One that makes a difference. From the ambiance to the food, everything was inch perfect. The best place to visit after a year life away from Kolkata.
As expected a class apart! Yet another culinary gem from the stables of the Neotias. Tasteful decor by Narayan Sinha retaining the old world charm teamed with excellent food and the best service in a restaurant i have experienced in recent times....and very easy on the pocket too! Move over Oh Calcutta and 6 Ballygunge Place, SONAR TORI has hit the City of Joy with its Bengali cuisine from epar & opar Bangla! Must visit

Terrific service, great ambience and awesome food.
Outstanding food quality. Lovely ambience, friendly service.
Perfect for bengali cuisine. Miles ahead of competitors.
Well, let me begin by saying that it was my wish to visit a pure bengali cusine during Poila boisak but this pandemic has slowed it down. But a foodie wont stop...ri8??so very recently I visited this place. It was very easy to locate. Its in second floor of CC1 ,saltlake. Now the first thing about this place which melted my heart was its pure bengali essence and those tagore's song, omg!!it was such an incredible feeling. There was a variety of menu though the prices were on a little bit higher side but that lipsmacking taste of those food matched the worth. The staffs were good enough though the service was little slow. But Ii would definately recommend. Try that "Sorse hilsa" its a must!!❤
went there with family after the pandemic restrictions eased out, very warm atmosphere and courteous staffs. we ordered for luchi, cholar dal, fish fry, chicken cutlet, prawn malaikari, mutton bhuna, ilish begun and rabri mihidana. out of this the mutton deserves special mention. the ilish was a bit let down for a great chef like my mother. they had added about 400 bucks as service charge which was waived off after request
**Sonar Tori is located at 4th floor, DC Block, City Center 1, Saltlake.
**Ambience- Proper Zamindari touch gives an outstanding look to it's interior. The sitting arrangement at the fine dining are is absolutely gorgeous. They have 3 PDRs (Private Dining Rooms) which is used for private group parties. One is the open PDR where visitors can use for smoking. Rests are the closed PDRs which are designed in a theme of dining halls of a royal palace. I am so attracted with this place.
**Food- I opted for their "ILISH UTSOV" menu which is available from 15th August to 14th September. In this course they serve different types of items of hilsa fish.
•From "ILISH UTSOV" I ordered for-
°°Ilish Macher Tikki- This is made with mainly boneless hilsa fish, smashed with onion, green chilli & other spices. It is served with onion salad & kasundi or mustard sauce.
°°Podda Nadir Majhider Ilish- This delicacy is a typical Bangladeshi cuisine which is observed among the fishermen of Bangladesh. Firstly, the big piece of hilsa is sauted into oil. Then cooked in a curry which is flavoured with onion, garlic, ginger, tomato & seasoned with a special masala. This is absolutely droolworthy!
°°Sonar Tori Ilish Platter- This jumbo thali includes-
^Gobindobhog Bhaat
^Macher Tel
^Ilish Bhaja
^Ilish Macher Tikki
^Pui Diyae Ilisher Matha
^Sorse Ilish
^Bhapa Sandesh (This baked sandesh has a prominent flavour of gondhoraj lemon)
•I also took some dishes from their A-La-Carte Menu-
°°Mutton Keema Chop- Minced mutton balls are dipped into egg batter, then coated with bread crumbs & finally deep fried into oil. Amazing.
°°Vetki Fish Fry- Fresh vetki fish fillet seanoned with kasundi/ mustard sauce. This is perfect for start your meal.
°°Daaber Icecream- It tastes like a real tender coconut. Simple yet beautiful texture! I am blown!
**Staffs Behaviour- Staffs were courteous & they always were mask, gloves, head caps which is impressive.
**This restuarant assembles different tastes of Bengali cuisine. Come & enjoy!

I have been planning to go to Sonar Tori for the longest of time but somehow it was always getting postponed. So I went to Sonar Tori in these pandemic times because I wanted to feel connected to something in pre covid times. So coming to safety first..they do a temperature check before you are allowed to enter and they write down the temperature in their register.
Coming to food; we ordered bhetki macher chop which was amazing and the fish was
fresh and didn't leave a after taste. For maincourse we ordered govindobhog rice , sonar moong dal ( which was thick ), aloo jhoori bhaja, begun bhaja ( they serve 6 big piece in single serve which is too much for two people, so be sure to ask about their quantity), katla korma and murgi kosha. The quality and the taste of food was amazing. The portion size was also sufficient. If you arent that much into carbs then one serve of rice will be enough. We literally were unable to finish two serves of rice. So portion size is good .
