2nd destination of my Pice Hotel journey by following Foodka's series I went to Jagatmata Bhojanalaya. A Bengali Odia hotel located at Kailash Bose St that is more than 100 years old. This place has some sweet memories in my life.

A little history :
-----------------------------
I've been to this place almost 10 years ago with my Grandpa. Uff! those were days, holding his hand going to such places to eat, actually this place was introduced to me by my Grandpa only.

Then somehow this legendary place got lost somewhere in my mind. Thanks to Foodka's Pice hotel series, all those memories just came back to my life once again when I revisited this place after all these years.

Life now a days :
-------------------------------
Working in the corporate life, sitting in front of the computer for all day and living modern lifestyle, we Bengalis forgot our tradition of sitting on the ground. So when I saw a mat laying on the ground I sat on it and I've no shame of doing that.

But that wasn't the case with everyone else. The Table Chair area was full and still people were waiting to get seated. Where as on the opposite ground floor sitting room was empty. Maybe no one really likes it anymore or I'm being little too old fashioned. Well! Thats how I'm.

Traditional Bengali Thali :
----------------------------------------------
I was bit late to reach there around 2pm and I found most of the dishes were already finished for the day. So couldn't follow Foodk's recommendations this time but ordered other left over fish special dishes.

Macher Matha Saag Chorchori
Mourola Macher Aloo Diye Jhal
Parce Macher Sorse Bata Diye Jhol

How does it taste :
---------------------------------
All were having very distinct homely taste with the punch of green chillies. Served on banana leaf definitely changed the taste. You can choose Kasar Thala as well. Here the rice you get isn't the most thin & fine quality, it's basic fat & bold little too moist rice.

Here Saag Chorchori wasn't as impressive as Swadhin Bharat Hotel. Mourola was definitely good but without potato it would have been great. Parce was deeply fried hence felt bit hard but held its taste.

I was willing to try their Aamer Chutney, but unfortunately didn't got it on that day. Don't worry I've alternate surprise dessert at end.

Pricing :
-----------------
This place is way cheaper than the last Pice Hotel I visited. Look at the wall hanging menu board attached with the review.

My bill was only Rs.192 including all 3 fish items. But if you order some premium Bengal Fish like Chital, Pabda or Chingri that might cost you near to Rs.300 just for the fish.

Conclusion :
------------------------
If you've came this long and waiting for my rating then let me tell you I'm no one to rate them. They're in business even before I was born. But I'll surely make a list of my favourite

Wait wait wait! I haven't finished yet. Dessert is still remaining right? Just a few steps away towards Amherst Street you'll find Ghosh & Co. And I think there couldn't be any better option than their Misti Doi to finish this journey.

Just came back from lunch from this awesome more than 100 years old nostalgic old north kolkata style place. They serve only non veg items. Simple and tasty bengali food. Ordered rice, dal with fish head, vegetable curry with fish head , mutton, chutney. They only use utensils made of brass and serve water in earthen clay pots(matir bhar in bengali).

The mutton was very soft. Overall the food was very tasty not rich but typical bengali home like.

They do not serve eggs or chicken.

It is located not in entally but in Kailash bose street. 2 mins walk from Sreemani Bazar bus stop.

If you are an old soul, a seeker for the old world charm, forever searching the old Calcutta then North Calcutta or Kolkata is your heaven. In one such famous area of this part of the city this restaurant is situated and can easily claim a heritage tag. Although this page mentions the address as Entally but we have visited The Jogonmata Hotel at 40 Kailash Bose street, a 5 minutes walk from Bibekananda more towards College street . While walking you will find a Just Bake outlet and take the lane beside it, walk for another 2 minutes and you will spot this place beside a paan shop. As practiced in any such old school eateries so is here a thali system of pure Bengali food is in offer. If you are conscious about what you are eating and don't have any vanity issues then you will find immense pleasure in the simplicity of this place. Best time to visit this place is  for lunch between 12 :30-1:30, you will  be able to taste the full course , otherwise if you are thinking for a late lunch then this is not the right place. They serve variety of fish, prawn, crab which I think is specialty along with chicken and mutton and other vegetable dishes.

