This is the most underrated Mughlai restaurant in Calcutta. I have had biryani from all kinds of places in the city, from the most popular and iconic eateries across town.. but I come back to Aliah. The biryani, be it the mutton or the chicken, is the best. Period. Personally, I love to order a plate of chicken liver curry and a plate of mutton biryani with extra salad and a ThumsUp on the side. I finish it with a firni. And I am done! The kebabs are nice. But the biryani is to die for.
Such a dry biriyani(because I never like oily biriyani), accompanied by mutton stew, murg musallam and Firni at the end makes a perfect deal and a must try for all!!!
I personally love this Restaurant to the moon and back.. The Biriyani over here is too light as well as mouth-watering too.. I love the "Chicken Biriyani" as "Mutton Keema" over here.. "Tandoori Roti" and "Chicken"Chanp" always goes quite well together with a bottle of Cold-Drink.. If you have not visited this place, I'm quite sure you are going to get addicted to this place due to it's delicacies as well as ambience is all very good over here.. Do Visit this Restaurant, it's really worth visiting. :)
Love the mutton biryani. Just the best. All other things on the menu are as good but mostly I'm full after the biryani salad n a cold drink.
Exactly the taste of biryani which i found in Kolkata. It will be fully complete if the piece of the meat be bigger. The 1st floor is so nostalgic and it suits with the biryani and firni.
Good luck team.
Classic Mughlai Food restaurant. The Mutton Biryani is simply perfect here. Another blockbuster item here is Mutton Keema, with outstanding Paratha or Tandoori Roti. Firni is a delight here. Also the seasonal Haleem here is among the best in the city.
Had biriyani here and it was really delicious. The mutton was very tender and full of flavours. The firni was really delicious too.
Aliah is one of the hidden gems of Mughlai food in Kolkata. It is one of the unsung heroes like Rahul Dravid in Eden Test against Australia (2001). Located in Esplanade, just beside Paradise Cinema Hall and Amber hotel, this place is must for all food lovers. Don't expect GlamSham decor, but you will surely get awesome food. If any of you are new to Kolkata, for their convenience, apart from Ola/Uber you use the Kolkata Metrorail network and get down in Esplanade Metro station. From there a short walk. The second floor of the restaurant is airconditioned. The staff were courteous and always ready to help. We had :
(1) Chicken Reshmi Kabab - The six pieces of succulent kabab was beautifully infused with the flavour of spices, it was really soft melt-in-mouth, served with salad and green chutney.
(2) Tandoori Roti - We took roti as a starter with the kebabs. it was really thick and soft. It was a perfect match with the kebabs.
(3) Mutton Special Biriyani - This was one of the best biriyanis in Kolkata in my opinion. It comes with one mandatory egg, potato and two pieces of mutton. The biriyanis is so aromatic with soft pieces of mutton, pillow-soft potato. The flavour of the biriyani is perfect, not too mild not too severe. After we finished biriyani the plate was not full of oil, which indicated its not too much oily.
(4) Chicken Kosha - This is chicken in gravy. We had this with Biriyani. The flavour of the gravy was a mindblowing match with biriyani. Chicken pieces were good, with lots of meat on it.
(5) Firni- The Firni was exotic, this is the best Firni I had in Kolkata. Its a pudding from the Indian subcontinent. The sweetness is subtle. Light in the stomach and serves as a perfect closure after the biriyani.
Food - 9/10
Ambience - 7/10
Service - 9/10
Value for Money - 9/10
Whenever I feel lonely or depressed the only thing which comes to my mind is Alia's biryani....It has been in my favourite biryani houses since my childhood.
Ordered food from here is awesome and delicious. Packaging is good. Timely delivery.
The foods are really delicious and awesome. The sitting area is good. Great portions. Have a visit.
Excellent biryani, mutton stew & mutton rezala. Must try!!
Biryani is really good here.
Amazing biriyani and halim
First of all I would like to say thanks (Jamal bhai) the best place to eat if you are in mood for haleem and firni ,with superb hygiene, the quality offered is great too.though a little tough on the wallet,it almost makes up for it with its pleasing of the appetite.

