Often the one's that are at a stone's throw distance, are ignored. Same was the case with me. Chennai Express is located at about a minute's distance from my home and I can't believe I hadn't yet tried it. All thanks to a sudden meet up that we decided to be here. And the food has me totally floored.
For starters we had:
Malai Paneer Tikka (Highly highly recommended): Soft pieces of paneer marinated in malai, tandoor grilled and served with a layer of melted cheese on top.......yes I just described a little bit of heaven.
Veg Tandoor Platter: A wholesome platter with variety of kebabs to fill you up. It has tandoori aloo, hara bhara kebab, Tandoori paneer tikka and Malai Paneer tikka. Each and every piece was delectable. Specially loved the filling for tandoori aloo.
For Main Course we got ourselves:
Veg Biryani: Long basmati rice cooked to perfection. The aroma filling up the room.....this biryani was served with raita and served as the perfect base for our condimental dishes.
Shaam Savera(Highly highly highlyyyyy recommended): Oh My God....where do I even begin to describe what piece of delight this was. I had shaam savera for the first time and I'm a fan for life. Imagine a palak katori filled with paneer and khoya, floating on a yellow nut based gravy.....uffffff I'll go back for this every time.
Dal Makhani: This is our regular dal makhani which had the aroma of ghee oozing and giving a heavenly feel.
Pindi Chhola: This too was really good, mildly spiced and was paired perfectly with the naans and kulcha that we ordered.
Paneer Tikka Masala: The paneer lover in me was soooo happy to be here. The quality of paneer that they use is too good to be true. This dish was a bit on the spicier side which I loved. Paired it up with the butter and garlic naans. Tasted so amazing that I'm drooling at the very thought of it.
To wash it all down, we got ourselves the recently launched milkshakes in Strawberry, Blueberry, Khas Banana and Black Currant. The Khas Banana was something very unique and tasted quite refreshing. However, my absolute favorite is the Blueberry milkshake. I can gulp down bottles of this one.
Overall, for the first time, I fell in love with a vegetarian joint. The food, the quantity and above all, the quality is really amazing considering the price that you pay for it. Also, they have the best blueberry milkshake in town hands down.
Can't wait to be back.....!!!!

I love my food either it's veg or non veg , it doesn't matter to me at all..yeah i was a hardcore non vegetarian and i was think twice before visiting a veg food joints but things are changed now and my perspectives too. The city of joy brings so many good veg restaurant which surely blow your mind. Here comes the Chennai Xpress which is also a veg themed restaurant that stole my heart. The overall vibe of the place was very homely and it was based on train themed. The interior and the decor was outstanding. This place was not that huge and can accommodate 20-30 people max at a time.
❇So, we hit the place to try some south indian food but we discover that they just introduced their north indian menu so we quickly decided to try that out.
Coming to the real deal which is food ofcourse -
▶ Malai Panner Tikka - Also known as grilled cottage cheese. Panner Tikka Combined With Malai was a pure bliss.
▶Veg Tandoori Platter - it's a must try if you landed with the group. This platter comes with Tandoori aloo, Hara Bhara Kebab,Tandoori Paneer Tikka and Malai Paneer Tikka.
In Main Course We Had -
▶Veg Biryani which is comes with raita.
▶Shaam Savera
▶Pindi Chola
▶Dal Makhni
▶Paneer Tikka Masala
▶Assorted Indian Breads
From the main course i love the pindi chola and the dal makhni the most. Shaam savera was really unique too and you can definitely try this out.
Last but not the least we had tried their few shakes too and i highly recommended their shakes as those shakes were totally amazing
,Specially that black current shakes was incredibly delicious.
Overall it was a lovely experience for us and we are fully satisfied with their food , service and their hospitality. The best thing is that they followed all the safety precautions for the covid19 , even they use disposable plates and spoons which is really a Commendable job.
When my favorite South Indian Food Joint located in Bangur Avenue comes up with an innovative North Indian Menu, I chose to look in on their new menu. And, I was bowled over by the taste, quality and quantity.
