Great humble basic south Indian place for idli vada dosa coffee. Its a popular place just the location... It is hard to spot from the main road. Chutneys are fresh and not taken out of the fridge!... and are refilled which is a rarity I see in kolkata south Indian places. Overall I think it is my next go to for south Indian cravings at a very reasonable price.
Another browny point and star for their eco friendly serveware in leaf plates and on plantain leaves. ⭐
If you've ever had South Indian food in both India then you have to try this place when in Kolkata. Located on a residential area this small cut-out of a shop is always packed and rightly so. They serve exclusively South Indian food like idly, vada, dosa, uthapam, poha with sambhar and classic chutneys (sauces). I was surprised at the amount of taste stimulation one bowl of sambhar could do. Their Masala rava butter dosa was a delight. I've never had dahi vada the way they made it and the idly was just so fluffy. This place does not deliver but they do take take out orders. Loved the whole experience. Recommended 100%. No reservations, first come -first served basis of order. Must try when in Kolkata.
P.s. I was so busy stuffing my face with all that deliciousness that I completely forgot I click pictures of food and am that kinda foodie. Lol
Best south Indian food in salt lake at very affordable price.
Best south indian joint ever. Must try for all south-indian food lovers.I go for idlis, lunch thali and tomato rice usually. They have a wide collection of dosas too. Food is always cooked with fresh ingredients. Outlet stays crowded mostly so I prefer home delivery which they deliver very quickly(zomato delivery option is not there). Owner and staffs are polite.
A total value for money place. It's uncomfortable dining here in the summers. Cleanliness is not that upto the mark. Quality of food is excellent. Home delivery is recommended ( dosas may get saggy) Outdoor seating available
this place is perfect for a tasty and affordable South Indian meal. best for every meal. they have variety of dosa in which my fav is mysore maslaa dosa. the idli are quite soft, fluffy n tasty and yess the sambhar is perfect with its perfect texture and spices. i love this place. dahi wada, sambhar wada are also tasty.
A Local road side food joint which i think is hidden gem. This place was suggested to me by my friend and i am still thank full to him. This place serves best south indian food in salt lake we tried there mysoor masala cheese dosa, Pizza Uttapam and Filter coffee. Both dosa and uttapam were best and filter coffee was very tasty
Best place for pocket friendly and delicious and satisfying south Indian food . Do try their cheese masala Dosa and dahi vada .
I love their soft idli and crispy vada the most
Dahi vada - medu vada dipped in chilled curd and topped with sev and sweet chutney and a pinch of masala. Oh ! It's so yummy! After a single bite you will keep wanting more !!!!!
All there items are really good and is always served with coconut chutney, onion chutney and sambhar.
People love their meals too 😊😊
It's a great place - at good price !
A small roadside joint located in HB block of Salt Lake, a few minutes' walk from Big Bazaar and Carnival Cinemas.
An underrated unassuming place of only one table and a couple of chairs scattered on the footpath, the place is known for their yummy South Indian food. Scanty seating arrangement is available inside as well.
We tried the MYSORE MASALA DOSA, PLAIN MASALA DOSA and I personally the COFFEE at the place itself and the MOLAGAPODI MASALA DOSA and PIZZA UTTAPAM as takeaway.
The dosas were fresh and well made, the sambar was rather average to me but the chutneys were all quite tasteful to go with the dosas.
The pizza uttapam was uniquely brimming with a pleasant South Indian flavour coupled with the taste of pizza. A good option for those looking for a variety in uttapams.
The freshly-brewed filter coffee had been amazing, having the right amount of sweetness just the way I like.
The only shortcoming about this place is the shortage and lack of enough seating arrangement such that customers have to wait for a long time to grab the only table available. We were occupying the table for I was having my coffee and waiting for our takeaway parcels and the payment at the same time, but we were brashly asked to shift to the single chairs and leave the table by a group of youths due to which we got into an unnecessary squabble and the staff seemed flabbergasted as to what to do with their guests. Also earlier while we had been in the middle of our meal we'd been asked by the server to leave our table as per the instruction of a guy in the group, which I had found quite an offensive and inappropriate gesture towards a customer still engaged in eating.