Aliah is 1 place I n eating from my childhood if u ever ask me for the best chicken chap in kolkata I will always say aliah Biryani r also good compare to price n quantity it's totally worth it they do have AC dining available section too
Best Hyderabadi biriyani in Kolkata, this tastes so good that you will crave again and again for their Hyderabadi biriyani, other biriyani also tastes good , but their kababs are a little dry than normal
In my personal opinion this is one of the most luscious biriyan in Kolkata. It just melts in your mouth in a second! The exotic aroma can get your tastebuds go swalalala.. 😍😂
It was not too much oily, atleast the plate were not soaking wet from oil after we finished. The piece of chicken was very soft and tender. And lastly,i love the behaviour of their staffs. The delivery is always prompt.
I’m sure Aliah won’t disappoint you,go ahead and try it if you are near esplanade.
Best biriyani in town... Went there since my childhood in every pujo... Their biriyani are just 🔥🔥🔥🔥... Try their chicken rezala along with nan.... They make it just wow
Yesterday on the Christmas eve I and my friend went here caz we are craving for good biryani. Here we ordered Mutton Biriyani- ₹ 225 and Mutton Tikka (1 piece) ₹100. According to me Biriyani was not so tasty compare to their price. I have eate much more tasty Biriyani with less price. Tikka was tasty but much oily. I think it should be much tastier with this range of price.
One of the best restaurant in Kolkata, purity of food
After haveing a hungry tummy for the whole day...we reached here...& as a Biriyani lover ordered the Biriyani...I must say the service was very prompt & fast..Taste wise the Biriyani was good...I didn't find any speciality in it...but it was yummy....Biriyani lovers definitely should try this...quantity was ok...I'm not a ambience lover person but the ambience was also nice...
Food is good
Mutton keema is yummy
Good place and good ambience
Food tastes good 🤩🤩😍😍💓💓
Great environment
Love the food😍😍😍😍😍😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
My One stop destination for Briyani and chap hunger for last 25 yrs+ ...Now they have added a ac division too for the friends and families to enjoy their food a definite try for Briyani lovers.
In search of classy restaurants with hifi outlooks and all,we tend to miss places which are the hidden jems in this city.
New Aliah Hotel is such a place where you might not get all the glams and glitters but you will surely get some mouth watering foods.
The restaurant is quite hygienic with clean culinaries and promt service.
They also have an AC dining area on the 2nd floor.
Had their chicken chap and mutton khosha with tandoori rooti and it tasted amazing.
It is one of my favourite mughlai restaurant. I ordered Biryani, Lachha paratha, Chicken chaap, Tandoori and Firini. All are awesome. Never miss their chaap and paratha combo...Biryani is also yaam....
New aliah restaurant is located in Bentinck street near k.c dass, esplanade is somewhat famous but at the same time is hidden among the glitters of posh cafes. Divided into both ac and non ac sections, aliah offers an array of top notch mughlai dishes with sober ambience and good behaviour. I have literally grown eating in aliah every time when in esplanade. Most of the staffs are atleast working for 20 years there providing polite service. We had:
1) Chicken Reshmi Kabab (rs255)- At an unbelievable price they offer 6 quite large piece of soft kababs with correct amount of spice, salad and green chutney.
2) Tandoori roti (Rs17)- I can bet no posh or fine dine or even a five star restaurant can offer authentic tandoori roti. Soft as hell, thick, smooth and lip smacking.
3) Mutton qeema (Rs145)- Chunks of succulent mutton pieces on red spicy gravy slightly oily but damn tasty.
Highly recommended
This place was in our bucket list for a long period of time. Finally we went there yesterday. The place was crowded and the waiters there had a hard time responsing to every customer's wish but somehow they expertly managed that.
We orderd both chicken and mutton biriyani, roomali roti and chicken korma. The quantity of the food was enough for a person. The biriyani smelled good and each item was served hot. Every item tasted delicious. This place was one of those few places where an egg is served with the biriyani. The chicken korma contained one large piece of chicken, one potato and also an egg. The chicken was tender and tasty enough.
