The taste is good but not perfect. The ambience is quite nice. So is the service. They have a great potential of soaring high, if only they would professionalize their techniques a bit more. One doesn't always appreciate an amateur hand when they are paying the same as they would have to for a professional cook.

Very cordial and welcoming staff. The ambience is also homely. An old house has been converted to a restaurant keeping the few ancient architecture in place. We had ordered for fish & chips and something new called Mutton Greek Moussaka. Both were good but the latter was new to the taste bud and extremely delectable!

This restaurant is located inside a residential property in a residential neighbourhood. The tables are spread out across different rooms on the ground floor. One advantage of such a layout is that if you are in a right sized group, you can have a whole room to yourself for a private party. We were in such a group of around a dozen people and so was able to take advantage of such an arrangement. Being in a group also allowed me to sample a large number of dishes on the menu from the starters to the desserts. The food was decent overall without being anything extraordinary. The dishes I liked most were the bacon wrapped chicken and the roast lamb with some really tender pieces of meat. The service was courteous throughout as well.

Blue door is my favourite plc in Kolkata...yes I also like Mainland China .... but for me Blue Door is like my most lovable ghar Ka khana type joint... It's a few years now it the taste n quality is still the same. In da last 2 years I hv almost tried everything in their menu by now n everything tastes good....starting from Mexican cheese balls...mutton ghoulash....rosemary chin n chkn in wine sauce.. they also have some bacon wrapped chkn which is to die for....
The best part of Blue Door is the owner Pinaki who gives his personal touch to everything ...be it the simple decor to the food quality to the warm attitude of the staff who are always ready to help n guide n never pushing u to try dishes which are not moving....perfect balance ...nothing is over the top.... Never have had a bad taste in my mouth or stomach upset or indigestion or any discomfort after being at Blue Door.,..I guess I can go bk to this cosy joint every week ......Thts why I call Blue Door my ghar Ka khana type kitchen!

The ambience was minimalist but pleasant. We had a room to ourselves. That was definitely a plus. The service was courteous and attentive. We ordered cilantro fish, paella, roasted chicken with mushrooms, garlic bread and BBQ chicken sizzler. The coating on the fish was chewey and it didn't taste freshly prepared. The paella was obviously a mixture of ingredients already cooked separately. The rice was very dry. The other ingredients were fresh, but it didn't come across well as a whole dish. The sausages didn't quite fit in. It definitely required some fresh seafood. The whole thing should have been cooked together at least partially. The chunks of chicken in every item were soft succulent but bland. The gravy of the roast was quite good. But again the chicken lacked flavour. As a whole, not a disaster, but not on immediate return list. The 50% discount from dine-out made it very pocket friendly. Otherwise, it is more expensive than than it should be.

To be honest came to know through a promo code through book my show and visited on 1st January. It was not a bad decision. The food was great and the decor was simple. the service was good and warm but lacked a slight Finace. And yes please change the Panna cotta. It was a big turn off after a superb sumptuous meal. But yes a joint I would love to come back to.

This restaurant is located at Southern avenue, near Tyagaraja hall.

I was invited from PanchPhoron group for food tasting at the Blue Door.

Ambience is nice, homely , moderately spaced with pictures , showpieces hanging all around.

Staffs are decent .

We were welcomed by fresh lime soda , which had a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness and was very refreshing.

Then we were served by 1) Spanish garlic chicken soup , which was tangy, thick, flavourful with generous fillings.

2) Chicken Manchow soup , which was served with fried noodles was spicy with a hint of sweetness, full of flavours and generous fillings.
Both soups were thoroughly enjoyable.

As starters, we had 1) Cilentro chicken , which was deep fried, colourful , tasty and soft. It contained chicken, coriander leaves, chopped garlic, white wine, lemon juice.

2) Crispy chilli chicken was made with chilli paste and tomato sauce , was crispy, spicy and was delectable .

3) Moorg tandoori , was grilled very well, soft and was served with green chutney and salad was enjoyable.

4) Moorg reshmi kebab , was also grilled well, had a thick cheesy layer which tasted realy good and was served with salad.

