Karco - The Faded Glory !m When I first visited this place I was a kid. I remember that me & my uncle was doing some shopping in Esplanade & while returning he mentioned- ‘Chol Kolkatar ek sera roll er dokane jai’ ! He worked in Esplanade from late 60’s & I always feel thrilled about this part of the city when I hear his experience about food, cinemas, hogg market etc... We took liver roll & chicken egg roll as much I can remember & believe me or not that’s the first time I ever tasted real rolls in my life! Unforgettable experience! What a taste... Time flew & It remained closed for sometimes. In 2000’s , I went there again...I felt there like a whole different place! Menus, recipes & the decor ! I ordered the rolls with an addition of Roasted chicken! I loved the roast but the roll is somehow lost it’s uniqueness... Though we enjoyed the food thoroughly but when I left the place I didn’t carry something this will remain engraved in my memories... It’s still my kaku’s dialogue after our meal that night - ‘Kirey, bolechilam na , er theke bhalo roll kolkatay khub kom ache’ ... & my super satisfying smile 😊!!!

KARCO is a old heritage restaurant of New Market Area.
Visited here many times while went for shopping .
Good sitting arrangement.
Let's come to the food.
Karco is specially famous for its Roll.
One should must try Rolls here.
Double egg chicken roll is my favorite.
And CHICKEN SANDWICH ,I just love it.
Very light and very tasteful.
Also tried fried rice and chilly chicken once.
Worth of money .
Recommended!
After a lot of shopping at dharmatala my tummy was calling for yummy noodles but ohhhh my bf doesn't love Chinese so he chose to have chicken biryani and the quantity is more more more than sufficient for 1 person while I had chicken chowmin
When you are hungry af these kind of roadside restros are always there to chill your stomach. Have decent ambience and separate section for ac. Staffs are good, food qualities are also good.
We have tried egg fried rice and chilli chicken. The fried rice was nice, chilli chicken was a little spicy. Price for quantity is very good. 1plate fried rice is enough for 2person. I was very hungry so forgot to click pictures. Recommended ✅

I have been there number of times. Chicken hot and sour soup is my favourite. It is pocket friendly and they have Two sections- Air-conditioned and other have is non- air conditioned. They serve good Chinese food.
This place is very very reasonable and best with quantity they serve the so much that 3 person cannot complete the plater... In a good note... Cheap and best ❤️
The ambiance was really comfortable and welcoming.
We ordered chicken and mutton biriyani, and mutton korma. The mutton korma was so good
The restaurant is at a pretty fine position, right in the middle of New Market. The food here is quite good, ample amount according to cost. The amount of food is good to satisfy your hunger and taste at very less cost.
There is also an AC section in the restaurant, where service charges apply. Nonetheless, it is good, everyone can go have a try there.
Overall a good experience.
Definitely will visit again.
It is very old joint.
Located new market area.
Food quality and quantity are very good.
Pocket friendly restaurant.
We visit this place many times.
Ordered Chicken fried rice 5/5
Schezwan Chicken 5/5
Chicken biriyani 5/5
This is an outlet that I have been visiting regularly since my childhood and boy.. the nostalgia of this place is just amazing. A little known (probably) restaurant among new generation kids, this is a hidden treasure right on the entrance to New Market (opposite 'The Biriyani House', at the end to exit towards 'Roxy' cinema hall). However this joint for me is special because of only 1 signature dish, which is not available elsewhere (since last few years I have heard is also available in 'Regent') - 'Chicken Afghani' cutlet. This is just an amazing dish and my all time favorite. It is a large size chicken cutlet soaked in a spicy vegetable (seasonal) gravy which gives it a unique taste an flavor. Just try it once with Rumali Roti or even sliced bread (at home). Off late, the size has reduced a bit, may be due to cost pressures. Also another unique experience here was 'Live' English music band performance, especially during Christmas, Puja and New Year's eve.. not sure if this is maintained nowadays. Other dishes to try - Special Mughlai, Fish Fry (real bhetki is used), Chicken Kabiraji cutlet, Special Egg chicken Roll. I have never tried anything else here.
