Garden Cafe has been whipping out delicious South Indian food and has been delighting customers for over 5 decades now.
It’s usually associated with South Indian food but has also been doling out lip-smacking Pizzas and Dahi Vada.
The pin drop silence at this outlet is so relaxing from the busy schedule of our lives.
Would really recommend to grab a bite at this place and have these for sure:
•Cheese Idly
• Sada Vada
•Chilly cheese pizza
•Mixed Uttapam
• Masala Vada
• Finger Fried Idly
• Dhania Dosa
There are many more items which are sheer pleasure to the taste buds buts it’s difficult to own down everything here.
Love the food here. Comfortable air conditioning seating makes this place good for hanging out with family and friends. Live the idli and butter dosa.
The cheese idli, mixed cheese pizza and tiranga dosa are really good. I love the place. Comfortable seating with A/C makes the place really special.

South Indian food is always there on a run.
Excellent place.
Good service.
Sambhar needs a bit of change. It needs to be thick and with an equivalent number of vegetables.
Best South Indian cafe in Kolkata! One of the oldest Cafe's in Kolkata and it's stepping into a milestone of 50 years this 15th of August! This branch is comparatively new. But this cafe chain has it's oldest branch in Alipore. They have the biggest variety comprising of 89 dosas, as they boast off!
Price : It is really budget friendly and one of the best veg cafe out their! Their
Dishes that I have tried :
🎈 Tiranga Dosa : Their speciality and one of their best dishes! Has three different batters inside. Masala, cheesy and a bit spicy. Overall has a really great taste, served with 3 condiments namely sambhar, coconut chutney and a tangy cum spicy tomato chutney!
🎈 Cheese Salad Dosa : This was my favourite! It is so cheesy and fuller on the stomach! It can satisfy any hunger you can carve for! The vegetable salad inside makes it thick.
🎈 Topi Dosa : This spicy dosa is served with a thicker coconut chutney that really compliments the essence of the dosa. And their sambhar was really good. This dosa looks just like a hat and besides its looks, it's taste is also interesting!
🎈 Finger Fried Idly : This is something I have tried in ages. A nice and well crafted idly cut into and fried in the shape of finger cutlets!
🎈 Mixed Cheese Pizza : They also do make great pizzas for a veggie joint. Their pizza had a good amount of veggies and cheese and the crust was not so thin and a bit crunch, which I personally liked.
🎈 Mango Blossom : This mango shake was thick, and tastes good as it was not over sweet.
🎈 Orange Blossom : I somehow liked this one over the mango shake as its taste was more prominent.
🎈 Baby Corn Uttapam : This is a good edition of the uttapam. They also have varieties of uttapam. Its not very large. Thick. And enough for one person for evening snack.
🎈 Dahi Vada : This is something everyone should try. They really do make good dahi vada.
The best part of the cafe is their service is promt and the staff is friendly. Its quite spacious and a good option to curb your hunger in a South Indian way!

The finger fried idly was the speciality of this place.Beside these I love cheese dosa
The food and the staffs are well behaved and quick at their service.

*Service - The service was great and staffs are friendly too.
Overall this is a great place for South Indian food lover and who like some twists with south Indian flavour.
P.S- Don't Forget To Try Pizza and Finger Fried Idly
I was happy to come across this edition of Garden Cafe from what is now almost a chain vegetarian QSR serving south Indian cuisine as well as pizzas, pav bhaji, Dahi vada, shakes and so on. Once you climb the few steps leading to the first floor restaurant and push open the door, you find yourself in a bright, colourful and welcoming space. Not too big and not to small, probably with a capacity for seating around forty people. There is a glass facade and you can see the neat and hygienic kitchen.Had their dosa....it was good, served hot and well made with good white coconut chutney and sambaar. The sambaar taste was different from that of the Tamil South Indian eateries of Kolkata. But it tasted good and had veggies. Definitely coming back here to try their other items on the menu.
One con about the place, it opens only at 1 pm. So no south Indian breakfast can be had from here. But the good news...it's open till late, 10 pm.
Visit Recommended.😃

