Excellent fusion food, brilliant presentation and perfect cooking. Must go place for all food lovers. If you want to enjoy food and not in a hurry and like to enjoy food while relishing every single aroma and palate; then try out East India Room.
Superbly impressed with what they have done with swabhumi, though I feel they could have incorporated elements from swabhumi in rajkutir such as the flea market etc. Anyway the restaurant was extremely beautiful as was the entire property. The service too was exceptional.
Coming to the food , we felt that there was a serious lack of options, nonetheless we ordered a fair bit and every dish was exceptional. There were however 2 downsides to the food. Firstly, their quantities were quite disappointing, almost heart wrenching. And secondly and the biggest reason for a rating of 4 despite loving everything about the place, they had no breads! Just luchi and tawa paratha. This is not expected at a place with 5 star prices.
Anyway I hope things change post the pandemic. The food is good but prices are steep . Will review each dish at a later stage
Mr Manish was very kind and humble. Chef also Mr Sharnendu
This is a beautiful place. The moment you enter the place, your mood lightens. Thumps up for the decor. The staffs are cooperative and friendly. Next coming to the food, not the best, but good. They were quite tasty. I definitely want to mention the dessert which i loved, the baked Alaska.
Good place to visit at this time..good food good ambiance..the staff was very good...hope to visit again
We went for a special bday lunch and I must say in this pandemic situation their service is just awesome, the staffs are very friendly and helpful, food was awesome, only the drinks we ordered was not so good. Everything was proper hygiene mentained. The restaurant view was great and we were the only visitors that time so we had a great time.
They arranged a brownie as a complementary dessert as it was a bday lunchđ
My only suggestion is arrange a fan at the entrance so that the security feel a little comfortableđ
Otherwise itâs great đ
Would love to visit some other time in future!
This colonial dishes are just perfect with each preparation... From starter to dessert... Perfect.. .

East India Room is the restaurant in the Raajkutir complex within Swabhumi.
Right from entry, the experience is different from that of a usual restaurant in a hotel. Set out at the far end of a courtyard, the ambience of the place is reminiscent of colonial architecture and interiors, with neoclassical furniture, but maintained to perfection unlike some of the real colonial era clubs of Kolkata.
The speciality of the house seems to be Indian dishes with a European twist, which I would like to fancy that the khansamas might have concocted for their European masters; but I wouldnât vouch for it as I am not a food historian. But what was on table was delectable.
The Jali Kabab and Dhakai Morog Pulao were new experiences; Mutton Dak Bunglow was delectable. Nevertheless, Lobster Thermidor was as mundane as served in many other places. The vegetarians in family were equally appreciative of their food.
The staff was extremely courteous and made the whole experience a memorable one: right from the beginning we appreciated being allowed to sit where we chose, helping in selecting the dishes suiting members of family with diverse taste and restrictions and finally arranging a special exit route which was easier than the usual front entrance.
I wish to return soonest.
This place is a part of Raajkutir boutique hotel and all about looks, class and elegance..You'll get an absolutely jamidarbari or rajgharana like feeling while being here..Starting from the entrance to the indoor seating, the lawn, the outside seating..everything will give you the same feel..I absolutely loved all the gestures they made while taking us inside, welcome us and the way they served us.
Regarding food, they are too much expensive,Quantity was also less if compared to the price range but whatever food we ordered was absolutely delicious..We had meat jali kebab,Murgh pulao,Oal korma and Raajkutir special desert..Everything tasted superb and came with a nice garnishing.
This place is absolutely photogenic..Must visit if you love exploring such beautiful places..!
Excellent place to visit.this place represnt the name of this boutique place...very calm and relaxing environment.food taste was good.apppetizer was good but very less in quantity.quantity of main course is moderate.overall it's a great experience.
It was an amazing experience. Beautiful example of fine dining. The staff were absolutely courteous, they were sensitive enough to make it a candle light dinner for us. The food is delicious but a bit pricy. Overall it was a great experience.
I loved the place. Everything from the staff to the decor to the food was beyond par. Go visit and you wouldn't be disappointed. The food was well cooked, came fast and Mr. Ananya was an excellent host.
Visited this place today with my family. Loved the place and the ambience. It gives a Royal feeling. Will visit here soon
We ordered-
1)OLD DHAKA CITY JALI KEBAB(4/5)
2)DHAKAI MOROG PULAO(4/5)
3)MUTTON DAK BUNGALOW(4/5)
4)SPECIAL DESSERT(4/5)-I can not recall the exact name at this moment. It was combined of choco mocha, berry mousse, berry pie with fresh strawberry.
All the items tasted good. But there are not various options in menu and prices are higher too.
Beautiful experience. Will visit again.
The food tastes excellent to say the least! The overall experience was amazing. We had gone for my parents wedding anniversary celebration and it was totally worth it. The prices are on the higher side when you compare it with the food portions served. However, they do serve some fresh out of the oven, super soft and delicious focaccia bread with some pesto butter, on the house, which eventually makes up for the small portions of the dishes ordered. We ordered their Darjeeling tea grilled bhetki along with tetrazzini and chicken a la Kiev. The theme and the menu goes hand in hand and works wonders. They might want to add some more chicken dishes for the people who donât take mutton lamb or pork, currently the options available are very limited. Overall super experience!
