This Bengali Cuisine restaurant is Located at Deshapriya Park approacing southern avenue.
The ambience resembling old takurbari concept as prevalant during Rabindranath Tagore times.
Ordered:-
📌Plain Rice - Served in a bowl with fine basmati rice. 3 quarter bowl sufficient for 1 person.
📌Chapor Ghonto- cooked with 9 vegetables. The secret of cooking here is that as mentioned by the chef is that 9 different vegetable, namely brinjal, beans, lady's finger, potato, gourd are cooked sepately and then mixed together, then lentils are spread as toppings. One of the favourite dish of rabindranath tagore. Taste just blew my mind. It's better to have it exclusively with rice without Dal else u will not be able to understand the taste.
📌Moong Dal with fish head- Nothing to specify about this dish as it's the bengalis favorite dish. Taste was up to the mark.
📌Kochu pata Bata chingri-
It was cooked with Kochu pata mashed along with mustard oil spread over the dish and small pieces of bagda Chingri. Total 6 big pieces were there. It's very difficult to express in words how excellent the taste was and would go perfect with plain rice only.
📌Mango Chutney & Papad.
One of my favourite bengali restaurants to dine in... Had ordered gondhoraj limbu sherbet, ilish paturi, luchi, mangsho diye dal, mutton kasha, mochar shammi kabab and bhetki fry... All items were really lip smaking and tasty... Definitely recommend to those who crave authentic bangali cuisine..
Excellent place for bengali cuisine. Had bhetki kobiraji, chicken shami kebab in yellow rose petals, echor kalia, morula chorchori and mutton kosha. Each and every dish was awesome but I liked the kebab and morula chorchori the best. Must visit fir bengali cuisine lovers

As we can interpret from the name itself which is one of the famous river from Bolpur 'Kopai', one can expect the touches of Shantiniketan, Kabi Guru Rabindranath Tagore and a glimpse of Bengali cultural heritage as a theme of this place. This authentic bengali family restaurant is located very near to Deshapriyo park. A simple yet elegent decor consisting various posters of famous poems of Kavi Guru provides a very interesting ambience to this place. My partner and myself visited here for our lunch session and we had few items which wasn't enough to fulfill our cravings..
• Steamed rice
• Moong daal Macher matha diye.
• Begun bhaja
• Mocha shammi kebab
• Kochupata bata chingri
• Chicken kosha
• Mixed Chutney
In Dessert we tried channar ballavi & for refreshment I tried my favorite Doi r Gondhoraj lebur sorbat.
overall it was a great experience. looking forward to visit again..

