Dilruba restaurant is a small place just beside darpana cinema hall(currently closed). Its a very old place in hatibagan and it has been remodeled just previous year during puja. The price and the quality of food remains the same throughout all these years and I don't need to complain about it. Please try this if you are really into fries, kabirajis and mughlai paratha. Won't recommend it for chinese items though. The delivery is fast and well packed. In this lockdown i really cherished ordering from here. Hygiene maintenance was also unexpectedly good.
Awesome food and Ambient Restaurant atmosphere.
Had been planning to order from this restaurant - Dilruba (the name’s quite enticing) based somewhere in Shyam Bazar and D-day finally arrived!
Ordered a Chilli Mushroom Gravy as well as a Veg Fried Rice for delivery from this place – and indeed, the same was a complete meal!
Packaging is very neat, so is the food preparation! Their veg fried rice was so neatly prepared that it was more of an eye candy – and the same served in such humongous quantity which was easily sufficient for two! Yes, they did not put too many chopped veggies – but they maintained the taste whilst using minimum oil – Hats off!
Coming to the mushrooms, pretty tender – just fine on taste – gravy was pretty tasty also! As requested, they refrained from adding unnecessary chilies to this dish and making it inedible! Only stuff which I felt could improve is the mushroom quality!
Pocket pinch is pretty acceptable – overall, pretty content!
Cheers!

Quite old shop at Shyambazar but they've renovated it and made a new sitting area inside with lovely lights and decorations though the services are little slow. I went there with my family.
We took:
◆Chicken Chow
◆Garlic Chicken
◆Chicken Fried Rice
The quantity was good and the quality too as per the price. It's quite cheap in this area.
One of the oldest shop in Hatibagan area that serves all type of typical bengali quick bite items like mughlai paratha, kaviraji, fries for years.
So when I saw this place on Uber Eats, I hardly resist myself from ordering my favourite snacks. I ordered -
1. Mughlai Paratha - Thin crispy layer of paratha with filling of minced chicken & egg. The filling was pretty compact but could have been better if the portion of chicken increased. The provides aloo curry & salad in separate plastic bag.
2. Paneer Babu Fry - Most of the people don't like to have paneer as fry but believe me, if you really want to try something new then this dish is specifically for you. Even cut paneer with little batter coating. Love it.
3. Fish Finger - One plate contains six pieces of fingers. The uses basa fish as main ingredient. The coating is little bit thick but really crispy. Must try item here.
So in conclusion I must say this legendary place is really worthy trying. With low price tag and tasty food, this place is worthy by each and every penny.
My parents met each other at this restaurant for the first time. It's a landmark for my family. When I was a little girl, the foods were tasty and till date, same tradition continues. Visited for yesterday's dinner. Mutton Kabiraji and Mutton Stew is to die for ❤️
Dilruba.. Itz a small joint located in Shyambazar near the Darpana Cinema.. The quick bites available here are really good.. We had the Fish Kabiraji which was really tasty and size was good too.. Try out the other dishes too.. Happy Fooding :-)

Never judge a book by it's cover is what perfectly describes this place. A small restaurant with limited seats n a touch of tradition. Serving awesome food even on the busiest nights of Durga puja and making people rather their bellies satisfied. An absolute delicacy amidst one of the famous places of North Kolkata. Keep up the traditional way of serving food. Thank you for giving us the memorable experience😊😊
This is small place, but their foods are really good. All foods are very tasty. Ambience is good. Staff's behaviour was good. This is quick bites. I loved all the food they served.
Must try Afghani, babu fry and mangsher singara(Sunday Morning) here. This restaurant is almost 72 years old and has a good ambiance.Overall a very well pocket friendly family restaurant.
This is one of my fav restaurants in shyambaxar,. Anytime in shyambaxar I visit this place. This places gravy noodles is my fav😋 along wd many more❤.
An old restaurant bt wd an evergreen auro❤😍❤
This place is good for kabiraji moghlai foods.. if u like kabiraji types foods then u should go there.. a old resturant with nostalgiac place
Ordered mughlai paratha through uber eats..it was really delicious.highly recommended.forgot to take photos as it was very tasty.
Crispy outside & fully cooked inside..it was just perfect
There's something special about North Kolkata. The nostalgic look of hundreds of century-old buildings, hand rickshaw, narrow little lanes connecting old Kolkata like a spiders web are the charm of this place.