Then came main course , we had the following -

1) Pan grill fish Bhetki with lemon butter sauce, local Bhetki cones with mashed potato & souted vegetables was soft, succulent and a must try.

2) Bar- B- Que chicken sizzler , served with souted vegetables , French fries and egg poach , in a wooden plate looked attractive and tasted scrumptious . It is a must try.

3) Spanish pealla, a delicious Spanish pulao with prawn, chicken, egg etc served with spicy garlic sauce was cooked very well, generous fillings but must be taken warm otherwise it would taste bland.

4) Chinese mixed Hakka noodles, with chicken, prawn and egg was also cooked well and tasty.

5) Butter naan was soft , good size .

6) Stuffed Kulcha, stuffed with vegetables, potato, paneer etc was nice, soft .

7) Dal Makhani , was thick and creamy and was enjoyable.

Mocktails-

1) Blue lagoon , which was average.

2) Virgin Mojito , had a good balance, cool and refreshing.

3) Blue Door special mocktail , which was a surprise, its very spicy with honey base and chillies was realy unique. It must be tried to have an unique experience .

Thank you PanchPhoron for inviting me to this event . Thanks to the management and Chef for a wonderful presentation .
A must visit place to enjoy the delicacies .

Last week I went there. This place is difficult to locate. I used zomato to locate it. On entering I found the place empty, even I had to search for the waiters. Firstly I wanted to have some mocktails from their menu but those were unavailable. Disappointed. Then I ordered one of their best dishes FISH CILANTRO ( many of my fellow zomatian and commissures liked it). And me too. It was a superb dish. Melt in mouth soft fish pieces were enriched with lemon flavour. It's better to ask them for Kolkata vetki while ordering this because they also use basa. Next dish was mutton lasagna. It was rich, oily and a bit more salty. One lasagna is enough for one people, can be shared by two also. Overall the dish was not up to the mark.
Service is ok but it was understaffed, I don't know how they managed it during rash hours.
Pocket pinch is more.
Excepting the fish cilantro the place has not imposed a great remark on my mind.

Last Sunday after catching up with old friends at Abar Boithak in the morning,my wife and I decided to visit The Blue Door for lunch since we had read about the place in Zomato.

Location: Southern Avenue near Lake Kali bari. Just opposite Tyagraj Hall. Landmark is Tyagraj Hall.

Décor: The ground floor of the house has been converted to this small cosy restaurant. The two rooms can seat about 20-24 people. Nice done up interior with paintings, glass show pieces and warm lighting. Comfortable clean well laid table and chairs.

Service: We entered very late for lunch at about 3.30 pm but we were greeted warmly. They generally close at 4.00 pm. The waiters are very helpful and courteous.

Food: We had ordered bacon wrapped prawns, pan grilled fish in fish lemon butter sauce and Ayam Bali with Nasi Goreng ( it is an Indonesian fried chicken with their spicy fried rice with sambal ).
We liked the bacon wrapped prawns - the sauce was really great. Small suggestion, would like the bacon to be less fatty and the prawns to be little more well done. This would suit my palate.
Really loved the pan grilled fish - it was just perfectly cooked with a lovely fish lemon butter sauce. Loved the butter glazed vegetables. It was lip smacking- a must have!
Ayam Bali with Nasi Goreng was nice -the gravy has coconut milk. If you don't like coconut milk please don't go for it. Quantity of this fish is really good and more than sufficient for one person.

Pocket Pinch: For two persons Rs. 1200+. I found the price to be bit on the higher side.

This place is actually a food boutique. Had ordered the following dishes :
1) Gin Chicken Olivetti - 5.0
Balls of chicken enrobed in savoury creamy sauce with a piece of olive inside. The sauce was great and the dish was excellent.
2) Chicken Lasagna - 4.2
It was good but I had better in many other places. Could definitely use more cheese.
3) Ayam Bali with Nasi Goreng - 4.0
It's an Indonesian preparation. The rice was good but the chicken was dominated by excessive coconut milk. Other than that, the dish was good.
4) Gandharaj Lemon ice cream - 5.0
The best dish of the evening. If you like Gandharaj lemon then this ice cream will be a big hit.
Quality and quantity of food is good with slightly above average prices. Ambience and service is very good.