Our table was adorned by number of dishes among which my favorite was The Malai Paneer Tikka, Pindi Chhole and Masala Kulcha. The Malai Paneer Tikka was pillowy soft and topped with cheese, tasted heavenly. The Pindi Chhole and Masala Kulcha was the win win combo for me along with The Black Currant Milkshake. Other than this, we also did put our hands on Tandoori Platter for appetizers; Veg Biryani, Dal Makhani, Shaam Savera and Paneer Tikka Masala as Mains.
This is a total vegetarian restaurant with sitting capacity of 25-30 heads at a time. They are adhering with all the norms of this pandemic situation and serving in all disposables. The owners are super friendly and welcoming, they themselves take the orders according to our likes.
Great place, good ambience and its a train berth themed restaurant. And the masala dhoosa is very good. Do visit the place you all will love it.
Chennai Xpress serves a huge variety of Dosas. The food is tasty but nothing outstanding. The service is good.
A must try is Cheese burst. Cordial and very responsive, nice service by the steward named Biswajit.
This was the first time that I ordered from this place and I was quite satisfied. Due to medical reasons, I can only have Rava Dosa and in my area there is a dirth of South Indian restaurant that has it in their menu. Chennai Xpress made me very happy on that context!
The dosa was huge! It had several layers and was very crisp and perfectly done. I opted it with cheese and it had ample cheese in it. That with a handful of coriander leaves thrown in made the overall dish delicious. The sambar daal was light and non-spicy with a few veggies in it and the daal added a refreshing touch to the dosa. So did the coconut chutney that was quite thick and had a hint of mint in it. The additional red chutney provided just the right kick to complete the dish.
Packaging was neat and clean, the daal and chutney in plastic containers and the dosa wrapped in banana leaf and then newspaper over it. Many people does not like the use of newspaper as wraps, but I would say, the banana leaf acted as a shield and kept the dosa fresh and crisp.
Overall, what you get here is good value for money and I would definitely go back for more from this place!!
Just loved the food, ambience, long menu list nd the taste! They deserve to get 5! A small south indian joint opposite to Bangur swimming pool or adjacent to Bangur SBI e corner. The interior of the restro was themed with express train nd the walls had the paintings of train. It reminded exactly the interior of a local train. At one time this restro can accomodate 30 guests. The menu card consisted of sea of south indian dishes which echoed the myriads of south indian dosas, uttapam, vadas etc. I went with my gf nd both ordered for Jini dosa, masala uttapam, cheezy masala buter dosa, vada samvar. The vada was soft nd the samvar dal had the strong taste of curry patta which i personally love it. The dosas were awsome, crisp nd beyond anything. The uttapam was too tasty. The taste of each items were too good nd upto the mark. The staffs were too good. I would recommend this restro to everyone.
Very good quality food. Dosa and dahi vada are awesome. The behaviour of the people is also very good. The ambience there is similar to south. Chennai Xpress
You know you've a winner when you get such authentic and delicious South Indian dishes, along with friendly owners, polite and diligent staff and funky decor!
A great fooding experience, for small and large groups alike 👍

GUYS give these a try, experiments went good, specially the crispy chilli idli, i bet u will not be able to differentiate the difference between babycorn & idli, perfect blend, bang on taste, superb ambience, overall the best taste at a reasonable price, go for it guys..!!
Nice and affordable joint to have tasty South Indian delicacies. With variety of Dosas,Idli and Uttapam available, it is one of the best South Indian restaurant in Bangur.
Very very good and respective restaurant. Please u will go there and enjoy the dish and there services. Please i request you to please go chennai express and enjoy. Thanks you for your services.
Certainly not the Chennai express that you'll find in Shahrukh Khan film but perhaps the best food that you would find in very affordable prices.
Wish I could give them 10 * . Ordered masala idly, online . The food came in excellent packaging, it was piping hot, generous in quantity and very tasty!!! What more can you ask for...!
