The food this place serves is great. I have tried the indian and tandoori dishes and it tastes awesome. Though the restaurant was under construction since i visited there but they provide home deliveries. They serve delicious biriyani and chicken sides.
This bistro is located in Sakherbazaar area and is one of the better places in Behala. To be more specific, it is located exactly at the four point crossing of James Long Sarani of Sakherbazaar. I had ordered food for home delivery and hence, I won't be able to comment about the interior decoration or the ambience maintained by this restaurant.
I had ordered Mixed Fries Rice and Kadhai Chicken.
Mixed Fried Rice: Excellently prepared. The amount was sumptuous too. The taste was superb with ample of chicken, egg and prawn pieces. This dish is a must try.
Kadhai Chicken: This was another delicious dish. The Chinese and the Mughlai items complemented each other quite well. The chicken was spicy with a lot of gravy and would go even better with naans or paranthas. Nonetheless, it went well with the rice we had ordered. Soft and succulent chicken pieces with spicy gravy makes it a good combination.
I remember that once upon a time Jafran used to boast about a rating of 4.4 in Zomato. By tasting their food today, I definitely feel that this place deserves such good rating. I hope I get to see the ratings go up really soon. Looking forward to visiting this place and enjoying their food again.
We have order food 2 to 3 times and were never disappointed. I think it is one of the best restaurants in Behala. The chicken chaap was too yummy. The best part is they don't use dalda. Tsighoi chicken tasted sweet and tangy. Butter garlic fried rice and panir butter masala also taste good. Quite satisfied with food quality and would definitely recommend to others.
I ordered for some delivery by Zomato. Surprising good service compared to my past experience with Zomato delivery. The food was pretty good - we got dal makhani, fried rice and chili noodles. Dal was unnecessarily oily and noodles were a bit too spicy but I liked the flavors in both.
Not keen on dining in but definitely a good option for home delivery.
I ordered mutton biriyani and chicken chaap through swiggy from this joint. The delivery was fast thanks for that to Jafran and Swiggy.Coming to the test the mutton biriyani it was really good.Mutton piece was soft and tender and rice was melt in mouth. The master stroke was the chaap @ 99Β onlyΒ which went very well with the biriyani.Looking to dine in here soon.
I ordered chicken reshmi , dal makhani , Hydrebadi spocy chicken,Lachha paratha for delivery this week. First I would say the delivery boy was really sober. Now coming to the food it tasted very good. The side dish went well witht he lachha .The reshmi also tasted well. The dal makhani was ok.The best part is the price is very reasonable.Jafran gives sides at 139 maintaining the same quality. The change in their menu is really very good and competitive. Over all a nice dinner at very reasonable rate.Lokking forward to have more.
I absolutely loved the food but the service wasn't good. Just a single waiter to handle all the rush (maybe others were absent on the day I visited) , and he didn't even serve the dish on my plate even after I requested him to do so.
The place is small however cozy. And very pocket friendly indeed!
The most underrated resturant in Behala Sakher Bazar James Long Xing. 5 mins walk from my place. Good place to dine with family and friends. The food is good in terms of quality and quantity.
Had ordered Parindai e Lashkar ,dudh roti, moti biriyani, galouti kabab on home delivery. Kabab was great, biriyani was good too except the quantity could have been a little more . But parindai e Lashkar , which I was actually excited about turned out to be tandoori chicken in gravy instead of what they claimed it to be - whole roasted chicken stuffed with minced mutton. Dudh roti was soft but tasted nothing extraordinary. All in all a mixed experience .
Hi All,
Didn't visit. Had the food delivered home. I am not a vegetarian guy, but my mom has this strict vegan- Saturday thingy...most Bengalis would understand, in case you don't , ignore this. I ordered Aloo Biryani and Paneer Shahi Korma.
Delivery: I was satisfied with the delivery time. The guy reached 15 mins before the scheduled time. He even obliged me with a pack of smokes which I asked to bring along. Polite, well mannered. So 5/5 on that.
Packaging: The food came in plastic bowls with casing. Now either the food was not hot to start with, or the packaging wasn't enough. I can say, the food wasn't cold. It should have been warmer. That's all. So 3/5 for that.
