Taste was authentic.. Highly recommend..
One of my favourites love the mutton kosha it's just yumm!!! If we talk about the ambience then there is nothing special with that as its a typical old North Calcutta restaurant
This is located just opposite Golbari....near five point crossing....It is also a small restaurant just like Golbari.....It is too famous in that area for its mutton kasa...But I liked their katla fish item also....It was also very much good in taste....
One of the oldest Hotel near Shyambazar 5 point , on the opposite foot of Goalbari . A normal hotel for Bengali foods but their Mutton kasha is awesome. I feel its better than Goalbari . you can take Mutton kasha or keema with Rice or Roti , u will love it . As I can remember the price is around 180 to 200 per plate mutton . I love this place just for their Mutton kasha .
Ambience – 2/5 (very small place)
Staff –4/5
Service-4/5
Food quality - 5/5
Price – low
Located near Shyambazar 5 point Rupa Restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants of Kolkata..the mutton kasha is absolutely mouth watering..No doubt its famous for Kosha Mangso..The place is a bit confined but location is very good..easily accessible..Its definetly a MUST TRY!!!
The black mutton kosha and rooti epitomises this joint. While people point to Golbari even when you ask them about Rupa restaurant - you gotta persevere and keep looking (it is in the opposite footpath) and it will be definitely worth. Tender mutton pieces in an oily, black gravy - it certainly isn’t for the faint hearted or the health freaks. But when you are done polishing off the plate you would feel happiness.
Been visiting this place since childhood. A small resturant just opposite Golbari. If given option to choose between Golbari and Rupa, I'll always prefer Rupa. Their mutton kosha tastes delicious. Oily? Yes, lots of oil.
The mutton kosha and mutton biryani are a die for. The kossa is adequate and is tender and juicy..the thick spicy gravy lingers on.. top it up with Paratha and salad and you are done. The egg torka is also yummy.
A very old and small joint near shyambazar 5 point better known for its lunch and mutton kassa. Whenever our cook is absent we bring our lunch from them. Rice, dal, aloo bhaja, muri ghonto, tangra jhaal, rui kalia are the dishes we order the most for lunch. Their mutton kassa is made of thick black colour gravy with 4 chunky pieces of mutton and it is replica if golbari mutton kassa. The only thing is that they are low in spiciness compared to golbari. Another dish is their paratha which is low in oil and more like a paratha roti and small in size. They dont have home delivery and are not entitled for swiggy delivery also which is a minus point. Price is very affordable but quality is exceptional. Since its a small place so seating is cramped and they dont have air conditioning.
Near the shyambazar five point crossing, Rupa is located on the opposite pavement of Prapti beside a juice stall. Known for their delicious mutton n chicken kasha.. This place won't disappoint you. However do not expect wonderful ambience, it's all pretty basic.
Located at the busy Shyambazar 5 point crossing, this is yet another hidden gem of North Kolkata. Few days ago went there to try their delicious mutton kasa, and to be honest was not at all disappointed. 4 medium size of mutton pieces in delicious rich blackish golbari style gravy went well with rotis. The quality was definitely good, but if the mutton pieces were a bit more soft and succulent it would have been better though. Foodies should definitely try this place at least for once.

After the recent degradation in food quality and taste of a Nostalgic Kosha Mangsho Joint near Shyambazar, this place has attracted huge interests from Kolkata based foodies.
Date: 21st April, 2018
Time: 9:30 PM Approx
We Ordered:
One Plate of Mutton Kosha,
One Plate of Mutton Liver Kosha,
Roti
Mutton Kosha:
Nice blackish gravy consisting of 5 succulent pieces of Mutton. When put inside mouth, the taste buds remind the old nostalgic Kosha Mangsho memories back. The gravy was extremely rich in taste, but super light for tummy. Mutton pieces very good in quality.
Mutton Liver Kosha:
4 large pieces of Mutton Liver, cooked in same gravy. Taste wise good.
They provide a Chatni along with the serving, which tastes really great!
Highly recommended! If you nostalgic about place, go there and get disappointed! But if you are nostalgic about taste, Rupa is must to pamper your taste buds.
Souvik Bhattacharjee (Joy Da), couldn't tag you as I am unable to find the ID.