The place is located in bangur avenue..
The place is quite good and pocket friendly..
We were just searching for a placw and got this..
The interior is too gud.. It gives u all the feel of a train..
The staffs are also yoo friendly.. and they help u with the order..
The food were really tasty though we didnt has much.
We just ordered a paper masala dosa and a mixed uttapam and a coldrink..
All tasted good and yummy...
We have got two parts here.. one is when u enter and the other is inside that..
Quiet a good place .. worthy tryng..
I love the South Indian food that you provide, it's the best in this area.
Neither the quality nor the quantity has gone down though it's been quite a long time now.
Amazing food ❤
Tried Cheese Masala dosa here. It was thin and crunchy loaded with cheese. Although I didn’t like the potato filling provided with it. Dosa was served along with three types of chutney and sambhar. The ambience didn’t impress me as such. Quality of the dosa was good enough for me visiting again.
The item masala dosa is poor quality and the taste of such item tends to sour.so,it is assumed that the quality of food like dosa is not good.it is wastage of money.please take care of food quality before despatch.
Though I am not a big fan of South Indian Cuisine , but this Cafe is what comes to my mind, when I think of South Indian Cuisine in Kolkata. I have been quite a few times here. It's a small and congested place. The service is the quickest of all. Dosa , Butter Onion Masala Uthapam and vada is their speciality. The Dosa is crispy outside with soft inside and aloo masala . The chutney served is fresh, having a distinct flavour of coconut and curry leaves. Uthappam and vada is a must try. If your taste buds demands South Indian flavour , this Cafe at the most reasonable price.
The place is amazing and the ambiance too
The menu has a variety but when it comes to veg it really need to increase the items in veg
Dry chilli paneer is a must try.
we've been there on Saturday.. we tried many dishes i.e., vada , pizza Dosa, paper masala dosa, xpress jini dosa, rava dosa, cheese Onion dosa, dahi idli, rasam.. dahi idli, rasam was not quite good.. pizza Dosa and express jini dosa was the most delicious
A to-go restaurant for some great south indian food. We tried a plethora of dishes. The best of them were the fusion dishes, pizza dosa and crispy chilli idli. Must try. Totally recommended.
Great Dosas but hygiene is the concern..the chutneys are well done and very tasty 😋
You can either get it home delivered or dine at this place itself!
Small, cosy and a bit pricy place. Dosas are good but not up to the price they charge for those dosas.
Avg dosa cost Rs.130
I ordered Rava masala dosa which was good and they gave a lot of masala into it, which i found nice.
They also give a orangish chutney which was pretty good.
They have a railway theme inside the restaurant which adds to the eating experience.
Firstly, chennai xpress is a themed restuarent and the eye chatching part of this place is its interior which is pretty good. They serve variety of south indian food and their variety is endless when we look at their menu. They have so many items that it is hard to pick and choose one. Still we managed to select two items from their menu and ordered them. The name of the items were xpress jini dhosa and xpress barrel of dhosa. I was having the jini dhosa for the first time and i loved it because of the spicy sauce , masala and cheese that it had. The xpress barrel of dhosa was extremely heavy, firstly because the jini dhosa wasn't light at all and secondly the barrel dhosa had three cones with each having different flavours which was no joke to complete by two people as i went with my one of my friend. Anyways the barrel dhosa was also pretty good. The restaurent provides around four type of chatni and sambar as complementary and they even do refills at no extra cost. The price was a bit on the higher side but that can be considered and understood , knowing the fact that it is a themed restuarent and they don't compromise with the quality , taste and ambience. The only let of was that we ordered a coke and they did not give us from a sealed bottle as there was no fizz when they brought it on our table in two glasses. Overall it was a good experience and worth visiting this place.
Visit there with cousins sister last month place was good, but after visit we have to wait some time ordered coffee & uttapam ordered mini 5 types it was really heavy taste was good will visit next time.
