot our phones.

Ordered Chicken biryani, mutton pasinda, ulta tawa paratha, chicken chatpata kebab, nawabi chicken chaamp,chicken shami kebab and shahi halwa via Zomato. First of all compliments to Zomato as I had wrongly ordered on my office address. But they were gracious enough to deliver to my home address after I promptly informed them over chat and phone. The Biryani was excellent , tasty and extremely light with subtle spices. . Shami kebab seemed a little undercooked for my taste. Other Kebabs especially mutton pasinda were wonderful. The chicken champ was light, unique and delectable with almond slices and foxnuts(makhna). Shahi halwa was brilliant. Overall a different and nice experience.

If you are looking for Authentic Awadhi food in Kolkata, then Manzilat is the place. It is run by direct decedent of Nabob Wajed Ali Shah. You can get original Awadhi Biriyani , giloti kabab here. If you thought that only non-vegetarian items are available, then you are wrong. You can get Kathal ka Biriyani, sharkhand ka kheer, mooli kabab and other assorted Avadi dishes in their vegetarian Avatar.

One whets up the appetite walking up to the 3rd floor (or was it the 4th?) Rooftop....and the welcome drink after the climb is indeed welcome.
The food was good, fresh, non-greasy and light.... My actual rating would be 4.5.... The taste of the kebabs (Galawti & Chatpata), Rezala and Halwa were just great.
Half-a-star deducted for the quantity, which could have been just a shade more, especially the size of cuts of various meats. In fact, the Rezala we ordered had 1 standard size piece accompanied by a small half-piece, though the menu describes the dish coming with 2 pieces. The chatpata kebebs had 7-8 bite sized morsels, lost among too many bits of onions.
It's a place one must definitely give a try sometime soon.
I, personally, shall definitely be visiting this place again.

I ordered mutton galauti kebab and mutton Biryani from here.Both the items were fresh and the taste was excellent.It really tasted like home made kebabs.Though this restaurant is not famous but I hope they will surely be in the top Mughlai restaurants soon if they can maintain their standard.All the best.

The entire idea about having food outside was changed at least for me since I visited this eating place. I honestly never knew about Manzilat Fatima before. More than a great cooking connoisseur, she absolutely happens to be a modest host. Guys you gotta check this place out. Searching for authentic awadhi delicacies? This is the place to be. Manzilat's sure made a non-biriyani lover like me fall in love with biriyani. Not to mention I tasted one of the best beef kebabs in here. The combination of ulta tawa paratha and galauti kebab was delectable. Manzilat's is the ultimate destination for foodies.

Manzilatis a place which is different from any other food joint in Calcutta. Not only because it is run by Manzilat Fatima who is great-great granddaughter of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah who was sent to Calcutta by Britishs back in 1850s, but for the home made nawabi khana!

Now before I jump into how good was our experience, I would like to add some informations for those are planning to visit at her place. First you need to book the tables atleast in the very morning, next in summer avoid lunch (though there is a shed over here, very recently installed). But at night ambience turns better. Or you can stick to food delivery if you're from Ruby Hospital are.

Coming to the food, we were offered green ruh afza as welcome drinks. We had some food before that, hence we were ordering very cautionly which was observed finely by her. Anyway galouti kebab is best we had that day, with ulta rooti. The biriyani here is quite bland I find but that's obvious as it's made at home. Kebabs are best things here.

I cudnt call this place a restaurant in its strictest of term...it was something more than tat... though the place is still in its infant stage.. however the biriyani here was better than many of the well known biriyani joints in town..The Galowti kebab(a must try item) melted like cream and the biriyani had that taste which my tongue ain't giving away too easily.. great food,great courteous men. 👌👌

The joy of Awadh at Manzilat's

You could take the Nawab out of Lucknow, but could you ever take Lucknow out of the Nawab? There is a little Awadh in our own City of Joy.