They serve in brass plates which gave this authentic rustic look..infact their entire decor is in brass which gives this entire a very rustic look. They have got a very relaxed atmosphere which makes it perfect for special occasions if you like to celebrate in that manner.
The price are on a bit higher end however one can spend once in while so as to experience the grandeur this place offers.
Happy Eating..☺️☺️
So where should I start from ? Everything about this place is amazing , starting from food to ambience to decor.
Hygiene and Sanitation was well maintained , by the staffs attending the customers and the people inside the kitchen too.
Food - 9/10
Decor - 8/10
Ambience -9/10
Price - 8/10
Ps- pics are from sources.
Thank you,
You must have liked my writeup or else you wouldn't have come this far , so please follow the Zomato account too. Xo
Had been eyeing this place since their inception! Had gone through quite a few decent reviews about this place - Sonar Tori based in City Center 1 - Sector 1, Saltlake!
Spotted them on the Swiggy app and ordered their Luchi + cholar dal + misti combo for delivery to my place and the overall experience was as expected!
Generally, combo meals are scarce in quantum, but that was not the case here – they served 4 pieces of luchi along with reasonable quantity of cholar dal as well!
Packaging is pretty nice – tamper proof and spill free! Cholar dal was pretty tasty as well – a tad sweet also! Expected luchi to be a bit more tender – may be owing to the delivery, it wasn’t as great as expected!
The hero of the meal was definitely the mini gulab jamuns in milkmaid – neither too warm, neither too cold – just the perfect temperature as well as texture! We indeed ended the meal on a sweet note!
Pocket pinch of Rs. 149 for this meal was definitely justified!
Cheers!
So visited this place before lockdown. The seating space is beautiful. The place remains mostly crowded during lunch and dining hours. The food is absolutely amazing- if you are looking for home made authentic bengali dishes this is your place! We ordered their buffet thali which comes with a variant of preparations starting from cholar dal to chicken. The quantity of one thali was more than one person to feast on.
The only problem was the service being slow. We had to call the staff members more than twice to ask them take our order. So if you have time in your hand and are craving for some good bengali dishes do give this place a visit!
Amazing food with amazing ambience .. lill expensive .. worth of Money
One of my best visited bengali restuarant. The ambience was excellent and the sound of setar wil make you more delightful. The food quality was excellent and they have unlimited system in thalis. We ordered mini thali which consists of 2 starters, 2 veg items, 2 non veg item, begun bajha, potol bajha , olu sedho, daal makha , cholar daal, fine basmati rice along with delicious baked sandesh, chutney, 3 types of papad and ice paan. They are maintaining safety measures to give you best service. High recommended for Bengali food lovers. It's better than any other known bengali restuarants in Kolkata.
The ambience was perfect with some lip smacking delicacies being served.
It's a "must visit" place if you really want to try bengali cuisine.
A bit premium if we go through their pricing but definitely they serve quality food.we tried mutton kosha, phulka, plain rice, daab chingri and mutton biriyani. All the items were really nice.
Nice ambiance and good food. Authentic Bengali cuisine. A mix of East and West Bengal food.
We ordered Bengali thali whih was like unlimited Non-veg starters and main course was luchi, aloo r Dam,chholar daal, lal shaag bhaja, plain rice, sweet polaou, chingri malai curry, chicken kosha, mutton curry, chutney and bel r ghol. 👍
Everything was perfect. Ambience, staff, food everything! A must must visit for Bengali cuisine lovers ♥️
The ambience is really good. The music was also nice. Staff were polite. Food was good. Overall a nice place.
This was on my list from a long time. Finally stepped into this place on 10th January 2020 for dinner. This place is excellent for Bengali food. The staff were all well behaved. Love the ambience. To all my bengalis and non-bengalis followers, you can visit this place any time you want . It will never bring dissatisfaction to you. This place is elligible for all types of tastebuds.😂
Sonar Tori is one of the authentic hub of exclusive bengali food and also a perfect place to get a feel of the historian period. It takes us way back to the period of the kings and queens and enriches the rich history of our country.. It reflects the beauty of the historic period and enlightens the way and feel of that period. Moreover, they uses bronze utensils to serve the food which is one of the kind which also adds to the feel of that period.. The food being served is of top notch quality and no compromise in taste. Last but not the least its a perfect place to visit and to get the ethinic feel of the historic times..
