This is my go to place for gulping some chilled beer at an affordable price with good food as a companion. Placed on the opposite foot of Lalit Great Eastern, this place gives you a nostalgic feel of the 90's Kolkata due to its decor and furniture. The service is prompt and fast with the warm attitude of the workers. We always have a pinch of around 2000 with 6 bottles of beer, a starter and a main course. I will surely recommend this place to every one out there who are craving for some cheap beer complimented with some mouth watering food.
Just beside Lalit Great Eastern, this place will surely amaze you, with the average decorations and amazing food quality. Overall, a pocket friendly one for any purpose.

Manthan is a quintessential example of a classic Central Kolkata Bar which have satiate the thirst of generations, not to mention being accompanied by some bar snacks and long conversations.. However I feel what set this watering hole apart from others in the vicinity is the ambience which is quite posh, even suitable for women unlike many bars close by, the seating arrangement is huge, as the place itself houses two more restaurant under the same brand, yet still offering alcohol at an extremely economical rate..
This particular restaurant gives you a classic vintage feel with high ceiling, wooden furniture and big canvases in the wall.. Service can be highly unpredictable given the time of the day, from extremely polite and caring while vacant to rude and arrogant during the rush hours.. Also the servers seem to have a bossy attitude given the feel of this place.. They however do offer a wide range of appetizers from Indian to Chinese making it perfect to wash down the beverages.. We ordered 7 large pegs of White Mischief along with finger foods since weren’t in the mood for a heavy dinner:
Jade Fried Fish: Perfect company for the drinks, a distant cousin of tempura fries.. The coating was light, crisp, flaky, devoid of any extra oil and the fish was cooked to perfection.. Loved it while piping hot..
Chicken Mongolian: Boneless chicken morsels cooked in a spicy, red gravy.. The sauce tasted good enough, tangy, hot but the cubes of chickens were too irregular, some way too small to get any flavors while others were regular..
At the end it feels good at times to get a taste of nostalgia amidst all the modernizations and changes, those little chats with the servers, the classic complimentary julienne ginger and chat masala, not to forget the salted peanuts and a little camaraderie.. While we Calcuttans do embrace the newer concept of lounges and clubs, a visit to these place once in a while isn’t too bad either.. Our total cheque was just Rs. 1240/- (all incl.) for 2 people..

Located right beside The Lalit Great Eastern near Chandni Chowk Metro Station, its has 3 outlets. 2 side by side and one on the 1st floor. Simply decorated and well spacious. Been here 3 times mainly in attraction of the low cost booze. We had our office party here bcoz of the Controlled budget. The service is a bit slow and at times the young lads are confused. Their behaviour though were very courteious. Food is good. They have an open terrace for smoking, which is a nice delight for people who like to smoke. Overall its an OK place for people with limited budgets.

It's a nice place with a decent decor. Situated near the metro station. The chicken pepper fry is a must have.
Ambience is very dim and cosy. The crowd is of mostly office goers catching up for meetings and drinks. Good for taking family and kids.
Food is very tasty. The tangri kebabs , chicken bharta , peas pulao all were really yummy. Infact this is not the season of peas but the peas in peas pulao was very fresh and tasty to be honest.
The Manthan Restaurant at Waterloo street is just opposite to the Lalit. An ambience which attracts office goers and families alike. Their service is very good and menu offers you variety of dishes. Very decently priced which is easy on the pockets for everyone. Its a regular place for me to hangout.

A proper fine dining located at Waterloo street. North Indian is very good and so the place is. It's huge with friendly staff and the senior manager also take cares personally.

I went there yesterday for lunch..we took tangri kalmi kabab,it was amazing..everybody loved it..Mixed noodles,chicken was average..ambiance is really peaceful..nicely decorated..service is good..overall it's a nice place to hangout..
Another old restaurant in the esplanade area....this place has decent quality food,a decent ambience...they serve alcohol and the waiters are well behaved...service is average...overall a good restaurant if you want your pocket pinch to be low... :)
I went to this place for the first time cause my dad used to hangout here a lot few years back so I went with my family and after entering I saw fabulous ambience with total vintage type themed like the ceiling and the white color suits the royal code which is great. Service is applauded and the food is also very simple and tasty. Peaceful place.

A huge place with 2 floor sitting area. A big menu & variety of dishes. What I love about this place is their starters. I always end up in eating starters that v don't order main course. So thumbs up for the starters, I am sure main course will also be great. American corn pepper salt, Chinese, potato all are finger licking Good !
Reasonably priced, comparatively great ambience and decent quality food is what goes for this place. The outer image of this restaurant is a lot different from the slightly elegant decor on the inside. Overall, a nice place to grab a bite or drinks with friends..

Firstly thnks to zomato nd my fellow foodies to enlighten me about this place.
The interiors are very impressive, quiet and spacious.
coming to food... we decided to have 100% chinese but unfortunately their chinese kitchen was not ready by 4pm. so we had to settle for kebabs they suggested in their special menu .. it was totally mouth watering nd delicious. the drinks are quiet reasonable nd so we njyd the starters with our drinks. We ordered chicken in hot garlic sauce nd mixed schezwan rice, i must say they serve u good wuantity with appropriate quality of food.
The waiters were very well behaved though the service was a bit slow it didnt matter much if u want to spend a good time with ur friends.
but when i was billed .. they charged me for an extra dish which i didnt ordered. i pointed down their mistake nd requested to revise the bill... the attendant was polite enough to apologize for the same nd deducted the extra amount but still they charged extra percentage of vat for that extra item .. anywz i didnt made any fuzzz nd payed the amount. apart from this the experience was quiet good
Different approach to serving - sprouts, home made potato chips, aloo chat with drinks, succinct kebabs, choice of equally good Chinese food in same place, these make the place standout from run of mill bar and restaurants which are plenty in that area
They say, "Do not judge a book by it's cover" . This is appropriately applicable to describe this restaurant.
People say it is tough to locate, but what kind of a food-freak are you, if you can't hunt for such good restaurants?

Talking about the dishes, they are exquisite and so tasty. And the drinks are cheap.
The place is large and tables are well - spaced.
Indian and chinese food are my favourites and I don't think I will ever find such kind of food anywhere else at such a price.
Coming back after a long time.The service was good and prompt.Prices reasonable.Good range of light beers 🍻. The chilly chicken was very spicy. The steward changed it with less spicy version.That was unique.Should be appreciated for that.The beer was properly chilled .Bill payment was pretty quick.Washroom quite clean.

I used to go once in every 2/3 months whenever we would go to Esplande area with my parents when it was Song Hay. I still can remeber every nook nd corner of this dimly lit chinese resturant. Song Hay was part of chinese culinary experience. After the ownership chage, only yesterday I went again on 22nd august with my family. Top floor renovation work was going on in the lunch time, so we sat in the ground floor. Ordered those same soup, french fries, schezwan chicken dry (buttery smooth one of the most succulent pieces ever tasted) with chicken fried rice and manchurian chicken. I liked the food, may be we had to wait a bit longer for each item but I did not mind the delay. Going back to Manthan Song Hay was long in my bucket list, I will revisit again
Nice ambience . Very good and tasty food. Last and not least price is very reasonable . I suggest spend evening with your friends.