Where? The address reads Rubi Enterprise, Plot-1 Phase-3, Kasba Industrial Estate, Near Bank of Maharashtra, Anandapur, East Kolkata Township. It's just behind the Ruby hospital.

What's it about?
Back in May 1856, Wajid Ali Shah, the 10th Nawab of Oudh, came to what was then Calcutta with much disquiet in his heart. The British had confiscated his lands, his treasury , his comfort -indeed, they had even banished him from his beloved Lucknow. He set his own small empire in the outskirts of Kolkata - Metiabruz. The royal raqabdaars continued with goodness of the Awadhi food, the raqabdaars continued to cook, but the grandiose banquets were under immense financial strain, so they added potatoes and eggs to the royal repast -and thus was born the Kolkata biryani.

Carrying forward the Royal Family Food legacy of King Wajid Ali Shah, the Kalkatta Awadhi tradition, her greatgranddaughter, Begum Manzilat Fatima. The authetic aroma and flavours stands intact, Manzilat's - the brainchild of Mazilat Fatima, is a benchmark for the Awadhi cuisine.

What you cannot miss?
Manzilat Fatima's cooking displays her control in colour, sense of proportion and spicing so integral to Awadhi cooking.

You cannot miss the Beef Handi Kebab with the ground coriander and fennel standing out and the onion and capsicum blended so well with the kebab.

Then the outstanding Mutton Galawati with Ultey Tawa Paratha that just simply melts in your mouth makes you re-live the food at Chowk, Lucknow.

The drool worthy Mutton Biryani along with the Burhani, cooked with mustard oil but it's simply non-greasy and light.

The Halwa is however the numero uno, as it can make a person who doesn't prefer desserts to become a sweet tooth.

প্রথম লাইন পড়েই লোভ লেগে গেছে তো? আমার জিভেও জল এসে গেছিল প্রথম যখন এরকরম লোভনীয় সংবাদ পেয়েছিলাম। বহু প্রতীক্ষার পরে সস্ত্রীক হাজির হয়ে গেলাম এক শনিবার সন্ধ্যায়। রুবি হসপিটালের পাশের রাস্তা দিয়ে কসবা শিল্প তালুকের,চার তলার ছাদে। টুনি লাইট ও গাছপালায় সাজানো ছাদে গুনে গুনে গোটা বারো কি চোদ্দ জনের বসার জায়গা, এমনকি একদিন আগে অর্ডার করে না এলে অনেক কিছুই হাতছাড়া হবে। শাস্ত্রীয় সঙ্গীতের আবহে বসার সাথে সাথে অর্ডার নিতে এলো, লাইটজ্বলা বোর্ডে শতদ্রু নাম লেখা দেখিয়ে বললাম অর্ডার করা আছে, হেসে একটু পরেই এমনিই রুয়াফজা দিয়ে গেলো।

ততক্ষনে আমি ক্যামেরা নিয়ে হেঁসেলে ঢুকে পড়েছি, Manzilat's / Manzilat Fatima দেবী একার হাতে সব সামলাতে সামলাতে হাসি মুখে অভ্যর্থনা জানালেন। একজন সহকারী আছেন সব গুছিয়ে এগিয়ে দিচ্ছেন। ঘর জুড়ে প্রচুর খবর কাগজের কাটিং, ওনার ছবি, উপহার, সব থেকে যেটা চোখে পড়বে, বারান্দায় একটা সুন্দর রঙিন বেঞ্চি আছে ওখানে নবাবের সাথে ওনার ছবি, চোখের মধ্যে একটা অদ্ভুত দীপ্তির ঝলক এতবছরেও একই রকম।

আরেক দল পরিবার থাকায় খাবার আসতে একটু সময় নিলো।
আস্তে আস্তে হাজির হলো। এখানে চটজলদি পাওয়া যাবেনা আগে থেকে বলতে হবে এবং ধৈর্য ধরে রাখতে হবে। সব পদ রোজ তৈরি থাকেনা, আগে থেকে বললেই উনি বানান। যাই হোক খুব ক্ষিদে পেয়েছে খাবার এলো এক এক করে।