Had some Mutton Keema and Rotis. Mutton kima is supposed to be oily, but it was definitely too oily. It was tasty though. Don't expect much of an ambience. A good alternative to Gol Bari.

don't judge a book by it's cover- dats Rupa for you. tried mutton kosha n roti n it was yummy.
Personally I prefer Gol Bari's kosha mangsho coz they serve it with paratha but Rupa does not have paratha or rumali roti. Instead they serve the mutton kosha with plain roti but taste is damn gud. It's a common man's den so u can have normal "ghar ka khana" like dal chawal n fish or indulge in rich dishes like mutton n chicken kosha/korma. Decor ia very poor but for mutton kosha u should visit the joint. Enjoy
Situated on Shyambazar patch matha more. This is the best place to try kosha mangsho (meat), be it the mutton or chicken.it is the best. The place is small with hardly any decoration for ambience.so 1 out of 5.service is a normal one 2 out of 5. But the Food is a 5 out 5.
Located near the Shyambazar five point crossing, this little eatery serves delicious kosha mangsho. The food quality is amazing but it will be a good option to get the food packed if you are finicky because the place doesn't have a great ambiance, it's more of a roadside eatery.
This small eatery situated at Shyam Bazar came as a pleasant surprise to me. The kosha mangsho tasted yummy. It is very similar to the kosha mangsho available at another famous eatery located nearby. The taste, Quality is excellent and the taste kind of lingers in your mouth. Do not expect to sit and eat if you are finicky. Best option would be to get the mangsho packed and eat at home.
While golbari has lost its charm and the quality of food completely. This outlet really does justice with the kasha mutton. Beautifully made. No one goes for ambience or service there but full marks for the food.

Small eatery near to Shyambazar five point crossing.
Interior and ambience: Little bit shabby. Sitting arrangement is congested, no air conditioning. Ambience is like a road side hotel.
Food: During day time they serve typical Bengali lunch including plain rice, average quality dal, few options for bhajas, decent quality fish and Mutton and some vegetarian dishes like sukto et al.
For Dinner, they serve hand made ruti, chicken and Mutton kosha. MUTTON KOSHA deserves special mention. At first sight the black colour gravy is non appealing but once you start eating you will love the taste and aroma. Though it's spicy and bit oily, it usually doesn't give much trouble to stomach.
Staffs: Previously there were two experienced and friendly staffs but on my recent visit four days back, I found some teenagers as staff who are bit confused and not efficient. I do not like the attitude of the manager/ owner here.
Located near the Shyambazar 5 point crossing this restaurant brings back the old flavours of Kolkata . Have been visiting this place since the days when Kolkata was Calcutta . .There is nothing to talk about the decor of this place but the ambience , smell of this place is nostalgic. I come back here again & again for my favourite Mutton Kasha . The dish is oily & rich in spices & tastes amazing . Not a dish for the so called diet loving , oil free health freaks . But if you love Mutton Kasha then you will love their preparation . I mainly prefer to pack my food to enjoy back at home . But if you are going for the takeaway option then it is better to carry your own container as their packaging is still primitive .
Golbari was closed when we visited to have the famous mutton kasha, so we came to this place.
You cannot expect a clean and hygienic place, warning you at the onset. But the food will be finger licking good. We had haath roti, kasha mangsho and alongside they give a chutney which is mind blowing. No clue about the other items they have.
Their mutton kasha is really good. Some say even better than Golbari. Better or not, I'm not that into mutton but theirs I've tasted once or twice on casual whims. One should opt for Rupa chiefly for their mutton.

This is a small restaurant at Shyambazar, just close to the 5 point crossing. Tried there once.... quite some days back..... was with a friend.... food was good.
Situated opposite to the famous Golbari, it is exactly on the first left corner of the road that head towards Khanna Cinema. If you find it difficult to locate it, just ask around.
The place might look a little shabby and old but the food is not. Mutton Kosha costs around 160 and will ignite your taste buds beyond all doubts. Roti and Mutton Kosha here is way more pleasant than what you get at Golbari.
Tip: Always ask for the extra gravy of the Kosha. It energises people. Always. :)
Went there in the evening. The restaurant was almost empty, made me wondering what I am going to experience in quality of food. Ordered for mutton kasa, after reading the reviews on zomato and paratha, but came to know that they don't serve paratha, so had to take roti. The mutton was good. Though, in my opinion, not at par with golbari, but not far below. Ambience as bad as golbari, or may be little worse. But for mutton kasa only am giving this rating.