Thank you sonar tori ❤
Had in my bucket list. So finally went to this place on 14th February for a dinner date . The staffs service were very good they are very polite and helpful to... The best bengali restaurant i have been.

Great place to enjoy king size Bengali food in a great atmosphere. Superb service. Must visit
Went here for a lunch on a weekday. We had two options on thali one was smaller one and the later was bigger one. The bigger thali had more options and costed ₹1099/- +tax. The ambience was really good but the service was really slow.
In Starters - Radhuni murgh is worth mentioning, but fish bethurani was my favourite among them.
Main Course - Kosha Mangsho, Pabda Sorse, Katla Kalia all of them were really good, paired with Polao were really good. All of the items were unlimited.
We also ordered Daab Chingri from a la carte menu was below average. Was too sweet.
Desert - Pineapple chutney and papad were served. Ordered Nolen Gurer Cheesecake from a la carte was average. It was more of a whipped cream on top of jaggery.
The best Bengali restaurant I've ever been to. Each and every food item of the thali was wonderful and the service was also great. I have a thing for beautifully decorated restaurant and this place was a treat to the eyes.
In the whole food and ambience is worth the money.
We went yesterday night and opted for non veg thal. Interior ambience was awesome with a light music playing at background...items which were served are as follows:
Aampora sorbot as welcome drink
Starters:
Fish fry
Lotte macher fry
Chicken hariyali kebab
Mutton kebab
and one more starter
Main courses:
Koraisutir kochuri
Alur dom
Cholar dal
Rice
Pulao
Katla fish
Parse fish
Chicken
Mutton
Chatni with 3 types of papads
All the items are unlimited.. starters were awesome (specially fish fry, Lotte fry, chicken kebab)..also the main courses (rice, pulao, mutton, parshe) were good..only chicken and katla in the main course were insipid in taste..staffs were well behaved and polite..
Also we took MISTI sampler from a la carte which consists rabri, bhapa doi, daab sandesh and mihidana..only cons is they added extra 7.5 % as service charge over GST.. overall the experience is good and will definitely try their a la carte menu on next visit..
This restaurant was on our menu for a quiet some time, and we finally decided to visit this place on my wife's birthday.. it's situated in the 4th floor of city center mall, salt lake.. the lifts beside mall office room takes you straight to the restaurant.. as u enter the restaurant, it segregates u from rest of the mall.. the decor, the ambience, the aura, the lightings, the waiting area, takes u to a completely different age, and everything seems to be very elegant, porche and unique.. the sitting area is quiet large, well light and decorated with different pictures and items of Bengal from zamindari age.. the food is divided into ala carte and thali.. the menu is quiet elaborate.. we ordered one non-veg thali and the rest was ala carte.. all the food items were fresh, very tasty and last but not the least, very very Bengali 👍 special mention to pur bhora bhetki, mochar aamshol and poncha bhaja.. now in spite of everything being so great and unique, there was this downside ie. their service.. the person serving us, never told that items in thali can be repeated; once asked for repetition, it took ages to arrive.. had they not charged 7.5% as service tax, their wouldn't have been this drawback.. but when u r charging for ur service, one needs to b more careful.. overall a very good experience, and definitely worth a visit for people with Bengali taste buds 😃
Bengali zamindar Bari themed restaurant, serving authentic east and west Bengali dishes.
Ambience is straight out of a Rituparno Ghosh's film, complete with chandeliers and paintings. All staff members are clad in traditional Bengali attire. Decor and music are full on retro Bengali.
Coming to the food, we ordered Potoler chingri stuffed dolma, sona mung dal, desi murgir jhol, mete chorchori and gobindo bhog rice (there was no other option in rice). All the items were served in brass utensils, and tasted delicious and authentic. Quality and quantity both were excellent. Service was quite good too.
One gripe was the excessive waiting time to get a table. We went on a Saturday afternoon and had to wait over forty minutes for lunch. The payesh and mishti doi they served for birthday somewhat made up for it though!
Had dinner with my friend . Thank you so much for taking such wonderful care of us. The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. The food was fresh, properly prepared and a great value for the price. We specially enjoyed the special starters. And main course was absolutely awesome. Please give our thanks to the manager and others for wonderful service. Highly recommended.