As mentioned earlier the staff service is great and they do not take much time preparing your food. This place is very much recommended to all.
Visited this place few days back and ordered chicken tandoori, chicken rezala with tandoori roti and of course the mutton biriyani.
1.chicken tandoori-I had ordered the full chicken tandoori. The chicken was fully cooked,Soft, juicy and lip-smacking.
2.chicken rezala and tandoori roti-well the tandoori roti really does not want anyone to compliment it. The roti was so soft that it was just melt in my mouth and the gravy of the rezala one word last wow.
3.mutton biriyani - I loved the biriyani also so aromatic and and well cooked
, mutton was soft full of flavor the potato was cooked with perfections.
I am recommending this place 😉 to all for at least one visit
This is one of the oldest restaurant of Kolkata situated in Bentinck Street near the Paradise Cinema Hall. Known for its Mughlai cuisine, it's a must visit for the Mughlai lovers. Here I have tried
1. Chicken Biriyani
2. Chicken Tikka Biriyani
3. Chicken Rezala
The taste is awesome but I guess the quantity of Biriyani should be slightly more.
Located just beside the income tax building.......
Food is very tasty, very nice.....We had there Mutton Biriyani....Mutton Tikiya....Two of the items were just superb....Very good in taste....Firni was also good in taste.....
What happens when the food is sooo damn tasty and you forget to click its pictures?!
*Sigh* I wish I could share those moments of utmost delicious food with you peeps! The chicken korma was absolutely lipsmacking! It's highly recommended.
I'm in love with their firni(70/-) . Aah! What goodness served with utmost love in clay saucers. It's definitely recommended from my side!
Do visit and enjoy the amazing ambiance and food! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Biriyani turns out to be an emotion for me. I can never say no to Biriyani. This was the first time I decided to visit the New Aliah Hotel & Caters to try out their delicious biriyani suggested to us by our friend, philosopher & guide. It was his favourite biriyani in the city of joy.
The aliah hotel is located right in the main road and you don’t have to look for it. The seating area is divided into two sections. The ground floor has the non-air conditioned seating but the first floor has air-conditioned seating.
Coming to the service, they have super fast service. Within 5 minutes your food would be delivered.
The biriyani was not only aromatic but well cooked, the chicken in the biriyani was soft, juicy and well cooked.
They have the best phirni in town. It was not like our regular phirni.
You should definitely try this place.
Will always be grateful to Aliah for introducing their firni in my life. That's the best firni in India, period. Also, the biryani is so so good it makes me croon everytime I eat it. Amazing consistency. One of the icons of Kolkata biryani places I would say.
Visited to this oldest and legendary restaurant for the first time,,located near paradise cinema hall..After having a perfect and satisfying lunch I realised that this place is a hidden gem for the North Indian and Mughlai cuisine..the place is famous for biriyani and different types of parathas with delicious gravy items..The items that I have ordered and satisfied my hunger are below-
Tandoori laccha paratha-It is a very soft and not so heavy paratha and can be easily eaten 2 with any type of gravy items..
Mutton kasha/stew- This item is extremley good in taste and not at all spicy..It has a rich taste of mughlai flavour..The pieces of mutton were very soft and this particular dish is a must try at this place..
Chicken korma-Though this item is very old and common for all of us but at this place, they serve this dish with a very different taste and flavour..They serve 1leg piece of chicken which is very tender and the item is very light..
Firni-After this heavy lunch, our tongue really needs something sweet😋So I ordered firni and trust me,I couldn't stop myself from gobbling the full plate of firni..The taste of firni was really unique compared to other places..
The items that I have mentioned is a must have at this particular restaurant..If you all want to gift your taste buds with some really different North Indian and Mughlai cuisine then you should definitely visit this place..Very satisfied with their food and service😊😊

Dishes are very good, environment and food quality, services all are nice👌👌,you can spend wonderful times with your close ones and family.
This place is famous for biriyani and awadhi dishes, located near Bentick Street. Their biriyani and firni are recommended dish. You can get the Old Calcutta feeling here. We had ordered mutton biriyani, chicken tikka butter masala and firni. Service is very fast and staffs are very much helpful.