◆চটপটা চিকেন হান্ডি কাবাব, নামেই আছে চটপটা স্বাদেও ঠিক সেরকমই। পেঁয়াজ, টমেটো দিয়ে তৈরি কাবাবের পরিবেশন হলেও মুখে দিলেই বোঝা যায় কতটা মশলা সমৃদ্ধ। মুখে কিছুক্ষন পরে মিলিয়ে গেলেও স্বাদটা ঠিক রয়ে যাবে।

◆মাটন গালোউটি কাবাব সাথে ◆উল্টা পরোটা, খুব বিতর্কিত মন্তব্য কোলকাতার কোথায় সব থেকে বেশি ভালো গালোউটি পাওয়া যায়, এটা খুব ভালো একেবারে মুখে মিলিয়ে যাবে তবে আমি সেরা বলবো না। হালকা মশলার মিশ্রনে তৈরি পরোটার আলতো ছোঁয়ায় টুকুস করে মুখে পুরে দিয়ে উড়ে যান ওয়ুধ সাম্রাজ্যের যুগে। হয়তো এটার আগে বেশি মশলার কাবাব খাওয়ায় এটা কম ভালো লাগলো কিন্তু এটা হাতছাড়া করাটা নিজের রিস্ক হতো কারণ এক একটা দিন একটু অফ্ হতেও পারে, পরের বার খেয়ে অন্তিম পর্যালোচনা শোনাবো। ওহ একটা প্লেটে দুটোই টুকরো দেয় তাই আগেই দুটো করে অর্ডার দেবেন নয়তো পরে মারপিট লেগে যাবে।

◆মাটন বিরিয়ানী, মায়ের হাতের স্নেহ ভরা স্বাদ, এর বেশি কিছু বলতে পারছিনা। কারণ খেয়ে আমি এতই তৃপ্ত বাকি যাই বলি কম হবে। খাবার নিয়ে ঠিক যতটা শুনেছি অনেক কম শুনেছি তার ব্যাপ্তি বহুগুণে বেশি। ডালডার প্রলেপ নেই, নেই কোন মাত্রাতিরিক্ত গোলাপ জল বা আতরের গন্ধ। সাদা ও হলুদ চালের উপযুক্ত মিশ্রণ, নরম তুলতুলে মাংসের ও চিকেন রেজালা সহযোগে মুগ্ধতার মেলবন্ধন।

◆চিকেন রেজালা, একটা প্লেটে দুটো টুকরো দেবে, টলটলে মশলার ঝোল, আলতো করে চামচে নিয়ে বিরিয়ানীতে ছড়িয়ে তৃপ্তির চরম মুহূর্ত। মাংসের কোমল টুকরো টুক করেই এগিয়ে এসে খেতে আহ্বান জানাবে। দারুন খেতে, অন্যতম সেরা, কোনভাবেই না খেয়ে আসবেন না।

শেষ পাতে শাহি হালুয়ার জন্য পেতে জায়গা ছিল না, পরের বার ছাড়া যাবেনা বুঝতে পারলাম।
অবশেষে ওনার এই খাবারের স্টার্ট আপ, পরিবারের অনেকটা গল্প শুনে, ওনার ক্যামেরায় কিছু সেলফি তুলে, ওনার সদাহাস্য মুখের পরশ নিয়ে এবারের মতন বিদায় নিলাম,খুব শীঘ্রই এসব আবার।

Ok so Manzilat's is one of the few magics that can happen to you while you stay in kolkata. I went twice. Small rooftop arrangement. Begum Manzilat Fatima madam will cook the food all by herself and serve you. There is one more guy to help her out. She will sit with you and chat with you. Meanwhile you will very well realize you are having the best (yes I mean it) awadhi food in the city. Best galauti kebab in kolkata is served here only. Very minimal seating arrangement which helps people like me to dine at a place where you don't feel congested, suffocated and lost. Its warm and cozy and you will soon feel that this restaurant is not here to make money, the lady loves to cook and feed lip smacking food to people and wants to educate people about her cuisine. She will make you understand the difference between awadhi and mughlai.

