Courteous staff and mouthmelting taste
*Short Review*
An absolutely must visit place when you are in Lucknow!
We went there on the day we were supposed to leave back to Mumbai, breakfast time & we were offered Kachodi, Aloo Subzi along with khatti meethi chutney. Every Kachodi in Lucknow has its original & different taste & the accomplishments served along make it even more unique. Absolutely loved it.
Next was offcourse the very famous Malai Paan Gilori! Literally melt in mouth, the taste was so awesome, right from paan flavour to the sweetness everything was perfect. ( PS : You are supposed to have one piece in one go! π )
[ Don't forget to parcel them home, you won't get this anywhere else ]
The hospitality offered was extraordinary. The owner himself ( even without asking ) took us to their kitchen to explain all the steps of making a gilori. Impressive!
Only drawback is the location, it's literally in a gully which is a bit shady, unclean too, but the outlet is totally neat & clean.
I had its famous malai pan which was sweat, delicious, filled with essence and flavours that refreshes your mind. I enjoyed it alot. They have very wide variety of sweats and lots more.

Well it was a gift from a close relative... Malai Paan.. they were amazing... they just melt in your mouth.. highly recommended ... will definitely visit one day
You can surely miss this place just because of its remote location, but a sweet shop which is almost older than any one here is worth a thousand visit. Their paan ki gilori is the best sweet invention I have ever had in my life as a chef. Also this chutney which they serve with the samosa is like yummm... If you are in Lucknow do visit this place or their other new outlet in main market.
Their laddoos are one of the best! A variety of sweets and namkeens, they have kept their taste up to the mark. Itβs one of those old city sweet shops that have just been around for very long and for all the good reasons.
Ram Asrey started shop in 1805. It still exists at the same point and serves sweets that are out of this world. Everything is good. The people are courteous, not over-talkative. They will help you. Finding this place may be a bit of an issue, but trust Google map. It will be worth the trouble.
We were on our #LucknowFoodTrip from Delhi/Gurgaon with the FB group members #CrazyBhukkhad. On the last leg of our trip, we had planned to get the sweets packed from this legendary sweet shop. Each of us got a few packed but the most famous and the unique item that we ate was malai paan gilori. It was very soft and none to sweet and made in the shape of paan. Everyone present there quite liked it!
Although there sweets seem a little costlier then others, I'd say these are VFM because of the quality and taste!
Full marks Lucknow :-)
tried malai pan, and almost all chenna preparations one by one...packed the mix veg samosa(I forgot the actual name). one perfect sweet and salty mix visit.
This is a gem that is hidden in the narrows but offers some amazing desserts. I mean it, it is almost impossible to find, the shop is in a galli that is not more than 5 feet wide. But their malai paan is out of this world. Legend has it that it was made for the Emperor who was advised not to eat pan leaves, and this was made as the alternative, and it truly tastes to the story. It is a pan like filling which is wrapped in a sheet of malai, and some bits inside also gave it a crunch. The taste was not too sweet which made it even more amazing. The next thing suggested was something whose name I forgot (has happened once too often in my time. It was something of a fruit salad which was topped with what was a flatted rosagulla, the combination was just brilliant. It had my taste buds wanting for more. The owner was a nice guy who suggested us his other specials but I had to promise him to come back another time. I have two days left in this city, and coming back here is on my list of to-dos.
Take away sweets shop. Quality is good .it's a reputed shop in chowk .prices are not high . Good place for sweet dishes. They take orders of bulk supply also.
The Lucknowi Malai Ki Gilori
Malai Paan fondly known as "Balai Ki Gilori" was invented in the 1800s! The Nawab of Oudh was asked to abstain from paan as tobacco consumption was affecting his health. Replacing the paan, Balai ki gilori was created at RAM ASREY.
Paper thin like malai is stuffed with dryfruits and mishri with a touch of rose water and wrapped in silver coating. Even though malai paan has been replicated at several other places, the authentic melt-in-the-mouth Lucknowi malai paan can only be found in the city of Lucknow
Ram Asrey in Chowk now has a prominent board on the main road. Park and walk into the narrow gully to get to the famous sweet shop. It's location is not the most accessible but it's not very hard to find if you use Google maps.