Ambience is so nice, the decor is based on some zamindar Bari interiors. Mochar pulao and palong chanar kofta, both were delicious. The cocktails were nicely made as well.
Buffet items are very good..
One word - "Excellent"...I had drink too.
One of the best yo best Bengali cuisine restaurant in Kolkata.
Ambience-4.8
Food-4.7
Service-4.5
Price-4 ( little high)
We ordered ilish vapa, kalo jeera narkeler Golda chigri and plain rice. Quantity is sufficient for two. Taste is just awesome. Specially the quality of ilidh I never had in any restaurant in kolkata. Its just too good. Love have there again.

It's a late upload since I had visited this place on September'19.
On a Sunday afternoon, I went to this place with my family. Though I generally do not like to go to any places which serve Bengali cuisine, but after reading a lot of reviews on Zomato, tried this place and celebrated my elder sister's first "Iburovat " (by me) here ☺
After trying out this place, I do not regret the decision.
Now quick review of this place and their food; Sonar Tori is located at City Centre 1,they have a lot of options in their buffet and prices vary according to that.
We opted for Sonar Tori Non-veg Thali(without desserts) at Rs.1099+tax.
Menu included
Aam pora shorbot,
Loita macher Bora,
Panch Phoron grilled fish,
Chingrir cutlet,
Mansher seekh(mutton),
Rasun murgi tikka,
3types of Bhate(ভাতে) & some bhaja(ভাজা),
Luchi & alurdom,
Normal rice and pulao,
Cholar dal,
Parshe macher sorshe bata,
Aar macher gorgora,
Radhuni Murgi,
Mansher Jhol(mutton),
Chutney and papad.
Firstly point to be noted, all the items even the aam pora shorbot was unlimited.
Secondly, not only the taste but also the quality was much appreciable.
Every item tasted amazing, just like they taste in each Bengali families, not too oily or greasy. Spices were well mixed and balanced.
Lastly, their hospitality to be talked about -all the staff were well behaved and polite and they will give you freshly made items each time whenever you ask for extra.
So,it’s must visit and highly recommended place for Bengali foodlovers..
Ambience - 4.75/5
Staff Behaviour - 4.75/5
Service - 4/5
Food and drinks - 3.5/5
Value for money - 3.75/5
Overall - 4.25/5
Situated at the 4th floor of City Centre mall, Sonar Tori is a well known restaurant serving authentic bengali food.
The restaurant is one of the most beautifully decorated restaurant I have seen. It paints the picture of the luxurious lifestyle of the zamindars from a bygone era. They serve all the food in a 'kasar' thala with plantain leaf on top. The waiters are dressed traditionally and overall it really takes you to a different place from a different time when you enter the establishment.
The staff are extremely well behaved and courteous. Not only they look dapper in their service clothing, but they bring the authentic 'bangaliana' in their service as well. Where they keep offering you more food in a thali setting - which the other establishments would avoid to cut costs.
The service is a bit confused at times, but that can be attributed to the fact that we went in a large group. There was some confusion and delay with food, but nothing substantial.
The only low point of the whole experience, if I might call so is the food. Having dined in 6 Ballygunj place just the day before, I could compare one bengali establishment with the other quite effectively. And I am sorry to say, 6 Ballygunj place beats Sonar Tori on food hands down. All the items are decent, but if you are charging 1300+tax for a meal you need to serve food that people remember. It was not the case.
It would be the bengali place to visit if it improves the food a few notches. I will definitely visit it again to see if the food has improved.
Excellent food quality. I went with my friends and chose the non veg thali!
Ordered Mangshor bhuna(mutton dish) and radha ballavi. The mutton was of excellent pedigree and frankly this is the only reason I will go back to them again. Very low on fat and high on meat and fibre as I like it. The radha ballavis ( basically a type of Puri for the uninitiated) are the perfect filler to go with that. The interior decoration is unique and does justice to the overall theme of the restaurant. A must visit outlet in Salt Lake for sure.
Great presentation!!! Good food... taste the variety.... Portions are pretty good if you are opting for Thali... Daab Sandesh is an ecstasy... A must visit place of in town... special mention for chef Bhaskar Gupta... Thanks for the arrangements...Hope to drop in soon...