The eatery authorities should see that further such unethical arguments do not occur over seats else their reputation might get hampered.
Giving a 4 star solely because of the food and polite but unprofessional staff else would have rated it 1.
I ordered food from this shop
And it was upto my expectations
I ordered uttapam , dahi vada, and lemon rice
All were awsum in taste and quantity
This shop is pocket friendly also
Do try the above items for sure :)
Mouth watering and Yummy south indian food. The cost is also very affordable. Best for food delivery at home. Try out the moglapodi paper masala dosa.
Excellent place for south indian foods... Variety of dosas.... Yummy coffee.... Also provides home delivery (nearby places)... There are chair tables one can enjoy eating there also..
Such a hygienic, tasty and extra reasonable place to have South Indian Food in Salt Lake City. It's worth is much more than the price they charge. Go for this place any day.
Located just some steps from Downtown mall, a small shop is located. Awesome South Indian flavors. Bliss for South Indian lovers and for vegetarians too. Crispy dosa and tasty sambar. That also in a very low budget. We ordered masala dosa, which later came to be plain paper masala dosa just for 45/- and Onion Uttapam for 50/-. Which was really good. Surely visit the place again
As a fan of South Indian cuisine, it can be quite a daunting task to appease to my taste buds.
But Shiv Sai does it and does it really well.
The authentic hot flavourful sambhar, the steaming idlis and wafer thin & crispy roast dosas will make sure you keep coming back for more.
Definitely one of the best places to gorge on South Indian food in Salt Lake, if not in Kolkata.
I give it a two thumbs UP!
This place is located just near carnival cinemas saltlake. This place is just amazing, I mean the food quality is upto the mark and the taste is mind-blowing! I ordered onion uttapam and plain paper masala dosa which were served with three kind of dips and sambar. The combination was heavenly ❤️
Authentic south Indian food. Though not much space for sitting available at the outlet. Gd for Morning food. If you want to enjoy hot dosa, uttapam or filter coffee, this is the place. Reasonably priced.
Small shop .. Authentic Tamil Food available here .. bit crowded .. have to wait for seats during holidays... hotel owner frm Kumbakonam ... hot served food ..
This is a very small joint, there are just one to two tables placed inside. But one shouldn't mistake it's appearance and conclude that it's food is bad. You will not find a better place for South Indian in Kolkata.
Every dosa combination you can think of is available here. They also serve three chutneys , white red and green. The dosas are very filling. The prices are too good to be true. The quality of food is at the highest level. I go here once a week at least for some of that South Indian goodness.
Authentic dosas in Kolkata. I am from Chennai so I know my dosas. I have tried dosas all over Kolkata and I have concluded that this is the best there is.
I have friends who come here from ballygunge which is like 15 kms away but it's always worth it.
You can also get your food inside your car which is what most of the people do. The service is very prompt.
The owner is extremely humble and nice too.
Overall it's the best there is for South Indian in Kolkata when you're on a budget and even when you're not.
Also after your food is done, stick around and have some of the 'kapi' or coffee for some of you fancy folks.
Prepare to be amazed.
The best thing on their menu is their Dahi Vada. One of my fav dishes anyway and they make it really well. The Uttapams and all kinds of flavoured rice are also good.
Filter coffee is a must on our table after we finish our meal. Good closure to a good meal always.
This rating is solely based on the food.
Its a small South Indian joint near Big Bazaar with two tables of seating space inside and one table outside. People generally come in their cars and have their food inside it.
We had Molagoppadi Masala Dosa and Onion, tomato, capsicum uttapam.
Both the dishes were excellent. They serve it in traditional banana leaves with three types of chutney and sambhar.
I have tried many dishes here and all were equally good.
A must must visit place.
Loveeee the Dahi Vada, its served with crispy bhujia on top which goes very well with the taste. The uttapam is good and the lemon rice is made very authentically. You should remember to tell them to make the uttapam thin and the lemon rice with less oil. Other than that, the taste is kick ass.
A perfect joint to satisfy your south indian food hunger. An authentic blast of flavour in your mouth . Their service is very good and at speed. Tried rawa paneer dosa and butter masala dosa.
It's very fulfilling at such a nominal rate.