The most famous sweet they have is the Malai ki Gillauri. It is very unique - like a paan inside folded cream instead of a betel leaf. The other sweets are delicious too. Try a little bit of as many things as you can. Breakfast/snack options include various variations of the samosa, kachori, namkeens, biscuits etc. The samosas are delicious.
Service is quick. Parking can be a hassle and you'll have to walk a bit from wherever you park. If you're in Chowk and are looking for vegetarian food and/or sweets, you should check out Ram Asrey.

The shop is deep inside the chowk area you can use google map to reach here, my visit was here for the Malai Paan, but having a sweet tooth tried many they all were awesome, here i found a variation of samosa called "sandwich samosa" it was also good, the samosa was served with a sweet and savoury chutney which was unique itself having flavour of tamarind, jaggery, sonth. The malai paan we had two because one was not enough to adore it, the outer skin was soft and the inside with candied almonds, pistachios, cashews and coolness i think it was from kevda essence made it a total worth it experience, i will say please visit this place atleast once.
One of the oldest sweet shop of city with innovative and upgradation with time and keeping the tradition on its name , ruling the city sweet tooth without any questions, one of the heritage of Lucknow. Everything is better here.
We had been ordering sweets from Ram Asrey since always. It's one of the best sweet shops in town that serves more than 70 types of delicacies. Kaju katli, chhena mithai, gulab jamun are some of my favorite. And of course, not to forget the delicious Chaat that we've been tasting from the halwai at RA since childhood. It's definitely a must - try.
Ultimate place for Morning breakfast khasta kachori and samosa with jalebi. aldo for sweets. Very Old in town.a must visit place.
Pocket friendly must have makhan malai if u found.
Searching this shop is like solving a mystery. When you are able to find the shop it seems that the mystery is solved. I visited this place only to taste its famous malai ki gilouri and that sweet was too good. After eating that it felt like my energy is not wasted that I used in searching of this famous shop.
The ratings are for the kesariya malai ki gilori alone! I had the malai ki Gilori at Ram Asrey, Hazratganj and was a big fan. Never did I anticipate that there was an even better version of hit hidden in the narrow streets of Chowk. We almost lost our way and it took a long long time to find the shop especially because it was late in the night but boy it was worth it β€οΈ
This would definitely be the best dessert I had during my 2 years stay at Lucknow and would recommend it to all.
A quaint place, safely tucked in a Banaras-like Gully in the Chowk area in Lucknow...Ram Asrey is a rare gem in the treasure trove of this city already dotted with several of sweet Shops. Every product displays a sort of an honesty and genuine taste, which seems to have gotten lost today with more modern establishments cropping up. Guzare zamaane ki jhalak milegi yaha.
Worth mentioning is their Malai Gilori, which I suppose, lacking sufficient knowledge in this regard, Ram Asrey pioneered. I also enjoyed the peda, and all sorts of chhena mithai. Basically all of their stuff is worth a try...take your time, visit this place again and again and again and thank God for Ram Asrey Sweets...
Finding this place in chowk is like a treasure hunt. Difficult but worth. Had to ask a lot to search the lane, when I first visited the place.
Everything available from chandrakala to winter special kali gajar ka halwa is delicious. And their Malai ki Gilori gives you a heavenly experience once enters your mouth. If in Lucknow and you don't visit this place your trip isn't complete.

For me its the best sweet shop in Lucknow which makes my kind of sweets...
Tried more than 50 toes of sweets than my team mates stopped me to do it further...
Went to their oldest shop at chowk, very far from the main road in ancient streets.... Quite similar to the streets/area like old Delhi ...
Got packed 8-12 items for home..
Khasta kachorib with dry aloo subzi is a delite and mewa samosa with dal moth for namkeens...
Malai roll, kaju roll, mewa batisa, fruit extracts and burfies....chhena sweets and many more we tried.
Over all i found the desi ghees soan halwa... Who i used to miss after closing India's oldest sweet shop GHANTE WALA SWEETS AT CHANDNI CHOWK.