Located inside the lane next to lake kali Bari this place is a hidden gem for continental lovers . Visited this place with friends from school. This place serves best of continental dishes . My second favourite after mocombo. Though it is not that spacious but the small restaurant has a homely and cosy feel to it . We ordered celery chicken which was nicely done . Nasi goreng is another must have .

I found it a little bit tricky to locate this place without navigation. However once I stepped into the place I had good vibes. We ordered Fresh Lime Soda while we waited for our food. We ordered a Chicken A La Kiev and a Spinach & Chicken Lasagna. The food was delicious, just a little more cheese and the lasagna would have been the best I ever had! The service was good too.

Located near Thyagraj Hall, Lake Kali Bari, Southern Avenue, the Blue Door doesn't have a 'blue door' but serves decent continental delicacies. The interior is very homely and neatly decorated. They have a large variety of options- continental, oriental and dessert.

In starter...
CILANTRO CHICKEN fried chicken strips along with cilantro.
GIN CHICKEN OLIVETTI chicken pieces stuffed with olives and prepared in whitish dry gravy. Tasted awesome.

In main....
MUTTON SHEPHERDS PIE spicy minced mutton baked with buttered potato mash. It was truly good. GARLIC BREAD
FISH FLORENTINE their another speciality, sea bass baked in a bed of spinach.
BACON CHEESARELLA nice and creamy, full of cheese and bacon.
ORIENTAL CHICKEN chicken cooked in oyster sauce served with rice.
But shepherds pie was clear winner.

In desserts...
MANGO ICE CREAM and NOLEN GURER ICE CREAM. They served Pabrai's natural ice cream and the flavour was mind blowing. One just cannot have enough of Nolen gurer ice cream.

Service is quite poor as the servers don't have any idea about what they are serving

Been there a couple of days back. The food was brilliant and the homely vibes, God bless this place. By the way, if one was to be closest to heaven, the Gondhoraj Ice cream does a pretty good job.
Only downside, pricing is a bit steep, but the quality of food justifies it.

Well me and my buddy decided to give this place a try. As we entered we realized the place has 4 rooms. Liked the way they renovated the place, the owner told me if you visit Continental Europe you will see the rooms are influenced from that part of the world.
Ambience and decor is cool , liked it.
Menu card was descriptive in nature.
The doors are a bit difficult to open , really tight.

Coming to the food , here are the following items we tried :

A. Fresh Lime - It was not so good , not chilled tasted average.

B. Fish Cilantro - You won't get this item in the menu , gotta ask for it . This item was delicious , from the first bite to the last bite it felt like heaven.

C. Chicken Stroganoff - Well I have tasted this item in many places but over here it was just exquisite. Made extremely well , everything was perfect about this dish.

D. Caramel Custard - The best way to end a meal for sure. Another item which was just sublime.

Overall a lovely experience.

This is a long due review for this place. I don't know what happened to this place and why it is having so many negative reviews recently, but I had a nice lunch experience here.
We had trouble locating the place initially but the staffs guided us efficiently when asked over phone. Finally on reaching the place, the manager took us to our table and to be honest I liked the appearance of this little boutique restaurant- warm and cozy.
Food is undoubtedly the best thing about this place. We had Spanish veg garlic soup with garlic breads, dry chili chicken and Chicken lasagna.
This is undoubtedly the BEST soup I've ever had. I am not really a soup-person, but this one turned out to be amazing. Dry Chili Chicken and Garlic bread was good, but not something to go gaga over. Again, the lasagna was nothing less than awesome. Both the beverages classic mojito and blue lagoon was refreshing.

Wanted to try the Fish Florentine but we were already full so maybe next time.

Well I hadn't expected so much from this relatively new restaurant.... But I was surprised. The food was really good. The bacon wrapped prawns were awesome and so was the chicken chausser. But..... There's a downside to the restaurant. Service was honestly speaking not very good. Waiters (actually only 1) were inefficient and the cutlery wasn't clean. But the food was excellent and deserves 5*s. I have the 4 only because of the service.