I HAVE HAD THEIR MUTTON KASHA AND MUTTON LIVER A FEW TIMES.
MUTTON KASHA IS JUST GREAT AND AS IT SHOULD BE.
MUTTON LIVER IS EXCELLANT,THOUGH LIVER PIECES ARE BIG I WOULD RATHER PREFER MEDIUM OR SMALL PIECES.
EVERYTIME I HAVE PARCELED THE FOOD SO I AM UNAWARE OF THE SERVICES IF I DINE THEIR.
Rupa, located near Shyambazar 5 point crossing, serves quality Bengali lunch and few other items like Biryani, Kosha Mangsho etc. The Kosha Mangsho here, in my opinion, is better than its famous neighbour Golbari. But what I love this place for is the Bengali lunch they serve.
During lunch hours (except for weekends) expect to be greeted by a queue as this place is extremely popular due to its pocket-friendly and delicious menu. Its a small place, so during lunch you are expected to order fast, eat and leave. Post lunch however the place remains mostly empty, so you can go slow. Service is prompt and friendly.
My personal favourites here are the Shukto, Jhuri alu bhaja and Murighonto. Though everything else I tried here were also good.
A must try place if you are around and want to have a good Bengali lunch.
Thanks to my man for taking me at this place for that plate of mutton kosha and roti. Ufff. They were really tasty, even more than famous Golbari. This is a small place just beside Rahmania and opposite right of Golbari. The cost is real cheap and the serving boys are real cute. They are always on their toes to give you us the best possible services. This is an AGAIN AND AGAIN visitable place for me. I forgot to take pictures, will do once i go there again. My 5 star on basis of the service, behavior, taste, quality of the food. Dont miss this place if you are here.
The place is located opposite to golbari.Love the mutton kosha nd roti.I heard of this place from a relative.thanks to him.Its one of the mutton kosha u will get in Kolkata.Dknt judge the place by ambience. Go and have finger licking mutton kosha u definitely gonna love that.I haven't tried any other items yet.The rating is only for their mutton kosha.
LOCATED ON THE A.P.C. ROAD. TRY KOSA MANGSO & ROTI WITH CHUTNEY. IN LUNCH YOU WILL GET VERIOUS TYPE OF TASTY AUTHENTIC BENGALI DISHES LIKE DAL, ALU BHATE, ALU-BHAJA, SUKTO, FISH CURRY , EGG CURRY, CHICKEN N MUTTON. AWESOME Tasty FOOD SERVED BY THEIR NICE BEHAVIOR STAFF. BUT MY friends its a NON.A.C restaurant. Go for the taste guys.
This is definitely the place that will go in my good books and for the right reason. Unlike golbari the mutton kasa here is delicious and those rotis compliment them completely. Anybody who wants to try that dish should not go by the hype of other places and head directly towards this joint. At least now I know why mutton kasa is popular in these parts. Thank you for the lovely meal.
Small shop serves good homely food... only place u get the macher jhol in a matir bhar... mutton kasa is good... so is the murighonto... lovely place to have a quick cheap bengali lunch or dinner
The mutton kasa.. was fantastic to ate.. & those 'patla ruti'.. I just loved to have more of them.. #nevertheless it was really nice.. ????
looks like an average shop but serves some great food..located near shyambazar crossing rupa is a well known name since my childhood...me and Ak visited this place recently..its not a clean and tidy place but yet my love for mutton kosha pulls me here
we ordered for a chicken biriyani and mutton kosha and ruti....mutton kosha of this place is awesomeee..that dark coloured kosha mangsho with ruti tastes heavenly..i find their kosha mangsho as good as golbari's
price is average ...and food quality may not be that good...food is super tasty..i love their mutton kosha..its greatt!!
The world's greatest mutton kosha and ruti u get at rupa. A must try everyone!
P.s the rating is only for thr mutton kosha n mutton kosha only
mutton kasha. the only thing that can make this restaurant compete with the legendary GOLBARI .just go and order, you will go back to the time of the mughals, feel the slice of brown mutton in your teeth, relish the memory and come back again
The signature dish is obviously kosha mangsho which is undoubtedly far better than golbari anyday & anytime. Don't hesitaye to go by the look from outside just enjoy the mangsho & rumali roti...