Please book seats in advance 2 weeks to get slot.
Swiggy also delivers her food.

Recommendation: kebab platter, ulta tawa paratha, biriyani, kheer, kali gazar ka halwa( yummmm & it's not beetroot it's black carrot), suji halwa, chatapata mutton handi kebab, chicken parcha kebab

Hers is a story of lineage, heritage, passion and persuasion. Manzilat’s is a rooftop pop up restaurant and it is one of a kind. From cooking to catering she manages everything singlehandedly so very well. Both the food and the ambiance are very homey.

We ordered one chicken shami kebab and one mutton gulawti kebab – the fine texture just melts in mouth. There was a welcome drink for refreshment and a cup of burhani served between meals. The uniqueness about her biryani is that each grain of rice stands out. It is very light yet flavourful. Lastly, we ended it on a sweet note with the halwa.

It's an amazing culinary experience. The hostess and her food make it one of the unique places to have food in Kolkata. The kebabs... Beef and mutton ones are to die for. The ingredients make you feel you are having home food....
Avoid the biryani.. But always try the pasinda, kebabs... The dosti roti... And the halwa.

Heard of this place couple of months back. Ordered from Zomato today. The Mutton Biryani was subtly spiced and delicate in flavours and tasted great. Though I felt that both the rice and the mutton were a tad undone. Mutton was slightly hard. The galauti kebabs were delicious and so was the paranthas. Very soft. The chicken chaanp was not heavy and tasted good. Looking to order again.

The very name of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Oudh (or Awadh or Oude), conjures a world of Magic, at least for some of us. The Nawab is best known in the culinary circles of Calcutta for introduction of what we proudly call the Calcutta Biryani today. Neither were his culinary skills (taste is a skill) confined to the Biryani, nor were his contributions to India confined to the gastronomic delights that he introduced to the Indian Cuisine. Followers of Indian Classical Music would perhaps be aware that he was the Founder of ‘Thumri’, having even composed several Thumris himself. He also wrote plays and operas and even designed exquisite clothing. Had he been a King in Europe in his time, he would’ve been hailed as a Renaissance Polymath. Unfortunately, we are aware of the fate that befell him in British India and in my considered opinion, he hasn’t been given his due even today.

But, this review is about the delectable cuisine he created. When I heard Manzilat Fatima was a descendant of the Late Nawab of Oudh and had opened an outlet Manzilat’s, I was immediately interested. I carefully read reviews of her food by food bloggers and read her interviews in various publications. What emerged was how she was making an effort to carry on the traditions of her illustrious ancestors in the most authentic way.

Today, I decided to send for some items from her carefully curated menu and contacted her. She most politely asked me what I wanted and upon my request, even suggested an additional item. The courteous nature of the conversation was a reflection of the Adab and Qaida which characterises the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb that her illustrious ancestor created.

I placed an order for the following:

Mutton Majlisi Pasanda Kebab
Chicken Lazeez Shaami Kebab
Kalkatta Shahi Chicken Biryani
Chicken Nawabi Chaap

And

Mutton Galauti Kebab

*Disclaimer: I have been known to be equally effusive or brutal about my reviews, depending on how the food moves me.*

The Mutton Majlisi Pasanda Kebab was delicately prepared. The spices did not overpower the flavour of the tender meat. The Chicken Lazeez Shaami Kebab was excellent. For a change, one could distinctly taste the lentils in it.