This review is very special to me. First of all, this is the first review of the Bengali New Year 1423 and secondly, my partner in all of my food journeys, my best friend and partner has joined Zomato. This is going to be the first review after he has joined in the foodie community. Cheers!
The Blue Door is located just opposite to the Tyagraj Hall in Raja Basanta Roy Road. We had peeked in their for an early dinner with respect to Indian standards at around 7 in the evening. The owner was there at the gate who was courteous enough to take us to the seats. It's a very small place with just two rooms converted into a resto. The decor is very simple and quaint. The rooms are separated by a corridor which you have to take obviously if you want to sit inside and on the way you won't miss the view of the kitchen and its mess.
Well, we settled in. We had ordered Bacon Wrapped Chicken, Sea Island Shrimp and Pork Vindaloo. The bacon wrapped chicken is unique and pretty good as it comes tossed in white sauce apart from the usual ones. The Sea Island Shrimp is yummy too. It is actually a main course although mentioned in the starters section, as said by the attendant. Served with garlic bread, it had four medium sized prawns dipped in a mayonnaise based sauce similar to the prawn cocktail of Peter Cat. I liked it very much. The Pork Vindaloo was like out of the world - the fragrance, the flavours and the taste created a heavenly atmosphere.
Dessert section was a bit disappointing. They said to have a variety of unique flavours in ice cream section. When asked for that, it was said only Vanilla and Chocolate was available. So we settled for the Caramel Custard, a popular one which is not mentioned in the menu. It was good. Oh yes, we were given complimentary Aam Pora Sherbet for the Noboborsho, I guess. That was refreshing pretty much in this scorching heat.
But one thing I must say why I took down the points in spite of such good food, is the staff service. They are very slow, too inefficient. They don't answer when called. Even if they listen, they go away. Once they go back, they do not come back soon. We had to wait 25minutes just for the bill to get paid. When they provided us the bill for the first time, they charged us 60INR extra for the dessert (charged for the custard apple ice cream which was not available instead of Caramel Custard). When we asked to rectify the mistake they took so long again that we finally got up, directly went to them, gave our cards and asked them to make the payments done at the corridor only rather than the table. Whatever.
The experience at the last was really disheartening. I mentioned of this incident to the owner who was waiting at the gate and asked about the experience. The Blue Door could have been so much better with the improvement of the staff service and behaviour. Their food is very good. There is no scope of complaint. A little more cleanliness (there were stains on the table cloth for reusing it again and again without washing), betterment in staff service can surely make this place a very popular and good eating joint in Kolkata. Happy Dining! :) Souvik

Today we randomly stepped into this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised.
We started with Chicken Majestic(Rs225), it has a very subtle flavor with a hint of lemon grass. If you are into mild tastes then this is the thing for you. Then we had
Non Veg Vindaloo Portuguese Carne De Vinha D'Alhos(Mutton)(450), this is basically a mild mutton stew and comes with a bowl of butter rice. Primary tastes are white wine vinegar and garlic. This was totally out of the world. And I'm definitely going back to Blue Door just eat this platter. Then we had Grilled Fish(500) with lemon butter sauce(bhetki) and this was also exquisite. Out of all these our favorite was the Non Veg Vindaloo Portuguese Carne De Vinha D'Alhos(Mutton). Also the staff is very warm and the owner himself suggests food based one your preferences. I love my experience and I'm definitely going back to try their other global cuisine.

The service was excellent, though it is true, on a Sunday afternoon, the large three room restaurant was empty save for our table.

The stuffed mushrooms and pork were good appetizers. The quantity was more than adequate.

The mains were very homely Anglo-Indian fare. Baked fish in white sauce, baked pasta in sauce and such like. I ate the lamb chops, and found the meat succulent though the sauce was a wee bit too salty. The sides were the usual (mashed potatoes, greens) but fine.

Dessert was the mascarpone ice cream, and good.