Have visited this place during Durga Puja with my family. I have made an early reservation. The place and the decor and everything was so good. Especially the idol of maa Durga and the dance and folk songs performed by a group made the ambience so memorable. The buffet menu was exquisite, ranging from authentic Bengali dish to North Indian and Chinese as well. The quantity of food was good. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The only disappointment was being chargeddd 500 rs for 2 cans of sprite, Who's marked price is not more than 45 Rs each can.
If you want to eat, sleep, stay & feel like a zamindar then Raajkutir is the place to be. The entire story about the history of Raajkutir is nothing but a figment of imagination, which is designed with the intent to make visitors relive a bygone era (pre-Independence glorious days Bengal). Located at EM Bypass just beside Inox Swabhumi, Raajkutir is a luxuy boutique hotel that houses 33 rooms each named and modelled on the member of the fictional family. East India Room, is the main restaurant at Raajkutir. The menu features dishes inspired from the kitchens of local Zamindars of British era, and also Jewish, Portuguese, Anglo-Indian cuisines. The menu here has been carefully curated after much research to revive all those forgotten recipes.
Some of the must try here include:
"Prawn Cocktail" of East India Room ~ Raajkutir, is a treat both visually and tastewise. It is served on an ice sculpted hand and the pink colored cocktail sauce tasted just perfect.
~Chicken A La Kiev
If you want to experience this decadent dish in all its pomp and glory then head to East India Room ~ Raajkutir. It's a Russian dish named after the queen city of Ukraine; Kiev. A La Kiev is made of chicken fillet that is pounded and rolled around cold butter, then coated with eggs and bread crumbs, which is then either fried or baked.
P.S. Be very careful as a melted stream of flavourful hot butter may squirt onto you during the first cut of the chicken.
~I HAVE ABS-olutely no self-control when it comes to desserts. "Rose Petal Caramel Custard & Tiramisu" It just doesn't get any better. Highly Highly Recommended!!
~Basil Watermelon Duet
~Lamb Pantheras
~Mushroom Vindaloo
East India Room - Raajkutir
Location - Just Besides Inox Swabhumi, Kankurgachi, Kolkata
Bengal was once the home of a French colony and also hosted populations of Portuguese, Dutch, British and Mughal descendants. These collective western influences are seen in the food created to satisfy the tastes of the western rulers.
Travel down the memory lane with zamindari style and food from the bygone era at East India Room, Raajkutir
Good quality food, amazing decor and ambience, courteous and well behaved staffs - All these sums up to East India Room â¤ď¸
In frame -
đš Garlic Olive Foccacia With Herb Butter (Complimentary)
đš Cappuccino
đš Calcuttaâs Legendary Prawn Cocktail
đš Phulkopi Roast
đš Dhakai Murg Polao
đš Niramish Bhuna Khichudi
đš Colonial Mutton Dak Bungalow
All the above dishes are must try.The prices are on the higher side, but you should experience this at least once.
The ambience is just beautiful of this place.. The foods were good but compared to the price the quantity was not that enough. The most disappointing was the price of water which was 299.. The staffs were polite. Overall nice experience..
Top marks for ambience for this one
It's part of the Raj Kutir Boutique Hotel at Swabhumi, so that adds to the vibe too.
Went here with my family. I had heard about the decor from quite a few friends and surely enough, it IS beautiful.
Food.
Portions are less for the prices. All delicious though. We ordered the legendary prawn cocktail and pine smoked Darjeeling tea beckty for starters. The prawn comes on an ice sculpture of a hand. I absolutely loved the beckty.
Mains
Yellow coconut rice, keema mughlai paratha and beckty meuniere. All so good. They take a long time to bring the food to your table but it's worth the wait. Although, we were one of two groups dining there that night, so I was expecting quicker service.
The cuisine is colonial style so don't expect regular Bengali food here. But one of us wanted regular fish curry (not on the menu) and the chef accommodated. Cooked us a homely fish gravy with cauliflowers and all.
Will definitely revisit.
Recommended!
A beautiful gem inside the heart of Kolkata. Such an eyesoothing and soul healing ambience with a hint of slow music of Taanpura in background âĽď¸
Food quality was undoubtedly awesome and specially the naming of the items are unique and named after special personality or heritage places of Kolkata.
We had ordered the below items.
Raja Nrishinghoprotap's Dunger Chicken đ
Dhakai morog polao đ
Phoolko Loochi
Colonial Mutton Dak Bungalow đ
And total price costing was above 2k including 18% GST and 7.5% Service tax - which is what I didn't like here. Also the food price is high according to the quantity. Except the fact of service tax and food price, this place deserves a visit at least once.
East India Room at Swabhumi is a hidden gem in the heart of Kolkata. Serving Colonial Bengali cuisine this restaurant is one of a kind. The ambience is beautiful.. There was a complete Bengali Buffet Spread. The quality was excellent. The staff was very courteous.
