It is quite difficult to find a good south indian cuisine outlet here in ludhiana but i can say that we found the cheaper alternative to Sagar ratna.
This outlet is in model town.
Ambience is pretty basic with seating for 20-25 people and many prefer to eat in their car.
Parking is not the issue and road is pretty wide and traffic is usually less here.
Now the food, we ordered the rava onion masala dosa which was priced at Rs. 120 and size was good. See the picture.
Taste was really good. Dosa was very crispy and full of masala. Their coconut chutney and sambhar are also delicious.
Brought this rava masala dosa at home. Completely filled with filling and the sambhar was also tasty. Tastes much better when eaten at the outlet.
Never disappoints.. good for just dosas and utappams. I wish if they served freshly made idlis and vada.. favourite one is Rava masala dosa.. is a must have at this place
A place that serves authentic South Indian food. Service is good. Coming to the food I ordered their masala dosa, onion masala dosa and Sambar Vada. All were fairly good and did justice to the price they were marked on.

I don't know why Ludhiana budget restaurants don't take hygiene seriously as they should.
The food is good here. It's a south Indian food restaurant but the taste is not as it should be. Idli is fine, sambhar is ok but rest of the things are not upto the mark. Gentry here too is only middle class families.
Taste of food 7/10
Location 7/10
Service 4/10
Gentry 3/10
Value for money 8/10 because it's cheap.
Serves authentic south indian food. The taste cannot be found anywhere in ludhiana. Proper south indian cuisine served with finger licking nariyal chutney tried their masala dosa which was very crisp and properly stuffed tasted very good. And the vegetabe uttapam light and healthy a must try.
The place serves good authentic South Indian food (which is difficult to find in Ludhiana) and is light on the pocket also! Must try- rawa onion dosa and mix vegetables uttapam😋 . They also score good on service
Although the ambience of this place is not that great. but the food they offer doesn't compromise on anything. But this outlet  brings the south Indian flavours in dilli. A true delicacy to try. No wonder, a sardarji eating dosa here instead of tandoori chicken and loving it.The ambience and interiors needs a change . overall a good place to eat south Indian.
full of flavours and tempting for the eyes.
Best dosas ever!!
Rawa onion masala is my personal favourite
Crispy fresh n yummy.. You can enjoy car service
Street lovers must visit. Cheap And best!
I have known the owner for some 14 years now . Started some awesome South Indian in Civil Lines and gradually moved to Model Town , taste is same and chutneys are really amazing. Crisp ,fresh and filling , you will have an amazing time eating some great food . Keep Rocking. Cheers. Happy food
Rajan started as a small food cart around 2004-05 on the main Model Town road opposite Lyallpur Sweets. Food cart culture was turning north in Ludhiana with the emergence of hawkers at college road and model Town road. Chinese food had already been twisted by the hawkers to suit the Ludhianavi taste buds, but Rajan's was one of the first attempts to take the South Indian fast food like dosa, idli, vada and utthapam to the streets for the people.
Sagar Ratna has always been the leader of South Indian food in Ludhiana that has been enjoying a tremendous fan following ever since it started, though not being perfectly authentic.
Rajan hasn't delivered the authentic South Indian taste, but has been successful in twisting and punjabi-fying the dosa. His dosas and uthhapams are fresh and taste great and so it the sambhar at a very competitive cost.
His success story from a mere food cart to a shop in the posh area of Ludhiana speaks for itself.
So starting with my review -
Access and Parking - Quite easy to locate in the Model Town area. Parking is easy too.
Service & seating - service is dammn quick even on the weekends... The "mundus" move swiftly taking orders, delivering food and getting more sambhar and sauces. No waiting. Seating is usually on plastic chairs on the footpath or in the indoors in form of a small shop. Things are clean and hygienic
Food - It is not authentic, but is fresh and tasty. Dosas and Utthapams are crisp, chutneys - red & white are good, sambhar - 100%/suited for the Ludhianavi pallette. The tastes are good. Quantity is not compromised and neither is quality. Menu is limited to dosa, vada, idli and uthhapam but all the things are good.