After researching on continental restaurant in Kolkata we finally found this one and it didn't not lighten the weight of our wallet. The ambience was quite peaceful and homely as it is situated in a residential area. The decoration was also very soothing.
We took Fish florentine, Chicken Lsagna, Chicken Stroganauf and Pork Cheesarella Each and every item was luscious, but in Cheesearella we expected pork would be fried. Fresh lime soda tasted a bit strange. The fresh brew coffee and the nolen gur flavors of ice- cream were excellent.

I've been to this place all of two times, and let me assure you one thing, I will be going here again and again.

The place is easy to locate, snugly tucked in one of the bylanes of Southern Avenue. The area is spacious enough and with elegant and minimal decor.

The staff is very well behaved and helpful. And service is extremely prompt, so not much to say here.

The first time here was during the Pujas and usually during that time eateries are packed and their quality of food substantially deteriorates and prices hike up and how. But not here. The food quality, quantity and pricing were perfect. There was just two of us and being a tad strapped for cash, we had jumped right in and ordered the main course. We had opted that day for the Roast Chicken in Rosemary Sauce and Chicken Mushroom in Wine Sauce and a bowl of Cream of Chicken soup which is a personal favourite from Mocambo days. And I can tell you that each of the dishes were excellent in flavour, quantity and quality. Albeit, the Cream of Chicken soup was slightly more runny and bit more sweet than I prefer. Other than that no complaints (I'm sure the management will look into my little suggestion.)

The second time I went there with my parents, and my mother is a continental food aficionado and quick to criticise. We began with the Dry Chilli Pork and Bacon Wrapped Chicken, both very very good. And unlike most places, the pork wasn't all fat no meat. And the sizes of the chicken or rashers of bacon were not compromised. Then we went on to the main course - Chicken Stroganoff served with herb rice, Roast Lamb with a side of mashes potatoes and boiled vegetables and Grilled Fish in lemon butter sauce served with a side of boiled vegetables and mashed potatoes. The Stroganoff was beautifully done, the sauce not too sour, just right. The chicken succulent and tender and the rice, a buttery delight. The lamb was a little overdone, but the taste more than made up for it. And the grilled fish was so beautiful that I am going to have wet dreams about it. The mashed potatoes usually remain lumpy or slightly lacking in flavour, but even that was perfect to the T. And after the scrumptious meal we wanted to have some Crème Caramel for dessert, unfortunately it was not available. But, on the plus side, now me and my mother have an added incentive for going back.

All in all, I'll rate this place a smooth 9/10. I'll keep the 1 point for myself, because I managed to remain alive after such an lovely dinner at this amazing restaurant.

Peace.

Finally got the chance to visit The Blue Door today. It was there in my wishlist for long finally got fulfilled. We ordered for chicken cambodian mushroom soup (₹175), cilantro fish (₹275) in starters. For the main course we ordered for Bhetki fish florentine (₹465) and bacon cheesarella (₹350) and for dessert we had Mascarapone cheese with candied fruits icecream (₹175). The portions were generous enough and can be shared by 2. Ambience was sober and pretty good. The stewards were courteous and polite. Taste wise was awesome and definitely this place is a must visit for foodies. Plz note you need to ask for bhetki instead of basa while ordering for florentine. Our icecream was also not on the menu card and it was on the recommendation of steward and loved it.

It's was my birthday and I wanted to try something different this time apart from chinese and north Indian. So I searched through zomato and found this place with impressive reviews.A residential building turned into a small restaurant with simple yet beautiful decoration. As we were trying out Italian food for the first time we cannot suggest whether the food was cooked perfectly or not but they tasted quite good. The cream of chicken soup was in thick white gravy like and moderate in taste. In comparison the Spanish garlic chicken soup was tangy, spicy and tasted better and it came with bread sticks. Cilantro chicken as starter was quite good. Diced chicken in coriander and lemon gives you tangy tasty. In main course we had Fish Florentine and Tetrazzini. Fish Florentine was really really good. Soft basa fish with spinach and lots of cheese. Tetrazzini was also quite good. Spaghetti with white sauce and cheese. But it was too much of cheese for us. Those who love having lot of cheese this is the place for you. Now coming to the negative side of this Restro was the service. It was really slow and they don't even remember what we ordered and kept on coming back asking us and served us Tetrazzini instead of Lasagna (what we ordered). But overall it is must visit.