Excellent taste....all type dosa and tasty South indian meal in after noon.....just love this place..highly recommend...and yes don't go with shop look...just taste the food..
I like this place. They serve some really good south Indian food at low prices. My favourites are the upma and the cheese Rawa dosa. And of course, the south indian filter coffee.
Good place to have south Indian dishes.. They cook 100 type of dhosa. Various type of idli, vada and many more. The coffee is too good. All the food is true value of your money. If you are a South food lover this place is for you guyz.
This is such a little place, not decorated at all. But provide the best south indian dishes I had tasted ever!
They serve too good dosa with three kinds of chutneys. Their coffee is great too in such a low price. Last week tried their rava kessari and it was awesome.
So pocket friendly in this locality.

This place never fail to disappoint even if you have ravenous hunger. I ordered cheese masala dosa and rava kesri today. Delivery was within 10 minutes. Packaging was perfect and food was lipsmacking.
Its a life saver..This place makes authentic South Indian dishes at totally affordable prices...Love their filter coffee, Onion cheese dosa & Dahi vada..
One of the best South Indian food shop in Salt Lake area, food is tasty and affordable also, You will get best dosa, masala dosa, vada, idly, meals from here
Amazingly delicious food. Best place to oder from when you craving for South Indian food or just go there and enjoy the coffee along with some fried idlis. Just so perfect. This has been an escape place for all the hostelites.
Best and most reasonable south Indian food in Salt lake. Favourite among people of all age group. Crowded at any time of the day specialy on weekends.

This little joint serves the best South Indian food....
Very budget friendly
Totally satisfies your taste buds
Dahi Vada, Mysore masala dosa, lemon rice are my go to....
And their FILTER COFFEE is amazing
Hidden in the lanes of Salt Lake, this joint provides you with lip smacking South Indian food at decent rates. The filter coffee is great. The place lacks ample seating arrangement but the food definitely makes up for it. Oh, they provide home delivery too!
Roadside eatery serving almost the best South Indian I have had in the recent past!! They make the best Mysore Masala dosa in town! The prices are very reasonable and sitting and service is very basic. They had a number of orders pending and were not willing to serve us coffee but a little persuasion and they managed to make amazing filter coffee!! A good eatery, perfect for breakfast or evening snacks!
Taste seems authentic compared to any other south Indian restaurants in Kolkata. Must visit place for everyone. Loved the Mysore masala BTW . Great place !!!
Small place with amazing quality food.
Menu is South Indian special.
The dishes from dosaa..Medu wada.dahi wada all are just amazing.. the sambar is equally good..
Freshly made food..Served with different chutney.( Sour spicy etc)
Quality food with very reasonable price..
Very friendly staff..
I wasn't a dosa lover until i discovered this place they make some awfully delicious dosa's. The ambience is not up to the mark as its not a restaurant though according to its price is good.
Price is less and food is awesome. It fills the tummy and makes you feel satisfied. I love the masala dosa here.
The dahi vada is also quite good
Located at HB Block in Sector 3, Salt Lake ( near Big Bazaar ) this is a great place to have south Indian dishes . Their interiors & ambiance have nothing to talk about but the food is of top quality . Served on a banana leaf the dosa , uttapam , vada etc are simply outstanding & at their prices it's a great value for money . Sitting arrangement consists of only two 4×4 tables & your food will be prepared right in front of your eyes ( the place is so small , wish they had a bigger place ) . Home delivery is also available but only for nearby places . Don't get distracted by the looks of this place & enjoy their delicacies .

I am a very loyal to this food joint... whenever I need to munch anything I just ask them to serve. Actually the restaurant belongs to my house only. So it's just a order away to get food for me. Generally I order their plain butter dosa with extra maska....I just love it....the owner Sanjay is just brother like to me. Thanks for everything Sanjay. Actually right now also I am munching my favorite butter plain dosa....
The lack of space and fancy ambience at Shiv Sai is more than made up for by their wonderfully comforting food and service. Try their filter coffee and double butter (trust me!) dosa, and end your meal with their rawa kesari.
It's a small street side south Indian food stall. Its not beautifully decorated but they do maintain good quality. Foods are very tasty, staffs are also attentive and polite. They serve food in leaf plate and serve extra chatni too.