This is the right place to dine, if you are fond of bengali cuisine. They serve amazing dishes. Their ambience is also very good. I have tried their dal, begun bhaja, chapor ghonto, rui posto, Kochu patai bhapa chingri, chicken kosha and chanar bhallavi all the dishes was equally good. But the showstopper was Kochu patai bhapa chingri. I just fell in love with dish. This dish and steaming hot rice. Is a perfect combination be and it will surely melt your heart. If you are in this restaurant please try this item and chanar ballavi was also equally good. ☺️
Few days back we went this place which is located at the oppostie of deshopriyo park. This is the basically family restaurant and they are decorated their walls with the variety of poems which was written by Kabi Guru Rabindra Nath Thakur. The ambience was pretty.
We ordered -
✅ DOI DIYE GONDHORAJ LABUR SORBOT
✅ STEAMED RICE
✅ MOCHA SHAMMI KEBAB
✅ KOCHU PATA VHAPA CHINGRI
✅ CHICKEN KASHA
✅ CHANAR BALLAVI
Here they were provided us Doi diye GONDHORAJ labur sorbot as a welcome drink. It was amazing.
The Mocha kebab was good and little bit of soft from inside.
After all those things coming to the main course and the kochu pata vhapa chingri was delicious and it looks droolworthy.
Steamed rice with chicken kasha was a very common dish for Bengalis but here it tastes was like quite different and chicken was properly boiled, soft and juicy inside.
Off an authentic Bengali meal better than a delicious Bengali dessert. here chanar ballavi serves with the syrup garnished.
Overall it was a good experience from here. The stuff behaviour was courteous.
---------THANK_YOU---------🙏🏻🙏🏻
During my short visit to Kolkata I happened to eat in this restaurant. I found this restaurent in Zomato and seeing the rating and the name, I decided to try the food there. The name was talking about the Kopai river. I knew this river is connected with Rabindranath Thakur and in many of his poems he has named this river e.g. "Kopai Nadir Teere" means beside river Kopai. .Actually it flows from Bolpurpur, Shantiniketan. But on getting in, I came to know that the restaurent menu is largely based on "Thakur Baris Ranna" i.e. dishes of Tagores Kitchen. That was fascinating for me.It has large portrait of Tagore and all the walls have laminated posters of Tagores Poem. The decor is very simple but elegant. While entering it does not look very big but it has two sections, one for regular visitors and inside there is a space for parties where it can cater to 60-70 guests. There buffet could also be arranged. The floor manager Manikbabu had helped me in locating the restaurant on phone and very courteously received us.I had already requested to arrange a crab curry telephonically. There are many veg and non veg interesting dishes on the menu since we were only could taste only few. Started with Gondhoraj lebu shorbot 5/5.In starter we were suggested Gulabi Chicken Kebab- 4/5. Its like galawati kebab prepared with chicken thigh boneless portion. Served with sharp Kasundi sauce. It was good. In mains ordered for Bashonti Pulao,5/5Pathar Bangla, 5/5.A bengali mutton curry, Kochupata bata chingri, 5/5Kakra Jhol4/5. Big portion. it was great with plain steamed rice. But the curry could have been better. In desserts I wanted to have monohara, a sweet of Nolen Gur. But unfortunately they had nothing of Nolen Gud. The season of Nolen Gud is not yet over, many outlets are still serving nolen gud sweets. Instead we were sugested for white Mishti Doi which was just average and Chhana Ballavi, it was just a Gulab Jamun in square shape and the middle portion was stiff. One visit is not enough for this interested outlet. I am going to visit again for tasting more dishes. Recommended for enjoying authentic Bengali Cuisine. Value for money.
I visited this place sometime back and loved this place!! This is a Bengali restaurant serving authentic Bengali food from Rabindranath Tagore's family recipes..I ordered Bhaat, kochu pata bhapa chingri, macher matha die moong daal and chanar ballavi which is a dessert. Such a great place for bengali cuisine situated nearby Rabindra Sarobar and also nearby Deshapriya Park. They have a great ambiance at the restaurant. The dishes are so well cooked that you'll remember it for long time. They serve speciality recipies according to from 'Thakurbari' (Rabindranath Tagore's Family)
This is the only place where 'Daab Chingri' is cooked inside the 'daab', that is why the flavour as well as the taste is so intense. They have a signature kebab dish 'Murgh Gulabi Kebabs', which is prepared with tender chicken flesh of leg piece with yellow rose petals. It is far better the the famous galawati kebabs at various places.
'Kochu pata bhapa Chingri' - this is top class !
In 'Mutton bangla' dish, the mutton was very soft and tender and taste is very good.
P.S. - If you're a Bengali, then you'll fall in love with the blissful ambience here.
I went to this restro to celebrate my fathers bdy. As he is a totally bengali food lover so i prefer to go there and try their food. A place which I have loved too much because of it's most beautiful decorative ambiance i have ever seen before in any restaurant as because of it's Bengali touched all over the restaurant from food to the decor of the restaurant.
The food here too much to drooling and loved all new Bengali Dishes that you may never heard of
it and you find it so awesome when you will have it.
The Main attraction here is the Chapor (Made up of 9 different types of vegetables)and Doi Postor Kata Pona Mach.

Rabindranath Tagor. The ambience is so vibrant and at the same time very nostalgic. Staffs are well behaved.

BONGOBASHI is the Bengali term used for the residents here irrespective of being a Bengali. Well a city where Rabindranath Tagore was born, must have it's own aura and it's own beauty, we the residents of Bengal do feel proud in the name of Tagore and this place at Southern Avenue named as KOPAI is proving our views right.
A Bengali is never a Bengali if he or she has not recited a Tagore Creation for atleast once. Because Kolkata's beauty lies in his words and to remember him for lifetime KOPAI has setup a decor which has Tagore's Writings on their walls, the ambience of Santiniketan and also some Tagore's most liked dishes in their menu.
Here is what we enjoyed there:
1.Doi diye gondhoraj lebur shorbot.
2.Mochar Shammi kabab.
3.Steam Basmati Rice.
4.Basmati pulao.
5.Cholapar ghonto.
6 Cholar daal er mangsho.
7.Mete Do piyaja
8.Fulko Luchi.
9.Bhetki er Paturi
10.Magsher Rossola.
11.Mixed Chatni.
12.Channa vallavi .
13.Roasted Papad.
A place which can accomodate approx 35 people at a go can surely melt your tastebuds with their authentic Bengali dishes and also the background score of Tagore adds to it along with the ambience and their hospitality. Do pay a visit to this place and surely they won't disappoint you.