I wanted to visit this place for a long time and it really did not disappoint. Though I am still not sure why it has been named thus :P. Well its a cozy place (probably someone's house has been turned into the restro) and the staff welcomed us warmly. For starters they suggested us chilli lamb and we also ordered cilantro chicken along with blue lagoon and fresh lime soda to quench our thirst. Then for main course we ordered barbecued pork ribs, chicken mushroom in wine sauce and grilled fish. I did not like the fish that much but the others were delicious and the staff served us properly. My friends were pretty hungry so they also ordered chicken noodles. But there were no choices for desserts so we ordered water melon ice cream and a coke. But I have to say the food was really worth it and the staff is very polite, so I would not mind visiting the blue door again

Very good nice and cosy place. The service is very good and the staff is very helpful. On getting confused of what to order they only helped us in choosing. Again the quality of the food was awesome which was served. The fish was superb in having i.e the taste was too good. The olive chicken was a bit blunt that's why I am rating 4 else would have rated 4.5.
In short the place is nice with good quality of food and average price of item and nice ambience.

I and my friend Sreyasi Banerjee visited The Blue Door today for lunch. We had a Groupon coupon and we had made a booking previously. The location is quite tricky. But by turning on the GPS, we reached the place quickly. It is located opposite to tyagraj hall. As we entered, we were taken to a small room which was well decorated. The ground floor of a building had been converted into a restaurant. The ambience was homely and the waiters highly cooperative. As we got seated, we were served water and a person came up to take our order. He helped us to decide the entire menu.

First we had the Spanish seafood soup. Looked good and tasted great. It was spicy and sour. It contained prawns, squid and octopus and was served with bread sticks. The taste was heavenly. It was so tasty that we even burned our tongue while having it. One of the best soups I had till date.

Then we had Greek chicken salad followed by the starter chicken cilantro. The salad was average, nothing worth mentioning. The starter on the other hand was good. The chicken was soft and had a creamy taste which we liked.

For mains we chose chicken Tetrazzini. It was served in a tray and the quantity was enough for two of us. This dish stood above all the others. The taste was a blast of flavours in the mouth. The spaghetti was well cooked and the chicken was mouth melting. On top of that, cheese was given in ample amount which added to the taste.

Unfortunately the dessert turned out to be a disappointment. Only mango souffle was available and inspite of my desire to have gondhoraj ice cream, we decided to have it. And it failed to impress us with its taste. To say, a not so good ending to a great meal.

Overall the place is great for a dining experience for its calm and homely atmosphere. I would suggest them to work more on the salad and the dessert items. Next time I would like to try out the Oriental dishes here.

Many a times I have passed by this few months old restaurant, which is opposite Thyagraj Hall on Raja Basant Roy Road. Decided to go for a home delivery. Ordered Cilantro fish which was very good, Grilled fish (Bekti) was a little sweetish for my taste, Chicken a la Kiev which was also not bad but found the chicken a little stringy. But their Chicken Tetrazzini was awesome. Just the right amount of cheesy. For dessert their orange soufflé & mango soufflé are definitely recommended.

Even though it's a small place it packs big in flavours. The owner is very affable and makes sure you are having a good time. I had their chicken ala keiv and it was pure heaven. My dad took the roast chicken and it was succulent and flavoursome. Their coconut ice cream was an absolute delight. If you are looking for a place to go with your loved one, one with no frills but a homely and loving ambience this is the place to be.

