A much known place in Kolkata, At chandni market is Chung Wah! Usually a bar but the the quality of food here is also superb.
We ordered pork noodles and Beers.
Trust me if you are good to have pork then the pork noodles they offer is absolutely superb.The quantity is also sufficient for 2 atleast and by ordering 2 plates you can have 3 people easily.The beers are also at normal rates.
The setback being its ambience and the extremely long waiting time for food, as they have a huge crowd almost throught out the day.

This is my first visit to Chung Wah.You can say the first experience of cabin style restaurant.The location is is just beside Chadni Chowk Metro(gate 2).We ordered Spicy roasted chilli pork,hot golden prawn tossed in spicy sause,garlic chicken dry.The pork was too good. All three items are lip-smacking.But the sweet corn soup was not so good. Instead of sweet corn, they gave normal corn.They gave us a plate of namkeen and it has a strand of hair.
So, this is a restaurant having cabins. When we (me & my bf) reached, we were told that we could have cabin only for an hour (Rs.1000/hr).The first question that striked on my mind "এক ঘন্টায় অতো তাড়াতাড়ি খাব কি করে?" Then I understood that cabins are not meant for partying aur boozing. So,we sat outside.
Coming to the food, we ordered two bottles of beer, roasted dry chilli pork, schezwan prawn (dry) & chung wah special noodles (haka style). There are plenty of fat pieces in the chilli pork.taste is awesome, undoubtedly. But in my opinion, fat pieces should be less. The rest two items were also too good.
Ambience is too bad. Our bill was approx Rs.1200.

This place is located just behind chandi chowk metro station gate. They're famous for their pork delicacies out of which FRIED ROAST PORK CHILLY is the best. Dried roasted pork fried stir fried in light soy sauce and chillies 😍♥️. Quantity was enough for two. Just don't think of the calories 😂
If you want anything lighter in starters then you should try chicken noodle soup. It's so nice and light absolutely yummy and tasted like thukpa with crunchy veggies and lots of chicken in a luscious chicken broth. It was enough for two.
In maincourse I had chicken fried rice with can.hot.chicken. The fried rice was good and enough with quantity, two people can finish. Can hot Chicken was amazing the chicken were tender and big sized, 6pieces in a plate.
Coming to ambience the space in enough big. They have cabin like system inside with different seating capacities and as well as normal seating. The only snag was that the cabins stenched a little weird. The staff were obliging and friendly with their service.
Chung Wah you are a delight. I loved their Chung Wah special fried rice. It was soo good. Their roasted pork chilli is really lip snacking and their hot prawn is to die for.. The staffs are helpful,the taste and the quantity of the dishes are good and also pocket friendly, o

I have a deep emotion attached with this bar cum restaurant. Went there with great expectations. First to comment on is the ambience- beautiful and soothing,perfect for couples. Coming to food, we ordered dry chilli fish, egg fried rice, chicken hakka noodles and a chicken mushroom gravy item. All of them were delicious and carrying the perfect flavours of indo-chinese delicacy... Recommended...

One of the heritage place with cabins, named with reference to Kabiguru. Location is good. Just outside chadnu chowk metro. Chilli pork is the best item. Noodles is also good. Pocket friendly.
The food and the service is just perfect and even after years of existence it still has the same mood, amazing food and some memories that'll make you visit again. The prices on the other hand are extremely affordable.
AMBIENCE:
This place is something that captures the notion of Calcutta heritage along with the sese of early China town. It is said to be one of the first set up by the Chinese community in Kolkata. When you enter through it's gates you'll find yourself clenched in the later 1900's, the vibe of this is something you'll struggle to find in a modern pub, lounge or bar. I would love to visit again.
Gone there for my favorite combo of Beer + Pork. and they didn't disappointed me.
Boozes are cheap and dry chilli pork is heaven. Ambience is good, it have some old kolkata vibe to it.
If you are in the area and need some alcohol and good Chinese then definitely opt for this place!!!

