This quaint restaurant is located in the popular lakes area - towards the Gariahat side of Southern Avenue near other popular eateries and cafés.
It’s very insta worthy and the food is great too. Went there recently for another pop up - uncle Toms, and it was amazing too.
The place is quaint and friendly, with a nice ambience and some great music playing. And then when you get to the food, it gets even better.
It's old-school Calcutta continental food done to perfection and with generous portion sizes, it's amazing value for money.
The steaks are especially worth trying, most notably the Tournedos Rossini.
Would definitely recommend the place, whether it's for a date or if you want to have a nice meal with family.
In a quaint little corner, practically hidden behind the big signages is this quaint little place. Walls , furnitures and frames hand painted by a friend of the owner Manju Dutta who is a joint owner with Vikram Malhotra of the famous Skyroom in Calcutta now Kolkata.
Southern Avenue is one of the few places left in the city with a green corridor. It's sheer nostalgia especially if you grew up in and around that area and had a cargo of memories to carry till the end. This is city who loves a story and if you add food with it....its a hit.
The Olde House not only gave us that story but also served us some exquisite food. Starting with a Double Fungi which is a cheese and mushrooms starter with a crunch we went onto the classic Prawn Cocktail. Both were really good. Though I personally liked the Double Fungi better. Our mains consisted of mainly classics. Chicken-ala-Kiev, Chateaubriand was served with a choice of two sauces, mushroom and pepper and an Old Fashioned Mixed Grilled which had a killer flavor sauce to die for. The Chicken Tettrazini and the Fish and Chips were equally good as my son decided to clean the plates and claimed to over eat as the food was outstanding. The Chocolate Ganache was the icing on the cake. Perfect flavour and not extremely sweet as we generally get in other outlets.
Well if you live in the city visit anytime but since Durga Puja is just about a month to go....better make reservations prior. The 2nd floor is also on Airbnb and is available for small parties which too needs to be booked before hand.
A place which is bit difficult to find but is a hidden gem.
You get a complimentary dish as soon as you place your order.
The service of the staff is really good.
Coming to the food... The place serves continental food and the dishes are really made with utmost care and it is really delicious.
I ordered
1.Watermelon and deta cheese salad
2.lemon garlic fish
3.chicken Ala keiv
4.pork Chop Apple sauce(Must try)
5.stuffed Grilled Chicken
6.Spaghetti aglio e olio
7.Tiramisu(Must Try)
Enjoy the continental food of the famed Park Street restaurants and colonial clubs of Calcutta but away from the madding crowds, on Southern Avenue. This Olde House full of Olde World charms is tucked away beside What's Up Cafe where you can grab a drink before, walking in next door to enjoy your dinner starting with Prawn Cocktails or Crab Thermidor before choosing Calcutta favourites such as Chicken Tetrazini, Pork Chops or Beef steak! Check out the musical Sunday brunches too.
Small restaurant with pretty good food. Attentive staff. The entrance needs to be spruced up. Service was quite fast. We had prawn cocktail, chicken Ala Kiev and a pepper steak. All good. The absolutely perfect Creme Brulee was courtesy of the friendly proprietor, Ms Dutta. Will visit again, surely.
The get up is good. The food, starting from bread and coleslaw ( on the house) to fish and chips had a great deal of authenticity. However, the past sauce could have blended a bit better. The steak was amazing. Some basic hospitality gaps - no salt pepper on the table and no napkins and tiasues. There are scopes of improvement. I'd still recommend the place for good Continental cuisine
Exceptional taste. Very good quality of ingredients, cooking standards & presentation.
Hats off to the chef.
Waiting staff was attentive, and polite.
Decor is nicely done, but not very well maintained. There were food stains on our table cloth. Cobwebs hanging from every lampshade, (not fresh ones, they'd collected some dirt.)
Cutlery was outright dirty. Had severe food stains all over. That was the biggest turnoff, but staff apologised and promptly changed it, (even gave us a complimentary dessert which was delicious!). Yet, the crevices of the fork (freshly provided) were still black with legacy food residue. I really wish they would invest in a proper dishwasher. Other than this grump, the rest of the experience was quite pleasant. And I'll be sure to visit again. (Just might carry my own cutlery just to be safe 😑)
Amazing food amazing decor totally nostalgic and the owner with her team of staff members were extremely good and served food of the best quality they provided a complimentary dish as soon as we ordered . I'd suggest anyone to go there and try the food out just remember food is for the palette not the belly ... Have a good time there
Felt like I walked into a friend's cosmopolitan drawing room!!! I totally loved the fact that they use a ceiling fan apart from the air conditioning. Try this place for an informal date or to spend time with friends you want to have a conversation with. Try the chicken, leek, celery soup please. I would recommend the almond brulee too but I missed the fact they dont keep some nice hot tea to go with the ambience!!! I tried the chicken breast in red wine sauce and chicken sicilian which was Ok. Starter, main course and dessert should cost you around INR 2000 for two. The interiors are not too spacious but just FYI...we were the only ones dining in so it felt great.
Extremely tasty food, friendly staff, beautiful decor, cozy ambience, highly recommended. We had one of the best food in a long time.
Wonderful place. Great ambience and awesome culinary delicacies. The vintage Kolkata, the Skyroom and Bluefox revisited.
Definitely worth the visit.
Every dish made to sheer perfection
Excellent ambience and a very cozy atmosphere.
Above all wonderful hospitality
Keep it going always.
To start with I liked the food. I had ordered a fish in lemon butter sauce, which tasted well with the herbed rice and sauted veggies on the side. I didn't mind the creme brulee but it could have tasted better; the process of making the caramel was slightly overdone. The hosts were extremely welcoming and I had the nicest interaction with the staff. The ambience is like an old charm, just as the name of the diner suggests. Well thought interior and decor; one of its kind with hand painted walls with furniture, which have rustic look.
I really enjoyed my time here. Must try!
Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in Southern Avenue (kolkata). The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. The food is absolutely amazing (raviolis were delicious and caramel cream exquisite) – Everything we tasted melted in other mouths. A perfect Sunday brunch place with a very warm atmosphere, soft live music. Highly recommend!
Ah! It was indeed a wonderful dining experience. The owner deserves huge congratulations for his effort in offering continental fine dining which we all sorely missed ever since the closure of Sky Room. Generation in their twenties/ early thirties who have only heard about Sky Room must try out Olde House Eatery.