My meet ups with my friend Pronetri , always revolves around food and we plan almost months in advance where to dine when we meet up. So when I was in Calcutta for the Pujas, we decided to check out this new place which had opened up in Southern Avenue - the new Park Street in the making. The place is a bit tricky to find, but Google Maps saw us through and we reached the place in one piece( just kidding!). Upon arrival we were told that since it was the Pujas, they have a shortened version of their original menu( Such a bummer!). So in spite of deciding to try out their famed Fish Florentine, I couldn't order it since it wasn't in the "Puja" Menu. We sttled for the Gin Chicken Olivetti for starters, and Ayam Bali with Nasi Goreng along with a Chicken Steak for the mains. Gin Chicken Olivetti was excellent!  6 pieces of Chicken stuffed with Olives covered in a luxurious thick sauce . The chicken was tender and not chewy, the olives were fresh and crunchy and the sauce it was covered in was as smooth as smooth can get. It was one hell of a dish and I would recommend each and every person visiting this place to try this dish out. The Chicken Steak was served with a Rosemary Sauce and my friend quite liked it. The dish was complete with grilled veggies and a buttery mash. The chicken, in this case as well, was soft and tender. Ayam Bali with Nasi Goreng: Even though I had tried Nasi Goreng before, it was the Indonesian Chicken Preparation Ayam Bali which blew my mind away. Cuddled in a soft pool of gravy spiced with coconut and other Indonesian spices, the chicken pieces were juicy to the hilt. In the gravy I could hint, coconut, garlic, chilli, a bit of soy as well. The whole dish elevated my Indonesian eating experience to a whole new level and there are days when I still dream of that Ayam Bali. The Nasi Goreng was ordinary but thankfully the ayam bali was so good that I didn't pay much attention to the rice.  Also, when it came to our table, the Nasi Goreng had gone a bit cold and the fried egg on top looked a bit stiff and dry. The Blue Door scores high on the taste and quality of food, location and promptness. However, a couple of times I had to ask for the fork/spoon. But that's okay, since it was the Puja time and I understand that they were really busy and trying their best.I would have liked for this place to have a better decor may be, since when you eat here( which looks like a flat converted to a restaurant), you don't really get the feel of fine dining, or at least eating at a Bistro, even though the prices are equal to that of a standard Bistro. May be they can really vamp that space up and add some tasteful decor pieces. And also, the menu should not be changed during festivals. The manpower should be increased instead of shortening the offerings. May be I will go back for the Fish Florentine and the Moussaka( only if a chicken variant is available).Food: 4/5

Great food and very pocket friendly. I was totally stuffed :D

If you want to treat your friend take him/her here, provided she has a palate for Continental or Thai food.

Food: The cooking and garnishing is better than many at this level. I cannot recommend aything specific as they have a huge variety and I have not tried them all. I had dry chilly baby corn, Lasagna, Shepherd's pie. Mutton Goulash and can't really complain much, which is great!

Service: prompt service and attentive waiters. They will take some time to prepare the food though.

Ambiance: Its an old house in the heart of South Kolkata that’s turned into a restaurant, u'll notice instantly. A very homely experience. They can probably work on their chairs and tables though(can be made more comfortable)

Verdict: Definitely a place to be. Visit if you haven't yet and definitely revisit! It a bit off beat from the main crowd, you can definitely have a quiet evening.

It is a cute boutique restro. Almost looks similar to 'The Mango Tree' and has simplistic decor.
One thing that I had a problem with was the menu. There are not much items you can choose from, it's a bit confusing as to which dish is a meal and which is a side. Although the waiters do explain it all, I still think the menu should be revamped.
Now the food. They have less items on menu, and hence evry dish is really well made.
We took a 'Fish Florentine ( Basa)'; i swear I have never tasted an Italian dish that is so rich in taste before. The actual flavor of the basa could still be tasted among thick layers of cheese and cream. That for me was a brilliant dish.
Some other dishes we had were Chicken Lasagne, Roast chicken with rosemary sauce and some rice with Chicken mushroom in wine sauce.
Chicken lasagne again was done well. But the roasted chicken although prepared well, the rosemary sauce overpowered it and somehow marred the taste.
Lastly we took the Gondhoraj ice cream for dessert. Fantastic!
For it's location and good amounts of serving, the price is reasonable, but I hope they introduce some more dishes as well.