Quantity: Quantity is enough for 2. That is, if you are not starving for hours.4/5
Quality: The aloo biryani was quiet good. Though not over the top. If you want a special treat you should look someplace else. The paneer was good as well. But there was a hint of garlic and onion in it. So jain or strictly vegetarian people should think before ordering. I would rate 3.5/5.
Price: 90/- INR for the aloo biryani was pretty decent. But 170/- INR for the paneer was a little bit too much. The exact pricing should have been 135-140. So the rating would be 3.5/5 again.
Overall I would rate it 3.8/5.
But yes, I wouldn't shy away from eating here in future.
Ordered through Swiggy from this restaurant situated at James Long junction of Sakher Blazer.
Had ordered for Mixed Hakka Noodles and Awadhi Biriyani .Total billing was for Rs 299/- , and surprisingly they did not charge for packing, though food was delivered in Microwave prove boxes.
The Mixed Noodles was quiet good to taste with lots of shrimps, scrambled egg, and chicken, and the portion size was more than enough for one, considering it was only Rs 109/- for a portion.
Awadhi Biriyani was charged Rs 190/- and had a leg piece of Chicken and Mutton balls that were shallow fried a huge piece of potato and an egg.It tasted a little dry and rice quantity was much less, may be as the large size potato had occupied much space in the container. Overall the Biriyani was nothing special, could have been much better if a raita or a salan would have accompanied the Biriyani.
Been to this restaurant a couple of times, and always found there Indian food to be of very good taste, though most time many of the menu items are not available.Would order again, as the prices are quiet pocket friendly.
I ordered a special mutton biriyani . Biriyani was spicy and aromatic, mutton pieces were big enough and an egg. Did'nt explore much . So will give a proper review after trying other dishes. Thankyou for serving fresh n good . I liked it.
Going to this place since it had a different name. The name changed but not the taste of the food. The ambience is bit different from rest of the places on behala area. Ordered drums of heaven and crispy chili babycorn... both were delicious. This is one of my favourite dining place in behala. It's a request to the management, please get your back door corrected cause the sound it creates really irritates the customer.
My Birthday Dinner!!
Yes That's my First Visit to this place full of awesome food. :)
The place is small with minimal work with less staff.
Anyway ;)
I went with my Mom .This place is very close to my house.
It's located on James Long Crossing Sakherbazar.
We ordered their speciality Murgh Biriyani(zomato recommendation) ,
Butter Nan, Chicken with Babycorn π
Oh!!Wow!!!
The food tasted brilliant :) π π
The Chicken with BabyCorn deserves a very special mention.I will advise everyone to try this :)
Biriyani was really good and very different π π
Nan was soft and Yum π
The pricing is good and they take VAT.
Go visit this little place full of great food.
Thumbs Up π
Intro : Ordered home delivery through Zomato - Food reached in time .
Food :
Murgh Biriyani
Murgh Rezala
Murgh Biriyani - The biriyani tasted fantastic - the rice cooked very well - beautiful typical aroma - the potato was perfect - soft and tasty - the chicken piece was soft and juicy . Yes when compared to Shiraz - they have some catch to do , but Good biriyani -4/5
Murgh Rezala - I really loved it - the preparation was superb - the gravy was fantastic - it tasted awesome - the taste , aroma just superb - chicken was soft, juicy and succulent - they have done a great job with spices and overall dish 4.5/5
Overall - I am impressed - With these two dishes seems that Behala has now got a very good Mughal option - I will definitely try other items to validate this - 4/5
This place is very near to my home but I am yet to visit this place. Ordered through Swiggy so will straight talk about about the foods I ordered
Murgh Dakbanglo - One plate contains 10Pcs. This is good but bit sweet for my taste.
Jafrani Murgh - One plate contains 6Pcs. This is ok and again bit too sweet for my taste. Its my fault that though I like spicy stuffs but as there were no mention of spice in the menu, end up ordering this
Laccha Paratha - This is the highlight i should say. Not those conventional Laccha Paratha but more of big size Nan with shape of round paratha. I liked it very much - something different.
They sale Laccha Paratha plate wise - One plate contains 2 Parathas.
