One of the finest south Indian restaurants at the heart of Kolkata, I often love to hang around this place for its sense of delicacy❤️
This place is a pure veg place with South Indian foods. This is just beside Hatibagan Arsalan. The restaurant is clean and hygienic.
Cheese paneer onion butter Masala dosa was very good
Okay this shop is one of the oldest south indian shops in North Kolkata, I have had a good experience previously , and honestly they maintained their reputation..
So as usual the size or quantity or quality was really good .. I ordered vada which not too oily or too cold, when it arrived it was crispy ...
But there's one thing that disappointed me which is why I am giving 4 star that is the special chatni, I mean it is just way to earn 15 bucks extra, there's nothing special about it, it is just the dried version of the white chatni.. okay let me tell you what did they actually gave me
With idli and vada
Sambar
White chatni made of coconut and other things
And dried version of that white chatni named as special chatni ...
So be careful about the special chatni ..
But one thing I can assure you that the quality was really good man, and two idli or vada is enough for one's meal, I mean size is really really good ...
I couldn't capture pictures so from next time I will just try to post pictures
Ordered: Cheese Dosa and kulfi
Well the ambience is not that good but the dosa they prepare is very tasty... South Indian dishes are favourite of mine.... This food joint is located at hatibagan...visit it once
Pretty okk... Cozy ambience ...Tried their cheese dosa....it was good to be honest.... Staffs are well behaved .... Try it once... It's pocket friendly
A well known place of hatibagan for having some southindian dish ...

Dosa was full of cheese and masala
Kulfi was also good.
Overalll good experience 👍👍👍👍
The location is on the ground floor of Arsalan Hatibagan on the backside of Town School. A small quaint food joint having an accommodation of roughly 25 serves South Indian food in a hygienic manner. Idly platter and the plain Dhania dosa that we ordered was quite sumptuous for two.
It's a place my father had been taking me to right from my childhood!
All the dosas and dahi vadas I've had at this place have been consistently delicious!
Recently I tried the Dhania butter dosa and was left craving for more. This is a must visit for all!
This place is DOSA SPECIALIST😍ambience wise not huge bt food wise its fabulous mainly all kinds of dosa & the Kulfi outside of the place❤staffs are also well behaved😃want to visit again
My South-Indian-food-loving-friend Soham Coeur D'Lion insisted that I order Uttapam since these are considered as delicacies in South Indian households. Well, now I know why!
In frame: Onion Uttapam.
The Uttapams were thick, reasonably priced and more importantly delicious. Highly recommended.
One of the best places I have ever visited.we ordered paper masala dosa...food was really tasty and the staffs were well behaved and polite.abiance was also good.. must visit again..
So we had dahi wada of 90 bucks and kulfi ₹45 each a pocket pinch of 180 and we were half full. The place is small but it is very cosy inside. The staff is pretty welcoming and always greats one with a smile. It's beside the arsalan restaurant and completely act so during summers it's a relief. Food is pretty much tasty. Though I found the price of doaa bit overpriced. Rest everyone can give a visit to this place!!!
The shop present near town school, just beside the Arsalan, Hatibagan....
🔹 Ambiance: small and simple shop, but neat and clean
🔹Staff: I used to visit 3-4 times in a month...so I Know the manager/ owner...so courteous
🔹Food: this a south Indian food shop and I love dosa. The masala one and butter masala dosa the cheese dosa...and they prepare huge variety of dosa...
🔸Price: very pocket friendly 350/- for two(approx)
Its a very old place situated at hatibagan. I have been going here from my childhood. Here is a huge variety of south indian foods. I love to have dosas from here. They serve the authentic crispy papery dosa with sambar and chatni. You will definitely love foods from here.
Food hygiene, quality both are maintained nicely... Dosa was very tasty and dahi vada was too yum.. And the staffs there are very cordial.. Nice place to go with family... And it s super affordable
Their speciality is South Indian Food.....They serve various types of Dhosas....And my most favourite in New Madras Tiffin is their kulfies....Wow!! What a taste really.....I like their kulfies very much...& the Badam Milk Shake....which is a value for money.....