Verdict - A great value for money place... Strongly recommended.
Authentic South Indian in Ludhiana means that food which is cooked by south indians themselves and trust me there arent much choices frpm which you can choose from.
You have the high end 'Sankalp' to roadside rehdi wala's which offer you proper south indian food.
In Model town, located near the childrens traffic park is the rajan south indian place. It is run by a south indian man, so i expected tge food to be good and tempting.
First and foremost, this place is hardly has a place to sit, a few tables in the open and a few tables in a small adjoining shop, and thats all. Hygiene can a issue for some but being a road side shop you should not have your bar raised much.
I mostly order it in the car, and the service is quick and nice. The dosa's are crisp, tasty, and mouth watering, Sambhar is really nice and the coconut chutney is one of my favourite's.
You can also choose from idli and wada, they both are nice and fresh too. Its a good place for people who are fond of south indian food.
Taste: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Ambience:2/10
Value for Money:8/10
Awesome dosas and other south indian delicacies just present here. Every thing is so delicious. Just awesome. Best in model town but only problem is lack of space. Rest all is awesome
In a Punjabi Hinterland like Ludhiana, finding authentic-easy on pocket, South Indian Food is like finding a white elephant. But once you drop at Rajans South Indian Dosa, you will pat ur back for finding this white elephant. He doesnt have a long list of preparations to disappoint u, but simple south indian delicacies of Idli, vada and dosa to savour u. People findin it difficult to spot.... Look for Timmy in Model town.
This place opens up in the evening . I would call it a have your food in your car place .. Plenty of car space in weekdays but its hard to find space in weekends .. The food is good. Rava masala and onion uttapam are great ..
Rajan south indian wala is located in model town near traffic training park . This is very crowded everyday and there is difficulty finding a seat
But i think their all items are very tasty specially uthpam ,masala dosa and vadas . Sambhar is very tasty and he gives two sauces which are too good also the prices are very less as compared to others
Situated in Model town is simply the best for south indian food. only problem is seating for family .but there is facility for parking & incar service. i like masala dosa , uttapam & idli . good rates make this place good for visit
Rajan dosa is a very good option for south Indian food.Certainly beats the taste of some restaurants too & not to forget the pricing of their menu, definitely one of the best priced menu. All the menu options Masala dosa,Uttapam,Vada,Idli are mouthwatering & nothing disappoints really, from rehri to a shop they have progressed significantly & not to forget these guys didnt forget to make changes to the taste for good as compared to competition. The quality & taste of sambhar has certainly got better over the years.Seating arrangement is not that systematic here since presence of other outlets in the adjoining shops has given way to common seating & it can be troublesome to find seats but you also have the option of In car service & packing.Located near children traffic training park makes it easy to reach from anywhere.
From a small street vendor selling to mere 5-10 people to now operating from a small shop in Model town and catering to over 50 people at one go well describes Rajan Dosa's success, this man has deciphered the secret to adapt the taste of popular south Indian delicasies according to the taste of Ludhianvis.
Getting a place to sit is pure luck and fortune, though the variety is less and not as authentic, but you will be swayed by the lip smacking dosas and sambhar. Must try for a south Indian loving Punjabi!!
Rajan South Indian Dosa (RSIA) started as a humble street vendor many years ago. The owners/owner used to setup his vend on the road opposite to Lyallpur sweets. I became their customer back then. They had everything from Idli, Dosa to Rawa Masala Dosa. The price was optimum and affordable.
As one says be an expert and success will follow you. This happened with Rajan and today their shop is is always crowded.
The service is quick and good. The staff is quite humble and always greets you with a smile. The 'sambhar' is lip smacking. And the main dishes are quite amazing.
The only worry is to find a spot to to be served since the popularity draws a line of customers
and if you visit it around 8 then it will take some time to be attended on.
Overall a satisfying and relishing experience.