Looking forward to try some spicy dishes along with those unconventional Laccha Parathas :)
Read a lot of good things about this place on Zomato and being a behala chowrasta resident, I didn't wanna leave it unexplored. So there I was with Mum and Dad on Sunday for dinner.
Planned on starting with Badaam Sharbat but none of the sharbats were available. Tad disappointed, we browsed through the starter section and decided on Galouti kebab which wasn't available too. Seriously, dude?! On a Sunday night??!!
Nevertheless, I kept my hopes up and went ahead with Gosht Shorba, Shammi Kebab, Kalsahi Gosht, Masala Kulchas and Daulat Halwa for dessert.
Shorba was okayish. Kebabs were wrapped around an omlette and it did melt in my mouth. Kalsahi Gosht's quantity was okayish and tasted fine. Can't complain about the kulchas too. The dark horse was the halwa π. Honestly, the presentation wasn't appetising at all (maybe they could garnish with chandi ka wark) but man! it tasted soo gooood!! It's made of curd, it was creamy, light, not too sweet and full of dry fruits! A must to finish off your meal :)
Wish to try their biryani next and hopefully would get to try their sharbats provided its available!
This restaurant was previously named as 'Mughal's Chopstix' n now everything ha changed along with the name,n the change is really good!the ambience is just awesome n i loved their interior decoration, especially the floor!(Ah! yes anyone would honestly)
Their service was good n the waiters were decent n well behaved.. We ordered butter naans, murgh special biriyani and kalashi gosht...all the items were nicely cooked n tasted great, and the quantity is ample, the mutton was soft n juicy and had no smell..
It's worth visiting truly, seems like behala is coming up with really great places for foodies! :)
just mind blowing.awsome food great ambience.such a nice restaurant.specialy the chicken tikka saslik and the chicken duckbanglow.every one should taste once this two dishes
Place is really nice. went there some days before. We ordered the tangri, butter nun and murg kalsahi. All are very good. we packed some food for later. Best part is after 6 hours the nun was same. Nothing happened. It was as soft as before. Loved the nun. Test was also very good. Planning for 2nd round.
The best food of this place moti biriyani and mutton kalshai....mutton kalshai tastes best with kulcha....here the price is a bit higher but the quality and quantity and the ambiance worth it....
Ordered food through swiggy from jafran, we ordered moti biriyani, galawti kebab and kalsahi murg and tandoori shan e kebab. The food was really awesome and the biriyani was quite different as it being a awadhi cuisine. The tandoori chicken was very succulent and flavourful. Overall I really liked the food and the quantity. It's a must try.

This happens to be one of the better restaurants in this part of the city... with a small but good place... okay ambience... good food.... reasonable pricing.... overall good place to dinein.
COMPARATIVELY A NEW RESTAURANT IN THE AREA,YESTERDAY I PACKED A MAHI IRANI KEBAB AND TANGDI KEBAB FROM HERE,FIRSTLY THE PRICE WAS REASONABLE AND COMING TO THE FOOD THE MAHI IRANI KEBAB WAS EXCELLANT,WELL COATED ,NICELY MARINATED AND WELL DONE,QUALITY OF FISH WAS ALSO GOOD.TANGDI KEBAB WAS ALSO VERY GOOD.
WISH TO VISIT AGAIN AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO TRY THE KEBABS.
Jafran is a new restaurant which is located in James Long Sarani near Behala Chowrasta. It has been quite a few times I have dined in at this place. The ambience is quite good than many other restaurants in Behala. The decor is nice as well and you will feel good when you enter the place and dine in there. The best dish I have had there is their Biryani. The Biryani is little spicy but its taste good. I love the taste of Biryani here. Today I ordered online for the first time and I found the packing was really good. As I opened the box the Biryani was warm and it tasted good.
So this place is always a good option to have some Biryani.
3.5/5
Jafran- piece of sophistication in behala beside Kamdhenu.I had gone their on 5th May,my bday, with my "him"..as we live just 10 mins walking distance away from jafran so we never gave even a look to this ,guessing it must be an add to the list of gutter restaurants in behala. But it satisfied us to the core.we ordered butter garlic naan, chicken daakbanglo, moti biriyani and lime soda.garlic naan s were so utterly butterly yummy and perfectly made my buds happy with reddish thick gravy of chicken dak banglo...moti biriyani was so tasty that even though i was full but i kept eating bcz of the smell and taste..i wish to go there again for the kebabs.