The ambience is amazing....its truly an experience...service was very good, courteous staff assisted us. Among food, the Mete chorchori, kosha mangsho, trikon porota, chutneys, papads were very good. The sweet platter is also nice . But the kochupata chingri was very overpriced, not good, the lote mach, murals bati chorchori is also not recommended. The paan at last was truly amazing...
1st time Sonar Tori CC1 Sector V a gia6elm.. Okhenkar Ambience ta Decoration ta Lightings n the Music.. Quality of Foods.. Jst Seiiii😊

If possible I'll surely go there once again😊👍🏻
Visited this place with my family few months back. Ambience of this place is highly appreciated. Food quantity is a little bit less as compared to it's price but on the other note, quality is commendable. Alcohol is also provided. They also have buffet option. Staffs were extremely polite and helpful. Overall a must visit.
Yesterday we went to Sonar Tori restaurant only to experience Authentic Bengali Food. The ambience of the restaurant attracts me a lot specially the decoration and the calmness. Now coming to the food we ordered rice motorsuti die daal aloobhaja daal was good in taste aloobhaja fried well...got that crispy taste. Prawn malai curry was really good and juicy in taste. Chitol macher muitha has always been my favourite.... and the taste of the dish was really good but was little spicy which I was not expecting. The another dish was mutton curry mutton was tender in taste curry was properly cooked, good in taste.Last dish was chutney with papad without this a complete meal would be incomplete. Khejurer chutney was just awesome and same goes with aam chutney and that goes well with papad. Overall good experience for my first visit.
Well this is one of the best restaurants where we can find the authentic Bengali food. The Thali is always a treat! The Prawn malai curry is one of the best dish that I love there. I would definitely recommend people to go and taste the authentic Bengali food.
Great ambience... a perfect place for Bengali food... loved the decoration....staffs were very friendly.... overall experience was great...🙂
One of the best restaurants (of concurrent times) to dine in. The price is definitely high but that is expected. In return, one gets excellent tasty food; mesmerising ambience; commendable service from the staff serving food.
One thing in particular: when someone tending to a particular table is away, the staff from the adjacent tables take over. Consequently the customer never feels left out. This is really laudable.
Satisfying food and beautifully presented in a traditional feel of brass tableware and serve ware.
The preparations I loved the most were
- aloo dum
- Khatta bhindi
- daap sandesh
- Malai kofta
Kudos to the chef!
Well that was a instant visit without any recommendations. Starting from the ambience, that was great with some tagore songs. We ordered a combination of tele bhaja , pur bhora bhetki as starters which was excessive for two people. Then we took plain rice, alu bhaja and dal with chingri Mach er Malai curry. That was just Bliss. I would recommend this place for whoever prefers Bengali food.
Delicious bengali food wd classic interior. I ws there wd my family and they all like the place. It’s a very good family restaurant wd good food😊
It was Saptami when I went with my family. I liked the ambience and the taste of the food was really great. I tested all the items as they were having Durga Puja special thali at that time. I really liked the fish fry, kancha Ilisher tel jhol, chingri malai curry and aam sondesh. We enjoyed our thali. Great food with good service. Highly recommended.
Great place to have authentic bengali food.Specially when you are probashi bangali and craving to have some good bengali food then this restaurant is a must visit place.keep up the good work.
If you want to treat yourself like a proper bangali then this place is just for you.. A royal thali with a variety of bengali dishes specially bhapa ilish, fish fry, gandhoraj ghol which ensures you that bengali food is the best food till now..
This is the best place to try the authentic bengali cuisine. The daab chingri was super creamy, meat was very tender and moist. The rice and pulao were perfectly prepared. A great pleasing meal it was
Pujo and Bengali cuisines go hand in hand, and when a place like Sonar Tori is there you can live with the relaxation.. cause you will not leave unhappy and disheartened. Light food without the extra spices but a perfect taste... sheer taste.
A perfect ambience served on “Kashar” utensils. Tried the gondhoraj lebur ghol, which is a perfect to quench your thirst in the beginning. Plain ‘Gobindo bhag’ er rice feels great to taste with light and tasty dab chingri and mutton gravy. No extra spices and ‘jhaal’.
To end it tried bhapa doi, which didn’t disappoint again.
Thank you for such contributing to flavours of Bengal.

Had a lovely lunch.Food, ambience and staff courtesy was very good.