I was shopping with my father when he took me to this place suddenly and I actually felt weird as it was inside and was not sure of the food. But life is full of surprises and my father ordered the shown dishes.
Namely :-. 1- (first food beside the right hand) is Thai tinmul rice ( rice chopsuay and mixed chicken prawn and rice)
2:-. (right infornt the first one) is mixed chow
3:- sweet and sour chicken.
The quality was awesome. Unexpectedly awesome and the food (1 specially) was awesome. Such Thai food is hard to get.
It located right on the first floor sometimes hard to find yet worth it.
The decor may not be so so good but it's well being and the staff is very courteous and very friendly and well natured. They don't even take much longer for the food.
I even ordered and extra packet for home.
This is an age old restaurant in the new market area to fill your tummy after a hectic session of shopping. The ambience may not be impressive but the food was satisfying. Divided in two sections- A.C and non A C this place remains crowded most of the time. We had fish fingers, chicken fried rice, egg fried rice, chilly chicken and fish manchurian. All of them was tasty and fulfilled our craving . The fish finger was made with soft marinated fish with a crispy coating and adequately fried. Single plate of rice was perfect for two and the side dishes were perfectly prepared with adequate gravy and 8pieces of chicken/fish. The pocket pinch was also satisfying for us.
This place is very small, not much people know about it. It definitely is a hidden gem. The food is fantastic and authentic. The staff is very courteous and humble. They service is a little slow but the food is worth the wait. The Prawn Manchurian Balls are a must have. Absolutely love this place.
My love and hunt for Rolls seems to be really never ending. And such enamored I am about Rolls, that most of the time I end up being baffled within the numerous options in a menu card to order a suitable dish for me,and then take refuge to my all time favorite Kathi roll.
New Market is probably the Roll hub of Calcutta. This place always comes with surprises, and never lets anyone to forget the charm and pleasantness.
Heritage Karco used to be one of the most happening bar & restaurant of its surroundings.Evenings were full of cheers and jubilation.Tunes of popular songs would emanate from the inside.Another distinguishing feature of this place was the finest Kathi Rolls. But as the time passed,it has lost much of the glory of its heydays. The only silver lining that remained is their rolls, which still amazes and triggers nostalgia.
Prices are low, nowadays the interior looks ragged and deglamorised. But their Rolls still steal the show.
Been to this place a number of times. I love the fish roll which they serve. I always order it. More than a roll it looks like a cutlet. It has a fillings with prawns and wrapped with bhetki fillet and then coated and fried. I will surely suggest this. It is very heavy and yum. All over I like their North Indian, rolls and cutlet section more than the Chinese. Chilli fish which I ordered once had a very bad smell. Otherwise quantity is really good.
We ordered two egg fried rice with hot garlic chicken food was tasty and the quantity was also very satisfying ambience was quite good they have two sections ac and non a.c. staffs are good nice place to hangout with friends and family..
One of the best restaurants ever been please try the Chinese cuisine. Must try the special Thai karco . It is sufficient 3 people .. If you want some wonderful food at a low rate this place is for u
awsome food.. ac non-ac both section available.staffs are good.. reasonable price.. fast service.. karco special chicken is very tasty.. must try chinese chicken pakora..
Set in the busy shopping zone of New Market, Esplanade Kolkata, this is a very popular and quite old food joint. They have both A.C. and non A.C. sections and is quite crowded during the peak shopping hours. Tired from your shopping spree you surely can think of grabbing a bite here. They have a separate roll corner too. Their Chinese dishes are a must must try. Personally I would recommend their Schezwan Rice to you. It's a bit on the spicy side but if you have cravings for all things spicy then surely you should go for it. The only drawback of this place is their slow service. Otherwise it's a good place to go to.