As from my personel view, this restaurant is the best in this area. Their food tastes awsome. The interior is bit of low class but the food is good. You will enjoy the taste.
Visited dis place during d last puja..though we cudnt get to taste deir famous moti biriyani bt some plateful of various kebab impressed us to d core of our hearts .. Looking frward to visit again
This is by far the best experience I've ever had as a Calcuttan with mughlai food! Arsalan and aminia stands no chance! The staff and food is the best Calcutta can offer you! Have your taste buds tickled! A must visit for every Behala resident! Jafran rocks! π
Be it mughal or awadhi this place serves you heaven on a platter. Food that'll soothe your senses while it melts in your mouth. The aroma is seductive while the food is exclusive!
Mr Ashit Chatterjee, trust me is the best guy you can have as a manager to run the place. The man is supremely gentle and a great connoisseur of good food.
A must visit for every Calcuttan who is crazy about 'real' good food.!!
11/10 for the overall experience!!
Kudos!!
The interior literally remind me of movies which have a Arabian theme.
This place is really good and is literally 5 mins from my aunt's place .Love their food and the behaviour of the staff.
Today I ordered 2 sukha nan, 2 lacha paratha and one chicken dakbunglow thorugh swiggy. I previously visited this place multiple time, but this time experience is very very bad. They firstly informed the lacha paratha was not available and hence they changed to tandoori roti with my consent. But when we received the food, the experience was very bad and the dinner has become a mess. The nan and rotis were like leather cloth , very hard and the dakbunglow was like normal boneless chicken kasa type with one egg and lots of oil and spices. And taste was a very blunt and salt less.
Could be the best place in whole of Behala region. Ordered home delivery
1) Murg Biryani
2) Gosht Biryani
3) Kebab-e-Yaan
The packaging was compact and as per standards. Once we received the order we found it was nice and warm with all flavors and aromas instantly teasing our eating sensation.
The quantity of the biryani both Murg and Gosht was sufficient for 3 members, they have tried well to reproduce the awadhi flavor and have successfully done to so to an extent, but no where near the quality of Oudh 1580 - but then again, considering their price point we were satisfied with the quality!!!
Kebab-e-Yaan was the show stopper. Reminiscent of Kaafila's chicken platter, but here you have to replace the chicken pieces with chicken kebabs. Flavors were accurate, rice and gravy was nice and soft but the excess quantity of oil at the bottom of the container explained all the calories we had just taken in!!!

Behala is blessed to have such an exceptionally brilliant awadhi/mughlai restaurant, right at the junction of James Long sarani and Sakherbajar.
The interior decor represents a very niche and sophisticated presentation of quintessential nawabi charm!! And the green floor lights add up to the mellifluous ambience even more.
Service persons are very polite and courteous, and takes serious care about the satisfaction of the guests. Importantly, they are very curious to learn, to improve their service quality even better, which I liked a lot.
Coming to food, its exclusively mouth watering, and genuinely delicious. And the quality is so good that even after having a sumptuous meal, you'll not feel uncomfortable.
And its a sheer bliss for me that they provide home delivery to my place.
A must visit for all the foodies out there. Highly recommended.
This restaurant serves some of the best mughlai salans in the city.Their kebabs are pure bliss specially the sumptuous galloti kebabs!Dooh-wali roti is a must Β try.Its the yummiest melt-in-the-mouth bread i have ever tasted. I would also recommend kalshahi murg. If not for the location i would have given them 5. Ambiance is quite good too.

I had ordered the food at home, so I can't comment about the decor and ambience of the restaurant, and also, I can give only limited opinions about the food, since there aren't much options available for online orders.
I had ordered the Ghost Biriyani and Murg Dakbanglo with Shuka Naan. It's a little disappointing that they don't have options for desserts.