Coming to the food part the items which we tasted were their signature dish Kochu pata Bata diye chingri and it seems they uses Bagda chingri which are big in size and tastes beautiful I really loved the taste of it and it's a must try for who ever visits there followed by this after getting suggestions from them tried out Rabi Thakur's favourite Chapor Gonto which is a mixture of 9 Vegetables beautifully sauteed and the taste was lovely and since I am a fish lover I decided to take Padba Shorshe Jhal the large one for my self and the preparation was superb, the ingredients used in it were very beautifully mixed thereby the outcome of the curry was excellent. And ofcourse which is the main thing along with it we took rice after all we all know that 'Maach e Bhaath e Bangali' :) . Kopai was the appropriate place for celebration of my Parents Anniversary. Being a biryani and kebab lover I used to avoid Bengali cuisine as my love for north indian food is eternal. But my friends wanted to try some proper Bengali food so insisted me to visit this place . And honstly I loved this place. Not only that probably i will go with my mother someday as she would love this restaurant too.
Kopai, located 5 minute walking distance from the lake mall or Deshapriya park. Ambience was super attractive . Pictures , Quotes and poems by great Rabindranath Tagore was on the walls which made the ambience as well as the name 'kopai' significant.
As we visited this place with my 6 friends we ordered various item . Prices here I found very reasonable. We ordered Doi gondhoraj sarbat, rice , chapar ghanta, macher matha mook dal, pathar bangla.
In my recent times i had tried various drink but probably Gondhoraj sarbat is the best of them. It was so refreshing and great in taste and the aroma of Gandhoraj lemon made it even better.
My second favourite was macher matha mook dal and begun bhaja. I used to avoid daal always but here it was so good in taste with begun bhaja.
And pathar bangla was their ultimate dish. Mutton kosha can't be better than this. It was spicy and i loved it for that. Mutton pieces were soft enough and its damn delicious. If you ever visit this place do try this item must.
Overall i had great experience there. If being a north Indian food lover i m saying this so this place is worth your time and money. Love to recommend this place to all.

If you like bengali food then this place has to be on the wishlist of you.
The place is located at kalighat area, 5min walking distance from deshapriya park. The decor here is pretty soothing and goes perfectly with the food they serve. Some of the writings of rabi thakur framed in wall and the hanging lights will certainly draw your attention.
Now coming to the main part and that is the foods. I tried
🔹Mach er matha diye moong dal - being a bong dal is always your favourite item so tried it. It was really good. Smell of fish was totally bleneded nicely in the daal. Loved it
🔸Chapar ghanta - this is made up of 9 different sabji fried separately and assembled at the last moment during final cooking so that the smell of each 9 sabji remains intact. It was also topped with bori guro. This was really amazing.
🔹Kochu pata bhapa chingri - this is also of their signature dish and they again amazed me. Medium to large size bagda chingri is used here and the aroma of sorser tel gave the overall dish just that awesomeness it needed.
Overall had a great experience here trying bengali cuisine food. Would love to recommend this place to everyone. This is really a must visit place.
Great food and great service. We had enjoyed the Kochupata Chingri and the veg dish Chaper Ghanta thoroughly. The masala Mung Daal was also heavenly. It was out and out great experience @kopai.
Excellent food. Courteous staff. One can walk a thousand miles for the kachu pata chingri. Just heavenly 💙. Plan to visit the place once again!
I ordered parshe begun kalo jeera jhal and katla sorse jhal with rice. Both the dishes were simply delicious. The fish was so fresh and cooked tenderly. Perfect place for dine in.
Such a nice restaurant with cozy ambience and varieties of Bengali cuisine served with utmost delicacy.
it's not the first time I am praising about their awesome food and gesture. Pure authentic Bengali cuisine! We had Chapar Ghonto, Echor Tarkari, Kacha Aam pora sorbot, kacha ammer chatni, Kochu loti diye Chingri, Posto Bora and Ilish Bhapa. Kiddos for maintaining such taste with quality. Keep it up!!!!
Nice ambience, courteous staff, tasty food but quantity of food was not enough and price is too high.
We had veg. Biryani bengali style, karai sutir kachuri, unique kajusweet, swadar misti doi, kacha Aamar chutney. Personal attention was paid by the manager Mr.Manick, to explain about bengali dishes as we are telugu. It is worth tasting the reciepes of Rabindranath tagore family prepared at kopai restaurant.
We are very much satisfied with their foods. And staffs are very courteous. Good Ambience. We will visit again to have their Murg Yellow Kebab.
Best place to get an understanding of Bengali food and flavours. Each dish was standout and delicious! Mr. Manik was super hospitable and helped us navigate the menu - he excitedly kept getting us different dishes to taste. Excellent experience all in all! Highly recommended.
A restaurant with great ambience. Food quality is also good. Quantity is sufficient enough. The staffs aro also good. They have some really unique food like Hilsha Paturi.
Nice place to have food. The ambience is also great.Everyone will surely enjoy the place amd its a place to be visited amd have food.
This is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. We went there for birthday celebration of one of our friend. And guess what? The owner of the restaurant was so nice that he gifted the birthday girl a watch as a token. I've never seen such a sweet gesture before.
The ambience was absolutely perefct for a delicious bengali lunch with the lights, nice artworks displayed on the walls and Rabindra sangeet in the background.
Coming to food, each of the dish we had were amazing.
We ordered -
• Plain Rice
• Masala Moong Daal
• Alubhaja
• Chitol macher muithya
• Chicken Kosha
Such delicious food and friendly behaviour from the staffs made us feel so like home.