Hello ! My Five Restaurant in one.. Good foods are there available...with veg items only..with big love..Awesome Thanks to all invitation to me.
Delicious veg food options specially for a non veggie like me(who can't tolerate veg)!!Had dhania dosa and cheese sweet corn dosa ,both were mouthwatering ,along with chilli idly which was ok types.
Recommended.
Best place for South Indian in Bangur as per as for order too nice place Good packing and tast as well as must try once you should try again
When compared to it's substitute restaurants which cater their services in the same or a comparatively lower price, this has got to improve it's ambience and decor. Otherwise the dosa is top notch.
Delivery order from Uber eats. Very tasty and neatly packed.
Read quite a few reviews about the food. Looks like the issues were addressed by the restaurant.
Took a idli vada via uber eats. It was neatly packed. Idli, vada, chutney and sambar all were yum. Tasted like homemade food to me. Loved it. Waiting to reorder...
A very good south indian food joint located in Bangur Avenue Near Bangur Avenue Swimming Pool. The food is so tasty that every sunday you will have to wait for atleast half an hour to get inside the restaurant.
Authentic South Indian at its best.
Pros: The rava dosas are a treat to the taste buds. The Special Upma is highly recommended.
As far as hygiene is concerned, the management makes no compromises whatsoever. Add to all this, the wonderful shop owner who always has a smile on her face. I enjoy coming back to this place.
Cons: Not as spacious as one would have liked
It's a very good south indian joint located in bangur avenue. The food served is good in taste and quality. So I ordered masala dosa, cheese sada dosa, idly, vada, idly bhurji. Now coming to taste the dosa ,idly and vada were very good in taste, but idly bhurji was just awesome. The star I have cut is for masala as it was little soggy. The packaging was also excellent. The red chutney served was also awesome.
It's a really nice south indian food restro in Bangur....After a long time and many so called south indian food restro I found this really nice place...
The food was awesome, behavior of the staffs was really good and humble.... We had ordered masala dosa, cheese corn uttapam and filter coffee... Loved uttapam the most, specially the thick layer of the cheese..😍
Many variety are available in dosa and uttapam and the price was pocket friendly too... I dnt find sny flaw in that restro and I would definitely visit that place again and again😀😊
So if you love south indian food then you should must visit this place...

Located in Bangur from many years, this place has variety of South Indian dishes. You will get so many types of dosas, and they are worth trying.
We had Cheese Onion Masala Dosa and the quantity and quality was too good. The amount of cheese was perfect. Sambar and Chutney tasted well.
If you're in Bangur and craving authentic south indian. Try this place.
Pocket Pinch- 130/-
Please expand your delivery area to teghoria & BAGUIHATI as your food is so good..
Previously it was in your delivery list & myself has ordered many times. Hope you will do something
Thanks
Been here multiple times. Needless to say It's one of the best places to have Dosa/Idli/Vada having an authentic taste. Rawa cheese dosa and Sambhar Vada are a must try.
Ordered Butter Cheese Onion Masala Dosa...It was really tasty and quantity is good...keep up this good work of serving delicious food to people!
After a long time I have tasted wonderful south Indian foods over here.. the quality and quantity of foods were great.. specially the sambar..
please maintain this quality.
Just one suggestion- masala of Masala Dosa can be packed separately, else Dosa gets soggy by the time it gets delivered
masala dosa was nt up to the mark
delivery was on the time thanks
Good food, appreciate if it gets delivered more faster.
I am not very fond of South Indian foods, but my office colleagues ordered some south indian food from Chennai Express. I have heard the name of this restaurant before, but for the first time I had foods from this restaurant.
🔹Dahi Vada: Tastes good. there were 2 vada, costs Rs. 70. Size of the vadas were big. The served it with good amount of Dahi.
🔹Idly Vada: it contains one piece idly and one piece vada. They serve it with Sambar, white Chutney and a yellow chutney. Quantity of Sambar and chutney are too good. I liked there white chutney very much.