The place might not be all about decor or fancy things but trust me when I say they do the food right which they are supposed to do. A perfect place to go if you are craving for some south indian dishes. Purely vegetarian, the dishes served by this restaurant will definitely bring water in your mouth 🌸
This is a place where you'll get probably the tastiest south indian food in North Calcutta.
Its been many years but this restaurant with new outlook one thing which remains constant is its taste.
This is one of the better restaurants located in the Shyambazar/Hatibagan area. I have visited it several times over the past year and have liked the food, the service, and the prices.
The restaurant is a small, long room, located next to a far larger Arsalan outlet, though the restaurant is much older. The servers are polite and helpful, and will offer sensible suggestions - except for a tendency to recommend the kulfi at all times of the year! I have tried five or six kinds of dosas (including the rava and Mysore versions) and they have all been good. The idlis are also quite good. The dishes come with one uncommon accompaniment apart from the standard sambar and coconut chutney - a red chutney that is rarely seen in other South Indian restaurants in the city. It is also the one condiment that they do not refill. The standard sambar and chutney are quite good, though.
The place is very clean, and the prices are very reasonable given both the quantity and quality of the dishes. Although the place tends to get crowded during the Puja and Chaitra sales periods of the year, courtesy the shops on Bidhan Sarani, it is still a good place to stop by for a filling meal or a light snack.
Located in hatibagan this place is a hidden gem of kolkata for South Indian dishes. Tried mysore ghee dhosa and it was awesome. Price is affordable and seating place is also there. Will come back soon to try more dishes.
One of my favourite South Indian food joints in Kolkata. Both the variety and quality of food always attract me towards them. We ordered one masala dosa, one idli and one plain dosa, all were superb in taste.

A popular vegetarian restaurant located beside Arsalan in town school area...
Famous for dosa, papri Chaat and kulfi in pocket friendly price
Paid a visit to this place as my family was craving some south indian food. Not so spacious, the tables for four are smaller. But the food is nice. We ordered two special masala dosa, one paneer masala dosa, one mysore masala dosa and one plate dahi bada. The dosas were good and tummy filling with the mysore dosa being a little spicy because of the masala. And the dahi bada was also really good with the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness. All together a decent meal it was.
Food was good, but I had asked to give masala separately, which was not given.
A very pocket friendly place serving south indian cuisines which taste amazing. The quantity goes at par with the quality. And the service is pretty quick. They earlier had a smaller outlet but they've now enhanced it with better seats and air conditioning. It's located on the ground floor of arsalan.,hatibagan.
Awesome food quality and quantity specially Dahi vada and papri chaat was mind blowing and hygiene is also well maintained which is very good.
one of the best place for South Indian food and Chats.
Had Mixed chat and Dahi Vada from this place.
Both were finget licking and the price is also reasonable...❤️
We ordered Dhania Dhosha.. I love the flavour..it taste awesome. Super light and a healthy snacks.love the place and the services. 😊😊 Must visit.
This is my go to place for every South Indian food cravings. A bit highly priced given the size of the restaurant, but the food is great. Waiters and staff are very friendly.
Overall review:- 7/10
I have been there for several times since my chilhood. A small place which hardly can accommodate 15 -18 persons at a time, located just beside Arsaalan (Hatibagan).
They serve some tasty pure vegetarian South Indian delicacy.
I have tried their ;
Masala Dosha
Plain dosha
Plain cheese dosha
Vadas
Uttahapam
Idlis
Cold coffee
Lassi
and
Kulfi.
Food is tasty.
Quality is also very good.
Hygiene is well maintained.
Only the prices are a bit high.

A very good place for #foodies who like to have South Indian food. ✌🏻

Oldest south Indian food chain in north Kolkata. You will get variety of south Indian Yummy food. Price is little bit high. Located near Arsalan Hatibagan.