The 200-year old sweet shop does have some of the best takeaways. You could also sit and eat your sweets in peace at a corner with 3 seats. That's about the seating arrangement.
This shop isn't very easy to get if you plan to visit as a tourist. It's inside a narrow lane and you will have to ask people to reach the shop. However the rich, heavenly sweets here make up for the little trouble.
Here's what I tried:
1) Malai Gilori:
4.5/5
Thick layer of Malai wrapped in the shape of pan Β with nut filling inside not only gave the sweet an amazing taste but also was very unique. I have tasted nothing like this before. It's unique, a little too sweet but all points for the malai wrap concept.
2) Kiwi Chheni
4/5
This dessert was a mix of malai, kiwi, pomegranate, banana. The white malai part was delicious. However the banana part in the centre didn't make the sweet any great. Leaving the centre portion, the rest of it was delicious.
3) Kaaju Biscuit
4.5/5
I regret taking only one as a sample to taste. The kaaju biscuits are absolutely yummy and a must-have. Tastes a bit like kaaju kalti. These are priced slightly steep at 1000rs./kg.
I tried Other sweet shops but found that Ram Asrey is the best sweet shop in Lucknow. Although the shop was in the interior and we had to walk a lot, when i tasted the sweet the walk was worth every step.
The staff was frendly to show different types of sweet.
I purhased Lal Peda and Balushahi.
It would be great if any one can Suggest their other speciality.
Unbelievable!!
Just 3.6 Rating..
This place deserve 6/5 rating..
The hidden gen of Lucknow..
The time was there when Emperor Wajid Ali Shah was requested by doctors that he could not eat PAAN but he was so fond of that or u may say it was a part of his routine but for some way out, Mr. Ram Asrey himself created malai pan for him and he was astonished of Mr. Asrey's creation and since then even after four generations their Malai Pan is to die for..
The Awadh morning is incomplete with khasta aloo, the galka along with khasta aaloo is something for which I cover the distance of 14kms ππ
This place on the narrow street of banwali gali doesn't need any introduction and no need of navigation, just ask anyone to reach there.. ππ
When you talk about lucknowi sweets you cannot finish your conversation without ram asrey's sweet one of the oldest sweet shop of Lucknow you will get all kind of varities in ram asrey
they doing business since 1805 and for generations they have been serving sweets at reasonable price and with perfection.Β
few products like Malai pan etc. can be found here only, others do sell those but quality and taste you get here is simply awesome.
One of the oldest/awesomest place for sweet lovers. So here I go with the review of some of the items, I tried:
1. Dahi Bada(may be two types of Dahi Bada is available )=10/10, I never had better Dahi-Bada than this Β in my life.Β
2. Malaai Paan=8/10, This is one of the rarest collection you can find, A little more hyped. Tastes good but not excellent.
3. Kaju barfi=8.5/10Β
Β Β Β I asked them for some of their traditional sweets. I cant remember the names but I tried 2-3 more types of mithais and loved all of them.
One of the most awaiting place to visit on my recent trip to Lucknow. Surely went there to buy the delicious malai ki gilori or malai pan for which this place is famous throughout India. This is the main sweet shop serving malai pan along with different sweets. The chowk area was crowded like always n this place is hard to find if you are new here. Went inside and took a fast glimpse of various sweets available here. Also a good options of Bengali sweets can be found here. We order malai pan which was value for money as per it's quantity n preparation. A thick layer of malai filled with different nuts always makes us tempted.

Well, If you want to taste and indulge in Food's History in Lucknow then Ram Asrey Sweets, Ban Wali Gali, Chowk Lucknow is the place to be. 210 Years of History stands in - front of your eyes in the dingy, clingy 4 foot wide road in Chowk. Trust me, the Lane is so wide that only two motorcycles are just barely manage to cross that too in opposite Directions. And yes when you will step into this Historical Place, You will be surrounded by Sweets, Sweets and More Sweets. Generations of Pictures/Photos hanging by the Walls and Ceilings. Portraits of Gods and Goddess placed on the walls. Legend has it Ram Asrey in Old Times, used water from his own Well in Sweets, Namkeens Preparation. Yes, The Well is still there, but I doubt if there will be any water in it. Every Sweet, Namkeen has a bite of history, past glory of food to tell of in Lucknow. Malai Gilori is worth Mentioning. In fact, this was invented by Ram Asrey himself. Kaali Gajar Ka Halwa, Walnut Giri Ka Halwa are worth trying for and dying for. 4.0/5 and I sign off.