My all time Fav when it comes to SouthIndian with Desi taSte.. Love this place .. just 1 complain' Anna Ac laga lo aaBh ,aur nei baitha jata garmi mae♡ Radhika Singhania
It offers best South Indian food in and around salt lake. I ordered from here frequently. My favorite - plain idli, plain bora, masala dhosa. They serves them with sambar, coconut chutney, red chutney. Red chutney is very nice. Price is very reasonable.
Recommended for Budget dining and South Indian food.
This small place is tucked away in Sector - 3, Salt Lake nearby the Carnival Cinemas. You can ask anyone near Carnival Cinemas for the way to Shiv Sai. At the first sight, it may look as a shack but one should not be mistaken by the look because the food here is absolutely awesome and delicious. Moreover, the place is quite clean and hygienic.
The place gets crowded at the peak hours as it has limited seating capacity and is thronged by a lot of students. This place serves Dosa, Uttapam, Idly Vada, Curd Rice and other South Indian dishes. Dosa can be ordered in various combination of cheese, masala, molagapoddi, rava etc. according to one's preference. The dishes are prepared fresh and served hot with unlimited amount of chutney and sambar, added with a smile from the staff. Filter coffee and Rava Keshari is a must try.
This place is pocket friendly as it is super cheap and the taste and quantity is value for money visit in Salt Lake.
Worth a daily snack ! Must try for locals .
The customisation options available are very economic. The place is like any other roadside shack, but the food is worth it!
Favorite place of Noojies for Dosas and all! The taste of Dosas and coffee is at a completely different level! Since the time I have visited this place, it is there on my weekly visit schedule!
Best place to have south indian food. Oviously you will find the taste of kolkata food. If you are near carnival cinemas. You can give it a try. You will not be disappointed. 😀
I have been regular to those place for almost three years now. The menu is all South Indian and everything is good. Try any of their dosas, uttapam, vada, anything, you won't be disappointed. For people in search of a sumptuous and filling, try their Thai which serves unlimited food. And after you have had you meal, please try Rava Kaesari and filter coffee.
I have always been a fan of South Indian food, and after living in Bangalore for several years and being introduced to several dishes there, I craved for the taste of authentic South Indian dishes in Kolkata. After much research and reading the great reviews on zomato I decided to try out this place. We got food delivered at home. The menu offered a variety of dishes, various types of dosas, idlis, utthapams and rice. We decided to go for Masala dosa. And must say I am super happy. Everything was perfect, the masala filling, the thick coconut chutney, the perfect blend of spices in the sambhar. And they serve generous portions of chutney and sambhar. I am definitely going to try out the other dishes soon.
My love for south indian food is eternal and this will last forever for sure with the help of places like Shiv Sai snacks.
A pure vegetarian place for South Indian food options.
##Location:
HB block near Carnival Cinemas.
##Experience:
I always had a pleasant experience every time I visit this place specially because of the cordial behavior of the owners of this place. As the owners are from Tamil origin they have kept the authenticity alive with the preparation styles its not Kolkata style south indian food rather its close to the pure ones.
A wide range of variety in dosa,Idlies , Uttapam,Vada is added in their offerings which is served fresh as its made right after you order .Also the filter coffee is worth a mention as it is quite refreshing and must try here.
Will surely come back again and again .

Not so impressive looking place, but their Dosas and Filter Coffee is to die for. Been here more than an year back and I am still impressed with the homely feeling this place has. The Dosa was super yummy and served on a banana leaf. The filter coffee was absolutely brilliant with no words for its praise. The pricing is super cheap as well and won't hurt your pockets. If anyone is looking for a decent joint serving South Indian staples, please do drop in here.

Tucked away in the lanes of Salt Lake. This little joint might not look appealing but DO NOT hesitate!! They serve the best ever south indian snacks ever! Their filter coffee is too die for....they are rated okay and their quantity is quite filling. They even offer home deliveries. Overlook the hygiene of the place and the rushed nature of the staff.