Must tryđ
Royalty be thy name...
East India Room symbolises the bygone British Raj era of Bengal in very way....
As you walk through the veranda and enter the courtyard you come across ambience and furniture which transcends time and take you back to the days of old.
Start from muskets, swords to chariots, iron and wooden furniture, the architecture which totally is a reminder of the of the rajbaris and bunglows, fountains, the huge dalan or courtyard alongside the lifesize pottery vases, trees. They have simply re created a world where you are left transfixed, its time a time machine and you as long as you are there you will loveto cherish every moment of it. Dont forget your camera because you definitely capture this beauty.
Coming to the staff and service its topnotch, its very well trained and communicative.Â
Food we went for a Durga Puja buffet ,normally they have a la carte.
Quality and Taste wise there was no compromise, I ensured I took quite a few servings because to be honest it was delicious authentic bengali food at one of its best.Â
we triedÂ
Gondhoraj lime scented chicken,Fish Fry,Malai Chingri,Chicken Chanmp,Mutton Biriyani,Bhetkir Kalia,Pulao.Â
in desserts we went for Misti Doi,Sandesh,Langcha,Rosogolla,Ice cream.
they added a twist to the menu as item were names after famous pujas....
like Malai chingri was named Singhi Park er Malai chingri, Chetlar Bhetkir Kalia....
sure know how to keep their patrons hooked.Â
They have both indoor and outdoor seating, I prefer both to be honest though outdoor during day time will be fun, you can be lost in your food and lost in translation at the same time.......
Must visit
Excellent Ambience.. Excellent food....served by Mr. Pratim...and had nice chat with him...
First of all the decor is mind blowing! The hospitality is great and the food superb. We ordered for some basic luchi alu r dom, prawn cocktail, Morog Pulao and baked Alaska, the presentation was really unique and the taste authentic. Would definitely recommend this place. Loved the ambience.
Awesome food awesome atmosphere...loved this place
...
Location:- Located just beside swabhumi inox
Ambience:- It deserves a 5star rating for the ambience. Such a Royal ambience. So much soothing decor. Ambience makes this place a must visit.
Food:- Food is undoubtedly good. But quantity is a bit less according to the price. We ordered a starter of bhetki fish. Then murgh pulao with golbari chicken. All were very tasty.
Service:- Service was prompt. Very courteous staff. They will even suggest you dishes & will take care of every small thing.
Overall:- I have given a 4star just because of the price. Otherwise definitely a must visit place.
Rajkumar is a new boutique hotel near Swabhumi. This is one of the restaurants located inside the hotel building, which serves Anglo Indian cuisine. The entire restaurant is located in zamindari style - from the walls to the ceiling, the lights, the dining table, and everything else. The Anglo Indian cuisine which they serve is from the authentic recipes which had originated back in the British era.
I tried several dishes. My favorites were :
⢠Prawn Cocktail - Firstly, the presentation was impressive. The lettuce had sliced prawns. They were fresh and very juicy.
⢠Lamb Pantheras - The lamb stuffing was terrific. The meat was thinly sliced and was cooked to perfection. I loved this!
⢠Chicken A La Kyiv - I had a good A La Kiev after months. The chicken stuffing was great and the outer coating was super crispy.
⢠Caramel Custard - The custard tasted great. The sweetness was well balanced.
Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the food, ambience, service and the overall hospitality at Raajkutir. Looking forward to my next visit.
Went for a food festival last night, loved the ambiance and the service. The three course meal consisted of the following items:
Garlic-olive Foccacia with herb butter.
Job Charnok's Chicken & Ham Salad (chicken, Ham, lettuce, pineapple, and a very mild dressing).
Yellow coconut rice.
Colonial mutton curry.
Oal korma (yam balls in cashew & poppy based gravy).
Nashipur Palace Kolaiyer Daal (green lentils tempered in garlic and green chilli).
Fulko luchi (literally fulko).
Caramel custard.
Deconstructed black forest pudding.
Each and every item were crafted to perfection. The taste was exquisite, and flavours complimented each other. Of of the best foccacia I have had in a long time. The mutton was well cooked. The desserts were extremely light on the palette and did not overpower the aftertaste of the rest of the food.
The only thing that could have made the experience hit all the right chords is the availability of valet parking. Finding the parking space within Swabhoomi was a tough job. Plus we had to walk all the way from the parking to the restaurant through extremely dimly lit pathways and stairs. Plus there was water here and there throughout the compound due to rain. A diner might not want to take this heck before eating. Please think about a solution.
The hidden gem of Kolkata. One of the finest restaurant I have ever seen. The ambience was amazing. The food quality was no doubt good. The staffs were very well behaved and helpful .As compared to the ambience the price of the food was ok
Food 4/5
Ambience 5/5
Behaviour of the staff 5/5
Pricing 5/5

A beautiful decored place with amazing food. Service is top notch. While we had a amazing time gazing at the decor and enjoyed the food we did face a very serious problem. The place doesn't have wheelchair access. Hope this can be taken care of very soon. Rest we had a amazing time. Highly recommended.. Will visit soonâď¸
Superb concept in a beautiful property. Old world charm with loads of character. Menu is superb, it has all the British Anglo Indian dishes which are not regularly seen on the menus now.