This one is a hidden gem catering to office para. It is located very close to my office and therefore catching a bite here while on the go used to take place quite often. It has 2 sections with the 1st floor being air conditioned. With a limited set of items on offer, patrons here are mostly regulars who order the staple roti and chaap. Things to try out here would be Chicken Chaap and Tandoori Roti or the good ol' Biryani(Mutton is the personal favourite). But if you're looking to avoid the oily Chaap then you can try out their Rezala and team it up with Tandoori Roti. From the dessert section Firni is a crowd pleaser. During the holy month of Ramadan, this place serves Haleem(both chicken and mutton) which they run out of very fast. I have tasted their haleem and it measures up quite comfortably to the other more famous names in the city.
If you're a newbie trying to find this place, you can ask any local where this place is located or you can take the following tags and navigate your way with the help of Google Maps.
>Paradise Cinema/Aaykar Bhawan/CESC Building located at Esplanade. Take the road to the left heading towards Bentinck Street.
>get down at the Lalit Great Eastern and take the lane beside it and walk down till you locate this place.
Perfect Combination of Taste.

The New Aliah Hotel is best go and visit.
When it comes to Biryani, New Aliah is definitely a name that has come up if you're in Kolkata. It's one of the oldest places that is well known for it's Biryani and it keeps on maintaining that name with it's performance even today.
Speaking of Ambience, there isn't much to talk about. The place is quite spacious ; segemented into two floors, the ground being Non a/c and the upper being A/c. Decor is pretty basic I'd say, the upper floor has a nice view but apart from that, it's nothing extravagant or eye catchy. Seats are considerable, you won't have to wait to find a place and once you do, it is nice and comfortable.
Service is fine too, Food comes over pretty quickly and the staff are quite experienced so delays aren't usual.
Coming to Food, I love it ! The Biryani is actually quite good over here, so are their Chicken Chanp and Chicken Qorma. I like their Rotis too and ofcourse, the Phirni is a treat. At rare occasions, minor things do go off track such as salt or spice but otherwise, the Food here is pleasant and worthwhile.
What I've had :-
FOOD :
1. Chicken Biryani - must try
2. Chicken Bharta - was a tad bit salty, nothing distracting
3. Chicken Chanp - must try, personal favourite
4. Chicken Qorma - must try
5. Tandoori Roti - it's actually pretty good, must try
6. Phirni - lovely as usual
Overall, this place is a must visit for Biryani lovers. Even if you're not, their Rotis and Curries are quite good and definitely worth a try. Recommended from my end.
Mouth watering North Indian dishes at very reasonable price right in the heart of the city. This is an age old restaurant that saw renovation and beautification yet the taste of the biriyanis and champs remain one of the best in town. Must haves are the biriyani, chicken reshmi butter masala, chicken champ and mind blowing FIRNI. They make the best firnis of Kolkata in my opinion and often I have parcelled just firnis from here on the way home. Service is good and prompt. Waiting time is less. On an average day it is very crowded yet the food remains perfectly cooked and delicious. The upstairs AC portion is very clean and pretty.
The best place for biriyani in Kolkata. The biriyani is so good, less oil. Located in near paradise cinema.I ordered fast time from this restaurant and the experience is very good.😊😊👌👌
One of the oldest and legendary eatery in Kolkata. Had first been here with my father and tried their chicken rezala with rumali roti. And was tasty to and how. Their rezala brings me back here all the time. Their warm hospitality and food together makes it one of the must visited place.
A good Mughlai cuisine in Esplanade . We tried the mutton korma and biriyani each of which was good ,tasteful and filling. In the end we had firni another delicacy of mughlai dessert.
Located at the corner of Bentinck Street and Waterloo Street this restaurant has been around for many many years. They now have an upstairs air conditioned section, which is more upmarket than downstairs. The MUTTON BIRYANI here is always lightly spiced and non oily. Meat is tender and the potato melts in your mouth. Additionally tried the MUTTON CHAAP which was fragrant and well cooked. The PARATHA was light and non greasy.