Coming to the delivery timing and service, they were a little late than mentioned, but that's probably due to the distance, which am willing to excuse. The food was quite hot, except the Naans and naturally I couldn't enjoy the later much since they hardened in no time. The Ghost Biriyani, on the other hand, was spot-on. It was non-sticky, non-oily and just had the right amount of spices. Even the aloo and mutton were well-cooked and we quite savoured the taste. The Murg Dakbanglo is supposedly their speciality. However, the amount of oil that goes into it and the way it shows up may make you feel guilty before consuming it. It's very spicy, but you can't deny the taste that lingers in your mouth. It has got mutton fat mixed with the murg, and is indeed very different to taste.
I would definitely want to visit the restaurant next to see what else they have to offer and update my review accordingly.
Nice resturant situated on james long road... Ambience is superb as so is the food... Really liked their murg biryani... Food Pricing is ok... If you happen to be in behala do visit this place
Had high hopes from this restaurant. Visited this place in a hot summer afternoon to celebrate my birthday (we were already tired travelling approximately two and a half hours). On reaching here, we found none of the air conditioners working. The interior was clumsy and the condition of the washroom is pathetic. It was dark and hot inside. We ordered chicken and mutton kebabs, biryani and mutton keema. The food was up to the mark. The quantity served was enough for 4 of us. However, disappointed with the service. Overall, 2.5/5.
The food is great, having it served quite fast. The decor is okay with its lamps n bamboo decorations. But the air conditioning could improve, it was rather hot.
Its located near James long sakherbajar. Wonderful themed restaurant in behala.jafran has its awesome awadhi ambience.dim lights with wooden chair.low volume music all of them made an awesome atmosphere. They also surved welcome drink which is ok type. Now come to the food.I have ordered jafrans special kabab platter.where 6 pieces of juicy tasty kebabs were surved along with salads, one moton keema side dish which I don't like that much and papad. Surprisingly they also surved veg biriyani rice along with a big biriyani aloo.i loved this platter.my friend had murg biriyani which was light and ok type. At the end with bill they served panmasala in a box.pocket pinch 475 only....waiting for my next visit to have galauti kebab there.for now cheers.....π π π

Good biryani. I went with my cousin and had mutton biryani and raita. Food was good. Ambience was quite attractive. I would recommend this place for some tasty biryani.
Ambience: 4/5
Food: 3.5/5
Service: 3.5/5
Overall: 3.5/5
Ordered awadhi biryani, mutton and hari murg kabab. Taste good, good service - the delivery was on time. Quantity is quite good compared to price.
Hope to visit soon.
Honestly I loved the food. . The ambience is good the service is fast . . Biryani is good but sometimes the taste differs . . The price is very reasonable. . Overall it's a good place and thank god its near my place . .
Average restaurant with good ambience. The biryani they offer is normal in taste nothing special, though i don't know about their awadhi specialities. We ordered some side dish which was good. They offered complimentary drink which is appreciated though wasn't that good in taste.
Awesome place, well decorated, great ambience, well behaved waiters. U will get a welcome drink with papad. Kabaab was fantastic, cant remember the name of that preparation. Other foods were also good. Located at the sakher bazar James long crossing. Everyone should try it. The best restaurant at present in behala.
Great food. We ordered Murg Shorba, Galoti Kabab, Sikandari Rann n Laccha Patatha. Each and every item was good. The restaurant doesn't pinch your pocket much at the same time. Our total bill was Rs1200 for two people.
Staff is courteous, helpful with sound knowledge of the food they are serving.
Ambiance is average, could be a lot better.
I ll sure visit again, and try out the other dishes.
An excellent restaurant with awesome food. The moti biriyani is a bang on...all the side dishes r so very tasty. I only want to know that in ghost biriyani do you give chunks of mutton pieces or a big piece so I may order after 2 days...
The food was awesome and the thing which will attract you the most is their hospitality....The waiters are very polite and the manager too is very sophisticated. The decoration is average. If u r a Behala-Bashi then u should definitely visit this place. The dim light will make your feast more special.
Whether you're seeking a delightful meal or a pleasant dining environment, The Saffron Tree is a standout choice that promises both quality cuisine and a charming setting. However, it's worth noting that the portion sizes seem a bit modest considering the price. While the quality is commendable, a balance in quantity could enhance the overall value for diners.