Located on a quaint corner of Raja Basanta Roy Road close to the southern avenue exit, Blue Door offers an outlet from the conventional and usual fare available in most restaurants..With a host of unique dishes packed with off beat flavours this place surely provides an option to foodies to experiment with their appetite..
Coming to the ambiance, well thsi place actually don't looks like a restaurant.. situated on the ground floor of a typical bengali house, it hasnt even been renovated or decorated much to synchronise with the theme of the spread served here..There are small adjacent rooms with few tables in each and even the walls and the furnitures suggest a homely atmosphere to enjoy your meal..
Since it was late in the afternoon there wasnt much crowd, so the servers were prompt and attentive..Coming to the food we ordered:
Fish Cilantro: Basically a pan fried fish preparation with the added flavour of cilantro leaves..Loved the crispness of the fish and the addition of cilnatro defintely adds a new dimension to an otherwise known preparation..
Ayam Bali with Nasi Goreng: Well the flagship dish of Indonesia, Nasi Goreng rice was truly a revelation..loved the hotness quotient of the dish, no doubt a bit too spicy and kind of provides a kick to your taste buds..Ayam Bali was basically a chicken side dish prepared in a creamy coconut gravy..was a tad too sweet for my liking..
Grilled Fish: Served in a base of lemon butter sauce with smashed potatoes and sauted veggies, a generous portion of Basa fish well done and tasted fresh..at the same time the original flvaour of the fish was retained..
Gondhoraj Icecream: We wanted nolen gur souffle which was sadly not available but after tasting this desert I simply have no regret..marvellous..one of the best flavours of ice cream I have ever tasted in my life..loved the subtlety of the gondhoraj lebu which kind of holds the dish together..Passionately Recommended..
Overall it was a nice little experience quite apt to the ambiance, hearty, wholesome but nothing extravagant..Only thing I felt was the price a tad on the higher side..Our total cheque comes to Rs.1090/- for two people and they dont seem to charge any extra tax..so there gets a brownie point..

Well the door isn't blue as I expected it to be, but the food was definitely as good as my expectations.
The mutton lasagne was perfectly al denté but I missed the caramelized bits at the sides which I love. The roast lamb too was very good, but the meat could have been just a tad more tender.
However, it can be difficult to locate this place who are not too familiar with the area. Also, the walls, furniture and everything look too plain and don't give the sense of eating out, it feels more like a good meal in a dining room of any house.

The blue door remains true to its interesting name in terms of its range and selection of menu. There's something for every soul. We ordered veg stroganoff, freshly brewed coffee ice cream and mascarpone cheese with candied fruits. We fell in love with all the items that we ordered. The veg stroganoff was a combination of flavoured rice and a creamy mushroom and mixed bellpaper curry tossed in wine. The cheese mascarpone ice cream was the clear winner. The ambience is quite homely and the decor exudes understated elegance.
I will be visiting this place again.
My only gripe is the location. It is quite a tedious job to identify the location and have the chance of going unnoticed majorly because of an odd vicinity.

A tucked away place near southern avenue, this came highly recommended. Thus, when a trip to Calcutta came about, we decided we should have a meal here.

The food is good and the place is small and cute so that you can get individual attention.

But the good points end here. There are a couple of things that this place needs to improve upon asap.

The first - service is really, really slow. I am not sure whether they have a small kitchen or a lack of appliances but at a table of five the food came in a linear manner which meant by the time the last person got their food, the first person had finished eating and was twiddling their thumbs.

The second - we ordered a veg moussaka and got a mutton one instead with the person attending to us insisting that we didn't mention veg. We chose to pack it and take it home rather than create a scene there.

Overall, some key things that need to be addressed immediately.

It's cozy, it's pretty, the food is amazing, the portions are great, and it is great value for money. The ambiance is very homely and comfortable and the small number of tables just adds to that. We ordered the jalapeño poppers and gin chicken olivetti for starters. The dressing for the chicken was extremely delicious and the meat was very tender. It is a thing you must try here. For the main course we had the ayam bali, cannolini and stroganoff. The portions are sufficient for the average appetite after the starters. The stroganoff was very rich and creamy, the cannolini had a punchy stuffing with a nice helping of cheese on the top and ayam bali, quite strong with the coconut flavour, was quite tasty too. The only negative is that the service is a little slow and hence your meals may take longer. But apart from that, it's a must visit.

I have been here once, so can't give a proper review of the place. The restaurant is very small , which makes it look like a dining room of a house. The Cannelloni and Soufle is absolutely brilliant