The Pantheras, Jaali kebab, Daak Bungalow Mutton curry and even the Bengali fate is amazing especially the Hilda preparations were just superb.
Service is class apart and food by Chef Bikrom is amazing.
Staff was very friendly Mr.Pritam Paul was very humble and very nice. Although food portion was small but taste, ambience was very awsome.
A boutique restaurant in a boutique hotel. Absolutely lives up the expectations and actually over delivered. Loved the food and specifically the presentation and freshness. The waiters were bang on with their recommendations...they knew the kitchen well. This is a place I would recommend for a family type of gathering. This is one of a kind experience in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. The prices may seem a bit high at first but the experience is just worth it. The food was really fresh and I enjoyed the fusion Bengali food. A really awesome contemporary restaurant...a must for anyone planning to start a weekend with a relaxing dinner. I would prefer calling it an experience rather than just a meal. I will be back soon. Keep up the good work guys.
The place was awesome. The items were different and nice I went on 15 th august and the arrangements were awesome and they arranged birthday cake and it was yummy.
Mutton dunkbanglow was very yummy.
The location where the restaurant is now set, used to be a simple area inside Swabhumi, with small stalls and shops. Yet, when someone walks in this open space now, it's as if he/she has entered the Anglo-indian time and space dimension of colonial India. With Zamindar Palace style decor, it triggers one's aesthetic senses pretty well. The restaurant in one of the 3 sections of the Rajkuthir group, the other two being Loafer's Cafe (cafe and bakery) and The Swig (bar).
It looks out to the courtyard area, with a fountain and what is called 'paalki' with two gorgeous lion statues on its two sides. The building itself is a royal yellow where as the inside has a theme of beautiful and elegant offwhite walls and brown wood and Cane-set chairs just like one could image the old Rajbaris having. Coloured glass over the doors is the final touch that transports one to that time period of India.
The restaurant itself has a royal and high class decor with a few large table for larger groups and a few smaller ones. The food is pretty nice, and the food for value rate is good enough considering it is afterall a boutique restaurant.
One may decide to choose between the Indian Cuisine or Continental though popular review states the indian cuisine would be a better chose. However, we decided to take our chances with the continental and ordered the Al a Kiev and Bolognese. The chicken was succulent and the quite creatively filled with chicken stalk with enhanced the flavour of the simple boiled meat along with the coating.
The staff are well behaved, and try to help. However, they could be slightly more efficient.
It was a good experience.
Overall rating:
1) Food - 4.5/5 (tough competition considering the cuisine they chose)
2) Ambience - 5/5 (extra points for the decide of the entire place)
3) Service- 3.5/5
Great place with great ambience...its a must visit...They even served complimentary dish i have attached the pic below..i ordered bhetki which was too good..n rest mouthwatering khashir dalia is a must try....
Wow!
Yummy food.. best in class
Great menu
Excellent hospitality and servings!
The staff were super humble and presentable..
Aman was our waiter! He not only helped us make the perfect choices in the menu but also ensured they were served well to our appetite!!!
Canât wait to go again!
A perfect evening if you are going out with family and friends.
The olace is dreamy
I do go by the principle of never reviewing any eatery of interest unless I have had the chance of visiting the place at least twice because first impressions can be deceiving. But today, a rare exception to my own modus operandi has been brought upon by this marvellous new place in town called Raajkutir - The East India Room.
A friend of mine, who is a huge food nerd herself had insisted that I should pay a visit to this newly found wonder and lo behold, boy did it awestruck me.
The warm hospitality here has been the best I have ever had the opportunity to experience ( a few other eateries in Kolkata could actually take note) , the staff were cordial, welcoming and very very accommodating.
A point of advice, if you are planning to visit then the wise thing to do would be to book a table ahead of time and insist upon having âAmanâ, the most adorable concierge to help you steer through the dreamy evening.
Coming to the point of business, the food is a sumptuous affair with a flavourful hymn floating you away to your own gastronomic heaven. Donât go by my words , experience it to believe it. I did notice that the portion size of Pulav was a bit less than I had expected but the taste and aroma covered all its follies.
My advice to you all gastronomic connoisseurs out there is to experience this regal hospitality with the long forgotten ambience and essence of âBoro Bariâ in its all splendour and glory. Let the erstwhile ambience of this place usher you to the refined senses which is so sorely amiss in the city bustle. Let the past catch up once more because food is more than just palate, itâs about experience and memories.
If you are planning to visit this place keep some time in your hand... Enjoy the pure Zamandari ambiance of our heritage... Ask someone who can brief you about the history of the place... The decor will melt your heart and the heritage of our rich culture will give you goosebumps... I just fall in love with the place...
Now coming to the food... Where you are going to spend your money... They are serving some outstanding dishes with exquisite and imported ingredients to showcase our Anglo Indian Culture with a hint of mordanization in it...
I'm reccomending some dishes without going into much details... But you will like it for sure...
For the Vegetarians...
