It is one of my favorite place which serves authentic mughlai and awadhi cuisines at the nominal prices. The food is really really very yummy so I recommend you all if you are a non veg lover and wanna eat some mughlai cuisines. Hop in to this place once and I guarantee you will not regret. The ambience of this place is up to the mark as this is mughlai theme based.The service was very good. So overall experience was very nice.
Situated at the Non-Veg hub of Lucknow City, this place is heaven for Non-Veg Lovers who want to try something different. I have heard much about this place so I went with my Cousin to try something of this place. I ordered for Shawarma and Chicken Afghani. It was one of the best Shawarma of the Lucknow city I have ever eaten. It was fully stuffed with chicken, vegetables and mayonnaise. Chicken Afghani was also very good in taste. Chicken was tender and soft and it tastes good with green chutney. Though the place is small and only two tables are there for sitting, yet this place is heaven for Non-Veg Lovers.. Feels like Nirvana achieved..!! 😂
So We are quiet a frequent/regular customer here, we come here all the way from Alambagh, just to have Shawarma Roll made by Chacha, he's so nice n polite, you can actually feel love in the roll. There's no sitting facility(take away), the other outlet is a proper restaurant in gomtinagar. About the roll, that is the perfect shawarma(authentic) as he adds potato fries, mayo, pickle, and a chutney with good amount of chicken chunks, roasted on the shawarma machine.. The Mayo is the star, super yum, a must try.❤️😋

I had best shawarma in Hyderabad. When I came back to Lko, i was looking for shawarma places, have tried al baike shawarma and hungry daniels and what not but i couldnt find the taste. But shawarma from daal mein kala is just the best, the same taste i had in Hyderabad. The best. Delicious. One must try this.
It’s more than 10 years that I have been regular to this place because no other place in Lucknow treats me with such a delicious butter chicken 🐓 which absolutely is my love for life
if u are a shawarma lover then this is the best place u could get that ... they have 2 varities .... one with a hot dog bread and the other in a paratha .. former is called “sumali” and the latter one is the typical “shawarma” .... even the preparation is mouth watering let alone the delicious rolls 👌🏼 no proper seating place though so take away is a better option
As always, the food was ravishing!! I was surprised at the amount of food... Sometimes, restaurants deliver less amounts of food when you order through zomato ... But daal me kaala impeccably delivered adequate amount and quality!

Daal Mein Kala never disappoints me. One of the best places to go for authentic Mughlai food. Try their mutton barra and chicken afghani. It will have you going back for more. A small joint with very little sitting space (max 6-8 pax) near dastarkhan ambience wise there is nothing there and what they lack in ambience they make up for it with there tasty food they have a few unique dishes which are not easily available like mutton saag , raan etc yesterday my order was mutton raan (btw you have to order raan 24 hrs before ) taste of raan was just amazing meat was so soft and grilled to perfection and super tasty full of spices it was worth the wait and next item was Kadhai chicken which was also amazing big juicy pieces of chicken and loads of gravy and full of flavours
All the items are priced moderately not very heavy on pocket I will highly recommend this place .

The Best Shawarma roll I have ever had in Lucknow.... Others use to mash the chicken mercilessly 😂 but here in Daal mein Kala they put a proper small pieces chicken... And the mayonnaise they serve with it is so tasty.. 👍👌

As tourists in Lucknow, my husband and I landed up at Hazratgung in search of the big and famous restaurants. While asking for directions to Tunday, we were recommended this restaurant by a local. Warning-it’s a small place with seating for about 16 people only at a time. We were told we might not like the ambience, but the food would be to die for. And it turned out to be so right! I had the Afgani Chicken and my husband had the biryani rice. The chicken was delicious, well cooked, and very filling. The biryani rice was the most flavourful I’ve had till date. I was in Lucknow for one year from 2012-2013, and living a forced bachelor life. This place used to serve the best Afghani chicken I have eaten across. This was the go to place for chakhna (read: afghani chicken). The only issue was that it used to get over by 8 so had to hurry. This used to be followed by kakori kebabs from Sakhawat. God I miss Lucknow
This happened 3 years ago (or was it 4?). I was on a visit to my hometown, Lucknow. It was one of those inebriated evenings. We had a few beers at Strokes (that is, sadly, closed now) and strolled down to the alleys behind tulsi looking for dinner. The name "daal mein kala" struck a chord and we took a table. I think it was a saturday and the restaurant was empty. We ordered tandoori chicken. It was absolutely delicious. We asked the owner for his recommendations for the main course and he ordered a chicken masala for us. It was the first time I had a chicken curry cooked in coconut oil in Lucknow. I was in a culinary heaven (if there's a place like that), dipping the soft and crunchy tandoori rotis into the glorious gravy and hogging it like a mad man. We chatted up the owner and he was quite the raconteur. Turns out, he is a graduate from IHM Pusa, no less. All in all, it was a memorable time spent with good people and good food.