Service: 5/5
Ambiance: 3/5
Food: 4.5/5
Quality: 4.5/5
Quantity: 5/5
Located just beside Arsanal Hatibagan, this pocket friendly hidden gem offers a great variety of south indian dishes, specially DHOSA. From simple plain dhosa to butter onion masala dhosa with cashew, you can get it all here. A perfect place for quick bite. You can also order culfi from nearby shop. The shop is very small but well maintained and hygenic though the staffs should be more courteous. The service is quick.
Had a pleasant experience. Ordered Mysore Masal Dosa and Special Pepper Masala Dosa. Didn't find anything Special in the later one tasted like just a regular Masala Dosa but the Mysore one was really tasty. Had coffee afterwards, not the filter coffee(that I expected, although it didn't mention Filter Coffee in Menu) , but they serve in a steel cup to give you somewhat a feel.
Service was good, auto-refill of Chatni and Sambar was kept enabled. 😋😋
On the Ambience part, was a bit too clumsy.
Overall not a very bad option for a quick South Indian bite.
P. S: If you are a Koolfi lover, don't forget to try the Faluda.
Yesterday with my mom went for Shopping.. and as usual we went to new Madras Tiffin.
We have ordered for 2 nos paper masala dosa and 1 kulfi.
As these items are most favourite dish for me .. but honestly saying that prices are quite high..
For these 3 items we have spend Rs225/- which was not worth..
But food quality is good enough..
I tried masala special does and dahi vada.. was too good in taste... my best experience ever in madrasi dish.. Will visit frequently as per mode.
d taste was awsum will order again😊
New Madras Tiffin has been one of the best places to eat in less budget.
A veg restaurant which serves amazing doses and dahi bhallas.
This time had ordered home dahi bhalla and tastes as usual amazing and yummy.
please give proper packing and spoons to eat
Prompt service and the food quality is very good but the place is very small. If you want to taste some good south Indian food go for this place and it will surely satisfy your taste buds
Whenever I'm in hatibagan and crave for some snacks I visit this place. One of the best south indian joints in Kolkata. In every visit I try to have three of my favourite items of this place. Masala dosa, papdi chat and kulfi.Hope this joint continue their journey with good quality of food.
Located beside arsalan hatibagan.. Small place, appox 25 to 30 people can sit.. Went there with my brother few days ago.. Had ordered plain dosa.. Sambar, coconut chutney and another chutney was given with it.. I am not a South Indian food lover, but really love this restaurant 's food.. We also ordered dahi vada and cold coffee.. my personal favorite from this restaurant is the masala dosa, and honestly i don't feel like experimenting with other items. But yes, i will try them in future, and for masala dosa- it was absolutely great. The dosas of this restaurant, has always been great. The kulfi was quite good and so were the staffs and the service.
aswome person..... & quick delivery
Really a small store situated near Town School of Hatibagan and just beside Arsalan. Old in the business, this outlet showcases quality South Indian dishes. Dosa is their speciality. They offer several variations of Dosa, among which Masala Dosa is the most popular one.
I would recommend Special Masala Dosa as it contains delicious filling containing potato along with carrot, coconut, nuts, vegetables etc.
Proudly serving foodies for more than 30 years now, I hardly found a place offering such good South Indian food in Kolkata.
This is a small joint near Town school serving south Indian food. Along with coffee and kulfi they serve different kinds of dosa like cheese dosa , paneer dosa , rava dosa and many more.
I had their Mysore masala dosa and kulfi.
Both were amazing.
They really make the best dosa in North Kolkata.
The staffs here are very soft spoken and mannered. This place earns some more points for it's cleaniless.
If love South Indian dishes then this is ur place.
Recommended.
A very old eatery near town school which serves south Indian dishes as the name suggests. I have tried their masala dosa which tastes really good with good amount of masala inside as well as nariyal chatni and sambhar. The price is moderate.
good presentation along with taste
I have been going here since I was a child. Now the size of the restaurant has lessened due to the presence of Arsalan. But Dosa are still the same and even better the best place to eat Dosa in shyambazar . Though the price have increased a bit but it is still worth it.