Located just beside the HP petrol pump at sarat bose road. Very easy to locate. This place can accommodate atleast 70 people. So, if you're planning visit with your group of friends to try some bengali dishes. This is the place to go.
We've ordered,
Murg Yellow Gulabi Kebab : Though I loved each and every dish, but I would say it was one of the must try dish from their menu. Absolutely delicious. The kebab was minced so finely that it would melt with a blast of flavours as soon as you put it in your mouth. Simply loved it. RECOMMENDED.
Boneless Illish Paturi : Honestly I've never heard the concept of boneless Illish paturi. Being a person from Bengali culture, I grew up with this love for Illish but those heap of fishbones compel me to think otherwise every time. But here, these people just made me fell in love with the fish for umpteenth time. They put so much effort to create such a heavenly dish with a fish like Illish, hats off to them.
So, if you love Illish but don't like the bones, at the same time looking for a mouth watering dish, I strongly recommend you to try this out. I bet you won't be disappointed.
Pathar Bangla : Worth the money. Tbh it was the second time for me having mutton since I wasn't really fond of it. But for record, I loved it. Loved the taste, loved the softness of the meat.
They served it in a small kadai, with 8-10 pieces of mutton and a decent amount of gravy. It would go really well with bread or rice.
Basanti Polau : The aroma of Polau was to die for. The quantity of the dish could serve 2-3 people easily.
Cholar Daaler Mangsho : I've never heard of this dish as well. I had a different notion about cholar daal. But those small mutton pieces dipped in daal surprised me. The dish was simply delicious. So, If you're ordering some puri then try this out.
As I have mentioned before, I loved each and every dish of this place though I would separately ask you to try their murg yellow gulabi kebab and the boneless Illish paturi.
The service was good. The staffs were extremely humble. Definitely gonna visit again.

•Luchi
•Cholar daaler Mangsho
•Dhokar dalna

Lovely authentic cuisine. If you are not looking for fusion, perhaps the best bengali Restaurant in town. Wish they also include "Kochi pathar jhol" in their menu catd sometimes soon. For the cons, although menu prices seem ok but the portions per dish is a bit on the lesser side.
The ambience of the restaurant was excellent. We ordered mixed fried rice, mixed hakka nodules, chilli chicken, and fresh lime soda. All of the items tasted excellent. The only gray area was the waiting time which was more than an hour but it is understandable as it was Saptami night and we had a group of 20 people. Even, the Bengali dishes served to our friends tasted excellent. Overall, it was a very wonderful experience. It is a must visit restaurant if you are looking for quality food along with good portion size.
Food was delicious. Stuff behaviour was good.
Atmosphere was very nice.
Shantanu Da very humble person.
Most recommended.❤️
Today, we dined at this restaurant, and the atmosphere was delightful. Our order included steamed rice, moog Dal, kochu pata bata chingri, Aam pora sorbot, posto bora, and chingri malaikari. The food was fantastic, especially the kochu pata bata chingri - its taste lingers on your palate for a while, it's truly remarkable. This place is a must-visit to experience Bengali cuisine. Their service was also excellent. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
Very much recommended for typical ' বাঙালি খাদ্যরসিক '.
The ambience of the restaurant was very good. All staffs are well behaved. We ordered Aam panna, plain rice, kochu pata bata Chingri mach, and Ilish Bhapa. All of the items tasted excellent. Overall, it was a very wonderful experience. It is a must visit restaurant if you are looking for quality food.
We visited today, had chinese lunch there, quality of the food and quantity was very nice. And the best part was desert, we loved the unique desert they served us.
Food quality & taste was quite good......& overall ambience & serving of the dishes were awesome.
Came here with a normal expectation as for other general restaurants but after coming here and having food and interacting with the owner, I understood the difference. My overall experience is AWESOME, both in terms of service/ behaviour and food quality... Each and every item is authentic and delicious... Each and every veg and non veg item is mouth watering.. I recommend all to come here to experience at least once.