It is a very old restaurant situated on the entrance of New Market , they serve good food, Chinese dishes and rolls are very yumm here, also ive tried the prawn pulao which was very tasty and mughlai Chicken was also great...also tried the Karco special chicken which was little on the creamier side with chopped egg on top it won't be so spicy ..
The staff was arrogant ...
Otherwise it is good as the food is good
A good place to have Chinese. Went there with friends after shopping. located at the new market area hogg market.the service is quick. Staffs are well behaved. We ordered Mixed fried rice and chicken manchurian.

Went to this place many times to have their mixed fried rice and chicken manchurian. Located inside hogg market in new market area. The taste is good and they serve very suitable quantity compared with the price. The service is quick and prompt. Overall liked it
Heard so much about this place from my in-laws had to pay a visit. While shopping in New market,me andy mother-in-law decided to have a quick lunch here. We ordered chilli Chicken and fried rice and it was delicious. Since it's completely renovated I couldn't relate much. Cheap food but good food. Whenever I am hurry while shopping I would chose Karco over Badsha anyday.
went for dinner with a friend. it's just at the entrance of Hogg market. we tried their schezuan mixed fried rice and chicken Manchurian and both these tasted so differently good from other places.. the fish fry was also very tasty much better from other nearby restaurants.. the prices are very reasonable.. the staffs are very friendly.. must try if in New market.
one of the Heritage food outlet in Kolkata. This needs no introduction for sure. Yes, it is not a place with fine dining experience, but it is a place where you can get some fine food items with a budget price. Most importantly some dishes, that they are just best and carrying some privileged legacy.
Location:
___________
It is in the New Market. The name is enough to locate this restaurant.
Ambiance:
____________
It is a very simple old place. Nothing to be cheerish , if you ask about the decoration and ambiance. Yes, they have two sections- AC and Non AC.
Food:
_______
We were there just for a small bite. So we had just a few items.
✓ Chicken Afgani - this place is known for this from year. Why? just have this one. You will understand the reason. It was just amazing in taste. Chicken Afgani with gravy Vegetables. Superb.
✓ Mushroom Prawn Omlete - very very nice. the portion is also huge.
All that cost around 300 INR. It was sufficient to full one stomach for sure.
Don't go by the look and ambiance, just visit for their food , specially - Chicken Afgani.

Esplanade is known for shopping, street food and the crowd and yeah i vistied a lot here for shopping. That day was also a quick shopping day.
Heritage Karco is a very old restaurant but i didn't know much about the place and never visited before.
So , After completed shopping i hit the place for a quick bite and ordered a chicken roll.
They have counters outside for rolls and momos and for dinning they have separate space.
The chicken rolls was decent but not upto the mark.
Good for pocket friendly dining and quick bite. Other than that nothing special to discuss about.
You can give it a visit at least once.
I have been in New market area quite a lot and have seen this restaurant many a times but haven't tried their dishes till date. Today I was lucky to set my foot in here. Located just opposite to the blue print medical hall. Another nearest landmark is Citi mart mall. Anyway coming to the sitting arrangements it has both AC and Non AC sitting. I've ordered Chicken corn soup, Mixed Chowmin, Chilli Mushrooms. Quality and Quantity was quite high, good enough for two people. Price is also reasonable. Pocket friendly restaurant. Service is also good. Overall a nice ambience and nice memory.
A definite heritage joint in the New Market area.I had some of the best in terms of Dahi Vada and Chinese food while I was a teenager.Have not been there lately but would love to try it out.
This place is quite old and classic , located in the heart of central kolkata. We went there and ordered thai karco special... the dish was unique and fulfilling... it had almost all the addons one can expect in a dish... it ceritainly takes time to prepare but its worth the wait!