The quality remains same for the last 20 years.
Visited for lunch today...They have varieties of South Indian Dishes..A very good place for South Indian lovers...keep visiting their place because of their authenticity of the recipe and the taste of their dosa and other South Indian dishes..
We only tried with their :
Plain Paper Dosa
Butter Masala Dosa (so delicious ,fresh & full of Butter)
Rose Lassi
Kulfi
South Indian lovers must visit here...must visit
One of the very few South Indian eateries in predominantly Bengali part of the city .
Food was good and wholesome. Though the taste was a bit hot considering South Indian pellet.
The place is always full and has a queue when we visited the joint.
Price is reasonable and service is fast.
No real complaints. Popular so cramped at even 16:00. You do not want to be paying while someone is trying to get in or out. Clean and has wall fans. Not the most comfortable seating. Four small tables, five medium.
Dhaniya (coriander leaf) special masala dosa huge and tasty. But I found two ingredients in the stuffing odd. Well, new to me. One was a crunchy white vegetable. Turnip? And the green peas were also not 100% cooked. Is that possi le? A nice change for India actually. Soybeans also? Coconut chutney had insufficient black mustard seeds for me. Most sunk to the bottom which I also found odd. And it was thinner than I expected, by about 20%.
I made a mistake apparently. I thought I was ordering those crispy deep-fried lentil vadas but got the standard soft ones. I must learn the correct name.
Good service. Minimum 300 to use card (posted). Waiter was a bit clingy when it came time to pay (hanging around - clearly waiting for a tip - but he offered the shared tray of mouth-refreshing seeds without a spoon and anyway several persons served me). The manager seemed to be very slightly grumpy that I wanted to pay by card but he did not refuse me. It did take a very long time to process, like two minutes instead of two seconds. 'Slow server' was the excuse.
So, all the people are more or less pleasant, the atmosphere is OK, but the food is so-so (acceptable). Best was the sambar (soup). Lots of vegetables in it!
INR320 w/ taxes for a South Indian light meal and a snack
Don’t go there if are looking for a fine dinner. But if you are up for some lip smacking South Indian Veg dishes, then this definitely should be in your bucket list. The service is real quick. This is a very old place. But it is great to see that they are living upto the quality through decades.
I tried the Butter Masala Dosa and dahi vada.
The masala dosa was medium sized and the we had asked for a good amount of the aloo masala because they give very little masala otherwise. The dosa was extremely thin and crispy almost like paper. The price of masala dosa was around 140 bucks.
The dahi vada was great, 2 big sized vadas with lots of imli chutney. Dahi vada tasted really good. The price of the vadas were 110-120 per plate.
Everything about the hotel reminded of a traditional South Indian restaurant. The small seating areas, seats placed close to each other. Very selective menu, the people from south and the taste. It’s nice to see a typical South Indian restaurant in the city.
I have tried idli and dhosa, idli was good but special masala dhosa was not that great I will suggest you to have normal masala dhosa.
I visited this restaurant many many times since my childhood.
I order butter onion masala dosa, big size dosa stuffed with masala of mash poteto, onion, tasted peanuts, pea and coconut.
Taste is awesome as usual.
New Madras Tiffin is a proper South Indian food shop. I love dhosa in South Indian cuisine and so go here whenever I want to eat good dhosa. The space of this restaurant is very small but no comments about their service. According to the price, the quantity and quality of the food is perfect. Many types of dosa, Dahi bada, Utthapam, Idli, Sambar bada, Upma, Poha, Lassi, Keshar kulfi, Coffee and many more good dishes are available here.
Best south Indian restaurant in North Kolkata I've ever visited. The price is quite reasonable and every dishes are well-cooked.
If anyone want to have a good south Indian meal then this is the place. Have been visiting the restaurant for ages now from childhood to adult, and never got disappointed ever.