One of the best pork places in town!! Though any kind of food is great here!! This is a bar and restaurant!! I have been here for ... I don't really remember for how many times, just because of their pork 🔥❤️. There behaviour is good and please try to sit in the cabins.
One of the best place I have ever visited. Loved the ambiance. Feels like the old but golden days. Authentic Chinese food. Food quality is really good. And the quantity is huge. The fish fingers we ordered, was probably the best one I had in my entire life. The fish they used was superb quality, just melted into the mouth. Would love to visit again.

The food tasted really good. All the items were perfectly cooked.
I loved the pork.
It still has old cabin systems also. The prices were very moderate and quantity was also really good.
Would love to visit again.

Ambiance: They still have the cabin system. Place was pretty clean and maintained.
Food: I found the food to be pretty good. We took one dry roasted chilli pork and one dry chilli chicken. Both of them tasted really good. No complaints regarding that.
Service: Even service was good and they will ask for extra tip for the service too xD. Anyway, things were cordial.
I might go again if am in that area in need of food and some drinks.
Try their chili fish preparation with gravy or dry, believe me,the quality of the fish and the taste of d dish is awesome.Mixed haka noodles will perfectly complement the above mentioned preparation.

Yesterday we ordered from here. Quantity as per price is good. Food tastes also nice but it can be better. Good to see they they are maintaining their legacy quiet an extent.

This is my favourite place in town for pork. They taste damn good and I am a big fan of this place. Their mixed noodles with pork and chilli pork is a match madein heaven and I have never got tired of it. Also the quantity is huge and enough to fill up two people. The prices are also feasible and nothing over the top.
It has got this old kolkata feel with little cabins around where you can sit with your friends and family and enjoy your meal privately.
A must visit if you are a pork and noodle lover.

Well..How to start...Sometimes when you feel claustrophobic in the artificial exoticness of newly opened restaurants of Kolkata and you need to run away from that.. this is the place you should head to..You won't find anything fancy here..No one to open the door for you..No one to adjust the chair for you..No one trying to impress you unnecessarily showing how fluent they speak english..Nd that's what makes you feel like home..You feel comfortable..You can be yourself..Let's get started with the review now.....
Ambience--as i mentioned earlier ..Ambience makes you feel like home..But it would have been better with a bit more lighting..It's kinda little bit dark inside..Nd yeah a bit more cleanliness would have been highly appreciated..

Staff behaviour--nothing artificial..you call the waiters..They just take your orders..deliver as soon as they can..Serve you..And departs..Just functional..the way you like it..A smiling face and lesser delivery time would have been preferred.....4/5
Food quality--the USP of the restaurant..ordered chilli chicken(dry) and chilli pork as starters..And trust me on this..Both were soooooooo good..Chicken was so tender...Melted in the mouth..One of the best chilli chicken i have ever tasted..Nd chilli pork was mesmerizing..At main course had chicken noodles and chop suey...First of all..The quantity..Both the noodles and chop suey was so high on quantity ..We 3 actually had to struggle to finish the dishes..Well again ..The taste..Noodle was really good..Liked it...And the chop suey..I still remember its taste even after 1 month(been there on 12th feb)..It had the perfect balance of everything..Be it crunchiness or or the thickness of the soup..Right amount of sweetness mixed with spicy flavour..I kid you not...The best chop suey of kolkata...

So I visited this place on 25th December 2018. It was full crowded and got seated for about waiting 30 minutes.
Once we got seated we ordered the following:
🔥Mixed Noodles (with pork): it tastes good and freshly made
🔥Chilly Pork: OK so the pieces were juicy and spicy
🔥Mixed Noodles (without pork): it tastes same
🔥Mixed Fried Rice: it had a lot of prawns, chickens in it both quality and tastes good
🔥Schezwan Chicken: I just loved this dish, it had a large boneless pieces of chicken perfectly tossed and served. It was spicy and would recommend to all spice lovers.
🔥Garlic Chicken Dry: it was non spicy dish and tastes light and was good too.
Overall the best thing is it was served hot and fresh and the quantity was sufficient enough for two people.