So some of the restaurants serving years after years, till date maintaining closest quality food of those old days at an affordable price are the pride of North Kolkata. Dilruba is one of those old restaurant.
I had enough from those fancy expensive restaurants, but after trying these old places I remember the food, I remember the moment and I feel every bit of the old Kolkata.
Chicken Kabiraji @ Rs.85 (5/5) :
-------------------------------------------
Wow! It was big. The Kabiraji was covering almost every inches of the plate. I haven't seen this big of Kabiraji before. A cut with the knife and the crispiness of the layers was felt. Inside stuffing felt so nice and fluffy, no hard chicken pieces felt, it was mashed so well that only the flavour was present. Dipping it in traditional Kolkata style pungent mustard sauce made it taste just wonderful.
Chicken Chowmein Hakka @ Rs.90 (5/5) :
--------------------------------------------------------
Unlike every other place here the Indo Chinese Chowmein was completely mild. But don't know how it tasted just wonderful. Thin noodles very lightly tossed with fine sliced onion and carrots and topped with some spring onions, it had it's distinct flavour. They didn't compromise adding chicken chunks in it, so it felt quite filling too.
With unbeatable authentic taste of North Kolkata, here comes the unbeatable price. This place is extremely affordable. With the generation change they now serve some combos too.
Conclusion :
-------------------
If you're from North Kolkata and haven't tried this place yet, Oh! God you don't know what you're missing. If you're from South Kolkata, please come and feel the simplicity of old Kolkata dining and it's wonderful flavours.
Excellent place... Bit tough to locate due to hawkers on the footpath.. just after Darpana cinema hall in hatibagan Kolkata.. they have both AC and no AC facility.. service is prompt and friendly.. Kabiraji is a must try.. as well as different fried item like cutlet, fish fry etc. Soothing music with delicious food and ambience.
Ordered home delivery!!
We ordered two mughlai paratha.
Food was good. Dilruba is one of the oldest restaurant in shyam bazar.
Happy fooding 😊
Dilruba Restaurant is one of the age old restaurant located in the Shyambazar area. It is very close to Hatibagan Shyambazar crossing. There is an ac section apart from their non ac section. Visited this eatery last week after some shopping with my mom. We opted for the non ac sitting area. The decor is ordinary with not so spacious sitting arrangements.
We tried :
🔹Fish kabiraji
🔹Mutton Cutlet
Well the kabiraji was good, nothing extraordinary though. But the showstopper was the mutton cutlet. There was great amount of minced mutton inside the cutlet, and the coating was also great. Definitely value for money. Staffs are courteous. Prices are absolutely affordable. Recommended.
It is a hidden gem.If you are a lover of the old Kolkata charm then please visit this small restaurant in hatibagan.you won't get a fancy dining experience but a homely age old environment.Today I want to focus about their pudding.Yes the PUDDING!!!!It is not written in the menu but displayed on a sticker on the wall.Believe me it is GOOD!!Perfect gooey, dense yellow pudding!!!!It was a little chilled suitable for me.and all of the goodness came for only rs 50/-.It was like having a pudding made by an old gradma.
Good food at reasonable cost. It is situated at hatibagan but it is very difficult to find it out as its entrance is disguised behind hawkers' stalls.
Their mutton Afghani & mutton kabiraji are two must-taste items.
You may have taken tea at various stalls or cafes, but have you ever asked 'give me double-half tea'? Do this thing at dilruba & enjoy your tea watching tramcars with cacophonic sound & hustle-bustle of hawkers of hatibagan.
Today i go to this place. Very good sitting arrangements & staffs behaviour is really good. All menu's prices are pocket friendly. Food quality was good & tastes good.
#must visit
food was not upto the mark
Old restaurant located just a few minutes walk from shyambazar five points towards Hati bagan. You can't locate it as it stands behind the hawker market. It is not spacious but one can find tasty foods at affordable prices....
Ambience filled with nostalgia, same old good TASTE and also good SERVICE ~~
Firstly, don't go by the name Restaurant , here you won't get the Restaurant type fine dining , this is basically quick bite place, remember they accept CASH only, but will give you proper PRINTED BILL.
Located in a old building opposite B. Dasgupta store near fariapukur. Inside, both AC & non- AC seating available. Décor will give you feel of heritage of the North Kolkata Cabins.
