Location: Nu Wan Li is located at Hazra area just five minutes walking distance from Hazra Law College (Jatin Das Park Metro Station is the nearest metro station)
Ambiance: Decor wise it is simple & traditional Chinese decor with dimly lit ambiance and neatly decorated seating arrangements where 28-30 people can accommodate at a time. But this place isn't air conditioned so be aware of that.
Pork Wonton Soup(130/-): Flavourful minced pork wrapped in wonton wraps which are not too thick. They serve 4 pork wontons in a bowl of flavourful soup.
Spare Pork Ribs in Hot Garlic Sauce (270/-): Such tender juicy pork ribs are cooked in Garlic sauce and this was the showstopper. The best thing was that the combination of fat and meat was perfect.
Mixed Fried Rice (180/-): Mixed rice was good as usual , it was full of chicken,egg, prawn and veggies.
Clay Pot chicken/ Mandarin style(230/-): This was the perfect accompaniment for the mixed Fried Rice. The sweet and tangy flavour of the Mandarin sauce was delicious. The sliced chicken pieces were juicy and did not lose its flavour when prepared in the sauce.
Awesome quality and Huge quantity of food in reasonable price is the USP for this place.

This is a hidden gem, served some of the best pork ribs I've ever had. The clay pot chicken dishes and the rice noodles are outstanding as well. Places like these need more positive recognition and promotion.

This fast food joint is located near hazra more and they offers some variety of foods at very affordable price..tried mixed fried rice and Chilli pork which my friend suggested...the chilli pork was absolutely delicious and definitely a must try...the quantity could be more but overall keeping the price in mind it is a decent joint to try out..

Nu Wan Li' is one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Calcutta and is located near Ballygunge Phari. The ambience is of a typical old-school eatery with Chinese wall hangings and pictures. I tried :-

Being one of the oldest & consistent Chinese Restaurants in Kolkata, this place my expectations to it's peak.
Speaking of Ambience, it's what you'd expect such an old place to be. Decor is basic & nothing spectacular, the place is dim lit but considerably spacious. Service too, is pretty good & nothing out of the ordinary.
Coming to Food, I liked it a lot. It wasn't any game changer but it was flavour rich & consistently well made. Especially the Chicken Preparations were delicious & noteworthy. Quantity too, is an attraction here, each easily capable of sufficing two people.
Recommended will be Double Mushroom Chicken Clay Pot & Dry Roast Chilli Pork.

This restaurant has my heart. If i am in a mood to gorge on essentially authentic chineese, I always order from Nu wan Li. Their chilli pork is all time favorite. Yesterday I ordered Mixed fried rice, chicken hakka noodles, Garlic Chicken, Veg noodles, chilli potato. Now my mom is an absolute vegetarian. She doesnt even eat onions and garlic. So i everytime call the restaurant and ask them to make without putting onion and garlic in veg dishes. Every time they are extremely polite and carefully prepare the dishes. Mixed fried rice was an absolute delicacy. Garlic chicken was light and delicious. Chicken hakka noodles was on the point. Due to pujas or something the veg noodles was a bit tangy. A Very Pocket Friendly chinese food joint serving such lip smacking chinese dishes which comes in a very large quantity and qualitywise they are also very good.
The dimly lighted sitting area was good but the AC wasn't working properly.

Coming to the Food,we had:
PORK WANTON SOUP:The soup was very light and flavourful,containing 4 pieces of wanton filled with sufficient amount of stuffing.Tasted really good.
MIXED FRIED RICE:It had a good amount of chicken,pork,eggs,veggies in it.Taste was really very good.Quantity was Huge in comparison to the pricing.
CLAY POT CHICKEN MANDARIN STYLE:Again the quantity was large.Chicken was well cooked,and also had some veggies and mushrooms in it.Tasted Good.
PORK SPARE RIBS IN HOT-GARLIC SAUCE:And this was the Showstopper.Tasted Heavenly.The Pork ribs were very well cooked.It was a little spicy though as the name suggests but it definitely stole my heart.This dish is a must try from this place. ❤️RECOMMENDED❤️

Nu Wan Li is one pocket friendly yet tasty and comfortable Chinese, Tibetian food joint. The decor of this resturant is low light with moderate table chairs, hanging chinese lanterns and pictures around.. management, staff & both the waiters are well behaved and prompt.. understands your need and can customise your orders if needed. Now the most important part - taste of food and quality is superb. I have been to this place multiple times or even ordered through zomato.. they always made me happy 🤗 If you are fond of Pork this can be one of ur fav. joint especially the spare ribs..