You know a true Biryani when each grain of rice does not create a mish mash, but stands out. What compliments this texture is an equally delicate flavour in the tender meat, the rice and of course the potato which distinguishes it from any other Biryani. It was neither ‘spicy’ nor had the awful ‘colouring’ that is so rampant in most Calcutta Biryanis nowadays. Apart from a few private homes, I have not tasted a Biryani of this caliber. So full marks to the Kalkatta Shahi Chicken Biyani.

The Mutton Galauti Kebab however, did not live up to my expectations. Perhaps it should have been cooked a tad longer.

I have saved the best for last - the Chicken Nawabi Chaap. It is indeed fit for a Nawab. The Chicken was excellent, but the gravy was exquisite! The flavourful (yet surprisingly light) gravy revealed Makhana and Sliced Almonds which enhanced the flavour of the enchanting gravy. This was not just culinary art, followers of Awadhi cuisine will know, there is also a science to it. This Chaap was a revelation, and in my humble opinion, far surpasses any other Chaap in the city (Have I gone too far? Well, try it for yourself and then post your comments).

Overall, there are two specialities to Manzilat’s - their traditional recipes and the fact that the owner prepares everything herself (I’ve even read that she says ‘Bismillah’ before adding each layer to the Biryani). I think that adds to the magic touch. I wish Manzilat’s the very best in their future endeavours. I have heard they do not usually cater to more than a party of 25, and I hope they keep it that way.

In fine, I admire her courageous mission of keeping her family traditions and her Culinary Heritage alive. May God aid her in her Noble mission. For my readers I’ll just say this - if like me, you’re an Awadhi food enthusiast, you have got to try Manzilat’s. I passionately recommend it!

First of all awesome experience. Kabab was so awesome. Biriyani was also awesome. Even the environment was so homely. Manzilat mam was so humble so caring that she never made us feel we went for dinner at restaurant. The burhani was also good. To sum up it was a very great experience.

Ordered delivery through Zomato. Heard a lot from my brother about the place and the legacy the owner carries. The food was awesome. The galawati kabab and mutton pasinda were both great. The mutton biryani was light and flavorful. So it's easy on your stomach. Overall was very happy with the food.
But to compete with some of the other takeaways the packaging could be improved a bit. More so when an extra charge is levied for that which some of the other joints include in the total price.
But for the food this place is highly recommended

If you're a biryani lover, this place is for you. The restaurant is located at the roof of a building. The ambience is really great and so is the chef. You'll feel like your eating home made food. The food is great. You should totally try their awadhi biryani and mutton galouti kebab.

Manzilat’s warmth and her magic (cooking)will give you the ultimate pleasure of home dining with a pinch of royalty. The food here speaks for itself, its probably the benchmark of Awadhi food. Have heard so much about Manziedi's food but today had to try it. Just saw on Swiggy's radar and ordered immediately. As a 1st timer, ordered #EggBiryani #chickentikkabab #ShahiKheer. All the 3items were excellent. Boti Kabab was small chunks of chicken in gravy and the best Boti ever had. Actually, boti means smal small pieces. What we see as Boti Kabab as big chunk is not Boti. Would had been happy to get more Kheer. This is called real #RoyalAwadhiFood. Please visit @mannzie for the best royal Awadhi food in Kolkata. Manziedi is a direct descendant of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. Her food is less spicy, less odor of Kewra and very subtle. Much better than Arsalan and Royal. So please please visit her place and taste her food for best royal Awadhi in Kolkata and probably one of the best in India. The Best. Wont visit ITC or Taj or Oberoi for Mughlai after this.

