Best dal poori wish they provide delivery services via Zomato. Delicious probably one of the best pooris in Kolkata must visit if you love dal poori.
The only best thing you find here is morning Dal puri. It’s the best in Kolkata. It starts around 7:00 in the morning. Sunday it’s usually crowded.
This place is almost 18yrs old and have been serving dal puris right from day one. The day it opened, it used to sell puris for ₹1 each. Expensive in local terms at that time but nevertheless the queue was long enough for one to wait for 20-30 mins. Those were the times when this joint was numero uno, undoubtedly. With the coming of 1000s of food joint in and around park street- ripon street (Thanks to the mushrooming of new residential complexes and delivery partners), this place has lost its sheen in last 2-3 yrs. Moreover the place is now reduced by 50% space due to construction.
Coming to the puri. It is still one of the best. A little smaller in size compared to older days. But the fill is a no match in this part of India. Full of dal and crispy yet least oily. The beef items are average and one should not expect it to taste extraordinary but complements well with the puri. You should sit and have it there rather than order online. The place looks small and dingy but is worth a try! Ordering it online makes it loose its crispiness and somewhat its taste.
Arguably they serve the best dal puris in town. Used to be a much better, bigger place once. They have now been reduced in size due to the separation of 2 brothers. Still, their puri, roll and biryani are good.
On the stretch of Royd Street, just in middle of Elliot Road and Bata Morh, you will find a rather small eatery with the name - 'Al Habib'.
There is nothing fancy in this eatery - no excusite sitting area or grandeur entrance. However, they are known for making brilliant "Puri" also known by "Dal Puri". Puri means a fried puffed bread being stuffed with chattu and spices.
They also serve other dishes which I am yet to try but dear this Puri is excusite in taste. They make it in a perfect way and fry in such a fashion that it will be crispy and tasty too.
The people out here - owner as well as the staff are polite and friendly. If the frying of Puri takes time, they will request you to sit. Yes, in the place where customers are meant to sit for dine in.
What I feel is, this eatery was just a small, if not roadside eatery. However with time, it graduated to being called a small restaurant and still they maintained the quality of their star item - Puri. It is a must try item!
