You haven't truly lived in Kolkata if you have not tried the famous Golbari Mutton kosha. This place and this particular dish is engraved in each and every Bengali that has ever stepped foot at the iconic Shyambazar Five point area. I still remember walking by this place every day when returning from school and smelling all the wonderous dishes being prepped up here from a distance.

Golbari, one of the renowned food cabins of Old Calcutta. It's heritage and cultural values speak for itself. It is one of the places you need to visit when you're in Kolkata. At Golbari the favoured food is Mutton Kasha and Paratha and of course their Biriyani. It's must stop for any foodie.
I had ordered a Devil Chop while waiting for the favoured dish. But there are a few aspects that I did not like. The devil chop was not tasteful, it had more masala than the original Chop. The crunch is fine but the inside is not that great. To have the renowned dishes you need to visit this place at 6:30 or just after that. While visiting the place you have to keep in mind the rich culture because the food is not worth price you will paying for it. It is costly for the food that they offer. The quality is not upto the standard it had before. Cheers and Happy Eating! ❤️

Famous as per their name. Never failed to get amazed with Mutton Kosha Golbari serves. A must try by every Kolkatan. Though Chicken Kasha is not that bad but Mutton Keema is too good to eat. I have been there recently to celebrate my Bday.

Ah! Finally we visited this oldest restaurant in North Kolkata... Here we ordered the famous mutton kasa & parathas... As expected mutton kasa was extremely oily... However, parathas are not like lachchha... Overall as a mutton lover I love this restaurant...

Due to some reason or other was not getting time to have from here but last week had some work at Shyambazar and that was it. Went in at the lunch time and ordered the famous mutton kasha along with 2 parathas. It was served within 5 mins with onion and a bit of tamarind chutney. I started eating it and was lost somewhere the whole time till I finished my meal. Their quality is still so consistent and it's the best mutton kasha ever.

That's all folks, until next time.. :)

Childhood memories of being crammed into this little smokey place with almost little no no space between you and your fellow hungry neighbour. The weird chutney, suspiciously black and unlike anything that you have ever seen, or tasted, manages to add that perfect zing to the first bite of the porotha dipped in the sinfully rich gravy.

One of the heritage food joint of north kolkata. If one starts describing the best foods of north kolkata rather kolkata ; I'm sure golbarir kosha mangsho would be there! Nothing to say about ambiance etc. Beacause this place is not for that 5 star dinning experience. It's a really small joint. But the one and only amazing part for which one should visit here is the food only!!

🔴FOOD:
We ordered:
🔺egg devil
🔺fish fry
🔺parantha
🔺mutton curry(kosha mangsho)

The food was absolutely delicious nothing to say about it! Fish fry and egg devil was good enough. Just how authentically served in kolkata. The kosha mangsho was just to die for!😻

🔴Price and portion: Fish fry-80/- ; Egg devil-38/- ; parantha(each):11/- ; mutton kosha:239/-

In my opnion mutton kosha portion is a bit little according to the price.

This place is famous for their mutton kosha. The place is not so big, very small amount of space to sit and ambience is not so good but their service is very fast. We took Mutton kosha with paratha and also took their mutton breast cutlet and mutton chop. Food Rating is 3/5 but their service is 5/5.

This place is right in front of the five-point Shyambazar crossing and has a legacy of its own. This is one of the oldest running restaurants in the whole city. Though the place is cramped and small, you cannot complain when you have the food here.

The owners are quite welcoming and helpful and you cannot argue over the quantity of these delicacies.

Ambience: 3/5
Service: 4/5
Quality: 5/5
Quantity: 5/5
Value for money: 5/5

Happy dining!

During puja going for lunch with a friend ..
The resturant stands on the Shyambazar 5th point crossing...

Looks and feel : 3 out of 5, they a small size of place. It is not well decorated. The table was also not so big.

Service : 4 out of 5, service was good, the guys were helpfull too and the food was well served

Food : So this is the main part. Apart from everything, the food was excellent. We ordered Mutton kasa and Paratha. The Mutton Kosa was excellent. It was very delicious and was perfectly cooked. Any foodie lover can try out this place.

5 out of 5 for the Mutton Kosa

A vintage joint. A must visit for any bengali, food lover, mutton lover. This name is synonymous and known mainly for their famous paratha and kasha mangsho( mutton ). The mutton is cooked well and rich. So remember that its sinful. But complementary to that is paratha which isn't that oily or rich and therefore best compliments the mutton. Pocket pinch is famous. The space is very small and quite cramped. But this isnt a place for theme dinning so that mustn't bother you.