Food were fresh and Tasty. I like to taste their Dosa also.
Repeat customer here :) Excellent food. Honors special requests related to the order.
quality and taste of food is good bt quite expensive
Had change and delivered before time which impressed me
The dosa & vada was tasty. Looking forward to more of it. 😁
EXCELLENT PACKING, TASTE, PORTION SIZE & SERVICE BY ZOMATO
good quality food. quantity of chutney was very good.
very good quality.nice taste. well packed
I love south Indian food, and they serve the best in taste in the locality. We mostly take away especially for breakfasts from here, I have tried their Butter idly with gun powder which was actually not bad but somehow I couldn't get the combination of Idly and butter (it was a good amount), a variety of dosa's and uttapam which all tasted really good.
Heard a lot about this place.
Tried masala dosa which was super crispy and tasty, the chutneys were extremely good as it tasted different from other South Indian restaurants. Overall very good and authentic south indian food. It's a must visit place for me
Great place to have quick North/South Indian delicacies at decent price at Bangur. What separates it from other food joint is the hospitality of the owner and her staff. They are all polite and well behaved. Ambience is clean, food is hot, price is decent. Staff is good. Located on the main road. What more you want as a customer. Fyi- this is a veg restaurant.
Amazing south indian authentic food in Bangur. Hats off the perfect crisp rava onion Dosa served so very quickly. Kudos for working so so diligently in testing times of the Pandemic with all precautions and hygiene. Grateful for the amazing assortment on the menu and availability so so many items to select from. All the best for more and more success ahead.
In picture is idly burji and onion rava and onion rava masala Dosa. 🙏
I actually was looking for something veg and found this restaurant. However this is a small restaurant but that doesn't limits it's capacity of working and providing tasty meals to customers. I had Paneer Tikka Masala along Naan with Raita and later accompanied with Rice and Dal Tadka. The taste of the food was really great and I appreciate the staffs who were working. They are quick in response. This restaurant has a good menu having mix of North Indian, South Indian and Chinese cuisines. It's worth a visit once.
Heard a lot about this place, tried paper masala dosa. Dosa was super crispy and tasty, the chutneys could be better as the water content is high. Overall very good and authentic south indian food.

If you're looking Authentic South Indian food you should visit Chennai Express.
Also north indian and Chinese items are available bit I'll suggest you to try their South Indian food first.
This South-Indian joint definitely stands out for its unique ambience, scrumptious food and friendly staff. It has a themed decoration that resembles interior of Indian trains, hence the name Chennai Express. They offer variety of south indian delicacies like Dosa, Idly, Uttapam as well as beverages. Taste wise, it's one of the best around and you can order online too. It draws more crowd over the weekend and subsequently some waiting time. I would have liked it to be more kids-friendly and inclusive in terms of accessibility. Other than that, if you're a South Indian, it's a must visit; if you aren't, still a must visit.
Tasty food here! The place is quite peaceful and the decoration is also very amazing.
This restaurant has been serving high quality South Indian dishes for the past few years Their location has been shifted once but that havenot affected their business. During the covid lockdown time proper protocol was being followed. They have also expanded their menu and added north Indian dishes. This is a pure veg restaurant. They also customize the menu if you want to avoid onion and garlic in your diet. Dishes to try are butter masala dosa, mysore idli with podi, rava dosa etc. They also serve various types of icecream sundaes.
Very good decor. Themed on a train. Quick service. Delicious food. Innovative dishes like dosa pizza and many more. Do give it a try. Good place to grab South Indian dishes.
Nice place, actually themed as chennai railway station. Loved the authentic south Indian food.
They have some amazing experimental menu on south indian food specially on dosas.. you will not be disappointed to give it a try.
Nice place for vegetarians, lots of option and good quality food. Safe and hygienic place for family. Service is prompt and staff is quite polite a must for anyone!
The only place where we can have all the better veg foods without garlic and onion. Dosa and filter coffee is recommended.