Nu Wan Li is an authentic Chinese restaurant on Hazra Road, which is of two mins walking distance from Hazra Law College. The restaurant has a very homely feel and a traditional Chinese decor. The restaurant though not very big has sufficient seating arrangements.
We ordered:
1. Special Chow Mein Gravy: The Cantonese noodles were non-sticky and not over-boiled. The gravy was plain, simple, and full of flavours. There were plenty of vegetables in the dish apart from prawn, chicken and egg.
2. Clay Pot Prawn/ Mandarin style: This was the perfect accompaniment for the noodles. The sweet and tangy flavour of the Mandarin sauce was delicious. The prawns were big and juicy. The prawn did not lose its flavour when prepared in the sauce. Each bite was mouth-watering.
A toothsome treat indeed. We enjoyed our lunch treat at Nu Wan Li, even though the price is a little on the higher side. The staff are very courteous and the service is prompt.
Nu Wan Li is located right opposite to Bank of Baroda (beside Hazra Law College). Previously, I have tried their Kung Pao Chicken, Chili Chicken and Wanton Soup. And this time, I tried their Machow Soup and Crispy Chicken. So. Good. I would especially recommend their Chili Chicken and Manchow Soup. The Wanton Soup, though, was a bit bland. The food wasn't very heavy on the wallet, but really good portion size and delicious. Not to mention, it's very accessible, the staff is really friendly and service is really quick! Will visit again!
I had discovered this place about a decade ago during the Durga Pujas and since then this has been like a second home to me. Almost anyone who knows me well has heard me gushing about this amazing place. The might not look appealing or glittery but it sure knows how to serve you the authentic Chinese cuisine. Their China Clay Pot series is a must try. Love this place!! 😊😊

I was introduced to this restaurant by a friend during the pujas of 2016 and since then I have visited this place atleast 5 times and it did not disappoint me even once.....Nu Wan Li is a very underrated Chinese restaurant which deserves much more recognition and appreciation than it gets. You don't need to go to China town for good Chinese. This place serves very authentic Chinese food at an extremely reasonable price.The ambiance and decor might not impress you that much but the food is sure to blow your mind. Another thing that I really appreciate about this restaurant is that they do not hike their prices or lower the quality and quantity of food even during the Pujas which is a common practice among restaurants in Kolkata(even the very famous ones do that). So, next time when you go pandal hopping all night don't forget to grab dinner from this place.
The chef's special menu is highly recommended. And my favourites are the Chinese clay pots and if you are a pork lover then this is your heaven. 😁

Few words only. Been there several times. Really the best pork in town considering a non-fine dining restaurant. Order any pork item and it's superb. Special mentions - Pork sizzler, Pork ribs cooked in hot garlic sauce and bbq sauce as well and Chill pork.

Nu Wan Li was recommended to me by a friend, with special instruction of asking for the chefs menu. I ordered a Pork Short Ribs in Black Bean Sauce and Wanton. The pork Ribs with black bean sauce was outstanding and I will keep going back for it. Liked the Wanton as well.
In my opinion the best Chinese food in the city, the interior and asthetic maybe a bit outdated, but they make no compromise when it comes two food. Both the chefs trained in Japan and sometimes cook us stuff not in the menu (Perks of being a regular), the staff are really nice too. Crispy Chicken, Double Mushroom Chicken, Chimney soup, Pork Belly in BBQ sauce are highly recommended.
This is perhaps better than all those chinese restaurants in china town tangra. Tried their all mixed soup which had prawn chicken pork mushroom and lot of veggies it was awesome, never had something like this,dont remember the name but it was in a aluminium pot(pic attached). The place is located near ballygunge law college situated on the hazra road. The entrance is dimly lit so you might find some difficulty to spot for the first time. I dined their several times as well had food home delivered. They serve authentic chinese dishes at affordable price. The place can satisfy your sudden pork cravings without a burn in your pocket. I have tried their chicken clear and sweet corn soup which are good. Their crispy babycorn, crispy chicken are very good as starters. My most favourite ia their dry chilli pork which is a must try. The noodles and fried rice are equally good especially their chilli garlic noodles. Among the sides their manchurian, hot garlic and hunan chickens are worth mentioning. The other day we had pork spare ribs in hot garlic sauce which was extremely delicious. Next time, I would like to try their chimney soup. Never judge a book by it's cover. It did take us 10mins to locate the restaurant and it does look like a shady questionable place from outside but they make really good Chinese food. 😁😁
Taste wise it has a similarity with the chinese in tangra,chinatown .