Waterloo street এ ঢোকার মুখেই এই Restaurant টি অবস্থিত। Ambience আহামরি না হলেও ভালো। আমরা order দি.....
🔰Special mutton biriyani
🔰 Chicken tandori
🕎overall review:- 8/10
Aliah was always a favourite since decades for its Biriyani, always used the takeaway route as there was no decent sitting accommodation earlier...but now they have pretty decent air-conditioned family section on the first floor. I went there for the first time and was impressed with everything , including the courteous staff...except for the stair case which goes straight up..... :)
For a change, didn't have biriyani, but tried another old favourite - the Mutton Stew ( it is actually Mutton Kasha) along with Lachcha paratha - both were pretty good. Chicken Reshmi kebabs were good as well. Overall, a first time dine-in experience at Aliah was fully successful.
Chicken and mutton biryani are mind blowing.
Meat is so juicy and tender, that it falls apart as soon as you hold it.
This is one of the best Biryanis I have ever had in Kolkata
Went there occassionally with my colleagues.. seating arrangement is huge..upper floor is ac section.. ordered chicken reshmi kebab, biriyani, mutton stew, phirni etc..
Mutton stew and phirni are must try here..other dishes are also good..
Yesterday visited this place for dinner.
Divided into two portions, upper portion is for family which we chose to sit & dine.
Moderately decorated upper area was olmost empty may b it was early for the dinner time.
We ordered : Mutton Biryani & Phirni along with green salad and cold drinks.
Must say their biryani quantity is huge. 1 plate of biryani is sufficient for two.
Phirni was okeish. Nothing special.
Service was prompt .
I tried their mutton kassa, chicken haleem, mutton biriyani and laccha parantha....The taste was good but their stuff service have to improve
A pocket friendly restaurant... We randomly selected the restaurant on our way.. Quick service..
We had chicken biryani.. It was very light and less oily and the chicken was so soft and tender..
The biryani quantity was enough for two people
And it tasted good as well..
This was a very random place we picked up for eating out cause we were way too hungry after our works. We could smell biriyani even feets away from the place. Its spacious and the staffs cordially greeted us. We readily ordered Chicken Biriyani and the service was prompt. And now coming to the taste, it felt heaven. The first spoon of rice gave that essense which many top Biriyani Houses couldn't provide! And it was so less oily.. All the Best ahead.
we have ordered special mutton biriyani and chicken tandoori .
Mutton biryani- consist of two potato ,two pcs of mutton n one egg...tastes great n full of flavour.
chicken tandoori-nicely cooked n tasty..
Nice ambiance with polite staff.. hygiene maintained... Taste was really good and pocket friendly.. I will recommend people to be there and taste their tandoori chicken and kebabs.. Sourajit Dey Tapader
I ordered fast time from this restaurant and the experience is very good.
I ordered chicken jalfrizi, garlic naan and kabali naan.
All items are receiving in a piping hot state.
Chicken jalfrizi : I tried this jalfrizi for fast time,it's very well cooked with raw spices and kaju and harbs.not so spicy not so sweet.
Garlic naan : soft and hot.
Kabali naan : dressed with cherry flakes.soft and hot.
This is an age old eatery situated at Bentic Street. It has two floors. The ground floor is like any ordinary Muglai Eatery of the city, while the first floor is much more decorated with interiors done. I have been coming over here since my young days, accompanied by my father, mostly. So, lots of nostalgia associated with this place. The ground floor were we would sit has not changed much..albiet food has become costly, as it would with changing time. My favourite is mutton/ chicken Rezalla and roti / naan. And one of myust have on any visit to the Chandni Area or New Market shopping.
delivery was in veryyyyy good time😉
We had takeaway so cannot comment on the service nor the ambience. It is an age-old eatery in esplanade. We ordered a chicken biriyani and a mutton biriyani. The food was delicious, quantity adequate and packaging was good. Would like to visit this place once.
Awesome .....wow....wow.....food is very spicy and testy.......I ordered Hariyali Kabab, Spcl Chicken biriyani, Chicken varta and Firni. Total exp near 900/- only.....good experience and enjoy it.