Went for the Puja Thali. Good variety of food, very good taste, unlimited helpings.
Service was very prompt and helpful.
1) Loitta Maacher Bora, Fish Fry, Mangsher Sheekh, Roshun Murgir Tikka
2) Kancha Ilish Tel Jhol, Ilisher Matha Diye Pui Shaakh Chorchori, Murgir Jhol, Bhuna Mangsho, Cholar Dal, Alur Dom, Pora Tomato Bhate, Alu Bhate, Kumro Kanchalonka Bhate
3) Payesh, Langcha, Aam Sandesh, Chutney
The ambience was terrific. Takes you back to the good old days of bengal's opulence. Loved the food, decor. Overall a nice experience.

So the best bengali cuisine in town is now bucketlisted.
It was an amazing experience in here .
The food quality and service was just WOW♥️.
It will be bit costly for two people make sure you are three or four because their food quantity is that much.
Enjoyed solo Lunch, in company with decent crowd, delicious food, and a conservative presentation, unlike bbq rush. Keep it up.
As the name suggests (Sonar Tori) the place has a old Retro Bengali ambiance with decorations like that of a old typewriter, brass vases which gives the restro an authentic Bengali charm and as one enters the essence of Rajnigandha flower makes the place quite cosy and is great for every kind of Dinner and Lunch.
When you are in Bengal nobody can get away from the delicacies that a fish adds to the menu and if you want to try fishes then is one of the perfect place to be in city. Starting from Hilsa Prawn Bhetki Ayre and the list is never ending, along with chicken and mutton and the menu adds on. And to must try note we would suggest to try on the sweets as those would bring in the whole delight of eating there. Follow our food journey on Instagram khete_dao
If you have your fantasy to dine like yesteryear's zamindar then Kolkata just got the perfect place where you can tick that off from your to-do-list. The royalty is dripping down from all corners down the ceiling.
Bro Tip: Must try Pur Bhora Betki, Murgir Ghoti Kebab, Mangshor Bhuna, Mochar Pulao and Daaber Sandesh

As you walk inside Sonar Tori at the waiting area you will be greeted by the uniformed attendants. The waiting area with golden palm leaves on one side, plants painted on the walls and flowers thrown in with abundance in every nook and corner, is lit up by an opulent chandelier. On setting your foot inside the main dining room the ceiling made of 268 inverted spittoons, fitted with lights will catch your attention. From the typical old fashioned braided chairs with a faded off-white tone to them to a dalan-style seating area, with an open window, to a well-preserved ancient typewriter placed like a trophy every inch of Sonar Tori oozes royalty. The chequered floors in the verandah seating area with marble table top also a great option for outdoor eating during day time or winter. The main attraction was the bigger private dining room which has red velvet and brocade walls and upholstery, bell metal cutlery and tableware on a huge dining table and an installation made of old bedposts lighting up the table.
Before heading to starters had couple of fusion mocktails inspired from the Bengali ingredients. Gur Ada Komola Lebu Mojito is an orange based mocktail sweetened with palm jaggery and spiked with ginger. The drink is topped with soda and finished with dried orange ring. Kacha Aamer Moshla Mojito is another green mango based mocktail mixed with Indian spices and finished with kaffir lime ring.
In appetizers we started off with Pur Bhora Betki. Thin slices of bhetki (Asian Sea Bass or Baramundi) with fish stuffing are crispy fried with bread crumbs batter and served with kasundi (mustard sauce). Sorshe Narkol Chingri Bhapa is a steamed dish of shrimp covered with grated coconut and mustard paste and wrapped in banana leaves. Murgir Ghoti Kebab is about chicken chunks marinated and cooked inside closed vessel but the twist in the tale was the subtle charcoal flavour makes it delectable. Mangshor Sutli Kebab is minced mutton wrapped around skewer and cooked inside tandoor. The thread (sutli) prevents those tender minced meat to fall of the skewer.
In main course, a classic Daab Chingri was presented on table. Fresh succulent prawns cooked inside coconut shell with mustard, grated coconut and green chillies. Aloo Diye Posto Murgi is country chicken dish cooked in poppy seeds and potato chunks gravy. Mangshor Bhuna is a slow cooked dry mutton dish, a delicacy from Dhaka. All these dishes were relished with Mochar Pulao, a pilaf cooked in short grained rice and with banana flowers and spices.