"Bundle Cheese Malakoff", "Niramish Cutlet" or "Oscar of Waldorf", "Mushroom Vindaloo" and "Vegetable Tetrazzini â...
For the Non Vegetarians...
"Prawn Cocktail", "Lamb Pantheras", "A La Kiev" and "Becky Muniere"...
Don't forget to try the Homemade Breads and desserts also... I just blown away after tasting their "Rose Petal Caramel Custard" and "Tiramisu"...
Also the "Basil Watermelon Duet" is very refreshing... I love it...
Nothing to tell about the Staffs and Service... Both are top notch and outstanding...
Pocket Pinch is very much justified...
So, plan a visit and enjoy the fullest...
Disclaimer: This review is based on invitation from the Restaurant Management..
Yes, the price is on quite a higher side, yet the food along with the colonial decor would transport you back to the times of Rajas and Zamindars. For that experience alone, and with uniquely delicious food, the price is justified.
1) Mulligatawny Soup: Delicious lentil based soup to start. Instant favorite.
2) Jali Kabab: Uniquely prepared and quite a differently flavored mutton keema kebab. A must try.
3) Dunger Chicken: Chicken drumsticks. Succulent, smoky and crispy skin. A delight.
4) Beckty Meuniere: A good dish, fish steak in a creamy sauce.
5) Mutton Dak Banglow and Morog Polao: A fantastic polao made with chinigura rice, not found in India. Went really well with the dak banglow.
Recommended.
The ambience is beautiful.Great for a dayout, very instaworthy. We ordered pantheras(3/5),pine smoked bhetki(4/5)and satyajitroy bhetki(3.5/5) for starters.Mutton dakbunglow(2/5) and morog polao(2.5/5) for maincourse. Also ordered a chamolie tea(2/5) that smelled of toothpaste(may be thats how its supposed to smell. The staff was courteous. This place is for photosessions and feel good atmosphere.Food isn't really good.
Raaj Kutir East India Room is a fine dining place which is very costly. The ambience is great and the food is good. The staff is courteous. Rating: 3.5*
Firstly the name of this place takes us back to the Anglo Indian Era. This place has a striking resemblance to the erstwhile days of British India. The decor of this place is in sync with the name. This place has a different aura which transports the mind into another world as soon as you step in.
Went to have dinner over here focusing on the Anglo Indian Menu.
We had tried
Cucumberita and basil watermelon duet.
I personally liked the watermelon cooler more.
Next coming to the dishes we had
For appetizers we had
Prawn cocktail - very few places can serve such a perfect dish.
I absolutely loved this had the perfect coldness associated with it.
Lamb Pantheras- definitely my favorite out of all.
This was absolutely something unique to me and was an absolute delight.
Bandel cheese malakoff - so cheesy and crispy.
Oscar of Waldorf - basically the niramish cutlet.
Quite tasty and simple.
Moving on to the mains I had
A la kiev - The oozing butter and the thick crispy coat makes it an absolute treat.
Becky Muniere - absolutely lovely and lipsmacking.
Mushroom vindaloo - I never had mushroom vindaloo's that were so tasty. Absolutely amazing it tasted with the rice.
Rose petal caramal custard - To seal the dinner this was our lovely dessert.
Raajkutir is a new boutique hotel near Swabhumi. This is one of the restaurants located inside the hotel building, which serves Anglo Indian cuisine. The entire restaurant is located in zamindari style - from the walls to the ceiling, the lights, the dining table and everything else. The Anglo Indian cuisine which they serve are from the authentic recipes which had originated back in the British era.
I tried a number of dishes. My favorites were :
⢠Prawn Cocktail - Firstly, the presentation was impressive. Instead of placing the salad on a bed of crushed ice, they have created a hand made of ice and placed on the salad on top of it. The salad had sliced prawns. They were fresh and very juicy.
⢠Lamb Pantheras - The lamb stuffing was amazing. The meat was thinly sliced and was cooked to perfection. I loved this !
⢠Bandel Cheese Malakoff - This was stuffed with solid cheese, which melted in my mouth. The salty flavour of the cheese was balanced by the sweet sauce served alongside.
⢠Beckty Muniere - The fish fillet was quite thick. It was fresh and the texture was very soft. I loved the sauce which had a mix of butter and ghee.
⢠Mushroom Vindaloo - This was the star dish of the night, according to me. The sweet and spicy flavour of this dish was well complemented by the yellow coconut rice. This is a must try here.
⢠Chicken A La Kiev - I had a good A La Kiev after months.
Innovative food items
Great food
Nice ambience
Service needs to be improved
Overall nice experience and worth a try.
Prawn cocktails-a must try.
A different experience one would go through in East India Room located inside Raajkutir. A colonial cuisine it is known for with all the lost recipes of Bengal. The must try would be : Jali Kebab, Mulligatawny, Mutton Dak Bungalow and The Legendary Prawn Cocktail, all served in a stylish manner to make you go gaga. My personal best-loved is the Mulligatawny any day and any time of the hour.
A dining out experience should not be about only food or ambience or service but a combination of all these. The East India Room provides all three seamlessly.