Located at salt lake sector 3, this place is situated very close to Carnival cinemas. Since it is in close vicinity of my college hence we kept visiting it all through our college years. A humble shack run by a jovial couple of Tamil roots this place is a strict vegetarian outlet serving dosa, uttampam, idlis of different styles. (Cheese, plain, masala, butter etc)The food here is made right after you order so it's absolutely fresh. The cheese masala dosa is my personal favorite. 😍 The filter coffee served here is authentic as well. The attendants are very polite and efficient. One can take n number of helpings of chutney/ sambar without a single frown on the server's face. One of the best south Indian food outlets in Calcutta according to me. Must try.
A small South Indian food outlet. I find it really good both quantity and quality wise. Look wise the shop may not be appealing but the food is really good. Love their Rava Dosas and Vadas. They make it in front of you, so no question of it being unhygienic, you can see while it is being made. They also provide home delivery which is an additional benefit.
Just saw this place being seated in car mentioning south Indian and felt like laughing looking at the ambiance but when noticed this place and people seated there I immediately changed my mind to visit this place once and finally I could managed to visit this place . Ordered mysore masala dona which was served in bannana leaf placed on a pattal. Dosa was awesome as expected and chutney was made from pure coconut whereas in other good places also you will find that chutney is prepared from dal and coconut. Price is reasonable and you get various varieties of dosa , uttapam , rice and meal with great service.
A small south Indian tiffin house located within a 2 min walk from the lane just opposite downtown mall. Amazing food, friendly staff.
Must try - Rava Dosa, Molagapodi Dosa, Fried Idly, Lunch/Dinner Meals.
Items are fresh, no leftover is used.
Must visit !!
Awesome place. Visited a lot of times for dosa. It's really cheap and has good quality food. If you want authentic south Indian food in the locality do give a visit
Good stuff and reasonably priced. Great place for a takeaway or home delivery. I ordered idli, dahi vada and a mixed uttapam. Sambhar and chutney was quite delicious. There was a tomato chutney that came along with the food which was a nice addition.
A good place for day to day eating, there south Indian variety is good. Even the thali system they have they add south Indian taste which is also good.. reasonably good
Pretty difficult to find the place without google maps. Even the local rickshaw wallas are confused.
But as soon as your dishes reach your table it's like WOW. Doesn't have seating arrangement more than 8 people but the taste compensates the inconvenience.
Obviously it cannot be called an authentic South Indian food joint but serves varieties of dishes keeping in mind the taste preferences of Non South Indians. Not to miss the Mixed Uttapams and Dahi Vadas.
Its a small place ......but the food is delicious. The sambar idli dhosa upma all are amazing. There are other dishes which are purely tamil food ....proper south indian lunch n all. A very good place for south indians in kolkata. Chutney is nt that great. For south indian one must visit
Shiv Sai is like a second mother for south Indians especially Tamil staying in Kolkata. We have our weekend lunch usually here. Saambaar, rasam, kaarakuzhambu , appalam with rice and kootu, poriyal available here for an affordable price.
Nice Place to eat..if you are not looking a for a ambiance. Tasty South Indian foods. Eat as much as you can will not cost you much. Ate idli, pongal, ravva ghee dhosa, cheese onion dhosa which ended with cofee. Nice Lunch!!
A small joint. Located just opposite of carnival cinemas building lane in saltlake city. South Indian cuisine is available. Food is great in means of quality as well as quantity. I just love it vada and sambar.
A good place to start your day with south indian savours. Idli, dosa, upma all the mouth watering yet healthy too are being served piping hot and fresh with lovely coconut chutney and tomato chutney as well.
If you want good South Indian food - this is the place to be. Seating arrangement not standard but food quality is amazing. Food is cheap. Its a paradise for all PGs around specially for people from south. Keep it up
A proper south Indian joint.. Good thing about this place is the variety of south Indian food you get like sambar rice, lemon rice, pongal etc in addition to the usual idli, dosa etc you will get in other south indian joints across Kolkata. A negative that can be said is lack of proper ambience of a hotel. However, it is more than compensated by the taste and quality of food served. Will recommend this to anyone who likes south Indian food.
Cheap, tasty and amazing south Indian food... The upma is really good and also the various dosas... U get two kinds of chutney. It's not very overpriced and also provides home delivery at a minimal cost... The delivery is also fast so it is worth going... It could have been five stars if the sambhar would have improved a bit and the seating and Ambien inside could be improved. Overall its a great place to order breakfast from if you live in salt lake... :)
Review : Ahhaannn South Indian mama...