Repeat visit
Today me and my friend Ronita decided to visit the famous food from the kitchens of the Nawab of Awadh Wajid Ali Shah's family in Kolkata. We visited Manzilat Fatima or Manzidi's famous terrace dining Manzilat's at her home behind Ruby Hospital. I have already tasted Manzidi's food earlier many times but this was first time for Ronita. For us, it was a time travel to 19th century Awadh which can be put as hereditary dining heritage of Nawab of Awadh's family. Manzidi is descended from Begum Hazrat Mahal and her son Birjis Qadr. And the polite refinement of Nawabi culture reflects in the food too. The level of spice and taste of the food was subtle, under rated and to the point. First we ordered #MuttonGalautiKabab, then we ordered #ChickenParchhaKabab followed by #AwadhiChickenBiryani and then #ChickenBotiKabab was mildly gravy based, ending with #ShahiHalwa. We gulped all these down with #Kalakhatta drink and Coke. After such a regal meal, you start thinking, can you have more for the rest of the day and the food's repeat value. Yes, this items are cooked in such a way that not only it is controlled polished in taste but also better than the commercial kitchens of #Arsalan or #Royal. Thw items were very light in fat content and not at all greasy.
Experience wise, I will say that Manzidi's dining experience can only be compared to The Bohri Kitchen of Mumbai. Both top of their game in their respective cities. I will highly recommend that my friends give this food a try as it is the best Awadhi Mughlai cuisine in Kolkata. Arsalan, Royal et al are nowhere when it comes to taste and flavor. I will keep repeating my visits now when ever I am in Kolkata.

It was my birthday and i was so eager to taste food from Manzilat's. So we ordered Galauti Kebab, Mutton pasanda kebab and mutton boti kebab as starter. Galauti was mouth melting and i will provide 5 out of 5 for this one. But for the first time i saw boti and pasanda kebab in a semi gravy. It tasted really good with tawa paratha and i think the gravy serves the purpose well. Main course was Shahi mutton biryani and chicken rezala. Both were super light. Rezala gravy was runny, chicken was good. Mutton pieces of biryani was very much succulent and the rice was of long grain and did not contained oil ghee or dalda, it was amazingly light and super healthy. But i will recommend galauti and paratha the most. Will try other items next time and provide review.

We tried Manzilat’s food at the Arth Cultural Quest. We tried her Galauti kebab , ulta tawa ka paratha and mutton biryani. The food was superb and tasted so good. The biryani had very less oil and the mutton was too soft

One of those places in town where you can get a home like hospitality along with food which you'll feel tastes out of the ordinary,this is a home dine-in which is owned as well as cooked by Manzilat Fatima,the descendant of the last Nawab of Awadh Wajid Ali Shah.But,to visit this place you must make a prior appointment preferably at least a day before for your visit.Now coming to the food we tried out various items such as Beef Korma,Beef Manzilsi Prasinda kabab along with some chicken items which other members of our gang tried out along with their Mutton and Chicken Biryani,especially the biryani which I could definitely say is something I hav'nt tried till now,absolutely feels with a secret awadhi biryani style touch which you may not get anywhere especially in expensive places like Oudh charging heftily for their biryani.Overall for the first time,it feels like a 5star review would also not suffice. Manzilat fatima mam is one charming lady and a superb host who makes sure everyone visit her humble abode leaves with memories to be cherished forever.The warmth she imbibes makes us feel as if we are one big family.Coming to the food the galauti kebabs with ulte tawa ka paratha is one hell of a combination and highly recommneded.For main course we ordered Chicken biryani,Mutton biryani (very light,less spicy,quite flavourful with soft succulent meat pieces ),mutton pasinda kebab ( this one was also good),beef korma and beef kebab (this was ordered by my friends and they loved it),chicken rezala and for dessert we had halwa which was way too good and highly recommended.Forgot to mention in the beginning that we were greeted with some lovely welcome drinks.Visited manzilat's twice and would like to keep visiting

I was really excited to try this place after reading up about it !
I ordered chicken biryani and chicken shammi kebab. The biryani was alright. It lacked a little flavour but the kebabs were really really good. I could smell the aroma as soon as I opened up the box.
They were super soft and very delicious!
I'd definitely visit this place only to try all their kebabs:)

Well really don't have words to describe the taste..
Manzilat ji .. you have great knowledge of spices.. after long time I had such a amazing food.
Have order biryani, galouti kebab, chicken boti, Ulta paratha, mutton pasanda... What a taste..
Biryani - rice was perfectly cooked and was well balanced with the flavors. Meat was juicy and just melt in mouth..
What a lovely biryani..
Galouti kebab - dam good quality of meat and one can make out the knowledge of spices that you have..
Ulta paratha - must try guys..
Mutton pasanda - again was too good
And yes the chai how can I forget that i m not found of chai but the one I had here is just cherry on cake.