I had a great time with my friends here at Saffron Tree.
The wait time was decent and not very long.
Each of the dishes tasted delicious and lip smacking. The mughlai dishes were incredibly good and I would visit again.
I will definitely recommend this place to everyone.
Incredible food menu, delicious taste made this restaurant unique. This fine dine restaurant was my visit list and after visiting it is now favorite list. Ambiance was nice and staff were cordial. You can order hard drinks or cocktail in nominal rate with limited stock but food is bit of high price. You will find some fusion must try items. You can ask them for detail.
We had ordered Crab meat ki galawat, Mutton sutli kebab, Kataifi achari prawn, TST special pork biryani, camino driver. All items were unique and tasty. Must visit place.
I visited last durga puja even at that time The food quality was excellent. Yes the waiting time was high but I can understand the pressure of the high order.
I deducted 1 star from service only due to the person who was handling the sitting arrangement. He was rude and unprofessional. That can be improved or switched with some other person. Who can Handel and talk more professionally.
I went there to celebrate my birthday. Had ordered two cocktails, two starters, one chicken side dish, one bread, one lucknowi biriyani. The food was delectable and had unique taste...loved the starters and the side dish. The biriyani was slightly salty but well cooked, flavourful and all the non veg items were very well marinated and cooked. The ambiance was fresh and vibrant more of a family restaurant type. From user perspective, i wasnt quite comfortable witg the use of cutlery. The spoon was a little bit curvier and there wasnt any chisel. I wish the plates were white and full plates...they served in yellow half plates even the main course. Other than that i think its a place one can give a try!!!
We visited on one weekend. And undoubtedly it is one of the best we have come across for a long time. From the taste of the food to the ambience of the place is perfect for us. There are good options for Alcohols also (Whiskey, Wine, Vodka, Beer etc..). I think the nearest Metro Station is either Kalighat or Rabindra Sarobar and it is close to Lake Mall also. We will most definitely visit again very soon. ππ»
We went on a weekend. Did order J.M.B.C,Zatar Spice murg reshmi kabab, Baled alaska murg sandha kabab, Matarban ki murg ,Lucknow and Hyderabadi dum biriyani along with Qorma murg aur bacon ki lasagana. All the dishes were very tasty except Hyderabadi biriyani. I personally felt it blunt though the Lucknow biriyani was yum.
Ambience is nice. Food presentation is also quite interesting. Food quality and taste is at par with any 3-4 star restaurant. Budget friendly despite serving drinks. All in all this restaurant checks many plus points for visiting this place with friends and family if anyone looking to have a merry time. A special mention to their fast and prompt service. Good job team Saffron Tree.
Incredible taste and quality of food.
We ordered lucknow dum biriyani and Porkzilla paratha pizza. Both were extremely delicious.
Loved it.β€
Must Visit.
Ordered 3 items there. Machli aam kabab was the show stopper. Mutton biriyani was not so exciting, tasted good but disappointed with mutton size. Garlic naan and chicken recipe was normal
The ambience was so good, I really loved that. I went there during pujo time so the service was bit slow and we have to wait a bit longer. Otherwise the food was also great but a bit costly.
Wonderful experience and undoubtedly the best dishes of all time. Every dish here is beutiful and ambience is one of the best
It's a very good restaurant,
with classic ambience .. their food quality is just insane .. their paratha pizza pork zilla was ahh awesome...and Lucknow dum biryani was too good also ...
As per information They also have alcohol and hookah.. Must visit there with your lovable ones
Food quality is very good for this food chain. Service is good, but for heavy rush they tumble a bit. Some foods have deteriorated in quality tho. Still, my 3rd visit there, and some dishes r the specific reasons for that. Among them machli aam, khameri roti, nimish dessert(tried first tym, felt good).
One of the best restaurants to serve continental and fusion dishes.. but the mughlai dishes are not upto the mark.. the drinks available were not that extraordinary.. the atmosphere and the ambiance was great.. but too much pricey for the food quantity they served..
Celebrities visit this place often.
Even today they were there.
Brilliant food with great service & electric Ambience.
Pls. don't arrive here undressed & spoil this place...
Food was good. The place is very cozy. The ambience seems satisfactory.