The food was novel and even the familiar dishes were presented uniquely.
The outer area of the restaurant overlooks a beautiful courtyard surrounded by flowering trees which itself contributes to the serene and elegant setting.
The food ,served efficiently, was delicious and some of them were new even to a veteran gourmand like me.
There was a delightful combination of West Bengal and erstwhile East Bengal popular dishes in the menu along with modern western dishes efficiently prepared. None of your gratin or cheesy "baked " dishes ..thank you.
We had " mulligatawney" soup ( nice ) a stuffed crepe( delicious ) a chicken jaali kabab ( outstanding ) dalcha ( so comforting ) and a light and flavourful Morog pulao, made with a special Bangladeshi rice.
Not cheap..but well worth the money.
What I appreciated the most was that dishes, which were shared by three of us, were all i individually plated and we did not have to mess up a well plated portion. Thank you Chef..very thoughtgul of you.
Highly recommend.

Meet âRaajkutirâ from the house of Ambuja Neotia.
This luxury boutique hotel takes you back to the old Calcutta heritage which has a very rich culture and extreme royalty.
There are total of 33 rooms which will take you back to a different era all together.
We were dined in style at the âEast India Roomâ their dining hall, the only one, till now. This is based on the âColonial Companion,â Indian dining experience which developed during the British Raj in India, as the British wives interacted with their Indian cooks. This place offers you the much needed peace, calmness, so much so, that you can hear the dropping of a pin!
Every evening, they organise âsondhe aratiâ âbaul gaanâ and âdhunuchi naachâ for all the guests đ
The recipes crafted have been inspired from the kitchens of local zamindars and British Kitchens and are authentic, homely and very traditional. Raajkutir - Swabhumi takes you back in time, Into the enlightenment called the Bengal Renaissance. The sit down dinners bring the best from the kitchen. Be it the jaali kebab, the mulligatawny soup, the prawn cocktail (presentation will blow your mind), or the pulao! Every thing is spot on! The experience stays with you for real long!
Wonderful ambience and great service.
Food was not up to par but the rest covers up for it. An amazing place to experience the British evening dinner of 19th century.
Must try if in Bengal.
A hidden gem and an untold story of Raja who defeated the British once !
I am planning to visit this place again courtesy the staff member present and doing a very good job !
Spread in a very big area boasts cafe pubs and a lot more for you to explore
Though I missed the rituals done but hope can catch some action the next time !
#for a perfect date
You just don't eat but you experience it.. The ambience and spread just takes you back to the colonial era.The food served is in enough portion and prices are apt to the food offered. Friendly and courteous staff. The staffs are polite .Must visit
Nostalgic place with an awesome change over. Lovely ambience, excellent taste of food (a bit pocket burning though..), descent service. A must-visit!
East India Room at Raajkutir has a unique menu with dishes inspired from the pre-independence era in Bengal which had influences of Portuguese, Mughal and Anglo Indian cuisines.
Starting with Dhakai Paratha, Dhaka Jaali kebab, Bandel cheese Malakoft in appetisers to Bhapa Chingri, Mutton dakbungalow, Dhakai Pulao in the main course, this meal was memorable. There was also Sor Doi, Langcha and Patishapta in the dessert section.
There were also refreshing summer drinks like Aam pora sherbet and Bel (wood apple) sherbet to beat the summer heat. The ambience and decor is beautiful resembling a Zamindar house. Totally loved this place and the food here.
After eating here on a number of occasions I can vouch for the fact that they serve up some delectable food. We love the Jaali Kebab, Prawn Cocktail, Pantheras, Mutton Dakbungalow, Devilled Crab and Fried Fish.
A place I thoroughly enjoy dining in and revisiting both for the food and the ambiance.
This is inside the Rajkutir property. We went during the bengali new year and they were serving buffet.
The food was very good and there was lots of options . Must try for all.
Recommendations:
Legendary Prawn Cocktail
Chocolate bullseye
Nolen Gur & Coconut Ice cream
The decor of this place is luxurious. Youâd get a royal feeling upon entering this hotel. Coming to the restaurant, it was quite nicely decorated. My favorite food of the day was the Calcutta legendary prawn cocktail!! Boy was it beautiful and really delicious. The price was 549. Also ordered Pine smoked Darjeeling Beckty which was okay ish and Raj kachori and mutton kebabs. Yes we love our starters.
Main course we had Home style chicken, Duck Bungalow, Nan, Dhakai Morog Pulao. The main was good.
Followed by another amazingly decorated dessert. We had chocolate bullseye and nolen and coconut ice cream which were amazing.
Iâm deducting one star because we were charged 7 freaking hundred for a home style chicken curry which was not on the menu but they made it for us and it was a really basic chicken curry. Other than that, we had a great time. Our bill was 6600/- so yeah not pocket friendly.
We went for the buffet during poila boishakh and let me tell you it was reasonably priced and food was awesome!!!the deserts like patishapta was awesome.mutton luchi took my heart away. There was a fish fry which left us drooling.overall it was a great experience and service was excellent.

"East India Room offering a stylized interpretation of the, âColonial Companionâ, Indian dining experience which developed during the British Raj in India, as the British wives interacted with their Indian cooks.