Located behind Grand Hotel Kolkata is a hidden gem that needs to be visited once. Be rest assured that it wont disappoint you. I ordered Fish and Chips and I must say this is one of the best I tasted in Kolkata. Rather I would say this can even compete with some that I had in the UK during my stay there. The massive portion consisted of a battered fish fillet (seemed vetki) and with that came a portion of chips and sauteed peas and carrots. This huge portion of fish was crisp outside and juicy inside. Everything seemed so perfect.
Service was prompt and ambience was ok.
Please do visit this place if you are a fish fanatic.
I had paid a visit to this restaurant with my buddies and well it was an absolute delight to taste the delicacies. The chicken pakodas were extremely delicious and very much presentable. The chicken bharta had a perfect mixture of eggs in its gravy. A delightful lunch indeed. The only pain being the taxes :p

My best choice for hanging out with friends and family in New Market area. One of the oldest restaurants. I remember having live music there in my childhood days.
I love this place because of its quality food, ambience and spaciousness.
Best dish is Roasted Chicken.
Chinese dishes are delicious. Would recommend all varieties of their mixed noodles,be it Singapore Manchurian or Schezwan noodles.. which are loaded with meat eggs and prawns.Quantity is more than enough for two people..side dishes are also good. Please try their Chinese fish finger and momos. Chicken steam momos are just heaven..eight large momos with a steaming hot bowl of soup..the momos are so soft they just melt inside your mouth.
Nice place to chill and satisfy your hunger after an exhausting round of shopping. Located inside New Market, it gives a true heritage look and feel and the cuisine is strictly Calcuttan, serving great tea, coffee, cuttlets, rolls, mughlai parantha etc.
Its one of the oldest restaurant in new market area.
Tried out der mixed chowmein and i must say its actually pretty good..
Other items were good as well
We had mixed fried rice, chicken manchurian , sweet corn soup and garluc chicken as well
We were 5 and the quantity served in a bowl was enough for us..
Wud love to visit again and try out der othet dishes tOo
Visited this place quite a few times.I love their special moghlai wrapped with an egg omlete. And also their chowmein.Chinese gravy items were not that uptothe mark.Price is also on the lower side and quite affordable😊
This restaurant is my favourite one just for the mixed hakka noodles. The price is very reasonable and the amount is adequate for two.The interior is not remarkable. But if you taste mixed hakka noodles from this restaurant then you will love this place.
Have heard about it from my mother when during her younger days she used to frequent it with her colleagues and friends. She had spoken highly about it, and had mentioned the dish "boti chicken" which was popular at that time.
Today when I went there, I looked for the dish, but no, it has been replaced a long time ago. So settled for grilled chicken instead. It was good enough, no scope of complaint. The masala coke could have been better.
The service is prompt but the staff are not friendly, mechanical.
The restaurant is spacious, can fit in lots of people at one time.
Price pocket friendly. Parking no problem if you manage to get a parking space.
Good place to drop in when you have very little in your pocket but would prefer to eat in a cozy corner of a restaurant, being waited upon by staff.
Liver Curry @ Rs 95 & Special Mughlai Paratha @ Rs 82, the Stuffed Mughlai Paratha was coated with Egg again it was awesome :)
Though I could not eat the Liver curry so Parceled, charge was 5rs and Karco Provides 1ltr. Kinley Mineral water once you seat, that is 24 rs.. so My over all bill was rs 225 with GST @ Heritage Karco, New Market Area, Esplanade , Kolkata (13th September,2017)
Been there for umpteen times...situated in the New Market Area,it's an old eatery serving foodies since a long time back. Their Biryani is tasty and light. I also love their Chicken Chowmein and Chicken Manchurian. Pocket Friendly. Prompt Service. No Regrets :)!