I had heard praises of this place and especially its Afghani chicken. Finally i was able to make it there to taste its over praised chicken Afghani. And to my surprise, it couldn't impress me to the thought level i had before going to Daal mai kala. It is just another eatery selling palatable Afghani chicken.
It was a roasted chicken that tasted me like every other eatery in Lucknow. There is a great thing about Lucknow, you usually don't find disappointing food.

A gem..rather, a hidden gem. Not many people know about how great this small place is. Mostly because it's undershadowed by the like of Dastarkhwan. Located just a few metres away from Dastarkhwan, this place serves a few good delicacies which are not offered by anyone else in that area.
I had read about its Chicken Saagwala and Mutton Burra being awesome, but believe me when I tell u this- they are not only awesome, but out of this world. Specially the Chicken Saagwala. It is heavenly and a must try for every chicken lover out there. I urge you to try it, you won't regret it. Saagwala is a very unique dish and one of the best chicken dishes with a very flavourful gravy and marinated chicken.
I loved it and cannot wait to try it out once more.

If you are looking for a delicious grill food then daal me kaala is your destination. I ordered chicken afghani and mutton barra; both the dishes were properly marinated and grilled which is an important part of grilled food. The staff is very helpful. The only drawback is the they don't have enough seating space. I am looking forward trying their other dishes on the menu.
I have been eating from this place from years. Though the dine in isn't that preferable, the food is great. Their Afghani Chicken and Biryani is to amazing. A place which ensures good quality food with proper hygiene makes me go back to this place again and again.
Dal Mein Kala is a misnomer more so whatever is being served in this small outlet is transparent maintaining very good quality hygienic Mughlai Non Veg be it BIRYANI with good pieces of chicken and mutton in it, KORMA ,STEW, succulent SHAAMI KABAB'S. The owner himself is a hotel management chap who is keen to answer your queries, and what goes behind preparing and maintaining the mughlai delicacies every day. Korma and stew are a delight prepared meticulously to justify its sumptuous taste.
Biryani is yet another feather in their cap because it takes 8-10 hours in its making that's why its aroma opens up your sense of olfaction reaching your nose ,and taste bud starts to activate even before it reaches your mouth.

I've had the best butter chicken in Lucknow at this place. Apart from that Palak paneer is also quite good.

The Place is known for its Afghani Kebabs, have tried the dish twice before this visit but sinse I am more into fries and not a tandoori dishes fan, so I don't prefer Tandoori Chicken or Afghani much.

Kadhai Mutton was a bit on the sweet side , the people who don't like sweetness in curries might dislike it.
Mutton Biryani was slightly differcent from rest of the good biryani in the town as the rice used in it had slight sweetness which gave an extra edge to the Biryani , if you want to ve a biryani with essence of variety of spices but with light on flavors , its fully apt for you .
*Mutton in the dishea were cooked to the perfection ..... 5* for the Mutton Tenderness.

Again visited Daal me Kala and Tried Mutton Barra this Time as this Joint is Famous for It's Tandoori Stuff.
As in my earlier visit I found Chicken Afghani a bit Dry and low on Flavors , The same I felt for Mutton Barra , Dry and Not very Flavorful.
*Maybe as I'm not a fan of Grilled Stuff thus I didn't find it Good or the Taste of the Dish has really went Down . (Not Rating it Over Grilled Dishes)

A must visit to DMK every time I am in Lucknow for this place has good chicken Afghani. Tikkas can be tried once but the best item of the place are its chicken Afghani
One of my favorite place in ganj for having outstanding,delicious, mouth melting food i manage to visit here whenever m in Lucknow as its guys you can have all mughlai non veg dishes at best price as well as some veg dishes also I will appreciate if they could increase some seating space also..