Finally once we reached towards desserts though we were already full still cannot let the epic dining feast to be incomplete without sweet ending. Among Mihidana, Rabri and Bhapa Doi the show stealer was the Daaber Sandesh. The sandesh was very low in sugar yet so delicious. It has a layer of daab or tender coconut malai steamed and topped with chena and coconut malai. Before walking out do not miss the Paan.
Special mention to the hospitality by the team led by Mr. Souro De and exquisite creations from the kitchen of Executive Chef Bhaskar Dasgupta. Only scope of improvement shall be the sloppy table service by the servers.
Notably mentioning about the rice, it was tulaipanji rice. Awesome taste and smell. Aloo Dom had subtle taste of spices. Mourola macher bati chocchori was made with coconut and mustard paste. Dab tulsi tok mojito was another star of today's menu. Postor bora reminds of my own kitchen taste. A place to enjoy with your family to taste the lost recipes of bengal.

A very nice bengali restaurant situated in city center 1, provides you with a soothing atmosphere and very beautiful decor...
So we went for a dinner and ordered murgir ghoti kebab along with pur bhora bhetki( highly recommended) for starters...
In the main course we had steamed rice along with bhetki macher paturi( my Fav among all), chitol macher muitthya, mutton..
For dessert we took misti sampler (a combination of 4 types of misti)..
Although the price here is a bit much bt food quality and the ambience of the restaurant just covered it all... Service was also nice and quick..
We booked our table through Dineout app so got all of these at 50% discount on our total bill!
I highly recommend this restaurant..

Gondhoraj Ghol (5/5)
Basanti Pulao (4/5)
Kosha Mangsho (5/5)
Vetki paturi (4/5)
Highly recommended!
I have been there on my birthday 25th aug. When actually the done out flat 50 was running.I booked the table and bought 3 coupon which was around 98 /- and as I paid through HDFC so I got cashback of 40/-.
It is situated in CC1,B block 4 th floor.
So when I entered into the Sonar tori it's look like kind of antique piece showroom. It is so well decorated with such a beautiful antique piece and big mirrors.
Their staffs were so good ,so helpful and courteous.
They served food on kansa plate.
We ordered MISTI pulao,Gobindobhog chalet Bhat,Meter chochhori, Murgir khol,Chicken biriani.
Let me tell you one thing this restaurant is too costly.i wouldn't say that it is over priced just because their Ambience and in the background rabinda sangeet was running. They will obviously collect their maintenance charge from us.just for information I'm telling you it is not a medium price resturent.
But as we went through dineout coupon we got a good discount. Our total bill was 1285 but I paid only 685.
I tried the buffet as well as ala carte.
I tried
Kakori kebab - 5
Bhaat -5
Sukto - just like home made one -5
Masoor daal -5
Bhaja platter-it had 5 different ones -4
Mutton kosha-4
Aloo posto -3 it lacked salt and wasn't good at all.
The ambience is awesome
The place is pricey beyond it's worth.
The staffs were not very courteous that day too.
Amazing and Authentic Bengali Fine Dining experience.
They truly kept the ambience, the service to a high level. We opted for their Vegetarian Thali and every item was made to perfection. The starters was a platter of Beetroot Chop, BokFul bhaja, Chhanar Tikka, Kathi Roll. We were served Luchi, Basanti Pulao, Rice, Suktoni, Narkel Chholar Dal, Hing Alu Dom, Alu Fulkopi r Kossa, Panchmesali Torkari, Chhanar Dalna, with Alu Bhate, Kumro Bhate, jhuri Aloo.Bhaja and Potol Bhaja.
Followed by Chutney, Papad, Misti Doi, Nolen Gurer Rosogolla, Payesh.
All items are unlimited and feel free to go for multiple rounds though we didn't need as the serving sizes were more than enough.
A must go to place if you are looking for authentic Bengali food experience. Located in the City Centre-I Saltake.
We found good ethnic Bengali Food here. Although their prices are on the higher side, but the quality and quantity is worth it. The interior is set in a vintage theme depicting the lifestyle of old Rajbari style of living in Bengal. Ideal for family lunch.