3. Chilli pork - now i normally dont eat much pork but i have to say it tasted really good. Spicy salty with soya sauce and pepper .

A hidden gem in all true sense is what I can best describe nu wan Li as. The place is almost incognito when you walk down the street.I had to stop and find the little door that takes you to chinese paradise.The ambiance is not what one should be looking for more over it might seem a little too claustrophobic.I was here for the lip smacking delicious pork dishes that I had heard so much of.

🍁Mixed Chimney Soup--The meatball soup was light but flavourful.A simple yet soulful dish involving basic flavours of the meat and the vegetables.Generous amount of mushroom,prawns and meatball almost had us full already.But how can we be here and not have a taste of the pork
🍁Pork spare ribs in black bean sauce--This by far is the most delicious and under rated pork dish in the city.The pork was as soft as butter sauteed in the black bean paste.A sweet yet tangy flavour with a hint of chilli shines through
🍁Chilli pork--The chilli pork had loads of chilli but a little less amount of pork.Nevertheless complaining about the flavours as they were spot on.

We ordered the famous Chimney which comes in a vast quantity. Make sure you order the small chimney for 2-3 people. The soup was so heavy, it had mushroom, egg, chicken,prawn,shrimp,noodles,veggies etc. We decided to try a pork dish and a chicken side dish. Pork ribs in schezwan sauce and red pepper chicken. This is a hidden gem for sure. Do visit this place for an unique food experience.

If you haven't yet visited this gem of a place which is actually quite old, you have definitely missed out on a whole lot of good food. After several days of planning I finally went there today for a Porkilicious lunch and was extremely satisfied with the quality of the dishes.
♥️ Chimney Soup: This is a must try for all. A mixed soup with all kinds of protein- Prawns, Chicken, Egg, Pork, Mushroom, with different types of fresh veggies like carrots , spinach etc is a complete meal in itself and tasted delicious. The quantity is very good, and the Small portion can be shared between 3 people easily. Costs 300rs for the Small portion.
♥️ Chilli Pork: A classic for all Pork lovers, this was made extra spicy for us on demand, and was mouth-watering. Costs 250 Rs.
♥️ Pork Spare Ribs in Black Bean Sauce: This was the best of the lot, and is highly recommended. Too delicious to say the least. Costs 260 Rs.

Nu Wan Li is a hidden gem in every way of description. This joint serves finest quality of Oriental cuisine with a special focus in their pork items. The Chimney soup (small) serves 2 persons easily with good portion of meat balls and generous amount of pork . The pork ribs in black bean sauce is a revelation , tastes yum and never had such tender, juicy , succulent pork pieces before . The interior is nicely done. The service is very good. The pocket pinch is commensurate with the portion they serve.
Overall a big thumbs up and I am going back again for sure.

Decor & service: Intricate & authentic Chinese decor - compliments the genre of food served perfectly.. Gives you a soothing yet mystic vibe right on entry.. Service is prompt and up to the mark..
Food: Well, let's come to the real deal now..
#CHIMNEYSOUP: This is thier speciality and indeed it was the star of the show. Quantity, quality, taste and variety of ingredients (generous portions of pork, chicken, prawn, lamb, mushroom and other veggies) - it's a thumbs up on every aspect.. Two of us were having a hard time finishing it since it was loaded with meat to the brim.. Mind you, we took the small one which was a steal at only 300 bucks.. (A large one is also available which caters to 5 people for only 600 bucks).. This is hands down the best chimney soup in town (keeping Eau Chew in mind as well where it costs almost double that amount)..
#PORKSPARERIBSINBLACKBEANSAUCE : This was yet another excellent dish we got to hog - the meat was extremely tender and the black bean sauce took the dish to an altogether different high..
Overall, this is a Pork haven and also a must visit for any Chinese foodlover.. Pocket pinch is unbelievably economical considering the quality of the food served..