It's the main shop in the Chowk. Most known for the sweets. Chaats and other varieties explore it more but sweets, their varieties are really adorable. Must visit place.
Best of best dessert found right here in this place, they have been serving dessert since 1805... It's very much inside in the galli and difficult to find...but once you reach here it's heaven.. Chenna Roll, Maha Rasgula, Malai Gilori, chenna ka dahi wada are the best dessert you get here! They melt the moment I pop them in!! ππππ
Legendary sweets and Indian desserts makers of Lucknow. Ever since opening in 1805, this is one of the places that can legitimately boast of the nawabi heritage of this city.
They are the home of some of the most iconic Lakhnawi desserts like the Malaai Paan, Kaju Sohanwala, Anjeer roll, Lauki Pudding.........(yum yum!!! )
Also known for the best samosas to be had in the town.
Ram asrey is famous for its samosas..its an old shop..sweets are olso good at this place..but the best thing is their samosas..they r delicious..
Located in a narrow lane, a bit to the "inside" from the main road, this two-century-old sweet shop is one jewel of a place.
It essentially delivers on providing just the right amount of sweetness in every item - neither less, nor too much, just the perfect point.
Every sweet that I could lay my eyes on here - be it the malai-kilori, fruit cup, rasmalai, peda, kaju katli are all awesome.
It is certainly a treat to be here.

This place epitomizes the quintessential sweet shop which has been going on for generations. I have a sweet tooth and as far as traditional Indian sweets go, I feel this place is definitely among the top ones. I am from Delhi and I somehow never developed a taste for Malai Gilhori, but people in my family love it. My personal favourite are the pedas- the lal peda and the kesari peda. No place is Delhi has lal peda, and I feel it's a shame that Delhiites miss out on this incredible sweet. The lal peda at Ram Asrey is brilliant, incredibly fresh and soft. The kala jamun also was delicious. The malai chap was so fresh and airy, but for me, everything tastes better with saffron, so the kesari chap was better. The kesari ras malai was also amazingly fresh. It's said that the owners have their own well and they use water from that well to make all these sweets, which gives them their unique flavour. Well, I don't know about that, but I do know that if you have a sweet tooth, this place is a must-visit!!

Favourite sweet shop of my family from atleast 2 generations. Kaju katli and ras malai are to die for. They have improved the eat in area so that you can gouge on freshly prepared mithai with friends in store as well. Their home deliver in standards are yet to catch upnwith their sweet preparations, so take the pain to go and buy for yourself, and nip a 100g kaju katli when your favourite sweets get packed.
Best sweets shop from ages and they continue to delivered same great taste. Love the mitha's and other products they make like namkeens and fast food items. samosa's are delicious and deliver good taste to your tongue.
Aloo tikki and pani batase here are also great in taste. Ambience is great and decent.
Malai gilori, I doubt if any better sweet exists. And this place makes the best Malai Gilori.
Ram Asrey is an old bakery in Chowk serving delicious mithai's since ages.
My personal favorite is Ras malai. It's fresh and the sweetness is just so perfect. It's truly the best one can have in Chowk.
The taste of sweets is quite decent but with changing trends it's soon loosing popularity.
The gulab jamuns are good as well.Having hot Gulab Jamuns on a cool winter night is indeed a divine experience.
All I can say is that this place is decent enough to enjoy various sweets and delight you taste buds. But it might disappoint you in terms of variety.
But otherwise it's a good place.
Malai pan..
Malai gilori
Malai chap
Rasmalai.
Best in town. Unbeatable! More than 100 years old shop, they survived because of quality!
This shop has all the qualities of an authentic Sweets Shop.