Bengali flavors, a culinary delight,
,where tastes take flight. Every single items that i ordered is specially hand crafted by chef to ensure that our taste buds is awakened to extreme. We went with unlimited non veg thali which has huge variety but the Bombil Fish Fry at starter was ultimate which I never had anywhere. They serve gobindo bhog rice in thali which is excellent and goes very well. Sweet pulao with touch of kesar very nicely done and taste very well with Mutton. The look of the whole restaurant is very nicely done giving it a very modern yet takes you back to history of Bengali food. Lights are very suttle which gives a nice vibe and change the look of the food making it more tempting. Aam Pora Drink is the one makes you more hungry and must have for your digestion. Lastly the Nolen Gurer Ice Cream at dessert just nailed it, a must have.
If you really want to try Bengali food with excellent service this is the place to be. Each and every staff knows what they are serving and highly professional. Will surely visit again soon. I wish they have one such branch in Delhi too.
Can’t stop myself from visiting this restaurant over again.
Everything is simply perfect about this place, most important the staff behavior is good & excellent hospitality they take care of every order right and don’t let me wait any longer.
I have the best dining experience with the place. Full five starts for the food, every dish was perfect made and so tasty.
The food taste and quality are really great. I highly recommend this restaurant. Food was Soo yummy. I have to say here I had the best non veg bengali thali 😋
And must say the atmosphere and the decoration is really great and nostalgic, mostly the balcony area ❤
as I love those kind of bengali bonedi bari thats why I love the ambience too much.
sonar tori perfectly meet my expectations by food and by the ambience.
Note: as I'm from a bengali family and I was visited with my family... in the non veg thali I do prefer basmati rice in plain rice, not gobindovog for lunch (its a feedback)
We were visiting Kolkata for the first time. It's the best restaurant to try authentic Kolkata cuisine. The food, the service, everything was great. Loved the ambience of this restaurant. They also recommended amazing dishes to try out. Will definitely visit this place again for sure!
Must try:
Kolkata special Chicken curry and rice
Kolkata special snacks plate
Mustard fish
Jorda rabri and gorom mihidana for dessert
Sonar Tori is a captivating Bengali heritage restaurant , dedicated to reviving long-lost Bengali recipes. With each dish, it takes you on a nostalgic journey through the rich culinary traditions of Bengal, offering a feast for both the palate and the soul.
It’s not just about the food; Sonar Tori is also a haven for cocktail lovers, with a delightful array of drinks, each with a Bengali twist and a creative name that adds to the experience.
Our Cocktails were aam pora Martini (the least sweet of them for me) and a fascinating Dal chino Modhu tok whiskey for my friend.
And then the food! Each Platter was amazing, the most being the Mochar Pulao! Amazing subtle taste!
Ended with some Saab sandesh and noken gurer ice-cream..
Hats off to you Chiranjib Chatterjee you have taken the Neotia Restaurants and clubs and cafes to a different level!
Kudos to Chef Bhaskar and his team, especially Debasis who took care of us. A heartfelt thank you 🙏😊
If you are in Kolkata, and St Lake do visit this unique heritage Bengali restaurant. You will thank me later

Dined in for late lunch.
It is pocket pinching.
I suggest food should be less sweet. Not all delicacies require hint of sweetness, alas!!! Bengali cooks are forgetting it day by day.
Mangshor jhol was tasty.
I had ilish faridpuri n paturi- it was as per my liking.
We had LIT as drinks, unnecessary costly-way more than other 5 star hotels in the city.
Posto was ornamental, I did not like it.
One thing which stands out is the decor and the staff.Outstanding indeed.
Great spot for authentic Bengali food. Must-try dishes like 'Kosh Mangso', daab chingri, and fish were delicious. They also offer Bengali thali. The staff explained everything about the dish. Food, Service and atmosphere are 5 star.
Loved the Bengali tradition cuisine and vibe, it's such a delight to consume foods that we were once familiar with while growing up, at least. Being a terrible cook, it's only restaurants like this that allows me to eat foods that I had earlier taken for granted at home. However, the oil in chanar dalna is a little too much, making the dish excessively greasy. The bhetkir paturi was excellent, perfect fish and right amount of spices. Aloor dum and koraishnutir kochuri were quite good. I definitely overate 😆
It is located at City center 1 Saltlake. So locationwise it is pretty good. I have ordered from them many times, also visited their place once. They serve tasty bengali food. I have tried their non-veg as well as veg items, all taste good. In fact they have some newly invented dishes which are also very tasty. Their mutton dishes are very good.
Overall experience was very good.