Lemon chicken: This is for those who do not like spicy food. Very light subtle flavors of the gravy make this dish a good accompaniment with noodles and rice.
Schezwan chicken: Chicken pieces were really soft,well cooked and the sauce was spicy hot.Great for spicy food lovers.
Mixed chilly garlic noodles: Average in taste,tasted like regular hakka noodles.Nothing extraordinary. Flavors of garlic and chilly not dominant as it should have been.

Situated near my University,this is the most pocket-friendly place to satisfy your sudden pork cravings. They serve some great chilli pork (both dry and gravy). The chicken dishes are equally good and delicious. I particularly remember having a lip-smacking crispy chicken. The noodles and rice are tasty as well. The quantity is huge and absolutely worth your money.The only downside is the place is a bit shabby, particularly the entrance and the dimly lit ambience is a bit creepy. However, the staff is nice. Do try their pork dishes and you will be so happy that they don't burn a hole in your pocket, yet taste so yum!

Took out my family (of seven) to dinner here last Sunday. I had already eaten their Chinese chopsuey before and so was sure this would be a safe bet.
Before taking about the food or ambience , I would like to talk about the best part of this restaurant - the hospitable service of the staff and their accommodating nature. There is one member in our family who is a sattvik vegetarian (no onion, garlic or spring onions), and her food had to be prepared in a completely unique way. When I let them know about this predicament, they made sure that they looked into the matter with utmost care and were very careful while preparing and serving the food for us.
Now, let us come to the ambience. Yes, it IS a little shabby, or rather it is not as swanky as most other Chinese restaurants in the city but I loved the simplicity and minimalism of the place.Also,it is the entrance which is shabbier, the interiors aren't that bad.
Now, coming to the most important part - the food. We had ordered a starter of Crispy Fried Chilly Baby Corn, Veg fried rice, sweet and sour veg, Prawn and chicken fried rice, chicken Manchurian and lemon chicken. Each of the dishes tasted pretty good. It goes without saying that since the veg dishes were not in their usual avatar, they did not taste as good as they would have otherwise done, but there is no place for me to complain. The fried rice was pretty good, they were quite generous with the prawn and chicken. The Manchurian was your good, old Indian Chinese with a spicy palate. The winner though was the lemon chicken. It tasted DIVINE. The perfect balance of the tartness of lemon and the sweetness of honey was commendable. It was just amazing.
The bill for 7 people came to a mere Rs. 1191, where we had to pack almost 1/3rd of the food for home as the quantity was overwhelming.
If you are a die heart pork lover this is the place for you guys... Mind blowing presentations of pork will surely win your heart... Not sure about other presentations though... Service was super fast... Staffs are friendly... Ambience is pretty ordinary... Pocket pinch is high friendly... We tried chilly pork, spare ribs in hot garlic sauce, schezwen pork, Pork fried rice, Hunan Chicken n mixed hakka chow... All were extremely tasty n yummy... The quality n quantity is awesome... Highly recommend to all...

This restaurant is located in Hazra and can be called a hidden gem. It serves one of the best pork dishes at economical prices. I found this place and decided to visit with my friends.
The place is a little shady, it's an old restaurant with aged staff but the service is really good.
We ordered:
1. Pork fried rice- They give a good quantity of rice with minced pork pieces which are enough to serve 2-3 persons.
2. Pork ribs in black bean sauce- the pork ribs were so well cooked and together with the black bean sauce, tasted out of the world. I loved it so much I took an extra piece. The pork ribs were juicy and soft.
3. Chili pork- this dish has pork fried in chili sauce and spices and is served dry. Taste is top notch.
The presentation is ordinary and everything about this place is homely and nice. The main attraction is the tasty food, especially the pork dishes which are available at economical prices. I am a pork lover and would keep going back to these place to try all the pork dishes. Must visit this restaurant if you are a pork lover.
The ambiance may look little shabby but the quality of Chinese food they offer can beat any good Chinese restaurant in town and more importantly in a pocket friendly price. Try their clay pot chicken and crispy chilly chicken.
Nu Wan Li on Hazra road is one the best destination in town for Pork lovers. I visited here recently for dinner and loved their Pork dishes completely.

This place is the nearest Chinese joint we have in hazra...we often go there..food quality is good , quantity is also nice....I dnt like the decor...they could have illuminated a bit...food is So so
This place is hard to notice because of its inconspicuous location in Hazra road, but it's one of the averagely priced Chinese places with good food.
Their chili pork and garlic pork were tender and tasty. Pork with mushroom was a tad bland.
The noodles were regular like every other place..the hakka was a little oily and the Cantonese needed more salt.