After along time I had such a amazing awadhi cuisine..
And yes now talking about the ambiance.. peaceful and elegant..

If you are looking for a fine dining experience, then this is not the place. You actually need to book this place 2-3 days before, not a walk in restaurant. You need to climb three floors to reach the place, order 2 days before and yet, when the food is served, it will be all worth it. The owner is the descendant of Wajid Ali Shah and the Biriyani is the mother of Calcutta Biriyani which walked right from Lucknow. Don't try the khus ka sharbat, rest everything else is awe(wow)some. This place is a vibe and reels of History behind good food.

A very good and unique experience, should definitely try this place. Book in advance. The owner is very sweet and welcoming. The staffs are very friendly as well. The ambience is amazing as well especially during the night. There are a lot of plants on the terrace, hence you might occasionally encounter a rats or a lizard.

Teste is very good & A different taste than everyone else. We order murgh biriyani, chicken chaap & firni. Firni's teste is much better than Arsalan or aminia.awesomeWe enjoyed alot for this amazing ambience to take our lunch. In my opinion to others if people is too much foody one biriyani is probably not enough for it. Order 2 plate it's better.Thank you for giving such a beautiful teste madam "Manzilat"❤️

We got biriyani, galawti kabab and firni pre-ordered 2 days before with 2 biriyanis for takeaway. Even though the items are overpriced, it was a pleasant dining experience. Service was pretty fast, there was no one else at the time. The biriyani had less oil, 2 tiny pieces of mutton, 1 potato and tasted great. Galawti kabab melted in the mouth and the firni was smooth. However, the major disappointment was that in one of the biryanis we had for takeaway had no meat or potatoes whatsoever. They responded and refunded for the same.

Service can be better though Note: you have to pre book dishes 2 days prior to visiting, will be difficult for older people as there is no lift you have to climb to 4 flights of stairs

This is a complete hidden gem in the town. If you are in love with biriyani, and other Awasthi cuisine, this is right up your alley. This is a fancy gourmet place, where you have to reserve your place and pre order the menu. Fatima is the 4th descendent of nawab wazed Ali shah. She cooks all the royal family recipes with the help of her small team. We arrived on time, and one of her staff members greeted us with the welcome drink - khus Ki sarbet. Then we got the galawati kabab, shammi kabab along with ulte tawa ka paratha. The kababs were unearthly- taste wise both of them were different. It was juicy, meaty, soft, aromatic- a very wholesome kabab experience. In the next course we got the biriyani and chaaNp, and rezala. All the food was very fine, aromatic, and filling. The ingredients were top. Towards the end we got the firni. Firni was mildly sweet, and very creamy- topped with nuts. Overall, the food was marvelous, the price was nothing exorbitant. We managed to talk to the chef. She is very humble, and polite. The restaurant is at her own place. Overall the ambience is great- only thing missing was some Lucknowi music in the background. I have the experience of eating in tundey kababi, in Lucknow, and can vouch for the fact that Fatima is doing a tremendous job. Highly recommended.

Excellent environment, we tried Kolkata mutton Biriyani, Galoti kebab and Ulta Tawa paratha. Needless to mention the preparation and taste was class apart. Will definitely visit again. Pointers - Book your seat atleast in two days advance, as its an home roof top arrangement. - Restaurant is on 3rd floor.

Since staff strength is low prior booking is necessary. Quality of food is authentic but quantity is less in comparison to price. The restaurant is on roof top of a 3 storied building without Lift. Very very difficult for aged persons. Don't like to visit again.
