old cabin style restaurant. We ordered mughlai paratha and egg chicken fried rice. Mughlai paratha was crispy and full of flavours. The quantity of rice was sufficient for 2 people, full of chicken cubes and egg. It had a smoky flavour which made it more yum.

This is an old Kolkata cabin-style, non-ac restaurant. We ordered fish kabiraji and that tasted delicious. They also had chicken kabiraji and prawn kabiraji on the menu. I must say they had a huge list of items on their menu but I recommend to try their mughlai items only. If anybody is willing to try only chinese, they can surely skip this place despite the menu because their is always a thing called "speciality" and one cannot expect every item to taste equally good. However, I felt that the pricing is a bit higher and they charge 5% gst for no good reasons. Also this place is a bit under maintained so I won't recommend this place to any cleanliness freaks.

Purbani is one of the oldest and pocket friendly restaurant in Gariahat area. You need to use long stairs to access the restaurant so it's not wheelchair friendly. The price of each of the dishes are good and they maintain the quality too. It's a good option for a family outing but please note that it's a old restaurant hence you should not expect the modern amenities like cushioned chairs and air conditioning facilities. Overall it's a definately give you a vibe of old Kolkata feel for sure. Do visit!

I went here during puja with my in-laws. They came here as a family when my husband was growing up. It is a must visit for the food, but also for the nostalgia of what dining out in Kolkata used to be like, a real window into the past. The food was excellent - some of the best Bengali food I had while in town that wasn't cooked at home. Half of the restaurant is booths, which is traditional for the area. You can close the curtains on the booth for a more intimate and reserved dining experience. If you want good, cheap food in a unique place, this is the place to go. This is far and away my mother-in-law's favorite food place in all of Kolkata. It is a must-try and a unique regional phenomenon in regards to the booths. It is fast, easy, convenient, unique, and a historic experience. I highly recommend it.

A small dingy place with good food. Situated at Gariahat Market, this place is ideal to gorge on some Fish Fries and Cutlets and Kobirajis and can be regarded as a place better than Das Cabin or Fern Hotel in the same area.

A very old restaurant in and around Gariahat which serves various kinds of dishes starting from snacks like fish fries and cutlets to Pulao, Rice, Biryani and side dishes. This restaurant has an old charm and follows a cabin style. You need to climb up a good number of stairs to find this restaurant, therefore not really ideal for old people having problems to walk or climb. The prices are moderate over here, not every costly but they do maintain a certain quality and quantity.