Bengal was once the home of a French colony and also hosted populations of Portuguese, Dutch, British and Mughal descendants. These collective western influences are seen in the food created to satisfy the tastes of the western rulers. The result is a unique blend of cuisine, local ingredients adapted to French, Italian and Western cooking techniquesâcharacterized by creamy sauces, the restrained use of spices, and new techniques such as Baking, Grilling, Frying, Poaching, Steaming, Roasting etc.
The recipes crafted have been inspired from the kitchens of local Zamindars before Independence and the British kitchens infusing authenticity into the food with focus on home style, comfort dishes and rich tradition.Even widows had a huge impact on the cuisine during the Raj. While most Bengalis ate meat and fish, this was barred for widows. Widows also did not use âbody-warmingâ ingredients such as shallot and garlic, but ginger was allowedâthis found a core place in Bengali curries, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian."

Hospitality of this place will tug strings of your heart and leave you wanting to come here more and more.
The set zamindari theme decor and the host all dressed in "bangali poshak ashak"
A must try restaurant...
This is British time Calcutta food. It is a mix of continental and Bengali food. All the preparations are good, and worth a try. The ambience and decor is a tribute to the heritage of West Bengal.
My only complaint with this restaurant was that they didn't have most of the desserts written in the menu.
With time, I hope that won't be a problem.
The East India Room, Raajkutir:
Raajkutir derives its inspiration from preserving the culture of the British Colonial Bengal and rekindle those traditions in every sense. The hotel houses 33 rooms, reminiscent of the family members of Kaliprasanna Singha (fictional). Each room has its own character which sets this place apart from the rest.
The East India Room offer a stylised interpretation of the "Colonial Compan", Indian dining experience which developed during the British Raj. Their specialities include the Prawn Cocktail, a remake on the famous Mulligatawny and their Dungari Chicken, Mishti Madhur Korola and the amazing Mutton Dak Bungalow. They have picked simple homemade delicacies and given them an aesthetic touch.
Cost for two: Rs 1500+
Amids the authentic Bengali ambience, your taste palate is enriched by this amazing cuisine which is a fusion of English and Bengali delicacies.A delightful fine dining restaurant with a good hospitality.
We dropped a visit there for a Sunday lunch. Initially we mistook it a for a standalone restaurant but on reaching the spot we found it to be inside a boutique hotel named "Rajkutir".
Basically it had on my bucket list once I got to know about it from the review of Times of India.
As they say first impression is the last impression, we were literally swept of our feet once we entered the premises as it seemed we entered the courtyard of an erstwhile zamindarbari. Really the structure was built based on the history of the certain yesteryear Bengal King and its kingdom.
It seemed certain family member of that kingdom may come out suddenly from anywhere of that palatial place.
Anyway now coming to the food and the ambience part. We ordered Jali Kebab of Dhaka and Narsingpratap's dungar chicken for starter alongwith Pina Colada. The staffs were very courteous and willing to go to an extra length for convenience of ours.
The jali kebab was made of minced mutton and its final look was very intriguing as it was wrapped under certain jal or net type of shape made of flour. The taste was awesome and its a must try if anybody comes here with a strong palate for dishes of erstwhile Bengal. The dungar chicken was too good and lip smacking to the hilt. The tangy veneer upon that melt in the mouth chicken with smoky trait would begging for the appreciation of the food lovers palate. This bengal gharana dish can give KFC-s smoky chicken a run for their money-I must say.
For mains we ordered Dhakai Morog Pulao along with Mutton Dukbanglow. We were little bit dejected as the menu card had nothing to offer regarding Chicken gravy dish. Here we understood one thing about the place and significance of the name i.e East India Room-basically it is not a true blue bengali cuisine like 6 Ballygunge Place or Bhajahari Manna rather it was a place where the Western cuisine mingled with traditional erstwhile Bengali zamindari recipes. Therefore the place basically consists of Continental and rare gems from Bengal alongwith some fusion dishes to its credit.
The murag Pulao was really well cooked and heavy enough for two people but the mutton Dukbanglow was not something to be overwhelmed about. Though it was good but the presentation and the taste was not something to reorder again as far as we were concerned.
The ambience will get 100 out of 100 as it perfectly captured the 'Banediana' i. e aristocracy of the erstwhile zamindari to perfection. It was soothing and perfect backdrop for a peaceful lunch or dinner.
Overall one should at least visit the place once to soak in the aroma wafting out of the old zamindaribari styled edifice while digging into one's dishes.
This restaurant is inside a boutique hotel named Rajkutir, it is a great place you must visit at least once.
**Food**
We ordered
1. Mulligatawny Soup (5/5)
2. Pine smoked Darjeeling Tea Betcki (4.2/5)
3. Spaghetti (4.9/5)
4. Coffee mascarpone Mousse cake(5/5)
You don't have to worry about the food at all, it will either be delicious or very delicious. I am giving a 5 on 5 for food.
**Ambience**
Like the name it's decor and ambience is pretty much like a Royal House of Kolkata in the British era. Until the food is arriving, take a tour around.