Golbari: A legendary outlet serving one of the best Kosha Mangsho in the city. Golbari, an unassuming eatery tucked away in the legendary Shyambazar area of Old Calcutta, is not just a place to dine; it's a living legend. Situated on the edge of the iconic Shyambazar 5-point crossing, this century-old establishment has stood the test of time, serving its legendary Kosha Mangsho to hungry souls across generations. Originally named New Punjabi Restaurant, the affectionate moniker "Golbari" emerged due to its semicircular building, and despite its Punjabi roots (established by Ratan Arora), this eatery has seamlessly woven itself into the cultural fabric of Kolkata. As a melting pot of diverse cultures and cuisines, Golbari has become a cherished institution, celebrated for its age-old culinary traditions. Upon entering Golbari, one is transported into a bygone era, where disciplined queues await their turn to partake in the serious business of savoring Golbari's legendary Kosha Mangsho and Parantha combo. The mutton gravy, a work of culinary art, boasts a dark hue, a velvety texture, and an explosion of mouthwatering masala flavors that linger on the palate. The star of the show, Kosha Mangsho, is served with perfectly paired paranthas, onion salad, and a tangy tamarind chutney that elevates the entire culinary experience. While some might find the paranthas a tad oily and stretchy, the savory delight of the Kosha Mangsho compensates, leaving taste buds in sheer pleasure with every bite. The humble surroundings and traditional setup add authenticity to the dining experience, making Golbari a haven for those seeking a genuine taste of Kolkata's culinary heritage. The juxtaposition of cultures in this eatery reflects the spirit of Kolkata itself – diverse, accepting, and deeply rooted in tradition. Golbari is more than just a place to eat; it's a nostalgic journey through time, a tribute to the enduring spirit of Kolkata's culinary landscape. For anyone looking to indulge in the soulful embrace of flavors, Golbari is a must-visit destination that promises not just a meal, but an unforgettable experience steeped in history and taste.

Great 👍 place to visit in Kolkata for food lovers. Food quality is awesome. I love the mutton kosha. The taste of this dish is very authentic and aroma is just wow. Loved it. The shop space is very low that is a negative point. But who loves mutton try it here.

This place has a legacy of serving good cooked mutton in there own style. The mutton is cooked well tastes awesome and has a very good aroma to bewilder ur senses. The only drawback is the place is very congested but then for good food food lovers can go to any extent.. They serve mutton with rice, with Paratha and u also have a variety of choice such as mutton chop , mutton cutlet and so on. They serve mutton as kassa , keema, liver fry and few other items. Location can be traced with Google maps. Kindly give a thumbs up 👍 if u liked the review and did benefit from it👉👍

It was good, litre overhyped as mutton kasha though tastes good but it's extremely oily and when whole India accepted UPI they are still relying on only hard cash, no UPI , no card. Rest is fine

I ordered the famous black gravy mutton curry, mutton cutlet and mutton chop. We went to the place at 2.30 pm and we were mind boggled seeing the crowd. It took us around 25 min to get a seat and our order. But after having the food, we came to the conclusion that it was worth the waiting time. We just loved the food and the way the owner had modified the dining area to accommodate maximum persons at a time. Though a small place, best utilisation of space for business purpose. Neat n clean and very tasty food. A "MUST TRY" place if u r in Kolkata

Not a good place to dine in. Very little space to sit and eat. And it also seems to be a little unhygienic place to eat. But the good news is that 'The kosha mangsho was enjoyable'. Food parcel Recommended.

Golbari situation at 5-point crossing, Shyambazar is one of the oldest food places of North Kolkata. The place has very small sitting of around 12-15 people and its entirely non-ac. Coming to food, we went their last month, their mutton curry was quite good however the parathas were too thin. Their fish fry was also good but the "pickle" served with the mutton and paratha was too "sour" 😐. However, in my opinion every item is bit overpriced in this food joint.

Be an early bird to fulfill your needs. This place really gets crowded due to its famous chicken& meat dishes. However, I like their breads (roti) often tried out with "The kosha recipes". Keep your time in your hand for the a la karte experience with your family or friends. Spaces for sit & dine are rigid on occasions. Thankyou