Traditional eatery in North Kolkata's Shyambazar, this place has it's own charm. It might be a small ordinary eatery with hardly 4 tables at first look, but the food will definitely make you come back for more. We tried the Fish Fry, Mutton Kasha and Rotis. It was nothing short of an exceptionally "bangali" preparation. Definitely recommend this place for it's old world charm and tasty delicious Bengali mutton preparations 😋
If you actually wanna taste a good plate of Juicy Mutton Kasha, then you must come to Shyambazar & visit this place ❤️
A tiny eatery at the heart of North Calcutta. If you wanna have a good Mutton kosha with roti which will maintain an amicable relationship with your pocket then please give it a try.
It is usually a crowded place as the seating arrangement consisting only 5 tables doesn't goes well with the queue of customers. We had to wait for 20mins to have seats.
Mutton kosha was scrumptious and the tamarind chutney was too god. I loved it on my first go. You will too.
Totally worth it. On top of that, the chutney was finger licking good that they gave with rotis. Totally recommend the roti and mutton kosha.
When it comes to old eateries, you can’t really expect a decorated ambience. But, having said that, if food is your priority and not a cool aesthetic air-conditioned cafe, this place is a must visit.
We have tried almost all the food items from their menu in the past years and have always been satisfied.
Pro Tip: if you’re ordering mutton keema, ask them to give you tamarind chutney. Trust me, it tastes heavenly.
Rupa Hotel at Shyambazar is very popular nowadays. Very tasty food but too much spicy. The space is very small.
Great for, less price. That's it. Mutton and chicken curry must try. Dal is simply good.
Went to this place on a friend's suggestion, that they serve better mutton kosha then Golbari. Well, Golbari is an emotion to all the Bengalis and when someone claims another restaurant serves better, then you really need to eat it yourself to find whether it is true or not.
Located diagonally opposite to the famous Golbari near the Five point crossing, the restaurant has a small seating arrangement. So whenever, you visit them you will see a waiting line. We also had to wait for around 20 mins before we finally got a seat. Ambience is juts like a traditional pice hotel. We ordered:
- Roti
- Mutton Kasha
- Mutton Keema
Now coming to the taste, we were just blown away by the taste of the Mutton Kasha and Keema. We already saw the reviews from various sources that these items are their bestsellers. However, I until you eat it you would never believe how tasty it is. Yes, a huge amount of oil will be floating on your dishes. But if you can just sacrifice your health consciousness for one day, juat try this place. We literally ordered 7-8 extra rotis than we originally planned and had to order both the side dishes again.
Pocket pinch is not too high. So if you are around Shyambazar anytime soon just visit this place. Trust me, they are much better than Golbari for sure.
I was looking for mutton kosha and mutton liver . It was 8.30pm and liver was out of stock.
Mutton kosha was way better than golbari's mutton
Very good food with authenticity....ruti, motton kosha, motton kima and fish fry....it's really good..... every one should try it once....
Kosha mangsho from this hotel is a pure bliss 🩵
Definitely better than golbari
Rupa restaurant is located at Shyambazar more at Apc road , bengali cuisine, their best item Mutton kasha but they also make good Biriyani. Price is reasonable but space is small and non ac, they need to open a larger ac part for the customer who visit this restaurant Occasionally but their regular customer is huge. Overall an old and quality restaurant at shyambazar
The mutton keema taste still the same, mutton keema & roti is a must have here. Ambience can be made better though. Overall its a must visit.
Visited for the first time. Very decent experience with the food and service. Recommended.
Pocket pinch : Rs. 275/- for a portion of mutton kosha (4-5 small to medium size pieces) and 4 rotis. They've parotas too.
Dear Reader,
I had a fantastic experience at Rupa Restaurant in Kolkata. The non-veg food was simply amazing! The flavors were rich and the spices were perfectly balanced. I highly recommend trying their chicken curry and fish fry, both of which were cooked to perfection. The service was excellent too, with the staff being attentive and friendly. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained, providing a comfortable dining atmosphere. I would definitely visit again and recommend Rupa Restaurant to anyone looking for delicious non-veg food in Kolkata!
Thanks for your time 😊❤️