Ever since I visited this old guy three years ago I totally became a fan of this place. For those who don't know it is located at Chandni Chowk just behind the north gate of Chandni Chowk metro. The entrance is pretty omitted with an enormous door being closed all the time. But just enter the gate and ahh, you can feel the breeze of Colonial Calcutta.
There are beautiful cabins, probably six to eight bearing beautiful abstract names like ভালোবাসা, বন্ধু etc for cosy couples or people searching for secrecy. There are many tables situated in the entryway and there is a small open cabin which situated just right side at the entrance, which was previously used by those who want to smoke along with their drink. I used to prefer that the most.
And here is the best thing, though it is mainly a bar they are too good at their food also. You can order from an array of options available, from Chinese to Indian to Mughlai. But as the name suggests they are best for there Chinese dishes. lemon chicken, chicken omelette are sensational and the dry chilli chicken is my personal favourite.
The drinks are super cheap served in retro style glasses to fit the mood.
It is must try who has not done yet.
Value for money! Ambience is total 70's & will only get a cabin if u'r a min. Group of 4. But absolutely awesome taste with a variety of beer collection.

This is one of the hidden gems of Central Kolkata. Been there for ages and has lot of stories surrounding it.
Food and Drinks(4.5/5)- We went primarily for drinks and a 660ml Budweiser and JW Red Label 60ml. The beer was chilled and the Red Label was as fine as it could be(very less water mixed, almost pure,so pretty good). We also had Chilly pork which is undoubtedly one of the best Chilli porks I ever had. They also gave some chaknas with the drinks which was good. Only thing was that many of the listed drinks were not available specially the beer. Otherwise amazing food and drinks.
Ambience (3.5/5): Shady to say the least. Pretty shady place but you wouldn't mind at all if you are on a date. But even if you are,I don't think you would like to dine a room with curtains- the whole concept appeared a little weird in my opinion. Barring that,the place and the gates were decorated well and the tables without the privacy (curtains) had a pretty good ambience.
Service (4/5): Service was decent. Staff were courteous, water and ice were served more or less regularly. The pork took 20min around to be prepared, which was a bit more than I expected. But overall,decent service.
Value for money (4.5/5): This place had good value for money. The chilli pork at 200 was very pocket friendly considering the quality and quantity. The beer was a little above the sticker price(which is completely ok) and the Red Label 60ml at 340 was a good deal compared to other bars and pubs in Kolkata. Overall,this place has excellent value for money(atleast among the dishes/drinks I tried).
Will surely visit this place again and try their other Chinese dishes and other hard drinks maybe.

Been here 3 times. Got a variety of beer choices. And awesome dishes. Specially their chung wah's spacial. Mind blowing. But ambience is not at all pub like. will only get a booth for party of 4 or more. Really good place for hungry people. Bt the ambience is really a buzz killer.
The best time to visit our would be afternoon,the food is freshly made. And the food here definitely does not burn a hole in the pocket. Must try: Fried chilli pork, and chungwah special mixed chowmein ❤❤❤❤

We had ordered chilli pork, a chicken dish (I seem to have forgotten which one, lmao) and a couple of beers. All in all, it's a decent place to grab a bite and have a drink with your friends, especially if you're in college and broke, as it is quite pocket friendly. It's the ambience that will make up for your effort...trust me, you will not be disappointed!

Quality of food was good!
The restaurant feels like its a little old, however i liked the ambience. Delivery was fast and quantity too was more or less good!
Even though we don't visit this place for dine in, for past many many years have been a fan of their Fricassed Prawn Chow and Chilli fish. Once in a while do a take away of this item. So much so that whenever they see me, they know what my order will be.
Reducing one star since the since the ambiance is a non family ambiance.