**Staff**
Very courteous and well mannered. The best part is they had very good knowledge of the food they are serving. If you are confused about what to order, go with their suggestion.
Making a Bengali happy through food is very vital and that too on Poila Baisakh(our new year)
Our family was welcomed with warm greetings and the ambience was perfect with live baul sangeet in the back and beautiful Bengali food.
The appetisers were just awesome
The main course was beautifully designed
And to end it all the deserts were perfect
The ambience was really beautiful so was the hospitality and the food too. I would recommend this place to everyone who would like to walk through the lanes of traditional Bengali ethnicity.
There couldn't have been a better place for Poila Boishak lunch! They had an elaborate menu which combined the best of authentic Bangali cuisine, and I'm still drooling over the jaali kebab, Chingari and mutton dakbunglow! Oh and how delicious were the desserts - from black forest pastry to patishapta! They had it all. A perfect royal ambiance and such wonderful people, this place indeed will go a long way.
I would recommend this to all foodies out there, do visit this place - coz it's not just about eating, but an experience as a while!
Can I give them 11 out of 10??? đ
Had been to East India Room to celebrate our one month anniversary, and was spellbound by the quality of food and services offered. The place has an unique amalgamation of Bengali and Colonial delicacies, that probably no other place offers. If you are looking for an ideal date dinner, this would be perfect, the heritage ambience along with candle lit tables set the right mood for the evening. You can choose to sit inside or outside as per your choice. Amongst the delicacies, Dhakai Murgi Pulao and Jali Kebab is must recommended. Will surely visit again.
Such a lovely place to have lunch. This place is resplendent with the vibe of a bygone "bonedi" era in Calcutta. The hotel has a huge space right in the middle with trees around it. The restaurant itself gives an amazing experience of the Bengali platter. The chingri macher malai kari and mutton (so-good-that-the-meat-came-off-the-bone) went really well with the basanti polao.
I would personally recommend the mutton spring roll or something like that which I ordered (can't recall). It was delicious.
There's a little room for improvement in the desserts (personal view) but the taste was good and is recommended.
Service was prompt and fast. The sous chef personally came to ask if we liked what was served and the answer, quite obviously, was a big yes.
Definitely would love to visit this place again.
Soak into the colonial hangover once more in style. The menu is a curated one hence not too lengthy...just selected items...the main course items have common bengali delicacies but I gave them a pass I wanted to taste something unique so selected the darjeeling tea tossed beckti fillet and loved it. The jali mutton kebab is just about Ok..quality of lamb is good. Prices are around 650 plus...I would recommend having a cup of tea here...nicely presented on a wooden tray with a glass tea pot,cup and whole arrangement was a complete feel good. Desserts include monte carlo, caramel custard, misti doi, rosogolla, ice cream if you like. There is a selection of alcohol available ask gor it separately. This space would sit around 40 people. Shout out to the staff coutesy...appreciate it. I really wish for a nice chicken omlet, toasts and pancake in the menu please if possible!
Part of the IHCL Rajkutir, a reason we went in. Food is pan bengali and has options on chicken, mutton and bhetki. No other fish options are there. Dish sides are comprehensive and illusive.
I had a good experience there. Food service and ambience is so good. It was late evening and there was some delicious food over there.
You can also stay there. The decorations are so clean and classy, peaceful.
I loved it so much.

Food and drinks tasted awsm, however price is on the higher side. Ambience is good . Staff are really polite and great at their service.Would love to visit again. It will be good if something can be done about the mosquitoes there.
For an authentic bengali culinary experience amidst the setting of a zamindar mansion this resort is aptly named 'Raajkuthir'. The food is just heavenly and very ethnic. The vibes of the restaurant, named East India Room are very bright, sunny and energetic. The decor is very tastefully done and the setting gives one a feel of the colonial era. The staff are very courteous and take very good care of the guests. We were in luck as there was a live folk artist performance in the dining area. Overall a splendid experience.
I would like to give 10/10⌠food, ambience ⌠awesome experience⌠must try their signature dishesâŚ
1. Dhakai jali kebab..
2. Pine smoked bhetki
3. Dhakai mugh pulao
4. Fish and chip ( name of the dish is different⌠) đ
I canât recall actually
Awesome behaviour of staffs⌠so cordial⌠they would guide you about their signature itemsâŚ.
I love it đť
Fine dining, extraordinary service and decor. Heritage setting to the max. A fitting place for a farewell lunch before heading to the Netaji airport. Unforgettable flavors, classic Bengali techniques and dishes. Smoked bhetki starter is a must try. An experience worth remembering forever
The food quality is too good. Behavior of head chef is awesome. He personally attended all the people who came to eat there. He was humble and also communicated very politely about the food and process of cooking.
The mouthwatering bengali dishes captured the mind and left a happy vibe.
We had the pleasure of dining at the East India Room in Rajkutir recently, and it was an extraordinary experience. Chef Biswajit's creations were nothing short of amazing. His cooking skills, attention to detail, and warm hospitality made our visit truly memorable. We're already looking forward to our next visit!
