An evening locked inside the VAULT – First look after reopening.!
Step into the vault for an evening and lock yourself up to get surrounded by some of the finest fingerlicking dishes and crafted beverages. This place resembles very much like a basement or a hidden underground floor, and hence the reason attributing to such a name. Located inside the famed Priya Cinema Hall, Vault has since now, was known for being one of the popular nightclub scenes, tending much to the hip-hop public. Post the unfortunate fire incident, this place has reincarnated and reshuffled itself in being one of the ready-to-go pubs in the heart of the southern part of Kolkata.!
The décor has been kept unchanged and so has been most of the furniture. While two of the sofas give you the fine comfort feel, the ones in the middle are more relaxing, and are meant for those who would like to cozy up and enjoy a relaxing time. Just past the magnanimous bar, lies a separate section, dedicated as a dance floor. The food here draws quite an inspiration from its sister concern but also retains quite an individuality of its own. We started off with a Lamb Burger, which had a juicy lamb patty enclosed within a soft and fresh burger bun, and served alongside crispy French fries and a refreshing coleslaw.
The Spaghetti was cooked in a luscious butter garlic sauce, while being tossed with some beans, spinach and onions. The baked cheese nachos had those perfect crisp nachos which were baked with perfection. Perhaps some sprinkling of ketchup, and the tortilla chips turned out to be a gooey and crispy amalgamation of varying flavours. The roasted chilli pork was an absolute delight, with it having thin sliced of perfectly cut pork, along with some chillies and greens. The preparation was exotic, and with the right amount of richness and acidity from the black bean sauce. Perfectly done, this was one of the best starters to go along with the drinks which were served.
The Chermoula marinated fish was fiery and rustic, due to the flavours inhibited from the dried dark raisins and the onion puree. There was also a prominent presence of cloves, chilli and black pepper within the spice mix imparting the batter its taste, seeping right into the flaky boneless fillets of the fish cubes. For other starters, the button mushrooms stuffed with yellow cheddar was a good pick for the vegetarian lovers, apart from the vegetarian platter which comprised of the fried cottage cheese cubes, crispy chilli baby corn, garlic bread and the mac & cheese fry. A perfect mix of sweet, tangy and crisp flavours, this is a platter meant to feed more than one head.
Its counterpart, the Non-Vegetarian platter comprised of three portions of the sweet and tangy chicken satay, three portions of crispy fish fingers, three portions of the delectable sweet chilli fish accompanied by a dip and last but not the least two portions of fried chicken. There is a separate sea food platter for those who prefer otherwise, you can feast upon three portions of grilled butter prawns, two portions of fried prawns, fried calamari and three portions of chermoula fish cubes. For maincourse, you can try the Veg Phat Mama Bowl which will have pan tossed paneer in dark soy sauce and bokchoy, along with garlic rice or hakka noodles.
The non-vegetarian version of the same, the Pork counterpart came with sliced chilli pork along with an option of coriander fried rice or chili garlic noodles. The Nasi Goreng was perfectly done, with the two chicken satay cooked perfectly and being dipped within the delectable peanut butter sauce, the skewers came along with thai rice, potato chips and kimchi salad. Vault also serves the option for prawn and veg. The last maincourse of the day, the Khow Suey had the perfect sweet, sour, tangy and spicy zing, with the thick soup being complemented well by the finely crushed fried onions, lemon wedges, chillies, peanuts and the fried crisps.
For cocktails. the Green Apple Shandy was a favorite, with its perfect mix of Vodka, Beer, Green Apple Juice, triple sec and sweet & sour syrup. The Kaffirlime and Pineapple Gimlet followed next with its innovative concoction. Comprising of gin, passionfruit syrup, kaffir lime, pineapple juice, lime juice and grenadine, this refreshing drink was a total value for money. Some of the other drinks, like Strawberry Kiwi Mojito and Rosemary Cucumbertini were impressive as well, with its impressive ingredients and fine mix by the talented bartender.
The individual alcoholic drinks start at just Rs. 48, so you know you are getting a good deal to come along with your friends and buddies. Paired with the impressive array of food dishes, this might just be your new favorite place on the list.