This is an amazing, amazing place to have Chinese food. Having been visiting it for over 3 years, I find the service quick, the staff polite, the ambience quiet and welcoming and most importantly, the food DELICIOUS. The chicken here, especially, is not like anything you'd normally get in other Chinese restaurants, and then again, if quantity means a bit to you, this place has almost massive servings, with a bowl of noodles sufficient for two. The pricing is decent, and the only con is the space crunch, the restaurant being furnished with tables too small to sit four. Altogether, a 4.5/5 from me :)

Went there today with friends.After college we were extremely hungry, so just decided to hop in. We had seen this place before but tried it for the first time.
It's got a simple chinese decor and it's quite spacious, even got a table for 10.
Coming to the food, we ordered mixed chilly garlic chowmein and mixed hakka chowmein , along with chilly pork and wan-li special chilly chicken. The quantity was quite good,served hot. The chilly garlic chowmein and the chilly pork deserve a wow. The pork was well cooked and soft.
Service was quite prompt.
So it's a nearby "China Town wala" restaurant for me with the reasonable price (it's really cheap) and excellent quality as well as quantity.
Great place with good food. Love their soups and Chinese platter. Simple ambience and very pocket friendly. The staff is very nice. You get your food within 10-15mins of order. Very prompt service. Highly recommended.

Tried out chilli pork from here as take-away. The Pork was very tender and well cooked...taste was real good. Normally chilli pork is a bit spicy and hot..but this one was quiet tangy. The service was good enough and the preparation took very little time, so didn't had to wait to much.

Loved this place! Delicious food! It may not seem to be so grand from the outside, the inside is quite appealing and nicely decorated but non A.C. They give a huge quantity of food with great taste at very cheap prices! The best thing is that they do not charge any extra tax! Great place to go if you're broke but a foodie by heart!

Was my go to place for lunch during my two month internship programme at ballygunge science College. Food is good, portions are enough to serve two (especially rice and noodles). Typical Chinese décor, with lots of red colour thrown in.

Have been there twice. I must say this is pocket-friendly restaurant. Food quality is too good, delicious Chinese food. And they serve pretty good amount food. I have tried various types of Noodles, Rice and Chicken, all dishes are tasted awesome. This place looks small shabby form outside, but inside you will get a decent ambiance. Those who loves Chinese, should try here. I promise, you will not regret.
When you're short of cash this place offers tasty food at really affordable price. Do not expect 5 star ambience, it is a simple place. The taste and quality of food is good. loved the dry chilli chicken and the chilli pork (with fat) yummy 😋

One of these best places to eat Chinese Food in Kolkata. The pork ribs in hot garlic sauce is amazing. Food is reasonably priced. Small restaurant and the ambience could use an upgrade. But the quality and quantity of food make up for the lack of ambience.

It is a hidden gem in Kolkata as far as the indo-Chinese dishes are concerned. The chilli pork dry will get 10on10 any day. Normal Chilli chicken/fish/pork is equally good. Clay pot chicken, pork ribs in black bean sauce, honey chicken will get a close 9.5/10 ahead of the dry chilli pork. The soups and other starters are good as well. Infact all the dishes are well cooked. I have been a regular since 2012 and have never fallen sick eating their food. The interiors are modest and dimly lit. The owners/manager/staff are too well behaved to be true. I just love this place.

One of the few authentic Chinese restaurants outside Chinatown, with finger licking food and nice ambience, no alcohol though. Portions are big, taste is very authentic, so people expecting Indian style chinese stay away. Overall nice experience, recommended. Rice noodles and grilled pork are great items to try.

Very tasty, pure Chinese food at reasonable price. Nice environment. Humble behavior of the staffs and manager. Alcohol not allow. Family friendly.
Their Fried Rice and Noodles are quite good. Chilli Chicken was decent but the gravy could have been more flavourful. Crispy shredded chicken in starters was little disappointing as it was very sweet, almost sugary. It should have been more spicy with a tinge of black pepper.
Overall, you will get value for money, some days will be very good, while others not so much, but it won't pinch you.

As per taste: stuffing was good but the wonton was very flat. And the green pepper chicken was not upto the expectation as what it should be like. But overall it's a good experience though not the best of all. Price range is from 220-300