We stumbled upon this eatery while shopping at New Market. The place has two section. One with A.C. and the another Non-AC. The decor is fine and has lots of space. We tried the Singapore fried rice and chatpata chicken. Both of the dishes were surprisingly good. The rice was flavourful and chicken was nicely cooked. After a long time, I really liked the sweet and sour chicken . This one is a good place to satiate your hunger pangs after shopping
A good restaurant in new market area.. serves fabulous chinese dishes.. mixed fried rice, chicken chowmein are really awesome.. and the chicken manchurian is superb with a delicious gravy.. the restaurant is also famous for its egg roll, mutton roll etc.. ambience is ordinary and the price is cheap.. both non a.c and non a.c seating area are available.. quantity is pretty good and the service is also prompt..
pocket friendly, delicious food.
The location is the plus point of this place as it is a gateway for the hungry & tired customers hopping at New market area
I visit the place frequently. Its an average restaurant with tasty foods. You can have Chinese, Indian, Mughlai there. The place is good for a normal lunch. Service is average.
Been to this place a number of times, food is good and yes obviously the hospitality is awesome, they take some time to get you the order however it's worth waiting.
Visited this place on a Wednesday afternoon. Not hard to find and near to the Esplanade metro
(about 7 mins walking distance from the metro entrance). Situated on the first floor of a shopping complex, this place is literally a chhupa rustam. As soon as we entered, the staff greeted us courteously. They have a separate air conditioned cubicle where we sat. Overall service was prompt. There were 2 of us; we ordered 1 plate of Veg Chow and 1 dish of Garlic Chicken(8 pieces). The Veg Chow was standard but the Garlic Chicken was bang ON POINT. The quantity given was enough for the two of us. Ambience was overall quite nice.
Would love to come back again.

It's located in such a lovely spot. It's indeed a hidden gem. Fish fry are their speciality. Chinese dishes taste good too. As per price am happy with the service and interiors. Staff is very courteous.
Hello all , at times when nostalgia comes first before anything else , well this one place sure does that . Also accompanied with it good ole flavored food , very pocket friendly prices , quantity wise heavy and tasty too , well maybe some items are on the oily side . Do visit this place if you are in that area . Few of my favorite is thai karco special (which i will warn not to try alone as i guess one plate qty is enough for 3 person ) thai tinmul nonveg rice and chicken chatpata. Happy eating.
Im visiting this restaurant since I was a kid. Awesomely located. right after shipping you can drop in here and grab something to gratify your taste buds. Both food quality and quantity is pretty well. Can be visited with friends and family. Friendly staff and cheap food. what else do you need???
Had been to new market since childhood but to my utter surprise, I never noticed this place until my husband told me about it. And boy, what a discovery for me. I instantly fell in love with this place because of the behaviour of our server. We ordered chicken momo, moghlai paratha and coffee. The food was awesome and I never had such mouth watering moghlai paratha ever in my life. It was crispy and yummy. And the icing on the top was its pricing. The total bill was below 300 bucks. This place is a must try for everyone.
Karco used to be one of our lunch destination when ever we visited new market. Grilled chicken used to be our favourite and standard dish to order. One a recent visit the location has been shifted post a fire that broke out at New market many years back but the flavours remains the same at a reasonable price line. The menu has been made more commercial with the addition of Chinese momos and rolls. I wonder why the chicken roll has not been rated as one of the best in town. Momos were also very good with a nice soup unlike the watery rubbish which most places offer.
Food is of great quality and quantity within reasonable price. Not much wide variety, but it's good for a regular meal. Taste is lovely. #fp
A heritage joint which is there for ages with its nostalgic ambience. The standard of the food has been very well maintained with its prompt service. Visited today after a long time with an old friend. Ordered Roast Chicken and Chicken Sandwich. The roast chicken is a continental dish at an unbelievable affordable price. The chicken was soft, tender and not overcooked. Not for health freaks as it is bit oily. But the taste was heavenly and the portion was more than adequate. The chicken sandwich was good too with three sandwich per plate. I had to have a very light dinner after this gastronomical affair.
Very old and famous chinese restro introduced by my mom long time back. With age their quality and quantity has remained gr8. I recommend their momos and noodles. Even their veg manchurian is very crispy. Karco is an example of a restro which has maintained it's aura and charm through the times.