This is a typical no nonsense affair takeaway. The food served by this place easily makes up for its dismal seating capabilities. The serving and price amount are very generous making it a food joint you can frequently visit despite being low on balance and still be assured of rich quality of food. The entire place is set up at one of the best streets for non-veg food . This place makes really good Chicken saag, I tried it out of curiosity and didn;t have really high hopes from it, but the chicken saag is probably one of the best food in the entire food lane, giving a tough competition to Dastarkhwan's Galawati Kebab. The Balance of spice is absolutely amazing. The chicken texture along with the gravy is commendable. The mild spicy aftermath is something that satiates the foodie in you for quite some time.
The owner is kind of a straight forward guy and you can give him your food requirements and he comes up with really good suggestions.
Special recommendation: chicken Kali Mirch, afghani chicken, chicken saag
If you love butter chicken then this is the place for you. I have'nt had better butter chicken anywhere in lucknow. Even their chicken afghani is quite good. Only problem with the place is their sitting capacity is quite low. Due to which many a times you wont find a place to sit. And somehow I dont like the taste when I get their dood packed and eat at home. It tastes best when served hot. The service is prompt as well.

China Bazaar area near Press Club, Hazratganj has some of the most decorated non veg. eateries of the city. The road passing by the restaurants is so aromatic that it can make anyone, passing by salivate.
One of my favorite place there is Dal Mein Kala. It is more of a take away than a restaurant as it has a seating capacity of only 7-8 people.
The place is famous for it’s Afghani Chicken and Tandoori Raan (available on prior notice). Both of them are absolutely delicious and certainly the best in the city.
Apart from them, Chicken Kali Mirch and Butter Chicken tastes, good too.
The quality and quantity of food is always good. They serve the fresh and juicy Chicken that is enough to fill in 3-4 people.
Good Ambience is something that one cannot expect from a place like this, but I don’t mind enjoying good food in a clumsy space, as long as company is good.
Pricing is moderate and Service is quick. Though sometimes during weekends, it tends to be slow which is absolutely fine and worth the wait.
In all I would rate it 3.5 on 5!
PS: Their tag line is surely one of the best I have seen in a restaurant.

This pace is a takeaway joint actually which serves awesome Afghani Chicken. If you are bored of having the typical Tandoori Chicken, and want to try a different variant of Tandoori preparation, Afghani Chicken will be a good choice for you. And for that, you can definitely add a good experience to your tongue by trying this food joint !!!
Very uncanny take-away joint, with the owner in possession of great sense of humour. Its phone number ends with 420(a representation of fraud as per the Indian penal code) but there's nothing fraudulent about this outlet. Good food, specially their Afghani Chicken, which they claim is made of proprietary spices and marination.
One must try this for once.
The Mecca of authentic mughlai cuisine, definitely a place worth a bite by non-veg lovers and even those who haven't tried authentic Mughlai food at all, here's one place which will make you fall in love with food that speaks of quality and hospitality. Notwithstanding the decor of silver and neon restaurants, here the good taste does the talking.. and trust me, you'll bite your fingers off.
Daal mein Kaala is one of the few places in town where quality counts over everything else. Unfortunately, its also one of the most under-rated places in town. I recommend it strongly to all food lovers esp. those fond of mughlai cuisine. Hats off to Mr. Arif Khan for introducing us to the very popular afghani chicken, the best I've ever had.

Yummy afghani chicken, delicate n delicious galawati (which for now are not really worth it), was once famous for its fried shami kababs (which they have discontinued now)
Mutton biryani is yumm, and there is no comparison for its out of this world saag chicken, (succulent, tender and full of flavours chicken in palak gravy) .....
The menu it is very quirkily designed and as their tag line goes "if you won't eat we both will starve" ...
As for the service part I call up to place the order to the owner Mr Arif and pick it up at my convenience.

Daal me kaala is one of the economical restaurants providing non veg food near Hazratganj. I would rate this restaurant 9/10. Apart from non veg starters, there Samoli ( something like shwaarma) is one of my favourite thing. The salad and dip they provide with Samoli is very unique and tasty as well. Also their chicken kalimirch is very tasty.