Unlike the most of the eateries here which lost its charm in present time , this one kept it's quality and Taste. They are also providing combo meals to cope with modern competition.
Staffs are well behaved. And also very quick service is provided by this place.
Not much expensive items will give stomach full food with very little pocket pinch.
I have ordered Chicken Gravy Chowmin... Good in taste. Food quality is very good . Satisfactory Quantity in Pocket friendly price ! I am impressed
No.4 rating due to the decoration... otherwise food quality n quantity is well enough. This is a good place to fill your stomach in the midst of shopping in hatibagan. Will suggest to have a good decor.
Food is good. Good Quality. Thikness of paneer should be more.
good but should have included sauce
One of the oldest restaurants in the hatibagan area as I have heard of this place from my parents a lot of times. Recently they have decorated this place and I have too say it's quite good. It is famous for its kabiraji and this type of other snacks. They also serve chinese here which is also very good. The kabiraji here is just heavenly and can easily be compared with the mitra cafe's.
Chowmin was more tasty than Moghlai parata.
nice chowmine and very fast delivery
A place where you will get the taste of authentic north Calcutta .. you have to try kabiraji (chicken/mutton/fish), prawn cutlet and fowl cutlet .. chicken afgani is also needs a mention .. but the trp lies on Mangsher Shingara (Mutton Samosa) .. this is available only on Sunday mornings .. keep eating !!
It's a good place with reasonable prices. The renovated inner area is beautiful with friendly and cooperative staffs. Service is also prompt & swift.
The fish pakora was great, so was the Fish diamond fry- its actually more similar to a kabiraji than to a fish fry. The chicken pakora was spicy, but was ill seasoned.
I sat in the outer non-AC part. Food quality average. It's a heritage place. Pocket friendly place for everyone. I sat in the outer non-AC part. Food quality average. It's a heritage place. Pocket friendly place for everyone.
it was just awesome haven't tasted such a lovely kabiraji, fell in love with it.
awesome....we always enjoy food from Dilruba....very nice taste and healthy....
mainly fast foods and quick bites. we have tried their chicken pakpra, fish fry, kabiraji and some more. nicely cooked,no complaints. cannot comment on the atmosphere as we take only home deliveries
I ordered veg combo. The combo includes veg Hakka chow, veg fried rice, chili mushroom gravy, french fries and salad. The quantity was way more than enough. But it sure lacks quality. The food lacks taste.
This was my first order from this place.Ordered chilly paneer..the taste of food was very good
Visited 2nd time. Impressed with its new decoration. As usual food was awesome than the nearby any others with its reasonable price. Will visit again. Their new item Chelo Chow was not so special but we were not disappointed.
Requesting to the Manager of Dilruba Cabin, kindly maintain these type of quality with decent prices. Keep it up. You are also another traditional restaurant of North Calcutta like the other ones.
This is a 75 year old restaurant... To call it a restaurant will be an understatement. I will call this a heritage place for North kolkatans. This has the old wooden chairs which has a nostalgic feeling of old Calcutta. At the background you would hear many nostalgic bengali songs of Manna Dey, Salil Choudhary, Sandhya Mukherjee and much more.
If you come here and order chowmein or Chinese will be waste of money because this place is famous for the good old fish afghani, prawn cutlet, mutton stew and many more nostalgic dishes. If you want to get a taste of North Kolkata... Come here and order the cutelts, afghani, stews and mughlai parantha. Don't forget to try the newly introduced nolen gurer kulfi.
They serve you original Bhetki unlike other big renowned restaurants who serve basa fish and charge double the amount. Here the price is reasonable and you will get value for money.
I recommend this restaurant and dishes to everyone. Ekbar Ashle bar bar ashte hobe :) Swagata Banerjee
A hidden gem in hatibagan near fariapukur. Decoration is not too god but food is really tastey. Chicken pakora is a must try food here. Otherwise you can have diamond fry.
This restaurant was a lifesaver literally. We had gone here while Pandal hopping on Ashtami night and couldn't find a single restaurant that wasn't full. This is a hidden gem really. We had to use gps to locate it,for it is not easily noticeable, despite being situated right on a busy stretch of road near Hatibagan crossing. The place seems tiny but is not so,for there is a separate ac section at the back apart from the non ac one one would see at the first. But you would have to take your own initiative and ask for seating in the ac section, which is quite decent. The ambience ia that of any medium ranged basic ac restaurant. The food is quite good and so is the quantity but the price is quite high.,but that is quite justified i must say because of the scarcity of eateries in the area. The staff behavior is courteous enough.Hop in with no great expectations and you would not be disappointed, delighted even.Kingshuk Mondal
Update: They have updated their looks and that reflects in the menu across the food prices. Though the service and the feel didn't change much, thankfully.