Heritage Karco, New Market
Location: opposite Kashmiri Shawl shop hogg market 1st floor
very spacious and normal ambiance with a good look and this restro is spacious as well.
we ordered:
1 plate mixed chowmin
1 plate chicken manchurian (8 pieces)
both the dish were tasty but noodles was oily . sufficient amount of chicken and prawns were there.
the gravy of the manchurian chicken tasted WOW! It was worth of every bite ...
Price is very reasonable ..
love to visit again :)
Been there recently after years. The place has the same charm. Chinese food and biryani is good. It was not taking cards. Had to pay in cash.
I would have rated this place more than 5 if there were more green darks. Been there for decades, used to be my favourite from my childhood days. We would do the puja shoppings from new market & head toward this joint afterwards. Brings back so many memories, memories of my father, memories of being content with small things in life.
Trivia: Owner of this place is Mr.Kar & the name derived from his last name & the CO!
Had been here years ago but I remember it distinctly coz it was our college frnds groups 1st outing.
Not a hi-fi place .
Minial ambiance
But a affordable place where the quantity of food is grt.
Food is gud if not extraordinaryly great.
We ordered
Chicken chowmin
Chicken choose
Mixed fried rice 2 plates
Shewzwan chicken
Chilly fish
And ginger chicken
This was enough for a group of 6 people.
Its serving food since years.. Placed and heart of d busiest market area of kolkata.. It serves Indian ND Chinese cuisines mostly as well as snacks..tastes being average.. Pocket friendly..
One of the oldest eateries in the city, karco is still a favorite amongst all the shoppers who stop by to grab a quick lunch after a hectic day of shopping at the new market area.
It might not be at par with the other dining outlets with pretty and expensive decor and creative menu but it does offer you cheap and fulfilling good food you can always count on. The menu is pocket friendly and fills your stomach.
So it would be really odd to compare it with any other eatery because this joint ages back to the time when it was the only affordable eatery in town serving Chinese food..
My Best choice for hanging out with friends and family in New Market area. Have A.C. and Non A.C. both. Varieties of dishes available. Best is Roasted Chicken.
It's no fancy place. But reasonable price for good food. And the amount was sufficient. All that you can expect from an eatery running for so many years
It's @friedrice is the most amazing thing you'll taste ever💗 It's situated in the heart of new market and serves the tastiest yet pocket friendly meals available, I've had multiple meals here including fried rice, chowmein, veg corn soup, chilli paneer, chilli chicken and mughlai paratha, everything was amazing and worth traveling that far to eat but the show stealer is the egg fried rice for me. I would totally suggest people to visit this place for a hearty meal.
Not like earlier days. Food quality deteriorated. Probably ownership has changed.
we ordered two chicken biriyanis and a chicken butter masala. the food was good and the quantity was also good. sitting arrangement wise they have both ac and non ac portions.
the place is not too trendy but it has some heritage charm to it. staffs are good and polite
now come to the main part. the food was good as we expected. At Esplanade i guess this the place where you should go to grab biriyani instead of going to aminiya.
Its 85 year old restaurant in New Market. Price is very much pocket friendly, with a good ambience.
Has both AC and non-AC seatings. Reasonably priced. Bottled water, chargeable. No free water.
Very testy food
Very good quality
I am impressed
It's a awesome place,foods are also delicious,must try the karco Thai special❤️❤️dish
This is truly a heritage restaurant. There is a wide choice of menu options. Surprisingly we found the non AC section so cool and tranquil that we sat there instead of the AC room. #LetsGuide
Good food in affoardable price. Every time i visit there i eat different meal Chinese and indian both food they make very different and tasty. You Must try mugalai pratha it was awesome.
Spacious. Easy to locate. Reasonably priced and one of the oldest restaurants in Kolkata. Great Service. Will definitely visit again.
I was pretty unaware of this place and regret not knowing it for these years. Great place and amazing food!! Worth Visiting!!