Super Masala Dosa... Lovely tasty masala dosa and in most of the shop we get only two chutnis as samvar and the chutney , but here we get an extra chutney as "tamatar chutney" and thats really tasty...
Presentation : Nicely made and presented with banana leaf.
Price : Not much expensive only rs 45 for masala dosha..
Ratting : I will rate 4/5.
Rmb review.: perespective may matter.
Located near the EZCC Big Bazaar, the inconspicuous and unimpressive-looking eatery going by the name of 'Shiv Sai Snacks' is anything but inviting. However, if you let go of your inhibitions, step into this cosy place with plastic tables and chairs, and savour the food, you will realise that looks truly are deceiving.
I have been frequenting the joint since my school days and I absolutely adore the food they make. Crispy yet less oily, their dosas are authentic and delicious. They serve generous amounts of chutney and sambhar (both spot on with their flavours) an unlimited number of times - something I love to see in South Indian restaurants. The idlis and vadas are quite large and filling.
Run by a friendly South-Indian lady, low on manpower, the small place is not ideal for home-delivery but if you love your dosa being swiftly served to you on banana leaves, do give it a try :)
This place is located in the residential areas of HB Block, Sector III, Saltlake, probably 2 minutes walk from Kulraj Broadway towards GD Island. This is an authentic South Indian food joint.
The most positive point of this joint is that they have a wide range of items quite unlike from the rest of the South Indian food joints in Kolkata. I had their Sada Dhosa, Masala Dhosa and Onion Tomato Uttapam and this place is quite close to my Institute. I must admit one thing that the Sambar prepared by them is too good. My friend who tries to avoid sour taste always, liked their Sambar a lot and yes, their rich and thick coconut chatney was also good with a good aroma. I did not like their Onion Chatney as It does not suit me, I guess. I want to try out their rice items on my subsequent visits.
It is a non AC food joint with an average seating arrangement. They use banana leaf plates to serve foods which is quite compatible with the South Indian ambiance. They do not have the typical restaurant ambiance, it is a canteen sort of place. I think that their price is on the higher side.
I just prefer to give them 3.5 not because of their ambiance or a bit high price but just for serving a good South Indian food.
One of the best South Indian Food, I ever had. Could not wait to eat something here whenever I passby.
Nearby Salt Lake residents know the scarcity of comfort foods at this reasonable price. The proximal blocks had no such highly standardized, particularly good and very basic Telugu & Tamil eateries.
Awesome food.. really enjoying it.... 1st time try to rava dosa which one soo good flavourfull crunchy... Must try 😁
Great South Indian food joint at Salt Lake, usually people opt to take away but I prefer to eat at the place. Fantastic Idly, Dosa and many other options at the best prices. One of the best quality South Indian places in Kolkata. Limited seating option and a simple setup. Don't expect a restaurant-like ambience, not a restaurant really, food is the key.
Aunthentic South indian food is rare in Kolkata...Tried the idli's and it immediately reminded me of the idlis I had in had in Chennai in Adyar. Have always missed that taste....white chutney and Sambhar is equally superb..Tried Rawa Dosa as well..they were sumptuous too..I recommend it wholeheartedly..
The warmest place in Saltlake where simplicity and tranquility of every single person associated with this place makes you feel at home. Every single dish they serve is made with heartful love. The best south Indian food I have ever had in my life. That's the new go to place for me and my partner.
Best place for authentic Idli-Dosa....although sambhar has been modified as per Kolkata taste. Still, its food is very tasty...
Awesome taste. Must try Dahi bara. 50/- you just love it.
Good South Indian breakfast. Coffee and dosa is must have. Ambience could have been bit improved and also the seating capacity. Parking can be done on the road as shown in the below image.
Nice hotel for South Indian food with the same taste.
Authentic and tasty south indian food, specially dhosa , but mysore dhosa is too much spicy. A good place to try south indian food. Butter cheese onion dhosa is wow.. i personally don't like the taste of their alo masala.
Love the crispy Ness and taste of the dhosha itself.
Filter coffee is outstanding.