Really good for Kabiraji and Moghlai paratha. Gives you a feel of those Bengali eateries from the past, with their marble tables and small wooden chairs. I also, tried their Chinese, big mistake, but without a doubt I'm ready any day to dive into that tender Kabiraji meat with some mustard and onion rings. It's low cost too. One downside though, that it's not quite visible from the road if you are in a car, with all the hawker shades blocking your view of the red illuminated sign board.
It's one of the oldest food joints in kolkata. Wanted to try their foods since a long time and few days ago finally gave a try. Don't expect a posh ambience as it's a old cabin but their food was too good... ❤❤❤
Overall old heritage place keeping themselves in the race with their quality of food in affordable price.
Taste wise good. Quality is very impressive in affordable price.
You will get many muglai options along Chinese noodles, rice etc.
Varieties are there.
Small outlet. Ok ok service. Accepts UPI but not card payment.
We tried below items...
1. Mutton Kabiraji
2. Fish Diamond Fry (Pure Vetki)
3. Pudding
Dilruba's new look might confuse you, but those whose roots are in north kolkata, know that this is not just a random newly opened restaurant, but an old cabin style restaurant of Kolkata.
With old wooden chairs and marble top tables.
This new version is a two storey restaurant with both ac and non AC seating arrangements.
The updated menu includes.. pasta, combo meals, fries and breads. But their cutlet, kabiraji, mughlai parathas are still their USP.
My order includes-
Chicken cutlet 90/- per pc
Chicken Afghani 120/- per pc
Vintage Cabin culture of North Kolkata. Each and every Fish Items are highly recommended
Dilruba Restaurant is one of the old and famous restaurant in North Kolkata.
It's the best place for college students as the price is so reasonable. Both dine in and take out options are present.
Now coming to the food, we have ordered fish fingers and gravy chicken chowmin. They served a huge portion of food, so one plate is enough for two people. Food quality was also good.
✓Great service
✓Value for money
✓Hygienic restaurant
✓Washroom available
PS: I will surely visit the place again
Very good experience with this place.
They have lots of items in pocket friendly price. They also have ac nd non ac cabins. Foods quality and quantity is very good nd teast was very yummy.
So if you visit hatibagan shymbazar area, surely visit this place.
Thank you 😊
Nice old restaurant in vicinity of Shyambazar more beside Darpana cenema their AC sitting arrangement are much better than normal area, good tasty food but not like excellent tasty, most important that i think they used good quality raw material, there mugali section and Chinese both carry okay price. This type of old restaurant are the nostalgia of North Calcutta person those who saw in childhood after cenema this type of authentic restaurant for Mughali , and kabiraji cutlets with mutton kasa.
Love to go.
One of the best Restaurant in North Kolkata. Food Quality is Good, Service also good, Great atmosphere.
Dilruba Restaurant in Syambazar, Kolkata, is a popular choice for those looking to indulge in delicious Indian and Mughlai cuisine. With its flavorful biryanis, diverse menu, and attentive service, it offers a satisfying dining experience for locals and tourists alike.and I highly recommend kabiraji of this restaurant.
Good food quality and ambiance are also nice, the location is a bit tricky because of the surrounding market
but you can find it. And the parathas are not oily nice and dry yet the gravy items are oily enough 🤣
Food quality is just awesome... good service and the atmosphere is also great..👍🏻
It's an amazing retro Kolkata style restaurant with amazing food and price but I hygiene could be better, sauces should have to be change everyday!! But overall it's good.
The overall experience was very good,
The food quality of 1 plate was sufficient for 2 people easily, is located near hatibagan M bazar
Most popular food joint in North Kolkata serving people over 70years.Fish fry,Babu fry, chicken cutlet and many more lip smashing dishes are available here.Nearest location is Symbazar Aminia.Available on Zomato .Seating and takeaway is also available. Visiting this place over 15years and everytime the same taste is available. No change in quality or service.Keep it up @Dilruba