Very Good atmosphere . Looks like a cabin.
The taste of the food is very good. But a little bit costly.
Had dinner from here with family, we ordered chicken biriyani, kulcha, kadai chicken, Raitha, kulcha and kadai chicken was superb, chicken biriyani was average , i felt like price range was bit higher ,
This centrally located restaurant offers moderate-priced dishes, making it an appealing choice for budget-conscious diners. The menu boasts a decent variety of options to satisfy different tastes. The food quality is generally good, with well-presented dishes and generous portions.
However, parking can be a challenge, so it's advisable to plan accordingly. The staff is generally attentive, and the ambiance is pleasant. If you don't mind the parking issue, it's worth a visit for a satisfying and reasonably priced meal.

Overall, New Aliah Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Indian dining experience.
This is a very old restaurant which is still fresh like a fine wine. The biriyani they serve are very light weighted aroma free biriyani which tastes heavenly. The people who are serving the dishes are very efficient. The ground floor is non ac but very airy and has lots of seats. The upper floor is fully air conditioned. I had ordered chicken biriyani which cost me under 300. Even mutton biriyani is under 300. The pieces of chicken and mutton are soft and juicy. The firni they serve are much better than what arsalan serves. One must really visit this place. It is an iconic place for kolkata biriyani! ❤
Food are very good. I think best biriyani in Kolkata. But service is not up to the mark
Visited them during the pujas. The restaurant was super crowded so had to sit in the non ac section. Their service is really good, the staffs are very much courteous. The food was served very quickly as soon as we ordered.
Although half of the dishes were not available on the day we visited. We tried chicken and Mutton Biryani, the Biryani tasted really good the potato was soft and Mutton was soft and succulent. Overall had a good experience.
I tried chicken biryani salad and cold drinks. Food is tasty but price is too high. Stuffs are well behaved care take good care for your needs, in exchange they want small tips.
Overall a 4 🌟 experience.
Taste of food is marvellous.very good service of the restaurant.staff behaviour is also very good. problem is that they are not accepting online payment. location is also very good. Both AC and Non AC dinning place is available.
New Aliah Restaurant is famous for biryani and it has a good ambience. We visited this place for lunch🍗🍗.
We ordered Chicken Biryani and Salad ,the Chicken Biryani included one potato and egg.
The quality of biryani was very tasty .The size of chicken was also good but less spicy and the quantity was only sufficient for one person.
The first floor 🪜were dedicated to Air Conditioner which costs you an addition of 5% GST.
The service at the restaurant is fast and quickly receives the order and staff behavior also polite😊😊
The payment option of Cash💷 ,Dabit Card💳 and Credit Card available but Gpay and phone pay option not available.
Overall experience hope to visit again and try some more dishes.
Thanking you
1) First thing I noticed about this place is their cleanliness. I have visited most of the old mughlai restaurants in Kolkata. The one thing that cringes me out is the stickiness of table chairs in most old restaurants.
2) Now, when it comes to the food, I liked the mutton keema most, most of restaurants can't keep the balance of taste in mutton keema. But New Aliah does.
Though I couldn't taste their biriyani this time, will surely try next time.
As per my foody eyes & nose, I am sure, it will be delicious too..
Visiting this place since late 90's. My father started bringing biryani during his office days.
My most favourite place for Biryani and chicken chaap until now !!!
I have to say I was impressed with the food quality and service. I ordered some butter naans along with chicken reshmi Kebab. The quality was really good. The naan was soft, and definitely well made. The reshmi Kebab was also pretty well made, tasted very good. The service was also commendable, keep up the good work.
Biriyani tastes good. Chicken resmi butter masala is also good. But chicken bharta is too salty. The atmosphere is also very good. Butter nun serves hot on the table. Service is also good. Food coming on the table within 10-15 minutes after ordering.
Very near to Esplanade metro. 1st floor is ac. Ambiance ok but food is of good. Taste of biriyani , chicken chap and murg massalam was awasome. But I think they use vegetable oil dalda which is not good for health.