I've been to places like Koshe Kosha, Bhojohori Manna etc. But I never loved any of those. Overpriced items albeit not so overwhelming taste and quantity. Jaganmata Bhojanalay, I was taken to, for a surprise treat. I must say I was surprised. The price and quality... just fantastic. The 150 year old place, where you'll get the authentic finger licking taste from Odia Bamun Thakur. Trust me, you'll want to visit again and again for Bengali food within budget and with excellent taste.

They serve authentic Odia cuisine.
The place is quite old it will surely make one travel back to the old days. You have two options available either you sit on the mat layed on the ground or the usual table chair room. They ask you whether u would like Ur food served on a banana leaf or a plate. And the plate is a huge heavy brass plate. Eating here is a one of a kind experience food is extremely tasty and they are quite famous also in the locality. If you are carving for mutton and are planning to visit here then u must be early coz it is there best seller and it gets sold out very quickly. They serve a variety of fishes , chicken and prawns also.
I had the prawn along with rice and mashed potatoes (Allu chokha). Everything was just yum and out of the world. I paid 175 rs for my lunch and was left highly satisfied.
The information given out here is wrong this place is not in entally it is near srimani bazar close to swami Vivekananda's House.

Century old Paise Hotel in Kolkata. A perfect place to enjoy a Bengali meal. The dishes are charged individually. There is no option for Thali or Combo. All the dishes are very delicious! However, the real Star is the Mutton! In short it's just a Culinery Delicacy! The mutton is perfectly cooked and tender! The gravy is super tasty! If anyone wants to enjoy a perfect Bengali meal and that too in a century old eatery... this is definitely the place to try out!

If you look for pure bengali cuisines in very low prices, you must search on google map about 'Jaganmata bhojonaloy',one of the most remarkable pice hotels in kolkata...the location is all perfect, guide you to an old decrepit with a narrow door. But if you can enter into it on time, your belly will be filled up with splendid meals. Yes,it's a bit unhygienic too,but trust me their cordiality will feel you more comfortable than your imagination!

A great pocket friendly place pice hotel situated at the heart of Kolkata. The food quality and quantity is satisfactorily nice provided the very reasonable pocket pinch. Still now heritage is the best thing one must enjoy visiting this 100+ hotel. Sitting in floor one can enjoy the same food, that provides a completely different feel than the other pice hotels. Price is very reasonable. A basic meal with fish curry(Rui or Katla) may be around 200/-. The basic suggestion would be to surely go with some kind of fish in this hotel.

Jagatmata Bhojanalaya is a 150+ years old Bengali-Odia pice hotel (eatery) located at Kalisah Bose St, in North Kolkata that is still run by the members of the founder’s family. This place serves the food in traditional kasar thalis and even on banana leaves if asked for. You can also sit on the floor and enjoy your meal in a traditional way. This place offers very tasty food at pocket friendly price. Varieties of fish curry are available here. This hotel is also famous for its mutton curry which is available from 1.00pm.

The place with a lot of memories..... basically this place is situated in the middle of mg road and Girish Park... besides normal people, travellers many students of pg (like me) eat food their regularly.... One of the best pice hotel of KOLKATA....... they don't provide chicken and egg....they serve 2-3 types of bhaji, Dal, a variety of fishes, mutton (excluding Thursday),chutney etc.... Little bit unhygienic but the taste and quality of food beat this easily... Most recommended place for authentic Bengali food....

If you are looking for various tasty pure bengali dishes and at the same time don't want to spend much money then this is the perfect place for you. Although this is a bengali hotel the place is run by oriya people. A real find for fish lovers. A variety of fish dishes are available everyday. Separate space is available for those who prefer sitting in chattai on floor. They offer banana leaf or bronze plate for serving. Clay glass and banana leaf will cost you extra rs 5. AC is not available and also a bit congested. But definitely pocket friendly 😃