Please do not go to any of the old Chinese restaurants in Calcutta for so-called 'authentic' food. They serve wholesome Indian Chinese (more Indian than Chinese!) that taste good and are easy on the pocket. You want authentic, please head for China. Chung Wah is partially hidden by one of the exits of the Chandni Chowk Metro Station. A bright red board announces their name and is very hard to miss. The interiors are cool but basic. Very red tables are lined in a row down the centre. Cabins run along both sides of the restaurant. We chose to sit in the centre and converse with people around. The waiters have worked here forever, manager comes to the table with a peg measure to pour drinks and the food is greasy Chindian - just what we wanted! We ate Chilli Pork - one of the best in the city. Not very fatty pork not adulterated with onions and capsicum, this dish is just a play of flavours and one of their best sellers.
Chilli Chicken - decently flavoured, needs to be eaten quickly since the taste goes down when cold. Mixed Hakka Noodles - that plate of shiny noodles with crunchy vegetables along with chicken, prawn and pork. Mixed Fried Rice - well cooked and decently flavoured. Garlic Prawns - saucy, garlicky and succulent enough to keep us happy. Their portion sizes are massive and you would do well to go with a group.
One of the oldest Chinese joint in Calcutta and has its own unique style of food. I have always loved the Chinese food here especially their Prawn starters. The food is the best thing here, have tries noodles, fried rice, garlic fish, chilli chicken, fried prawn and hot prawns and enjoyed all of them. The price is reasonable.
The staff is pretty courteous but sometimes due to too much crowd they can seem busy at times.
The only negative thing that I found about this place was that they haven't made any major upgrades to the infrastructure. The rooms are still small with wooden chairs. The washrooms are not properly maintained. With so many modern restaurants cropping up in the city, they should really look at bettering their ambience.

They have good ambience, several coupes are there with different names which gives it a good looks. Specially the fish Finger with mayonnaise is served with french fries and salad is my personal favourite. The Chinese dishes are served well here
It was during Durga pujo we went to Chung wah. We ordered Fried rice , chowmein, chicken munchurian and honey chicken . Well firstly it is another famous and one of the old outlet of kolkata , started during the great Chinese influx in Kolkata. Now firstly , the ambience. It is old but you will fine the decor of past( that is not a luxury restaurant with fine dining). Having said that that is the reason Chung Wah still holds the charm. As they say some things be as they are, untouched. The hall is divided in to two segments the middle row consits. open dining and the other one has compartments like old restaurants in Calcutta which allows privacy. Now the food . Food is okay but not exceptional infact many places cook better Chinese (Indian Chinese ofcourse!). Fried rice was yum. dont order honey chicken ever from any restaurant. its like dilute honey cooked with meat. The experience was okay. It has drinking atmosphere so alcohol is there. Ticked off my bucket list.
This is the best place when talking about taste, Aroma, quality & quantity...! It is an absolute favorite! While it's best to enjoy Chung wah food in home delivery condition! I always loved this place ever since I came here with my grandfather long ago. And I think no other Chinese restaurant can beat their pork dishes.
I know I have a personal bias for this restaurant but it's bound to happen when you are this attached to something. It's a really good place for hard drinks and some Chinese food. You can come with your friends or your soulmate but it's not an ideal setting for the family!
All in all its a really wonderful place that you should try atleast once.
I've only ever had take away from this place. So far I've tried their "Fish Fingers" , "Golden Fried Prawns" and "Garlic Prawns". I recommend the fish fingers and golden fried prawns. They are soft , juicy and delectable. I think their golden fried prawns beats the kind available at park Street even , the whole prawn comes off smoothly with a slight tug at the tail and it's moist and juicy. Must try these items if you're ordering from this place . I find this place to be good for takeaways only.
Great place to be at if you're a big group seeking for some quality time along with alcohol. Unluckily, didn't get the wooden cabins due to power failure in that section. The food's great. Alcohol is reasonable. Good space inside for accommodating large groups. We were a group of 8 and the food cost us 2k, while alcohol costed 1.8k (60ml and 30ml for 7 people).