India is much more than the land of snake charmers. With its huge population and its diversity, it is slowly becoming one of the forces to be reckoned with in the world. One of the major areas where this diversity has actually left a lasting impression is FOOD. Different regions of India have influenced our taste buds over the centuries and after globalization, we have been fortunate enough to experience the influence of the whole world. Different types of Indian cuisines are available in almost all the states owing to the cosmopolitan environment that is prevailing nowadays. One of the most famous cuisines pertaining to the Southern Region of India, but is loved and appreciated all over India and the World is South Indian Cuisine. South Indian food has pushed its Vindhyan borders and has reached almost every nook and cranny of India and also Kolkata.
We all love to eat different types of food, like non-vegetarian dishes side by side I also like to eat vegetarian foods. South Indian food is something which you can easily consume without thinking for a moment. foods like dosa, Idli & vada are quite famous along which traditional chutneys. if you ask me which one is my favorite then my answer will be none other than these signature dishes. apart from that Uttapam another mouth-watering dish which you can find variant stuffings in various places. “Garden Cafe” which is a quite famous joint serves really good South Indian dishes, I and my fellow foodie friends were invited to a food tasting session. located walking distance from Jatin Das Park Metro station towards the auto stand. my first impression was after entering the place tall tables & chairs. it has a capacity of around 35-40 people at a time, we had a great experience over some lip-smacking dishes. one of the main things here is that the Dosas are quite incredible in size and varieties types of shapes.
When one hears South Indian food, generally only Idli, Dosa come to mind, but this doesn’t even scratch the surface of the diversity and variety of delicious foods native to this region. The cuisine of South India is known for its light, low calorie and flavorsome dishes. Their traditional food is mainly rice based, with a generous but balanced use of spices and coconut. South Indian meal is the safest bet. It has got a strong advantage over other cuisines- varieties with known ingredients and taste. If you are from Hazra area and fan of south Indian food then the probability of having South Indian food at Garden cafe is immensely high. Garden cafe is on of the best South Indian food restaurant you can rarely found in Kolkata. The prices are much less if you are worried about the cost. This place Located on 9 Nafar Kundu Road Hazra ( Opp. Paramount Nursing Home). Nearby Metro Station is Jatin das park . I went there with my fellow foodie friends of Panchphoron for a food tasting session . the long listed menu start with
Garden Cafe in Hazra is a very popular destination for all the South Indian food lovers. If you want some mouthwatering delicious south Indian vegetarian food then this is the place you have to visit. The food here is a mixture of some delicious spices and great flavours. Idly and Dosa are two typical South Indian dishes and they took these two dish to another level. They are the very first in Kolkata to introduce a ‘4 feet family Dosa‘ and also the Finger Idlys which is their specialty. Me along with the members of PanchPhoron were invited for a food tasting event there and tried a lot of dishes which consisted of : Masala Dosa, Family Dosa, Topi Dosa, Idlis, Finger Fried Idlis, Masala Daal vada, Mixed Veg Pizza, Sambhar and Coconut chutney, 3 flavoured ice cream, American Ice-Cream Soda, Orange Blossom, cold coffee and many more.
Very centrally located with plenty of car parking space great place to party upto 50 people.
South Indian Food from the 50 years old Garden Cafe at Alipore, Pizza are also has the same old original taste since introduced to Kolkata by Garden Cafe in 1979
Must visit between 1 and 10 pm
This place is just beside Asutosh college. It's a clean student friendly eatery with wide range of items . I love their dosa and idli. Coconut chutney is just perfect. You can also get different pizzas and ice creams. Though prize is bit high (considering it to be a student friendly eatery) but quality is really good. I also love the fact that they shut their shop quite late.
1st flr wid sitting arrangements not like Alipore..standing ...same item same staff..same food.. typical indian taste pizza..who likes it...best for them..good south Indian...
It has been ages I didn't try a sumptuous South Indian meal until I landed here. Garden cafe completes its 50 years and probably I came here at the best time. It is located in Hazra, opposite to the lane of Paramount Nursing home.
If we talk about the interiors, it has a very good seating arrangement, appropriate lighting and a hygenic kitchen. Service is impeccably good. I found the manager and his staffs pretty humble. This cafe has 89 varities of Dosa which every vegetarian and South Indian food lovers must try.
I tried their hot coffee which is generally known as Filter Kaapi or Kaapi Nirvana and it was quite rejuvenating. With that, complimented mixed uttapam and babycorn uttapam. The taste was unmatched and the latter one os highly recommended.
With cold coffee, I tried their Dahi vada, Masala Vada and Sada Vada. These were absolutely flawless and delectable hence these are "MUST TRY".
What stood out actually was, the finger fried idly. At a glance, you may assume it as potato wedges, but it is idly, cut into wedges and deep fried in such a manner that the look seems more like a potato. Amazing? Well it tastes heavenly good. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Cheese idly was one of my favourites. Idlies, slightly fried and garnished with cheese grabbed my heart instantly. Brownie points for the sambhar dip. 😍
I tried their special dosas like, Tiranga Dosa, Topi Dosa and Salad Dosa. These didn't only taste good but the look itself satiated our hunger. These dosas complimented well with mango blossom and orange blossom.
Finally, I ended my brunch with the diva of all...
Cheese mushroom pizza and mixed cheese pizza. Both were cheesy and had enough of veggies and condiments to fulfill our hunger pangs. These complimented well with their in-house chips called, Jiggis chips. ☺
So vegetarians and suckers of South Indian cuisines! Garden cafe has all the amenities to serve you well hence, please give'em a visit. I'm sure, you'll be delighted.

Good restrurant with resonable price shop and hotel
One of the most difficult to locate places. I stumbled across this place accidentally. The food is great for the price, and is cheap. What else could you ask for? The menu is mostly south indian, but there are a bunch of other things like pizzas and some other specials too. The staff is really nice, and the owner is too.
A very nice hotel with variety of food. People from other state and get their taste here. Prices are not high. Less public is found during September.
